</excerpt>

Even as Congress is fire- fighting the possible leader- ship change and asserting it is not discussing any chang- es in Karnataka, the current situation has once again opened the old wound of power tussle in the grand old party in the southern state.

Amid the reports of a leadership change in the state, the Congress on Tuesday asserted it was not discussing any possible leadership changes in Karnataka, and also warned its legislators against making statements on the issue in the. And even as the grand old party projected a united face saying all is well, a video surfaced online in which an MLA is heard saying Siddaramaiah “lucky lottery” and became the chief minister while others who joined the Congress with him got nothing. Karnataka Congress incharge Randeep Singh Surjewala speaking to the media in Bengaluru, amid the feud between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar, cleared the air and said his exercise of meeting party MLAs over the next three days is focussed not on seeking the opinions of MLAs for a possible change in guard in the state. He clarified that his meetings are part of addressing the grievances and various organisational issues. Surjewala said: “Don’t try and settle your scores. Raise (any issues) with the head of the family.

The party’s head of the family is PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) president (Shivakumar). The government’s head of the family is the chief minister, Siddaramaiah.” Meanwhile, Congress sources indicated that the power tussle, between the two warring factions which was going on behind the curtain has now come out in open as the tussle between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar has come to the fore and not remained only limited to speculations. “And this is being proved by the number of meetings taking place on organisation level that fight for chair is going on and is getting marker day be day in the state,” the source said.

Congress returned to power in 2023 assembly polls and since then there was a buzz that there is a two and half year formula settled between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, a claim denied by the party on multiple occasion. But if sources are to be believed, this formula was prepared in the presence of Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and incharge Surjewala. And as per the formula, Siddaramaiah will complete two and half years as Chief Minister of Karnataka in November this year. And thus questions are being raised that if he will hand over the state top post to his deputy Shivakumar, who is also the stafe unit chief. Amid the buzz of power tussle and repeated statements by several party leaders, Surjewala on the other hand has been camping in the state and has been holding one to one talks with the MLAs.

However the source disclosed that his meeting with the MLAs is giving many indications, which the party dubbing it as review meeting. But the source said that the meeting is giving an impression that Surjewala is holding meeting to prepare the ground for the power transfer in the state. The source said that the feedback from Karnataka will be shared with the party leadership, especially Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi and then they will decide the position and direction of the party at the exact time.

</excerpt>

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, delivered an impressive performance on Monday by winning two out of five seats in the recent bye-elections. The party clinched one assembly seat each in Punjab and Gujarat. The victory served as a much-needed morale boost for AAP workers, coming months after their setback against the BJP in the Delhi assembly elections.

“I am not going to the Rajya Sabha. The party’s Political Affairs Committee will decide who will go to the Rajya Sabha,” he said at a press conference.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took the Visavadar (Gujarat) and Ludhiana West (Punjab) assembly seats.

Double-Margin Wins Boost AAP Morale

“In the February elections, we won the Visavadar seat, but our MLA left the party and joined the BJP… But today, we have won both the seats (including Ludhiana West) with a double margin. We won Ludhiana West as well, and it shows that people are happy with our work… It is said that it’s always the ruling party that wins the by-elections, but in Gujarat it is the BJP which is in power and it has also hold on the administration and machinery; despite that if the people have given us votes and we won by a double margin, it shows that people are fed up with the BJP,” he added.

AAP’s sitting MP Sanjeev Arora emerged victorious in the Ludhiana West bypolls in Punjab. Arora will be required to resign from the Rajya Sabha.

“In Gujarat, there is a direct fight between BJP, AAP.
During a press conference, Kejriwal was quizzed who the party would nominate in Arora’s stead, Opposition parties have asserted that party leader Kejriwal would join the Upper House in Arora’s stead.

AAP’s Gopal Italia emerged victorious from Gujarat’s Visavadar assembly constituency. The Congress-led UDF took Nilambur from the ruling LDF in Kerala. The ruling BJP in Gujarat held on to the Kadi seat, and the Trinamool Congress was ahead in the Kaliganj assembly seat in West Bengal’s Nadia district.

The bypolls in the five constituencies were conducted on June 19.

</excerpt>

Congress will form a 24-member OBC Advisory Council to boost backward class representation and regain voter support.

NEW DELHI: With Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stressing the need to increase representation of the backward, Dalit, and OBC communities within the party and regularly emphasising their representation in government sectors, the grand old party has decided to form an OBC Advisory Council. This council will hold dialogues and devise strategies to enhance their representation. According to Congress sources, the party has initiated plans to create a 24-member OBC Advisory Council comprising several senior leaders.

The source revealed that the party has appointed its OBC department chairman Anil Jaihind as the convenor of the committee, with Jitendra Baghel named as the council’s secretary. Several senior leaders have been included in this council, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Sachin Pilot, B.K. Hariprasad, Veerappa Moily, Subhashini Yadav, Mahesh Gaud, Gurdeep Singh Sappal, Vijay Waddetiwar, Ajay Kumar Lallu, and many others.

The source stated that the new OBC Advisory Council has been formed to address issues faced by the Other Backward Classes, discuss their representation in government jobs, and other related concerns. The move aims to bring back OBC voters to the Congress fold, as they have gradually moved away from the party over the past few decades. The source added that the council is expected to hold a meeting soon in the national capital to formulate strategies on these issues and plan measures to strengthen the party in the coming years.

Further elaborating, the source said that Gandhi’s consistent demand for fair representation of SC, ST, OBC, and tribal communities in government jobs aligns with the council’s objectives and will help achieve the vision of the Gandhi scion. The source also explained that the council will guide the party in meeting the aspirations of the OBC community and ensure greater representation within the party’s organisational structure.

Meanwhile, the need for this council was felt following Congress’s demand for a caste census across the country. The party realised the importance of OBC voters during last year’s general elections and understood the necessity of bringing them back into the party’s fold. The source further stated that the council will play a significant role in raising OBC issues, especially as the party advocates for increasing reservation beyond 50% amid calls for a detailed and transparent caste census. Congress has already been taking steps in recent months to enhance OBC representation within the party organisation.

</excerpt>

Congress begins major internal overhaul in 2025 to empower grassroots leaders and enforce internal democracy.

NEW DELHI: With the Congress dedicating 2025 to organisational restructuring as it prepares to take on the BJP’s juggernaut, the grand old party is planning a massive overhaul of its internal setup, reflecting Rahul Gandhi’s vision to empower grassroots leaders and build a future-ready leadership. The restructuring process involves feedback from over 1,000 party workers and leaders for the selection of district presidents.

Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has recently toured the country extensively to address long-standing issues that have hindered the party’s electoral performance. A source closely involved in the organisational reshuffle said these long-awaited reforms will significantly strengthen democracy within the party. He explained that Gandhi is committed to implementing his long-pending goal of fostering internal democracy in the Congress by identifying underperforming and compromised leaders and workers.

During his recent visits to states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana, the former Congress chief reportedly made several remarks alluding to inefficiencies within the organisation—without naming individuals. Gandhi launched the ‘Sangathan Srijan’ initiative earlier this year from Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state. The process of new appointments there is nearly complete. While in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi famously described three types of political actors: racehorses, marriage horses, and crippled horses—an allegory for evaluating leadership potential.

