</excerpt>

There are heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a string of missile and drone attacks by Pakistan against Indian military bases and civilian targets. As per Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the Pakistani military “used drones, long-range weapons, loitering munitions and fighter jets to attack India’s military sites…”

She said that India neutralized most threats, but Pakistan tried infiltration through air at over 26 points, causing damage to infrastructure and personnel at Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda air bases.

Colonel Qureshi also reported that the missiles were fired at high speeds at 1:40 am, specifically to target Punjab’s air base, along with hitting schools and health facilities. Adding to the gravity of the matter, she reported that Pakistan still utilized civilian air traffic as a shield throughout these operations.

India Gives Blunt Diplomatic Retort

In reaction to the attack, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated that Pakistan’s actions amounted to evident provocations and escalations. “I have said on numerous earlier occasions, it is Pakistani actions that have constituted provocations and escalations. In response, India has defended and reacted in a responsible and measured fashion to these provocations and escalations by the Pakistani side. Earlier this morning, we saw a repeat of this escalatory and provocative pattern,” Misri said in a special press briefing.

#WATCH | #OperationSindoor | Debunking claims of Pakistani propaganda, India shows time-stamped images of Indian air bases undamaged. pic.twitter.com/kioq065NbY

He also deplored the ongoing use by Pakistan of civilian flights as a cover, describing it as a “nefarious activity” that endangers innocent lives. Despite the calculated hostility, Misri reiterated that India is committed to calibrated and measured responses, without diluting national security.

India Exposes Pakistani Misinformation

Alongside its armed aggression, Pakistan has also started an online disinformation campaign with false assertions of the successful destruction of strategic Indian targets like the S-400 system and Surat and Sirsa airfields. India quickly countered these claims by showing time-stamped satellite photos confirming that the targeted Indian air bases are intact.

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh emphasized India’s reaction, “In a swift and calibrated response, Indian armed forces carried out a precision strike only at identified military targets… Pakistan has also attempted to execute a continued malicious misinformation campaign, with claims of destruction of the Indian S-400 system, destruction of airfields at Surat and Sirsa… India unequivocally rejects these false claims being spread by Pakistan.”

The Pahalgam Terror Attack and Escalation

This sensational escalation came after the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 civilians after reportedly forcing them to read scriptures to determine Muslims from non-Muslims. As a retaliatory measure, India conducted Operation Sindoor, a surgical strike on May 7 targeting nine terrorist training camps in Pakistan and PoK, including one in Punjab, Pakistan, India’s deepest penetration since the 1971 war.

In the wake of Indian attacks, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos, with a series of offensive air and missile raids in the name of defense, while still taking advantage of civil aviation corridors for military purposes.

Indian forces intercept multiple drone strikes, ensuring security.
</excerpt>

Indian troops bring down a massive fleet of enemy drones over Pokhran in Rajasthan late Thursday evening, countering two consecutive drone attacks within 32 minutes. The failed attempts come amid the ongoing escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Witnesses in surrounding villages recall hearing a loud buzzing sound followed by an explosion as interceptor systems spring into action. The Indian Air Force (IAF) spots several drones in the air above the border town and swiftly deploys its air defence systems. Authorities authenticate that Indian forces intercept any of the drones from entering strategic zones, shooting all of them down.

Indian Defence Systems Act Quickly

The IAF and ground defence troops engage the threat in real-time using kinetic missiles and electronic jamming technology. S-400 Triumf missile defence system and other radar platforms help intercept the drones before they can harm anything.

Latest drone attack by Pakistan in pokaran. Indian defence shot them down… pic.twitter.com/x6LteRy4xQ

— Mr Sinha (@MrSinha_) May 9, 2025

The defence experts opine that Pakistan deployed the drones to either collect sensitive intel or strike Indian military infrastructure. Investigators have retrieved wreckage and begun a forensic investigation. Preliminary evidence indicates the drones look like Turkish-origin Asisguard Songar models the same models Indian troops have previously detected on their border during cross-border drone incursions.

