</excerpt>

Delhi Police marked one year of new criminal laws with over 2.5 lakh FIRs filed.

NEW DELHI: Marking one year since the successful implementation of new criminal laws in the national capital, Delhi Police data shows that over 2.5 lakh First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed during this period, with charge sheets registered in 62,000 cases.

According to the Delhi Police, “All police personnel have been trained, and so far, more than 2.5 lakh FIRs have been registered under the new law, out of which charge sheets in more than 62,000 cases have been filed.”

Notably, this period also saw intensified action against drug abuse. In 2024, more than 26,000 kg of drugs worth around Rs 9,200 crore were destroyed. During the same year, action under the PITNDPS Act was taken against seven criminals, and property worth approximately Rs 4.75 crore was seized, the data stated.

To mark the first anniversary of the new criminal laws, the police organised an exhibition demonstrating the proceedings of a criminal case under the new laws to the public, bringing to life the journey of a case through a combination of audio-visuals, animations, and live play aids.

The new criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act.

Major features highlighted in the exhibition include the mandatory involvement of forensic experts in cases involving offences punishable with imprisonment of more than seven years. This ensures a more scientific and credible investigation process from the outset.
Supporting this is the use of digital platforms like eSakshya for the secure collection and tamper-proof storage of evidence, thereby improving the admissibility of digital evidence in court.

To further streamline investigations, eForensics 2.0 has been integrated with CCTNS, enabling the electronic transmission of exhibits to forensic laboratories. This minimises delays and increases the speed and accuracy of forensic analysis.

Similarly, the MedLEaPR application allows hospitals to directly share post-mortem and medico-legal reports with investigating agencies through CCTNS, ensuring a secure and timely flow of critical medical evidence.

The laws have also introduced greater flexibility and efficiency in the judicial process. For instance, police can now seek custodial remand anytime within 60 days of arrest, rather than being limited to an early fixed window. In addition, draft charge sheets can be digitally shared with prosecutors via cloud storage, overcoming file size barriers and speeding up case review.

Since July 1, 2024, all fresh FIRs have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). However, cases filed earlier continue to be tried under the old laws until their final disposal.

The new laws have brought a modern justice system, incorporating provisions such as Zero FIR, online registration of police complaints, summons through electronic modes such as SMS, and mandatory videography of crime scenes for all heinous crimes.

These laws take into account current social realities and modern-day crimes and provide a mechanism to effectively deal with them, keeping in view the ideals enshrined in the Constitution.

</excerpt>

Delhi Police cracked down on undocumented foreign nationals, deporting 71 from Dwarka amid ongoing operations.

New Delhi: Delhi Police has carried out a major crackdown, deporting several undocumented foreign nationals back to their respective countries. Among the most notable actions, the Dwarka District Police alone apprehended 71 foreign nationals found unlawfully residing in the national capital and initiated the process for their deportation. The detainees comprise 47 Bangladeshi citizens, 17 Rohingyas from Myanmar, and 7 Nigerian nationals, all of whom were discovered without valid travel documents or visas.

This well-coordinated operation was executed under the leadership and supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka District, Ankit Singh involving multiple operational units including the Special Staff, Police Station Uttam Nagar, Anti-Narcotics Cell, Police Station Chhawla, and AATS (Anti-Auto Theft Squad).

According to police officials, these illegally residing foreign nationals were not only violating immigration laws but also placing additional pressure on the region’s limited public resources. Intelligence collection had been in progress over several weeks, enabling law enforcement to launch a focused operation in May. The individuals apprehended were either overstaying expired visas or had illegally entered India without any valid documentation.

After their detention, all 71 foreign nationals were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which subsequently ordered their deportation. They have been transferred to a detention centre pending the completion of the necessary legal and logistical deportation procedures.

Among the arrested were seven Nigerian nationals, including Musa Umaru Abdullahi and Abasifreke Umoh Bassey, who were found residing illegally in Delhi. These individuals hail from various Nigerian states and are aged between 30 and 35 years.

Similarly, 17 Rohingya immigrants from Myanmar were taken into custody. This group includes Mohammad Ali (22), Mohammad Rafiq (20), and Halima Khatoon (63), along with several other women and children. Most of them originated from regions such as Pyrine Daung District and Maungdaw Town in Myanmar and had crossed into India without fulfilling legal entry requirements.

In addition, the police detained 47 Bangladeshi nationals, including entire families consisting of men, women, and children. Among them were individuals like Anish, Rohima, Mushida, and Mohammad Umer Shani, who were found living in unauthorised conditions in areas linked to Kurigram, Rajbari, and Narsingdi districts of Bangladesh. Alarmingly, the group also included children as young as 3 to 12 years, indicating that whole families had illegally crossed the border into Indian territory.

Singh said, “The police are dedicated to ensuring internal security. Foreign nationals residing unlawfully create pressure on public infrastructure and may pose a law-and-order risk. We will continue to take strict action against such illegal activities.” This action forms part of a wider and continuous campaign by the Delhi Police to identify and deport unauthorised immigrants living in various parts of the national capital. Authorities have also called on the general public, especially landlords and property managers, to verify the documents and backgrounds of their tenants, particularly in neighbourhoods with a high concentration of foreign nationals.

