The Apaches will be deployed along the Pakistan border in Rajasthan.
</excerpt>

India is likely to take delivery of three out of the six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters that the Indian Army had ordered by the end of this month, more than a year after delays began, sources informed The Indian Express.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to accelerate the supply of Apache helicopters and GE F404 engines, which will power India’s domestic fighter jet, the LCA Tejas.

OEM-Indian Army Jointly Inspected the Apache Helicopter

Sources confirmed that representatives from the Indian Army and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) will jointly conduct a receipt inspection in India as soon as the helicopters arrive to attest to the delivery.

India had signed a contract with the United States in 2020 for procuring six more Apache helicopters for the Indian Army. This followed the 2015 contract under which the US delivered 22 Apache helicopters to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Technical Delays Pushed Apache Deliveries by a Year

The authorities initially planned to deliver the six new Apaches in three tranches by last year, but technical and supply chain problems seriously disrupted the handover process.

Observers view the induction of Apaches as a major capability boost for the Army, especially after Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

To Be Deployed Along the Pakistan Border

The Army will be placing the new Apache helicopters in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, further enhancing India’s combat capabilities along the western frontier against Pakistan. The Army Aviation Corps had set up an Apache squadron in Jodhpur last year as part of preparations for this induction.

Apart from the Apache fleet, the Indian Army and Air Force also have the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand. The Ministry of Defence inked two big contracts with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in March 2025 to buy 156 LCH Prachand helicopters along with equipment and training worth ₹62,700 crore.

Under the deal, the government will transfer 66 LCHs to the Air Force and 90 to the Army, marking one of India’s biggest indigenous defence aviation procurement drives in recent times.

Jaishankar supports Rajnath Singh’s decision to reject the SCO statement over the absence of a terrorism reference.
</excerpt>

India has stood firm at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declined to sign the final joint statement. He objected to the fact that the document made no reference to terrorism, especially the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 individuals, who were largely tourists. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar subsequently supported Rajnath Singh’s move, disclosing one member nation insisted on deleting any mention of terrorism.

That position directly contradicted the SCO’s core purpose, as member states established the group to fight terrorism. Consequently, the meeting concluded without a joint statement.

Terrorism Was Left Out

Addressing the issue, S. Jaishankar referred to the fundamental contradiction. He stated that the SCO was established with a central aim — combating terrorism. But one member nation demanded that the outcome document did not mention it at all. He did not specify the nation, but the denial broke the whole consensus.

India considered this exclusion unacceptable. Rajnath Singh, who represented India at the meeting in Qingdao, China, openly protested signing an agreement that did not mention the urgent matter of terrorism. The reason for his protest was the recent Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, terrorist attack that took the lives of 26 individuals.

SCO Runs on Unanimity

S. Jaishankar recalled the media that the SCO operates exclusively on unanimous decisions. India did not concur with the omission of terrorism, so the members could not approve the statement. Lack of consensus prevented the launch of a joint declaration by the defence ministers.

Who is the Blockage?

While S. Jaishankar did not specifically mention the country, the circumstances indicate China as the possible mover.

Rajnath Singh May Visit China for SCO Meet, First Time Since Galwan Clash

<excerpt>Rajnath Singh’s expected China visit for SCO meet could mark first ministerial trip since Galwan clash and border thaw.
</excerpt>

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting Qingdao, China, towards the end of this month to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting, which is being hosted by China this year. If confirmed, this would be his first visit to China following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash that had severely tested bilateral relations.

This possible visit can also be the first official ministerial-level interaction between India and China after their October 2024 agreement to resume patrolling and pull troops off friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

The last meeting for Singh with Chinese counterpart was in Laos

Rajnath Singh had last met Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun during the ADMM-Plus summit in Laos. The meeting was the first between the two countries’ defence ministers after the disengagement agreement and was a tentative step towards restoration of communication between the militaries.

India and China have continued diplomatic and military talks to ease tensions and stabilize border ties since the Galwan clash. Singh’s proposed attendance in Qingdao is seen as a positive move to restore higher-level bilateral contact.

Dialogue going beyond military to cultural & civilian exchanges

The potential visit is part of larger initiatives to boost relations between New Delhi and Beijing. Some of the ideas being discussed include the revival of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, re-establishing air travel connectivity, resuming the exchange of hydrological statistics, and easing visa processing and people-to-people exchange.

India has also confirmed its backing for the current SCO presidency by China. This attitude was reaffirmed a short while ago in New Delhi when Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri received Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong. Their conversation echoed both countries’ readiness to augment cooperation under the SCO umbrella despite ongoing border sensitivities.

India balances security with diplomacy

While Singh’s attendance at the SCO meeting would be symbolic, it also reflects India’s cautious recalibration of its relations with China—walking a diplomatic outreach tightrope with demands for safe borders. The SCO forum, which includes principal regional actors like Russia, China, India, and Central Asian nations, provides a strategic space for interaction without bilateral compromises.