Pokhran Attack by Pakistan Follows Broader Aggression

This. event is another spike in what. seems to be a calculated Pakistani attempt to destabilise border regions. A day earlier, Pakistan undertook drone and missile attacks against Jammu and Pathankot, all of which Indian air defenses shot down.

The attacks come hot on the heels of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead, including one Nepali citizen. In retaliation, Indian security forces conduct Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist infrastructure locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Indian defence authorities explain that the attacks are pinpoint and non-escalatory and stay away from any Pakistani defence facility.

Government Keeps Situation Under Close Watch

The Indian government has made no official statement regarding the Pokhran attacks. But senior defence and intelligence officials are watching the situation closely. Security personnel are still on the alert across all western and northern borders, with forward posts keeping up increased surveillance and vigilance protocols.

India is still maintaining that it will not accept cross-border terrorism and that it is committed to neutralising threats to national security.

Around 70 drones were destroyed. The Indian Army confirmed multiple ceasefire violations and assured that all hostile acts would be answered with firm military action.
</excerpt>

In the wake of increasing tensions with Pakistan, Indian defence authorities presented a video crediting the success of intercepting almost all Pakistan drones launched on Thursday. If not eliminated, these unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) would have wreaked havoc upon civilian and military infrastructure in India.

The Pakistani Army launched an estimated 500 drones against Indian facilities, according to reports at 24 locations stretching from the Siachen base camp in Ladakh to the Kutch area in Gujarat.

Of these, about 50 drones were destroyed with air defence guns and another 20 were disabled by soft-kill techniques. Most of the UAVs were unarmed and carried cameras for surveillance purposes, presumably relaying live imagery to ground-based control centres.

The Indian Army verified that the armed forces of Pakistan launched coordinated assaults with drones and other ordnance along the western frontier late on May 8–9. These attacks were “effectively repulsed,” a statement by an official published on Friday reported.

Furthermore, Pakistani soldiers also broke the ceasefire on several occasions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, a post on X by the Indian Army said.

The report stated: “OPERATION SINDOOR – Pakistan Armed Forces conducted repeated attacks with drones and other ordnance along the entire Western Border on intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also indulged in multiple ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The Army also confirmed a robust reaction to both the drone incursions and ceasefire violations:
“Drone strikes were ‘effectively repulsed’ and a ‘befitting response’ issued against ceasefire breaches.”

It underlined India’s preparation for war:
“#IndianArmy remains committed to the defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious schemes shall be met with force.”

Local authorities acted swiftly, and the Indian Air Force secured the area. Rajasthan’s CM called a high-level emergency meeting.
</excerpt>

A suspected, bomb-like device was found on Friday morning in the Kishanghat area of Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, just a few hours after Pakistan conducted drone and missile strikes along India’s western frontier, a PTI report said.

The Indian Air Force acted quickly after a local resident reported the object. The region was sealed immediately, and army bomb disposal experts were called in to examine and defuse the suspected bomb.

Initial reports from the local police indicate that the object seems to be a component of a drone supposedly fired by Pakistan on Thursday evening at about 10:30 pm. An official confirmation, however, is awaited. “It is not yet known whether it is live or destroyed,” Kotwali SHO Prem Daan informed PTI.

Local resident Arjun Nath found the item close to a nursery in the Jogis’ colony, opposite Kishanghat in the kotwali police station’s jurisdiction. He informed Kalyan Ram, a member of the region’s sarpanch, who approached the authorities in turn.

Pakistan Targets Indian Cities

In a retaliatory attack on Thursday night, Pakistan launched a new series of missile and drone strikes that targeted to strike Indian army camps in Pathankot, Jammu, and Udhampur. The attacks were after India carried out precision bombings against terror outfits in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan last month as part of ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Indian troops successfully repelled the attacks, which were aimed at a number of strategic points in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The defence ministry states that, “The Pakistani military on Thursday night tried to target Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj.”

Operation Sindoor: India’s Retaliation

India’s missile attacks on Wednesday were a direct reaction to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left people dead. India’s military struck nine terror hubs across PoK and Pakistan in a high-accuracy operation that proved its strategic prowess and determination.

