Across 2,696 sites, the Election Commisas set up 13,766 voting stations to serve about 15 million legal voters. Almost 100,000 pollstaff have been assigned to guarantee a seamless voting process. To preserve order and promote voter engagement, officials have put in quite strict security protocols.

Emphasizing their governance history and welfare projects, AAP under Chief Minister Atishi Marlena seeks a third straight term The BJP should concentrate on growth and infrastructure to get Delhi back under their control after almost thirty years. The Congress attempts to rebuild its presence in the political map of the capital.

Electoral Inspiration

Honorable Chief Electoral Officer R. </excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is called the ‘ Chanakya’ of the BJP not without reason. Since the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections, he has played the role of BJP’s chief strategist in every assembly and parliamentary election. He has formulated strategies to win each and every seat, infused energy into the party, and led BJP to one victory after another, winning state and national elections. He has justified through his consistent success the sobriquet ‘Chanakya’

Last year, during the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, many predicted BJP’s defeat. However, Amit Shah’s brilliant strategy and his relentless 24/7 dedication stunned everyone by ensuring BJP formed governments in both states. All exit polls had projected BJP’s loss, but when the results came out, everyone acknowledged Amit Shah’s strategic genius.

Shah’s Chessboard in Delhi

The BJP has been out of power in Delhi for the past 27 years. This time, Amit Shah has taken it upon himself to bring the party back to power in the national capital. He has crafted a powerful strategy for the Delhi Assembly elections, working with the same micro-management approach that succeeded in Haryana and Maharashtra. For all 70 assembly constituencies, leaders have been assigned responsibilities at three to five levels.

BJP leaders from other states have been stationed at each constituency with strict instructions not to leave their assigned areas until the elections conclude. A noteworthy example is senior leader P P Chaudhary, who had to leave his comfortable residence and live in a single-room accommodation in Mundka.

Amit Shah has delegated responsibilities at multiple levels—senior leaders have been assigned two constituencies each, while another tier of leaders has been entrusted with oversight across three to five constituencies.

Taking micro-management a step further, Amit Shah has deployed leaders from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Punjab to campaign in areas with significant populations from these states. Their task is to establish deep connections with voters, even visiting homes individually.

In addition to micro-management, Amit Shah has implemented a social engineering strategy. BJP’s leaders from the Jat, Dalit, and OBC communities are actively reaching out to people from their respective groups, covering their neighbourhoods door-to-door.

To connect with various professional and social groups, Amit Shah has also directed the organization of conferences targeting traders, lawyers, government employees, and doctors.

Shah Personally Leads the Delhi Campaign

Amit Shah has taken direct command of the Delhi elections. He holds late-night discussions with BJP leaders from each constituency, devising strategies for the coming days. His approach involves continuously gathering updates, feedback, and adjusting plans accordingly.

Initially, BJP leaders in Delhi lacked unity before the elections. However, Amit Shah’s direct involvement has transformed the party into a cohesive team, working together for a common goal.

While BJP could have made grand promises in its election manifesto, Amit Shah issued clear instructions that only achievable commitments should be made. He emphasizes maintaining public trust in BJP’s promises and works tirelessly to uphold that confidence.

Two days ago, when Amit Shah held a roadshow in Amar Colony, Kalkaji, and Badarpur, a massive crowd gathered. The people of Delhi were thrilled to see the Union Home Minister among them. During his roadshow in Kasturba Nagar, Delhi Police had set up ropes on both sides of the road to control the crowd, but as soon as Amit Shah ascended his campaign vehicle, he first ordered the removal of the barriers, allowing people to come closer.

This gesture deeply resonated with the public and party workers, who danced and cheered alongside him throughout the roadshow. Some people welcomed him with flowers, while others showered him with currency notes. Women greeted him with folded hands, showing their respect.

Amit Shah’s election rallies across Delhi are drawing massive crowds. He himself states that this overwhelming public support tells the story—change in Delhi is inevitable this time.

Amit Shah has focused the entire Delhi Assembly election campaign on a single issue—calling out former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his lies and false promises. In a media interaction, Shah asserted that the people of Delhi no longer want deceit and have now learned the truth.

</excerpt>

Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, the Yamuna river has become a battleground for an escalating war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.

