</excerpt>

Australia and Delhi Capitals pacer Mitchell Starc was among the select group of overseas players who chose not to travel back to India following the Indo-Pak war on the border. The clash between India and Pakistan saw the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postpone the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a couple of days, allowing overseas stars the chance to head back home. Though all but a few players returned to play for their franchises when the T20 league resumed, Starc opted not to do so.

Starc Stands by His Decision to Skip Remainder of IPL 2025

The Australian pacer, who was pivotal to DC’s strong show in the first half of the campaign, said that he had no problems with the stance he too (to not return to India for the remainder of the campaign”.

“I’m comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled. That’s why I made my decision post-that, and my focus changed to red-ball cricket for about a week prior to coming over here. Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn’t return. But I’ve had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously, we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision,” said Starc.

WTC Final Factored into Decision of Mitchell Starc

Starc also mentioned that World Test Championship final preparation with Australia was also a reason why he made this choice.

“There was a little bit of that to my decision around the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. And then once the tournament was delayed you start to think about guys’ preparation for the Test match,” he added.

Hazlewood’s Contrasting Call Highlights Individual Nature of Decisions

But it is also to be noted that Starc’s Australian teammate Josh Hazlewood, who is also in the WTC final contingent, chose to come back to India and play out the remaining campaign for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who ended up winning the tournament.

“Things were handled differently for different players and different teams, the guys up in Dharamsala, the Punjab guys were part of that, and while both teams had similar experiences up there, all those guys returned for Punjab, and Jake Fraser-McGurk and I chose not to. So it was a very individual decision, and I’m happy to live with whatever comes of that,” said Starc.

Mitchell Starc Reaffirms Commitment to Delhi Capitals Despite Absence

Starc has only continued to reaffirm his commitment to the Delhi Capitals, “I’m still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I’m not someone that’s gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like. These are different circumstances,” said Starc.

“It was more a question of not having enough information leading into making a decision about things of that degree. I had a discussion back home, then came to a decision, and whatever comes from that, I’m comfortable with that, and we move forward,” he added.

</excerpt>

Delhi Capitals (DC) played Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. DC was allowed to field first after winning the toss, allowing PBKS to come out and bat. PBKS struggled from the beginning when Priyansh Arya was given away early, getting out for only six runs. KL Rahul, however, wasn’t a part of the playing XI at the start of the match. After being hit in the nets a few days earlier, he was brought in as an impact substitute for the last few overs of the first innings.

The Early Breakthrough and Tristan Stubbs’ Catch

DC pacer Mustafizur Rahman took the first wicket of the match in the second over. Arya tried a pull shot but received a top edge, and Tristan Stubbs, the keeper, revealed great skill by backpedaling and taking a great catch while falling backward. This initial wicket left PBKS on the backfoot, with the side resting at 8/1 after Arya’s fall.

Absence of KL Rahul from the Playing XI

KL Rahul’s non-inclusion in the opening XI became a talking point. Rahul, who is normally a marquee player for DC, was not included in the first XI of this match as he suffered a recent injury. He got hit in the nets a couple of days ago, and due to that, DC rested him for a large chunk of the innings.

Nevertheless, Rahul did turn up as an impact substitute towards the last few overs of PBKS’s first inning. His coming in as a substitute provided him with the chance to play his part in the efforts of the team, even though he wasn’t in the playing XI in the beginning.

Crucial Contribution of KL Rahul in the Run Chase

When it was the turn of DC to chase an arduous 207-run target, KL Rahul contributed crucially as an opener. Stepping in as an impact replacement, Rahul immediately made a difference with a bundle of shots to clock 35 off 21 balls. His attacking strokeplay gave the impetus DC required, and it set the tone for the successful chase. Rahul’s innings was crucial to DC’s successful chase of the target, and his knock helped them win the game convincingly against PBKS.

Moreover, DC also brought in some changes for this last game of the season. Among these changes was the benching of Abishek Porel, who has been playing wicketkeeping for DC all season, for this game. This gave the management an opportunity to experiment with their team before the next season.