As temperatures rose along the western frontier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma summoned a high-level meeting to assess the situation and enhance the state’s readiness, ANI said.

As part of emergency steps, the state government suspended leaves for the entire staff deployed in the border regions and redeployed administrative officials to fill any vacancies in the sensitive sectors.

</excerpt>

Drone attacks have struck a major power plant in the Sudanese city of Port Sudan resulting in a “complete power outage”, the nation’s electricity company stated.

Explosions and Fires Near Airport

Explosions and massive fires have been reported close to the city’s main international airport as a paramilitary force attacked the strategic city for the third day in a row.

Flights have been suspended after drones attacked the international airport and a hotel close to the current presidential palace, reports indicate.

Witnesses Describe the Devastating Scenes

“I can see a large cloud of fire and smoke moving like everywhere around the city. and I have just heard now that there were like two big bangs. It is really apocalyptic-looking,” a reporter, Cristina Karrer, said on a programme.

Black smoke hung over the horizon at sunrise over the once-safe city where tens of thousands of refugees from the two-year conflict have arrived.

Power and Essential Services Disrupted in Sudan

On Tuesday, Sudan’s electricity company indicated that it was evaluating the damage on its substation, which has interfered with the supply of water, health, and other services.

One of the drones hit the civilian part of the Port Sudan airport and another hit the central army base in the middle of the city, witnesses informed AFP news agency.

A third drone hit “a fuel depot close to the southern port” in the highly populated city center, where UN officials, diplomats, aid agencies, and Sudan’s army have moved from the capital Khartoum, AFP reported.

Hotel Targeted in Attack

A large hotel near the home of army head Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan was also targeted in the assault, the witness added.

Mariam Atta, a children’s hospital nutritional supervisor in Port Sudan, explained the moment she heard the attacks.

“We woke up to the roar of explosions and were terrified. We had never witnessed an attack before, but we saw the smoke rising, the fire – it was overwhelming.”

When asked whether she feared the attacks might happen again, she said: “Yes, we are afraid, and it’s very likely to happen again. The fear is constant. As long as there’s an intention to target Port Sudan and vital areas, and to intimidate civilians, these attacks will continue.”

UN Halts Aid Flights Temporarily

After the drone strikes, the UN has halted temporarily aid flights to Port Sudan, but normal aid activities remain, stated Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson of the UN.

“None of our offices, facilities or warehouses have been affected, and we are still conducting our usual activities,” Mr Haq further added.

On Tuesday, the government of Sudan spokesman Khaled Al-Aiser stated that the military was defending the damaged fuel depots “to the extent possible,” adding that the “will of the Sudanese people will remain unbreakable.”

The army has accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of the drone attacks which began on Sunday. The RSF has yet to issue a comment on the attacks.

In a statement, the African Union cautioned that the attack on Port Sudan was “a dangerous escalation” of the Sudanese civil war and “a direct threat to the lives of civilians, humanitarian access, and regional stability.”

Port Sudan Considered Safe Before Attacks

Before the Sunday attacks, Port Sudan had escaped bombardment and was considered one of the safest locations in the war-torn country.

The paramilitary organization has increasingly used drones to retake its lost territories, such as Khartoum that was recaptured by the army in March.

The two years of conflict between the army and the RSF have claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions, and caused the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Both the army and RSF are accused of war crimes.

The assault damaged apartment blocks and key buildings, sparking strong condemnation from Ukrainian President Zelensky.
</excerpt>

In the early hours of 2025, Russia carried out an aerial attack on central Kyiv. This marked a rare strike on the Ukrainian capital. The attack claimed two lives, injured six, and left four people trapped under rubble, according to Ukraine’s state emergency services. Local authorities said the damage resulted from falling debris, which indicated successful interception of the drones.

This attack came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised in his New Year’s speech to do everything in his power to end the war in the coming year. In a Telegram post, Zelensky denounced the attack, saying, *\”Even on New Year’s night, Russia only cares about hurting Ukraine.\”*

The targeted Pechersky district houses the presidential palace and offices of the government. The attacks damaged apartment houses and a structure of the central bank. There were several powerful explosions during the strike, reported AFP reporters in the area.