The source said that Gandhi is personally overseeing the work assigned to observers, who have been tasked with identifying new grassroots leaders. Through ‘Sangathan Srijan’, Gandhi has also reportedly gained deeper insight into the systemic rot that has plagued the Congress organisation for decades. Observers have been instructed to propose at least three names per district for the role of district president. They are meeting with party leaders on an Assembly-wise basis to shortlist potential candidates. With Gandhi directly monitoring the process, the observers are working intensively to complete the organisational overhaul through a bottom-up, democratic framework—from the booth level to the state level. The party is gathering input from more than 150 individuals per Assembly constituency for both block-level and district-level appointments.

Once compiled, these reports will be submitted to the party high command. Although the new mechanism for appointing local chiefs is timeconsuming, the source asserted that it would yield long-term benefits. The reforms aim to enforce greater accountability and responsibility, with oversight from both the party’s central control room in Delhi and its state-level offices. Explaining the shift in approach, the source noted that previously, appointments were typically finalised by the state unit chief, the CLP leader, and five to six other senior leaders. In contrast, the new process incorporates feedback from 900 to 1,000 people, thereby gauging a candidate’s broader acceptability within the district.

Observers from Haryana and Madhya Pradesh are expected to submit their reports to the party leadership by June 30, after which discussions with state leaders will be held before final appointments are made. Ultimately, the success of Gandhi’s vision for internal party democracy will be tested in the upcoming Assembly and local elections in these states.

</excerpt>

Congress high command closely monitors Rajasthan factionalism, aiming to strengthen party organisation and unity.

NEW DELHI: The Congress high command is keeping a close eye on factionalism in Rajasthan, as the party lost the last election due to internal divisions. This time, the high command is trying to control factionalism in Rajasthan, where the party is strong in terms of organisation. The existing team is being strengthened to curb factionalism effectively. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is personally engaged in campaigns to control factionalism in weaker states.

Rajasthan’s state in charge, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, recently held a meeting with state leaders in Delhi to gather information about the state’s situation. State President Govind Singh Dotasra, MLA party leader Tikaram Jully, incharge co-secretary Chiranjeev Rao, Rutvik Makwana, and Punam Paswan attended the meeting. These leaders submitted the state’s report to the party’s national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Saturday.

After meeting Kharge, the leaders shared details about ongoing campaigns and programmes being run by the party organisation in Rajasthan. Pending appointments in the state were also discussed. The high command emphasised further strengthening the state organisation. Gandhi may soon meet the state leaders personally.

Rajasthan is currently the only state where most district and city committees have been formed. Block committees will be announced soon. The remaining 13 districts, including Ajmer and Barmer, will also get new presidents shortly. The team of Dotasra and Jully is successfully mounting a strong front against the state government. However, National General Secretary Sachin Pilot and his faction are trying to convince the high command to let them become active again in the state.

The high command remains unconvinced by their activism and has asked Pilot to focus on his responsibility in Chhattisgarh, where he is the in charge. Pilot’s activism in Rajasthan is seen as promoting factionalism. During his recent visit to Jaipur, Kharge gave clear instructions to Pilot’s supporters to avoid lobbying and making controversial statements. Factionalism in Rajasthan Congress is well known.

On one side is the bloc led by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and on the other is Pilot’s faction. The conflict is largely centred around the post of state president. Gandhi has indicated several times that there is no need for change in the state leadership, as both appointments were made by him. Dotasra was appointed president by Gandhi after Pilot was sacked five years ago. Pilot had rebelled against the Gehlot government in 2020 along with some MLAs but failed to topple the government.

Following this, he was removed from the post of state president. Although Sachin is now trying to mend fences, a comeback in state politics appears difficult. Gandhi is not in favour of changing the current appointments. Congress is focusing on strengthening organisations where they are working well and focusing on weaker states where leaders are inactive. Consequently, Rajasthan has been kept away from programmes like organisational creation.

</excerpt>

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Thursday said he has “differences of opinion” with some in the party leadership, a re- mark that could lead to an- other round of turbulence in the grand old party. Breaking his silence over his absence from campaigning in the Nilambur bypolls in his home state Kerala, he further said he did not receive any invitation or missed call from the state leaders.

Speaking to reporters here, Tharoor, who is also the Congress Working Committee (CWC) mem- ber said: “I wasn’t invited by the party. But that’s al- right.” He made the remarks when asked about his ab- sence from the campaign trail in Nilambur where voting for the by election is under way. “First of all, I was gone for much of the time on this official diplomatic mission. When I came back there was no insistence, no missed call from the leader- ship saying I should come,” he said.

Tharoor also admitted of having differences with some party leaders and said, “I do have differences of opinion with some in the Congress leadership.”

The Congress leader also added that you (media) know what I am talking about, as some of those is- sues are there in the public domain and have been re- ported. He, however, didn’t divulge whether the dis- agreement was with the state or central leadership.

Tharoor also stressed on the importance of internal dialogue over public discourse and said, “I have been working in Congress for the past 16 years. I have some differences of opinion with the party, and I will discuss them inside the party… Today I don’t want to speak on it. I need to meet and talk, let the time come, and I will discuss it.”

Tharoor also urged the people to vote for Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath and dubbed him as a good candidate. He also said that party leaders and workers had worked a lot in the bypolls in Nilambur. His remarks came in the wake of criticism from his own party members when he had led an all-party delegation to five countries as part of global outreach programme to expose Pakistan on global platform and ex- plain India’s point in wake of Pahalgam terror attack and India carrying out Operation Sindoor.

Tharoor was also corrected by his own party leader after he said that India carried out surgical strikes for the first time after 2014.

</excerpt>

NEW DELHI: The Indian National Congress is facing a critical juncture in West Bengal as it grapples with deepening challenges related to a leadership vacuum, ideological disorientation, and an eroding grassroots base. Once a formidable political force in the state, the party now struggles for relevance amid the ascent of regional giants and shifting electoral preferences.

Party insiders concede that the Congress currently lacks a coherent and unified strategy in the state. Despite nationwide efforts to reestablish its presence through alliances and outreach campaigns, the West Bengal unit remains deeply fragmented, suffering from a glaring disconnect between top leadership and grassroots cadres. “There is no clear roadmap, no strategic planning, and a poor understanding of the issues that actually matter to Bengal’s people,” admitted a senior Congress leader from the state on condition of anonymity. The party’s organisational fragility has been further exposed by its lacklustre performance in recent elections, where it failed to leave a mark even in its traditional strongholds.

At the local level, party workers have expressed frustration over being ignored, with many district units functioning in name only—bereft of activity, guidance, or leadership. The ongoing exodus of senior Congress leaders has compounded the party’s woes. Several prominent figures have switched allegiance to the ruling Trinamool Congress. Most notably, former Congress MP Shankar Malakar recently joined the TMC and was swiftly elevated to the position of State Committee Vice President. Upon his induction, Malakar remarked, “The Congress today lacks direction and grassroots connection in Bengal. As an Opposition leader, I felt I could do little for the people and was growing increasingly alienated from them.”

The 70-year-old leader also criticised the State Congress leadership for lacking initiative and the central leadership for adopting a lenient approach toward rival parties in Bengal. Malakar, a two-time MLA from the Matigara-Naxalbari Assembly seat (2011 and 2016), holds significant influence as a prominent Scheduled Caste leader. Political analysts believe his shift to the TMC will bolster the party’s influence in north Bengal, particularly in constituencies like Matigara-Naxalbari, currently held by the BJP. His departure prompted a public expression of regret from former State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who said he was deeply saddened by Malakar’s decision.