</excerpt>

A 21-year-old man was arrested in Delhi for allegedly opening a false social media profile in his ex-girlfriend’s name to tarnish her reputation, police said on Monday.

Victim Files Complaint at Cyber Police Station

Aman, a resident of Old Anarkali in Krishna Nagar, allegedly created a fake social media profile using the name and images of a 25-year-old woman. She resides in Civil Lines and works as an event manager.

According to the police, the victim, whose identity has been kept confidential, reported the issue at the cyber police station. She complained that someone had created a false account using her photos. The account handler then sent reminder requests to her friends and colleagues, asking for money under the pretense of being in trouble.

When her friends grew suspicious and questioned the account handler, the accused reportedly sent messages from the fake account, insulting both the complainant and her friends.

Police Investigation and Suspect Arrested

After receiving the complaint, a case was filed and an inquiry was undertaken.

“A team, during the technical investigation, sought details of the account from the platform, which helped identify two suspects,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said in a statement.

When the complainant saw the profiles, she recognized one of them as Aman, her ex-boyfriend. Police traced his whereabouts to Krishna Nagar and arrested him.

Revenge Motive Confirmed After Arrest

Aman’s telephone and SIM card, which were used during the offence, were confiscated. Under interrogation, Aman, a Class 5 dropout and unemployed, owned up to causing the offence as a revenge after the complainant severed their three-year relationship.

He admitted to posing as her on the internet with the aim of ruining her reputation in the eyes of her friends.

“He created a fake profile to seek money from the victim’s friends. When his attempt failed, he began to abuse and defame the victim,” said the DCP, adding that further investigation is underway.

BJP accused AAP of corruption, while AAP dismissed the claims.
</excerpt>

Delhi Police registered a case late Wednesday after discovering a vehicle labeled “Punjab Government” near Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg. Upon inspection, authorities found cash, liquor, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pamphlets inside the vehicle.

Flying Squad Intercepts Suspicious Vehicle

The Flying Squad, responsible for addressing Model Code of Conduct violations, intercepted the car with a Punjab number plate in New Delhi district. The team investigates election-related complaints, including voter bribery, illicit funds, and illegal distribution of liquor. According to police officials, legal proceedings have been initiated, and a case has been filed at Tilak Marg police station.

Punjab Government Denies Ownership

Contrary to initial assumptions, the Punjab Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) clarified that the vehicle does not belong to the Punjab government. It was registered under Maj. Anubhav Shivpuri, a former officer at the Army Dental College in Pathankot. Furthermore, discrepancies were found in the vehicle registration, as the seized Hyundai Creta’s number plate belonged to a Ford EcoSport registered in 2018. Authorities confirmed that the number plate was fake.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva reacted sharply, claiming ₹10 lakh in cash, liquor bottles, and AAP campaign materials were recovered from the vehicle. He accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of corrupt practices, stating, “First, it was liquor, now money. Kejriwal is losing Delhi elections and is resorting to bribery.”

BJP candidate from Malviya Nagar, Satish Upadhyay, also criticized AAP, alleging that the party aims to buy votes with liquor. Similarly, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal called the incident an exposure of AAP’s “corrupt foundation built on scams and deceit.”

AAP Dismisses Allegations as ‘Hilarious’

AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar refuted the accusations, calling them baseless. She emphasised that the Punjab government had already clarified the vehicle’s forged registration. “The car never entered Punjab Bhavan, and its registered owner is from BJP-ruled Maharashtra, not Delhi,” she said, asserting that BJP is trying to deflect its impending electoral defeat.

High Stakes Before Delhi Elections

The controversy has added to the charged political atmosphere ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections. With counting scheduled for February 8, political tensions continue to rise as both parties trade accusations.

The youth accused officers of targeting him due to his father’s position.
</excerpt>

Delhi Police have registered a case against two individuals for riding a motorcycle with a modified silencer and allegedly misbehaving with on-duty officers. The violators have been fined around ₹20,000 for breaching multiple sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Incident Overview

The incident occurred in Delhi’s Okhla area during a security patrol ahead of Republic Day celebrations. According to police reports, the two youths were riding in an erratic and hazardous manner, producing loud noises with their modified bike silencer while swerving dangerously in a zigzag pattern.

Upon being stopped, one of the individuals allegedly claimed to be the son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan and accused the officers of targeting him due to his father’s political stature.

Police Statement

As per a statement from Delhi Police cited by ANI, “The motorcycle was being ridden recklessly in a zigzag pattern. Upon being stopped, one of the boys identified himself as the son of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and accused the officers of bias. When asked for a driving license and ID, they refused to comply, stating they did not require them.”

The police further stated that one of the individuals called Amanatullah Khan, who spoke with the Station House Officer (SHO). The boys then left without providing their personal details. Their motorcycle was subsequently impounded, and a case was filed under various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Political Reactions

The incident has sparked political controversy, with BJP leader Harish Upadhyay criticizing AAP leaders over the alleged misconduct. “AAP MLAs are involved in extortion and maintaining ties with gangsters. Yesterday, Amanatullah Khan’s son misbehaved with the SHO, asserting his political influence. If anyone has disrupted the law and order of the country, it is AAP,” he remarked.

