</excerpt>

At least 66 children have lost their lives due to malnutrition in Gaza since Israel’s war and blockade started more than 20 months ago, as per local health officials. According to doctors, babies are wasting away due to the shortage of formula and specialized medical food, while desperate parents search for rubble for any milk substitute none of which is good for infants.

In Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Dr Ahmad al‑Fara rushes between incubators, attempting to keep premature infants alive with running out of supplies. “These kids are under slow death,” he said to NBC News. Gaza’s field hospitals’ director, Dr Marwan al‑Hams, validated that medical centers have depleted type 1 and type 2 infant formula and the nutrient mixes needed for incubators. “Malnutrition in pregnant and lactating women is aggravating things,” he said.

UNICEF reports the crisis is speeding up. In January to May, over 16,700 children between six months and five years old received treatment for acute malnutrition an average of 112 per day. In May alone, 5,119 were admitted, a 150 percent increase from February, when assistance was still arriving during a temporary cease‑fire. “Each one of these cases is avoidable,” UNICEF regional director Edouard Beigbeder said. “Food, water, and therapeutic nutrition are being denied.”

Israel resumed full military activities in March, breaking the truce and imposing an 11‑week blanket blockade that stopped food, fuel, and aid shipments. While some UN agencies have since been permitted to import small amounts of supplies, the humanitarian crisis remains deteriorating. Gaza’s health ministry reports that Israeli soldiers have shot and killed over 500 Palestinians trying to gather food, including at locations operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a distribution system supported by the US and Israel.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres referred to GHF operations as “inherently unsafe” and charged that Israel had produced “a humanitarian crisis of horrific proportions.” Doctors Without Borders called the existing aid system “a slaughterhouse masquerading as humanitarian relief.

Dr Aziz Rahman, a US intensive‑care volunteer who has worked at Nasser Hospital, encapsulated the situation: “There are 600,000 malnourished under‑five children in Gaza. The answer is easy let aid in. This crisis is man‑made.”

UK plans to ban the group under anti-terror laws.
</excerpt>

Palestine Action now faces serious trouble after police arrested four people for damaging military aircraft at a UK airbase. On June 20, two members of the group broke into the Royal Air Force’s Brize Norton base in Oxfordshire. They sprayed red paint on two refuelling and transport planes and struck them with crowbars. Subsequently, the police arrested three individuals aged between 29 and 36 on suspicion of terrorism. They also arrested a 41-year-old woman for assisting the offenders.

Meanwhile, Palestine Action claimed the protest aimed to stop weapons from reaching Israel during the war in Gaza. However, the UK government viewed it as a serious threat. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the act “disgraceful,” and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper promised stronger action against the group.

Government Ban

Palestine Action said their protest was peaceful and aimed at stopping what they call a “genocide in Palestine.” The group said the arrests were political and meant to silence them. Still, the UK government plans to ban the group under anti-terror laws.

Home Secretary Cooper said Palestine Action had become more aggressive and that members were willing to use violence. She announced that the group would be banned starting next Friday. After the ban, anyone who supports the group could face up to 14 years in prison.

Palestine Action Under National Scrutiny

Since the war in Gaza began, the Palestine Action has targeted UK companies connected to Israeli arms maker Elbit Systems. The group has protested at offices, factories, and now military sites. Officials say their protests have become more extreme and dangerous.

The airbase incident pushed the government to act. Now, Palestine Action is now at the centre of a national security debate. The upcoming ban is one of the strictest moves that has been made against a protest group in the UK in recent years.

The military insists no such directives were issued.
</excerpt>

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed allegations that military commanders instructed troops to fire on Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid in Gaza, calling the claims “malicious falsehoods.”

The allegations are based on a report by Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which quoted anonymous soldiers as saying they were ordered to shoot at crowds around areas where aid was being distributed, even in the absence of an immediate threat. The report further stated that Israel’s military legal authority, the military advocate general, had ordered an investigation of possible “war crimes” regarding such incidents.

In a statement with Defence Minister Israel Katz, Netanyahu commented that Israel “categorically rejects the contemptible blood libels” contained in the article. The Israeli military also responded, saying it “did not order the forces to shoot specifically at civilians deliberately,” and restated that its orders “forbid deliberate attacks against civilians.”

The row comes as international concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza mounts, where over 20 months of continuous Israeli-Hamas conflict have leveled much infrastructure and left over two million residents facing famine conditions.

More than 500 individuals have been killed in the vicinity of the centers since late May, when the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation initiated the disbursement of aid, according to the Hamas-held health ministry. The foundation does not acknowledge that any deaths have taken place at their distribution points themselves.

Rights activists and witnesses have before described chaotic conditions outside aid centers, where frantic civilians would converge in crowds, increasing the possibility of stampedes or attacks.

In spite of global pressure and demands for answers, Netanyahu stressed that Israeli troops “get clear orders to keep innocents from harm and act accordingly.”

The Israeli defense forces would not comment on the charges in question when asked by AFP.

The incident stokes controversy regarding military behavior and humanitarian access in the blockaded enclave.

</excerpt>

United Kingdom, France, and Canada have conveyed profound concern at the deepening Israeli military attack in Gaza, threatening that tangible measures, such as targeted sanctions, could be taken if Israel fails to stop its campaign and lift limits on humanitarian assistance.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his outrage in a parliamentary session on Tuesday, calling for an urgent ceasefire in the wake of Israel’s heightened assault that has left a minimum of 87 individuals dead over the last 24 hours. Starmer, joined by French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, publicly criticized the actions of Israel as “wholly disproportionate” and the crisis in Gaza as “intolerable.”

