The incident occurred on Tuesday when Shivakumar was participating in an ‘Eco-walk’ event in Bengaluru. Though World Environment Day is officially observed on June 5, the awareness programme was organised a day prior in the city.

</excerpt>

Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday surveyed chosen areas of the city that were hit by the rain overnight and said he would conduct a day-long city-wide inspection on Tuesday, along with deputy CM DK Shivakumar and city legislators.

“Considering that traffic congestion increases in the evening and could cause inconvenience to the public, only a few locations were visited today. Tomorrow, a full-day city tour will be undertaken along with the Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru legislators,” Siddaramaiah said.

“Sensitive areas will be visited, grievances of the people will be heard, the work done by officials will be reviewed, and necessary instructions will be issued,’ he told reporters after visiting some of the affected areas.

Encroached Drains and Ongoing BBMP Work Underlined

Highlighting the city’s stormwater drain infrastructure, he said, “In the city, stormwater drains have been encroached upon, drains are shallow and narrow, and filled with silt. The BBMP has been instructed several times to clear these, and works are still ongoing. There are 859.90 km of stormwater drains. So far, retaining walls have been built for 491 km.”

“Work is underway to build retaining walls along another 195 km. Work on 173 km of drains is being taken up with support from the World Bank. Drain work is progressing. Without stormwater drains, it is difficult to prevent waterlogging on roads,” he added.

Siddaramaiah Identifies 210 Low-Lying Areas, Relief Work in Motion

According to the chief minister, “About 210 low-lying areas in Bengaluru have been identified as sensitive and highly sensitive. Of these, works in 166 areas have been taken up. Temporary measures have been implemented in the remaining 44 locations. Out of these, 24 works are in progress. Once completed, this problem will be significantly reduced.”

He also announced financial compensation for a rain-related death: “A woman has died in Whitefield. A compensation of ₹5 lakh will be provided by the government.”

In reference to traffic and drainage problems identified by traffic police, Siddaramaiah stated, “Traffic police have identified 132 places. Out of these, works in 82 places are finished, and 41 works are pending. This year, drain-related works in the whole city have been undertaken.”

On clearing the fallen trees, the CM stated: “There are special teams to cut down trees immediately. Work will be undertaken in a manner that does not cause any inconvenience to the people.”

4,000+ Encroachments Identified, Half Cleared During Siddaramaiah Visit

Referring to encroachments, he further stated, “4,292 encroachments have been found out. 2,326 have been cleared. Orders have been issued so that more encroachments do not occur.”

“Heavy rain has been witnessed at Silk Board Junction and Hebbal Junction. Railways will take care that water flows smoothly in these areas,” Shivakumar informed the press.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge responded to Veerappa Moily’s remarks about Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, downplaying speculation about him taking over as Chief Minister. Kharge clarified that no one, including Moily, claimed Shivakumar would assume the role immediately.

Leadership Decisions Rest with High Command

Kharge emphasized that party decisions rest with the Congress high command and not individual leaders. He stated, “Neither Moily nor anyone else said that DK Shivakumar is going to be the CM today or tomorrow. They said that one day, he would be rewarded for his hard work. High command will decide it.” He reiterated that Siddaramaiah remains the Chief Minister, while Shivakumar serves as Deputy CM.

Congress Stands by High Command’s Decision

Supporting Kharge’s stance, Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad also dismissed any internal leadership debate. He stated, “If Moily has made such a statement, then you have to ask him because we always follow the policy of the high command. Whatever the high command says, that is final for us.”

Moily’s Praise for DK Shivakumar

On Sunday, Veerappa Moily had praised DK Shivakumar, asserting that he has the potential to become Chief Minister. He said, “You have given good leadership. You have built the party. People are making statements, but no one can stop you from becoming CM. Becoming Chief Minister is not something that should be given as a gift; it is something he has earned through hard work.”

DK Shivakumar Denies Links to BJP

Meanwhile, DK Shivakumar dismissed reports suggesting he was getting close to the BJP, calling it false propaganda. He firmly stated, “I was born a Congressman, and I cherish it. It is being misled that I am getting closer to the BJP, which is a false conspiracy against me.” He addressed these claims during a press conference at his Sadashivanagar residence.

</excerpt>

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, speaking to ANI on Wednesday, assured the public that Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards would be reissued to eligible families if they had been wrongly canceled. He reassured people that there was no need for concern.