The case has raised concerns about the enforcement of traffic laws and the alleged misuse of political influence to evade accountability.

</excerpt>

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, unleashed a bitter attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police for supposedly diluting the law and order situation in the city on January 22, 2025. According to Kejriwal, Amit Shah has taken control of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election campaign, and that the law enforcement machinery of Delhi was abetting it.

Delhi Police Allegedly Deployed for BJP Campaign

Arvind Kejriwal said, “Amit Shah has taken charge of the BJP’s election campaign, and the entire Delhi Police force has been pulled out from enforcing law and order in the city. Instead, they are now working to push BJP’s agenda.” The Delhi Chief Minister further accused that police officers are stationed at key election campaign spots to ensure that voters get incentives such as money and sarees, which are being distributed by BJP workers.

दिल्ली चुनाव में इनकी धोखाधड़ी से बात नहीं बनी तो अब बीजेपी खुलेआम गुंडागर्दी पर उतर आई है। https://t.co/4VPlkdzm16

— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) January 22, 2025

According to Kejriwal, the police’s involvement in these activities marks a grave collapse of the National Capital’s law and order situation. He noted that instead of upholding public order, the Delhi Police is being used as a tool for the BJP’s political gain.

Police Allegedly Disrupting AAP Events

Kejriwal has also mentioned that SHOs who are the station house officers, in charge of local police stations, have privately told him that they are receiving instructions from MHA to scuttle the meetings. “Police bring the goons from BJP to attend these programs and let them commit hooliganism”, he alleged with this charge pointing toward the use of law enforcement as an instrument to foment trouble at the AAP gathering sites.

Intimidation and Fear Tactics Against AAP Supporters

In his press statements, Kejriwal underlined the sense of fear that has gripped the city. He charged Delhi Police with threats to AAP workers and supporters to deter them from supporting the party. “An atmosphere of fear has been deliberately created to dissuade people from voting for AAP,” he claimed.

The AAP leader stated his reservations about the coming election, fearing that he said the voters may be stopped from casting their ballots on the day of the polls. “I am scared that on the day of polling, they will not let people vote,” Kejriwal added while demanding a transparent and fair process of the election.

The elections being close, AAP and BJP continue to flare up against each other by leveling charges of unfair practices and interference.

</excerpt>

Amid tensions in Bangladesh, the cross-border infiltration seems to have increased. To counter the same, the West Bengal police have told other investigative agencies about the shortcomings in the passport system, an official said on Sunday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar said that West Bengal has fought with left and right-wing extremism and they will do it again to combat the illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.

“We want to assure all the people of West Bengal that we, the West Bengal Police are a very professional police force. In the past as well we have seen that we fought with left and right-wing extremism very well. We will do it again. We are keeping an eye on Bangladesh. We have told other agencies about the shortcomings in the passport system and we are changing our own things,” West Bengal DGP Kumar said.

To address rising concerns over the unauthorized stay of migrants including Bangladeshi nationals in the capital, the Delhi Police has intensified efforts to identify, detain and repatriate individuals residing without valid Indian documents. The police said that as part of the drive eight illegal migrants from Bangladesh were detected and deported to their country through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

The Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Jahangir, his wife Parina Begam and their six children. All were residing at Rangpuri.

Six Bangladeshi women were detained at Tripura’s Agartala railway station for illegal entry into India, officials said on Friday. Acting on confidential information, a joint operation by Agartala GRPS, RPF, BSF, and intelligence agencies led to the detention of six individuals, including four Bangladeshi nationals (three women and one man) and two Indian agents (one man and one woman), at Agartala Railway Station on Friday morning.

The detained individuals allegedly entered India illegally from Bangladesh and were preparing to board a train to travel to other states. During initial interrogation, the detainees revealed plans to travel to Kolkata.

The arrest follows the release of an alleged audio clip by BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, in which Balyan is reportedly heard discussing extortion with gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu. The clip reportedly involves a conversation about demanding money from a businessman.

This development comes amidst heightened political tensions, as AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal was recently attacked during a padyatra in Delhi, where an unidentified man threw a liquid substance at him. The AAP has accused the BJP of being behind the incident.

Naresh Balyan’s arrest marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tussle between the AAP and BJP in Delhi’s political landscape.

</excerpt>

Delhi Police used Artificial Intelligence to track down and arrest a masked mobile snatcher who stole a woman’s mobile in North Delhi, officials revealed on Tuesday.

Afnan Ali was caught on CCTV committing the crime, but the face remains unrevealed due to a mask.

The incident was reported on November 24 when the complainant informed the police that her mobile phone was snatched near Tyre Market. She said an unidentified person approached her from behind and grabbed her phone and left the spot toward Gali Tyre Wali in Sadar Bazar, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia.

A case was registered and a team was formed to trace the culprit. CCTV footage showed that the accused fled from the scene, but it couldn’t be confirmed as his face was covered with a mask.

At this stage, the technically strong team of investigators used Artificial Intelligence technique to virtually lift the mask off the screengrab of the CCTV footage video. His mask was lifted with the help of AI techniques, and a blurred picture of the accused was extracted,” said Banthia.

