He underscored the concerted efforts of both the Center and the state in pre-cyclone preparedness, leading to zero casualties during the natural disaster, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After the devastating Cyclone Biparjoy, Shah emphasized that the MHA immediately deployed the Inter-Ministerial Central Team to assess the damages without waiting for a memorandum from the state government.

Cyclone Biparjoy, originating in the southeast Arabian Sea on June 6, made landfall over Saurashtra and Kutch on June 15, subsequently weakening into a depression by June 18. According to the IMD’s report, Biparjoy had an extended life cycle of 13 days and three hours, which was more than double the average duration of severe cyclonic storms over the Arabian Sea.

The sanctioned financial aid aims to facilitate the rehabilitation and recovery process in Gujarat, which bore the brunt of Cyclone Biparjoy, providing essential support for the affected areas and communities in the state.

</excerpt>

According to officials, a number of trains in Rajasthan have been cancelled due to the cyclonic storm Biparjoy, which has created a riot in the State. Biparjoy, a cyclonic storm, has had an impact on train travel in the Gujarati regions of Kutch and Saurashtra. Railways stated on Monday that numerous trains have been cancelled due to passenger safety. The storm, according to Sunday’s statement from Rajasthan’s minister of railways Ashwini Vaishnav, has uprooted tracks at five different locations. He claimed that Railways had successfully redirected passenger trains on the route. In a tweet, he added, “Work is underway on a war footing to rebuild the tracks.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, Captain Shashi Kiran, stated that several trains were cancelled “in light of Cyclone Biparjoy.” There were three expresses involved in this: the Jodhpur-Bhildi (04841), Bhildi-Jodhpur (04842), and the Jodhpur-Palanpur (14893).

At 0830 IST on June 19, 2023, the MeT department tweeted that “yesterday’s depression over central parts of South Rajasthan & neighbourhood weakened into a Well marked Low Pressure Area over central parts of Northeast Rajasthan & neighbourhood.”

Cyclone Biparjoy caused the Anasagar Lake near Ajmer, Rajasthan, to flood on Monday following a period of intense rain. As a result, the city experienced severe waterlogging and flood-like conditions in a number of locations.
Moreover, after 24 hours of intense rain in the city under the effect of Biparjoy on Sunday, the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Ajmer was flooded. The orthopaedic ward, ophthalmology department, outdoor ward, X-ray room, and pharmacy were all flooded by rain, which was quite inconvenient for hospital staff.

</excerpt>

Under the influence of cyclonic storm Biparjoy, Rajasthan’s Barmer district experienced heavy rain on Sunday. Numerous locations had severe waterlogging and flood-like conditions.
There were severe gusts and rain. Meanwhile, Jalore also witnessed strong winds and rain.

As cyclone Biparjoy has weakened into a deep depression and is moving in the East-North East direction, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over South Rajasthan and adjoining areas of North Gujarat, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Saturday.
He further said that it is raining only in Gujarat and Rajasthan due to the cyclone.
“Cyclone Biparjoy weakened into a deep depression. It is moving in the East-North East direction. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over South Rajasthan and adjoining areas of North Gujarat. Due to the cyclone, it is raining only in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Monsoon has nothing to do with this cyclone,” Mohapatra said.
The cyclone Biparjoy weakened into a ‘Deep Depression’ on June 16 over Southeast Pakistan adjoining Southwest Rajasthan and Kutch, about 100 km northeast of Dholavira and moved to Rajasthan following its landfall in Gujarat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
It is further expected to weaken into a ‘Depression’ in the next 12 hours, the weather department said.
Following rainfall and gusty winds in Udaipur, a video showed glass falling from the second floor of a building and a couple of cars parked beneath the building got damaged.
Earlier, it was reported that several trees were uprooted in Bhuj, Kutch, due to the impact of the cyclone. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team carried out the clearance work on Friday.
The cyclone, which originated in the Arabian Sea and swept across the west coast of India made landfall on Thursday night around 10 km north of the Jakhau Port in Kutch, as per IMD reports. After the hurricane made landfall on Thursday evening, 127 citizens were evacuated from Rupen Bandar Government Primary School and transferred to NDH School in Dwarka by a total of six NDRF teams. 82 men, 27 women, and 15 children are among the evacuated people, according to the NDRF.
Due to the impending heavy rains that are expected over the next two to three days, Western Railways decided to partially or completely suspend the operation of a few additional trains on friday. Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, convened a meeting last week on Friday at Gandhinagar’s State Emergency Operations Centre to assess the situation following the cyclone’s landfall.

IMD officials claim that the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) made landfall on the Kutch coast on Thursday night between 10:30 and 11:30 pm, around 10 kilometres north of Jakhau Port. Since then, it has diminished into a Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS), and during the next few hours, it is expected to decrease even further.

