Union Min Giriraj Singh Demands Bharat Ratna For Nitish Kumar, Naveen Pattnaik

Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday said that Bharat Ratna should be conferred upon Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik.

“Nitish Kumar has worked for the development of the state. Naveen Patnaik has also served Odisha for years. Such people should be honoured with awards like Bharat Ratna,” Giriraj Singh told reporters.

He further said that the NDA government will be formed under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.

“NDA government will be formed again in Bihar. Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister for so many years. Today’s children who have turned thirty have not seen Lalu ji’s jungle raj,” he added.

On Tuesday, Union Minister and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly election under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“In the 2025 Bihar Assembly election, the NDA will contest under the leadership of Nitish Kumar,” Ranjan Singh said.

The ruling NDA did well in the Lok Sabha polls in Bihar. Apart from BJP, NDA in Bihar includes JD-U, LJP (Ram Vilas) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular).

Nitish Kumar toppled the Mahagathbandhan government a few months before the 2024 Lok Sabha election and again formed a government with the BJP.

BJP is senior partner in the NDA in the state. While BJP has 84 MLAs, JD(U) has 48 in the State Assembly.

Notably, the Assembly elections for 243 assembly seats in Bihar are likely to be held at the end of 2025.

BJP to Send Notices to Gadkari, Scindia and Other MPs Absent During Key Bill Introduction

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will soon issue notices to its Lok Sabha members who were absent during the introduction of the ‘One Nation, One Election‘ bills on Tuesday. Notably, prominent leaders like Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Giriraj Singh were among those missing.

Earlier, the BJP had issued a three-line whip, directing all MPs to attend the session. Consequently, the party is now questioning the absent members. According to sources quoted by ANI, it remains unclear if the MPs had informed the party of their absence in advance or missed the session due to other commitments.

Bills Introduced in Lok Sabha

On Tuesday, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced two significant bills:

The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024
The Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024

These bills aim to implement simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. However, opposition members protested the move and demanded a division of votes. During the voting process, 269 MPs supported the introduction, while 196 opposed it.

Bills Referred to Joint Parliamentary Committee

Following the voting, the bills were referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for further deliberations. Explaining the decision, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recommended sending the bills to the JPC for detailed discussions.

BJP MPs Missing During the Vote

Interestingly, around 20 BJP MPs, including senior leaders and ministers, were absent during the crucial session. These included Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Giriraj Singh, and CR Patil. In addition, other members like Shantanu Thakur, Jagdambika Pal, BY Raghavendra, Vijay Baghel, Udayraje Bhonsale, and Chintamani Maharaj also missed the division of votes.

Although their absence did not affect the introduction of the bills, it gave the opposition an opportunity to criticize the BJP. For instance, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor claimed that while the government had enough votes for the introduction, it lacked the numbers required to pass the bills. He urged the government to reconsider its persistence on the matter.

Challenges Ahead

Moving forward, the government faces significant challenges. While only a simple majority was required to introduce the bills, a two-thirds majority will be necessary to pass the constitutional amendments. Therefore, the BJP must address internal coordination issues and build consensus to ensure the bills’ success. Meanwhile, the opposition’s firm stance and ongoing debates are likely to add further complexity.

On Sunday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a sharp critique of the Congress, National Conference (NC), and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of exploiting the people of Jammu and Kashmir for decades. Addressing reporters, Singh claimed that these parties, led by prominent figures such as Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, have manipulated the region’s inhabitants for their own political gain.

Singh remarked, “The Prime Minister said that he will conduct the elections. So, he is doing that. The announcement of the elections has been made democratically… The nepotistic parties and leaders like Congress, Farooq Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti have exploited the people of J-K.”

He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to establishing a democratic framework in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh highlighted that under Modi’s leadership, elections were previously conducted at the panchayat level, and now the Vidhan Sabha elections are imminent. “PM Narendra Modi established democracy by conducting elections of panchayats, and now Vidhan Sabha elections are going to be held,” Singh noted.

The Election Commission of India has scheduled the polling in Jammu and Kashmir to occur in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes slated for October 8. This process represents a significant step toward reinstating electoral democracy in the region.

Giriraj Singh ‘200% Confident’ of Bihar Clean Sweep in Lok Sabha Polls

Ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh, has expressed his confidence in securing all 40 seats in Bihar.

Addressing the media, the Minister stated, “I am 200% confident that we will win 40 seats in Bihar 200%. This tukde tukde, appeasement and Mughal mindset gang can never do the welfare of Bihar and the country. All 40/40 seats of the state will be in the name of PM Modi.”