According to the Ukrainian air force, overnight Russia fired 111 drones, and Ukraine intercepted or neutralized 109 of them. The two countries have increased aerial bombardments in the past few months as they both try to gain an upper hand before US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated in January.

Putin had recently warned of potential strikes on Kyiv in retaliation for Ukraine’s use of US-supplied weapons on Russian territory. Meanwhile, the assertions by Trump of being able to broker peace swiftly have sent Kyiv scurrying as fears grow there of a settlement that might work too much to Moscow’s favor.

The strike took place in Kazan, a major city located approximately 500 miles east of Moscow. It is reported that explosive-packed drones crashed into at least three high-rise buildings that resulted in a huge fireball. No casualties are reported yet, but widespread panic ensued from the attack.

According to Russia state media, including TASS, eight drone strikes had been documented, with six that targeted residential buildings. Authorities on the ground said local emergency services responded rapidly and fire brigades were working to bring out the flames. Thick black smoke billowed from buildings captured in Telegram videos following the dramatic aftermath.

After the drone attack, Kazan’s airport suspended all flights until further notice, and Rosaviatsia, Russia’s aviation authority, issued restrictions on air traffic. Restrictions were also imposed on the city of Izhevsk, which is close to Kazan, for precautionary measures.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has said that at least one drone was intercepted by air defenses before it could hit its target. However, the attack’s nature raises concerns over the growing threat of UAV warfare on civilian infrastructure. Experts consider this a major escalation in using drones for offensive operations.

While Ukrainian forces have not taken formal responsibility, reports circulating on Telegram indicate that the drones were launched from Ukrainian soil. Earlier on Friday, a Ukrainian missile attack hit Rylsk in Russia’s Kursk region, killing six people and injuring ten others, with one of the victims a child. Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein said the casualties were confirmed as the cross-border attacks grow in intensity.

The overnight assault targeted a residential building in the town of Hlukhiv, near the Russian border, resulting in 12 injuries, including two children.

Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating, “Every new Russian strike only confirms Putin’s true intentions. He wants the war to continue and is not interested in peace talks.”

Search and Rescue Operations Underway

In a video shared by Zelenskyy, emergency workers are seen sifting through the rubble of the partially destroyed building in the aftermath of the attack. Rescue operations continued into the morning as local authorities confirmed that Russian forces had used two drones in the assault. The military administration of Sumy region reported the casualties and the damage via Telegram.

Drone Attacks Escalate in Sumy Region

Ukraine’s air force reported that 51 out of 87 drones launched by Russian forces overnight were intercepted, though 30 others went untracked. This attack adds to a series of escalating drone strikes in Sumy, which have targeted both critical and civilian infrastructure.

Earlier this week, a missile strike in the same region killed 11 people, injured 89, and left parts of the city of Sumy without power. Russian forces have repeatedly pummeled Sumy in recent months, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Zelenskyy’s statement underscored Ukraine’s resilience in the face of continued aggression, as authorities continue to call for international support to counter the Russian onslaught.

Following a series of drone attacks over the past two days in Imphal West district, which resulted in two fatalities and several injuries, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has labeled the incidents as “acts of terrorism.” Singh strongly condemned the attacks and vowed decisive action against such acts of violence.

Attacks and Casualties

On Sunday, armed Kuki groups used drone attacks on Koutruk, a Meitei village in Imphal West district, resulting in the deaths of two people, including a woman, and several injuries. The village is situated near the border with the Kuki-Zomi majority Kangpokpi district. This area has been heavily impacted by ongoing conflict, experiencing frequent gunfire incidents.

The violence continued on Monday when drones were again used to drop bombs in Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai, also in Imphal West, injuring three civilians.

Chief Minister’s Response

In response to these attacks, Chief Minister Singh took to social media to denounce the violence. “Dropping of bombs on civilian population and security forces by using drones is an act of terrorism and I condemn such cowardly acts in the strongest terms,” Singh stated. He emphasized the Manipur state government’s commitment to addressing such threats and vowed to take necessary measures to combat these forms of terrorism.