With technical surveillance, the accused was identified as Afnan Ali, who resides in Sadar Bazar. Police investigated the case further and apprehended him during a raid, and the stolen mobile phone as well as the clothes he wore during the incident were recovered.

During investigation, it is found that Ali was recently let out from Tihar Jail for merely seven days before the incident and resumed his illegitimate activities.

</excerpt>

Gulfisha Fatima, Abdul Khalid Saifi, and others accused in the Delhi Riots conspiracy case actively pressed for bail in the Delhi High Court. They cited prolonged detention and parity with previously released individuals as key arguments.

Court Hears Partial Arguments

Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur reviewed arguments from the defense lawyers of Gulfisha Fatima, Abdul Khalid Saifi, Shifa Ur Rehman, and others. The lawyers focused on their extended custody and sought bail on the grounds of parity. The court scheduled further hearings on December 6 for most pleas, while Sharjeel Imam’s plea will be addressed on December 12.

Gulfisha Fatima Demands Parity

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Gulfisha Fatima, argued for bail based on her extended incarceration and similarity to Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita’s cases. Both were granted bail earlier. “There is nothing on record regarding the actual involvement in riots,” Sibal asserted. He also emphasized that Fatima has spent 4.5 years in custody, making her bail plea urgent.

Abdul Khalid Saifi Challenges Delays

Rebecca John, appearing for Abdul Khalid Saifi, accused the Delhi Police of causing delays by filing multiple charge sheets. She highlighted that Saifi was discharged in a separate riots case in 2020 without any appeal against that decision.

John pointed out that Saifi allegedly organized the Khureji protest site, which did not witness violence. “Khureji protest site was not the site of violence,” she stated. She also stressed that no weapons were recovered from Saifi and that police had brutally beaten him during custody.

She compared Saifi’s role to others like Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita, and Asif Iqbal Tanha, who had already secured bail.

Shifa Ur Rehman Refutes Allegations

Senior advocate Salman Khurshid defended Shifa Ur Rehman, the former president of Jamia Millia University’s Alumni Association. He argued that Rehman’s only involvement was as part of the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC). He denied claims of Rehman attending meetings or aiding the conspiracy.

“Asif and Devangana are on bail. Asif was a member of JCC. Shifa was a member of JCC. He was added being president of Alumni but had no right to participate,” Khurshid explained. He further clarified that investigators found no evidence linking Rehman to a money trail or supplying SIM cards to others.

Additional Accused Seek Bail

Mohd. Saleem Khan’s lawyer argued that his client had received interim bail three times and posed no threat to witnesses. Allegations of tampering with a camera during the protests are part of a separate FIR, the lawyer said.

Defense Criticizes Delayed Trials

Defense lawyers accused the police of intentionally delaying trials by repeatedly filing supplementary charge sheets. They claimed the delay infringed on the accused’s right to bail and a speedy trial. “Any accused in custody gains nothing from delaying the trial,” a senior advocate argued.

Police Highlight Conspiracy’s Severity

Delhi Police accused the defendants of orchestrating the 2020 riots, which killed 53 people and injured hundreds. They referenced 897 prosecution witnesses and multiple charge sheets to emphasize the case’s gravity.

Court to Decide

The court acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations but noted that many claims require trial verification. Further hearings will determine if the accused will receive bail.

</excerpt>

In a tragic incident in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, a woman allegedly strangled her five-year-old daughter to death after the child became an obstacle in her desire to marry a man she befriended on Instagram. The shocking crime came to light on Friday when Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital informed the police about a child who had been brought dead to their facility. Upon closer inspection, authorities discovered strangulation marks on the child’s neck, leading to an immediate investigation.

Mother Confesses to the Heinous Crime

After a thorough interrogation, the woman broke down and confessed to killing her daughter. During questioning, she revealed that after her first husband left her, she met a man named Rahul on Instagram. Determined to marry him, she moved to Delhi, but Rahul and his family rejected her child, refusing to accept the girl. Unable to cope with the rejection, the woman allegedly strangled her daughter in a fit of frustration.

Shocking Revelations of Abuse and Trauma

Further investigation revealed a history of abuse. The woman disclosed that before relocating to Delhi, she had been living with her child at a relative’s house in Himachal Pradesh, where her daughter had been sexually assaulted by the relative. These revelations have prompted the police to register multiple charges, including those under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The woman remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

A Similar Incident in Bihar

This tragic incident in Delhi mirrors a similar case that occurred in Bihar earlier this year. In August, a 26-year-old woman in Muzaffarpur allegedly murdered her three-year-old daughter to pave the way for her marriage to her lover. Inspired by a crime TV show, the woman slit her daughter’s throat and discarded the body in a field, where it was later found. The woman was arrested and charged, with her lover cleared of any involvement.

The Delhi case has sparked outrage, raising concerns over the safety of children and the psychological toll that domestic and emotional struggles can have on vulnerable individuals. Authorities are continuing to investigate both the mother’s act.

Delhi Police carried out vehicle checks on Tuesday night. They aimed to enforce Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). This stage bans Delhi-registered BS-IV and older diesel medium and heavy goods vehicles. However, vehicles providing essential services are exempt.