As per the reports the BJP-led Haryana government is preparing to file a defamation case against AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after he accused them of “mixing poison” into the Yamuna river water.

The BJP also planning to approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) with a formal complaint against Kejriwal. On the other hand, Kejriwal on Tuesday stood by his statement about “poison in Yamuna” and said he was not afraid of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s threat of legal action.

“Saini ji, don’t play politics over water. Stop trying to scare us with talk of filing a case. I won’t let the people of Delhi suffer. Tell your party to stop this dirty politics,” Kejriwal said.

The controversy erupted after Kejriwal, joined by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleged that the Haryana BJP government was polluting the Yamuna, risking a potential health crisis in Delhi.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several BJP MPs strongly refuted these allegations, calling them baseless. “It is their nature to accuse and run away,” Saini remarked during an event in Chandigarh.

Haryana MP Dharambir Singh also rejected Kejriwal’s claims during a press conference, stating, “Haryana provides Delhi with 10,000 cusecs of drinking water through the Western Yamuna Canal, which is treated before distribution. The 300 cusecs we release into the Yamuna is to ensure the river does not dry up.”

Singh added that Haryana continues to share its water despite Punjab’s refusal to contribute, highlighting that Delhi often returns polluted water to Haryana.

Several Haryana leaders, including MP Kiran Choudhary, argued that the water Haryana provides is safe and tested but becomes polluted as it flows through Delhi. She cited sewage, plastics, and contaminants from Delhi’s water system as major contributors to the pollution.

Haryana minister Anil Vij hit back at Kejriwal, stating, “For 10 years, you have been in power. If Yamuna is dirty, why haven’t you cleaned it? If you claim pollution is coming from Haryana, form an international expert team to check the water quality at Sonipat and Okhla. The truth will come out.”

Vij further accused Kejriwal of deflecting responsibility, adding that Delhi’s failure to clean the river over the years cannot be blamed on neighboring states.

AAP leaders, including Haryana’s Anurag Danda, have doubled down on their allegations. Danda recently visited Panipat, capturing videos of industrial drains releasing waste into the Yamuna. This, he claimed, was proof of Haryana’s role in polluting the river.

In previous disputes, AAP has consistently blamed Haryana for water-related issues. In July 2023, during Delhi’s floods, the AAP government accused Haryana of deliberately releasing excess water from the Hathnikund Barrage to flood the capital. Similarly, in June 2024, then Delhi water minister Atishi alleged a conspiracy by Haryana to deny Delhi its rightful share of Yamuna water, leading her to stage a hunger strike.

The Yamuna water-sharing dispute has a long history, rooted in a 1994 memorandum of understanding (MoU) between five states, including Haryana and Delhi.

The MoU governs water allocation through the Western Yamuna Canal in Haryana and the Eastern Yamuna Canal in Uttar Pradesh. Despite this agreement, political tensions over water shortages and pollution have repeatedly flared.

ECI asks Kejriwal to substantiate allegations

New delhi: The Election Commission of India has asked AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal to provide factual evidence to substantiate his serious allegations that the river Yamuna was poisoned by the neighbouring Haryana state; the nature and extent of the chemical used for the poisoning Yamuna that would have killed the people in large numbers resulting into mass genocide; and that the engineers of Delhi Jal Board have actually detected and prevented it timely, much before it could mix with the waters of Yamuna in Delhi and caused genocide.

Notably, both BJP and Congress have complained to the Election Commission against Kejriwal for making serious false allegations on Monday.

</excerpt>

A total of 699 candidates are set to contest the elections for 70 Delhi Assembly seats on February 5, according to the Election Commission (EC).

The deadline for submitting nominations was January 17, with scrutiny completed on January 18 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations being January 20, the EC stated.

The New Delhi constituency, where former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting, has the highest number of candidates at 23. The BJP has fielded Parvesh Verma, son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, while the Congress has nominated Sandeep Dikshit, son of former CM Sheila Dikshit, for this seat.

Patel Nagar and Kasturba Nagar have the fewest candidates, with just five each. Other constituencies with six candidates include Tilak Nagar, Karol Bagh, Gandhi Nagar, Greater Kailash, Mangol Puri, and Tri Nagar, as per EC data.

