</excerpt>

In the world of banking and finance, security isn’t just a priority—it’s a necessity. With increasing threats and sophisticated cyber-attacks, financial institutions are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) and technology to stay ahead. Let’s explore how AI is transforming security operations and enhancing protection in this critical sector.

First off, let’s talk about automation and efficiency in security operations. Traditional security measures often involve time-consuming processes and manual oversight. This is where AI steps in to make a difference. By automating routine security tasks, AI helps banks and financial institutions manage security with greater precision and speed. For instance, AI-powered systems can handle tasks like monitoring transactions for suspicious activities or flagging potential security breaches. This automation not only reduces the workload for security teams but also ensures that potential threats are identified and addressed more quickly.

A great example of this technology in action is the use of AI-driven Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platforms. These platforms are designed to streamline security operations by integrating various security tools and processes. Instead of dealing with disparate systems, a SOAR platform uses AI to unify and automate responses to security incidents. This means that when a potential threat is detected, the platform can automatically take actions such as isolating affected systems or deploying countermeasures, often without requiring human intervention. This kind of automation enhances the efficiency of security operations and ensures a more coordinated response to threats.

Next, let’s delve into cyber threat intelligence and response. In today’s landscape, reactive measures are often too slow to be effective. That’s why proactive threat hunting has become essential. AI plays a significant role here by integrating threat intelligence and helping to anticipate and prepare for potential attacks before they occur. AI systems analyse vast amounts of data from various sources—such as network traffic, user behaviour, and global threat reports—to identify patterns and anomalies that might indicate an impending threat.

For example, AI can provide predictive insights by recognising patterns in historical data that suggest a new type of attack might be on the horizon. These insights allow security teams to adjust their strategies and defenses in advance, potentially stopping attacks before they even start. Additionally, AI can automate response solutions, meaning that when a threat is detected, the system can initiate predefined responses—like blocking malicious IP addresses or deploying updates—without needing manual input. This not only speeds up the response time but also reduces the risk of human error.

While the benefits of AI in banking and finance security are clear, it’s also important to address challenges such as algorithmic biases or integration issues with existing systems. Financial institutions must navigate these challenges to fully leverage AI’s potential. Additionally, the future of AI in security looks promising with emerging technologies like quantum computing, which could further revolutionise threat detection and response.

Overall, the combination of AI and technology in banking and finance is like having a high-tech security guard who never sleeps!

The financial struggles of today can make future planning seem daunting.
</excerpt>

“Try to save something while your salary is small; it’s impossible to save after you begin to earn more.” – Jack Benny

As someone in their 20s, we understand how challenging it can be to navigate an economy with high housing costs, rising grocery and medical bills, and various other expenses. The financial struggles of today can make future planning seem daunting.

The foremost reason to start putting your pennies back in the purse is obviously to ensure a comfortable and secure retirement. With inflation at 8.5% in July and an increasingly strained economy, it’s crucial to adopt effective budgeting strategies to secure a better future.

So, what can Gen Z and millennials do to save effectively during their 20s?:

Create a Budget

Having a budget is essential for managing expenses and avoiding overspending. Here are some budgeting methods to consider:

Zero-Based Budget: This approach allocates every penny of your income, aiming to end with zero balance. This doesn’t mean spending all your money but directing any leftover funds towards retirement savings, debt repayment, or long-term investments.

Pay Yourself First Budget: This method prioritizes savings by allocating a portion of your income to retirement funds, long-term savings, and debt repayment before addressing other expenses.

Envelope System Budget: This system involves setting aside specific amounts of cash for different expenses in labeled envelopes. For example, you might allocate a certain amount for groceries and keep it in a designated envelope, which helps track and manage spending.

50/30/20 Budget: This popular method divides your income into three categories: 50% for needs (like bills and rent), 30% for wants, and 20% for savings.

Build An Emergency Fund

An emergency fund is crucial for covering unexpected expenses, such as a broken appliance or car repairs. Invest in a high-interest savings account to grow this fund over time.

Increase Your Income

Consider earning extra money through freelancing, part-time work, or turning hobbies into income streams. Doing what you enjoy while making money can be both rewarding and financially beneficial.