Political experts attribute Congress’s downfall in Bengal to a combination of interrelated factors: the aggressive expansion of the TMC under Mamata Banerjee, the BJP’s steady consolidation of its voter base, and the Congress party’s chronic failure to adapt its leadership style or political messaging to the evolving dynamics of the state. While broader alliances such as the I.N.D.I.A bloc have created an opportunity for collaboration, the Congress’s diminished electoral significance has rendered it a marginal player within such formations. Although the party has attempted to revive public engagement through initiatives like padyatras (foot marches), press interactions, and block-level meetings, these efforts have largely failed to strike a chord with the electorate or gain substantial media traction.

“The Congress has lost its emotional connect with the people,” observed one political analyst. “Its presence in Bengal today is not just weak—it is barely visible and increasingly irrelevant.” With Bengal gearing up for the next Assembly elections, the Congress faces a pressing need for internal reforms. This includes asserting strong, state-specific leadership, addressing local issues with sincerity, and revitalising grassroots activism. Absent a bold and immediate transformation, the party’s rich

</excerpt>

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is currently focused on improving the party organisation through the Organisation Creation Campaign. However, the biggest question within the party is how the organisation can be strengthened at the lower levels without any change at the top. Despite continuous electoral defeats, no big leader has been held responsible so far.

Actually, Rahul is running this campaign based on suggestions from his sister, Priyanka Gandhi. Under this campaign, new district presidents are to be appointed. However, sources say that Priyanka wanted to handle this task herself, but the party did not give her the opportunity. As a result, Priyanka has limited her role these days.

As part of this campaign, Rahul has held meetings and discussions with leaders from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. He plans to visit other states for further discussions. The effort is to strengthen the Congress organisation from the grassroots level to the centre.

After continuous defeats, the party has taken up the task of organisational strengthening. A key issue arising from these meetings is how to deal with internal conflicts and identify BJP-supporting leaders within the party.

In Madhya Pradesh, Rahul caused some resentment by referring to certain leaders as “fast running,” “shadi wala,” and “lame horse.” Senior leaders expressed displeasure at these remarks, which could harm the party in the future. Some leaders might even switch parties to secure their positions. Many of Rahul’s close associates have already left the party and joined the BJP.

By using the term “lame horse,” Rahul seemed to target senior, aged leaders indirectly. Whatever his intentions, social media has started a campaign nationwide that harms Congress’s image.

Take Madhya Pradesh as an example. The party’s condition there is worrying. The current team was completely unsuccessful in the Lok Sabha elections and did not win a single seat. It remains to be seen whether Rahul will replace state president Jitu Patwari and legislative party leader Umang Singhar or continue with them.

A major question is where Rahul places leaders like former Chief Ministers Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh. Both wield significant influence across the state and have supported the Gandhi family in both good and bad times.

Kamal Nath is particularly known for his support. Both leaders remain politically active.

Whatever is happening on social media following Rahul’s statement, it appears that Congress is facing setbacks. His remarks in Bhopal have caused disappointment among senior Congress leaders across the country. Now, the issue of selecting district presidents has come up. Observers sent from Delhi are choosing the district presidents, raising another question: When the party elected district presidents through organisational elections just two and a half years ago, on what basis will they be removed now?

When observers from Delhi will selects district presidents, why would they listen to state leaders? This has prevented the party from making decisions in states like Gujarat, which was supposed to be the first for organisational change. The situation in Gujarat mirrors that of Madhya Pradesh.

In Haryana, Rahul made former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja meet face to face, but the question remains whether the party will sideline Hooda.

During the meeting, Hooda spoke openly, saying, “Everybody takes credit for victory, but no one for defeat.”

Rahul responded by saying, “I am the father of the party, so the responsibility for defeat is also mine.”

Under Rahul’s leadership, the party has lost three Lok Sabha and dozens of state elections, but no one has been held accountable. All office bearers remain in their positions. The discussion within the party is that without action against top leaders, how can the organisation strengthen at the lower levels?

Rahul talks big, but where will he find leaders recognised beyond their districts and states? Trusting inexperienced leaders during such difficult times is challenging. Making the organisation efficient is a huge task for Rahul. When responsibility is not fixed at the top level, changes at the lower levels will achieve little.

</excerpt>

Kolkata: The I.N.D.I.A bloc, once projected as a formidable challenge to the BJP-led NDA government, is now rapidly disintegrating. With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declaring its decision to contest the upcoming Bihar elections independently, the fragile unity of the opposition bloc has begun to unravel.

Despite receiving open support from the RJD in the Delhi elections, AAP has announced it will contest all seats in Bihar, revealing a clear intent to damage the Congress electorally. AAP blames Congress for its defeat in Delhi and alleges that the party deliberately targeted Muslim-majority constituencies to undercut AAP’s performance. In retaliation, AAP’s new strategy is to ensure Congress’s defeat wherever possible — not necessarily to win, but to divide votes and weaken it strategically.

While AAP has little electoral base in Bihar, its objective is to erode Congress’s support. Simultaneously, AAP has begun strengthening its presence in states like Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Goa, signalling a broader shift away from a collective opposition strategy.

Following suit, doubts are growing over the NCP (SP)’s long-term commitment to the I.N.D.I.A bloc. The party’s refusal to support the opposition’s demand for a Lok Sabha debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’ has raised clear signs of a possible future split. The very survival of the I.N.D.I.A bloc now hinges on the outcome of the upcoming Bihar elections. A defeat could prompt the Samajwadi Party and other regional players to chart their own course in Uttar Pradesh.

In states like Kerala and West Bengal, Congress already faces existential challenges. In Bengal, the contest is now directly between the TMC and BJP — with Congress virtually absent. In Kerala, the traditional two-front politics is shifting. Congress has been out of power for a decade, lacks senior leadership, and Rahul Gandhi’s reliance on a completely new team has sidelined experienced politicians. The party’s internal dissent became glaring post-Operation Sindoor, especially with MP Shashi Tharoor openly criticising the party line and appearing to align with the ruling government.

The BJP, on its part, is determined to block a Congress comeback in Kerala for the third consecutive term. All eyes are on the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a crucial Congress ally in the state. The IUML could reconsider its association, seeing the weakening position of Congress at the Centre — a potential move that would deal a heavy blow to the party.

In Kerala’s Neelambur by-election, a constituency under Priyanka Gandhi’s Wayanad seat, the TMC’s entry has further muddied the waters for Congress. Former Congress MLA P.V. Anwar is now contesting under the TMC banner, turning the seat into a multi-cornered contest. If Congress loses the June 19 vote, it will be a major embarrassment and a further sign of the party’s shrinking ground.

TMC is already preparing to contest aggressively in next year’s Kerala Assembly elections — another bad omen for Congress. In Bengal, the TMC has already sidelined Congress, leaving BJP as its primary opponent. The BJP’s previous success in winning over 70 seats in Bengal, and the active focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the state, signal a continued squeeze on Congress’s relevance there.

Just a year ago, the I.N.D.I.A bloc appeared poised to destabilise the NDA government. But internal fractures became evident during the Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections, with the TMC defying Congress’s strategy. The alliance never managed to agree on a PM face for 2024. Despite high hopes, Congress’s missteps in state elections — losses in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi — pulled the alliance back into crisis mode.

These setbacks shattered the alliance’s momentum. Within six months, meetings stopped, coordination failed, and enthusiasm vanished. Operation Sindoor further exposed the alliance’s vulnerabilities. Now, even the joint demand for a special Parliament session has failed to unite the bloc.