Key candidates in the Greater Kailash seat include AAP’s Saurabh Bhardwaj, BJP’s Shikha Rai, and Congress’ Garvit Singhvi. In Kasturba Nagar, the main contenders are AAP’s Ramesh Pahalwan, BJP’s Neeraj Basoya, and Congress’ Abhishek Dutt.

As polling day nears, Delhi’s political scene is intensifying. The BJP has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of fielding the highest number of candidates with criminal records, despite AAP’s earlier stance against such practices.

“Aam Aadmi Party used to say that they do not want criminals in their assembly because criminals will not be able to pass important and strict laws. But when the list (of candidates) was released, it was found that the Aam Aadmi Party has the highest number of people with criminal records — nearly 60%, followed by Congress. This means that Aam Aadmi Party has taken a U-turn once again,” BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla told ANI.

The single-phase polling for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats will take place on February 5, with votes to be counted on February 8.

The Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced severe setbacks in the last two assembly elections, failing to win a single seat. In contrast, AAP dominated both the 2015 and 2020 elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of 70, while the BJP secured only three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020.

</excerpt>

BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to hold 14 poll rallies and public programs in Delhi starting January 23 as part of the party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections.

According to a senior source in Delhi BJP, “UP CM Yogi Adityanath will play a crucial role in campaigning in Delhi for BJP. His presence as UP CM in Delhi will impact voters who have a UP background. Yogi will do 14 rallies and public programs starting from 23rd January.”

The source further informed ANI, “UP CM will campaign in areas like Ghonda, Shahdra, Dwarka, Bijwasan, Palam, Rajender Nagar, Patel Nagar, and others. These areas are said to be populated with people with UP background.”

Meanwhile, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal criticized Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the former Delhi Chief Minister of making hypocritical statements before coming to power and claiming his “deceptiveness now stands exposed.” Meghwal said, “Arvind Kejriwal had said that he will not live in a government house, will not take any security. Now he has built a good house and he has good security. Arvind Kejriwal has been exposed and that is why he is lying a lot.”

Meghwal further asserted, “After the formation of the double-engine government, Delhi will develop a lot. BJP government will be formed in Delhi.”

BJP candidate from the Karol Bagh assembly constituency, Dushyant Gautam, also raised concerns about the state of basic amenities in the capital. “I am not contesting the election but the people of Karol Bagh are contesting the election… This fight has now become the people’s fight… Delhi is the heart of India which should remain clean… Unfortunately, even the drinking water here is dirty…” he told ANI.

A three-way contest is expected in the Delhi elections, with the ruling AAP facing challenges from the BJP and Congress. Polling in Delhi is scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes to take place on February 8.

</excerpt>

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda unveiled the party’s Delhi Assembly election manifesto, titled the Sankalp Patra, on Friday. Among the key promises is a monthly allowance of Rs 2,500 for every woman in Delhi under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana. The BJP also pledged to continue all existing welfare schemes currently operational in the national capital.

Highlighting the central government’s flagship health initiative, the BJP vowed to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme for 51 lakh residents of Delhi, providing health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh from the very first cabinet meeting. “Once we form the government in Delhi, the Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented for 51 lakh people who were deprived of its benefits under the AAP government. Additionally, we will offer an extra Rs 5 lakh insurance cover,” Nadda stated.

Calling the manifesto a “foundation for a developed Delhi,” Nadda expressed confidence in winning the election. He emphasized that the Sankalp Patra was prepared after extensive public consultation, which included over 12,000 meetings and feedback from approximately 1.8 lakh individuals. The party also used 41 LED vans to gather ideas directly from the people.

Criticizing the ruling AAP government, Nadda accused it of corruption, particularly in its Mohalla clinics. “Their Mohalla Clinics are hubs of corruption, designed to mislead people. Fraudulent lab tests worth Rs 300 crore have been conducted. Our government will thoroughly investigate these scams,” he asserted.

Nadda also criticized AAP’s unfulfilled promises, pointing to its track record of unkept commitments. “They promised Rs 2,100 per month in 2021, but failed to deliver in both Delhi and Punjab. In 2024, they promised Rs 1,000 per month but, as expected, failed again. Even subsidies on LPG were not provided. This is the real track record of what I call ‘AAPda,’” he added.

The BJP promised to introduce several initiatives, including free OPD and diagnostic services for all individuals aged 70 and above. Additionally, the party will provide Rs 10 lakh health cover and increase the Senior Citizen’s Pension from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 for those aged 60-70.