Singh also called for unity among the people of Manipur, asserting, “We denounce all forms of violence, and the people of Manipur shall unite together against hate, division, and separatism.”

Investigation and Next Steps

The Chief Minister confirmed that the case would be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation. This decision reflects the seriousness of the situation and the need for a comprehensive response to the escalating conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities.

Ongoing Tensions

The recent drone attacks come amidst heightened tensions between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi groups. The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the security situation in the region, with both communities facing increased hostility and violence.

Manipur authorities are working to address the violence and restore peace in the affected areas, with heightened scrutiny and intervention from national agencies to prevent further escalation.

Eyewitness Sunil Ningthoujam, a local resident and general secretary of the village peace committee, recounted the horror of the attack. He reported seeing two drones flying over the village shortly before bombs were dropped, and noted that some houses were still burning as a result.

The attack occurred around 2 p.m. near Koutruk in the Kangchup region of Imphal West district. During the assault, militants used drones to drop grenades and opened fire, engaging in a gunfight with security personnel that continued into the evening. The deceased was identified as Ngangbam Ongbi Surbala, who was visiting her maternal home with her 11-year-old daughter, who sustained a gunshot wound to her right arm. Other injured individuals included a local journalist, two police officers, and several villagers.

The incident followed protest rallies by Kuki-Zo groups against Chief Minister N Biren Singh in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts the previous day.

The Manipur police have attributed the attack to Kuki militants, describing it as a “significant escalation” involving drone-dropped explosives, a tactic typically seen in general warfare. The police indicated that this sophisticated method of attack suggests the involvement of highly trained individuals with technical expertise. They are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared for any further developments.

In response, the Manipur home department condemned the attack, labeling it an “unfortunate” act of terror against unarmed villagers. The department expressed its serious concern, stating that such violence undermines efforts to restore peace in the state. It also pledged immediate action to address the situation and hold those responsible accountable.

</excerpt>

Ukraine has intensified its drone campaign with a night-time attack on a Kremlin military airfield near Volgograd and the capture of a village in Russia’s Kursk region. The attack on the Marinovka airbase, about 45 miles west of Volgograd, occurred around 3am and involved a series of explosions. The airbase, housing approximately 30 Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets, has been a target due to its role in bombing Ukrainian positions. The extent of damage to the jets remains unclear.

This operation is part of Ukraine’s broader strategy of targeting key Russian infrastructure, with over 200 targets hit recently, including oil depots and airbases. Last week, Ukraine struck airbases Borisoglebsk and Savasleyka, and earlier this week, it attacked Moscow and the Arctic Murmansk region. Despite Russian claims of downing all hostile drones, Ukraine’s persistent attacks indicate a significant escalation in its offensive.

In addition to the airbase attack, Ukraine has claimed control over the village of Krasno-Oktyabrskoye in the Kursk region, with ongoing battles reported. This move aims to alleviate pressure on Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, where Russian forces have been advancing toward key Ukrainian military hubs like Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Russian troops are reported to be within 7 miles of Pokrovsk and 3 miles from Myrnohrad, causing evacuations and a tense atmosphere.

On Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited the Sumy region, highlighting the reduction in shelling and civilian casualties due to the Ukrainian-controlled buffer zone. Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of attempting to strike the Kursk nuclear power station, although no evidence has been provided. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed finding drone fragments near the facility and plans a visit next week.

The Kremlin has also targeted journalists, issuing arrest warrants for CNN reporters, including Nick Paton-Walsh, who were in the Russian town of Sudzha. This follows recent tensions over American journalists’ presence in Russia. Putin’s administration has downplayed the invasion’s impact, with over 122,000 Russians fleeing the Kursk region. Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Zelenskiy, criticized the Kremlin for ignoring the deteriorating situation and presenting the conflict as a new normal.