GRAP Stage IV Launched to Tackle Pollution

Authorities activated GRAP Stage IV at 8:00 AM on November 18. They took this step due to worsening air quality in Delhi and NCR. The plan aims to combat severe pollution during critical times.

Gopal Rai Pushes for Cloud Seeding

On Tuesday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai took action. He wrote to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, urging an emergency meeting. Rai suggested including the Delhi Government, IIT Kanpur, and central departments like the DGCA, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Defence. He stressed the need for immediate implementation of cloud seeding to tackle pollution.

Rai explained:
“The time has come to carry out artificial rainfall to break the smog layer. Last year, the Delhi Government, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, explored cloud seeding as an emergency measure to induce rain and reduce air pollution during critical periods. This year, we began preparations in August for cloud seeding, but despite several requests, a meeting has not yet been held.”

He emphasized breaking the smog layer as a priority.
“We are continuously working on this. We have banned BS-III petrol four-wheelers and BS-IV diesel vehicles. All trucks and diesel buses coming from outside Delhi have also been banned. Schools for Classes 10 and 12 have been closed. Office timings have been staggered. Regarding work-from-home measures, we are deliberating and will take a decision soon. We are implementing everything within our capacity and will continue to do so. Breaking the smog layer is critical,” he added.

Supreme Court Demands Strict Implementation

On Monday, the Supreme Court directed strict enforcement of GRAP Stage IV. The bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih ordered immediate action. It told Delhi and NCR states to form monitoring teams. These teams will ensure full compliance with GRAP measures.

The court also made a key ruling. It stated GRAP Stage IV measures must stay in effect even if the AQI drops below 450. Moreover, the court directed all NCR states and the central government to submit compliance affidavits.

Delhi Government Takes Additional Steps

The Delhi Government has already taken several measures. It banned older diesel vehicles and restricted incoming trucks and buses. Schools for Classes 10 and 12 remain closed. Office timings have been staggered, and work-from-home options are under consideration.

These actions highlight the urgency of addressing Delhi’s severe pollution crisis. Authorities continue to implement solutions to protect public health and reduce smog.

</excerpt>

Delhi Police Special Cell arrested a sharp shooter of the notorious Tillu Tajpuriya- Devendra Bambhia gang after a brief exchange of fire in Delhi’s Rohini area on Wednesday night. According to the police, the arrested accused named ‘Nihaal’ was involved in the recent Mundka murder case where a man was shot dead by assailants in the city’s outer area.
Deceased Amit Lakra, a 26-year-old who was recently released on bail was killed by bike-borne assailants on November 9. The responsibility of this murder was taken by rival Tillu Tajpuriya- Devender Bambiha gang through a social media post.
Following this, the special cell vigorously analyzed CCTV footages, technical data, and gathered manual inputs to trace the shooters involved. Acting upon an intelligence tip, the team laid a trap near UER -II road adjacent to Kheda Canal, Shahbad Dairy area.
“At around 9 PM, the police team spotted the suspect riding a scooty and signaled him to stop. However, upon seeing the police, the suspect attempted to flee, but the scooty slipped, bringing him to a halt. The police quickly surrounded the suspect and ordered him to surrender. In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, the suspect pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the police team”, said Special Cell in a statement.
“In retaliation and self-defense, the police team fired upon him and in the process the suspect was injured. The suspect was swiftly overpowered and apprehended. The injured accused was immediately taken to Hospital for medical treatment. No police personnel were injured in the exchange”, it added.
The police team recovered a semi-automatic pistol and four live cartridges from the suspect and seized his scooty.
On verification, it was found that the scooty was stolen from Sultanpuri area in November 2024. The accused has been identified as Nihal son Lal Chand, age 22 years resident of Pratap Nagar, Khijrabad, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana
During interrogation, Nihal confessed to his involvement in the shooting of Amit Lakra at Mundka and his affiliation with the Tillu Tajpuria gang.
It is pertinent to note here that Amit Lakra who was killed on November 9 was a member of the Gogi gang.
The rivalry between the Jitender Gogi and Tajpuriya gangs dates back to 2010. Over the years, their conflict has led to several killings, highlighting the severity of their feud.
Gogi was shot dead inside a Rohini court in 2020, allegedly orchestrated by Tajpuria, who was incarcerated at the time while Tajpuria was stabbed to death last year in August inside Tihar jail.

On November 4, Mogli and his associates targeted business establishments in both locations, leading to police recovering multiple firearms from their possession.

According to the Special Cell’s statement, “On 4.11.24, two separate incidents of gunfire occurred at Shree Lakshmi Plywood in Nangloi and the office of Goel Properties in Alipur. These incidents were reported under FIR No. 760/24 in PS Nangloi and FIR No. 699/24 in PS Alipur.” The FIRs included charges related to attempted murder and violations under the Arms Act.

The investigation was assigned to the Special Cell, which utilized CCTV footage and human intelligence to identify Mogli as one of the shooters. Police learned he would be near Khera Canal in the Shahbad Dairy area on November 13. A raid was carried out, and when Mogli approached on a motorcycle, officers attempted to stop him. Mogli lost control of the bike, fell, and then fired at the police. In self-defense, officers returned fire, injuring him in the left leg. He was apprehended and taken to the hospital.