The three leaders condemned in a joint statement the extension of military action inside Gaza and illegal settlements on the occupied West Bank. They warned Israel against the forced transfer of Palestinians, describing the actions as illegal under international law. The statement showed Israel’s limited aid deliveries of a few trucks after months of closure and deemed the gesture inadequate.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed those nations for rewarding Hamas, the Palestinian militant movement with Israeli hostages, with “a huge prize.” In the meantime, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK called for a complete embargo of arms to Israel and emphasized responsibility through international tribunals.

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese stressed that the sanctions must involve the whole Israeli government, not just particular leaders. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot labeled Israel’s easing of the blockade as “totally insufficient,” using Gaza as a “death trap” because of its continuing violence and restrictions on aid.

Amid increasing global pressure, 23 nations made a joint appeal to Israel to open the gates to unhindered humanitarian assistance to avert massive starvation, condemning the politicization of relief operations under the command of Israeli armed forces.

The future of the conflict is uncertain as Netanyahu’s insistence on the continuation of the offensive conflicts with increasing global demands for restraint and justice.

UK Halts New Trade Talks With Israel, Imposes Sanctions Over Gaza War Conduct

<excerpt>The British government halted new free trade negotiations with Israel and imposed sanctions on illegal settlements, citing Israel’s military conduct in Gaza and escalating settler violence in the West Bank.
</excerpt>

United Kingdom said it would put on hold new free trade talks with Israel in reaction to Israel’s continued military actions in Gaza and heightened settler attacks in the occupied West Bank. The move follows growing international criticism of Israel’s actions in the region, where hundreds of Palestinians have died in recent days under intense shelling and renewed ground assault.

On Tuesday, the UK also placed new sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements. The action came after a joint statement by the UK, France, and Canada condemning Israel’s actions in both Gaza and the West Bank.

British PM Keir Starmer stepped up the vitriol against Israel, describing conditions for children in Gaza as “utterly intolerable” and repeated his demand for an immediate ceasefire. His Labour government has been increasingly under domestic pressure for not going far enough to help the Palestinians, with weekly “Stop the War” protests continuing to draw thousands of protesters throughout the UK.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that unless the current UK-Israel trade deal is withdrawn, there will be no renewed negotiations with a government imposing what he termed “egregious policies” on Gaza and the West Bank.
Lammy also imposed further sanctions on three individuals, two unauthorized settlements, and two organizations accused of backing violence against Palestinians.

“The government of Israel has a responsibility to prevent these violent acts,” Lammy stated, threatening that punishment by Israel jeopardizes the future of Palestinian society and the possibility of a two-state solution.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry quickly denounced the UK’s action, stating: “Trade negotiations have already reached a deadlock and stall, and the sanctions are unjustified and regrettable.

The UK’s new steps signal a dramatic change of tone, joining an increasing number of countries putting pressure on Israel to restrain its settler and military activity.

The violence has drawn political attention.
</excerpt>

Protests supporting Gaza erupted across Bangladesh in cities like Dhaka, Sylhet, Bogra, and Chittagong. People gathered to condemn Israel’s military actions and express solidarity with Palestinians. However, the situation quickly turned violent as protesters began targeting global brands they believed had links to Israel.

Protesters Accused Global Brands of Supporting Israel

Many demonstrators accused international companies such as Bata, KFC, and Pizza Hut of either supporting Israel or being associated with Israeli interests. This belief led to attacks on several brand outlets. In Bogra, hundreds marched with placards and shouted anti-Israel slogans. Protesters threw bricks at a Bata showroom, smashing its glass walls. The employees locked the doors from inside, which prevented more damage. Bogra Sadar police officer SM Moinuddin said that although protesters caused some destruction, no serious incident occurred.

Violence Escalated in Sylhet and Chittagong

In Sylhet, demonstrators stormed into a KFC outlet and destroyed soft drink bottles that they believed were linked to Israeli companies. Police arrived and shut the restaurant down. Protesters demanded that the Bangladeshi government and the United Nations boycott Israeli products and take firm action against what they described as brutal killings in Gaza. In Chittagong, the violence grew more intense. Protesters hurled bricks, stones, and shoes at KFC and Pizza Hut outlets, shattering their glass fronts. Local police officer Mohammad Solaiman stated that they were investigating the incident and had restored calm by the evening.

In Cox’s Bazar, demonstrators threw stones at the logos and signboards of KFC and Pizza Hut. Police officer Elias Khan said there was no damage inside the restaurants, only attacks on the exterior signs. However, some eyewitnesses claimed that nearby businesses were also affected during the protest.

Bata Denied Any Ties to Israel

Following the attacks, Bata released a public statement denying any connection to Israel. The company clarified that it had no political affiliations in the Israel-Palestine conflict. It said that Bata was a privately held, family-owned company founded in the Czech Republic and had no links to Israel.

The violence led to political tensions in the country. The interim government, led by Dr Muhammad Yunus, condemned the unrest. Meanwhile, the Awami League, headed by the ousted Sheikh Hasina, criticized the government’s handling of the protests. The party warned that the situation had become a national emergency and claimed that Bangladesh risked becoming the next Afghanistan if the global community remained silent. The Awami League also called for Dr Yunus to resign and urged international intervention.

Dr Yunus, who had earlier voiced support for Palestine, condemned the violent incidents and assured strict action. He said the police had acted swiftly and treated the attacks as a threat to public safety and law. Authorities arrested 49 people and filed two legal cases. Investigations were ongoing, and police were reviewing video footage to identify more suspects. Security forces also conducted raids on Monday night to track down others involved in the violence.

Hamas accused Netanyahu of sacrificing hostages, while Israel defended its actions as necessary for security objectives.
</excerpt>

At least 330 people were killed in Gaza on Tuesday as Israel launched extensive airstrikes targeting Hamas. The attack, the most intense since the ceasefire began on January 19, comes amid stalled truce negotiations. According to Gaza’s civil defense agency, the strikes killed mostly women, children, and elderly individuals, while around 150 others were injured. Explosions were reported in multiple areas, including northern Gaza, Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, and Rafah.