</excerpt>

Ukraine has executed one of its most significant drone attacks on Moscow, marking a notable escalation in the conflict. Russia’s defence ministry reported intercepting 11 kamikaze drones before they reached the capital. Several drones were shot down over Podolsk, a city near Domodedovo International Airport, with residents hearing buzzing and loud explosions.

In total, Russia claimed to have destroyed 45 drones over its territory, including 23 in the Bryansk region, six in Belgorod, two above Kursk, and three over Kaluga. The city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, described the attack as one of the largest ever attempted on Moscow using drones.

Ukraine’s Expanding Drone Program

In response to the ongoing conflict and restrictions on western weapons, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for allies to lift limitations on using advanced weapons like the UK’s Storm Shadow missiles. These missiles are currently restricted to areas up to Russia’s borders, due to concerns about escalating nuclear tensions. Zelenskyy argues that these restrictions are outdated as the conflict deepens into Russian territory.

Ukraine has developed a more ambitious drone program, targeting critical infrastructure sites linked to military logistics. Recent attacks include a major oil depot in Proletarsk, which continues to burn days after being struck by drones.

Russian and Ukrainian Frontline Developments

In the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces have been advancing with probing raids on towns and villages. They have reportedly seized the town of Sudzha and are nearing Korenovo. The Ukrainian strategy includes using US-supplied Himars rockets to attack key infrastructure like pontoon crossings. Recent video evidence showed these rockets being used effectively in the Kursk region.

Russian forces have scrambled to counter Ukrainian advances, reinforcing positions and transferring units from other areas. Despite this, Ukrainian troops have reportedly repelled over 40 Russian attacks in Pokrovsk, with casualties reported on both sides.

Impact on Civilian Populations

The ongoing conflict has severely affected civilian populations. In Myrnohrad, near the frontlines in Donetsk, authorities urge civilians to evacuate due to intense shelling and deteriorating living conditions. Approximately 16,000 residents remain, with some hiding their children to avoid compulsory evacuation.

In the eastern Donbas region, Russian forces continue their aggressive tactics, including air strikes and infantry assaults. Ukrainian forces report heavy casualties on both sides, with ongoing battles causing significant suffering for civilians caught in the crossfire.

International Reactions and Strategic Developments

The international community remains concerned about the escalating conflict. US and European allies are carefully monitoring the situation, balancing support for Ukraine with the need to avoid further escalation. The conflict’s ongoing developments and the use of advanced weaponry continue to shape the strategic landscape in the region.

</excerpt>

A devastating drone attack targeting Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar claimed the lives of dozens, including families with children, on Monday. Survivors described a harrowing scene of bodies scattered across the ground as they searched for their injured and deceased relatives. The attack, which occurred near the Myanmar-Bangladesh border, is reported to be the deadliest assault on civilians in Rakhine state amid recent escalations in fighting between junta forces and rebel groups.

Tragic Losses Among Families

Among the victims were a heavily pregnant woman and her 2-year-old daughter, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the violence. Witnesses, including 35-year-old Mohammed Eleyas, recounted the horror of the attack. Eleyas, who lost his wife and daughter, described hearing the deafening sound of shelling as drones targeted the crowds. Another survivor, Shamsuddin, escaped with his wife and newborn son but witnessed the aftermath of the tragedy, with many dead and injured lying on the ground.

Conflicting Accusations and Uncertain Responsibility

The attack has sparked conflicting accusations between Myanmar’s military and the Arakan Army, with each side blaming the other for the deadly strike. While three witnesses pointed to the Arakan Army as responsible, the militia has denied these allegations. Reuters was unable to independently verify the exact number of casualties or determine responsibility for the attack. Videos circulating on social media showed the aftermath, with bodies and belongings scattered across muddy ground.

International Condemnation and Calls for Action

The international community has condemned the attacks, with activist groups and diplomats calling for accountability. Bob Rae, Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations and a former special envoy to Myanmar, confirmed the reports of the killings, describing the situation as “accurate.” Myanmar’s junta accused the Arakan Army of the attack, while the militia denied involvement, claiming the junta targeted Muslims who were attempting to flee without permission.