Giriraj Singh has accused the RJD-Congress alliance of engaging in appeasement politics, claiming that the Congress objected to the Modi government’s actions against terrorism.

Giriraj Singh stated, “If there is an action on terrorist…the Congress party, the opposition parties attack the Modi government”. He further expressed, “In this Navratri, those who show that I am eating fish…they are the people of Mughal culture, people who do appeasement politics, call themselves secular. I say that the nation has always been secular…”

The Union Minister criticized former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stating, “Indira Gandhi in the name of appeasement… tried to destroy Sanatan’s secularism… Tried to defame sanatan.”

Bihar is set to conduct polling for its 40 Lok Sabha seats over seven phases. The first phase will see voting in four constituencies. From the second to the fifth phase, five constituencies will go to polls in each. The sixth and seventh phases will cover eight constituencies each.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal-United (JD(U)), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), emerged victorious, winning 39 out of 40 seats. The BJP secured 17 seats with a vote share of 24.1%, the JD(U) won 16 seats with a 22.3% vote share, and the LJP claimed six seats with an 8% vote share. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, consisting of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Indian National Congress (INC), and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), managed to win only one seat.

Giriraj Singh Labels Tejashwi Yadav ‘Seasonal Sanatani’ for Fish Consumption during Navratri

BJP leader Giriraj Singh criticized Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav following the latter’s social media post of a video showing him consuming fish. The video, which surfaced on social media on the first day of Navratri and depicted Tejashwi Yadav eating fish, prompted Union Minister Giriraj Singh to accuse him of engaging in “politics of appeasement.”

“Tejashwi Yadav is a ‘Seasonal Sanatani’, many people, be it Rohingyas or Bangladeshi infiltrators came here when his father (Lalu Yadav) was in power. They do politics of appeasement wearing the mask of Sanatan,” Singh stated on Wednesday.
In a video uploaded on X on Tuesday, Tejashwi Yadav is shown consuming fish alongside Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) leader Mukesh Sahni in a helicopter, mentioning that he only has 10-15 minutes to eat amidst campaigning.

In the video, Tejashwi mentioned that because of the heat, he has buttermilk, Bel juice, sattu, and watermelon juice on hand. The caption accompanying his video read, “Food in helicopter amidst the hustle and bustle of election! Date- 08/04/2024.”

Labeling RJD as a “private limited company”, Giriraj Singh stated, “It is their company and to whom they want to give the shares become shareholders. In Bihar, be it infiltrators or Rohingyas, a large number of them have their names on the voter list. I demand a mechanism that denies them the voting rights.”

However, Tejashwi Yadav mocked the BJP, stating that the video post was intended as a test for the ruling party, which they ‘failed’. He pointed out that the video in question was dated April 8, a day before Navratri began.

Haldwani violence: ‘No one has right to take law into ow hands’ says Giriraj Singh

In light of the violence in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, Union Minister Giriraj Singh underscored that no one, regardless of the circumstances, has the right to take the law into their own hands. Expressing confidence in the Uttarakhand government’s capacity to effectively manage such incidents, he stated in an interview with ANI, “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. Be it religious circumstances or any other reason, the Uttarakhand government is able, and if anyone takes the law into their hands, they will handle it perfectly.”

Following the violence resulting from an anti-encroachment drive in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami convened a high-level meeting to assess the situation. CM Dhami directed officials to take stringent action against the rioters and troublemakers, leading to an increase in security measures in the area.

Nainital District Magistrate Vandana Singh, acknowledging the unfortunate nature of the incident, assured that the individuals responsible would be identified and faced with severe consequences. Singh clarified that the incident was not communal and urged against portraying it as a sensitive issue, stating, “This was an effort to challenge the state machinery, the state government, and the law and order situation.”

Dispelling assertions of a madrasa being demolished, the District Magistrate clarified that it was an empty property. She elucidated, “It was an empty property that has two structures, which are not registered as religious structures or have been given any such recognition. Some call the structure a madrasa.”

Providing insights into the sequence of events, the Magistrate noted that the demolition drive commenced peacefully but evolved into a premeditated attack on the Municipal Corporation’s team. She underscored efforts made to terrorize the area and highlighted the use of tear gas and water cannons to safeguard the police station. She reported that, based on official information, two individuals lost their lives, and over 100 police personnel sustained injuries during the violence.

In response to the unrest, the state government declared a high alert for the entire state, leading to the suspension of internet services and the closure of all schools and colleges.

Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool MP, attacked Union Minister Giriraj Singh’s “misogyny” and the BJP on Thursday in response to Singh’s “Thumka” comments directed at Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal and leader of her party.

BJP leader gives hate speech in Bihar, calls Muslim populated area “Bangladesh”

Union minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday asserted that Bihar was experiencing a rapid increase in religious dialogues and emphasised the necessity for a strict anti-conversion law. The BJP leader claimed that the Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government was “just concerned about its Muslim vote bank.”

“I wonder who will think of Hindus in Bihar where the ruling Mahagathbandhan is concerned only with its own Muslim vote bank and turning a blind eye to proselytisations which are taking place at a great speed,” Singh told reporters.

“The situation in Seemanchal region (bordering Nepal and West Bengal) has become so serious that a visit to those districts makes one wonder if one has entered Bangladesh,” he alleged.

In addition, the minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department asserted that Christian missionaries were converting people to Christianity in other areas, including his home district of Begusarai. Singh emphasised that the only way to stop the “flood of conversion” brought on by coercion or temptation is through legislation.

Mass shooting in Begusarai; 1 killed, 10 injured

A 25-year-old man died and 10 others were injured after two unidentified bike-borne men open fired at 10 locations in Bihar’s Begusarai district on Tuesday evening. The police said that the accused are yet to be arrested.

The police informed that the first firing was reported from an area under the Teghra police station. A senior police officer said the assailants were heading towards Begusarai from the adjoining Samastipur district on the National Highway-28.

The officer added, requesting anonymity, “The other nine firings were reported from Bachhwara, Phulwaria, Barauni and Chakia police station areas in the next 40 minutes.”

All the 10 firings took place within a radius of 30 kilometers, and the investigation is going on to identify the accused. The officer said, “We are looking into the CCTV footage from one of the firing spots.” In the footage, the man driving the bike can be seen with a helmet while the person sitting on the back has his face covered with a cloth.

Satyaveer Singh, deputy inspector general of police, Begusarai said, “We have intensified raids to find the accused. Their identity is yet to be ascertained,” said Singh. “A high alert has been sounded in Begusarai and Patna districts.”

The deceased is identified as Chandan, who is 25 years old and is a resident of Pipra village in Begusarai. He succumbed to his bullet injuries in a local hospital. Others who were injured have been taken to different hospitals for treatment and four are stated to be critical.

Soon after the incident, the BJP hit out at the grand alliance government in Bihar. Union minister Giriraj Singh, the BJP MP from Begusarai, said, “There is no government in Bihar, and no fear of law among criminals.”

The Spokesperson of the RJD, Chitranjan Gagan, said, “This incident has been committed to tarnish the image of Bihar.”

Nitish Kumar, KCR, video goes viral, BJP leader mocks

KCR motioned for Nitish Kumar, who was indicating that the press session was over with a smile on his face, to sit down.

“Why are you asking this question?” Nitish Kumar said as KCR was asked whether Rahul Gandhi would be the PM’s face of the joint opposition. As KCR started replying to this question, Nitish Kumar again got up and urged KCR to not indulge in this question.

“We will strive to bring all opposition parties together. We will sit and discuss. Whatever is decided in consensus, you will be informed in detail because no wedding takes place without the brahmin. Nothing can happen without you (media),” KCR said.

“Let’s go…these are all bogus,” Nitish Kumar told KCR, to which KCR asked him to sit down. “Aap iske chakkar mein mat pade (don’t fall into their traps),” Nitish Kumar said to KCR.

NOTHING TO WORRY ON BIRD FLU CASES, SAYS GIRIRAJ SINGH

Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Giriraj Singh spoke exclusively to The Daily Guardian on the rising cases on bird flu and how his ministry is tackling it. Excerpts:

Q: What can you tell us about the rising cases of bird flu?

A: This virus is being found around the world in many birds and poultry. This was first detected in India back in 2006 and since then, this ministry has worked with states and issued advisories about the disease.

Q: Which states are right now in the red category when it comes to bird flu?

A: We have issued advisories to all the states. We have found that ducks are being found to carry this disease in Kerala, so naturally we are keeping a close watch on that. We get regular reports from every state and we test the samples in Bhopal. After the result of the test, we work according to our strategy. We have an open website to manage this, we have set up a control room and are in constant touch with the state governments. There is no need to worry.

Q: What do people need to be careful about? Since when has your ministry started working on this?

A: People who eat meat do not need to be worried because the virus is killed when the meat is cooked. We had sent advisories and alerts to all states from October itself. We are acting according to each and every report we are getting. Our control room is on top of the situation. Again, there is no need to worry.
