Her partner, who fled the scene, was arrested within hours and confessed.
</excerpt>

A 29-year-old woman was found dead in a hotel bathroom in Delhi’s Paharganj area on Sunday morning, leading to the arrest of her partner within two hours. The incident occurred at a hotel on Arakashan Road in the Nabi Karim area of Central Delhi.

Couple Checked In, Woman Found Dead Next Morning

According to police, a PCR call was received at 9:47 am from a hotel staff member, reporting that a woman was found lying unresponsive in the bathroom while her male companion was missing. “The couple had checked in on Saturday at 4:15 pm,” said Nidhin Valsan, DCP, Central. “They ordered pizza and lassi around 6 pm, which was delivered to their room.”

As per the identification documents provided during check-in, the couple were identified as Sachin (31) and Sarika (29). Sachin could be seen leaving the hotel premises alone early in the morning through the CCTV footage, sparking immediate suspicion.
Police rushed to the scene, and their crime unit conducted a thorough investigation. Photographs were taken, and all possible evidence was collected. The woman’s body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Accused Confesses After Arrest

“Preliminary findings suggest the woman was strangled with a drawstring,” added DCP Valsan. A case of murder was registered, and the accused was soon located and taken into custody.

During questioning, Sachin told the police that he and Sarika were in a relationship, but he suspected she was involved with someone else. According to police, “They quarreled over the matter, and during the altercation, he beat her and then allegedly strangled her to death.”

Authorities are continuing the investigation to confirm the sequence of events and ensure justice for the victim. The investigation is ongoing, but it is important to bring justice to the victim so that other such cases do not happen in the future.

A case under murder charges has been filed, and a chargesheet will be submitted soon.
</excerpt>

A 24-year-old woman from Delhi was found dead in a suitcase last week in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district. On Friday, police arrested her 29-year-old friend for allegedly murdering her.

According to the police, the accused is Satendra Yadav, a resident of Vinod Nagar, Delhi. Reportedly, he worked at a private real estate firm. Authorities said they recovered two mobile phones, a car, the woman’s bank passbook, and her Aadhaar card from his possession.

Details About The Victim

The victim, Neelesh, lived in Trilokpuri, Delhi, and worked with a private company. On May 30, her decomposed body was found stuffed in a suitcase near a canal in Sikheda village, under Pilkhuwa police station limits.
“The woman was a resident of Trilokpuri in Delhi,” said Station House Officer PatniashKumar. “Her body was discovered in a decomposed state with visible marks indicating strangulation.”

Yadav told the police that he had been in a relationship with Neelesh for over three years. During this time, she had reportedly given him Rs 5.25 lakh. Last October, she was diagnosed with a kidney disease and admitted to Dharamshila Hospital in Delhi.
“Yadav used to meet Neelesh at the hospital regularly. However, tensions developed in their relationship last year when Yadav took a trip to Patiala… and he suspected Neelesh of being involved with someone else. He claimed that her phone was frequently busy and attempts to check it were blocked by a phone lock,” Kumar added.

Details About The Incident

Police said Neelesh visited Yadav on May 28 to demand her money back. In a fit of rage, he allegedly strangled her with her scarf.
“He then stuffed her body into a suitcase… Later that night, he drove to the Sikheda canal road, a route he frequently used to avoid toll taxes, and dumped the suitcase,” a police officer said.

“We recovered the vehicle used in the crime, along with documents, a mobile phone, and other evidence. CCTV footage also supports the sequence of events described by the accused,” added SP Hapur, Kunwar Gyananjay Singh.

</excerpt>

Delhi High Court on Tuesday gave order that victims of rape, acid attacks, sexual assaults, and survivors of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases are entitled to free medical treatment at government and private hospitals, as well as nursing homes.

A division bench comprising Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Amit Sharma ruled that all Central and State Government-funded institutions, as well as private hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes, must comply with the directive to ensure that survivors of rape, acid attacks, and POCSO cases receive immediate medical care and necessary services.

The Court clarified that “treatment” includes first aid, diagnosis, inpatient care, outpatient follow-ups, diagnostic and laboratory tests, surgeries if needed, physical and mental counselling, psychological support, and family counselling.