PBKS’s Top-Two Finish in Jeopardy

Though already having qualified for the playoffs, PBKS was keen on occupying the top two positions of the points table to have a better standing in the playoffs. Their loss to DC did impact their chances to attain that position, though. At the moment of writing, PBKS were 44/1 after 5 overs, courtesy of Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis on the crease, who pulled their team back from the initial loss. To the misfortune of PBKS, the defeat left their hopes for finishing top-two in ruins, losing their chances of achieving a good playoff scenario.

For DC, who were already ruled out of playoff contention, this game was their last opportunity to close out the season on a high note. While PBKS stood to lose everything, Delhi Capitals took advantage of the opportunity to ruin their plans and close out strong, making a lasting impression on the way into the offseason.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Capitals vs. Punjab Kings IPL 2025 match on May 8, 2025, in Dharamshala was suddenly cancelled after a string of security threats. A power blackout in the city, which was initiated by Pakistan drone and missile attacks on several locations across India, including places near Dharamshala, resulted in the match being suspended. The attacks followed immediately after India started its Operation Sindoor, which sought to disable terrorist infrastructure.

They reached Jalandhar from Dharamshala by road, after which they boarded the train to Delhi. pic.twitter.com/dZSuUgJhCm

Blackout and Security Issues Result in IPL Match Abandonment

Following increased tensions along the western frontier, Pakistan carried out a series of coordinated drone and missile attacks against Indian cities, including areas around Dharamshala. The attacks caused widespread power outages, bringing the planned IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings to a halt. Authorities, concerned about player and fan safety, decided to cancel the match due to the threat posed by these ongoing security threats.

The two teams, which were already on their way to the stadium, quickly organized alternative travel arrangements. Members of both teams traveled back to Delhi, initially by road from Dharamshala to Jalandhar, then by train to Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi, which they reached on May 9, 2025. The last-minute change in travel plans was required owing to the blackout and security risks after the attacks.
IPL 2025 Put on Hold Amid Security Threats

Following the increasing security threats post-Operation Sindoor and the ongoing attacks along the western border of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) put the IPL 2025 on hold. The league, which has been a point of enthusiasm for millions of people across the nation, is on the verge of a significant disruption with security fears taking over. No additional IPL matches will be conducted until the situation normalizes and safety protocols are established firmly.

Operation Sindoor and Its Impact

Attacks were preceded by India’s Operation Sindoor that was conducted in order to topple terror camps working within Pakistan and Pakistan-held Jammu and Kashmir. With the operation conducted, Pakistan military further fueled tension by attacking drone and missile launches against military installations and civilian assets within India. Blackout within Dharamshala was but one of numerous implications resulting from this tightened security environment.

While the nation deals with these security issues, the BCCI, players, and fans alike wait to hear when IPL 2025 can resume safely. The league is currently on hold, with the main priority being national security and the safety of everyone involved.

The match was a heart-stopper on Wednesday night as DC won the Super Over after the two sides had been tied at 188 runs.

The former India pacer “admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game,” said an IPL statement.

The statement did not reveal Munaf’s precise offence, but he was probably fined for his confrontation with a match official after the former India paceman was not permitted to send a player into the middle to deliver his message.

</excerpt>

Australia women’s cricket team skipper Alyssa Healy reacted to her husband Mitchell Starc’s five-wicket spell in IPL 2025 on Sunday which made waves on social media. Starc became Delhi Capitals’ first fast-bowler to take five or more wickets in an IPL innings after claiming 5/35 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

Playful Instagram Post by Alyssa Healy

Posting a video on Instagram, set to Indian rapper-singer Shubh’s song Aura, Alyssa Healy playfully complimented her Women’s Premier League (WPL) team UP Warriorz first, before acknowledging the rest of the Delhi Capitals squad.

The Capitals have a strong WPL team as well, having reached the final three times and defeating the Warriorz on multiple occasions. The franchise also responded to the post put out by Alyssa Healy, engaging with fans over the wholesome moment.

Mitchell Starc’s Dominance Against SRH

Continuing his brilliant run, Mitchell Starc made an early impact by dismissing Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy in his second over (third of the match). Recognizing his form, skipper Axar Patel decided to utilize three of Starc’s four overs in the powerplay. Axar Patel’s move proved a crucial one as Starc dismissed the dangerous Travis Head in this third over.

