Airline confirmed seven cases; food poisoning is suspected. All affected were treated; an investigation is in progress.
</excerpt>

An Air India flight from London to Mumbai turned into a health scare when several people fell ill mid-air. The flight, AI-130, was flying at 35,000 feet when five passengers and two crew members began to feel dizzy and nauseous. The airline confirmed the incident and said it is investigating the cause.

Air India Flight Passengers Fall Sick Mid-Air

The Boeing 777 landed safely in Mumbai, where medical teams were ready to help. “On board flight AI-130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai, five passengers and two crew reported feeling dizzy and nauseous during different phases of the flight,” Air India said. After landing, two passengers and two crew members were taken for checkups and later discharged.

Initial reports claimed that 11 people were unwell, but Air India clarified that only seven were affected. A senior source said cabin pressurisation problems were unlikely, since no oxygen masks were deployed. “Drop in cabin pressurisation is not likely to be the cause,” the source said.

Food Poisoning Suspected

Investigators now suspect food poisoning. Experts say foodborne illness or poor oxygen supply can cause nausea during flights. The pilots remained unaffected. “Pilots get their meal after the passengers have been served. They get the same food, but they eat it later,” a source explained.

Previously, pilots received meals from different kitchens as a safety step. This ensured that even if one pilot got sick from food, the other would stay fit to fly. That system was in place to avoid both pilots falling ill due to the same cause.

This is not the first issue for Air India recently. A different aircraft, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, is already under review after another safety incident. In another case, two Air India flights were canceled and one grounded due to engine trouble.

Air India has told aviation authorities about the incident and promised a full investigation. The airline says it is reviewing its food service and health safety rules to stop such cases in the future.

</excerpt>

Three children died and several others were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning at a hostel run by the Aaradana Trust in Kailasa Patnam, Kotavuratla Mandal, Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, on Monday, Anakapalli Collector Vijaya Krishnan reported.

The deceased include two girls and one boy. The hostel houses 86 children, and 27 of them fell ill after consuming poisoned biryani. Five critically ill children were transferred to Visakhapatnam KGH on Monday morning. The affected children, ranging from first to fifth grade, also study at a local school.

The incident unfolded after the children began vomiting following their meal. The hostel staff promptly informed the parents, who arrived to take their children home. Despite these efforts, two girls, Shadda and Bhavani from Chintapalli Mandal, and a boy, Joshua from Koyyur Mandal, passed away while being transported to Narsipatnam Area Hospital. Seven others were taken to the hospital in critical condition, with five later moved to Visakhapatnam. Sixteen children are currently receiving treatment at government hospitals in Chintapalli, Paderu, and Koyyur.

Narsipatnam RDO HV Jayaram is on-site, overseeing the situation.

YSRCP Chief and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy expressed profound sorrow and shock over the incident. He called for enhanced medical support for the affected students and immediate aid for the families of the deceased. Reddy criticized the government’s negligence, stating that the tragedy underscores significant flaws in monitoring systems. He urged the government to focus on systemic improvements and preventive measures rather than engaging in political blame and propaganda.

</excerpt>

Everyone enjoys delicious food, as it provides our bodies with essential nourishment and energy. However, food poisoning becomes a common issue, especially during the monsoon season. The high humidity and damp conditions create an ideal environment for bacteria and other pathogens to thrive, contaminating food and water. Consuming adulterated or stale food can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, inflammation, bloating, and diarrhea.

If you frequently experience food-borne illnesses, adopting certain healthy habits is crucial to prevent food poisoning. Take certain precautions during the monsoon to keep your stomach healthy:

Wash Food Thoroughly: Always clean vegetables, rice, or pulses with water before cooking to remove any dust particles or bacteria. This essential step helps avoid consuming contaminated food that can cause food poisoning.

Be Mindful of Dairy Products: Check the expiry dates and ensure dairy products are properly stored in the refrigerator. Opt for pasteurized milk and dairy products to reduce the risk of bacterial contamination.

Store Cooked Food Properly: Cooked food should be stored in the refrigerator, as keeping it at room temperature can lead to spoilage. Ensure that both cooked food and vegetables are refrigerated to prevent bacterial growth.

Keep Your Hands Clean: Always sanitize your hands, especially when cooking, serving, or eating food. Maintaining good hygiene is directly related to our health, so washing hands before eating is crucial to avoid germs.

Consume Freshly Cooked Food: Leftovers are convenient but more susceptible to bacterial growth. If you must store leftovers, refrigerate them properly and reheat thoroughly before eating. During the monsoon season, it’s best to avoid street food due to unreliable hygiene practices.

Colin recently shared a video from Delhi, where he embarked on a street food tour with the aim of inducing food poisoning. He sought out some of the “strangest things to eat” in the city, starting with dal kachori, which he described as delicious. He then sampled samosas, which he found “really good,” and a chuski (ice lolly) that he struggled to finish, commenting that it “kind of tastes like freshly cut grass.”

</excerpt>

Actress Janhvi Kapoor was admitted to a hospital in South Mumbai for severe food poisoning, revealed her father Boney Kapoor in an interview with NDTV while she was busy promoting her soon-to-be-released film Ulajh. Sources in the know close to the actor told Hindustan Times that she was admitted on Thursday and may be discharged within the next two days after being down with a serious ailment that forced her to reschedule her dates much earlier in the week.

Her health is better now, Boney Kapoor told NDTV. The tragic incident had happened only a day after she had come to Mumbai from Chennai, being unwell.