India’s consistent emphasis on sovereignty and territorial integrity remains unchanged. Yet Singh’s possible visit underlines New Delhi’s intent to keep diplomatic channels open while reinforcing regional security cooperation.

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gave a strong message at Bhuj airbase on May 16. He indicated that Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7 to target terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, is still far from over. Rajnath Singh referred to the initial strikes as a “trailer” and stated that the “full picture” will be revealed at the appropriate time. This reflects that India is ready and watchful and will take further action against terror activities.

The Defence Minister underscored the success of the operation that destroyed nine terror targets. The Indian Air Force was also hailed by him for demonstrating to the world that India’s war policy and technology have evolved. According to Rajnath Singh, this operation symbolizes a paradigm shift from surviving terror attacks and merely reacting to retaliating with strength and accuracy.

India’s New War Policy and Military Strength

Rajnath Singh explained that the Indian Air Force not only showed military power, but also a new mindset. The destruction of terror camps and some Pakistani air bases indicate that India has enhanced its military muscle. He stated, “The whole world has seen how you attacked nine terrorist camps on Pakistani soil.” This clearly indicates that India will firmly respond to any aggression.

He commended the Indian military spirit and thanked them in the name of the country. Rajnath Singh quoted, “Naya Bharat ab sahan nahi karta, balki wah palat kar jawab deta hai” (The new India no longer tolerates but strikes back). It reflects India’s strong will to protect its sovereignty.

Concerns Over IMF Aid to Pakistan

Rajnath Singh also criticized the recent $1 billion financial support package given by the International Monetary Fund to Pakistan. He warned that Islamabad might utilize the funds to finance terror infrastructure against India.

Rajnath Singh called on the IMF to reconsider giving money to Pakistan, emphasizing that the world needs to grasp the dangers involved. “The world needs to understand the dangers involved,” he said.

</excerpt>

India has clearly marked a bold red line after the successful conduct of a high-accuracy military operation—Operation Sindoor. In clear and direct language, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Thursday that India will not endure any provocation or threat to its sovereignty. Precisely, he indicated the destruction of nine terror camps spread across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Additionally, Rajnath Singh made a threatening warning: one who tests the patience of India should prepare to face what he termed a quality response.

Interestingly, his remarks came merely a day after the Indian military conducted the cross-border raid with precision and very little collateral damage. Therefore, the operation is not only illustrative of India’s operational power—it represents a dramatic change in its strategic positioning. Beyond showing military power, it delivers an unmistakable message to rivals: India will respond quickly, unambiguously, and unhesitantly.

Rajnath Singh’s Stern and Strategic Message

First, Rajnath Singh reaffirmed India’s age-old commitment to diplomacy and peace. But he very soon made one thing clear that such patience did not mean being passive. “We have always acted like a responsible nation,” he stated. “But whoever attempts to misuse our patience needs to be prepared for another Operation Sindoor.”

Evidently, Rajnath Singh’s words were well-timed. Hours earlier, Indian troops had launched a bold, precision strike on the other side of the Line of Control. Thus, his words served to emphasize not just determination, but preparedness. He left no doubt: India will retaliate, if provoked again—accurately and with purpose.

Operation Sindoor: A Benchmark in Precision Warfare

In addition, Operation Sindoor is notable for its precision and efficacy. The Indian army, employing sophisticated coordination and state-of-the-art weapons, attacked nine terror camps across enemy territory. Consequently, numerous terrorists were killed. Notably, the operation spared civilian lives—illustrating the Indian military’s capacity to balance power with prudence.

Rajnath Singh complimented the professionalism of the operation, declaring, “It was carried out with unimaginable precision. No harm came to innocents.” This not only complimented military execution but also underscored India’s developing capability to combat hybrid threats while maintaining humanitarian values.

Clear Evolution in India’s Military Posture

Against this, it is clear that Operation Sindoor is a sign of something greater than tactical victory—it signifies a shift in India’s defense doctrine. For decades, India liked to respond to provocation with long drawn-out diplomatic machinations. Nowadays, though, that strategy has been replaced with one that trusts quick, measured reactions. With this, there is a need for adversaries to rethink their presumptions.

Rajnath Singh also noted that the operation was made possible by India’s modernized military. “Our capable and professionally trained soldiers, with high-quality equipment, made this possible,” he said. Essentially, India is claiming that it now has both the will and the capability to enforce red lines when needed.

Pakistan is Now Facing a Strategic Crossroads

By Operation Sindoor, India has altered Islamabad’s equation. Pakistan can either choose genuine anti-terrorist cooperation. Or it has to be ready for more accurate and stronger reprisals if attempts at provocation persist.

In plain words, Rajnath Singh’s message leaves no room for ambiguity. India will no longer wait to act. The next Operation Sindoor—if need be—will be accompanied with the same accuracy and determination.

India’s Message is Loud and Clear

In short, Operation Sindoor and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s words herald a new era in India’s strategic stance. India will still prefer peace and diplomacy, but at no cost to national security. In the future, provocations will be responded to with quick, proportionate, and technologically sophisticated counterattacks.