The ongoing violence has forced thousands of Rohingya to flee their homes, with many attempting dangerous crossings into Bangladesh. The United Nations and aid organizations have raised concerns over the escalating violence and its impact on civilians, particularly in the volatile Rakhine state.

</excerpt>

Russia launched one of the largest drone attacks on Ukraine, primarily targeting the Kyiv region. According to Ukrainian military officials, all 89 drones were shot down during the overnight assault, which lasted more than seven hours and came in two waves. This marks the largest attack on Kyiv so far this year and the seventh such attack this month. No residential or critical infrastructure was hit, and there were no casualties in the Kyiv region. However, 13 houses were damaged, and one fire was caused by the downed drones.

No Casualties but Significant Damage

Kyiv officials reported that the majority of the drone debris fell outside settlements, preventing any significant damage to residential or critical infrastructure. Dramatic footage from the Ukrainian Air Force showed a drone on fire falling from the sky, landing in a field with no visible damage. Despite the intensity of the attack, the effective response from Ukrainian air defense systems ensured that not a single drone reached its target.

Continued Attacks in Other Regions

While Kyiv was spared any casualties, other regions in Ukraine were not as fortunate. In the Mykolaiv region, Ukraine shot down an X-59 guided missile launched from occupied Kherson. However, separate attacks on eastern and southern Ukraine resulted in at least two deaths. In Kherson, a 68-year-old man was killed in a drone strike, and a 73-year-old woman was injured. In the Donetsk region, one resident of Toretsk was killed, and four others were injured in various attacks.

Ukraine Calls for More Air Defense Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated the need for more air defense systems from allies, stating that Ukraine could fully protect its skies with sufficient supplies. The Biden administration responded by announcing a new aid package for Ukraine, totaling about $1.7 billion and consisting of missiles and ammunition for missile, artillery, and air defense systems. Zelensky emphasized the importance of courageous decisions from international partners to provide the necessary support for Ukraine to defend against Russian strikes effectively.

</excerpt>

Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility on Friday for a deadly drone explosion in Tel Aviv, marking the Iranian proxy group’s latest attack in response to Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. The blast, which occurred in a central district housing several diplomatic missions, including a branch office of the US Embassy, resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man and injured at least ten others, according to Israeli emergency officials and police.

Houthi spokesperson Yahya Sare’e described the incident as a “significant military operation,” carried out using a new drone model capable of evading enemy interception systems. “We will continue to strike these targets in response to the enemy’s massacres and daily crimes against our brothers in the Gaza Strip,” Sare’e stated. “Our operations will only cease when the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”

An Israeli military official acknowledged that the drone, armed with a warhead, was detected by Israel’s aerial defense system but was not intercepted due to “human error.” The drone subsequently crashed into an apartment building. The military is investigating the incident but does not currently believe there are imminent further threats. The official did not confirm whether the drone was definitively launched by the Houthis.

Initial inquiries indicated that no sirens were activated during the incident. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have increased air patrols. The explosion took place approximately 100 meters (330 feet) from the US Embassy branch office compound, according to a CNN analysis of satellite imagery. The US State Department reported no damage to the diplomatic mission and no injuries among US personnel or local staff.

“We are in close contact with Israeli authorities to fully investigate the source of the explosion and its intended target,” a US State Department spokesperson said, adding that the embassy in Jerusalem and the branch in Tel Aviv are ready to provide consular assistance to US citizens.

Emergency crews responded to the explosion on Shalom Aleichem Street, where the deceased man suffered penetrating injuries, as reported by Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service. At least four of the injured sustained shrapnel wounds. Israeli police have urged local residents to avoid touching any rocket remnants due to potential explosives.

Following the incident, large police forces arrived at the scene to secure the area and search for additional threats. The Israeli Police spokesperson’s unit stated, “We urge the public to avoid the area while we conduct our operations and ensure safety.”

</excerpt>

The Houthis of Yemen claimed that they launched a drone strike against the MSC Orion container ship in the Indian Ocean as part of their continuous campaign against foreign shipping in support of the Palestinian people’s resistance to Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

Portugal-registered Zodiac Maritime is the registered owner of MSC Orion, which was sailing between the ports of Sines, Portugal, and Salalah, Oman, according to LSEG data.

