Following heavy rainfall in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, a car plunges into a massive crater as section of road earlier caved out.

According to video shared by PTI, a white car had fallen into crater, which was formed after road caved.

Earlier, a road collapsed in Ahmedabad’s Shela area due to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, Gujarat witnessed heavy rainfall in various parts of the state, the Palsana taluka in Surat district received 153 mm of rainfall in mere 10 hours, reporting a highest in the state.

Due to rain, it had drastically affected daily lives of people in Surat, Bhuj, Vapi, Bharuch and Ahmedabad as traffic movement is impacted in these places due to inundation of low-lying areas. Thus, leaving some roads and underpass inaccessible.

According to IMD, similar monsoon conditions are likely to prevail in the state for next upcoming four days.

The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, nestled in the heart of Gujarat, is a testament to India’s rich democratic heritage. Established in 1967, this prestigious parliamentary seat has witnessed the rise and fall of political titans, shaping the course of the state’s and the nation’s history. As the nation gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gandhinagar finds itself at the epicenter of political discourse, drawing attention to its diverse electorate and the fierce battles that have defined its legacy. This is a constituency comprising 7 assembly segments Gandhinagar North, Kalol, Sanand, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Naranpura, and Sabarmati. It’s an urban-dominated constituency with 79% urban electorate and 21% rural electorate. The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency boasts a diverse voter base, encompassing urban professionals, government employees, and the rural population. Beyond its political significance, the city is renowned for its cultural festivals, verdant spaces, and architectural marvels like the Akshardham temple.

From Congress to BJP’s Citadel
In its early years, the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat was a stronghold of the Indian National Congress (INC). Somchandbhai Solanki, the inaugural Member of Parliament (MP) from this constituency, served as a beacon of Congress’ influence from 1967 to 1977. However, the political landscape shifted in 1977 when a non-congress MP Purushottam Ganesh Mavalankar was elected on the ticket of the Janta Party. Again, in 1980, Amrit Mohanal Patel from Congress and GI Patel from Congress in 1984 succeeded in winning the seat but this was the last time Congress attained this seat. After that, the seat became the citadel of the BJP in 1989 when Shankersinh Vaghela, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emerged victorious, marking the beginning of a new era.
Since that pivotal moment, the BJP has maintained an unwavering grip on the Gandhinagar constituency, winning ten consecutive elections from 1989 to 2019. This unbroken streak is a testament to the party’s deep-rooted connection with the electorate and its ability to resonate with the aspirations of the diverse populace.
In 1996, Vajpayee contested from both Gandhinagar and Lucknow. After winning from both seats, Vajpayee chose to retain the Lucknow seat. Following this, in the by-election held for the Gandhinagar seat, the Congress fielded Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna against BJP’s Vijay Patel but lost. In 1998, the Congress fielded P.K. Datta, a former Director General of Police from Gujarat, against Advani. In 1999, the Congress fielded Sheshan against Advani, who was serving as the Chief Election Commissioner and was known for his tough stance. Sheshan lost but put up a strong fight.

Major Winners
The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat has been graced by some of India’s most influential political figures, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s history. Lal Krishna Advani, a stalwart of the BJP, won the constituency six times, from 1991 to 2014, barring 1996, when the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, another BJP luminary and former Prime Minister, contested and emerged victorious.
Advani’s six-term tenure solidifies Gandhinagar’s significance in the BJP’s political narrative, while Vajpayee’s victory further underscores the seat’s importance. Additionally, the constituency has been represented by notable figures like Shankersinh Vaghela, who later became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and Amit Shah, the current Union Home Minister and a formidable force in Indian politics. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who represents the Ghatlodia Assembly segment within Gandhinagar, was among the campaigners for Shah.
Diverse Electorate: A Reflection of India’s Plurality Gandhinagar’s electorate is a microcosm of India’s rich cultural tapestry, comprising individuals from various religious, caste, and socio-economic backgrounds. According to the 2019 data, the constituency boasts a total of 19,45,772 voters, with a staggering 86% residing in urban areas and 14% in rural regions.
The religious composition of the constituency is Hindu dominant, with Hindus constituting 92.86% of the population, followed by Muslims (4.1%), Jains (2.21%), Christians (0.58%), Sikhs (0.19%), and Buddhists (0.06%). Additionally, Gandhinagar is home to a significant Scheduled Caste (SC) population of 8.3% and a Scheduled Tribe (ST) population of 1.4%. (As per 2019 )