Cut Unnecessary Expenses

Manage your spending by canceling unused subscriptions, limiting dining out, preparing homemade meals, and seeking better deals on groceries. Keeping a close eye on your budget can help you save significantly.

Stay Consistent

Consistency is key to successful saving. Develop a habit of regular saving and set specific goals to stay on track. The more disciplined you are, the faster your savings will grow.

By implementing these strategies, you can navigate the financial challenges of today and build a secure future.

Sitharaman also announced changes to customs duties on key raw materials:

Removal of basic customs duty on ferro nickel and blister copper.

Continued nil BCD on ferrous scrap and nickel cathode.

Concessional BCD of 2.5% on copper scrap.

Relief for the Middle Class

The biggest relief in Budget 2024 came for the middle class with the following changes:

Standard Deduction: Increased by 50% to ₹75,000.

Family Pension: Deduction for pensioners increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.

Conclusion

The 2024 Budget brought significant changes to import duties and provided relief to the middle class. These measures are expected to boost the domestic market and provide financial relief to a broad segment of the population.

</excerpt>

On July 20, 2024, a major tech problem happened when an update from CrowdStrike caused a flaw in their ‘Falcon Sensor’ software. This led to a big crash in Microsoft systems worldwide, causing many Windows PCs to show the ‘Blue Screen of Death.’ The outage affected many industries around the world.

Airports and Airlines

The aviation industry was heavily hit, with many flights delayed or canceled. In India, airlines like SpiceJet, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara, Air India, and Air India Express faced issues. Major airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai saw lots of delays and cancellations, leading to frustrated passengers.

Globally, airports in Berlin, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Budapest also had problems. In the US, American Airlines, Delta, and United Airlines had to stop flights temporarily. Qantas in Australia and Ryanair in Ireland also saw delays and cancellations. London Gatwick and Stansted airports had about 90% of their flights delayed or canceled.

Finance

The finance sector was also affected. Banks and financial firms like JP Morgan Chase & Co, Macquarie Capital, Barclays, and Bradesco faced problems. Australia’s Commonwealth Bank had issues with instant fund transfers, and South Africa’s Capitec Bank and Absa had similar disruptions. In Germany, Allianz insurance and other banks had trouble logging in. The London Stock Exchange Group’s platform also suffered.

Media and Broadcasting

Media outlets were disrupted too. Britain’s Sky News had to work with minimal services, and Australia’s ABC experienced a major network issue. Sky News Australia also had programming interruptions.

Healthcare and Emergency Services

Healthcare services in England, the Netherlands, and Germany were affected. However, emergency services in England were not impacted. In Denmark, the fire department had trouble accessing fire alarms, so people were asked to call emergency services directly. In Australia, Victoria state police had internal system issues, but emergency services continued normally. In the US, Mass General Brigham had to cancel some non-urgent medical procedures, and Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp had limited patient services.

Other Sectors

Other areas were hit as well. Maruti Suzuki, India’s biggest carmaker, had a brief halt in dispatch operations. The Paris Olympics organizing committee saw slower operations, but ticket sales were not affected. Manchester United had to delay its ticket release, and New Zealand’s parliamentary computer systems were affected. Starbucks also had problems with its mobile ordering and payment features.

In short, this global tech outage caused major disruptions across various industries, showing how connected and dependent we are on technology.

</excerpt>

As Budget 2024 approaches, taxpayers can look forward to several potential changes that could ease their financial burden. Here are six key income tax benefits expected to be announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23:

Standard Deduction
The standard deduction, which was first introduced at ₹40,000 in the 2018 budget and increased to ₹50,000 in the 2019 budget, is likely to see further adjustments. This deduction has remained unchanged since 2019.

Section 80C Exemption
Salaried individuals can currently reduce their taxable income by ₹1.5 lakh per fiscal year under Section 80C. This exemption has been unchanged since 2014, but a revision is anticipated in the upcoming budget.

Income Tax Exemption Limit
The Finance Minister may raise the income tax exemption threshold from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, especially for those filing under the new tax regime. This change could significantly benefit low-income taxpayers.