The warning to India’s enemies is unambiguous: do not confuse restraint with weakness. Respect India’s borders—or face a “quality response.” India has drawn a line, and this time that line will not blur.

</excerpt>

Amind increasing tensions between India and Pakistan after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is said to have met PM Narendra Modi to deliberate strategic options.

At a time when India is considering issuing a military response against Pakistan for its role in the attack that killed 26, of whom the majority were tourists, India has already taken major diplomatic and military actions, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.

Strategic Meeting: PM Modi and Rajnath Singh

On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed PM Modi about military action in Kashmir and on the Western front. The meeting took around 40 minutes. Both leaders discussed India’s strategy to retaliate against Pakistan’s role in the Pahalgam attack.

Earlier, Rajnath had met Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, preparing the ground for India’s military response. PM Modi also ensured that India would chase terrorists and their backers “to the ends of the Earth.” He committed that terrorism will not shatter India’s soul.

Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty: A Diplomatic Move

One of India’s strongest actions was suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. This 1960 pact between India and Pakistan regulates water distribution. India has referred to its move as an “act of war” by Pakistan. While it won’t bring about immediate water shortages, India’s decision now permits it to regulate water flow. This can impact Pakistan’s agriculture, hydropower, and water supply, especially during peak summer months.

Experts, such as Professor Medha Bisht, describe how India may be able to control water flow to create water shortages or small floods in Pakistan. India is also engaged in constructing infrastructure to ensure maximum control over the Indus river system in the long term.

Military Response: Will India Strike?

India seems ready for a military response to the Pahalgam attack. Although India’s exact military actions remain unclear, Modi’s statements suggest a strong stance. India is already taking diplomatic and military measures.

The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the possibility of military retaliation signal that India will no longer tolerate cross-border terrorism.

Rising Diplomatic Tensions

The Pahalgam attack has brought about a critical realignment in India’s relations with Pakistan. India has indicated its stance, employing both military and diplomatic means. Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and even possibilities of military action demonstrate India’s determination.

Whether by utilizing military strikes or by exerting pressure on water resources, India is ready to act. The next few weeks will most probably witness increased tension as both countries deal with this unstable situation.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju sharply criticized Congress for attacking and altering the Constitution. During a speech in the Lok Sabha, he accused the party of changing its core essence. “You have attacked the Constitution, you have changed the preamble. You have changed the very soul of the Constitution. Then how can you blame others?” Rijiju stated.

Rijiju Defends India’s Treatment of Minorities

Furthermore, Rijiju responded to opposition claims about the safety of minorities in India. He pointed out that, when minorities face persecution in other countries, they seek protection in India. “If there is oppression against minorities, the first country they come to seek protection is India,” he explained. Thus, he questioned why the opposition continues to claim minorities are not safe in the country.

Questions Congress on Bharat Ratna for Ambedkar

Additionally, Rijiju raised concerns about Congress not awarding Bharat Ratna to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He highlighted that, after 1956, the award was given to other leaders, including Indira Gandhi, but not to Ambedkar. “Why wasn’t Baba Saheb Ambedkar given Bharat Ratna during your party’s governance?” he asked, urging the Congress to address this issue.

75th Anniversary of the Constitution

On December 13, the Lok Sabha began a two-day debate to mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption. The previous day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered fiery speeches. The winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25, will run until December 20.

The Indian Army has resumed patrolling in Demchok, eastern Ladakh, after nearly four-and-a-half years. Soon, it will start patrols in Depsang, aiming to restore the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to its pre-April 2020 state before the India-China standoff began, according to sources.

Verification Ensures Safe Pullback

After recent disengagement efforts, both the Indian and Chinese armies withdrew troops and equipment from these areas. Verification of this pullback was done using drones, aerial surveillance, and satellite imagery to confirm the safe distancing of forces. This disengagement follows a breakthrough agreement to reduce border tensions.

Breakthrough Disengagement Process Begins

The disengagement process officially began on October 23, just two days after India and China announced their agreement to resolve conflicts at the final flashpoints in Demchok and Depsang. Both sides pulled back troops, dismantled temporary structures, and cleared the immediate confrontation zones, marking an end to this face-off phase.

Ground Commanders Finalize Patrolling Rules

Ground commanders from both nations agreed on patrolling rules, establishing clear guidelines on frequency and patrol unit size. This agreement ends a two-year negotiation impasse, with the last troop pullback occurring in September 2022 from Patrolling Point-15 (PP-15) in the Gogra-Hot Springs area.