Among those killed was Mahmud Abu Watfa, a senior Hamas official who led the group’s police and internal security services in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strikes in a post on X, stating they were targeting Hamas sites in line with political directives. The military emphasized that these attacks were part of efforts to achieve their war objectives, including securing the release of hostages still held by Hamas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the strikes were a response to Hamas’s refusal to release hostages and their rejection of multiple negotiation proposals. Israel also announced the closure of all schools near Gaza due to security concerns.

In accordance with the political echelon, the IDF and ISA are currently conducting extensive strikes on terror targets belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip. pic.twitter.com/mYZ1WBPVPG

Hamas responded by accusing Netanyahu of sacrificing Israeli hostages for political survival. A Hamas official described the renewed attacks as a deliberate decision to impose a “death sentence” on captives. The group also blamed Netanyahu for violating the ceasefire agreement and putting prisoners in Gaza at risk.

Truce negotiations collapsed over disagreements about the next phase of the ceasefire. Israel wanted to extend the first phase of the deal until mid-April, demanding the complete demilitarization of Gaza and the removal of Hamas. However, Hamas insisted that hostages would only be released under the terms of the second phase, which was supposed to start on March 2.

Last week, Hamas had proposed releasing American-Israeli soldier Edan Alexander along with the remains of four hostages if Israel committed to starting phase two talks immediately.
The ongoing conflict has taken a devastating toll on both sides. Since Hamas launched a cross-border attack into southern Israel on October 7, 2023—killing approximately 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages—Israel has carried out sustained retaliatory airstrikes. According to reports, more than 48,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 112,000 injured.

</excerpt>

The Israeli military has acknowledged a “complete failure” in preventing the deadly October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas-led militants. The admission came as part of an internal investigation, revealing major security lapses.

IDF Accepts Responsibility

According to an Israeli military official, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) failed in their mission to protect civilians. “October 7 was a complete failure, the IDF failed in fulfilling its mission to protect Israeli civilians,” the official stated, as reported by AFP.

He further emphasized the gravity of the situation, adding, “Too many civilians died that day, asking themselves, where was the IDF?”

Casualties and Aftermath

The Hamas attack on Israel killed hundreds of civilians and triggered a large-scale war in Gaza. According to reports, the ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 48,000 Palestinians.

Security Lapses and Investigation

The internal probe has shed light on how the IDF was unprepared for the assault. The military is now facing intense scrutiny over its intelligence failures and response to the attack.

With the acknowledgment of these failures, further investigations and policy changes are expected to address the security shortcomings that led to one of the deadliest attacks in Israel’s history.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has set a deadline for Hamas, stating that if the group does not release hostages by noon on Saturday, the ceasefire in Gaza will end, and military operations will resume until Hamas is defeated.

The announcement came after Netanyahu’s discussions with key ministries, including defense, foreign affairs, and national security. The ultimatum has been fully backed by Israel’s leadership, signalling the government’s firm stance on hostage negotiations.

Hamas Accuses Israel of Violating Truce

Following Netanyahu’s statement, Hamas reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire but accused Israel of undermining the agreement. The militant group stated that it had halted further hostage releases due to alleged breaches by Israel, including deadly attacks and delays in humanitarian aid deliveries.

So far, Hamas has released 16 of the 33 hostages agreed upon in the ceasefire’s first phase. Five Thai hostages were also freed in an unscheduled release. In exchange, Israel has released hundreds of Palestinian detainees, including those serving life sentences.

US President Trump’s Stance on the Ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump, a staunch ally of Israel, has called for Hamas to release all hostages by the deadline. A Hamas official dismissed Trump’s warning, insisting that the ceasefire must be honoured by both sides to ensure the safe return of hostages.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has instructed the military to prepare for potential combat, with additional troops and reservists being deployed to southern Israel.

Israeli Ministers Demand Tougher Measures

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has urged the government to escalate military actions if Hamas does not comply. He has suggested cutting off Gaza’s essential resources, including water, electricity, and aid, and pushing for the full occupation of the region.

The Gaza Crisis: Humanitarian Disaster and Diplomatic Fallout

Gaza has been severely affected by the ongoing conflict, with over 48,000 Palestinian casualties reported by the health ministry. Nearly the entire population of 2.3 million people has been displaced, while basic necessities like food, water, and medical aid remain scarce.

Trump’s recent proposal for Gaza—suggesting that the U.S. take control of the enclave and relocate its population—has sparked international outrage. Netanyahu has praised the plan, but Arab leaders and Palestinian representatives have condemned it, calling it a violation of international law and a repeat of historical forced displacements.

As tensions rise, all eyes are on Saturday’s deadline to see whether the ceasefire will hold or if the region will witness another round of violence.

She endured severe trauma, including the loss of two fingers, during the attack on her home in southern Israel.
</excerpt>

Emily Damari, a 28-year-old British-Israeli dual national, has been released after 471 days in captivity, marking a long-awaited reunion with her family. Damari, who had been held hostage by Hamas militants in Gaza since October 2023, was one of the three women released under a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel.

A Mother’s Relief and Grief for Others Still Held

Her mother, Mandy Damari, who tirelessly campaigned for her daughter’s release, expressed her relief, stating, “After 471 days, Emily Damari is finally home.” She also took a moment to highlight the continued suffering of other families still waiting for their loved ones to return, emphasising that while Emily’s nightmare is over, many others remain in captivity. Mandy expressed gratitude towards all who supported the effort to bring Emily home.

