NIA Nabs Duo Behind Illegal ‘Dunki’ Route Trafficking to America

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two main individuals suspected of being involved in human trafficking to the United States through the notorious ‘dunki’ route, officials reported on Saturday.

According to them, these arrests followed raids at separate locations in Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

Identified as Sunny alias Sunny Donker from Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, and Shubham Sandhal alias Deep Hundi from Ropar, Punjab who had been living in Peeragarhi, Outer Delhi, the two were arrested on Friday, the NIA said in its release.

The investigating agency characterized both of them as close friends of Gagandeep Singh alias Goldy, who had been arrested in March.

Gagandeep’s arrest came after a victim, who was smuggled into the US via the dunki route and later deported back to India in February, filed a complaint.

The word ‘dunki’, thought to be derived from ‘donkey’, refers to illegal and treacherous paths that migrants use to enter nations such as the United States without proper papers.

The agency reported that this hazardous and tiresome journey is usually organized by human trafficking rings. “Their victims were physically and mentally harassed during the journey by the donkers and agents intent on making extra money,” it added.

The NIA described Shubham Sandhal as an important hawala courier, who assisted in routing money to donkers in Latin America.

The agency further stated that Gagandeep depended on him to remit shares of the money taken from the victims to these donkers deployed in Latin American nations.

Taking over the investigation from Punjab Police on March 13, 2025, the NIA is still investigating the case, the statement further said.

Earlier, the NIA had charged a chargesheet against Gagandeep Singh, a Tilak Nagar resident in Delhi, on June 27.

Their investigation found that Gagandeep took around Rs. 45 lakh from every visitor, promising to send them to the US on valid visas.

Instead, he sent them on a harrowing journey through multiple countries, including Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico, the agency said.

Gagandeep had illegally sent more than 100 people to the US before being arrested, the NIA said.

Sunny, who was the main associate or ‘donker’ of Gagandeep’s operation, was heavily involved in arranging these illegal voyages, the agency added.

For the movie to keep a steady pace at the box office, it needed to at least match its opening day total of Rs 29 cr, if not surpass it.

On Friday, the makers of the upcoming Pan-India action thriller film ‘Salaar’ starring Prabhas announced the new release date of their film.

‘Salaar’ will now be hitting the theatres on December 22, 2023, and will be facing a big box office clash with superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘Dunki’.

Taking to Instagram, production house Hombale Films shared a new poster of ‘Salaar’ which they captioned, “Coming bloody soon! #SalaarCeaseFire Worldwide Release On Dec 22, 2023.”

In the intriguing poster, the ‘Baahubali’ actor can be seen with blood on his body.

Helmed by Prashant Neel, the film also stars Shruti Haasan and Prithviraj Sukumarn in the lead roles.

Earlier, the makers of ‘Salaar’ unveiled the teaser of their film which received massive responses from the fans.

Now the film will be facing a big clash with SRK’s ‘Dunki’.

SRK recently confirmed the release date of ‘Dunki’ at the success event of ‘Jawan’. He said, “We started on January 26, Republic Day (with Pathaan), then on Janmashtami we released ‘Jawan’, now New Year and Christmas are round the corner, we will release ‘Dunki’. I keep National integration. Anyway, when my film is released, it is Eid.”

Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. ‘Dunki’ marks the first collaboration of the ‘Chak De India’ actor with ‘3 Idiots’ fame director Hirani and ‘Pink’ actor Taapsee.

Reportedly, the film is about a Punjabi boy who immigrates to Canada. The theme of this movie is immigration across borders. Dunki will be released in theatres on December 22, 2023. King Khan’s darling wife Gauri Khan is also associated with the production. It also marks King Khan’s first association with Rajkumar Hirani and Taapsee Pannu.

Apart from this, King Khan has Jawan in his kitty.

On the personal front, King Khan married Gauri Khan in 1991. The power couple is parents to Aryan, 25, who launched a lifestyle luxury collective brand last year. Their darling daughter Suhana Khan will soon make her acting debut with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies. A report in News18.com revealed that King Khan is flying to Kashmir to film a song for his upcoming film Dunki. Shah Rukh Khan wraps Saudi Arabia schedule of ‘Dunki’

King Khan Shah Rukh Khan has finished the Saudi Arabia scheduled shooting of his upcoming movie ‘Dunki’.

Taking to Instagram SRK dropped a video announcing the schedule wrap on Wednesday.

“There’s nothing more satisfying than completing a shooting schedule as is with Dunki here in Saudi,” SRK wrote.

Meanwhile, SRK expressed his gratitude towards the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture in the clip and also thanked the film’s team.

Moreover, SRK also thanked director Rajkumar Hirani and the entire cast and crew members who are involved in making it a successful project.

“So I want to thank Raju sir and the rest of the cast for making it look so lovely. Special thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Films here in Saudi for giving us such spectacular locations, amazing arrangements, and the warm hospitality. So, a very big Shukran (Thank you) to all. On to the red sea festival,” SRK said in the clip.

However, talking about SRK’s upcoming project he will be seen in the movie ‘Pathaan’ which will be an action-packed film. The movie is scheduled to release on 25 January 2023. Besides Shah Rukh Khan the movie also stars John Abraham and Deepika Padukone.

Shah Rukh Khan stopped by customs officials; pays Rs 6.83 lakh penalty

Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan landed into trouble with the airport authorities when he was returning from the United Arab Emirates to Mumbai on Saturday.

According to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) sources, at the Mumbai airport actor, Shah Rukh Khan was stopped as Khan was carrying expensive watches worth Rs 18 lakh.

Meanwhile, as a penalty actor was made to pay Rs 6.83 lakh for custom duty. The ‘Pathaan’ actor was traveling in a private chartered plane as he made his quick appearance at an event in Sharjah.

Talking about his upcoming movies SRK talked at an event in Sharjah about being nervous before his movie release and said, “I don’t think I need to be nervous, they are all going to be super-hit films.”

Moreover, the statement sound ‘arrogant’ but the actor explained, “That’s the belief I sleep with, I wake up with and that’s the belief that makes the 57-year-old me do stunts, and work 18 hours a day. If I did not have that belief that I am making a product that lots of people are going to like then I won’t be able to do it. So. it’s not an arrogant statement, this is what I like to believe. It’s a child-like belief that ‘look, I have prepared my best, I have done my best I am going to pass with flying colors.”

However, King Khan will return to the big screen with three movies in 2023 they are Siddharth Anand’s ‘Pathaan’, Atlee’s ‘Jawan’, and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’.