Key allies like AAP, NCP (SP), the Left, TMC, and possibly the SP and Shiv Sena (UBT) are already drifting away. The National Conference has effectively exited. Most partners are disillusioned. A defeat in Bihar could collapse the Mahagathbandhan and put RJD’s survival at risk too. The I.N.D.I.A bloc, once full of promise, now teeters on the edge of collapse — its unity undermined, its leadership questioned, and its future bleak.

</excerpt>

The Congress on Friday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reported intention to meet only NDA chief Ministers next week as an effort by the ruling BJP to draw “political mileage” from India’s military action under Operation Sindoor.

Jairam Ramesh Questions BJP’s Intentions

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh asked on X, “The PM has called for a meeting of ONLY NDA Chief Ministers on May 25th to take political mileage from Operation Sindoor. But he now wants MPs from all parties to go abroad as a delegation for explaining India’s stance on terrorism from Pakistan.”

Congress Alleges Double Standards

The opposition party stated that it “definitely” would be a part of international delegations but queried the BJP’s “double standards” by noting that PM Modi won’t be meeting Congress chief ministers on Operation Sindoor.

The prime minister and the BJP have been constantly defaming the Congress, said Ramesh, even as it demanded unity and solidarity between parties when India launched military action against Pakistan.

“The Prime Minister has not agreed to call a special session of Parliament that the Indian National Congress has been demanding to demonstrate a collective will and reiterate the resolution passed unanimously by Parliament on February 22, 1994,” the Congress general secretary said.

Congress to Join Delegations Despite Criticism

“Now suddenly the PM has decided to send multi-party delegations abroad to explain India’s stand on terrorism from Pakistan. The Indian National Congress always takes a position in the supreme national interest and never politicises national security issues like the BJP does. Hence, the INC will definitely be a part of these delegations,” he added.

India Launches Diplomatic Outreach Against Terrorism

From next week, the NDA government has scheduled to despatch a number of all-party delegations to a number of countries in a large-scale diplomatic offensive to target Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and bring attention to India’s military operation under Operation Sindoor.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is one of the important figures who will be part of one of these delegations. The government has approached MPs from different political parties, including opposition parties, and some parties have also approved their members’ participation in the diplomatic exercise.

</excerpt>

Congress on Tuesday removed, hours after it was posted, a contentious X post with an image apparently of Prime Minister Narendra Modi without the head, a post that invited “Lashkar-e-Pakistan” jibe from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BJP Slams Congress Over ‘Gayab’ Post on Modi

BJP on Tuesday attacked Congress for the tweet with the ‘Gayab’ (missing) message targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the social media tweet of the party sends a message to Pakistan that “Congress party stands with Pakistan”

Congress has been criticizing PM Modi for being missing from the recently convened all-party meeting following the Pahalgam terror attack.

BJP’s ‘Lashkar-e-Pakistan’ Jibe

Coming down heavily, national spokesperson and BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia blamed the Congress for aligning with the Pakistani narrative and diluting the country’s integrity.

“They are giving signals to Pakistan that in this terrorist attack, the Congress party stands with Pakistan and not with their own nation…This is not an innocent post by the Congress party. It is a sinister, poisonous design trying to weaken the integrity of our nation and target the Prime Minister of the country.”

Taking his criticism further, Gaurav Bhatia referred to the Congress as “Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress,” saying, “There is a national political party that stays among us, but if we call them Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress, it won’t be wrong. The Congress’s social media handle has tweeted an image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A strong message has been given to Pakistan that in India, the supporters of Mir Jafar are present here…’ Sar tan se juda’ has become the ideology of Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress today…”

The Congress, however, questioned the Prime Minister for “missing” in the all-party meeting on the Pahalgam attack.

Congress Responds with Clarification on Post featuring Modi

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said, “Although the Prime Minister returned (cutting short his visit to Saudi Arabia) on April 24 (when the meeting was held), he left for Bihar to address a rally. He has time for giving election speeches, but doesn’t he have time or interest for the all-party meeting?”

Earlier, the BJP had criticized the Congress over comments by some of their leaders on the Pahalgam attack. The Congress later clarified that the comments were personal opinions of the individuals and not the party line.

The poster was issued a day after Congress stated that the comments made by its leaders on Pahalgam April 22 terrorist attack killing 26 individuals do not represent party’s views, further stating that only comments made by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and views of authorized AICC office-bearers speak the party’s official line.

</excerpt>

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was involved in a heated confrontation with a police officer during a Congress rally in Belagavi on Friday. The incident, which occurred while the Chief Minister was addressing a crowd, has drawn strong reactions from political opponents and sparked controversy.

The incident took place when Siddaramaiah, standing on stage with Congress leaders and workers, was reportedly shown black flags by BJP supporters at the rally. Enraged by the protest, the Chief Minister snapped at Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Narayana Baramani.

Siddaramaiah was seen calling the officer over and asking him how such protests were allowed to take place inside the rally venue. “Hey, come here, who’s the SP? What are you guys doing?” the Chief Minister was heard saying, as tensions escalated. Witnesses said he raised his hand in a gesture resembling a slap towards Baramani, prompting the officer to swiftly step back.

Political Fallout: Opposition Condemns the CM’s Actions

The Chief Minister’s actions have stirred up political controversy, with several opposition leaders condemning his behavior. Janata Dal Secular (JDS) shared their disapproval in a post on social media, reminding Siddaramaiah that power is transient.

“Power is not permanent,” the JDS wrote. “Raising your hand to hit the police officer does not bring any glory to your position or dignity. Your term of office is only 5 years. But a government officer serves till the age of 60. Power is not permanent for anyone. Correct your misconduct.”

BJP Slams Siddaramaiah for ‘Disgraceful’ Behavior

The BJP has also taken a strong stance against Siddaramaiah’s behavior, calling it disgraceful. Karnataka BJP spokesperson Vijay Prasad criticized the CM’s arrogance and demanded an apology.

“Your act of raising your hand against a police officer is a disgrace of the highest order. Your arrogance has crossed all imaginable limits,” Prasad said. “You must immediately and unconditionally apologise to the officer you sought to humiliate. Your insatiable lust for power is corrupting your judgment.”

BJP MLA Basanagouda R Patil, a former Union Minister, also termed Siddaramaiah’s behavior as unexpected and called for an unconditional apology. “The Chief Minister is demoralising not only the Police officers but also the entire Police Department,” Patil said. “Such a mentality of harassing and manhandling Police Officers for lapses deserves the harshest condemnation.”

DK Shivakumar Issues Warning to BJP

Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar warned the BJP over the black flags at the rally. “I am warning you (BJP). You have to set things right and advise your party workers against such acts. If not, I will not let any event of yours happen in Karnataka,” Shivakumar said, emphasizing his readiness for any type of protest. “Let this be a warning,” he added.

This incident comes a day after Siddaramaiah faced backlash for his comments on India’s stance regarding Pakistan. The Chief Minister clarified his position after Pakistani media picked up his comments, saying that he did not mean there should be “no war” but rather that war should only occur if it is unavoidable.

Siddaramaiah’s remarks followed the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack and taken several diplomatic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.

The Congress party condemns the move, calling it a “state-sponsored crime.”
</excerpt>

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has lodged a chargesheet against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others relating to the investigation into the National Herald case. The chargesheet, filed on April 11, includes Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as accused. The action by the ED has drawn a sharp reaction from the Congress party, with the leaders accusing the ruling government of indulging in a political vendetta.