Senior citizens, widows, specially-abled, and destitute aged over 70 years will see a pension increase from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000.

In a step towards improving the quality of life in underserved areas, the BJP proposed the launch of Atal Canteens in JJ clusters to provide nutritious meals for just Rs 5.

The BJP also reassured that once in power, the party would continue existing welfare schemes while making them more efficient and transparent, eliminating corruption from the process.

The BJP said these initiatives aim to enhance the welfare of Delhi’s residents, particularly the marginalized and vulnerable groups, signalling the BJP’s commitment to social welfare and development in the national capital.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in a single phase on February 5, with votes to be counted on February 8. The election is expected to be a three-way contest among the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the BJP, and the Congress. The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years consecutively, has faced significant setbacks in the last two elections and failed to secure a single seat. The BJP, on the other hand, has been out of power in Delhi since 1993.

Top Promises

Rs. 2,500 every month to every woman in Delhi through Mahila Samridhi Yojana.

LPG cylinders at Rs 500 to women from poor sections. One free cylinder on Holi and Diwali

6 nutrition kits and Rs 21,000 will be given to every pregnant woman.

‘Ayushman Bharat’ for 51 lakh people during first cabinet meeting, which will provide health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family

Rs 2,500 pension for senior citizens between the age of 60-70.

The BJP is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to regain power in Delhi after more than 25 years. Since 1998, the party has been out of power, initially due to the Congress, which ruled until 2013, and later due to the AAP.

</excerpt>

A total of 155 cases have been registered for violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the February 5 assembly polls in Delhi, officials reported on Tuesday.

As of January 13, Delhi Police have arrested 6,371 individuals under preventive action provisions and the Excise Act. According to officials, 105 unlicensed firearms and 78 cartridges were seized after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election date. Additionally, 16,315.82 litres of liquor were confiscated during this period.

Police have also seized 57.55 kg of drugs valued at ₹12 crore and cash amounting to ₹1,02,69,200.

“To ensure free, fair and peaceful Legislative Assembly Elections in Delhi, the Delhi Police is ensuring effective and strict implementation of the Election Commission of India’s guidelines and is adopting a zero-tolerance approach towards any violation concerning the model code of conduct,” an official release stated.

“Delhi Police has taken a number of measures, including increased vigilance on interstate border checkpoints and a crackdown on illegal activities with special insistence to curb illegal arms and liquor smuggling,” it added.

Following the announcement of election dates in Delhi on January 7, the MCC has come into effect in the national capital and will remain in force until the election process concludes.

The Delhi assembly polls will be conducted in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, followed by scrutiny on January 18 and the withdrawal of candidature by January 20.

The election is expected to feature a three-way contest between the ruling AAP, the BJP, and the Congress. The Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced significant setbacks in the past two assembly elections, failing to secure any seats. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP claimed eight seats.

</excerpt>

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah, declaring that he would not contest the Delhi elections if the central government withdrew all cases related to slum demolitions and submitted an undertaking in court to rehabilitate displaced people on the same land from which they were evicted.

Positioning himself as the “protector of slums and slum residents,” Kejriwal criticized the BJP for remembering slum-dwellers only during elections. “We saw recently how BJP leaders spend a night in different slums. Why now? Why didn’t you come here to sleep at night 10 years ago? All this jhuggi tourism is nothing but a drama to get votes. The BJP is a party of rich people. They think of jhuggi people as keeda makoda (insects). Do you think they are spending time here because they love jhuggi residents? No, they are showing love because they want votes from you,” he said while addressing a gathering outside the Railway Camp in the Shakur Basti constituency.

Kejriwal alleged that the BJP prioritizes land over the welfare of slum-dwellers, pointing to the lieutenant governor’s decision to change the land use of the Shakur Basti slum area to facilitate demolitions on December 7. He also accused the Railways of floating a tender to demolish the railway camp slum last September.

“This railway camp here, people are thinking they will get a house under the Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makan scheme, while the BJP already came up with a detailed plan to clear this area three months ago. If you vote for them and make them win, they will make you homeless in no less than two months,” Kejriwal warned. “They don’t love jhuggi people or care about anyone. They care only about their friends and political ambitions.”