Lt Gen Bhatia: “A Path to Restore Peace”

Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia (Retd), former Director General of Military Operations, said the disengagement allows both sides to patrol in a coordinated, scheduled way. He added that this opens a “path to restore peace and tranquillity along LAC.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Commends Troops

On Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that India and China had reached a consensus to restore the original conditions in certain areas of eastern Ladakh after “continuous efforts.” Praising the discipline of Indian forces, he stated, “India and China were in diplomatic and military talks to resolve their conflicts in some areas along the LAC. We have reached a consensus following our continuous efforts. We achieved this success due to your discipline and courage. We will continue this process of peace restoration based on the consensus.” Singh shared this message while celebrating Diwali with the troops of HQs 4 Corps in Tezpur.

New Agreement Covers Only Demchok and Depsang

This recent agreement applies only to Demchok and Depsang, but both nations will keep negotiating on other areas. Unlike previous disengagements, this one does not create buffer zones.

Past Buffer Zones and Future Patrolling

Earlier disengagements in areas like Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso, Gogra (PP-17A), and Hot Springs (PP-15) established buffer zones to prevent conflicts. Now, both sides are discussing future patrolling plans in these areas as they move toward de-escalation.

Next Steps: De-escalation and Reduced Troop Presence

Disengagement is only the first step to ease tensions. De-escalation and eventually reducing troops are necessary to restore peace along the border. Though progress is underway, both armies still maintain a large presence with advanced weaponry in Ladakh.

</excerpt>

During the 62nd National Defence College Course Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could transform military operations, highlighting its capabilities in predictive analytics and autonomous decision-making systems. He urged the attendees, future leaders, to understand how to effectively leverage this technology.

In today’s interconnected environment, Singh stressed the importance of military leaders having a solid understanding of geopolitics, international relations, and the intricacies of global security alliances. “The decisions made by military leaders can have significant repercussions that extend beyond the battlefield, influencing diplomacy, economics, and international law. Therefore, strategic learning in these areas is essential,” he remarked.

Referring to Israel’s recent hacking of Hezbollah communication systems, Singh noted the unprecedented threats we face, pointing out that everyday technologies could be weaponized. “The prospect of our adversaries exploiting these capabilities is a stark reminder of the urgent need to prepare for such scenarios,” he stated.

The National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi is a premier institution for Defence and Strategic Studies in India. Each year, the NDC Course is attended by around 100 officers of the rank of Brigadier and equivalent from the Indian Armed Forces, along with Joint Secretary-level officers from civil, police, and allied services. Officers from approximately 25 friendly foreign nations also participate in the program. NDC alumni often rise to high-ranking positions in both the armed forces and government, both in India and internationally.

Additionally, the one-year course qualifies officers for an M.Phil. degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from the esteemed University of Madras in Chennai.

</excerpt>

As the election campaign in Haryana intensifies ahead of the October 5 polling day, senior BJP leaders, including Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have taken centre stage in leading the party’s efforts. Their focus has sharpened on securing the crucial Rajput community’s vote, a key demographic in the state.

Following the intense campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the past couple of days rallies by Rajnath and Adityanath have drawn attention to BJP’s developmental achievements while delivering pointed criticism of Congress’s past governance and stance on national issues.

Addressing a rally in Charkhi Dadri, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took a dig at the Congress, highlighting the BJP’s clean governance. “PM Modi’s government has been at the centre for 10 years, and not a single minister has been charged with corruption. In contrast, during Congress’s tenure, several leaders faced corruption charges, and some even ended up in jail,” said Singh.

He further emphasized BJP’s focus on transparency and fair governance. “When Congress was in power, securing a job required recommendations or bribes. We have ended that corrupt system,” Singh said. He recounted his earlier promise from Haryana’s soil in 2013 about implementing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) policy. “BJP not only implemented OROP but has revised it thrice now, proving that we fulfill our promises,” he asserted.
The Defence Minister also praised the BJP’s farmer-centric initiatives, stating that under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, ₹3.25 lakh crore was directly transferred into farmers’ bank accounts. “Haryana stands as the state that procures 24 crops at MSP and offers additional price support through the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana,” he added, emphasizing the state’s remarkable progress in ensuring water supply to nearly every household through the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a strong pitch for BJP candidates at rallies in Narnaul, Bawani Khera, Panchkula, and Hansi. Adityanath urged voters to re-elect Captain Abhimanyu from Narnaund, emphasizing that their votes for the lotus symbol (BJP’s emblem) would bring prosperity akin to the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

Launching a scathing attack on Congress, Adityanath remarked, “The ‘Accidental Hindus’ who have been raised in the culture of Rome cannot tolerate the construction of the Ram Temple.” He stated that PM Modi’s leadership ended the 500-year-long wait to see Lord Ram established at Ayodhya, a moment celebrated by millions except for the Congress, who he claimed, “shed crocodile tears over it.”

Adityanath lambasted Rahul Gandhi without naming him, saying, “Those who criticize the Ram temple inauguration as a mere celebration were themselves raised in a culture of constant revelry.” He added, “Congress was involved in corrupt partnerships with notorious mafias in Uttar Pradesh and has always been a source of terrorism, extremism, and corruption in the country.”