Starc completed his five-wicket haul in the 19th over, removing Harshal Patel and Wian Mulder to wrap up a remarkable spell.

Mitchell Starc on His Bowling Strategy

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Mitchell Starc reflected on the evolving mindset of bowlers.

“There’s no ego in bowlers these days. As a bowler, you got to think out of the box. You need to do things you wouldn’t normally do,” Starc said.

“It was nice to contribute to the win today, we move forward from here. Guys know what I am going to do, so you need to think out of the box. As an older player, you need to find different ways to get batters out. Tried to bowl different balls today, was pretty effective I think.”

A New-Look Delhi Capitals Squad

Mitchell Starc also spoke about the squad’s fresh energy and how he looks forward to playing alongside new teammates.

“It has been a good day with the ball, in the field, and with the bat. It was a fantastic performance by us today. It’s a new set of players, they have been fantastic. You get to play with new guys, it’s a great group of players. It’s a pretty young group to be fair, looking forward to playing more with them,” he added.

A star in the making!”
</excerpt>

In a thrilling encounter on March 24, 2025, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the Delhi Capitals (DC) faced off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The match witnessed a remarkable turnaround, largely attributed to the explosive batting display by DC’s debutant, Vipraj Nigam.

Delhi Capitals Vs Lucknow Super Giants Match Overview

Chasing a target of 210 runs set by LSG, DC found themselves in a precarious position at 65 for 5. The early dismissal of key batsmen, including captain Axar Patel, had put DC on the back foot. However, the introduction of impact player Ashutosh Sharma, who scored an unbeaten 66 off 31 balls, and the aggressive batting of Vipraj Nigam, who contributed a rapid 39 runs off just 15 deliveries, turned the tide in favor of DC. Their partnership propelled DC to a sensational one-wicket victory with three balls to spare.

Vipraj Nigam’s Impactful Knock

Nigam’s innings was characterized by his fearless approach and powerful hitting. His 15-ball 39 included multiple boundaries and showcased his ability to handle high-pressure situations with composure. His performance not only provided the necessary momentum for DC but also highlighted his potential as a valuable asset in the middle order.

Background of Vipraj Nigam

Born on July 28, 2004, in Delhi, India, Vipraj Nigam is an emerging talent in Indian cricket. A right-arm leg-break bowler and a capable batsman, Nigam has made significant strides in domestic cricket:

Domestic Career: Nigam represented Uttar Pradesh in domestic competitions, gaining prominence during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2024-25, where he picked up eight wickets at an economy rate slightly above seven.

UP T20 League: His standout performances came in the UP T20 League, playing for the Lucknow Falcons. Nigam claimed 20 wickets in 11 games, establishing himself as a key player for his team.

IPL Auction: Recognizing his potential, the Delhi Capitals secured Nigam’s services for INR 50 lakh during the mega auction held in Jeddah last year.

</excerpt>

Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who represented Delhi Capitals in the IPL from 2016 to 2024, was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction despite his outstanding performance as captain and leading run-scorer in the 2024 season. The decision surprised fans and analysts alike.

Delhi Capitals’ new head coach Hemang Badani, who succeeded Ricky Ponting earlier this year, recently revealed why Pant was not retained. According to Badani, the franchise was eager to keep Pant, but the 27-year-old opted to enter the auction instead, aiming to gauge his market value.

“I think it’s the other way around. He wanted not to be retained. He said he wanted to go in the auction and test the market,” Badani told Subramaniam Badrinath during an interview on the latter’s YouTube channel.

The coach explained that while Delhi’s management made extensive efforts to retain Pant, including numerous discussions and exchanges, the wicketkeeper was firm in his decision. “He said he had a feeling that there were chances he would get more money than the highest cap for a retained player, which is ₹18 crore. And, at the end of the day, he felt he was worth more,” Badani said.

Pant’s intuition proved correct, as he was signed for a record ₹27 crore by the Lucknow Super Giants during the auction held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Reflecting on the move, Badani added, “Good for him. He is a very good player. We will obviously miss him. But life goes on.”