During the raid, police recovered several items from Mogli, including a semi-automatic .32 caliber pistol, a country-made pistol, and a stolen motorcycle. Mogli, who has been involved in at least 10 previous criminal cases, is currently under investigation. The crime team, FSL, and PCR were called to the scene for further inquiries.

As many as 377 teams of Delhi Police and government officials have been put in place to ensure that there is a blanket ban on the sale and usage of firecrackers during Diwali.

Legal action would be taken against those caught bursting crackers during the festival, said a senior police officer while speaking to PTI. Officers would also be in plain clothes to ensure the ban is complied with. The Delhi government had on October 14 imposed the prohibition, banning the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers till January 1.

The city has been on a high alert since 20 October after a blast that damaged property near CRPF school in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar area, though nobody got injured. Police personnel would be present in greater number at crowded markets where celebrations for Diwali were scheduled, including Chandni Chowk, Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Greater Kailash, Azadpur, and Ghazipur.

Security arrangements have been made especially in markets, malls, vital installations and crowded places. Police visibility has been enhanced through intensified patrolling and deployments of extra pickets. All staff are on high alert to thwart any untoward incident,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta said.

North District DCP Raja Banthia said, “Police staff has been taking all preventive measures so that these festivals will go on without hitch.” Border area movements too are monitored by the police.

Watchful eyes are everywhere at each railway and metro station with the deployment of additional forces to detect the slightest acts of suspicious nature. Both Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) in their patrolling teams are directed to send reports directly on any doubtful behavior of commuters.
“Regular anti-sabotage checks are done on the tracks and inside the markets with dog squads and bomb disposal teams,” stated the officer.

“CCTV cameras are being continuously monitored by the teams, and PCRs were asked to be ready for any situation,” another officer added. New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla affirmed that the teams are well-prepared for any scenario, having undergone various mock drills.

</excerpt>

Delhi Police are facing scrutiny after it took six months to file a kidnapping FIR following a missing report for a boy last seen on January 10, 2024, in Bhajanpura, Delhi. The delay was revealed in a status report submitted to the Delhi High Court, which is currently handling a habeas corpus petition filed by the boy’s mother.

Legal Proceedings and Investigative Challenges

Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Amit Sharma are presiding over the petition, filed by Shabnam, the boy’s mother, who reported her son missing soon after his disappearance. However, a formal kidnapping FIR under Section 365 of the IPC was not registered until June 29, 2024. The initial investigation was assigned to HC Sonu, later transferred to SI Kunal on July 3.

Delhi Police filed multiple status reports, including a recent one noting they found the boy using an Instagram account under the user ID “shabanashabana8032.” Despite submitting requests for information to Instagram (Meta Platforms Inc.), no response had been received as of September 2024.

During a recent hearing, the High Court acknowledged that Meta Platforms had informed the Delhi Police about information available on its law enforcement platform. The police are seeking details such as the phone number, IP address, and IMEI of the device associated with the account. Meta confirmed receipt of the request, while a nodal officer from the Ministry of Home Affairs highlighted challenges in cooperating with social media platforms.

High Court’s Concern over Police Efficiency

In July, the Delhi High Court emphasized that the first 24 hours after a disappearance are critical for recovering missing persons, especially minors. The current case raises concerns about Delhi Police’s efficiency in handling such cases, sparking discussions on necessary improvements in investigative protocols and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and social media companies.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Police are investigating a significant explosion that occurred near a CRPF school in Rohini. They have reached out to the social media platform Telegram in search of information regarding a user account named “Justice League India,” according to reports from the news agency.

Blast Details and Claims

Shortly after the explosion, a post from the Justice League India account, which featured a video of the incident with a “Khalistan Zindabad” watermark, began circulating widely on social media. The post read, “If Indian coward agency and their master think they can hire filthy goons to target our members to silence our voice, then they live in fools’ world. They can’t imagine how close we are to them and how capable we are to strike anytime. #KhalistanZindabad #JLI.”

Witnesses reported that thick smoke rose from the blast site, which damaged a school wall, shattered windows of nearby shops, and impacted several parked vehicles. The explosion was heard from several hundred meters away.

Authorities believe the bomb was planted overnight, with the blast occurring between 7:35 and 7:40 a.m., based on accounts from local residents.

Residents’ Reactions

Residents described the explosion as “intense,” noting a lingering foul odor in the area afterward. Anita Singh, a local resident, recounted her experience: “I had just returned from a temple when I heard the very loud explosion. I felt vibrations in my house, as if a cylinder had exploded nearby. Thankfully, it was Sunday, so no one was hurt. I can’t help but think how disastrous it could have been if it had occurred on a weekday.”

Investigation and Evidence Collection

In response to the explosion, teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Security Guard (NSG) were deployed to inspect the scene and collect evidence. The police have initiated a case under relevant sections for “mischief through explosion” as well as the Explosives Act.

NSG commandos utilized robots to search for additional explosive materials in the area. Samples of a “white powder” and soil from the site were sent to a laboratory for analysis to determine the composition of the bomb. A senior police officer suggested that the white powder might be a mixture of ammonium nitrate and chloride, indicating that the perpetrator may have deliberately chosen the location to avoid harming anyone, aiming instead to convey a message.