The UP Chief Minister took sharp jabs at Congress, alleging that they looted the nation for decades and stashed money in Swiss banks. “While BJP workers served the people during the pandemic, where was Rahul Gandhi? He was seeking solace in Italy,” Adityanath commented, highlighting Congress’s alleged disconnection from the country’s concerns.
“Congress represents the roles of Ravan, Meghnad, and Kumbhkaran, while BJP stands for Ram Rajya and good governance,” Adityanath proclaimed, stating that Haryana has witnessed unprecedented growth under the “double-engine government” led by BJP at both the state and central levels. Yogi Adityanath accused Congress of disrespecting Hindu beliefs.

</excerpt>

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday for their enthusiastic participation in the first phase of the Assembly elections, held on September 18, with a voter turnout of over 61%, the highest in 30 years. He remarked that the strong democratic engagement in the region has caused discomfort in Pakistan, especially after the abrogation of Article 370.
Addressing a rally in support of BJP candidate Choudhary Abdul Gani, Singh took aim at opposition parties, accusing the National Conference (NC), Congress, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of misleading the public with promises to restore Article 370, which was repealed by the central government in 2019. “The NC, Congress, and PDP are acting as proxies for Pakistan by discussing the restoration of Article 370 in their manifestoes,” Singh said.
The defence minister pointed to Pakistan’s internal turmoil, suggesting that its leaders are focusing on Jammu and Kashmir to divert attention from their problems. He referenced a statement from Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, where Asif expressed alignment with the NC-Congress alliance on Article 370, questioning Pakistan’s interference in India’s internal matters.
Singh also highlighted the sentiments in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), where he claimed residents are eager to join India, impressed by the region’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Drawing on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s words—”hum dost badal sakte hain, humsaaye nahi” (we can change friends but not neighbours)—Singh expressed India’s willingness for peaceful relations with Pakistan, provided it “treads the right path.” However, he reaffirmed that the restoration of Article 370 would not happen under the BJP’s rule.
He also touched on the challenges Jammu and Kashmir faced over the years due to Article 370, stating that 80% of those killed in the region’s violence were Muslims. He vowed that if BJP comes to power, it would transform Jammu and Kashmir into the most developed region in India within a decade.
Singh concluded by praising the cultural unity of Kashmir and lamenting that local politicians have divided the region for political gain.
He promised that under Modi’s leadership, Jammu and Kashmir would see an end to divisive politics, focusing instead on progress and national unity.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan are set to brief the three military chiefs and all senior commanders about significant upcoming changes in military structure, with theatre commands expected to be implemented as early as this year. Gen Chauhan will lead the inaugural Joint Combined Commanders Conference in Lucknow today, while Defence Minister Singh, along with the local MP, will address the top armed forces leaders tomorrow.

Gen Chauhan has prepared a blueprint for the three theatre commands following extensive consultations with top commanders across the services. The plan awaits final approval from the Narendra Modi government. The Northern Theatre Command, to be headquartered in Lucknow, will focus on operations against China. The Western Theatre Command, based in Jaipur, will handle operations related to Pakistan. The Maritime Theatre Command, located in Thiruvananthapuram, will oversee the Indian Ocean region and India’s coastal areas.

Despite some unease among the armed forces about these changes, there is a clear need to enhance coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Future conflicts will involve multi-dimensional battles with long-range weapons playing a significant role, necessitating new strategies. The era of traditional air-land battles is over, and the Indian military must move past outdated colonial practices to adopt modern tactics suited to the region. The current reliance on doctrines from the permanent members of the UN Security Council should be re-evaluated.

While countries like China and the US have established theatre commands, India’s military is still grappling with a reluctance to relinquish traditional power structures. It is crucial that the new theatre commands are founded on solid military doctrine and objectives rather than mere reforms.

The introduction of theatre commands will bring transformative changes to the Indian armed forces, with theatre commanders holding operational roles and reporting directly to political leaders, bypassing bureaucratic channels. The final structure will incorporate feedback from Defence Minister Singh and national security planners to ensure it addresses current global challenges, including conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, and the South China Sea, as well as regional political instability.

</excerpt>

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh engaged with senior leaders from major US defence companies in Washington, DC, to explore co-development and co-production opportunities in India’s defence sector. Singh spoke at an industry roundtable organized by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), where he emphasized India’s commitment to the Make in India program and the goal of achieving Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence.

Singh’s address highlighted the significant potential for collaboration between Indian and US companies. He encouraged American firms to partner with Indian businesses to accelerate the development and production of defence technologies. In a post on X, Singh said, “Had fruitful interaction with leading U.S. defence companies at the Defence Industry – Roundtable organised by @USISPF. Invited them to work with Indian partners to accelerate our Make in India programme towards achieving Atmanirbharta in the defence sector. Together, Indian and US companies will co-develop and co-produce for the world.”