Pant remains Delhi Capitals’ most capped player and the leading run-scorer in their IPL history.

</excerpt>

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal finally spoke up on Tuesday, revealing why Rishabh Pant chose to leave the franchise. Even though Pant chose to leave, Delhi used their Right-To-Match card during the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah on Sunday but failed to match Lucknow Super Giants’ bid of INR 27 crore.

Speaking to RevSportz, Jindal shared that after last IPL season, the management gave Pant “honest feedback” regarding his performances and told him that they did not expect him to do that. However Pant didn’t take it properly and made the “emotional call” to the franchise to leave.

“Not retaining Pant was not about ownership. It was a very collective decision. We had a lot of discussions with Rishabh. There were things that were expected of Rishabh, which we did not get in the last or in the previous seasons. We gave him an honest feedback. But the feedback was not taken as the way we expected it to be taken. He then took an emotional call,” Jindal explained.

Jindal also revealed that he and co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi had tried to convince Pant to stay with the team but the India batter had made up his mind.

According to the managing director of JSW Cement, although he had told Pant that they would not pursue him in the auction, emotions led him to try and pick him up. But the price was too high.

“He has also grown in this franchise, but what happened is not what I’m going to get into. It was a very prolonged long discussion and after that Pant decided not to stay. Me and Kiran tried made all efforts to keep him, but he decided to go in a different direction. I told Pant that we won’t go after him in the auction, but my heart took over and we tried picking him up. But the price was too high,” Jindal said.

Pant was eventually auctioned at INR 27 crores to Lucknow Super Giants. Initially, earlier in the day, Shreyas Iyer has been sold for INR 26.75 crore to Punjab Kings, setting a new highest record surpassing Mitchell Starc of INR 24.75 crore from last season. LSG also roped in 19 other players for this mega-auction that comes to an INR 68.90 crore.

KL Rahul emerged as a key highlight, joining Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore. The bidding for the star batter was intense, with Kolkata Knight Riders initiating the bid, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, RCB exited at ₹11 crore, paving the way for Delhi Capitals to step in. KKR also withdrew later, leaving the field open for Delhi until Chennai Super Kings entered the race. Despite their late surge, CSK pulled out at ₹14 crore, sealing Rahul’s move to the Capitals. Lucknow Super Giants chose not to use their Right to Match (RTM) option, making Rahul a pivotal addition to Delhi, likely to take on a leadership role in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

In the bowlers’ segment, Shami’s auction began at a base price of ₹2 crore, with KKR and CSK engaging in early bidding. After several rounds, KKR led at ₹9.75 crore before Sunrisers Hyderabad intervened with a successful bid exceeding ₹10 crore. Gujarat Titans opted not to exercise their RTM for Shami.

</excerpt>

Rishabh Pant’s nine-year journey with Delhi Capitals (DC) has come to an unexpected end ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, where he was notably not retained. According to recent reports, Pant was reportedly unhappy with several decisions made by the GMR Group, co-owners of DC, which ultimately led to his departure. This includes dissatisfaction with changes in the coaching staff and curtailment of his role within the team.

The GMR Group, which will oversee the franchise for the 2025-26 cycle, reportedly appointed Hemang Badani as head coach and Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket, moves that did not sit well with Pant. Furthermore, there were discussions within DC’s management about transferring the captaincy from Pant to Axar Patel, which may have influenced Pant’s decision to seek opportunities with a different franchise.

This transition of power within DC stems from their 50-50 ownership, with the JSW and GMR groups alternately managing the team every two years. Under GMR’s current cycle, DC also parted ways with head coach Ricky Ponting, who had served for seven years, as well as Sourav Ganguly, who held the position of Director of Cricket.

Having been retained through two previous mega auctions since his DC debut in 2016, Pant’s departure marks a significant shift, as DC begins a new chapter under a revamped leadership structure.

</excerpt>

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will continue his association with Delhi Capitals. Despite media speculation that the franchise might release him ahead of the upcoming mega auction later this year, it has now been confirmed that Pant will be DC’s top retention pick. This development coincided with Pant’s outstanding performance, as he smashed his 6th Test century, tying MS Dhoni’s record.