The Court noted that a significant number of rape and POCSO cases regularly come before the judiciary. Survivors in these cases often require urgent medical intervention or prolonged medical assistance, including hospital admission, diagnostics, surgical procedures, medications, and counselling services.

Despite existing provisions under the BNSS or CrPC, as well as guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the Court observed that survivors of sexual violence and acid attacks continue to face challenges in accessing free medical treatment.

The Court issued several key directives, including the circulation of its ruling to all courts dealing with sexual offences, such as POCSO Courts, Criminal Courts, and Family Courts.

The directive aims to ensure that all victims and survivors, in accordance with Section 397 of the BNS (Section 357C of the CrPC), are informed of their legal rights. The Court also mandated that appropriate steps be taken to refer such cases to the relevant medical establishments–whether public, government, or private–whenever courts encounter cases requiring medical assistance for victims or survivors.

Gangs and gangsters are now active, demanding ransom money for protection,” Bhardwaj said.
</excerpt>

Recently, the Delhi government, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been targetting the the Bharatiya Janata Party for rising crimes in Delhi. On Monday, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital, stating that gangs and gangsters have become increasingly active, demanding ransom money for protection.

According to Bhardwaj this situation in Delhi is unprecedented. He remarked that nowadays, a woman cannot even walk in her own colony, and a person cannot park their vehicle outside their house without fearing theft.

The minister emphasised that this issue affects the public directly and that residents of Delhi expect an explanation from the Union Home Minister.

“Today in Delhi, a woman holding a phone in her hand cannot walk in her colony without fearing it will be snatched. A person cannot park their vehicle outside their house without worrying it will be stolen. Delhi has moved beyond petty crimes. Gangs and gangsters are now active, demanding ransom money for protection,” Bhardwaj said.

“This is unprecedented in Delhi. This is not an election issue but a public concern, and the people of Delhi demand answers from the Union Home Minister,” he added.

Earlier in the day, AAP leader Manish Sisodia also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its handling of law and order in Delhi.

Sisodia noted that while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had successfully addressed key issues such as schools, electricity, and hospitals, the law and order situation under Home Minister Amit Shah’s leadership had deteriorated.

“The people of Delhi entrusted Kejriwal ji with responsibilities such as improving schools, electricity, and hospitals. He delivered–government hospitals are better, there is a 24-hour power supply, zero electricity bills, and government schools are performing fantastically. On the other hand, the responsibility for law and order was given to Amit Shah and the BJP,” Sisodia said.

“But what has happened under his watch? Law and order have worsened–murders and shootouts are taking place. People feel that Amit Shah is unable to handle the situation,” he added.

Also read: Two Groups Clash In Gurugram, Car Set On Fire| Video

Sisodia further claimed that the people of Delhi are increasingly frustrated with the BJP’s failure to address these issues. “In this election, the people are sending a warning to Amit Shah–either improve law and order, or they will know how to address it themselves,” he added.

</excerpt>

In a tragic incident in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, a woman allegedly strangled her five-year-old daughter to death after the child became an obstacle in her desire to marry a man she befriended on Instagram. The shocking crime came to light on Friday when Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital informed the police about a child who had been brought dead to their facility. Upon closer inspection, authorities discovered strangulation marks on the child’s neck, leading to an immediate investigation.

Mother Confesses to the Heinous Crime

After a thorough interrogation, the woman broke down and confessed to killing her daughter. During questioning, she revealed that after her first husband left her, she met a man named Rahul on Instagram. Determined to marry him, she moved to Delhi, but Rahul and his family rejected her child, refusing to accept the girl. Unable to cope with the rejection, the woman allegedly strangled her daughter in a fit of frustration.

Shocking Revelations of Abuse and Trauma

Further investigation revealed a history of abuse. The woman disclosed that before relocating to Delhi, she had been living with her child at a relative’s house in Himachal Pradesh, where her daughter had been sexually assaulted by the relative. These revelations have prompted the police to register multiple charges, including those under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The woman remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

A Similar Incident in Bihar

This tragic incident in Delhi mirrors a similar case that occurred in Bihar earlier this year. In August, a 26-year-old woman in Muzaffarpur allegedly murdered her three-year-old daughter to pave the way for her marriage to her lover. Inspired by a crime TV show, the woman slit her daughter’s throat and discarded the body in a field, where it was later found. The woman was arrested and charged, with her lover cleared of any involvement.