The Long Ordeal and Trauma of Captivity

Damari’s release came after being kidnapped during a horrific attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,200 Israelis. Emily Damari was at her home in Kfar Aza when Hamas militants stormed the area, injuring her and killing her dog, Choocha. Mandy Damari lobbied relentlessly, reaching out to both Israeli and British leaders to secure her daughter’s freedom.

Emily is finally back where she belongs—safe in her mother’s arms, still smiling and stronger than ever. ? pic.twitter.com/ulGlAbJ17n

Emily’s Resilience and Charisma

Emily, known for her sense of humour and spirit, was described by her mother as having a mix of British wit and Israeli “chutzpah.” Mandy has long admired her daughter’s strength, recounting that despite the horrific circumstances, Emily maintained her courage and laughter. She recalled how other freed hostages had praised Emily for helping to keep morale high even in the darkest times.

Football Fans Show Support

Emily Damari was a fan of Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, and her name was chanted by Spurs fans during matches. They also raised awareness for her case by distributing flyers with her image and releasing yellow balloons. This strong show of support from the football community highlighted the widespread effort to bring Emily back home safely.

As Emily begins her road to recovery, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his relief, calling her release “wonderful and long-overdue.” He wished her and the other released women the best as they begin their healing process after months of trauma.

Emily Damari’s harrowing journey ended with her return, but her mother continues to hope for the safe return of others still held hostage.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that Israel reserves the right to resume military operations in Gaza with US support, emphasizing his commitment to securing the release of all hostages held by Hamas. Speaking ahead of a ceasefire set to take effect on Sunday, Netanyahu stated, “We reserve the right to resume the war if necessary, with American support,” highlighting Israel’s transformation of the regional landscape since the conflict began.

Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would not go ahead with the ceasefire deal unless Hamas publishes a list of hostages to be released in the first phase. “We won’t move on with the deal until we receive the list of hostages, as agreed. Israel will not permit any violations of the agreement. The responsibility alone rests with Hamas,” he announced.

Hamas was to hand over the list to the mediator, Qatar, by 4 pm local time on Saturday but up to Saturday evening, there had been no sign of that list. Earlier in the day, Israel’s Cabinet approved a ceasefire deal after months of indirect negotiations brokered by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt. This marks the second truce in the prolonged conflict.

According to Netanyahu’s office, the agreement is in consonance with Israel’s war goals, while Hamas condemned Israel for not winning and committing war crimes. As part of the agreement, Israel’s justice ministry has announced the release of 737 Palestinian prisoners and detainees during the initial phase, set to begin after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has warned Palestinians against passing through the Netzarim corridor, the central Gaza route, until further notice. It warned against approaching Israeli forces who will redeploy along Gaza’s border areas. A detailed statement on the safe return of displaced Palestinians will be issued later, according to military spokesperson Avichay Adraee.

</excerpt>

Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians during its military campaign in Gaza, a charge Israel vehemently denies. In a report released on Thursday, the London-based human rights organization stated that its months-long investigation into incidents and statements from Israeli officials met the legal criteria for genocide, marking the first time Amnesty has made such an accusation during an active conflict.

Genocide Allegation Based on Legal Threshold

The 1948 Genocide Convention defines genocide as acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group. Amnesty’s report claims that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet this legal standard, based on documented killings, serious harm, and the creation of living conditions designed to destroy Palestinians as a group. The report cites over 100 statements from Israeli officials in support of this conclusion.

Israel Denies Genocide Accusation

Israel has strongly rejected the accusation, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oren Marmorstein labeling the report as “fabricated” and based on “lies.” Marmorstein emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis and took over 250 hostages. He pointed to the attack as a “genocidal massacre” committed by Hamas, not Israel.

Amnesty’s Thorough Investigation

Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard presented the findings in The Hague, stating that the organization’s conclusion was not politically motivated but based on thorough research. She emphasized, “There is no doubt, not one doubt in our mind” that genocide is being committed. Amnesty contends that Israel’s military operations since the October Hamas attack have caused the deaths of more than 44,500 Palestinians and have led to widespread displacement across Gaza.

Call for ICC Investigation

Amnesty also urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate alleged genocide, following the court’s earlier issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense chief for war crimes in the Gaza conflict.

As the war continues, both the accusations and the ongoing investigation into alleged war crimes further escalate tensions, with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza intensifying daily.

Lebanon has filed a UN complaint against Israel.
</excerpt>

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly admitted for the first time that he approved a deadly operation targeting Hezbollah in September. The attack, which involved booby-trapped pagers and walkie-talkies, killed nearly 40 people and injured around 3,000.

Netanyahu’s spokesperson, Omer Dostri, confirmed the statement, marking a significant shift in Israel’s previously ambiguous stance on the incident.

Lebanon Files Complaint with UN

The admission follows Lebanon’s formal complaint to the United Nations. Lebanese Labour Minister Moustafa Bayram traveled to Geneva to present the case at the International Labor Organization.

“This sets a dangerous precedent,” Bayram said, emphasizing that turning everyday objects into weapons poses a severe threat to international humanitarian law.

Booby-Trapped Devices

The Lebanese investigation revealed that the pagers had been tampered with before being delivered to Hezbollah. Reports suggest that Hungary-based BAC Consulting manufactured the devices for Taiwanese company Gold Apollo, allegedly under Israeli direction.

Rising Tensions in the Region

The attacks occurred amidst escalating hostilities. Since October 7, 2023, Hezbollah has launched strikes against Israel in solidarity with Hamas. In response, Israel has intensified its air campaign in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah strongholds and deploying ground troops in southern Lebanon.

Global Implications

Analysts warn that the use of booby-trapped devices could inspire similar tactics worldwide, raising concerns about the future of warfare. The international community now awaits further developments as the UN considers Lebanon’s complaint.