As per Cricbuzz, Pant is set to be retained by Delhi Capitals, following a meeting with co-owner Parth Jindal in Mumbai. The wicketkeeper-batter, currently earning INR 16 crore, could see an increase in his earnings depending on the player purse allocated to franchises and the retention fee guidelines set by the BCCI.

Pant returned to action in IPL 2024 after a lengthy injury break, resuming his role as DC captain. Since then, he has been in remarkable form, accumulating 446 runs in 13 matches at a stellar strike rate of 155, making him the season’s highest run-scorer. Additionally, Pant remains DC’s all-time leading run-scorer with 3284 runs to his name.

While recovering from his injury, Pant focused on his fitness, a trait that showed in his performances for India, particularly in the 2023 T20 World Cup and the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. On Saturday, Pant scored a stunning 109 off 128 deliveries, hitting 13 boundaries and 4 sixes.

Potential Delhi Capitals Retentions

Though the BCCI has yet to announce the IPL retention policies, reports suggest that DC would prefer to retain players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Tristan Stubbs if allowed to keep more than five players. Additionally, they might retain Abhishek Porel if rules permit the retention of uncapped players.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Capitals have recently parted ways with Ricky Ponting as their head coach, and former India captain Sourav Ganguly, currently the Director of Cricket Operations at the franchise, had shown interest in stepping into a coaching role. However, it appears that Yuvraj Singh, the legendary Indian all-rounder and Ganguly’s former protege, might be considered for a coaching position for IPL 2025.

According to a Sportstar report, Delhi Capitals are eager to include Yuvraj Singh in their coaching staff. A final decision on this is still pending. There were previous indications that Gujarat Titans might replace Ashish Nehra with Yuvraj Singh, but it now seems that the IPL 2022 champions are looking for a former player to fill Gary Kirsten’s role, who has taken on the white-ball head coach position for Pakistan.

The report also mentions that Delhi Capitals aim to strengthen their batting lineup for IPL 2025 and view Yuvraj Singh as a potential mentor for their batters. Although Yuvraj lacks formal coaching experience, he has worked with players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma over the years.

While Sourav Ganguly had expressed a desire to take on a coaching role, he is expected to continue overseeing the franchise’s overall operations as the Director of Cricket Operations. Yuvraj Singh previously played for Delhi Capitals, having been the highest-paid player in IPL history when he was bought for Rs 16 crore in the 2015 auction. He scored 248 runs in 14 matches for the team that year before being released ahead of the 2016 auction.

</excerpt>

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant shared a heartfelt message on social media for the home fans on Friday after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2024. Pant has been a standout in the 17th edition of the league, marking his return to cricket after a 14-month recovery from a severe car accident in December 2022.

The 26-year-old batsman scored 446 runs in 13 matches this season, showcasing his impressive skills. His performance has secured him a place in India’s 15-man squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup as one of the two wicketkeeper options.

Pant expressed his gratitude on Instagram, writing, “It felt amazing to be back on the pitch after so long! I can’t be grateful enough for everyone who played a part in this. None of this would be possible without the constant love and support from the fans. The energy was unreal, and I’m thrilled to be doing what I love again. I’m excited for what’s ahead and looking forward to giving my best and making more memories.”,

However, cricket enthusiasts worldwide were treated to a remarkable cameo by veteran wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni. Despite Dhoni’s unbeaten 37 off 16 balls, his whirlwind innings couldn’t turn the tide as CSK had a challenging target to chase. Named the ‘Electric Striker of the Match’ Dhoni’s performance had the stadium buzzing, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a CSK victory.

The excitement in the stadium, particularly following the crowd’s experience of an extraordinary display by MS Dhoni, led even his wife Sakshi to believe that Chennai had emerged victorious. Sakshi shared an Instagram story, confessing that she hadn’t realized it was Delhi who had won.

In terms of the match, Khaleel Ahmed shaped the storyline in favor of DC by dismissing the opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra for 1 and 2 runs, respectively.