National Pension System (NPS)
Changes to the National Pension System are expected, including an increase in the additional income tax deduction limit under Section 80CCD 1B, offering more tax-saving opportunities for NPS contributors.

Tax Rate Reductions
Experts suggest the government might lower the top tax rate from 30% to 25% within the new tax regime. Additionally, the threshold for the highest tax rate under the old tax regime could be raised from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh, providing relief to higher-income taxpayers.

House Rent Allowance (HRA)
Increased House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemptions are expected, which would help mitigate the impact of rising rental costs, particularly in urban areas.

Stay tuned for more updates as the budget announcements unfold.

</excerpt>

Starting April 1, 2024, new KYC (Know Your Customer) rules for mutual fund investors have been implemented. Under these rules, investors must be “KYC Validated” to invest in any mutual fund scheme without additional paperwork. Those with “KYC Registered” or “KYC Verified” status can retain their current investments but need to submit documents again for new investments.

Understanding “KYC Validated” Status

“KYC Validated” status means that the KYC Registration Agency (KRA) can confirm an investor’s Proof of Address and Proof of Identity with official sources like the Income Tax Department database or Aadhaar. If an investor’s PAN and Aadhaar are linked or do not need to be linked, and their email and/or mobile are verified, they receive “KYC Validated” status. This status allows investors to invest in different mutual fund schemes without resubmitting KYC documents, as long as their information remains unchanged.

Type of OVD and KYC status

Type of OVD used: Aadhaar
KYC status till March 31, 2024: Validated
KYC status from April 1, 2024: KYC Validated – Where OVD data is validated with the issuing authority, i.e. UIDAI, PAN-Aadhaar linking done, and email and/or mobile is validated.

KYC status from April 1, 2024: On Hold

Impact of Unvalidated KYC

If an investor’s KYC is not validated, their status is marked as “KYC Registered.” In such cases, investors can still invest with other SEBI-registered intermediaries but need to provide KYC documents again, even if their information has not changed.

Significance of Aadhaar in KYC

Aadhaar is crucial for changing KYC status to “KYC Validated.” Without Aadhaar, KRAs cannot independently validate an investor’s information, which is necessary for obtaining “KYC Validated” status. Using Aadhaar for KYC simplifies the process and eliminates the need for multiple KYC modifications across different fund houses.

Investment Flexibility Based on KYC Status

Resident individuals with “KYC Verified” or “KYC Registered” status can continue investing in existing mutual funds. However, to invest in a different fund house for the first time, they must submit a KYC modification request along with their investment application. Investors with “KYC Validated” status can invest in any mutual fund without submitting additional KYC documents. Non-Resident Indian (NRI) investors must submit a KYC modification in all cases unless they have “KYC Validated” status.

</excerpt>

Invest India projects a promising outlook for India’s e-commerce landscape, forecasting a substantial surge to $325 billion by 2030, aligning with a digital economy set to reach $800 billion in the same period.

With India boasting the world’s second-largest internet user base of 881 million, the country is poised to become the third-largest online retail market by 2030. This growth is fueled by a rapidly expanding internet user base and a thriving digital economy.

The report envisions India leading the charge in online shopping, with an estimated 500 million shoppers by 2030. Factors contributing to this growth include soaring internet access, projected to reach 87% of Indian households by 2025, particularly driven by mobile internet usage, and a growing online shopper base across rural and urban areas.

Affordable data prices play a significant role, driving e-commerce adoption by making data plans accessible to more people. Other drivers include the increasing number of smartphone users, the dominance of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in digital transactions, and the availability of local language content.

Invest India highlights the shift towards rural-driven e-commerce, with substantial demand anticipated from tier 2-4 towns and rural areas by 2026, supported by government initiatives and the rise of quick commerce.

Overall, Invest India’s report paints a compelling vision of India emerging as a global e-commerce powerhouse by 2030, buoyed by a growing internet user base, affordable data access, and a robust digital infrastructure.

</excerpt>

As you navigate the exciting journey of your 20s, there’s no better time than the present to lay the groundwork for a secure and prosperous future. Here’s why your 20s are the ideal age to start saving and investing for long-term financial success.