</excerpt>

In a tragic development, stray dogs in Gaza have been found scavenging the bodies of Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes, according to a report by CNN on Wednesday. Fares Afana, the head of emergency services in northern Gaza, shared that his team had recovered bodies that had been partially eaten by animals, complicating efforts to identify the deceased.

“Stray dogs who are hungry are eating these bodies in the street… It makes it difficult for us to identify the bodies,” Afana said. He further explained that the intense air and ground assaults in northern Gaza and Jabalia have left the streets in devastation, with no safe space for civilians or signs of life.

Intensified Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated on October 7 last year when Hamas launched an attack on Israeli towns, killing over 1,200 people, mostly civilians. In retaliation, Israel initiated a widespread military campaign, which has since resulted in the deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are civilians, according to the Gaza health ministry. The number of injured has reached nearly 100,000.

Afana revealed that the worsening humanitarian situation is becoming unbearable for residents. On Monday, Israeli forces allegedly fired on residents seeking food at a UN aid warehouse. “What is happening in northern Gaza is a real genocide,” he stated.

UNRWA Warns of Famine Threat in Gaza

Philippe Lazzarini, chief of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), has warned of a looming famine in Gaza as Israeli strikes continue to intensify. Speaking at a press conference, Lazzarini said there is a “real risk” that Gaza’s population could face famine or severe malnutrition, particularly as winter approaches and food supplies remain scarce.

He called for urgent action to allow convoys of food and essential supplies into the besieged territory, stating that a hunger crisis could still be averted if humanitarian aid is permitted entry. Lazzarini emphasized that Gaza has now become “a wasteland” and is nearing the point of becoming “unliveable.”

Israeli intelligence agency Mossad executed a sophisticated operation by placing explosives inside 5,000 pagers purchased by Hezbollah. This covert plan, months in the making, resulted in the detonation of these devices across Lebanon, leading to nine deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries, including those of Hezbollah members and Iran’s envoy to Beirut.

How It Happened

According to Lebanese security sources, the pagers were made by Taiwan-based Gold Apollo. However, Gold Apollo’s founder, Hsu Ching-Kuang, clarified that the pagers used in the incident were manufactured by a European company licensed to use the Gold Apollo brand.

The pagers, identified as model AP924, were modified by Mossad to include explosive devices. These explosives were activated remotely via coded messages, causing mass detonations. The security source noted that up to three grams of explosives were hidden in each pager, which Hezbollah failed to detect.

Hezbollah’s Response and Implications

Following the attack, Hezbollah vowed retaliation against Israel. The incident is being described as one of the group’s most significant security breaches, marking a substantial counterintelligence failure.

In response to the attack and other setbacks, Hezbollah had earlier recommended that its members destroy their phones to avoid Israeli surveillance. However, the group’s decision to use pagers instead led to the devastating explosions.

Broader Context

The pager explosions occurred amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, exacerbated by recent conflicts in Gaza. The situation remains tense, with fears of a broader regional conflict involving the U.S. and Iran.

Experts view the incident as evidence of Israel’s deep intelligence penetration into Hezbollah, showcasing a remarkable level of operational capability.

The suspension includes military planes and drones. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant expressed disappointment, while the UK government emphasized this was not a complete arms embargo.
</excerpt>

Partial Suspension on Arms Exports Announced

United Kingdom has decided to suspend the supply of certain weapons to Israel, marking a shift in its policy amid the ongoing war in Gaza. Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced that the newly elected Labour government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, found a “clear risk” of the weapons being used for serious violations of international law. As a result, 30 of the 350 export licenses for weapons and equipment intended for use in Gaza will be suspended, including military planes, helicopters, drones, and ground-targeting equipment.

No Complete Arms Embargo, Says Lammy

Lammy emphasized that this decision does not amount to a full arms embargo nor a judgment on whether Israel has violated international law. Instead, it is a precautionary measure based on concerns about potential misuse of British-supplied weapons in the conflict. The UK government clarified that the suspension is not a declaration of guilt or innocence regarding Israel’s actions.

Israeli Defense Minister Expresses Disappointment

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant expressed disappointment over the UK’s decision, calling the suspension “disheartening” in a post on social media platform X. Gallant emphasized the long-standing alliance between Israel and the UK and expressed concern about the impact of the partial suspension on Israel’s defense capabilities.

Growing Pressure on UK and Allies

The UK’s decision comes as pressure mounts on Israel’s allies to halt weapons exports amid the nearly year-long conflict, which began on October 7. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the violence. Although British arms sales to Israel are relatively small compared to those from major suppliers like the US and Germany, totaling £42 million ($53 million) in 2022, the UK’s move could set a precedent if other countries follow suit.

Internal Pressure on Labour Government

Keir Starmer’s Labour government, elected in July, has faced internal pressure to adopt a more critical stance towards Israel. While this partial suspension is a significant development, it remains to be seen whether other nations will follow the UK’s lead, potentially increasing the impact of this move on Israel’s defense industry.

A three-day humanitarian pause will facilitate the effort, targeting over 640,000 children. Despite challenges, the campaign aims to halt a disease resurgence in a region previously polio-free for 25 years.
</excerpt>

The World Health Organization (WHO) has initiated a crucial vaccination campaign in Gaza, delivering 1.2 million doses of the polio vaccine to combat a resurgence of the disease that had been absent from the region for 25 years. The campaign, which aims to address the recent outbreak, will see an additional 400,000 doses delivered as part of an emergency response.