Ajinkya Rahane (45) and Daryl Mitchell (34) attempted to build momentum for CSK with their 68-run partnership. However, Axar Patel broke the stand by dismissing Mitchell, while Mukesh Kumar struck from the opposite end to remove Rahane.

Shivam Dube and Sameer Rizvi faced challenges in providing the much-needed firepower for CSK. Dhoni’s late surge, striking 20 runs off Anrich Nortje in the final over, provided a glimmer of hope. Nevertheless, DC’s well-coordinated strategy prevented CSK from clinching victory.

In the earlier stages of the innings, Prithvi Shaw (43 runs from 27 balls) and David Warner (52 runs from 35 balls) kicked off for Delhi, forging a formidable 93-run partnership to provide the Capitals with a blazing start.

CSK’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Shaw in the 11th over at a crucial juncture when the opener was in scintillating form. Shaw hammered 4 fours and 2 sixes during his innings.

Following the initial dismissals, Pant took charge of the game. However, other DC batters such as Mitchell Marsh (18 runs from 12 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (0 runs from 2 balls) failed to endure against the Chennai bowling attack.

Matheesha Pathirana was in fine form as he claimed pivotal wickets, dismissing Marsh and Stubbs in the 15th over.

The Sri Lankan pacer secured his third wicket by dismissing Pant in the 19th over. The DC skipper hammered 4 fours and 3 sixes, propelling the team beyond the 190-run mark.

</excerpt>

The player who orchestrated the downfall and busted open the gates of the Gabba fortress, a player who is known for his sheer striking skills in white-ball cricket – Rishabh Pant – is just a couple of hours away from returning to the field of cricket for the first time in 14 months.

A life-threatening accident in December 2022 forced Pant to serve time on the sidelines keeping him away from the game he “loves the most”. Pant will lead Delhi Capitals for the first time since IPL 2022, against Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, in Mohali on Saturday.

Fans who have been waiting for Pant’s return for more than a year will finally get to witness the spectacle that the 26-year-old has often produced in his career. After missing out on the on-field action for so long, for Pant, it would be like making his cricketing debut again.
He has been providing updates on his fitness to fans through social media since he began his rehabilitation. In the pre-match press conference, while addressing the media persons, Pant spoke at length about his feelings about making a comeback to professional cricket after 14 months.

“Jittery, nervous, excited- all of it, but at the same time, just happy, being able to come back to professional cricket. I’m just looking forward to playing my first game tomorrow,” Pant expressed.

“Every time I take the field, it’s a different feeling altogether. I just wanted to bat as much as I could and get better every day. I don’t think much ahead, I take one day at a time, and give my 100 per cent,” he added while talking about Delhi Capitals’ pre-season camp in Visakhapatnam.

Pant has represented DC since 2016 and has amassed 2,838 runs in 98 matches at an average of 34.61 and a strike rate of over 147, with a century and 15 fifties to his name.
For India, Pant has 33 Test, 30 ODI and 66 T20I appearances to his name. In Test, the left-handed batter amassed 2271 runs at an average of 43.67 and a strike rate of 73.63. He has five tons and eleven half-centuries as well.

In the T20I format, Pant has 987 runs at a batting average of 22.43 and a strike rate of 126.37. He has yet to score a ton but has three fifties to his name.

In ODIs, the wicketkeeper batter has 865 runs at an average of 34.60 and a strike rate of 106.65. Pant also has a century and five fifties in his kitty.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra commended Prithvi Shaw for his aggressive approach at the top of Delhi’s batting order.

Chopra emphasized, “They have a destructive top order. Prithvi Shaw just hits. He has even hit six fours in an over. He did that against Shivam Mavi. Form – things have changed a lot from last year to this year. If David Warner wishes to hit, he does that very well. He didn’t make up his mind to do that last year.”

Additionally, the 46-year-old underscored the valuable contributions of Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant to Delhi’s batting lineup. He suggested that South African batsman Tristan Stubbs could enhance the team’s batting depth by occupying the number 5 position.

“Mitchell Marsh also drives his car in the flying gear. After that, Rishabh Pant. I have named him Rishabh ‘destructive’ Pant in any case. If I keep Tristan Stubbs at No. 5, his batting also stuns everyone. So the top five are absolutely mind-blowing,” he further remarked.