Eyal Ofer, an Israeli businessman, owns a portion of Zodiac. A request for comment was not immediately answered by the corporation.

Since November, Houthi militants aligned with Iran have repeatedly launched drone and missile strikes in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden. This has forced shippers to reroute cargo to more expensive and time-consuming routes around Southern Africa and heightened concerns that the war between Israel and Hamas could break out and destabilise the Middle East.

The leader of the organisation stated in March that the group was enlarging its strike zone in order to stop ships connected to Israel from sailing through the Indian Ocean and towards the Cape of Good Hope.

According to its spokesman, in a videotaped speech early on Tuesday, the Iran-affiliated group also targeted two U.S. destroyers in the Red Sea and the Cyclades commercial vessel.

A container ship flying the flag of Malta claimed to have been hit by three missiles on Monday while travelling from Djibouti to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, according to a report earlier this week from the British maritime security company Ambrey. The Cyclades, according to the Houthis, was travelling that path when they struck the ship.

In an advisory note, Ambrey determined that the ship was targeted because of its listed operator’s continued trading with Israel.

Following the Houthi attacks on warships, the United States and Britain retaliated with strikes against Houthi sites.

</excerpt>

The merchant vessel en-route to India, which faced a drone attack, is currently being escorted back to Indian waters by the Coast Guard ship Vikram in the Arabian Sea, as per officials’ statements on Sunday. Following a suspected drone strike on the ship, it requested an escort from the ICGS Vikram, and both are anticipated to reach the Mumbai coast on Monday.

In response to the incident, Indian Coast Guard Dorniers are airborne for monitoring merchant vessels and conducting surveillance in the area, according to officials. A Pentagon spokesperson informed Reuters earlier today that the motor vessel, CHEM PLUTO, a Liberia-flagged, Japanese-owned, and Netherlands-operated chemical tanker, was hit around 10 am local time (6 am GMT) in the Indian Ocean, 200 nautical miles from the Indian coast, by a one-way attack drone launched from Iran.

The Indian Navy has initiated an investigation into the origin of the drone used in the attack, examining whether it was launched from a long range or a nearby vessel. This event adds to the escalating regional tensions following the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. The Pentagon has labeled this the “seventh Iranian attack on commercial shipping since 2021.”

MV Chem Pluto, carrying 20 Indian and one Vietnamese crew member, caught fire on Saturday after the suspected drone attack. The Indian Coast Guard secured the vessel, as stated in their official statement. Departing from the UAE on December 19, the merchant vessel was bound for New Mangalore port with an expected arrival on December 25.

On December 23, the Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai received information about the fire on MV Chem Pluto, believed to be caused by a suspected drone strike or aerial platform. Real-time communication with the vessel’s agent confirmed no loss of life, and assistance was assured. The crew had successfully extinguished the fire. To enhance the vessel’s safety, MRCC Mumbai activated the ISN and diverted nearby merchant vessels for assistance.

The Indian Coast Guard deployed the Offshore Patrol vessel Vikram and Coast Guard Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft to aid Chem Pluto. After sanitizing the area and establishing communication with the vessel, the Coast Guard Dornier aircraft confirmed that Chem Pluto is making its way to Mumbai after conducting damage assessment and repairs on its power generation systems.

</excerpt>

According to reports, Russian forces launched a drone attack and destroyed a port on the Danube River in Ukraine’s southern Odesa area overnight, quoting a Ukrainian official.

According to Oleh Kiper, the chief of the Odesa regional military administration, “the main target is port and grain infrastructure in the south of the region” on the Danube.

He further indicated that no casualties had been reported. According to Ukraine’s Operational Command in the south, Russia struck the region where one of the ports is located, destroying grain and agricultural machinery hangars.

“Ukrainian defence forces took control of Urozhaine,” and are consolidating their positions, Andrii Kovaliov, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said on national television Wednesday morning.

“Urozhaine was liberated,” Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said on Telegram.