Janhvi Kapoor has been juggling her personal and professional life; as recently as this past weekend, she was attending the wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant before taking off into promotional activities for “Ulajh.” In the film, she will be seen playing Suhana Bhatia, a young diplomat caught right in hornet’s nest, something about which the official affidavit states: high-stake international diplomacy ensnares a young diplomat into a complex mesh of intrigue. The movie is directed by Sudhanshu Saria and is based on the notion of nepotism with a thrilling story set around the London embassy.

The film’s trailer that’s been released just a few days ago reveals Janhvi’s character, who seems to be facing suspicion and danger along with grappling with internal renders of her fluids that her character’s colleagues believe can potentially spell disaster for the lives of undercover secret agents. Other actors opposite Janhvi Kapoor include Adil Hussain, Meiyang Chang, Gulshan Devaiah, Rajendra Gupta, and Jitendra Joshi.
“Ulajh” has been penned by Sudhanshu Saria and Parveez Shaikh, while the dialogues have been written by Atika Chauhan.

</excerpt>

Two more children have died due to suspected food poisoning at Indore’s Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra, bringing the death toll to five, authorities reported on Wednesday. The number of children being treated for food poisoning symptoms has risen to 38, with four in critical condition, according to district collector Asheesh Singh.

All the affected children are receiving treatment at Government Chacha Nehru Hospital, with four in the Intensive Care Unit. The latest fatalities were reported on Tuesday, following two deaths on July 1 and two on June 30.

Collector Asheesh Singh stated, “A total of 38 children are undergoing treatment, with four in the ICU. We will monitor the ashram closely for the next 48 hours and admit any child showing symptoms to the hospital. Samples collected from the site are being examined, and results are expected today. We hope to determine the cause of the incident soon.”

An investigation committee has been established to probe the matter. Singh added that an initial assessment suggested the first child who died on June 30 may not have succumbed to the infection, though the postmortem report is still awaited. State Ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Tulsi Silavat visited the children in the hospital on Tuesday night.

Vijayvargiya informed the media, “All the children in the ashram are mentally underdeveloped and handicapped. This ashram houses children from across Madhya Pradesh and is the only institution of its kind, doing commendable work. However, the cause of this incident is under investigation. Most of the children suffer from diarrhea, which is common in this season. Water and food samples have been collected.”

“The Chief Minister has sent me and Tulsi Silawat to oversee the situation. We have instructed the Collector and Commissioner to develop a comprehensive master plan for the institution to improve living standards and food quality, ensuring such incidents do not recur,” he added. The ashram, operated by an NGO, houses around 200 children with disabilities and orphans, aged between five and 15 years.

</excerpt>

While social media is abuzz with warnings about watermelon and muskmelon causing food poisoning due to dyes and artificial coloring, medical professionals offer a different perspective. Let’s explore the truth behind these claims and how to enjoy these refreshing summer fruits safely.

Dr. Komal Kulkarni, a general physician and content creator, sheds light on the matter. She identifies two primary factors contributing to potential food poisoning from these fruits. Firstly, the utilization of dyes and sugar syrups to augment their appearance and flavor. Secondly, the risk of contamination by harmful bacteria originating from the soil where they’re cultivated.

In a separate Instagram reel, health coach Miruna Bashkar shares her personal encounter with food poisoning following watermelon consumption. She highlights that adverse effects, such as those she experienced, can be triggered by toxic dyes like Erythrocine found in watermelons.

However, consultant dietician Kannika Malhotra clarifies that using dyes on watermelons is uncommon and illegal in most regulated markets. Their red color comes from lycopene, a beneficial antioxidant. While dyed watermelons are highly unlikely, these dyes, if present, could contain harmful chemicals leading to food poisoning and long-term health risks.

The bigger threat lies with bacteria commonly found in soil, where melons grow. It is a common hazard associated with watermelon and muskmelon due to soil contact during growth, posing additional risks. Malhotra underscores this vulnerability, listing common bacterial culprits such as Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria, which can cause severe illnesses ranging from food poisoning to serious infections, especially in vulnerable populations like pregnant women.

To mitigate these risks, it’s crucial to recognize that surface cleaning may not eradicate all bacteria. Malhotra emphasizes the importance of proper hygiene to minimize bacterial growth. Washing melons thoroughly with running water and a scrubbing brush is crucial. Additional precautions include sanitizing utensils and cutting boards, segregating melons from raw meat, refrigerating cut fruit promptly, and discarding any compromised specimens.

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy the delicious taste and refreshing properties of watermelon and muskmelon without worrying about food poisoning. The vibrant red color is a natural gift, and proper hygiene is the best defense against harmful bacteria.

</excerpt>

A 10-year-old girl named Manvi passed away from suspected food poisoning after consuming a cake on her birthday last week in Punjab. Her family, including her younger sister, also fell ill after eating the cake, which was ordered online from a bakery in Patiala, according to her grandfather. A video widely shared on social media showed Manvi celebrating with her family just hours before her tragic death.

The incident occurred on March 24, when Manvi cut the cake around 7 PM. By 10 PM that same night, the entire family had fallen sick, with the sisters experiencing vomiting shortly after consuming the cake. Manvi, in particular, complained of extreme thirst and dryness in her mouth before going to sleep, her grandfather Harban Lal mentioned.

The family took her to a hospital the next morning as her condition worsened. Despite receiving oxygen and undergoing an ECG, she could not be saved and was declared dead shortly after arrival, Harban Lal stated.

The family suspects that the chocolate cake from ‘Cake Kanha’ contained a poisonous substance. An FIR has been lodged against the bakery owner, and investigations are ongoing. “The postmortem has been conducted, and a sample from the cake has been sent for testing. We are awaiting the reports,” they stated.