1. Compound Interest Magic:
One of the most powerful financial tools at your disposal is compound interest, and the earlier you start saving, the more time your money has to grow. By harnessing the magic of compound interest in your 20s, you can maximize the growth potential of your savings and investments over time. Even small contributions made early on can snowball into significant wealth accumulation by the time you reach retirement age.

2. Long Time Horizon:
Your 20s offer a long time horizon for investing, allowing you to weather market fluctuations and capitalize on long-term growth opportunities. With several decades ahead of you before retirement, you can afford to take on more risk in your investment portfolio, potentially earning higher returns in the process. Starting early gives you the freedom to ride out market cycles and benefit from the power of time in the market.

3. Financial Flexibility:
Building a savings habit in your 20s provides you with financial flexibility and security as you navigate life’s uncertainties. Whether it’s unexpected expenses, job transitions, or pursuing new opportunities, having a financial cushion in place gives you peace of mind and the ability to weather financial storms with confidence. Additionally, establishing an emergency fund early on can help you avoid debt and financial hardship in times of need.

4. Establishing Good Habits:
Your 20s are a formative period where lifelong habits are developed, including those related to financial management. By cultivating a habit of saving and investing early in life, you set yourself up for long-term success and financial well-being. Learning to live within your means, budget effectively, and prioritize savings sets a solid foundation for future financial stability and prosperity.

5. Capitalizing on Lower Expenses:
You may have fewer financial obligations compared to later stages of life, such as mortgage payments, childcare expenses, or supporting aging parents. This relatively lower level of financial responsibility provides an opportunity to allocate a larger portion of your income towards savings and investments. By capitalizing on this stage of life with lower expenses, you can supercharge your savings rate and accelerate your path towards financial independence.

6. Retirement Readiness:
Planning for retirement may seem distant in your 20s, but taking proactive steps early on can make a significant difference in your financial security later in life. By starting to save for retirement in your 20s, you give yourself a head start in building a sizable nest egg that can support your desired lifestyle in retirement. Harnessing the power of compounding and long-term growth potential puts you on the fast track to retirement readiness.

</excerpt>

The 50-30-20 rule, also known as the budgeting rule, divides your after-tax income into three distinct categories: essentials, lifestyle choices, and savings/investments. It has gained popularity by helping numerous people by providing a blueprint as a means to manage finances.

1. 50% for Essentials:
The first pillar of the 50-30-20 rule allocates 50% of your income towards essentials—those expenses that are necessary for daily living and maintaining a stable lifestyle. This includes:

Housing costs (rent or mortgage payments)

Utilities

Groceries

Transportation

Insurance premiums

Minimum debt payments.

By ensuring that no more than half of your income goes towards these essential expenses, you create a solid foundation for financial security and stability.

2. 30% for Lifestyle Choices:
The second component of the 50-30-20 rule designates 30% of your income towards lifestyle choices—discretionary spending that enhances your quality of life and reflects your personal preferences and values. This category encompasses expenses such as,

Dining out

Entertainment

Travel

Hobbies

Shopping

Non-essential subscriptions or memberships

While it’s important to enjoy life and indulge in occasional luxuries, maintaining a balanced approach to discretionary spending is key to staying within budget and avoiding unnecessary debt.

3. 20% for Savings and Investments:
The final segment of the 50-30-20 rule emphasizes the importance of saving and investing for the future. Allocating 20% of your income towards savings and investments allows you to build a financial safety net, prepare for emergencies, and work towards long-term goals such as retirement, homeownership, education, or wealth accumulation. This category includes:

Contributions to retirement accounts (such as 401(k) or IRA)

Savings accounts

Investment portfolios

Debt repayment beyond the minimum requirements.

Prioritizing savings and investments ensures that you’re not only meeting your current needs but also laying the groundwork for a secure and prosperous future.

The 50-30-20 rule serves as a practical and effective guide for achieving financial wellness and success. By allocating income wisely to essentials, lifestyle choices, and savings/investments, you lay the groundwork for a secure and prosperous future while enjoying the present moment to the fullest. Embrace the principles of budgeting, discipline, and foresight embodied by the 50-30-20 rule, and watch as your financial dreams transform into reality.