The Delhi case has sparked outrage, raising concerns over the safety of children and the psychological toll that domestic and emotional struggles can have on vulnerable individuals. Authorities are continuing to investigate both the mother’s act.

</excerpt>

In a tragic road rage incident in Delhi’s Nangloi area on September 29, 2024, a 30-year-old Delhi Police constable named Sandeep lost his life after being dragged by a speeding car for nearly 10 meters. The incident occurred during the early morning hours while Sandeep was on patrol duty in civilian clothes to monitor burglary activities in the area. He noticed a car driving recklessly and signalled the driver to slow down. However, instead of complying, the driver struck Sandeep’s motorcycle from behind and dragged him along the road before he collided with another vehicle. This horrific incident led to Sandeep’s death from severe head injuries.

The police arrested one of the accused, Rajnish alias Sittu, from Noida. He was in the car at the time of the incident but was not the driver. The actual driver, who is believed to have committed the crime, remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to track him down. Multiple raids have been conducted in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana to locate the fugitive.

The Delhi Police have seized the car involved in the crime, and CCTV footage from the area has provided crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. The video captured the moments leading up to the incident, helping authorities establish the sequence of events.

The death of Constable Sandeep has not only shocked his colleagues but also the entire community. A Guard of Honour ceremony was held in his village, Madina, in Haryana’s Sonipat district, where the Delhi Police paid tribute to his unwavering dedication to duty. Sandeep is survived by his wife, mother, and a five-year-old son.

Meanwhile, the case took a new turn when the habeas corpus petition was filed in the Delhi High Court. The petition claims that the wife of one of the accused had been detained illegally by the police, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation. The legality of this detention will be examined in a court hearing scheduled for October 1.
This tragic incident highlights the growing menace of road rage and reckless driving in the city. As Delhi Police continue their search for the main accused, the incident has sparked widespread calls for stricter road safety regulations and more responsible driving in the national capital.

</excerpt>

NEW DELHI: In the past week, Delhi Police has registered over 200 FIRs under a new section in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita specifically for thefts who deals with vehicles, the punishment for vehicle theft now increased to seven years, police officers are acting quickly to implement it. They visit the theft location immediately after the crime is reported, film the scene, and upload their reports on the police app as a e-pramaan.

Last week, it was reported that vehicle theft FIRs would be filed under Section 305-B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Previously, vehicle theft was treated as ‘theft’ under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code, which had a maximum punishment of three years. A few years back, police launched an app for registering vehicle theft cases as E-FIRs, allowing people to get an unfound report within about 30 days to claim insurance. However, this system stopped immediate investigations, leading to rise in theft cases.

With the help of new laws in place, police are visiting theft locations right away, filming the crime scene, and registering cases as E-FIRs. The SHO assigns investigating officers at the police station level, which is expected to improve results on the ground. In the beginning, some vehicle theft cases were mistakenly registered under Section 303 (general theft), but this has been corrected, and now such cases are being filed under Section 305-B.

Each district has filed around 12-15 FIRs in the past week. From July 1 to July 7, 113 cases were registered in the North East, East, and Shahdara districts. The West district reported 17 cases, Southwest 16, South 13, Outer North 13, and North eight. Other districts in the city reported over 50 cases in total.

An officer mentioned that videography is mandatory not only at the crime scene but also during the search of suspects and seizure of vehicles. “The police team will film the entire process of checking the vehicle and the driver. This ensures that the accused cannot claim that the evidence was planted or tampered with. We have conducted multiple training sessions for the cops, especially those working night shifts, on videography,” the officer added.

</excerpt>

While the investigation into the brutal murder of Shraddha Walker is still underway, the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has solved a parallel crime in the eastern part of the capital.

The crime branch of the Delhi Police has detained a man in Pandav Nagar in east Delhi for allegedly killing his stepfather at their Trilokpuri home with the assistance of his mother. The deceased is Anjan Das, who married Poonam in 2017 after her ex-husband passed away in 2016. The accused have been identified as Poonam and Deepak.

After killing the victim, they chopped his body into 10 pieces, which they then kept in a refrigerator and eventually disposed of over several days.