In an earlier drug bust, the Special Cell of Delhi Police seized 562 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana during a raid on October 1 at a warehouse belonging to Tushar Goyal in Mahipalpur.

The suspects—Ashish, Sikander Thakur, Kulwant, and Nareh Kumar—were involved in Mahatma’s operations, which allegedly ran under the cover of an apple business for five to six years. Mahatma, arrested in September 2024, reportedly had connections with Nigerian and other drug gangs. Police revealed that he avoided direct contact with his associates.
A Remote Radio Unit (RRU), also known as a Remote Radio Head (RRH), is a vital component of wireless base stations that enables communication between wireless devices and networks. Its main function is to convert digital signals from the base station into radio frequency (RF) signals for wireless transmission.

“We received information from a secret informer about an interstate gang involved in RRU thefts,” said a senior Delhi Police official.

“Our team analyzed data from FIRs filed in Delhi-NCR and other states, and used technical expertise and artificial intelligence to track down the gang,” he added.

Officials explained that a police trap was set near Pandav Nagar, where three suspects were apprehended. The suspects were identified as Adil (25), Sadiq (21), and Adnan (22), all residents of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

“One of them was found carrying a stolen RRU, which had been reported stolen in a case registered at Karawal Nagar Police Station in Northeast Delhi,” officials said.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing RRUs from mobile towers in various states.

Police later recovered 126 RRUs from a warehouse in Pandav Nagar, with 43 units confirmed stolen from different police jurisdictions, including 16 from Delhi, 1 from Uttar Pradesh, 20 from Assam, 2 from Bihar, 2 from Jharkhand, and 2 from West Bengal.

“The gang had accumulated the stolen RRUs to export them abroad,” officials noted. “Further investigations are underway to trace the source of the recovered RRUs and to identify other people or groups involved in the plan to export them,” they added.

Police also recovered toolkits used by the gang to dismantle the RRUs from mobile towers.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Police’s IFSO wing has summoned Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty in connection with a fraudulent app-based scam that defrauded people of ₹500 crore. She has been asked to appear for questioning on October 9.

Similarly, comedian Bharti Singh and YouTuber Elvish Yadav have also received notices from the Delhi Police.

According to DCP (IFSO) Hemant Tiwari, over 127 complaints were filed alleging that several influencers and YouTubers promoted the mobile app HIBOX on their platforms, encouraging people to invest. The app was part of a scam, promising daily returns between one to five percent, translating to a monthly yield of 30% to 90%.

App’s Launch and Investor Experience

Launched in February, HIBOX initially delivered solid returns to investors. However, by July, it halted payments, citing technical difficulties and legal issues. “Over 30,000 individuals invested in this application,” stated the DCP.

Notices have also been sent to influencers like Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan, Purav Jha, Harsh Limbachiya, Lakshay Choudhary, Adarsh Singh, and Amit and Dilraj Singh Rawat. The main accused, Sivaram from Chennai, has been arrested, and ₹18 crore has been seized from his accounts.

Investigation into Financial Institutions

Authorities are examining the roles of Easebuzz and PhonePe, as these merchant accounts were reportedly used by the fraudsters. The police are also looking into the involvement of their employees due to lapses in verification and non-compliance with RBI guidelines.

Additionally, 20 other companies linked to HIBOX are being scrutinized for potential money laundering activities. This case underscores the dangers of following influencer endorsements without due diligence and highlights the need for caution when investing in unfamiliar schemes.

Justice Prathiba M. Singh, who is presiding over the case, expressed concern over the recurring nature of such incidents, noting that a similar tragedy occurred last year.

Mahant and Police Ordered to Submit Reports

Justice Singh has directed Mahant Surendra Nath to submit a detailed report on the measures taken to manage the Navratri event and ensure crowd safety. Additionally, the Delhi Police has been asked to provide a status report on the circumstances leading to the teenager’s death.

The court expressed concern over the fact that there is currently no administrator overseeing the temple, despite redevelopment work being underway. It was noted that the court-appointed administrator had not been paid remuneration, and no replacement had been made. The Mahant, acting as the baridar (traditional custodian), has now been tasked with reporting on the crowd management efforts.

The High Court also directed the standing counsel to file a status report ahead of a hearing scheduled for Monday. The court emphasized the need for proper event management at the temple, citing repeated incidents that have occurred in recent years.

A fourth suspect, Bharat Jain from Kurla West, Mumbai, has also been arrested.

Kushwaha revealed that the police recovered around 15 kg of cocaine from the personal possession of Goyal and his associates. The drugs were seized as the suspects exited a godown in Mahipalpur Extension, where they were preparing to deliver the supply to a receiver. Additional quantities of marijuana and cocaine were found in the godown.

International Links and Investigation

The investigation has unveiled potential international connections. “The forward and backward linkages point to a Middle Eastern country—a major handler can be seen,” Kushwaha stated.

The estimated value of the seized cocaine is Rs 2,000 crore in the international market, making this bust a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

The investigation into the syndicate is ongoing, with authorities probing deeper into the network’s international ties and handlers.