</excerpt>

According to the latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s foreign exchange reserves witnessed a decline of USD 2.795 billion, reaching USD 616.143 billion for the week ending on January 19, 2023. The central bank’s weekly statistical data revealed that during the same period, the country’s foreign currency assets (FCA), the largest component of the forex reserves, decreased by USD 2.653 billion, settling at USD 545.855 billion. Gold reserves also experienced a decline of USD 34 million, reaching USD 47.212 billion.

In the calendar year 2023, the RBI augmented its foreign exchange reserves by approximately USD 58 billion. This contrasts with the cumulative decrease of USD 71 billion in India’s forex reserves in 2022. Forex reserves, or foreign exchange reserves (FX reserves), constitute assets held by a nation’s central bank or monetary authority. Typically denominated in reserve currencies such as the US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, and Pound Sterling, these reserves serve as a safeguard against external economic uncertainties.

In October 2021, India’s foreign exchange reserves achieved an all-time high of around USD 645 billion. The subsequent marginal decline in reserves, particularly in 2022, was influenced by factors such as the increased cost of imported goods. Additionally, the fluctuation in forex reserves could be linked to periodic interventions by the RBI in the market, aiming to curb the rupee’s depreciation against a strengthening US dollar.

The RBI’s interventions in the market involve liquidity management, including the sale of dollars, to prevent excessive depreciation of the rupee. The central bank, which closely monitors foreign exchange markets, engages in interventions to maintain orderly market conditions and curb excessive volatility in the exchange rate. Importantly, the RBI’s interventions are conducted without a predetermined target level or band, emphasizing the commitment to preserving market stability.

</excerpt>

Game-Fi, short for Game Finance, is an emerging concept that combines gaming and finance in a unique and innovative way. It brings together the immersive world of gaming and the principles of decentralized finance (DeFi) to create new opportunities and experiences for both gamers and investors.

The Fusion of Gaming and Decentralized Finance

Traditionally, players would spend hours immersed in virtual worlds, completing quests, and unlocking achievements in games. While these accomplishments provided personal satisfaction, they often had little to no tangible value outside of the game.

On the other hand, the world of decentralized finance has enabled the creation of cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, and various other financial tools that allow for secure and transparent transactions without relying on intermediaries.

Game-Fi aims to bridge the gap between these two seemingly unrelated domains by introducing blockchain technology and tokenization into gaming. By leveraging the power of blockchain, gaming assets can be transformed into digital tokens that hold real-world value. These tokens, known as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), bring unique properties and ownership to in-game items, characters, and other virtual assets.

The Benefits for Gamers

One of the key advantages of Game-Fi is the ability for players to truly own their in-game assets. Unlike in traditional gaming, where assets are owned and controlled by the game developers, NFTs allow players to have full ownership and control over their virtual items. This ownership opens up possibilities for players to trade, sell, or even lend their assets to others, introducing a whole new dimension to the gaming experience.

Moreover, Game-Fi presents an opportunity for gamers to earn real-world income through their gameplay. By participating in decentralized gaming platforms, players can earn tokens or cryptocurrencies that hold tangible financial value. This incentivizes players to not only enjoy the gaming experience but also engage in the financial aspects of the ecosystem. Additionally, some Game-Fi platforms allow players to stake their tokens or participate in liquidity farming to earn passive income.

The Opportunities for Investors

On the investor side, Game-Fi presents an exhilarating avenue to generate potentially lucrative returns. As the popularity and adoption of Game-Fi continue to grow, the demand for NFTs and gaming assets is expected to increase, potentially driving up their value. This presents an enticing opportunity for investors looking to capitalize on the convergence of gaming and finance.

Investors can participate in Game-Fi by acquiring and holding gaming assets or by investing in Game-Fi projects through avenues like Initial Game Offerings (IGOs) or token sales. By acquiring gaming assets, investors can benefit from their potential appreciation in value as the gaming ecosystem expands and more players seek these assets. Additionally, by investing in Game-Fi projects, investors can gain exposure to the broader ecosystem and potentially reap significant returns if the projects succeed.