The 17th edition of the IPL is set to commence on March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals will embark on their IPL 2024 journey with a match against the Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on Saturday.

The IPL 2024 squad of the Delhi Capitals boasts prominent players such as Rishabh Pant (c), Pravin Dubey, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Abishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, among others.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Capitals continued their terrific form at the WPL 2024 as they registered a 25-run win over Gujarat Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Skipper Meg Lanning’s vital 55-run off 41 balls led Delhi Capitals to post 163/8 in their 20 overs. And then the spin duo Radha Yadav (3/20) and Jess Jonassen (3/22) scalped a total of six wickets to help Delhi register their third consecutive win of the season.

Speaking after the game, Lanning said, “I’m just enjoying playing cricket, having a great time with Delhi. We’ve got a really good squad of players and staff that makes it a really cool environment to be in. We back each other and play to our strengths, so it certainly helps and makes my job a lot easier.”

She further added, “It’s been nice to be able to contribute and help the team win. I feel like there’s still a little bit of improvement needed in how I’m playing. I’m not completely satisfied, but as I said I’m just trying to have some fun and play with a smile on my face.”
With this win, DC signed off the Bengaluru leg on the top of the points table (3 wins, 1 loss in 4 matches). They will now move to their home to play their remaining matches of the tournament.

When asked about DC’s aggressive batting lineup Lanning said, “Each batter in that top six has different strengths. All we’ve spoken about is playing to our strengths.”
“We want to play with freedom, we want to take the game on, especially with the conditions here, you need to set some big totals, and you do that by playing what you are good at. I think that’s what we have been doing throughout the tournament so far, and hopefully we can continue to do that,” she concluded.

The Delhi Capitals will square off against Mumbai Indians in their next match of the WPL 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, March 5.

First, the Capitals made a threatening total of 5-194 thanks in large part to Jonassen’s scorching unbeaten 36 off only 16 balls (a strike rate of 225), which included a pair of huge sixes towards the conclusion of Delhi’s innings.

Then, with skipper Smriti Mandhana leading the way with an incredible 43-ball 74, the Challengers attempted to mount a historic WPL chase in front of their home crowd in Bengaluru. Jonassen was safe as houses beneath two crucial deep catches to remove Sophie Devine and Richa Ghosh.

She took three wickets in the first four balls of the last over, including the wicket of her Australian teammate Sophie Molineux, to finish with impressive figures of 3-21 off her four overs. She was asked to bowl the crucial death overs, and she did a great job for Lanning.

Bangalore, who were without Ellyse Perry due to illness, ended their chase at 9-169 thanks to her pivotal contribution. Annabel Sutherland, who was dropped, did her bit as a stand-in fielder by grabbing two catches in deep during Jonassen’s three-wicket over.

DC players were asked to sum up MS Dhoni in one “word” before the game, and the responses that they provided were genuine.
Ishant Sharma, a seasoned bowler for India, refers to Dhoni as his “Big Brother,” and Axar Patel refers to him simply as “Mr. Cool.” Former Indian skipper is referred to as “Legend” by Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. And Dhoni has a “big fan” in Sarfaraz Khan.
DC In the video that DC released on their Twitter account, young players called him “legend,” “thalaiva,” and even “god.”

With a strike rate of 200.00 and an average of 76.00 when playing in the lower middle order, Dhoni has scored 76 runs in 10 games.
Along with a two-season stint with the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant from 2016–17, Dhoni has been affiliated with CSK from the Rich-Cash League’s inaugural season.
Every time he enters the crease, a sizable yellow army that is cheering him on erupts into applause.

CSK is currently in second place in the standings with six victories, four losses, and one match that ended in a tie. They have 13 points altogether. DC, on the other side, is last with just four victories and six defeats. They currently have eight points and would like to get to double digits. CSK had defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI) in its last encounter, whereas DC had defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore.
DC has improved and won four of their last five games. CSK, on the other side, has three victories, two defeats, and one tie.

</excerpt>

Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by Aiden Markam, lost the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Delhi Capitals at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday with a score of 7 runs.