According to the Ministry of Defence, Singh underscored that the core elements of ‘Partnership’ and ‘Joint Efforts’ set India’s defence industry collaboration apart from others. The Ministry’s press release noted that India’s progressive reforms have attracted many foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), including those from the US, to establish manufacturing units, form joint ventures, and consider India as an alternate export base. A significant milestone in this partnership will be the planned co-production of GE 414 aero-engines in India.

The roundtable saw participation from leaders of major US defence and technology companies, including Boeing, GE, General Atomics, General Dynamics Land Systems, L3 Harris, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Rolls Royce, and ThayerMahan. Indian companies such as IdeaForge, Tata Sons, and Tsecond, along with senior representatives from The Cohen Group, also took part in the discussions. These leaders presented their ongoing projects and plans for India and provided valuable feedback.

During his visit, Singh also held extensive discussions with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin on bilateral defence cooperation, industrial collaboration, and regional security. They reviewed the India-US Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap, which was adopted last year, and discussed various co-development and co-production opportunities. The two leaders commended the progress in operationalizing the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness initiative, a Quad initiative, and India’s ongoing efforts to enhance Maritime Domain Awareness in the Indian Ocean Region.

Singh and Austin also noted the Indian Navy’s forthcoming deployment of personnel to the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) Combined Task Force 150 headquarters in 2025. They praised the India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) for establishing a Defence Innovation bridge between the two countries. INDUS-X has created robust networks across start-ups, industry, academia, and governments, accelerating the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and enhancing warfighting capabilities.

The upcoming INDUS X Silicon Valley Summit in September 2024 is expected to announce several key initiatives. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the conclusion of the Security of Supplies Arrangement (SOSA) between India and the US, marking a significant step in strengthening defence ties between the two nations.

</excerpt>

On Sunday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to development beyond the realm of “partisan politics.” Speaking at an event marking the release of a commemorative coin celebrating the birth centenary of Tamil Nadu’s five-time Chief Minister, Kalaignar Muthuvel Karunanidhi, Singh underscored the government’s dedication to democracy and cooperative federalism.
Singh praised Karunanidhi for his dedication to democracy and his role in driving positive changes. He noted that the Modi-led NDA government also believes in the power of democracy to foster development and empowerment, emphasizing that their commitment transcends political divides. Singh highlighted ongoing initiatives, such as the establishment of defence industrial corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, designed to enhance domestic defence manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. These corridors aim to attract investment, foster innovation, and create a robust defence production ecosystem within India.
The Defence Minister also touched on cultural integration efforts, mentioning the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, which PM Modi inaugurated to celebrate the historical connections between Tamil people and Kashi. Building on this success, the government has introduced the Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam to celebrate the cultural ties between West and South India.
Reflecting on Karunanidhi’s legacy, Singh stressed the importance of his unwavering commitment to values and dignity for all citizens, regardless of background. He described Karunanidhi as a model of leadership, whose dedication to social justice and cultural advancement is a valuable lesson for future generations.
In unveiling the commemorative Karunanidhi coin, Singh paid tribute to Karunanidhi’s lifetime of progress, justice, and societal betterment. He emphasized that Karunanidhi’s impact was felt far beyond Tamil Nadu, marking him as a significant figure in Indian politics and a staunch advocate for social justice. The coin serves as a symbol of collective gratitude and a reminder of the enduring values Karunanidhi championed.

</excerpt>

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to embark on a crucial visit to the United States later this month, marking the first high-level trip to Washington after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Russia. This visit comes at a pivotal time, as India seeks to address delays in key defence projects and expand strategic-military ties with the US.

Key Agendas for the Visit

Rajnath Singh will hold delegation-level talks with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd J. Austin on August 23. The discussions will focus on several strategic areas, including enhanced security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, a key area of interest given China’s growing influence in the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The visit is also timed with India’s upcoming Malabar naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal, involving the Quad countries — the US, Japan, and Australia.

Addressing Delays in Defence Projects

A significant part of Singh’s agenda will involve addressing the delays in the supply of GE-F404 turbofan engines from US firm General Electric to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). These engines are crucial for the indigenous Tejas Mark-1A fighter jets, which have seen delivery delays due to this issue. Singh is expected to discuss ways to expedite this process, ensuring the timely delivery of the 83 Tejas jets contracted by the Indian Air Force under a deal worth Rs 46,898 crore.

Boosting Defence Collaboration and Co-production

During his five-day visit, Singh will also engage with the leadership of major US defence companies to reinforce the “Make in India” initiative. This follows the military-industrial cooperation roadmap finalized between India and the US in June last year, which aims to fast-track technology collaboration and co-production in several priority areas, including aero-engines, ISR systems, and smart munitions.

Ongoing Defence Negotiations

India and the US are currently in the final stages of negotiations for two significant defence deals. The first involves the acquisition of 31 armed MQ-9B drones and associated equipment, with India seeking to finalize the deal by November this year, despite the US’s initial price tag of $3.9 billion. The second deal focuses on the co-production of GE-F414 jet engines for the Tejas Mark-II fighters, with an 80% transfer of technology for around $1 billion.