Humanitarian Pause to Facilitate Vaccination

The vaccination effort is set to begin this weekend and will be supported by a three-day humanitarian pause in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. This temporary ceasefire will enable the vaccination of over 640,000 children in Gaza, a region heavily impacted by the ongoing violence.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, confirmed that the vaccination drive will commence on Sunday. The campaign will involve daily humanitarian pauses from 6 am to 3 pm local time. UN officials in Gaza outlined that the campaign will be executed in phases over three days, targeting different areas of the coastal enclave.

Calls for Respecting Humanitarian Ceasefire

UN officials emphasized the need for both the Israeli military and Hamas militants to honor the humanitarian pauses to ensure the safe delivery of the vaccines. Despite acknowledging the logistical challenges, WHO officials believe the operation can succeed if all conditions are met.

The campaign will engage over 2,000 health and community workers across several hundred locations. Louise Wateridge, a UN official, highlighted that two oral doses of the polio vaccine will be administered initially, followed by a repeat dose four weeks later.

Concerns Over Safety of Aid Workers

UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell has urged all parties involved in the conflict to prevent any disruptions to the vaccination effort. Russell stressed the urgency of the campaign, noting that any failure to respect the humanitarian pauses would severely impact the health and safety of Gaza’s children.

The call for stability comes after a recent incident where an Israeli missile struck a convoy carrying medical supplies and fuel, resulting in the deaths of five Palestinians.

The WHO and UNICEF stress the importance of this vaccination campaign to prevent a further spread of polio, underscoring that Gaza has been polio-free for a quarter-century until now.

</excerpt>

Qatar has strongly condemned the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the chief of Hamas’ Political Bureau, who was fatally attacked in Tehran, Iran’s capital. Qatar stressed that this act and the reckless targeting of civilians could plunge the region into chaos and undermine the prospects for peace.

Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s president when the attack occurred. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the killing as a “heinous crime” and a breach of international and humanitarian law.

In an official statement, the Ministry said, “The State of Qatar strongly condemns the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in Tehran. This is a heinous crime, a dangerous escalation, and a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law.”

The statement also emphasized that such acts of violence and the reckless targeting of civilians threaten regional stability and peace efforts. The Ministry reiterated Qatar’s firm stance against violence, terrorism, and criminal acts, including political assassinations, regardless of the motives or reasons. It expressed condolences to Haniyeh’s family, his companion, and the State of Palestine and its people.

Other nations have also condemned the killing. Pakistan issued a statement expressing condolences to Haniyeh’s family and the people of Palestine, emphasizing its stance against terrorism in all forms, including extrajudicial and extraterritorial killings.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the assassination, describing it as a “heinous attack” and offering condolences to the Palestinian people. It criticized the Israeli government for allegedly lacking a commitment to peace and claimed that the attack aimed to escalate conflict in Gaza to a regional level. Turkey reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s “just cause.”

</excerpt>

While India has openly shown support for Palestine, it has also been accused of supplying arms to Israel, potentially facilitating assaults on Gaza. Recent reports seen by Al Jazeera, along with company statements, suggest that Israel is receiving weapons from India. Since October 7, the Israeli military has reportedly killed over 38,000 Palestinians, including those in Gaza and the West Bank.

Cargo carrying Indian weapons faces protests in Spain

In the early hours of May 15, the cargo vessel Borkum paused off the coast of Spain, near Cartagena. Protesters at the port, waving Palestinian flags, demanded an inspection of the ship, suspecting it carried weapons destined for Israel. Leftist members of the European Parliament appealed to Spanish President Pedro Sánchez, urging him to prevent the ship from docking. They argued that allowing a ship loaded with arms for Israel would be complicit in the transit of weapons to a country under investigation for alleged genocide against Palestinians.

Before the Spanish government could respond, the Borkum abandoned its planned stop and continued to the Slovenian port of Koper. Inigo Errejon, the spokesperson for the hard-left Sumar party, claimed the Borkum’s diversion confirmed suspicions about its cargo.

However, the debate over the ship’s docking overlooked the origins of its cargo. Documents seen by Al Jazeera revealed that the Borkum was transporting explosives loaded in India and was headed to Israel’s port of Ashdod, located about 30 km from the Gaza Strip. Marine tracking data showed the ship left Chennai, India, on April 2 and circumvented Africa to avoid the Red Sea, where Yemen’s Houthis have been targeting vessels in retaliation for Israel’s actions.

What was the ship carrying?

According to unofficial documentation obtained by the Solidarity Network Against the Palestinian Occupation (RESCOP), the Borkum was carrying 20 tonnes of rocket engines, 12.5 tonnes of rockets with explosive charges, 1,500 kg of explosive substances, and 740 kg of charges and propellants for cannons. A confidentiality clause mandated that all associated personnel refrain from mentioning IMI Systems or Israel. IMI Systems, a defence firm, was acquired by Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer, in 2018.

Despite these findings, the ship’s commercial manager, the German company MLB Manfred Lauterjung Befrachtung, denied in a statement to Al Jazeera that the vessel was carrying any weapons or cargo destined for Israel.

In past, there have been other incidences where ships transporting ammunition to Israel from India have been restricted. On May 21, another cargo ship from India was denied entry to the port of Cartagena. The Marianne Danica, which departed from Chennai, was reportedly en route to Israel’s port of Haifa with 27 tonnes of explosives. Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Albares confirmed in a news conference that the ship was barred from docking due to its military cargo bound for Israel.

</excerpt>

Amid escalating tensions in the Israel-Gaza conflict, Israeli forces have launched limited ground assaults and carried out an aerial bombardment in Rafah, where over one million Palestinians, including half a million children, are taking refuge. Despite warnings from the Biden administration against a full-scale ground offensive, Israel appears poised to proceed, marking a potential turning point in the ongoing conflict.