In a recent post, the Delhi Police featured Ganji Chudail donning a helmet, accompanied by the catchy caption: “Mujhse nahi, chot se daro! The post emphasized the importance of helmet usage while riding, stating, “Sabko helmet pehnate hain Delhi Police wale,” which translates to “Delhi Police makes everyone wear helmets.”

The Rise of Ganji Chudail

Ganji Chudail, a quirky character based on an evil bald witch, originated from the YouTube channel Majedar Kahani, which creates animated stories for children. The character quickly gained traction as a popular internet meme, resonating with audiences due to its bizarre and relatable antics. This meme’s appeal has even attracted the attention of major brands like Netflix, Swiggy, and Nykaa, which have incorporated the character into their advertising campaigns. Recently, the creators of the horror-comedy film Stree 2 utilized Ganji Chudail to promote their movie.

Public Reaction

The Delhi Police’s clever use of this meme was met with delight from social media users, who appreciated the relatable approach to a serious message. Many commented on the post, praising the creativity behind the initiative.

“Ganji chudail is not so ganji (bald) anymore,” quipped one user. Another chimed in, suggesting that the Delhi Police should rename themselves the “meme police” for their “epic” content. One enthusiastic follower declared, “Delhi police dil ki police,” while another remarked, “Delhi police is on a roll.”

In a bizarre turn of events, a 32-year-old woman has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth lakhs from a well-known social media influencer. The woman was apprehended from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, along with her husband, and police recovered 100 grams of gold ornaments from her residence in Haryana, according to an officer on Thursday.

The Crime Unfolds: Influencer Robbed by a ‘Fan’

The case came to light when the influencer approached the police with an unusual complaint. He alleged that a woman, posing as a fan on social media, had robbed him during a photoshoot.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan, the incident occurred on September 18 when the woman insisted on meeting the influencer, requesting to take photos and videos with his expensive gold jewellery. The influencer, eager to oblige his fan, invited her to his office in Chattarpur, South Delhi.

During the meeting, the woman asked him to wear his gold jewellery and pose for pictures. While the influencer complied, the woman saw an opportunity when he got busy on a phone call. She quickly fled the scene, taking with her 100 grams of the influencer’s gold ornaments.

CCTV Leads to Arrest in Manali

The police launched an investigation immediately after the influencer reported the theft. Officers reviewed CCTV footage and managed to trace the woman’s location to Manali, Himachal Pradesh. A team was dispatched to apprehend the suspect and her husband. Upon searching her residence in Jhajjar, Haryana, the police recovered the stolen gold ornaments.

The woman is currently in police custody, and further investigation into the matter is underway, according to the DCP.

Other Cases of Crimes Involving Social Media Aspirants

In a separate but somewhat related incident, a 26-year-old man with aspirations of becoming a social media influencer was arrested for committing a string of burglaries in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area between June 5 and August 26. Identified as Vivek Kumar Gupta, he was arrested along with his associate, Vikhyat Sharma, 22, after committing at least six burglaries.

Police recovered 12 expensive imported watches, seven bottles of perfume, and three pairs of sunglasses—all items that were purchased with the proceeds from the burglaries. Investigators painstakingly analyzed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, which ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

The Rise of Social Media Crime

The two cases highlight the darker side of the rapidly growing world of social media influencers, where the desire for fame and wealth can sometimes result in criminal activity. Both incidents serve as a reminder that not everything is as glamorous as it seems in the digital realm.

</excerpt>

On September 2, Sandeep from Haryana was apprehended at Delhi airport while trying to board a flight to Italy with a counterfeit Swedish visa. During interrogation, Sandeep disclosed that many from his village had traveled abroad using similar fake visas. His information led to the exposure of a visa forgery ring operating in Delhi for the past five years, which had produced 4,000 to 5,000 fake visas and amassed ₹300 crore.

Sandeep had purchased the fake visa from an agent named Asif Ali for ₹10 lakh. Consequently, police arrested Asif Ali along with his associates Shiva Gautam and Naveen Rana. Gautam then named two additional agents, Balbir Singh and Jaswinder Singh, who were also arrested. Further investigation revealed that fake visas were being manufactured at a factory in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, run by Manoj Monga, a graphic design diploma holder.

The factory, which Monga set up with equipment provided by Jaideep Singh, produced 30-60 fake visas monthly and could create a visa sticker in just 20 minutes. Each counterfeit visa was sold for ₹8-10 lakh. The operation used Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp for coordination, with a network of local agents assisting clients seeking overseas jobs.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGI Airport, Usha Rangrani, reported that six individuals have been arrested so far. Authorities recovered 16 Nepali passports, two Indian passports, 30 visa stickers, 23 visa stamps, and various equipment including dye machines, printers, laminating sheets, laptops, and UV machines during the raid.

Singh, a resident of Bihar’s Jamui district and currently living in Rohini, Delhi, was apprehended in Haryana’s Jind district on Saturday.

According to Kota City Superintendent of Police (SP) Amrita Duhan, Singh was also wanted by Kota police in a separate case involving forged documents. He had rented premises from Messrs Om Kothari Foundation in Kota in 2020 to conduct an online examination.
