Gadar 2: overtakes ‘Baahubali 2’ and becomes second-highest grossing Hindi film

Gadar 2, a recently released movie starring Sunny Deol, has dominated the box office, earning a staggering Rs 515.03 crore in just over a month.

The movie has overtaken the lifetime earnings of the Hindi-language version of “Baahubali 2,” which stars Prabhas, and is now the second-highest-grossing Hindi movie. On Monday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh published a message on Instagram concerning the box office receipts.

‘Gadar 2’, directed by Anil Sharma, is a continuation of the popular movie that debuted in theatres in 2001. The movie, which takes place during the 1947 Indian Partition, stars Sunny Deol as the truck driver Tara and Ameesha Patel as Sakina.

The craze among the fans for Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer ‘Gadar 2’ doesn’t seem to end soon.

The film has now achieved another milestone as it has now entered Rs 500 crore club.
On Sunday, the film minted Rs 7.80 crores which took the film’s total collection to Rs 501.17 crores.

With this ‘Gadar 2’ has become the third film to cross the Rs 500 crore margin after ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Pathaan’.

Helmed by Anil Sharma the film also starred Utkarsh Sharma and Ameesha Patel in the lead roles.

‘Gadar 2’ minted Rs 40 crore on its opening day in theatres, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh. It became the second-best opener of 2023 after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’.
‘Gadar 2′ is a sequel to the hit film which was released in theatres in 2001. In the film, Sunny Deol played the role of Tara, a truck driver, while Ameesha Patel played Sakina in the film that was set during the partition of India in 1947.

As he arrived at the party wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black boots, Aamir kept his outfit understated. In front of the cameras, the “Ghajini” actor was seen posing with Sunny. On social media, a number of images and videos of the actors hugging each other quickly gained popularity.

Mithoon’s collaboration with the ‘Gadar 2’ team has produced a musical soundtrack that not only honours the legacy of the first movie but also added a new and modern perspective.

Talking about his excitement about the success of the movie, Mithoon said, “’Gadar 2’ has become a festival many people waited for it. Now, a celebration of ‘Gadar 2’ has spread all over the country. I have seen many highs in my life but, I have seen this kind of madness for the first time.”

“We have learned that the essence of Gita. It also says that change is the rule of life. Things that change continue to be relevant and should continue to evolve. I never did anything artificial, and I only did what I felt like doing at the time,” he continued.

He added, “When I did the music of ‘Gadar 2,’ it looks like I have done the song in ‘Dil jhoom’ in the movie that is shown in the story that it is filmed in Pakistan. We have tried to incorporate the language and environment that is there. There is a herd who is praying in a different way, its essence is in what Sukhwinder Singh has sung for it, so I think every story. Every situation has its own fragrance and according to that, when we act differently.”

About his music, Mithoon said, “I am a human being first and foremost, and humans are very aware of emotion. Our entire being is made up of emotion, and I try to incorporate that into my music. Overwhelmed with the positive response that the film has garnered since its theatrical release, actor Akshay Kumar on Thursday not only expressed gratitude to moviegoers but also wished success for ‘Gadar 2’, which is also making waves at the box office.

Akshay took to Instagram, sharing a short clip from the movie along with a ‘thank you’ note.

On Independence Day, the Akshay-starrer raked in Rs 17. 10 crores at the box office.

“#OMG2 is trending EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, the jump on #IndependenceDay is an EYE-OPENER… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 15.30 cr, Sun 17.55 cr, Mon 12.06 cr, Tue 17.10 cr. Total: ₹ 72.27 cr. #India biz… #OMG2 is displaying strong legs at the #BO,” Adarsh posted on X.

“Let’s face it, the clash with #Gadar2 has eroded its true potential… #OMG2 would’ve easily collected much, much more, if it hadn’t released alongside a Tsunami called #Gadar2,” he added in his post.

Despite facing tough competition from Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’, ‘OMG 2’ has fared phenomenally well at the box office.

On day 6 ‘Gadar 2’ minted a total of 261.35 crore.

Helmed by Amit Rai, ‘OMG 2’ also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in lead roles. The film piqued the interest of the audience since the makers unveiled the film’s posters and teaser. Several reports claimed that the film was put on hold by the censor board as it wanted to tread with caution due to its overtly religious theme.

However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared the film for release with some cuts. The censor board gave an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certification to the film.

‘OMG 2’ marked Akshay’s 10th Independence Day release and seems to have turned the tide in his career after a string of flops.

‘Gadar 2’: New Motion Poster Unveiled

Makers of the upcoming action drama film ‘Gadar 2’ on Friday unveiled a new motion poster featuring Sunny Deol and Utkarsh Sharma.

Taking to Instagram, production house Zee Studios dropped the poster which they captioned, “Apne desh aur parivaar ki raksha ke liye, har chunauti ka samna karne ke liye taiyaar hai Tara Singh!. #Gadar2 aa rahi hai bade parde par lagane iss Independence Day! Cinemas mein 11th August se.”

Apart from Sunny Deol’s iconic dialogue ‘Hindustan Zindabad’, the motion poster sees his on-screen lovable chemistry with his son Utkarsh Sharma, who is seen sporting a rugged, bearded look as they hold hands and are on the run, amidst gunfire and explosion!

Helmed by Anil Sharma, the film also stars Ameesha Patel in the lead role.

Recently the makers unveiled the films’ teaser, and the songs ‘Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava’ and ‘Khairiyat’ which received massive responses from the audience.

Utkarsh played Sunny and Ameesha’s son in the cult classic film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ And 22 years later, as the film returns with a sequel ‘Gadar 2’, the actor is returning too, this time as a leading man.

The film is all set to hit the theatres on August 11.

Nana Patekar Lends His Voice For Sunny Deol Starrer Gadar 2

Veteran actor Nana Patekar has lent his voice to Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer upcoming period action film ‘Gadar 2’. Taking to Instagram, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the updates on Monday.

He wrote, “#Xclusiv… NANA PATEKAR DOES VOICEOVER FOR ‘GADAR 2’… #NanaPatekar has lent his voice for #Gadar2… #Nana’s voiceover will introduce #Gadar2 to the moviegoers at the very start of the film. It may be recalled that #OmPuri had done the voiceover for the introductory scenes of #Gadar [first part], way back in 2001.”

The new version is a part of ‘Gadar 2’, which will hit the theatres on ‘August 11’.