The morning after the landfall continued to show high-speed winds, heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions in various districts of Gujarat. Due to strong winds, the districts experienced damage in terms of infrastructure and the falling of electric poles and trees.
Visuals of heavy rains, high tide, waterlogging, and overflowing were seen at Gomti Ghat (Dwarka), Mandvi (Kutch), and Bhuj. Even other parts of the west coast, including Mumbai, experienced rough sea conditions – where tides as high as 4.27 m have been predicted by the state meteorological department.High-speed winds uprooted trees and caused road blockages and property damage in areas like Bhuj, Mandvi, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Lakhpat, Kutch district, and Naliya.

NDRF reports showed that atleast 23 people had been injured and 24 animal lives were lost as an impact of the landfall. Two people were killed before the landfall, and no human deaths have been reported thereafter. Meanwhile, around 108208 people were evacuated safely from affected districts by the district authority, NDRF, SDRF, Indian Armed Force and other official teams. The Gujarat Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, said, “There is no report of loss of human lives in the Kachchh district, till now. </excerpt>

After Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in coastal portions of the state on thursday evening, heavy rains and gusting winds with speeds of over 115-120 km per hour wreaked havoc in Gujarat’s Morbi district, breaking over 300 electric poles and causing power outages in about 45 villages. Officials with the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) said that efforts are underway to restore power in nine of the affected villages.
“Strong winds broke electric wires and poles, causing a power outage in 45 villages of Maliya tehsil. We are restoring power in 9 villages and power has been restored in the remaining villages,” PGVCL’s executive engineer, Morbi, JC Goswami said.
As per the officials, two power stations in the Maliya Taluka of Morbi have been shut down due to the cyclonic storm. “In the coastal and desert regions, more than 300 electric poles have been damaged,” they said.

Earlier on Thursday evening, at least 22 people were injured, while electric poles and trees were uprooted as the ‘Biparjoy’ cyclone made landfall in Gujarat’s coastal areas.
In addition to this, 23 animals have also been killed and heavy rains coupled with gusty winds brought down over 524 trees and electric poles at various places in Gujarat, snapping the supply of power to around 940 villages, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the Relief Commissioner of Gujarat Alok Pandey said that there are chances of flash floods and intermittent rainfall is expected across Gujarat with heavy rainfall.
“The eye of the storm is currently near the Pakistan-Kutch border. The wind had an average speed of 78 kmph. There are chances of power outages. As per IMD’s forecast, the storm will reach southern Rajasthan tomorrow”.
“People have been alerted in the low-lying areas. There are chances of flash floods. Intermittent rainfall is expected across Gujarat with heavy rainfall near the storm epicentre,” he added.
Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on the wee hours of Friday that cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is expected to weaken further by Friday morning and move into a ‘depression’ in the subsequent evening.
IMD officials said that the ‘severe’ cyclonic storm Biparjoy lay centred over the Saurashtra-Kutch region and is expected to move northeastwards, adding that heavy rains are expected in Rajasthan on Friday.
“The severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy lay centred over the Saurashtra-Kutch region, 30 km north of Naliya as of 0230 IST today,” IMD said in a tweet.”It is expected to move northeastwards and weaken into a Cyclonic Storm by early morning on June 16, and into a depression by the same evening over south Rajasthan,” it said.
IMD Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that the cyclone has now moved from sea to land and is centred towards Sauarashtra-Kutch.
“Cyclone Biporjoy moved northeastwards and crossed the Saurashtra-Kutch adjoining Pakistan coast close to the Jakhau port, Gujarat. The cyclone has now moved from sea to land and is centred towards Saurashtra-Kutch,” told Mohapatra.
He added, “The intensity of the cyclone has reduced to 105-115 kmph. The category has changed from very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) to severe cyclonic storm (SCS). There may be heavy rains in Rajasthan on June 16 (Friday)”.
The intensity of Cyclone Biparjoy reduced from the ‘very severe’ to ‘severe’ category on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday after the storm made landfall in coastal areas of Gujarat.

The train services were impacted as Cyclone Biparjoy, which had been developing over the Arabian Sea for several days, made landfall in Gujarat’s coastal region. As a result, 99 trains that were passing through, originating in, or ending in Gujarat’s Biparjoy-affected areas had to be cancelled or short-terminated, according to Western Railway.
Many relief and rescue teams are on watch, according to officials, as tens of thousands of people were evacuated to safe areas in Gujarat.
The State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar hosted a review meeting on Thursday morning, which was presided over by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The IMD issued a Red Alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch beaches earlier on Wednesday, stating that VSCS (Very Severe Cyclonic Storm) “Biparjoy” will pass over Saurashtra and Kutch and adjacent Pakistani coasts. The India Meteorological Department has already issued warnings of significant damage to temporary dwelling structures and tree and branch falls owing to high-speed winds, high tides, and heavy rains.