Escalating Crisis in Rafah

The recent military actions in Rafah, including urgent evacuation orders from Israel’s military, have raised alarms internationally. The Biden administration has made it clear that Rafah is a red line, urging Israel to consider civilian safety in its operations. However, Israeli authorities have pressed on, ordering Palestinians to evacuate from Al-Mawasi, a coastal territory in southern Gaza, leading to concerns about humanitarian conditions in the area.

US-Israel Dynamics and Domestic Pressures

The delay of a bomb shipment to Israel by the Biden administration underscores the delicate balance between supporting Israel’s security and addressing domestic and international concerns about civilian casualties. While the US has traditionally been a strong ally of Israel, recent developments, including protests and criticisms from within the Democratic Party, have added complexity to US-Israel relations.

Regional and International Ramifications

The conflict in Gaza has broader implications beyond the immediate humanitarian crisis. The Biden administration is keen on preventing further regional escalation, particularly into Egypt or Lebanon, which could trigger wider conflicts involving Hezbollah and other regional actors.

Challenges in Reducing Escalation

Despite efforts to contain the violence and pressure Israel to exercise restraint, the situation remains volatile. The White House’s cautious approach reflects a balancing act between supporting Israel and addressing international concerns about civilian casualties and humanitarian crises in Gaza.

Diplomatic Efforts

The evolving situation in Rafah underscores the challenges in achieving a lasting ceasefire and addressing the underlying grievances fueling the Israel-Gaza conflict. Diplomatic efforts continue, but the complexities of regional dynamics and domestic pressures in both the US and Israel present significant hurdles to de-escalation and long-term peace in the region.

</excerpt>

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Thursday morning for a two-day state visit, marking a significant development in the strengthening ties between Moscow and Beijing amidst strained relations with the West, as reported by CNN.

Since this is Putin’s first international trip since taking office anew last week, it has significant symbolic meaning. In the midst of tensions with Western powers, it also highlights Beijing and Moscow’s growing friendship.

Putin’s arrival in China came at the same time as Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, declared that all upcoming foreign visits would be suspended while his forces confronted Russian advances in the northeastern Kharkiv region.CNN reports that discussions between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to encompass the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Gaza war, as well as the expansion of their trade, security, and energy partnerships.

Prior to his visit, Putin lauded the “unprecedented level of strategic partnership” between the two nations in an interview with Chinese state media Xinhua. He expressed aims to enhance foreign policy coordination and deepen cooperation across various sectors including industry, high-tech, space exploration, nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and other innovative domains.

Putin also praised China’s approach to resolving the crisis in Ukraine. Notably, while Beijing has refrained from condemning Russia’s actions, it maintains a stance of ‘neutrality’ and advocates for peace talks considering the perspectives of both sides.

Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, both leaders have intensified diplomatic, trade, and security collaborations. Despite sanctions imposed by several countries targeting Russia, trade between Moscow and Beijing has flourished, reaching unprecedented levels last year.

This marks the fourth face-to-face meeting between Xi and Putin since the conflict began, with Putin’s second visit to Beijing during this period. Xi had also visited Moscow in 2023 after commencing his new term as China’s president, as reported by CNN.

During their meetings in Beijing, the leaders are anticipated to sign multiple bilateral agreements and commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations with a “gala event,” according to Chinese state media. Additionally, Putin is expected to visit Harbin, the capital of China’s northeastern Heilongjiang province bordering Russia’s Far East, where he will participate in trade and cooperation forums.

</excerpt>

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham compared the fight between Israel and Hamas to World war II, stating that the US’s choice to drop nuclear bombs on Japan to finish the war was the “right decision” and that Israel should likewise be given the bombs “they need” to do the same.

The President Joe Biden was chastised by Republican Senator Graham, who is an ardent supporter of Israel, for stopping the shipment of three thousand heavy bombs to Israel.

Graham stated the following in an interview with NBC News on Sunday: “We opted to terminate the war by bombing [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons when we were confronted with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbour, fighting the Germans and the Japanese…Making that choice was the right one.”

He further stated, “Provide Israel with the necessary bombs to bring an end to the conflict. They cannot afford defeat.” Expanding on this, the Senator compared Israel’s situation to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, events that resulted in the deaths of over 200,000 people and left countless others deeply traumatized.

He emphasized that Israel should take whatever measures necessary to ensure its survival as a Jewish state, echoing, “Why was it acceptable for America to utilize two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to conclude their existential threat conflict? Why was that deemed acceptable? I believed it was acceptable,” Graham asserted. Additionally, he urged Israel to take any steps required to maintain itself as a Jewish state, stating, “So, Israel, do whatever you need to do to persevere as a Jewish state. Whatever actions are necessary.”

The Republican Senator also asserted that Hamas bears responsibility for civilian casualties in the conflict by using civilians as ‘human shields’. “I believe it’s impossible to reduce civilian deaths in Gaza as long as Hamas employs their own population as human shields. I’ve never witnessed such blatant actions by an enemy – Hamas – to endanger civilians,” Graham remarked. “The last thing you want to do is encourage this behavior.”

President Joe Biden recently halted the delivery of 3000 heavy bombs to Israel and pledged to withhold further offensive weaponry if Israeli forces initiate a major operation in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians seek refuge. Biden’s decision to pause the heavy bomb deliveries, coupled with his critique of Israel’s military campaign and his warning of additional weapon withholding in case of a Rafah incursion, coincides with widespread college protests in the US and discontent with the war from certain Democrats and his left flank.

</excerpt>

Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to meet militant organisation Hamas’ political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh on Saturday to have talks in Istanbul regarding the ongoing Gaza war, state broadcaster TRT reported.

Additional details regarding the content of the discussions between the two individuals were not immediately available.

Haniyeh met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Qatar on Wednesday to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, according to the state news agency Anadolu.