Once again, SRH showed a lack of motivation as the hosts failed to pursue a target of 145. Even though SRH appeared active throughout the powerplay, the lack of boundaries quickly caused them to lose steam. Although Mayank Aggarwal appeared to be in good form, he was unable to record his maiden IPL 2023 half-century because he mistimed a shot against Axar Patel.

The lack of intent was once again on display as Washington Sundar was walking to complete a run when SRH needed 9 runs in the last two balls. “Not good with the bat. Not enough intent, not excited to win a game of cricket, unfortunately. We have to go back and see how we can be free and be better. It is difficult, you can say all the right things but guys have to buy into it. We want to play a certain brand of cricket and if we get it wrong doing that then we’ll sleep a lot better at night. Tonight we lacked intent, unfortunately, we are letting us down because of a lack of intent.” SRH skipper Aiden Markram said after the match.

Chasing 145, SRH got off to a steady start as Mayank Agarwal unfurled several cuts and well-timed drives to take SRH to 31/0 from five overs. Harry Brook, at the other end, found the going tough and the desperation got to him as he looked to scoop one of Anrich Nortje’s but missed and was cleaned up for 7 off 14 balls.

DC tightened things from then on, bowled with discipline and didn’t give the SRH batters an inch. They didn’t concede a boundary for several overs as the home side reached 58/1 at the halfway mark. Agarwal finally ended the boundary drought as he slapped one through covers off Mitchell Marsh for the first boundary in 27 balls. Marsh could have had the wicket of Agarwal in the same over but Mukesh Kumar dropped a touch low catch.

Washington Sundar and Heinrich Klassen relieved some pressure by hitting fours and sixes, respectively, as they took 13 off an over with 51 needed in 24 balls. Mukesh Kumar was hit by a few fours from Klassen.

After being dropped by Mitchell Marsh off the preceding ball, Nortje then played a pivotal role in the game by having Klaasen caught at deep cover. In the same over, Washington Sundar hit one for a four and then took a single off the final ball to hold the strike. When Warner gave Mukesh Kumar the ball again with 13 needed off the final over, the impact player made his mark and helped DC win by 7 runs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak stole the limelight with a three-wicket haul and ended the game with a score of 3/20.

In the hunt for their first victory in the IPL 2023, the Delhi Capitals found themselves stuck in an endless nightmare as they lost three wickets in 2.2 overs. Anuj Rawat ensured that Prithvi Shaw’s poor form continued as he sent the right-handed batter back to the pavilion with a precise throw that sent the bails flying in the air. Shaw walked back to the pavilion with a golden duck in his hand.

Before Delhi could regroup, Wayne Parnell got the wicket of Mitchell Marsh in the second over to send Australia back for a four-ball duck. Faf Du Plessis mixed up his bowling lineup as Mohammed Siraj came in to bowl the third over. RCB’s skipper tactics paid off as Siraj trapped Yash Dhull (1) right in front of the wicket. In 2.2 overs, DC’s scoreboard (2/3) looked like a football scoreline.

David Warner and Manish Pandey tried to put up a partnership, but the RCB debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak didn’t allow that to happen as he made David Warner (19) his maiden wicket in the IPL. Manish Pandey stood as the lone warrior and tried to keep DC in the game for as long as possible. But the lack of support on the other end made the target of 175 unachievable.

Rishabh Pant, the regular captain of the Delhi Capitals, will watch his team play their first home match from the stands because he is unable to play this season due to injuries sustained in a car accident last year.

The Delhi Capitals squad sent a special heartfelt message to Pant in a video posted by the IPL Twitter handle ahead of their match against the defending champions Gujarat Titans.

While Pant is recovering from his injury, his teammates made a short video wishing him a speedy recovery and a quick return to the field.

Prithvi Shaw, a Delhi batter and Pant’s close friend, stated, “Rishabh, I hope you are recovering well, I am seeing your video; baby steps are coming now. Really happy to see you recover. We really miss you, recover soon and get back to the field with us. Love you. Take care buddy.”

Axar Patel, a bowling all-rounder, recalls the moment with the wicket-keeper batter and requests that he return to the field as soon as possible.