Strengthening Bilateral Defence Ties

The US is also advocating for the joint manufacture of its latest Stryker armoured infantry combat vehicles in India, reflecting the upward trajectory of the bilateral defence partnership. Since 2007, the US has secured Indian defence contracts worth approximately $22 billion, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.

Under the technology collaboration roadmap, India and the US are prioritizing key areas such as air combat, ISR systems, ground mobility, undersea domain awareness, and smart munitions. Singh’s visit is expected to further solidify these ties and advance ongoing projects, reinforcing India’s position as a key player in the global defence landscape.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. Sources indicate that the discussions were holistic, focusing on future security strategies for the region.

This high-level meeting is a significant step towards reinforcing security measures and countering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, while also addressing broader security concerns along India’s borders.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Friday that India’s defence manufacturing sector has seen a rise of 16.8 percent in the fiscal year 2023-24. This increase marks the highest-ever growth in the country’s defence production value, which reached Rs 1,26,887 crore this year, up from the previous fiscal year.

Singh underscored the achievements of the Make in India initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He highlighted, “India has registered the highest ever growth in the value of defence production in 2023-24. The value of production has reached Rs. 1,26,887 crore, which is 16.8% higher than the previous year.”

The Defence Minister congratulated Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and the private sector for their contributions to this milestone. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering India as a prominent global defence manufacturing hub. “Many congratulations to our industry including DPSUs, other PSUs manufacturing defence items and the Private industry. The Government is committed to creating a more conducive regime for developing India as a leading Global Defence Manufacturing Hub,” Singh added.

The central government has set ambitious targets for indigenous defence manufacturing, aiming to achieve a production worth Rs 1,75,000 crore, including defence exports valued at Rs 35,000 crore, by the fiscal year 2024-25. Policy reforms have been implemented to enhance ease of doing business, integrating micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups into the defence supply chain.

In FY 2023-24, India’s defence exports reached a record Rs 21,083 crore (approximately USD 2.63 billion), marking a significant growth of 32.5 percent from the previous fiscal year’s Rs 15,920 crore. </excerpt>

Rahul Gandhi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had been engaged in a verbal sparring match on the compensation awarded to the family of Ajay Singh, who deceased in a landmine explosion in the Rajouri area of Jammu & Kashmir in January of this year. Rahul Gandhi also paid the Payal subdivision family a visit on May 29 after traveling to Ludhiana for a Lok Sabha election rally.

Gandhi, in the last Lok Sabha session, demanded the end of the Agniveer Army recruiting plan, which was initiated by the national government led by the BJP. He described the system as a “use and throw” one that makes a distinction between temporary recruits and permanent troops. He had claimed that the Center had not given Ajay Singh’s family any compensation. Rajnath Singh, however, called the accusations untrue and stated that the government pays the families of Agniveers who pass away while doing their duties with compensation of Rs 1 crore.

A number of electronic media reporters were chased away by the family of dead Agniveer Ajay Singh (23) in Ramgarh Sardaran village in Payal sub-division of Ludhiana district, claiming that they were bothering them. This led to a high-stakes scene outside his residence. Even after six months since their son’s death, Ajay Singh’s family said on Thursday that they had not got any ex gratia money from the Army or the Centre.

“We have received Rs 98 lakh from insurance cover claim,” said laborer Charanjit Singh Kala, Ajay Singh’s father. This includes an insurance policy (rather than an ex gratia payment) of Rs 48 lakh from the Army. A private bank has also paid out an additional Rs 50 lakh as payment for my son’s insurance coverage. We have received an amount of Rs 1 crore from the Punjab government. However, Rajnath Singh’s assertion that the Center has compensated us with Rs 1 crore is wholly false. Neither the Center nor the Army have yet to provide us with ex gratia payments.

Singh spoke at the Sahib Ganj public gathering through a virtual platform since his helicopter couldn’t land due to bad weather in the area. He delivered a speech at the rally while actively supporting BJP candidate Tala Marandi from the Rajmahal Constituency during his campaign.

“Former CM of the state is in jail on corruption charges. A large amount of cash was confiscated at the house of the personal assistant of a Jharkhand government minister, which is a betrayal to the people of Jharkhand and the poor across the country,” he said.

He criticized opposition parties for practicing appeasement politics, citing examples like West Bengal where illegal immigration has allegedly increased due to such policies. He stated that the BJP government plans to identify and expel infiltrators from the country.

Coming down heavily on opposition parties for their stand against CAA, the Defense Minister said, “We have implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and other religious minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He said, “During the pandemic, the Modi-led government ensured everyone received the COVID vaccine and distributed 5 kg of free ration to every household.
Singh recalled the amendment made to the Preamble during Indira Gandhi’s tenure in 1976, highlighting the consensus within the constituent assembly regarding the possibility of constitutional amendments. He stressed that while amendments have been made in the past, the BJP does not entertain the idea of altering the Preamble.