“The Centre has established certain parameters for BPL families, and our government is acting accordingly. If BPL cards of some eligible families have been mistakenly cancelled, new cards will be issued. There are discrepancies in some areas, and we will address them. A review is underway to remove ineligible beneficiaries,” he said.

When asked about the absence of physical verification during the cancellation process, unlike when issuing new cards, Shivakumar explained that corrective actions would be taken to resolve the errors.

“The Chief Minister has instructed the concerned minister. We are sending the list of cancelled BPL cards to each MLA, who will assess the situation. The Guarantee Implementation Committee will be tasked with visiting households and resolving any errors in the cancellation of BPL cards,” he added.

Regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to Delhi, Shivakumar clarified that it was related to the launch of Nandini milk in the capital and had no political implications.

“The Chief Minister is travelling to Delhi for the launch of Nandini milk in the capital. I was also scheduled to join but will instead visit Murdeshwar for the Fishermen’s Day celebration. Expanding the Nandini brand will benefit farmers. The visit is purely developmental and not political,” he said.

On the issue of the Naxal leader’s encounter, Shivakumar mentioned that the Home Minister would comment on the Left parties’ protests regarding the encounter of Naxal leader Vikram Gowda.

BJP leaders visit the site, accusing the Congress government of law and order failure and politicizing the incident.
</excerpt>

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Tuesday that his government has taken swift and decisive action regarding the Nagamangala incident. He also accused the BJP of politicizing the matter.

Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi, Shivakumar stated, “Our government has taken prompt and firm action in response to the recent riots during Ganesha processions. The necessary steps have been taken, and the police will continue to handle the situation appropriately. The BJP can continue with their political games as usual.”

The riot occurred on September 11 in Nagamangala, Mandya district, following allegations of stone-pelting during a Ganpati immersion procession. State Home Minister Parameshwara mentioned that the government would review the BJP’s fact-finding committee report if it contains new information.

On Monday, a BJP fact-finding committee, led by CN Ashwath Narayan, visited the site of the violence along with other BJP leaders and officials. Narayan did not hold back in criticizing the Congress government, blaming it for failing to maintain law and order.

He stated, “The Congress government has failed to maintain law and order. They are constantly involved in appeasement politics. Their approach is unclear and divisive, aiming to split society along communal lines for vote bank politics. These incidents keep recurring.”

BJP leader Narayana Gowda, also a member of the fact-finding committee, added, “This government has failed. Whether this is an intelligence failure or a deliberate act is uncertain, but we suspect Congress’s involvement. There are indications that petrol bombs are being prepared and coordinated with Congress workers. The Home Minister and police officials are managing the situation, but this seems to be revenge for Congress’s loss in the last MP elections.”

</excerpt>

Even as Karnataka High Court gave relief to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged MUDA scam case, the Congress is holding the meeting of its MLAs in Bengaluru to decide on the future course action.

The Chief Minister will be arriving in the national capital on Friday along with is deputy DK Shivakumar and will meet the party leadership, sources said.

According to party sources, Siddaramaiah will be arriving in the national capital on Friday afternoon and besides his meeting with few of the Union Ministers he will also meet the senior party leadership, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge along with Shivakumar, where Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will also be present amid the former landing in trouble over the Governor granting sanction for prosecution in corruption allegations.

Meanwhile, the party is also holding a meeting of its MLAs in Bengaluru today. The sources said that Siddaramaiah is likely to brief the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on the latest developments related to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case and the CLP is likely to pass a resolution fully backing him.

However, the exact agenda for the meeting in the national capital on Friday is not known though sources said both the leaders are expected to brief the central leadership about the fallout of the Governor’s action and how the state government and party unit plan to counter the allegations.

Earlier this month, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has allowed three private individuals to seek investigations against Siddaramaiah on complaints of corruption in the allotment of 14 housing sites in Mysuru to the wife of the CM — in exchange for 3.16 acres of land allegedly acquired illegally by a local authority in the city.

The Governor’s order was dated August 16, and was communicated the following day.
On August 19, while hearing a challenge to the order by the chief minister, the Karnataka High Court paused precipitative action based on the Governor’s sanction until August 29, the next date of hearing.

Siddaramaiah had denied the allegations. Meanwhile, the Congress and his deputy Shivakumar all have rallied behind Siddaramaiah and accused the BJP of using the Raj Bhawan against him.

