In a separate case, ex-attendant Charlotte Lee was caught with 46 kg of cannabis in Sri Lanka and is facing court proceedings for alleged drug smuggling.
</excerpt>

A British Airways flight steward was arrested after being found dancing nude in a business class lavatory on a flight from San Francisco to London Heathrow last Sunday.

The absence of the crew member at meal service caused concern mid-flight, and co-workers searched for him across the plane. Their search was in shock when they discovered him totally naked dancing in the lavatory. According to The Sun, the crew was shocked by his unstable behavior at 37,000 feet.

One of his co-workers supposed he might have been on drugs: “We believe the guy did pills when he was supposed to be at work. It is an amazing thing to do. The plane was flying at 37,000ft above the Atlantic, but this fellow was higher than anybody else.”

Other crew members promptly dressed him in a spare set of First Class pyjamas and transferred him to the First Class cabin, where he stayed for the remainder of the ten-and-a-half hour flight.

Upon arrival, he was given medical treatment, wheeled off the plane, and arrested by airport officials. British Airways has since grounded the flight attendant pending an internal investigation.

Another Controversy

The naked episode followed closely on the heels of a recent controversy over a former flight attendant. Charlotte May Lee, 21, from Coulsdon, south London, appeared before a Colombo court last Friday, accused of attempting to smuggle cannabis into Sri Lanka.

Lee was arrested at Bandaranaike Airport on May 11 on her return from Bangkok. Officials claimed to have recovered 46 kg of ‘Kush,’ a highly concentrated variety of synthetic cannabis in her bag, estimated value £1.2 million.

She was visibly distressed in court, dressed in a white gown, with her hands cuffed as police escorted her to a prison van. Throughout the hearing, she was said to be disoriented and had trouble understanding what was going on, as it was being conducted in Sinhalese.

Sri Lankan authorities took the seized drugs to court as part of their continuing investigation. Lee, a TUI Airways ex-staffer, is to appear in court again in two weeks.

</excerpt>

Over three million children globally have been estimated to have died in 2022 from antibiotic-resistant infections, according to a research conducted by two senior experts on child health, Africans and children from South East Asia were among the most vulnerable groups.

Antimicrobial resistance also referred to as AMR occurs when the microbes that infect us adapt so that antibiotic medicines are no longer effective.

It has been recognized as one of the largest public health challenges to the world’s population, a new research now shows the cost that AMR is exacting on children.

Research Findings

Drawing on data from a variety of sources, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank, the authors of the report have estimated there were over three million deaths among children in 2022 caused by drug-resistant infections.

The experts say the new research shows a greater than tenfold rise in AMR-related infections among children over only three years.

The figure might have been exacerbated by the effect of the Covid pandemic.

Increased Antibiotic Usage

Antibiotics are prescribed to cure or stop a massive spectrum of infections caused by bacteria – from skin infections to pneumonia.

They are also occasionally prescribed as a precaution to prevent, but not treat, an infection – for instance if a person is undergoing surgery or undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

Antibiotics do not affect viral infections, however conditions like the common cold, flu, or Covid.

But certain bacteria have now developed resistance to some medications, as a result of their overuse and misuse, while the development of new antibiotics a long and expensive process has slowed right down.

Surge in Prescription of Critical Antibiotics

The lead authors of the report, Doctor Yanhong Jessika Hu of Australia’s Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and Professor Herb Harwell of the Clinton Health Access Initiative, identify a sharp increase in the prescription of antibiotics intended to be reserved only for the most severe infections.

In 2019-2021 consumption of “watch antibiotics” with high resistance potential grew by 160% in South East Asia and 126% in Africa.

In the same time frame, “reserve antibiotics”drugs reserved as final treatments for extreme, multi-resistant infections grew by 45% in South East Asia and 125% in Africa.

Fading Choices for Treatment

The authors caution that if bacteria become resistant to these antibiotics, few, if any, alternatives will be available for the treatment of multidrug-resistant infections.

Prof Harwell is reporting the results at the Congress of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Vienna later this month.

AMR is a global problem. It affects everyone. We did this work really to focus on the disproportionate way in which AMR affects children,” he said ahead of the event.

“We estimate three million deaths of children worldwide associated with antimicrobial resistance.”

Is There a Solution to AMR?