In 2014, LK Advani’s victory was resounding, with a total of 773,539 votes in his favor. His Indian National Congress (INC) counterpart, Kiritbhai Ishvarbhai Patel, trailed significantly behind, underscoring the BJP’s dominance in the constituency. Fast forward to 2019, in the Lok Sabha elections, the party’s candidate, Chatursingh Javanji Chavda, garnered only 26.6% of the votes, while Amit Shah secured a resounding victory with 69.58% of the vote share. He won by a huge margin of over 5.5 lakh votes.
This setback for the Congress highlights the party’s waning influence in a once-stronghold, as the BJP’s grip on the constituency has only strengthened over the years. However, Amit Shah is more popular as compared to his predecessor. As the Home Minister, he is engaged in several duties, but even after that, he manages to attend the event every month. Women from his family visit the constituency frequently to know the conditions and the problems of the residents.

This time the Congress fielded its All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Sonal Patel who contested in the Gujarat Assembly 2022 election from Naranpura but lost.

As per data from the Election Commission of India, in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Gandhinagar had a total of 1,945,772 voters. Among them, 1,004,291 were male, 941,434 were female, and 47 identified as third gender. Additionally, there were 8,637 postal votes and 623 service voters (584 men and 39 women).
In the previous election of 2014, Gandhinagar had 1,733,972 voters. Of these, 900,744 were male, 833,210 were female, and 18 belonged to the ‘others’ category.
There were also 8,358 postal votes and 895 service voters (723 men and 172 women).
In the Lok Sabha elections held in Gandhinagar, 14,214 individuals opted for the “None of the Above” (NOTA) option on their ballots in 2019, constituting 1.11% of the total voters. Similarly, in 2014, 12,777 voters, accounting for 1.12% of the total, chose the NOTA option in the same constituency.

Gandhinagar Voter Turnout
During the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, 12,84,090 valid votes were cast, marking a turnout of 65.99%. In comparison, the 2014 elections saw 11,35,495 valid votes, with a turnout of 65.49% in this constituency.”

PM Modi Pays A Visit To BJP Office In Gujarat’s Gandhinagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to the Gujarat BJP office in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

This occurred after his participation in an election rally in Himmatnagar town of the neighbouring Sabarkantha district earlier in the day. Sharing images from his visit on X platform, PM Modi praised the exceptional enthusiasm of BJP workers by and called it “outstanding”.

Various prominent BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state unit president CR Paatil, greeted Modi upon his arrival. The Prime Minister is in Gujarat for a two-day visit to garner voter support for party candidates before the May 7 polling. Earlier today, PM Modi delivered consecutive election rallies in Deesa town of Banaskantha and Himmatnagar town of Sabarkantha.

In Banaskantha, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his stance on “religion-based reservation” on Wednesday, emphasizing that the Congress, its “shehzada,” and INDIA bloc parties ought to announce their commitment to abstain from implementing religion-based reservations.

“This Congress ‘Jamaat’ should listen, as long as Modi is alive, there will be no reservation based on religion. Reservations for SC, ST, and OBCs have been given by the Constitution, and no one can take them away,” he added.

PM Modi stated in Sabarkantha, Gujarat, on Wednesday that previously, when terrorists attacked, the feeble government used to dispatch dossiers, but in New India today, terrorists receive a stern response.

PM Modi said, “The Congress used to scare people that if the Ram Mandir is constructed, then there would be chaos in the country… There was no chaos in the country but there is chaos in the heart of the Congress.”

“They said that if Article 370 is abrogated, then the country will break and there would be rivers of blood… But this is Modi. Now Article 370 is abrogated and the Tricolour is hoisted at the Lal Chowk with full glory,” PM Modi added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the leaders of the Czech Republic, Mozambique, and Timor-Leste during the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. Welcoming Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala to the summit, PM Modi greeted him in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with a handshake.

Following this, PM Modi also met with Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and Timor-Leste’s President, Jose Ramos-Horta in Gandhinagar. Petr Fiala, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, had arrived in Ahmedabad the previous day to participate in the three-day Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit from January 10 to 12. The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Gateway to the Future,’ celebrating 20 years of Vibrant Gujarat as the Summit of Success.

PM Narendra Modi arrives in Ahmedabad to inaugurate Vibrant Gujarat Summit

At Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day visit to Ahmedabad on Monday in preparation for the opening of the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024. Held on January 10–12, the summit’s theme is “Gateway to the Future” in honor of “20 Years of Vibrant Gujarat as the Summit of Success.” Governor Acharya Devvrat, Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil, and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel welcomed PM Modi. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, is among the world leaders who will be present at the investors summit, according to PM Modi.