Shivakumar stated, “There is nothing like that. It is all bogus. We are exposing their corruption, and that’s why they are speaking out against us.” His remarks came amidst ongoing tensions between the Congress and BJP over corruption issues.

Earlier, on August 9, Shivakumar had claimed that Union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy faced numerous de-notification cases, asserting that he would reveal Kumaraswamy’s alleged corruption. At a Janandolana event in Mysuru, Shivakumar criticized Kumaraswamy, stating, “Kumaraswamy claims to be ‘Clean Swamy,’ but officials have informed me about 50 cases of de-notification against him.”

Shivakumar also accused Kumaraswamy of seeking refuge in the BJP due to these allegations and criticized him for his leadership in the JD(S). He claimed, “Kumaraswamy did not even spare his own brother’s son for his son’s political future. He is unable to accept that an OBC leader is serving as Chief Minister for the second term.”

Further addressing the BJP’s attempts to destabilize state governments, Shivakumar said, “The BJP has tried to destabilize many governments through Operation Lotus. The British could not destabilize Congress for 200 years; how can the BJP succeed today? Congress will rule Karnataka for 10 years.”

Shivakumar also responded to claims of irregularities in the MUDA case, where it was alleged that the Chief Minister’s wife received compensation for land lost due to encroachment by MUDA. He rejected these claims, saying, “There is no irregularity. BJP and JD(S) are trying to fabricate a scam in MUDA.”

Concluding his remarks, Shivakumar highlighted the Congress party’s success in the 2023 state assembly elections and predicted a continued tenure, stating, “In 2023, we secured 43 percent of the vote, and 45 percent in 2024. If Kumaraswamy believes he can destabilize the government, he is mistaken. Congress will not only last for 10 months but for another 10 years.”

</excerpt>

Bengaluru court grants bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case filed against him by the BJP Karnataka unit. Gandhi is scheduled to appear before a special court in Bengaluru on Friday in connection with the said case, which revolves around allegations made by the BJP regarding advertisements and campaigning by the Congress ahead of the 2023 state assembly elections, purportedly damaging their image.

Earlier, bail was secured by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, both of whom appeared in court on June 1. Siddaramaiah commented on the case, revealing, “A private complaint was filed against me, KPCC president, and Rahul Gandhi too. Rahul Gandhi will also appear in court.” Shivakumar dismissed the allegations as “false,” echoing Siddaramaiah’s stance.

This legal development unfolds against the backdrop of the May 2023 state assembly elections, where the Congress party clinched a commanding victory, securing 135 out of 224 seats and displacing the ruling BJP. The BJP managed to secure 66 seats, while the Janata Dal-Secular won 19 seats.

The upcoming court appearance of Rahul Gandhi underscores the ongoing legal battle between political factions, highlighting the intensity of post-election disputes and the scrutiny faced by leaders in the Indian political landscape.

</excerpt>

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to appear before a special court in Karnataka’s Bengaluru on Friday, responding to a defamation case initiated by the state’s BJP unit.

Early Friday morning, Gandhi was seen at Delhi airport, heading to Bengaluru for the court appearance. The defamation complaint alleges that advertisements in local newspapers and ‘false campaigning’ by the Congress party ahead of the 2023 state assembly elections tarnished the BJP’s image.

The case has been filed against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and Rahul Gandhi. Previously, the court granted bail to both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, who appeared before it on June 1.

“I appeared before the judge as legally instructed by the court. I got the bail. A private complaint was filed against me, KPCC president, and Rahul Gandhi too. Rahul Gandhi will also appear in the court,” Siddaramaiah told ANI after securing bail.

Shivakumar described the case as ‘false,’ stating, “It is a false case from the Bharatiya Janata Party on me, Rahul Gandhi, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.”

The defamation case charges come in the wake of a highly contentious assembly election in May 2023, where the Congress party achieved a sweeping victory, securing 135 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, thereby displacing the ruling BJP. The BJP won 66 seats, while the Janata Dal (Secular) obtained 19 seats.

Gandhi’s court appearance is anticipated to be a significant event, drawing considerable media attention and highlighting the ongoing political friction between the Congress and BJP in Karnataka.

When questioned about the exit poll findings, DK Shivakumar stated, “I don’t believe (exit poll findings),” and added, “INDIA will form the government.”