According to authorities, both the mother and her son admitted to the heinous crime.

Anjan was forced to consume alcohol on May 30 while also being given sleeping medications. They then cut off his throat and left the body inside the house for a day so that the blood would completely drain out. The body was then cut into 10 pieces.

Six pieces of the body, however, have been found by the police.

“On June 5, some body parts were recovered in Ramlila maidan, East district. Then for the next 3 days two legs, two thighs, a skull and a forearm were recovered and then the case was filed,” DCP Crime of Delhi Police Amit Goel said.

Special CP Crime Ravinder Yadav said, “Mother Poonam and son Deepak dumped the body pieces of Anjan Das in isolated areas like behind the Ramlila Maidan, and the New Ashok Nagar drain. They also buried the skull.”

Crime Branch officials claim that the defendant buried the victim’s skull.

When Poonam discovered that her husband had sold her jewellery and sent the money to his first wife, who lived in Bihar with their eight children.

“The situation in Anjan’s family worsened after Deepak got married, and the deceased used to have ill intentions towards his wife and one of Deepak’s sisters who used to live with them. Anjan used to take all their earnings but wasn’t earning himself,” Ravinder Yadav further said.

“It seemed like a gruesome murder. Footages were analysed, door-to-door verification was done and the body was identified,” Goel said.
Goel further said that It was found that the deceased was missing for the last 5-6 months and there was no missing complaint filed by the family members.

Aftab Amin Poonawalla, the recently detained suspect in the horrifying Shraddha Walker murder case, reportedly admitted to using marijuana on the day of the murder, according to police sources.

According to Delhi police sources, the accused admitted to the police that he and Shraddha argued on May 18 about managing household costs and bringing some items from Mumbai to Delhi. According to the police, Aftab left his house after the argument, smoked a marijuana cigarette, and then came back.

“When he came back, Shraddha started yelling at him again. Following which, he got furious and strangled her so violently that she stopped breathing,” the police sources said.

“The victim was strangled to death between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and the accused, Aftab, sat next to her body the whole night and smoked marijuana,” they said.

According to reports, the accused has admitted to having a marijuana addiction and said he dumped some body parts in Dehradun as well.

However, the official stated that the police are looking into the issue from all angles and suggested that the accused may have released this information to trick the authorities.

The accused’s cutting tool has not yet been discovered by the police. According to the sources, the items that were recovered from the house have been sent for forensic analysis.

Mumbai: Web series Delhi Crime, based on Delhi Nirbhaya case, has been awarded the International Emmy Award, making it the first Indian web series to win it. In an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, the ‘Dil Bechara’ director Mukesh Chhabra opened up about the struggle he had to face during its making and how elated he is on winning Emmy Award.

Did you ever think while casting for the series it would get nominated and bring home an international award?

Our main thought process, whenever we cast for anything, is that we need to give our 100% and put forward suitable actors for any role. I along with my casting team comprising Siddharth Malik and Robin Singh Rathore worked hard and gave our best. While starting any project we always aim for the best outcome. The Emmy was a cherry on the cake so to say. We knew that it was going to be a brilliant series. But I am always grateful and humbled when my work gets recognised.

Do you think more strict laws and punishments should be implemented when it comes to rapists?

I think it’s the need of the hour. Every person who cannot respect women needs to be severely punished.

Did you go through any hinders while looking for actors in ‘Delhi Crime’ as it is based on real-life?

Yes! since it was a real-life incident we had the added pressure to be sensitive while auditioning and also be true to the real people who went through this personally. It was also a task to find realistic faces who are also good actors. We searched in every nook and corner. Each actor had to be spot on. But I and my team took up the challenge.

Having been a casting director for several Hindi films, what is the first quality you see in any actor/actress?

I would say there’s no formula as such but I believe in my instinct and it has rarely disappointed me. Once I find an actor that looks the part, my half job is done.

Tell us about your upcoming projects?

I’m excited for ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, ‘83’, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, ‘Shaabaash’ and ‘Mithu’ to be out. Since some of them are real-life stories, I had a blast during the casting process. I have a great line up of upcoming projects and can’t wait for them to be announced.

Will we be seeing you wearing the director’s cap after ‘Dil Bechara’?

I am currently focusing on casting. When I will find the right script I’ll take it up.