Erdogan publicly endorses Hamas. During his address to the Knesset earlier this week, Netanyahu compared Hamas to Turkish independence fighters fighting Western armies in Anatolia in the 1920s.

During the same address, the Turkish leader criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what he referred to as an ongoing “massacre” in Gaza. Israel has strongly refuted Erdogan’s remarks.

Despite the president’s verbal criticisms, Turkey has recently intensified its efforts to mediate in the Gaza conflict.

Efforts to negotiate, primarily facilitated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, have thus far been unsuccessful.

The war began on Oct 7, when Hamas and other terrorist groups launched an unprecedented invasion into southern Israel, killing over 1,200 people—the great majority of them were civilians—and kidnapping nearly 250 others, taking them into Gaza. Though more than thirty hostages have already been confirmed dead either killed on October 7 or from being held captive, Israel claims that over 130 captives are still in Gaza.

Israel’s response included extensive airstrikes and a ground offensive in Gaza, resulting in over 33,000 casualties in the strip. The significant civilian death toll and dire humanitarian conditions in the area have led to mounting international criticism of Israel, even from its close allies.

Working with the elite Shayetet 13 unit, members of the IDF’s Commando Brigade raided terror infrastructure in the Hamad Towers region of the city.

Many terrorists, including two Hamas squad commanders and the commander of a Hamas sniper cell, were captured by the army when they turned themselves in.
Large quantities of weaponry, including Kalashnikov rifles, grenades, vests, RPGs, explosives, ammunition, explosive kits, and closed-circuit diving systems meant for use by terrorists and the military, were also taken by the soldiers.

Other terrorists connected to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad were also taken into custody.
Dozens of terrorists were apprehended fleeing among the people in recent days when Israeli soldiers evacuated inhabitants from the towers.

Terrorists from Hamas’s elite Nukhba unit have been detained, some of whom took part in the October 7 massacre. Many people are already being questioned, according to the IDF.

Constructed with funds from Qatar after the 2012 Gaza War, the Hamad storeys are a residential complex consisting of forty storeys that were first opened in 2016.
The second-largest city in Gaza, Khan Yunis is thought to be Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s personal stronghold.

On October 7, Hamas attacked Israeli communities close to the Gaza border, resulting in at least 1,200 deaths and the kidnapping of 240 Israelis and foreigners. Israel has declared 31 hostages out of the remaining 134 to be dead.

He was responsible for producing videos of rocket attacks and distributing documentation of Israeli hostages as part of the group’s psychological warfare. Abu-Fanounah was released in the Gilad Shalit prisoner swap of 2011.

Additionally, Israel conducted operations in central and northern Gaza, seizing weaponry and engaging and killing armed terrorists. The ongoing conflict has resulted in casualties, with at least 1,200 people killed in Hamas attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7.

The number of captives held by Hamas is reported to be 136, with efforts ongoing to identify bodies and locate missing individuals.

</excerpt>

Farooq Abdullah, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, gave a dire warning on Tuesday, stating that in the absence of political talks, the Union Territory would suffer a fate akin to Gaza. He called on the leaders of Pakistan and India to have talks to resolve their differences.

Speaking to ANI, Abdullah invoked the wisdom of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, noting, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said that we can change our friends but not our neighbors.”If we remain friendly with our neighbors, both will progress.” He highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s stance on the matter, stating that war is not an option and issues should be resolved through dialogue.

Expressing concern over the lack of dialogue between India and Pakistan, Abdullah questioned, “Where is the dialogue? Nawaz Sharif is about to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and they are saying that we are ready to talk (with India), but what is the reason why we are not ready to talk?” He cautioned that without a resolution through dialogue, Kashmir could face a situation similar to Gaza and Palestine, which are currently experiencing conflict with Israel.

Recalling historical events, Abdullah referenced Vajpayee’s visit to Pakistan in 1999, just months before the Kargil War, and Modi’s surprise meeting with Nawaz in 2015. He acknowledged that continuous attempts by Pakistan to infiltrate Indian territory with terrorists have strained relations.

The 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 further exacerbated tensions between India and Pakistan. Abdullah’s warning comes in the wake of a recent terror attack on an Army convoy in the Poonch sector, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers.

“The Friday prayers were allowed and concluded without any disturbance,” an official said.
However, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who delivers the Friday sermons at the grand mosque, was not allowed to move out of his residence in the Nigeen area of the city.

The congregational prayers had remained barred for 10 weeks because of apprehensions of protests against the Israeli action in Gaza.
In a statement, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, the managing body of the mosque, expressed resentment over the administration’s decision of not allowing the Mirwaiz to carry out his “official religious responsibilities”.

“Mirwaiz was not allowed to carry out his official religious responsibilities and authorities did not provide any reason for such restrictions,” the statement said.
The Auqaf said that “detaining the Mirwaiz for the 11th consecutive Friday is a serious concern for the Anjuman Auqaf as well as the people whose emotions and sentiments are getting hurt by such arbitrary action of the administration”.

</excerpt>

Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics recently disclosed a staggering decline in tourism arrivals and Israeli departures for the month of November 2023, reflecting a significant impact of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

According to the data, the number of tourists arriving in Israel witnessed a staggering plunge, with only 39,000 visitors recorded, marking an over 90% decrease compared to November 2022’s 369,800 arrivals. Remarkably, 42.1% of these tourists hailed from the United States.

Further analysis revealed that out of the total arrivals, only 38,300 were tourists, marking a substantial decrease from 330,700 tourists in the corresponding month of the previous year.

This revelation of a substantial reduction in travel, both into and out of Israel, highlights the repercussions of the ongoing tensions, influencing international visitor numbers and Israeli outbound travel significantly. The sharp decline in both tourism arrivals and Israeli departures signifies the tumultuous effect of the conflict on travel patterns in the region.