Singh’s comments come in response to allegations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who suggested that the BJP would disregard the Constitution if re-elected. Concerns were also raised by some Congress members about the potential removal of “secularism” from the Preamble.

The Defence Minister reiterated the BJP’s commitment to reservation policies, particularly for OBCs and STs, dismissing claims of discontinuation. He clarified that while the Opposition discusses religion-based reservation, the BJP firmly opposes such measures, citing constitutional constraints.

With the Lok Sabha elections underway, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is seeking a third consecutive term. Voting for six of the seven phases has concluded, with results slated for announcement on June 4 after the final round of voting on June 1.

His comments came amid allegations by the Congress that if PM Modi-led BJP gets 400 seats after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, “democracy would be in danger.”
Addressing a public meeting in Haryana’s Karnal, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “…They (the Congress) say if Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets more than 400 seats, it will put democracy in danger; he will become a dictator. But when Indira Gandhi lost her election before 1975, morally she should’ve resigned as a PM but she imposed the emergency and choked democracy…”

“Lakhs of people were put behind bars. At the age of 24, I was also jailed for two and a half months. Whoever wants to verify it, can do it. They (Congress) choked the democracy. My mother died due to shock when it was declared that the emergency had been extended by one year,” Rajnath Singh added.

On May 25, a single phase of the Lok Sabha elections for Haryana’s ten parliamentary constituencies will take place.

The BJP won every poll in Haryana during the 2019 state Lok Sabha elections, taking all ten seats. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) gained two seats and the Congress won one seat in the 2014 elections, leaving the BJP with seven seats.
Polling took place in its first five phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20.

The following two voting rounds are scheduled for June 1 and May 25. Seven stages will comprise the six-week-long 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which will take place between April 19 and June 1. On June 4, the results and counting will be made public.

</excerpt>

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, accompanied by his wife Savitri Singh, cast their votes on Monday in Lucknow during the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Singh, who is the sitting MP and BJP candidate from the Lucknow constituency, appealed to voters nationwide to exercise their vote.
“I want to appeal to all voters in Lucknow and across the country to definitely go and vote today, bringing all your family members with you. This is our appeal,” Singh stated while speaking to the media.

“This time, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) wants to surpass 400 seats,” Singh continued, expressing confidence in the party. Right now, I don’t want to estimate how many seats there will be.
Singh will compete against Samajwadi Party candidate Ravidas Mehrotra in the Lucknow election. Sarwar Malik is the candidate put out by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Following their vote, the pair showed off their inked fingers as a sign of their involvement in the political process.

Rajnath Singh’s son Pankaj Singh an MLA from Noida also cast his vote and called on voters to come out in large numbers “I request all voters to vote in record numbers. The more the voting, the stronger our democracy will be. I urge our young voters and Nari Shakti to come forward in large numbers to cast their votes. Do vote for building a self-reliant and developed India.”

The Defence Minister’s appeal to action underscores the significance of voting in the third round of the Lok Sabha elections in deciding the country’s future leadership.
Lucknow is one of Uttar Pradesh’s eighty parliamentary seats. Uttar Pradesh, one of the most populous states in India, has a major influence on the makeup of the Lok Sabha.

The Congress has won the Lucknow seat six times, and the BJP has won eight times. Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, sister of the country’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, became the first MP from this high-profile seat.
The constituency has been a stronghold of the BJP since 1991. It gained prominence, with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee representing it. Vajpayee, after initial setbacks in 1955, 1957 and 1962, won the seat five times.

Rajnath Singh had said, “I tried to fulfill the dreams of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and left no stone unturned for the city’s development,” during an address to a public meeting in Lucknow.

“We are devoted to carrying out Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji’s vision for Lucknow in the future, and we have worked hard to make it a reality. We want to move Lucknow up to the fifth spot in the world rankings, where it is now ranked tenth,” Singh stated.

The Lucknow Lok Sabha seat is divided among five assembly seats. Cantt Assembly seats, as well as Lucknow East, Lucknow West, Lucknow Central, and Lucknow North, are among them. This parliamentary seat has 39.33017 lakh voters in total. Among them are 169 third-gender voters, 18.49960 lakh female voters, and 20.82888 lakh male voters.

The 2019 Lok Sabha election in Lucknow recorded a voter turnout of 54.72 per cent. BJP’s candidate Rajnath Singh received 6,33,026 votes, defeating SP’s Poonam Sinha and Congress’ Acharya Pramod Krishnam, while receiving 56.70 per cent of the total votes.

In the 2014 elections, the BJP’s Rajnath Singh, again with 5,61,106 marginal votes, defeated the Congress’ Rita Bahuguna Joshi, securing 5,61,106 votes and 54.52 per cent of the vote share.

The other constituencies other than Lucknow that are voting today in Uttar Pradesh include Kaiserganj, Amethi, Mohanlalganj, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Banda, Fatehpur, Kaushambhi, Faizabad, Barabanki, Raebareli and Gonda.
Polling for 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh is being held across all seven phases. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