The charge sheet was perused by Special Judge Vishal Gogne, who will determine if he is to take cognizance of the case. The next hearing will be on April 25, 2025. Judge Gogne ordered the special counsel of the ED and the Investigating Officer (IO) to make the case diaries available at the time of the hearing.

Jairam Ramesh Slams Chargesheet Filing

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh lashed out sharply at the ED’s move on the social media platform X, terming the charging of chargesheets against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others “nothing but the politics of vendetta and intimidation.” Ramesh said, “Seizing the assets of the National Herald is a state-sponsored crime masquerading as the rule of law.” He added further, “The INC and its leadership will not be silenced. Satyameva Jayate.”

ED’s Move: Money Laundering Investigation in National Herald Case

This is coming after the ED initiated the process of seizing assets worth more than Rs 700 crore owned by the Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the firm behind publishing the National Herald daily newspaper. The assets involve prime location properties in Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow, including the famous Herald House in the national capital.

AJL is owned by Young Indian Private Limited, where Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have a 38% share each. The ED explained that this move is part of its probe into money laundering done under Section 8 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The seizure of property comes after the probe into the suspected financial malpractices pertaining to the publication of the National Herald newspaper.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s Stance

Both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have repeatedly denied the allegations and have accused the government of using investigative agencies to target them politically. According to the ED, the charges are based on their investigation into a money laundering case linked to AJL’s assets.

Congress Leaders Call it “State-Sponsored Crime”

Congress party leadership has criticized the filing of chargesheets, targeting the government for using investigative agencies for political ends. The charges against their leadership, the party leadership claims, are politically motivated and intended to muzzle criticism of the present government.

The filing of chargesheets also takes place at a time when there is increasing tension within the party, with Congress leadership criticizing the ruling BJP for targeting opposition leaders and muzzling their ability to voice opinion on public issues.

Robert Vadra Called by ED in Independent Case

In a connected development, businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, visited the ED office after he was summoned about a money laundering probe involving a land transaction in Shikohpur, Haryana. Vadra, who came to the ED office with his supporters, rejected the charges against him as politically motivated and said he was being targeted for his outspoken views on many issues.

He vented his ire at the repeated calls, saying, “When I speak for the country, I am halted. Rahul is halted from speaking in the Parliament. BJP is doing this. This is a political vendetta. People adore me and want me to enter politics. When I say I will enter politics, they call up old issues to discredit me and deflect from the core issues.”

Vadra, who has been called by the ED several times in the last 20 years, reaffirmed that he had nothing to hide and that he was cooperating fully with the investigation.

Political Fallout and Public Response on National Herald Case

The arrest of Congress leaders and the charges against them have set off a bitter political debate nationwide. The Congress party also insists that all this is part of a general effort to quell political opposition and silence free speech, particularly in any criticism of the government. As the judicial process goes on, the case remains a major source of dispute in Indian politics, with both sides gearing up for a high-stakes court battle.

The accusations against Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, along with the engagement of high-profile personalities such as Robert Vadra, reflect the strained relationships between the opposition Congress party and the ruling BJP, with political and legal consequences set to evolve in the foreseeable future.

“If Congress Wants Me…”: Robert Vadra Breaks Silence on Political Future

<excerpt>Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, said he’s ready to join politics if the Congress party and family support the move.
</excerpt>

Businessman Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, expressed his willingness to join politics, saying that if the Congress party feels he should take that step, he would do so with the blessings of his family.

Speaking to ANI in an exclusive interview on Monday, Vadra emphasised that his connection to politics has largely been due to his association with the Gandhi family. However, he stated that over the years, multiple political parties have tried to pull him into political discussions, often using his name as a distraction during elections or other issues.

“My association with politics is only because I am a member of the Gandhi family. But I will also say that in the last many years, many parties have used my name and always pulled me into politics by default because every time there’s an election, they remember my name. Every time they have an issue that they want to digress from, they remember my name,” Vadra said, adding that it has often felt like a political witch hunt and vendetta.

He noted that his family, particularly his wife, Priyanka and brother-in-law, Rahul Gandhi, has been a great source of learning, and they actively participate in Parliament.

“I always said that I would like Priyanka to be in Parliament first, and now she is, and she’s working very hard. I see how much I’ve learnt from her and from Rahul and everybody in the family,” he added.

Vadra emphasised that if the Congress party decides he should join politics, he would take that step, understanding the need for more voices in Parliament to fight divisive forces and work toward keeping the country secular.

“So I feel that, with the blessings of my family and if the Congress feels that I should be in politics, I will take that step. They know I have a lot of understanding of what’s happening on the ground and what change is required,” Vadra said.

In addition, Vadra also commented on the recent arrest of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi in Belgium. He termed the arrest a “very big thing for the country” but stressed that while the arrest is important, the focus should now shift to recovering the stolen money and ensuring the people affected by the financial fraud are compensated.

“It is a very big thing for the country. Arresting is a different thing, but it is important that the money of the people who have been wronged should be recovered, and the government should think about it. Nirav Modi and other people should also be brought back, and the government should ensure that the losses of the people are taken care of,” Vadra said.

Mehul Choksi was arrested in Belgium on Saturday after local authorities confirmed his presence in the country. The 65-year-old fugitive diamond merchant who left India on January 2, 2018, is wanted by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for allegedly defrauding the PNB of Rs 13,850 crore. His nephew, Nirav Modi, was also involved with him in the fraud.

</excerpt>

Even as Congress is all set to hold its two-day meeting beginning on Tuesday, the party sources indicated that the leadership will discuss major issues confronting the nation under the BJP-led government at the Centre and chalk out the grand old party’s strategy to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level by giving more powers to the district committee chiefs who will have their say in deciding the candidates for assembly or general elections.

According to party sources, thr meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), party’s highest decision makig body will first hold the meeting on Tuesday morning and will be chaired by its Chief Mallikarjun Kharge and also attended by several CWC members.

The source indicated that the party will discuss to empower the district Committees across the country, with discussion all set to take on four points — to check the voter list at the district level during assembly or general elections, do crowdfunding at district level to hold ideological as well as political battle on the ground, giving them representation in the Central Election Committee, where they can join the meeting along with the state incharge and state unit chiefs and will have their say in deciding the party’s candidates.

The source fuether said that there is likely to be discussion on dissolving all the district Committees, barring the election bound states and some states where the district Committees have been formed few days or weeks ago.

The source further claimed that the party also plans to provide financial empowerment to district Committees and also some discussion are said to take place on Gujarat where the election is all set to take place in 2027.

The source also said that discussion will also take place on fulfilling the several decisions taken during the 2021 Udaipur Nav Chintan Shivir, of giving more representation to women, providing more powers to district Committees and also bring changes in party’s.constirurion to give powers to district Committees in the CEC.

The AICC Session, being held in Gujarat after 64 years, has become important in the wake of the discontent among Muslims over the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament last week. The Congress opposed the Bill tooth and nail during the debate in both Houses.

Notably, the last Congress’ session in Gujarat was held under the presidency of Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy at Bhavnagar on January 6-7, 1961. The first session was held in Ahmedabad under the presidentship of Surendra Nath Bannerjee on December 23-26, 1902.

“Nyaypath: Sankalp, Samarpan, and Sangharsh” is the theme of the two-day programme of the AICC.

The Congress has been out of power in the state since 1995.