The WHO describes AMR as one of the most serious global health threats we face, but speaking from Vienna, Prof Harwell warns that there are no easy answers.

“It’s a multi-faceted problem that extends into all aspects of medicine and really, human life,” he said.

“Antibiotics are ubiquitous around us, they end up in our food and the environment and so coming up with a single solution is not easy.”

The best way to avoid a resistant infection is to avoid infection altogether, which means higher levels of immunisation, water sanitation, and hygiene are needed, he adds.

“There’s going to be more antibiotics use because there’s more people who need them, but we need to make sure that they are used appropriately and the correct medicines are used.”

Wake-Up Call for Global Health Leaders

Dr. Lindsey Edwards, a senior lecturer in microbiology at King’s College London, said the new study “marks a significant and alarming increase compared to previous data”.

“These findings should serve as a wake-up call for global health leaders. Without decisive action, AMR could undermine decades of progress in child health, particularly in the world’s most vulnerable regions.”

Authorities uncovered a sophisticated drug concealment system in his truck.
</excerpt>

A 61-year-old man from Co Waterford, Ireland, has been denied bail after being charged with possession of €10.6 million worth of cocaine. Michael Murphy, a transport manager at Herriot Haulage Limited, was arrested as part of an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Irish authorities.

Massive Drug Seizure Uncovered

Detective Garda Sean Lane of Waterford Garda Station informed the court that Murphy was apprehended on March 18 following a targeted investigation. Initially, a search of his vehicle did not reveal any contraband. However, when the truck and trailer were taken to Dublin Port for further inspection, an X-ray scan revealed an anomaly within the refrigerated unit.

A subsequent deep search, aided by the stolen motor vehicle investigation unit and the dog unit, uncovered a sophisticated hydraulic concealment system. Authorities discovered 152 kg of cocaine, verified by Science Foundation Ireland, along with mobile phones, tools, bags, and GPS tracking devices—some of which were located near the hidden compartment.

Investigators suspect the cocaine was transported from Spain to Ireland on behalf of multiple organized crime groups.

Advanced Counter-Surveillance Equipment Discovered

During additional searches, authorities found a high-tech portable signal jammer, commonly used for counter-surveillance purposes. The device, described as a military-grade tool, was reportedly used to aid criminal operations, making it highly unusual for an ordinary civilian to possess.

Court Proceedings and Bail Refusal

Murphy appeared before a special sitting of Gorey District Court wearing a black hooded fleece, black pants, and brown shoes. He was formally charged with possession of cocaine and possession with intent to sell or supply. In response to the charges, he stated, “I understand the charge.”

His solicitor, Chris Hogan, argued for bail, emphasizing Murphy’s strong ties to Ireland. Hogan stated that his client, a widower with five children, was a businessman with local employees and ongoing business ventures.

However, Detective Garda Lane opposed bail, citing Murphy’s potential international connections. Despite Hogan’s argument that his client posed no flight risk, Judge Kevin Staunton ruled against bail due to the severity of the charges and the significant quantity of drugs seized.

Murphy has been remanded in custody and will appear via video link at Waterford District Court on Tuesday. He retains the right to appeal the bail decision.

</excerpt>

Abhay Singh, popularly known as “IIT Baba,” was briefly detained in Jaipur after police discovered a small amount of marijuana in his possession at a hostel in the Riddhi Siddhi area. The incident has sparked mixed reactions, highlighting the clash between traditional spiritual practices and modern drug laws.

Incident Details

Local police received a complaint about a disturbance at the hostel and promptly arrived at the scene. During their investigation, officers found a minor quantity of ganja (marijuana) on Singh. A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, since the amount recovered fell within the legally permissible limit for personal use, Singh was released shortly after his detention.

IIT Baba’s Defense

Following his release, Singh addressed the media with a characteristic mix of defiance and humor. “Mostly every baba consumes weed as a prasad. Would they arrest all of them?” he questioned, defending his actions as part of his spiritual customs as an Aghori baba. He further added that it was his birthday and he simply wanted to celebrate in his own way, downplaying the seriousness of the situation.

Who is IIT Baba?