The exit polls on June 1 forecasted a landslide victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also dismissed the exit poll predictions as a “media creation” and expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc would surpass the 295-seat mark in the Lok Sabha elections.

“We are not going to agree with the exit poll. Exit polls are a media creation. In the Centre, our President has made it very clear that the INDIA alliance will win 295 seats,” Siddaramaiah told ANI on Monday.

The exit polls indicated that the ruling BJP-led NDA is likely to improve its performance compared to its 2019 record when it secured 352 seats. Two polls suggested that the BJP would increase its numbers from the 303 seats won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

According to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, the NDA is predicted to win 361-401 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, while the INDIA bloc is expected to secure 131-166 seats, with 8 to 20 seats going to other parties. The Republic PMarq exit poll forecasted 359 out of 543 seats for the NDA, 154 for the INDIA bloc, and 30 for others. The Republic Matrize poll projected 353-368 seats for the NDA, 118-113 for the INDIA bloc, and 43-48 for others. The NewsX Dynamics poll predicted 371 seats for the NDA, 125 for the INDIA bloc, and 47 for others.

The Lok Sabha elections were conducted in seven phases starting from April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.

What Was The Matter

The BJP MLC lodged a defamation complaint alleging that a 40 percent commission was charged for the execution of public works.

The case was filed against Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Additionally, the complaint claimed that the advertisement released by the Congress against the BJP on May 5 was ‘fanciful, baseless, foundation-less and irrational’.

“The advertisement showed the images of accused D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah seeking votes for the Congress. The complainant said that this shows that both the accused were directly responsible for all the false statements in the advertisement.” read the complaint.

Further, the complainant also alleged, that reckless allegations were made under the caption Corruption Rate card, and also claimed, that false allegations were issued by KPCC and other three accused against the party.

Meanwhile, congress MP Rahul Gandhi was also summoned by the court, for defamation case. But Gandhi had asked for exemption on the grounds of election commitments.

Nonetheless, the court asked for his presence, as a result, the matter was adjourned till 3 pm.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters, DK Shivakumar appearing before the court alleged, that it was BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal, who alleged that BJP was corrupt.

</excerpt>

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy alleged on Tuesday that 25,000 pen drives containing sexually explicit videos, purportedly recorded by his nephew Prajwal Revanna, were distributed across Karnataka before the Lok Sabha elections last month. Kumaraswamy accused Congress leader DK Shivakumar of orchestrating this “conspiracy.”

Prajwal Revanna allegedly flew abroad on April 27, following the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls. HD Kumaraswamy claimed that the pen drives were initially circulated in Bengaluru Rural, the constituency of DK Shivakumar’s brother, DK Suresh.

Prajwal Revanna, who is the MP and JD(S) candidate in Karnataka’s Hassan, along with his father MLA H D Revanna, faces allegations of molesting their cook, with an additional case of rape registered against him. Earlier this month, Revanna’s father was arrested in a kidnapping case related to alleged sexual assault. In response to these allegations, the Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the charges.

Hinting at DK Shivakumar’s involvement, Kumaraswamy criticized the SIT, dubbing it the “Siddaramaiah Investigation Team” and “Shivakumar Investigation Team.” He questioned why action wasn’t taken against individuals named in complaints related to the distribution of the pen drives, despite his party’s polling agent filing a complaint.

Kumaraswamy also raised concerns about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks predicting the defeat of all three JD(S) candidates in the Lok Sabha elections, suggesting a possible conspiracy. JD(S) has suspended Prajwal Revanna, and authorities have issued a Blue Corner notice to locate him as he has been missing since April 27.

</excerpt>

Shiv Sena (UBT) Spokesperson Anand Dubey offered a pointed critique, questioning the timing of the recent notification regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), implying that the government had ample opportunity over the past decade to introduce it.

Dubey expressed his concerns, stating, “We are sitting in March 2024, if you wanted to bring a law, you had ten years, you could have brought the law. Now when the code of conduct will be imposed in 2-4 days, then you are bringing the law…Today you have implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act CAA, what will happen from this? There are elections ahead, that’s why you are doing all these things.”

Dubey insinuated that the abrupt implementation aims to sow seeds of chaos in the nation, potentially impacting the political landscape.

“BJP can do anything to win the elections. They don’t care about the promises made by them, this is all Jumlabazi. They don’t want to address the main issues such as inflation and unemployment in the country,” Dubey said.