In Ahmedabad, in various places including outside the airport, cutouts of the Congress top brass including Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have been put to welcome them. Besides, cutouts, hoardings and party flags can also be seen.

Even the Ghilbi style posters of Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal was also put at several places near Sabarmati River Front.

Earlier, Congress general secretary in-charge of Organistion KC Venugopal said, “On April 8, the Extended Congress Working Committee will meet at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency and the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, both iconic figures born in Gujarat,” he said.

He informed that the meeting would be attended by CWC members, permanent and special invitees, PCC presidents, CLP leaders, council leaders, CEC members, office bearers of CPP office, former CMs and Deputy CMs. Approximately 169 people will attend on the first day.

“On April 9, the AICC session will take place, with around 1,725 elected AICC members and co-opted members attending, along with MPs, ministers, and other senior leaders,” he added.

It may be mentioned that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Gandhi in March had called for a structural overhaul in the Gujarat Congress during his visit to the state. He had asserted that a faction within the party is “conniving with the BJP from within”.

The Assembly elections in Gujarat are scheduled to be held at the end of 2027.

</excerpt>

Is 68-year-old Shashi Tharoor, who reigns in the hearts of the youths, rebelling against the Congress these days? I don’t think so at all. He is a good friend of mine, and I know his nature very closely. Shashi Tharoor is a highly outspoken person who never hesitates in speaking the truth. His personality is so impressive that any political party would want to have him on its side — he is popular across party lines. Despite this, if he remains with Congress, it is because of his deep understanding of the party’s core principles. Speaking the truth can never be considered a rebellion!
When Shashi Tharoor contested for the post of Congress president, his aim was to attract the youths and infuse new energy and vigour into the party. Many people still believe that if Tharoor had become the president of the party, Congress’ position would have been entirely different. We are all well aware of Tharoor’s multifaceted personality — he stands out in a crowd. Yet, if he feels that the party is not making proper use of his abilities and that he has been sidelined after contesting the party president’s post, this is a great loss for the Congress itself. I have no hesitation in saying that Congress currently lacks a leader of Tharoor’s stature. He understands not only the pulse of the country but is also not aloof to that of the world.

Another remarkable quality of his is that despite being so knowledgeable, he never imposes his intellect on others. His behaviour is simple and humble. The idea of bringing Shashi Tharoor into politics first came to Dr Manmohan Singh. Since 2009, he has been consecutively elected as a Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram on Congress ticket. In Manmohan Singh’s cabinet, he served as the Minister of State for External Affairs and later as the Minister of State for Human Resource Development. Considering his capabilities, he should have been given a cabinet rank, but he never made such a demand. What deeply troubled him, however, was that a faction within Congress was constantly targeting Dr Manmohan Singh. This sycophantic faction could never tolerate Shashi Tharoor. He was also an active participant in Ghulam Nabi Azad’s G-23 group, where he raised critical questions about the party leadership. Naturally, this faction remains displeased with him even today.

About two weeks ago, Shashi Tharoor called on Rahul Gandhi. He told Rahul that he was not being given the opportunity to speak during important debates in Parliament and that he was continuously being overlooked. What Rahul Gandhi replied is not known, but I have never understood how any party could ignore a leader like Tharoor. With a speaker of his calibre, the party could make a strong impact. From 2014 to 2019, Mallikarjun Kharge was made the leader of the parliamentary party, and from 2019 to 2024, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was given that role — when actually a powerful orator like Shashi Tharoor was present in the House! Just recall the moment when Tharoor stood at Oxford and delivered a fact-based speech on Britain’s exploitation of India — the entire nation applauded! That’s because he speaks with solid facts.

In the past few years, Congress has made many internal changes. Recently, two new general secretaries were appointed, and several state in-charges were reshuffled. Yet, there was neither a place for Tharoor, nor was it contemplated. In fact, the All India Professionals’ Congress (AIPC), which was entirely his creation, was taken away from him!
Shashi Tharoor praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US recently, calling it a success. He wrote, “Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with US President Donald Trump has resulted in some important outcomes that are beneficial for the people of our country. I believe something positive has been achieved, and as an Indian, I appreciate it. I have spoken entirely in the national interest in this matter.”

Earlier, he had also praised Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In one of his articles, he commended Kerala’s leftist government, stating that the state was well-positioned to lead India’s technological and industrial transformation.
These statements caused outrage within the Congress. Amid this controversy, Tharoor responded, saying, “I am with Congress, but if the party does not need me, I also have options.” Tharoor speaks with such confidence because of his strong grassroot support. His victory from the Thiruvananthapuram parliamentary seat, even during the Modi wave, proves his strong connection with the electorate. He wants Congress to contest next year’s Kerala Assembly elections under his leadership to ensure victory. But does the party care?

I keep wondering as to why the Congress, which was once the heartbeat of the nation, has not returned to power in Tamil Nadu for 58 years, in West Bengal for 48 years, in Kerala for 41 years, in Uttar Pradesh for 36 years, in Bihar for 35 years, in Gujarat for 30 years, and in Odisha for 25 years! In Delhi, the party has been wiped out. It is out of power in Punjab. In Maharashtra, the party is in shambles. What has happened to the Congress? Millions of party workers are asking the same question. But does the top leadership ever reflect on this? Answering this question is difficult! For now, pay heed to what Shashi Tharoor recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Where ignorance is bliss, ’Tis folly to be wise.’’

He protested Medicaid cuts and vowed impeachment efforts.
</excerpt>

United States President Donald Trump gave the longest speech to a joint Congress on Tuesday, March 4. He began on a jubilant tone, praising the achievements of his administration before coming out guns blazing against Democrats and his predecessor Joe Biden. Trump also touched on some of the major issues of tariffs, wokeness, and his top policy priorities after returning to power on January 20.

While Republicans cheered throughout, Democrats mostly responded with silent protests. However, one Democratic lawmaker, Al Green, faced ejection from the House chamber after interrupting Trump’s speech.

Rep. AI Green was ejected from a Trump speech after heckling the president. The incident adds fuel to the ongoing political tension. Thoughts on protests like this? ? #AIGreen #Trump #Politics #Protest pic.twitter.com/uYTSpEUuFz

Who Is Al Green?

Al Green represents Texas’ 9th Congressional District, a predominantly African American constituency. The 78-year-old Democrat is currently serving his ninth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Born in Louisiana, Green raised his family in humble conditions. A seasoned civil rights activist, he has waged battles on behalf of oppressed peoples throughout his working life. In accordance with his official website, he has at all times defended the voices of the unheard.

Green was educated at Florida A&M University, Howard University, and the Tuskegee Institute (today’s Tuskegee University) before receiving a law degree at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1973.

He is also a member of the Financial Services Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security. Previously, he had been Justice of the Peace for Harris County, Texas, and president of the Houston chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Green has opposed Donald Trump for many years, joining the call to impeach the former president early in his first term.

Why Was Al Green Removed from the House?

Texas Rep. Al Green interrupted Trump’s joint address to Congress by vociferously protesting the president’s assertion of having a mandate.

At the beginning of Trump’s speech, Green stood up and yelled, “Mr. President, you don’t have a mandate!” about proposed Medicaid reductions. Pointing his cane at Trump repeatedly to stress his protest, his outburst brought both cheers and boos and a brief moment of chaos to the House chamber. Trump paused his speech for a few moments as lawmakers responded to Green’s interruption.