Abhay Singh, better known as IIT Baba, is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and a former aerospace engineer who left a promising career to pursue a life of spirituality. His transformation from academia to asceticism first garnered widespread attention during the Maha Kumbh Mela, when a viral interview showcased his unconventional lifestyle and personal journey. Singh has openly discussed how strained family ties and the dismissal of his passion for photography contributed to his spiritual quest, making him a polarizing yet intriguing figure in contemporary India.

Public Reaction and Legal Perspectives

The incident has ignited a debate on social media, with some netizens sympathizing with Singh’s cultural and spiritual practices, while others question the appropriateness of his actions under current drug laws. Legal experts note that although the NDPS Act is stringent, the small volume of ganja involved does not warrant a harsh legal response. The case serves as a reminder of the complexities at the intersection of traditional customs and modern legal frameworks in India.

Trying to outsmart police, he sought refuge inside a chimney and became wedged, authorities reported.

The incident occurred when the Fall River Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence over suspected drug possession and sales. When officers arrived, the house’s occupants attempted to flee.

“During the application of said search warrant, two males fled from the residence via rooftop. One male eluded capture by bounding from the roof and onto a parked vehicle,” the police detailed in their report.

The other perpetrator, however took a more merry route that proved unlucky. After being inspired by Santa Claus, he attempted hiding in the chimney to avoid his arrest. Though at first, the plan seemed to work, it didn’t take long to turn against him as he found himself stuck there. Forcing him to give up the escape, he shouted for rescue, which meant ironic enough, the rescuers were the very officers he wanted to evade.

Emergency responders, including the local fire department and medical services, were called to rescue Langlais from his unusual predicament. After being freed, he was taken to a hospital as a precaution and was later medically cleared. “Because of his Santa-antics, Langlais was transported to a local hospital out of precaution and was medically cleared,” the police quipped.

On a serious note, the authorities charged Langlais with possession of drugs and multiple outstanding warrants. Another person present at the scene, Tanisha Ibay, 32, was also arrested without incident and charged with possession of Class A and Class B drugs, police said.

He said that he had never thought that the speech would be taken literally or passed on beyond the company. Carter in an interview with Herald Sun said that if he knew the speech was going to cause such a huge reaction, he would have expressed his comments differently.

What’s going on with Zomato in Chandigarh? ?

Fake ‘restaurants’ offering just ONE dish at absurd prices, with nonexistent addresses. Something really shady is cooking on @zomato @DgpChdPolice

Anyone else noticed this? ? #Zomato #Chandigarh #ZomatoGate pic.twitter.com/wbBvCrqsPV

The listed items, with names like “Naughty Strawberry,” “Blue Adventure,” and “Citrus Punch,” intrigued users, leading some to suggest they might be covers for illicit activities like drug delivery or money laundering. “Came across some odd listings on Zomato in Chandigarh—so-called ‘restaurants’ that only offer a single dish, priced absurdly high. It’s got me wondering: could these be fronts for money laundering or some other shady business?” read a post on the Reddit.

Suspicious “one-dish” restaurants on Zomato (Chandigarh)

The original poster (OP) decided to investigate further by attempting to order from one of the restaurants. However, their order was automatically canceled, and the restaurant was marked as closed shortly after. “I tried placing an order, but it got automatically cancelled after some time, and the restaurant is now showing as closed,” the OP explained.

The post quickly gained traction, drawing several theories in the comments. One user suggested, “Those look like flavours of juice that you put into your vapes. Pricing also looks consistent.” Another shared a similar observation, stating, “True. I know of an exact such operation in another city that essentially sells vape pens/cartridges. The price is almost the same, Rs 1000–Rs 1200 per item.”

Adding to the mystery, a commenter speculated, “Could it be a way to deliver drugs? With prices this high, only a ‘few’ people will order. And those few will already know what it contains, i.e., drugs. Just a thought.”

Interestingly, one user noted that all the flagged outlets were listed under the same location, Nayagaon, which raised further suspicions about their legitimacy.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, criticized the Congress party, alleging its involvement with a major drug syndicate linked to the former chairman of the RTI Cell of Delhi Pradesh Congress. He accused Congress of trying to “push the youth towards drugs and use that money to contest and win elections.”