Training guns at the BJP, he said, “Do you know the meaning of Ram Rajya? Shri Ram went to exile to fulfill the promises made by him, and you break parties, put people in jail?, talk about Vipaksh mukt bharat? These (implementation of CAA) are all tactics to win the elections, but the people of the country know everything.”

In alignment with Shiv Sena’s (UBT) viewpoint, Samajwadi Party MP ST Hassan characterized the center’s action as a diversionary tactic orchestrated by the BJP.

” This is just a tactic to distract the people. We have no objection to people being given citizenship but why has religion been defined in that. Are Muslims not being persecuted in the countries that has been spoken of in the act. In fact, the Ahmediyas are persecuted in all the three countries (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh). The government should offer citizenship to all persecuted people. There can be inquiries done on the antecedents of those applying. The CAA is just setting the ground for the NRC where the people will have to prove that they are Indians” ST Hassan said.

DK Shivakumar, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, also raised concerns about the timing of the act’s implementation, expressing apprehensions that it could exacerbate communal tensions in the country.

“They brought it after a long time of more than three and a half years. They could have taken a decision earlier. Now is the time for elections, lot of communal issues may start. We want a peaceful country. This is not the right time. Also, it is not needed for this country,” he said.

Atishi, an AAP leader and Delhi Minister, also suspected a political motive behind the timing of the act’s implementation, particularly noting its occurrence just before the elections.

“Just a few days before the Lok Sabha elections, CAA is being brought. What does this show? This shows that Modi govt knows that they haven’t done any work in the last 10 years,” AAP leader Atishi said.

“The youth today is unemployed, there are no homes for the poor, inflation is increasing. Rather than bringing people from the neighbouring countries, why doesn’t he offer employment, provide home to the people of this country?” she said.

On Monday evening, the Union Home Ministry released regulations for enacting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), coming just days before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections schedule.

Introduced by the Narendra Modi government and ratified by Parliament in 2019, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants, such as Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who fled from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and entered India before December 31, 2014.

</excerpt>

Addressing the severe water crisis in Bengaluru, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized the state’s urgent efforts, noting that even his home borewell had dried up. He stated, “All the borewells are dry, including the one at my house.” The state is actively identifying water sources, having examined 217 tunnels and facing over 3,000 dried borewells in Bangalore.

Expressing concern, Shivakumar attributed the water scarcity to the drying borewells and highlighted the need for assistance with the Mekedatu project from the central government. He stated, “I hope the central government will at least come to our rescue now to see the Mekedatu problem is solved.”

Last year, he identified the Mekedatu project as the key solution to the water-sharing dispute with neighboring states. The worsening crisis is causing locals to pay significantly higher prices for water tankers, with rates soaring from ₹500 to ₹2,000 for a 5,000-litre tanker.

Shivakumar assured efforts to provide water at reasonable rates and had warned water tanker owners about seizures if not registered by the March 7 deadline. He stated, “Of the total 3,500 water tankers in Bengaluru city, only 10%, or 219 tankers, have registered with the authorities. The government will seize them if they don’t register before the deadline.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that 223 out of the state’s 236 talukas are facing drought, with 219 severely affected.

The Bengaluru City Crime Branch police have filed the case. The arrest occurred following the filing of an FIR at Surpur police station in Yadgiri, Karnataka. </excerpt>

The Supreme Court’s decision today brought significant relief to Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as it dismissed a 2018 money laundering case against the Congress leader. Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials arrested the Congress leader in September 2019 in connection with this case, but the Delhi High Court granted him bail the following month.

Mr. Shivakumar accused the BJP of political vendetta at the time and expressed his trust in the judiciary. The ED’s investigation stemmed from Income Tax department raids on properties associated with the Congress leader and his associates in 2017, during which cash totaling nearly ₹300 crore was reportedly seized. Mr. Shivakumar countered by alleging that the cash was linked to the BJP.

The court said, “Question of whether 120B IPC can constitute a predicate standalone offence to enable ED to invoke PMLA has already been decided by the Supreme Court.”

In November of the preceding year, the apex court decided that criminal conspiracy, as outlined in Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code, would be considered a scheduled offense under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act only if the purported conspiracy aims to commit an offense listed in the Act’s Schedule. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has requested a reconsideration of this decision.