During the second day of his three-day visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a hectic schedule. According to his office, he is set to arrive at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar at 9:30 am for bilateral meetings with world leaders, followed by discussions with the CEOs of major global corporations.

Later in the day, around 3 pm, Modi will inaugurate the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show. In the evening, a 3-km roadshow in Ahmedabad is scheduled with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit will be inaugurated by the PM on Wednesday.

On a two-day visit to Ahmedabad, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand paid a visit to the famous Atal foot overbridge that links the eastern and western sections of the Sabarmati Riverfront on Wednesday night. Dhami said that the bridge is a unique example of contemporary technology and that both its stunning structure and the beauty of Sabarmati draw tourists. Better plans have also been made for people’s mobility in relation to this.

The Uttarakhand Chief Minister was briefed by the Project Head of Atal Bridge. CM Dhami also instructed Secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey to explore the possibilities of building a bridge on the lines of the Atal Bridge in Uttarakhand.

Fire breaks out in building in Gandhinagar

On Thursday morning in the Gandhi Nagar neighborhood of the capital, a fire started in the basement warehouse of an organization that repairs air conditioning compressors. Information indicates that the fire started this morning around 9 am in a crowded market in east Delhi and that the fire department was notified at 9:05 am. On schedule, three fire trucks arrived and put out the fire. The fire destroyed every AC compressor. There have been no reported casualties, and the fire’s origin is still unknown. Bhupendra Patel takes oath as Gujarat CM

Bharatiya Janata Party made a historic win in Gujarat and Bhupendra Patel takes oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on Monday in Gandhinagar in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 18th Chief Minister Governor Acharya Devvrat will administrated the oath ceremony of Bhupendra Patel at the Helipad Ground near the new Secretariat in Gandhinagar.

Bhupendra Patel’s oath ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers of BJP-led states.

Meanwhile, along with Bhupendra Patel, 20 cabinet ministers will also take an oath and from the next day, they will take charge of their respective offices.

Moreover, the ministers which are likely to take Harsh Sanghavi, Hrishikesh Patel, Kanubhai Desai, Raghavji Patel, Mulubhai Bera, Purushottam Solanki, Kunvarji Bavaliya, Bhanuben Manoharbhai Babariya, Kuber Dindor, Balwant Singh Rajput, Bachu Khabad, Jagdish Panchal, Mukesh Patel, Bhikhu Sinh Parmar.

Earlier on Thursday BJP gained a majority in the Gujarat Assembly election 2022 by getting 156 seats. Exit polls also predicted a return of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Gujarat by breaking all the records by the ruling party and BJP did that.

Since 1995 Bharatiya Janata Party has not lost an election in Gujarat. BJP party has been in power and Narendra Modi is the longest-serving chief minister of the state. In 2017 BJP won 99 seats out of 182 seats.

However, in 2021 Patel was sworn in as the 17th Chief Minister of Gujarat on 13 September, and on 12 September 2021 Patel was first elected as BJP legislative party leader.

Gujarat elections: Congress aims to turn tide in BJP’s stronghold of Gandhinagar

South Gandhinagar has historically been a stronghold of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but Himanshu Patel of the Congress aims to change that with the help of urgent problems like education, a focus on rural areas, and grumblings of discontent within the governing party about its nominee.

“Many want to educate children in rural areas but are denied permission to set up schools. The Narmada waters have not been provided for irrigation…The corporators have not spent anything on works needed,” Patel said as he campaigned last week in the Tarapur village ahead of the second phase of Gujarat polls on Monday.

Two kilometres away from the boundary of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation is the town of Tarapur, which has a population of just over 2000.

Patel, who ran against Union Home Minister Amit Shah unsuccessfully in the 2002 assembly elections from Sarkhej, is relying on the BJP’s apparent indifference to rural areas like Tarapur.

In place of Shambhuji Thakor, the BJP has put Other Backward Caste leader Alpesh Thakor on the ballot. Alpesh Thakor gained notoriety by opposing the Patidar quota demand in 2015. Before the 2017 elections, Alpesh Thakor switched to the Congress and won the Radhanpur district. Prior to the 2019 presidential election, he switched parties, joining the BJP. In the by-election held in October 2019, Raghu Desai of the Congress defeated him.

Gandhinagar’s Shambhuji Thakor won in 2007, however after delimitation in 2009, the seat was split into two. Most of the population in Gandhinagar North is urban. The neighbouring villages, some of which are in the Ahmedabad district, are under the jurisdiction of the Gandhinagar South seat. The seat was kept by the BJP in the 2017 local elections.