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace was quick to rebuke Green, shouting, “Sit your a** down!” Reuters reported.

House Speaker Mike Johnson then read from House rules aloud, reminding members to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion. “Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions,” Johnson said.

Although cautioned, Green remained standing defiantly. Johnson instructed the sergeant-at-arms to have the Democratic lawmaker led out of the chamber.

When Green was escorted out, Republican lawmakers chanted mockingly, “Hey, hey, hey, goodbye.” Such a sergeant-at-arms ejection of a member of Congress from the chamber during a joint session is a rarity in contemporary history.

— MSNBC (@MSNBC) March 5, 2025

Green Defends His Protest

Talking to the press after his removal, Green justified that his stand was based on Trump’s budget cuts to Medicaid, a federal health insurance scheme for low-income citizens.

“As a person of conscience, I believe Trump has done things that I think we cannot allow to continue,” Green said to NBC News.

“This whole budget that he has is one that is going to cause Medicaid to be cut, and when he said he had a mandate, it triggered something. It really did. Because he doesn’t have a mandate, and he doesn’t have a mandate to cut health care from poor people,” Green added.

The Texas senator also said he is drafting articles of impeachment on Trump. “This is the richest country in the world, and we have people who don’t have good health care. We’ve got to do better and now we’re about to cut Medicaid, which is for [the] poor,” he told BBC.

Even threatened with disciplinary actions against him over his protest, Green stood his ground, insisting that he would not mind suffering the consequences.

Although Trump promised the public that he would not touch Medicaid, his words have done little to calm fears. New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went live on Instagram after Trump’s speech, cautioning that Trump and the Republican Party “are coming for Medicaid.”

Other Protests During Trump’s Speech

Green’s disruption was not the only protest type during Trump’s speech. Some Democratic lawmakers, the females among them, showed opposition to the administration’s policies regarding women’s rights and the family by dressing in pink.

Most Democrats also wore blue and yellow ties as a show of solidarity with Ukraine, where Trump recently had a tense argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office.

Other Democratic legislators carried signs with the words “Musk steals,” “false,” and “save Medicaid.” They protested Trump’s move to assign billionaire Elon Musk the task of downsizing the federal workforce and trimming government expenses.

Trump’s Policy Announcements

Throughout his long speech, Trump announced several significant policy proposals.

He reaffirmed his government’s war on illegal immigration and gender identity policies, asserting, “There are only two genders—male and female.” He also canceled federal diversity and inclusion programs, saying, “The U.S. will be woke no longer.”

Trump also defended his economic policy, such as suspending military aid to Ukraine and levying new tariffs. He increased tariffs on Chinese products from 10% to 20% and levied a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico.

The president centered his speech around what he described as the “renewal of the American dream.”

</excerpt>

Democratic Michigan Senator and ex-CIA analyst Elissa Slotkin fired a blistering rejoinder at Donald Trump’s Congressional speech. Slotkin criticized the ex-president of spreading policies that would load Americans up economically and destroy democratic institutions.

Trump’s Policies Will Cost Americans, Says Slotkin

Slotkin, 48, who narrowly won a Senate contest in 2024, was not shy in her denunciation. “Trump was going to make you pay in every part of your life,” she warned, pointing out that his policies would increase the cost of healthcare. She also denounced his foreign policy, saying that he was “cosying up to dictators like Vladimir Putin.”

She graduated from Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills and went on to receive a degree in sociology from Cornell University in 1998. She then received a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University in 2003.

Slotkin is fluent in Arabic and Swahili and was recruited by the CIA. She worked three tours in Iraq as a Middle East analyst.

She served in major national security positions in both Republican and Democratic administrations at the White House, State Department, and Department of Defense. Between 2015 and 2017, she was Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, leading counter-ISIS efforts and countering Russian aggression.

Her entry into politics was motivated by personal experience: her mother’s fight against ovarian cancer, complicated by the high cost of healthcare because of pre-existing conditions.

In 2018, she turned a Republican district in Michigan into a win for a seat in the House of Representatives. In 2024, she beat former Congressman Mike Rogers to take a Senate seat, becoming the youngest Democratic woman in the Senate at 48. She is a member of the Armed Forces, Homeland Security, Agriculture, and Veterans Affairs Committees.

Slotkin Calls Out Trump’s Economic Claims

Slotkin rejected Trump’s economic promises and cited a contentious tweet by billionaire Elon Musk: “Elon Musk just called Social Security the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.” She concurred with reducing government waste but contended that reform “doesn’t have to be crazy or make us less secure.”

A Warning on Democracy

Beyond economic concerns, Slotkin warned of broader threats to democracy. Drawing on her national security background, she urged vigilance. “I’ve seen democracies flicker out,” she cautioned. “You can’t criticize the guys in charge without getting a knock on the door in the middle of the night.”

Her words highlight her role as a fierce critic of Trump, casting herself as an advocate for stability and accountability in Washington. As the next election cycle approaches, her words will further ignite discussions about America’s economic future and democratic integrity.

Investigation continues with rapid urgent progress.
</excerpt>

The body of 22-year-old Himani Narwal, a Congress worker from Kathura village in Sonepat, was discovered stuffed in a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway on Saturday. Police report that visible injury marks on her neck suggest she was strangled, and preliminary findings indicate she may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the scene.

Discovery and Initial Findings

Commuters near the Sampla bus stand, approximately 200 meters away, noticed an abandoned suitcase and alerted the authorities. When officers opened the suitcase, they found Narwal’s body with distinct injury marks on her neck. Rohtak police spokesperson Sunny Loura confirmed that forensic teams were promptly dispatched to the scene for evidence collection and further investigation.

Investigation Underway

Sampla Police Station SHO Bijender Singh stated that the forensic teams are currently analysing CCTV footage and call records to determine when the suitcase was left at the location. Authorities suspect that Narwal was murdered elsewhere, and her body was later placed inside the suitcase before being dumped near the bus stand. Unknown individuals have been booked under sections 103(1) and 238(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following a complaint filed by sub-inspector Narender.

Political Community Reacts

Narwal, known for performing with Haryanvi folk artistes at Congress rallies and participating in events with Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, had actively taken part in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana. Her death has sparked shock and outrage among Congress leaders. Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra urged the formation of a special investigation team to ensure swift justice. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned the incident as a “blot on the state’s law and order,” highlighting that Haryana has become increasingly unsafe for women.

Broader Concerns Over Safety

Hooda also criticised the current administration, pointing to troubling crime data from the National Crime Records Bureau and the Union Government’s Social Progress Index. He emphasised that violent crimes, including murders, rapes, and kidnappings, have reached alarming levels in Haryana, likening the state’s lawlessness to “jungle raj.”

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading to Himani Narwal’s untimely death. The case has not only raised serious concerns about public safety in the region but also ignited calls for a thorough and impartial probe to ensure that those responsible face strict legal action. The family of the deceased remains silent on the matter as the community and political leaders demand accountability and enhanced security measures for women.

</excerpt>

The deadlock that had stalled and affected the Rajasthan assembly for the past six days was finally resolved on Thursday evening, following the intervention of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The Chief Minister played a pivotal role in ending the stand-off, prioritising the interests of the people of the state. On Thursday evening, Sharma personally reached the assembly and initiated talks with Leader of the Opposition, Tikaram Juli, in the Chief Minister’s chamber. The meeting, which also included Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, resulted in positive talks and resolved the deadlock.