Criticizing Shah directly, Kejriwal said, “In an event yesterday, Shah called people from several jhuggis and abused me. BJP says jahan jhuggi wahan makan. We also believe in this scheme. But jahan jhuggi wahan kiska makan? Jhuggi walon ke liye? Nahi. Jahan jhuggi wahan inke dost ka makan, builders ka makan. Everyone knows who they are.”

He issued a direct challenge to the BJP, stating, “Withdraw all the cases you have filed against the people of jhuggis, and submit an affidavit in court that you will give houses to all those people on the same land where they lived earlier… I will not contest the elections. I give you this challenge, accept it. Otherwise, Kejriwal will not go anywhere, but will fight the elections, win and stand for the slum people like a pillar and will not let you demolish their houses.”

Kejriwal further claimed that under the BJP’s Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makan scheme, only 4,000 houses had been built for slum residents, despite the existence of four lakh slums in Delhi. “It would take the saffron party at least a thousand years to provide housing for all these people. The reality is that they have no intention to construct houses for the poor. They are merely considering replacing slums with houses and commercial buildings for their rich friends,” he added.

“If you vote for BJP, it will be like signing your own suicide note. The BJP has plans to demolish all the jhuggis in Delhi. They will demolish all the slums within a year of forming a government. I was the one chief minister who woke up all the bureaucrats and reached the spot at midnight to stop the demolition process. I had saved several demolitions as CM,” he said.

Recalling past demolitions, Kejriwal read out the names of slums that had been razed, stating, “I failed to save three lakh people’s houses. I am not in politics for money; I am here to serve you. Aap nahi toh mai nahi.”

</excerpt>

The Congress on Sunday unveiled the “Yuva Udaan Yojana,” a scheme aimed at providing monthly financial assistance of ₹8,500 for one year to educated but unemployed youth in Delhi, if the party is voted to power in the national capital.

Announcing the scheme, Congress leader and former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot emphasized that the assistance will not be given for “sitting at home.” He stated, “We will provide financial assistance to youths who can show their skills in a company, factory or organisation. They will get money through these companies. This is not a scheme under which one will get money while sitting at home.”

Pilot further explained, “We will try that people are absorbed in those fields where they have received training, so that they can improve their skill set.”

Congress’ other promises for Delhi polls

On January 6, the Congress announced the “Pyari Didi Yojana,” promising ₹2,500 per month to women if elected to govern Delhi. Two days later, on January 8, the party introduced the “Jeevan Raksha Yojana,” which offers free health insurance of up to ₹25 lakh.

Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with votes set to be counted on February 8. The Congress has been out of power in Delhi since December 2013, when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ousted it.

In the previous elections, AAP secured landslide victories, winning 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020, while the Bharatiya Janata Party finished a distant second in both contests. The Congress, however, failed to win a single seat in either election.

</excerpt>

Saurabh Bhardwaj, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister of Health, Urban Development, and Water, said on Sunday that the election for Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will take place on April 26.

Bhardwaj, a nominated member of the MCD, told “It is necessary to hold the election in April.” “Incumbent Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has set April 26 as the date for this,” claimed Saurabh Bhardwaj, a Delhi government minister and AAP politician. “I hope the election will be peaceful if the LG Office follows all rules and regulations,” he added.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shelly Oberoi completed her 38-day tenure at the Mayoral post on 31st March. As per the norms, the election process needs to be completed before April 30.

Bhardwaj also attacked Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena, and said, “It was very unfortunate that LG nominated a presiding officer for the mayoral election who created hurdles in smooth conduct of the poll.”

“They even tried to allow nominated members (aldermen) to vote against the constitution, for which the Supreme Court slammed them,” Bhardwaj further alleged.
“The court said that it was wrong. That’s why it would like to request that only the right person should be chosen to hold the mayoral election,” he said.

“The matter regarding standing committee members’ election is pending in the court. I have no idea about the party’s candidate for the mayor post, and a final decision on the same will be taken by the party’s high command,” he added.

Earlier in the year, Shelly Oberoi was elected mayor of Delhi in the fourth attempt after much wrangling between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party.
The last three attempts to elect the Mayor failed due to the political bickering between the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party. They met for the first time on January 6, second on January 24 and last on February 6.The municipal elections in Delhi were held on December 4 and the results were announced on December 7. Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats out of 250.