Necessary Caution for Investors

However, it is important to approach Game-Fi investments with caution and awareness of the risks involved. The volatility inherent in cryptocurrency markets can make Game-Fi investments particularly unpredictable. Prices of NFTs and gaming assets can experience significant fluctuations, which may result in both substantial gains and losses for investors. The nascent nature of Game-Fi projects adds an additional layer of risk, as not all projects may achieve their intended objectives or withstand the competitive landscape.

To mitigate these risks, both gamers and investors need to conduct thorough research before engaging with Game-Fi projects. Understanding the underlying technology, such as blockchain and smart contracts, is essential to grasp the potential long-term viability of a Game-Fi project. Assessing the credibility and security measures of the projects is equally crucial to minimize the chances of falling victim to scams or engaging with untrustworthy platforms.

Conclusion

For gamers, Game-Fi offers a revolutionary opportunity to truly own and monetize their in-game assets. No longer do players have to accept that their hard-earned virtual items hold no value outside of the gaming world. With NFTs and blockchain technology, gamers can now trade, sell, or even loan their valuable assets, unlocking new possibilities and empowering players in the virtual realm.

On the investor side, Game-Fi opens up a whole new landscape of investment opportunities. As the demand for NFTs and gaming assets continues to surge, early investors in Game-Fi projects stand a chance to reap significant financial rewards. However, it is important for investors to exercise caution and thoroughly research the projects they choose to invest in, as the nascent nature of the Game-Fi sector brings inherent risks.

It’s worth acknowledging that Game-Fi is not without its challenges. The volatility of the cryptocurrency market and the nascent stage of Game-Fi projects add an element of risk that investors and gamers alike must consider. Like any emerging field, there will be successes and failures. It is crucial to approach Game-Fi ventures with due diligence and a discerning eye.

</excerpt>

In its monthly review report, the Ministry of Finance noted that recent bank failures in the US and Europe, which were brought on by the cycle of tightening monetary policy — primarily as a result of interest rate increases — raised concerns among policymakers about the fragility of financial systems, particularly in emerging market economies (EMEs).

The collapse of a few regional banks in the US, which started with Silicon Valley Bank, and the takeover of the crisis-hit Credit Suisse Bank by the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) have sent ripples across the global banking industry and posed fears of a contagion effect across economies, the finance ministry said. The review report put on Tuesday categorically stated that India’s banking system is considerably less prone to such incidents.

“A discussion of what caused the collapses overseas is beyond our remit but we will confne to restating the factors that make the Indian banking system considerably less prone to such developments in the near-to-medium term future,” the report said.
One of the most prominent lenders in the world of technology startups, Silicon Valley Bank, which was struggling, collapsed on March 10, after a run on the bank by the depositors. Its closure led to a contagion effect and subsequent shutting down of other banks.

Banking supervision in India is robust with the RBI’s coverage of institutions, regardless of asset size and macro stress tests are also performed from time to time on individual banks, the finance ministry said.

Also, the finance ministry said the rapid withdrawal of deposits is unlikely as 63 per cent of the deposits the households contributed are considered “sticky”.
“Further, as more than 60 per cent of deposits are held by public sector banks, depositors in India are reassured about the safety of their savings,” the finance ministry report added.

Further, the Ministry of Finance said that recent incidents that happened in the US and Europe-based banks are bound to happen in a rapid monetary policy tightening cycle. It noted that an analysis of the Indian banking system reveals that Indian banks appear well-placed to handle any stress emanating from the current tightening cycle.
Indian banks don’t hold a majority of their assets in the form of bonds. Instead, for the top ten banks in terms of asset size, loans constitute more than 50 per cent of their total assets, making banks more immune to the rising interest rate cycle.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India, in its first monetary policy review meeting in 2023-24 earlier held this month, decided to keep the key benchmark interest rate — the repo rate — unchanged at 6.5 per cent, to assess the effects of the policy rate tightening done so far on various macroeconomic parameters.