Today, the court stated that the agency has the option to revisit today’s order if the ED’s request for review is granted. In 2019, Mr. Shivakumar sought to have the summonses issued by the ED dismissed, first at the Karnataka High Court, and then at the Supreme Court after finding no relief there.

</excerpt>

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar have reached at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, initiating a protest named Chalo Delhi against the Central government’s tax devolution policies towards the southern state. The demonstration is witnessing the participation of several cabinet ministers from the Congress government.

Siddaramaiah has accused the Central government of perpetuating economic disparities, asserting that his government opposes the unjust treatment in tax devolution and grants for the people of Karnataka. In a pre-protest statement, DK Shivakumar emphasized their demand for rightful entitlements, stating, “We are asking for our rights, we are getting only 13 per cent of what we are supposed to get. I do not mind if other states benefit. The policies and schemes that they (Centre) have given to Gujarat, they should extend the same to us.”

State minister Priyank Kharge highlighted various demands, including tax devolution and the release of drought relief funds. He emphasized that Karnataka, as an economic powerhouse, deserves fair consideration from the central government.

Simultaneously, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka MPs are staging protests in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament, focusing on the alleged misappropriation of funds by the Siddaramaiah government. BJP MP Lehar Singh accused the Congress of corruption and mismanagement, attributing their protest to internal disputes.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi dismissed Siddaramaiah’s accusations of reduced tax devolution share by the Centre, labeling it as baseless and asserting that the Karnataka Chief Minister is engaging in dirty politics. Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa criticized the Congress government for orchestrating a protest in Delhi, claiming it to be a mere attempt to create drama ahead of upcoming elections.

</excerpt>

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government for the suspension of a large number of MPs during the recently concluded winter session of Parliament, terming the action as the “biggest disrespect to Indian democracy.”

“What we are asking is peace, harmony and integrity; what we are asking is a statement from the Union Home Minister,” DK Shivakumar told reporters here, reacting to the suspension of 146 MPs from both Houses of Parliament during the Winter Session.
“They have suspended 146 MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and passed bills; this is the biggest disrespect to Indian democracy. As everyone has the right to ask, that is why we are protesting today,” he added.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned sine die on Thursday.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc staged a protest under the banner ‘Save Democracy’, at Jantar Mantar here on Friday.
Senior opposition leaders, including Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar, Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury, and others, shared the dais to protest against the recent suspension of 146 opposition MPs from Parliament’s Winter Session, which was adjourned sine die on Thursday.

NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar said the opposition was ready to pay any price to save the democracy.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, participating in the protest, said that the protest is send a message among people that whatever is happening is ‘wrong for the future of the country’.
“In the history of democracy in the world, 146 MPs have never been suspended… People should know that democracy is in danger. The protest is to tell the people that whatever is happening is wrong for the future of the country. There is only one solution: people should change this government and bring the INDIA Alliance into power,” Tharoor told ANI.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said, “It was only natural on the part of the opposition to ask for a statement by the home minister… But the government was adamant in not heeding our request. So there were protests within the Parliament. The reaction of the government was to suspend 146 members of the opposition and ram through laws, which have far-reaching consequences on the daily life of people in India… The government wants to have a parliament which would only be a stamping house for all their laws without any discussion… So they want the Parliament to just be like in China or in North Korea… This is a betrayal of the faith people have in the parliamentary system.

Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is also scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad on Saturday, one day prior to the Telangana assembly polls vote counting. Congressman Randeep Surjewala is in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, at the moment.

The BJP is expected to win 140–162 seats and a 47% vote share in Madhya Pradesh, according to exit poll predictions. With a 41% vote share, it predicted that Congress would gain 60–90 seats. It is anticipated that others will receive 0-3 seats and 12% of the vote.
In Chhattisgarh, three exit polls showed Congress winning handily, while another indicated the party was in the winning range. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel led the Congress during the election.

Exit polls in Telangana, meanwhile, on Thursday indicated that the Congress was likely to form government there and that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which has been in power for ten years in the youngest state in India, would not be able to secure a majority.

With variations in their forecasts of the victor in the crucial Hindi heartland state of Rajasthan, which has a nearly three-decade tradition of not repeating an incumbent government, the exit polls on Thursday confirmed the impression that the state was witnessing a tough contest. The Election Commission declared on Friday that the Mizoram Assembly election vote count has been rescheduled for December 4.