Modi referred to a recent probe into an international drug racket, which revealed that the mastermind behind a Rs 5,600 crore cocaine haul allegedly had connections to Congress, as reported by the Delhi police. While addressing a gathering in Washim, Maharashtra, the Prime Minister remarked, “Drugs worth thousands of crores have been recovered in Delhi. The main accused in this drug racket is a Congress leader. Congress wants to push the youth towards drugs and use that money to contest and win elections. We need to stay aware of this.”

He further criticized the Congress party, accusing it of being influenced by “urban-naxalites” and stated, “They think that if we all unite, then their agenda to divide the country will fail. Everyone can see how closely Congress stands with people who don’t harbor good intentions for India.”

During the inauguration of the Banjara Museum, Modi launched a strong attack on Congress, asserting that its ideology is disconnected from minority communities and that it has always shown a dismissive attitude toward the Banjara community. He said, “Congress’s thinking has been foreign from the very beginning. Like the British rule, this Congress family also does not consider Dalits, backward and tribals as their equals. They feel that India should be ruled by only one family. That is why they have always maintained a derogatory attitude towards the Banjara community.”

Highlighting the achievements of the BJP, PM Modi shared, “In the holy time of Navratri, I have just got the opportunity to release the 18th installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. More than Rs 20 thousand crore have been transferred today into the accounts of 9.5 crore farmers of the country.”

He also emphasized the added support for farmers in Maharashtra, crediting the “double engine government” for delivering benefits to the state’s agricultural sector. “The double engine government of Maharashtra is providing double benefit to the farmers of Maharashtra. Under the Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi Yojana, more than 90 lakh farmers of Maharashtra have been given about 1900 crore rupees,” Modi added.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when Manjubai, 24, reportedly mixed a substance into the food she prepared for her in-laws. After consuming the meal, the family members, including a six-year-old child, lost consciousness.

Relatives discovered the unconscious family members and rushed them to the district hospital, where they are now recovering and reported to be out of danger.

Dablana Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahendra Yadav stated that Durgashankar Gurjar, 24, had married Manjubai on August 23 through a custom known as ‘Nata-Pratha.’ This practice, prevalent in some communities, involves a form of informal marriage without legal validity.

Following the incident, Manjubai reportedly escaped on a motorcycle parked at the residence. It is currently unclear whether she took any cash or valuables from the house, as the family members remain in a semi-conscious state and are undergoing treatment.

A case has been filed, and the police are actively investigating the situation and searching for Manjubai.

#boycottbollywood you may have seen this hashtag trending a lot recently on social media platforms. Be it Pathaan or Laal Singh Chadda there have been “Boycott Bollywood “ calls all over the India. Suniel Shetty has sought the help of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Aditynath to curb this problem. He proclaimed “yeh ruk bhi sakta hai aapke kehne se” .

CM Yogi Adityanath in his 2 days visit to Mayanagri Mumbai met met many Bollywood personalities like Akshay Kumar, Boney Kapoor, etc. and discussed about The Film City Project of UP . But the thing that grabbed everyone’s attention was Suniel Shetty seeking CM’s help. Suniel Shetty underlined that it is vital to get the message out about Bollywood accomplishing great work, and furthermore encouraged CM Yogi Adityanath to assist with sorting out a method for halting the blacklist patterns.

He was cited saying, ” The hashtag that is going on, Blacklist Bollywood, yeh ruk bhi sakta hai aapke kehne se (it can stop assuming you say). It is critical to get the message out that we are accomplishing great work. One spoiled apple is all over, however in view of that you can’t call the entire business spoiled. Today individuals imagine that Bollywood is certainly not a decent spot, however we have made such great movies here. I was a piece of one such film as well, when I lined. I have been a piece of many great movies. We need to meet up and pursue how we can dispose of the Boycott Bollywood hashtag. We need to figure how we can stop this pattern.”

Hum din bhar drugs nahi lete, hum galat kaam nahi karte .Hum achhe kaam se jude hai” he said while addressing the issues of stereotypes and stigma associated with industry. He assured Bollywood is equally contributing to developing and connecting people as he had been part of various revolutionary films. Let’s see how CM will address this problem.

Suniel Shetty was last seen in MX Player’s crime thriller web series Dharavi Bank in his first OTT appearance. He is set to return to screen with Airport and Hera Phera 3.

Prior to the truck being stopped by the police in Assam’s Karimganj district, the truck’s driver and cleaner were able to escape the scene.