Barring the recent pause, RBI has so far raised the repo rate, the rate at which it lends to banks, by 250 basis points cumulatively since May 2022 in the fight against inflation. In the US, the interest rate is currently at 4.75.5.00 per cent, which was near zero during the initial days of the pandemic.Raising interest rates is a monetary policy instrument that typically helps suppress demand in the economy, thereby helping the inflation rate decline and vice versa.In India, headline consumer price index-based (CPI) inflation (or retail inflation) has gradually declined from its peak of 7.8 per cent in April 2022 to 5.7 per cent in March 2023.

</excerpt>

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the global economy will grow by less than 3% in 2023, with India and China accounting for half of global growth that year.

Global growth will remain around 3% over the next five years, the lowest medium-term growth forecast since 1990 and well below the previous two-decade average of 3.8%. Asia, as per the report.

“Some momentum comes from emerging economies–Asia especially is a bright spot. India and China are expected to account for half of the global growth in 2023,” IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said on Thursday (local time).The economic slowdown has continued this year as several economists and agencies earlier forecast degrowth in various advanced economies.

“Despite surprisingly resilient labour markets and consumer spending in most advanced economies, and the uplift from China’s reopening, we expect the world economy to grow less than 3 per cent in 2023,” the IMF chief said.IMF will next week release its World Economic Outlook.She further said economic activity is slowing in the US and the Eurozone because of the current higher interest rates regime, thereby weighing on the demand.

“About 90 per cent of advanced economies are projected to see a decline in their growth rate this year,” she predicted.
“For low-income countries, higher borrowing costs come at a time of weakening demand for their exports. And we see their per-capita income growth staying below that of emerging economies. That is a severe blow, making it even harder for low-income nations to catch up.”

Against that backdrop, she stressed upon three priorities to brighten global growth prospects. They are to fight against inflation and safeguard financial stability; improve medium-term growth prospects, and reduce global disparities.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave his remarks on terrorism on Friday. He said that terrorism is the most serious threat to global peace and security and that “protecting a terrorist is equivalent to promoting terrorism”.

Shah chaired the first session of the third ‘No Money for terror’ Ministerial Conference on the ‘Global Trends in Terrorist Financing and Terrorism’ theme. He gave these remarks while he was addressing the meeting. He said, “Terrorism is, undoubtedly, the most serious threat to global peace and security, but, the financing of terrorism is more dangerous than terrorism itself because the ‘Means and Methods’ of terrorism are nurtured from such funding”.

“Furthermore, the financing of terrorism weakens the economy of countries of the world,” he said.

According to Shah, India rejects terrorism in all of its manifestations and believes that no justification can be offered for acts like the murder of innocent people.

The Home Minister said that while he felt bad for the victims of terrorist atrocities around the world, we should never make concessions to this evil.

According to the Union Home Minister, India has been a victim of sponsored terrorism for a number of decades.

According to him, extremely serious terrorist acts of violence that were committed over an extended period of time and with coordination have forced Indian security personnel and people to deal with them.

The international society agrees that all manifestations of terrorism must be denounced, but according to Shah, terrorism’s manifestations and forms are constantly changing as a result of the technology revolution.

The Home Minister added that terrorists and terrorist organisations are quite adept at using contemporary weapons, information technology, and financial and cyberspace dynamics.

He claimed that the “Dynamite to Metaverse” and “AK-47 to Virtual Assets” transition of terrorism is unquestionably a cause for concern for all nations, and that we must all come up with a coordinated plan of action to combat it.

The threat of terrorism cannot and should not be connected to any particular nation, religion, or group, Shah continued.

The six pillars of India’s policy against the financing of terrorism were identified by the home minister.

“First – Strengthening the Legislative and Technological Framework, second – Creation of a Comprehensive Monitoring Framework, third – Actionable intelligence sharing mechanism and strengthening of the investigation and police operations, fourth – Provision for confiscation of property, fifth – Prevent misuse of legal entities and new technologies and sixth – Establishing international cooperation and coordination,” he said.

Shah highlighted the role of the amendment of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the nation’s fight against terrorism and it’s financing.

“India has strengthened the fight against terrorism and its financing, with the amendment of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, strengthening the NIA, and giving a new direction to financial intelligence. It is the result of our continuous efforts that terrorist incidents in India have come down drastically. This has also resulted in a drastic reduction in the economic losses caused by terrorism,” he said.