People with knowledge of the situation claimed that a survey led the BJP to field Lavingji Thakor from Radhanpur rather than Alpesh Thakor. Additionally, posters and banners urging Alpesh Thakor to remain in Radhanpur before the BJP fielded him appeared in Gandhinagar.

Shambhuji Thakor said local party workers were opposed to the nomination of an outsider. “The people of any constituency always prefer a local representative. But it is the party’s decision. So what can we do?”

SP Thakor, a BJP functionary in Gandhinagar, said they wanted a local candidate from any community. “But the party decided against it and fielded Alpesh Thakor. So we are happy and are working hard for his win.”

In Gandhinagar South, almost 200000 of the 371598 voters reside in urban areas, while the remaining 150000 do so in rural areas. The Thakor community makes up the majority of voters in rural areas. In total, there are about 100000 Thakor, 60000 Patel, and 40000 Schedule Caste voters in this seat.

District Congress chief Arvindsinh Solanki said the Thakor community is against Alpesh Thakor and this will be clear in the election results. “We have a presence in the constituency’s 35 to 40 villages. In the earlier elections, the BJP would gain major votes from the Chandkheda and Motera regions…this time it will be different as even in these places people are backing the Congress.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s nominee Daulat Patel, a farmer from Motera, said the people in the constituency are fed up with the price rise. “The other problems are schools… There are inadequate schools…and irrigation. If the AAP forms the government, our priority will be to improve education and healthcare facilities. So many villages are devoid of any medical facilities. People need a change and I am sure I will win.”

PM Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi casts her vote

In the ongoing second phase of the Assembly elections in Gujarat Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Heeraben Modi cast her vote on Monday.

Earlier on 18 June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his mother Heeraben on her 100th birthday.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi cast his vote at Nishan Public School in Ahmedabad and also thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat.

“The festival of democracy has been celebrated with great pomp by the people of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi. I want to thank the people of the country. I also want to congratulate Election Commission for conducting elections peacefully,” PM Modi said.

Moreover, in the same polling booth, PM Modi’s elder brother Somabhai Modi cast his vote and got emotional talking about the Prime Minister.

Talking to the media PM Modi’s brother Somabhai said, “I asked him (PM Modi) that he works a lot for the country, and he should take some rest as well.”

Since 2014 at the national level people of the country cannot ignore the kind of work that is being done.

“My only message to the voters is that they should use their votes well. They should vote for such a party that would work for the development of the country. The people have seen the kind of work that has been done at the national level since 2014, they cannot ignore it. People will vote based on that,” Somabhai said.

However, the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly polls in 93 seats across 14 districts of the state is underway. In the second phase of the Gujarat elections, over 2.51 crore electorates will decide the fate of 833 candidates from 61 parties.

Furthermore, the counting of the votes in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will take place on 8 December.

On October 18, Gujarat will host the India-Africa Defence Dialogue.

The Ministry of Defence announced on Sunday that the India-Africa Defence Dialogue will be held on October 18 on the sidelines of DefExpo 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

According to a press statement from the Defence Ministry, Rajnath Singh will host the defence ministers of African nations on Tuesday during the India-Africa Defence Dialogue (IADD) that will take place alongside the 12th DefExpo in Gujarat. “India-Africa: Adopting Strategy for Synergizing and Strengthening Defence and Security Cooperation” is the dialogue’s overarching theme. Africa and India have long-standing historical links. The Kampala Principles, which were announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, serve as the foundation for India’s policy toward Africa. Indian involvement is based on priorities set out by Africans themselves.

On February 6, 2020, in conjunction with DefExpo, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh hosted the inaugural India-Africa Defence Ministers Conclave. At the conclusion of the conclave, a Joint Declaration known as the “Lucknow Declaration” was adopted.
In keeping with the “Lucknow Declaration” and after consultation with all relevant parties, IAAD has been formalised to take place on the margins of DefExpo every two years.
The IADD will look into new areas of convergence for mutual involvement, including counterterrorism, cyber security, training, and capacity building.

Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express coach damaged from collision with animals

On Thursday, the recently launched Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express was damaged after it ran into some livestock on the railroad track close to the Vatva train station in Gujarat.

A railway official reported that the tragedy claimed the lives of four buffalo and that it happened about 11.15 a.m.

The path near Vatva had a curve that led to a blind spot region. About 100 kmph was the average speed of the train. The official reported that the fiber-based front section of the train had been harmed.

No functioning component was harmed in the event, according to a representative for the railways. “The train departed shortly after the carcasses were removed and arrived at Gandhinagar on schedule. The incident happened between the stations of Gairatpur and Vatva. According to the spokeswoman, the railways are attempting to advise the local residents not to leave their animals close to the track.