At the Kempegowda international airport in Bengaluru, customs officers arrested a passenger on Friday for allegedly travelling with drugs. The suspect came from Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, and more research is being done.

The accused was allegedly carrying 1926 grammes of “heroin” concealed within layers of a carton box that was transported as check-in luggage, according to the customs agents.

Under the authority of the 1985 Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), drugs were seized.

A post on the official Twitter handle of Bengaluru Customs read, “Based on credible information received, customs officers intercepted a pax flying from Addis Ababa to Bengaluru. A total of 1926 grams of ‘Heroin’ was recovered and seized under NDPS Act, 1985.” The accused was produced before the NDPS magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody.

The Bengaluru Cops arrested a Nigerian drug dealer earlier this month on suspicion of engaging in narcotics distribution in the city’s Hennur district. Cops also found drugs on the defendants that were worth Rs. 20 lakhs, including 230 grammes of MDMA crystals, and they all were seized.

The Bengaluru Cops arrested eleven persons for allegedly selling drugs throughout the city in October as well. There were reportedly Rs 1 crore worth of drugs seized. Five of the 11 suspects were foreign nationals who were busted in Bengaluru while dealing drugs like MDMA and marijuana.

Operation Narcos, a campaign by the Karnataka Police to completely reduce drug use in the state, was unveiled. To apprehend the drug dealers in the state, special operations are also being carried out as part of “operation Narcos.”

In Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi area on Friday, three people were reportedly detained and heroin worth Rs 14 crore seized from their possession.

The group was detained by police early in the morning as they were taking a bus from Manipur to Shillong, according to the police.

Two kilogrammes of heroin concealed in 158 soap boxes were found when the bus on a highway near the Mandarin-Saiden village was examined. Three residents of the Bishnupur region of Manipur, Rashijuddin, Saddam Hussain, and Iqbal Hussain, were detained.

DGP L R Bishnoi and the police force were praised by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for the successful seizure.

158 boxes of high-grade heroin worth Rs 14 crore that came from Manipur and were headed to Shillong were seized by Ri-Bhoi police after they diligently pursued a tip-off and detained three notorious traffickers from Manipur, said CM Sangma on Twitter.

“I hope this ignites the performance of cops on the frontlines, even more,” he added.

Chinese mafia groups are frequently using Myanmar as a base for their illegal operations, endangering India’s internal security and particularly the northeastern states of the country.

An aspect of the issue, like the expanding drug trade, which is unquestionably connected to the financing of terrorists, is quite comparable to India’s struggles on the western front.

The drugs seized and recovered from such smugglers were destroyed between January and September 2022 by the NCB Guwahati (11,000 kg), state agencies in Assam (8,000 kg), Tripura (12,000 kg), Arunachal Pradesh (4,000 kg), Meghalaya (1,600 kg), Manipur (1,900 kg), Mizoram (1,500 kg), and Nagaland (398 kg).

Gold, drugs, firearms, and other illegal goods entering India over the porous border in the past had an impact on north-east India. Meghalaya and Assam served as conduits for the transportation of some of the loot, primarily drugs, to Bangladesh.

Aftab Amin Poonawalla, the recently detained suspect in the horrifying Shraddha Walker murder case, reportedly admitted to using marijuana on the day of the murder, according to police sources.

According to Delhi police sources, the accused admitted to the police that he and Shraddha argued on May 18 about managing household costs and bringing some items from Mumbai to Delhi. According to the police, Aftab left his house after the argument, smoked a marijuana cigarette, and then came back.

“When he came back, Shraddha started yelling at him again. Following which, he got furious and strangled her so violently that she stopped breathing,” the police sources said.

“The victim was strangled to death between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and the accused, Aftab, sat next to her body the whole night and smoked marijuana,” they said.

According to reports, the accused has admitted to having a marijuana addiction and said he dumped some body parts in Dehradun as well.

However, the official stated that the police are looking into the issue from all angles and suggested that the accused may have released this information to trick the authorities.

The accused’s cutting tool has not yet been discovered by the police. According to the sources, the items that were recovered from the house have been sent for forensic analysis.

On Thursday, after five days of custody, the accused, Aftab Amin Poonawala, was brought before a Delhi court via video conference.