Subsequently, Juli informed all Congress MLAs, who then returned to the assembly. In his address, Juli acknowledged that the controversy had been sparked by a remark made by a minister regarding Indira Gandhi. He thanked the Chief Minister for facilitating the talks and admitted that Congress leader Govind Singh Dotasra’s comment was inappropriate. Juli expressed his regret and offered an apology, marking the end of the deadlock and the resumption of normal assembly proceedings.

CM Emphasises Responsibility And Restraint In Assembly

Sharma, addressing the assembly, highlighted the importance of rules and regulations within the House. He emphasised that the most important rule is restraint, as the time of the House is valuable. Referring to the recent disruption in the House, which lasted for two to three days, he explained that despite calls to adjourn the proceedings, he insisted on keeping the session ongoing. He further added that the assembly is a space where the people of Rajasthan expect their concerns to be addressed.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that sometimes comments are made in the heat of the moment, and while many can tolerate such remarks, others might not. He stressed that with position comes the responsibility to manage one’s behaviour accordingly. He used the metaphor, “The tree with fruits is the one that bends,” to suggest that those in prominent positions must exhibit greater patience and understanding. Sharma concluded by stating that maintaining the House is a shared responsibility, not just of the ruling party, but of all 200 MLAs.

The Chief Minister advised both the ruling party and opposition to be mindful of the public’s perception of their representatives. He emphasised that if any member makes a wrong statement, they should reflect on it, as it would weigh on their conscience. He urged that every word spoken in the assembly should be carefully considered, as words can have a significant impact and should be chosen thoughtfully.

“The opposition is our strength,” the Chief Minister said.

“The entire incident happened in two or two and a half minutes that day. We did not get time, and everything happened.”

He also mentioned that if any of the opposition MLAs speaks well, he congratulates them.

“I had also called the Leader of the Opposition to tell him that you spoke well. We have to learn to call wrong, wrong.”

Will Ask Dotasra To Improve His Conduct: Devnani

On the whole episode, Devnani said that the incident was very serious and worrisome.

“I have never heard such words in my parliamentary life,” he stated.

He added that after the episode, he himself had been in touch with the Chief Minister and opposition leaders regarding the deadlock. He also said that if both parties form a committee, he had no problem cooperating. Devnani stated that the member, for whose words the Leader of Opposition has expressed regret, will also be asked to improve his conduct.

“We will ensure his conduct and discipline in the future. These comments are not forgivable, but trusting you, I say that this should not happen again so that the House runs smoothly.”

Chief Whip Brings Proposal To Reinstate Suspension

Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg advised that while fierce opposition is acceptable, there should always be room for reconciliation. He then proposed the withdrawal of the suspension of six Congress MLAs, including Dotasra. The proposal was approved, and following the end of the suspensions, the Leader of Opposition began his speech on the budget.

BJP has dismissed the allegations, accusing Congress of seeking foreign intervention.
</excerpt>

The Congress party has stepped up its criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after former US President Donald Trump’s assertion that he had given $21 million to “friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase voter turnout in India. Congress has demanded transparency, asking for a White Paper on foreign funding to political parties and related organizations. The BJP, meanwhile, has rubbished the controversy, terming Rahul Gandhi a “traitor” and accusing Congress of enabling foreign interference.

Congress Questions BJP’s Silence

At a press conference on Saturday, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera mocked the BJP’s silence over the matter, referring to the controversy as “a matter between two friends.” He accused the party in power of profiteering from foreign money and asked where the money reportedly received was spent.

“Trump’s statement confirms that he has sent this money to Modi to affect elections. Given that we have been raising an eyebrow over trends in voter turnout, is this surge because of foreign money?” Khera queried, calling for a White Paper on all foreign financial donations to Indian political parties and cultural organizations.

USAID Funding and Foreign Influence Allegations

Referring to a Washington Post report that refuted allegations of US financing of Indian elections, Khera claimed the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have always charged civil society organizations of foreign interference while profiting from USAID donations themselves. He pointed out that USAID gave $650 million to India from FY 2021 to FY 2024 and questioned its real intention. He demanded that the funds should be made public.

Khera also attributed previous USAID disbursals to major political developments in India, such as the emergence of Narendra Modi as the BJP prime ministerial candidate and the establishment of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “Who gained from these monies?” he questioned, calling for legal action to be taken against those spreading “false narratives” to fool the country.

Trump’s Controversial Claim

The controversy started after Elon Musk’s DOGE platform claimed that a $21 million USAID grant was meant to increase voter turnout in India. Trump escalated the claim, saying, “Why do we have to spend USD 21 million for voter turnout in India? I guess they (the Biden administration) were attempting to get somebody else elected. We have got to tell the Indian government.”

Despite the Washington Post finding that no such program had existed, Trump kept on repeating the claims unsubstantiated. Trump also raised an eyebrow at how a lot of money was being spent on holding elections abroad while efforts on voting in America were lacking.

BJP’s Counterattack: Brands Rahul Gandhi as a “Traitor”

The BJP has responded aggressively, accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of seeking foreign intervention to remove Modi from power. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that foreign interference was a hallmark of Congress governance, alleging that over $2,000 million in USAID funding entered India between 2004 and 2013, while only $1.5 million was received during Modi’s tenure.

While the BJP characterized The Washington Post report as a “cover-up,” it still has not presented any concrete reply denying the USAID funding accusation.

Congress Demands a Thorough Probe

The Congress has demanded that the White Paper on foreign funding proposed should not be exclusive to USAID but include all foreign funding assistance under Indian law. The party demanded that PM Modi himself clarify the government’s position and respond to the allegations personally.

“The RSS-BJP and their universe are creating false stories against good civil society organizations, NGOs, and political parties. These actors need to be named and shamed and also booked for fooling the country,” stated Pawan Khera.

Clarification on Election Commission and IFES Agreement

The opposition also dismissed BJP’s argument that an agreement between the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in 2012 created foreign influence on elections. Khera clarified that IFES was only involved in creating an election management curriculum and did not have any mandate to influence home polls.

“The IFES was hired by the ECI to prepare a curriculum in election management, not to meddle in Indian elections,” Khera said. “The training manual was utilized for electoral officials globally, not for national polls. The website of the ECI claims that 69,362 officials from 109 nations have been trained under this program.”

Political War Intensifies

While this war of words continues, Khera himself posted on Twitter, taunting the BJP as follows: “In this recent expose on so-called US funding to boost India’s voter turnout, The Washington Post verifies that there was no such program and no such money received. Crow is part of the daily meal for the BJP and its blind followers. Who else will consume crow after this farce of a fiasco?”

The BJP, however, continues to claim that foreign powers have sought to undermine Modi’s leadership, making Congress complicit in external interference.

With Trump continuing to push the voter turnout funding claim and Congress demanding a comprehensive probe into foreign contributions, the issue remains a flashpoint in Indian politics. The BJP’s counterattack against Rahul Gandhi and the opposition’s insistence on accountability ensure that this controversy is far from over.

</excerpt>

New Delhi: After its defeat in Haryana, the Congress leadership finds itself in a tough spot. The party has appointed senior leader V.K. Hariprasad as in-charge general secretary, but uncertainty remains over whether he can find a middle ground. His biggest challenge will be reaching a consensus on the names for state president and legislative party leader.

For the past 25 years, the Gandhi family has struggled to make independent decisions regarding Haryana. This time, all eyes are on Rahul Gandhi to see if he can take a bold step, as the party’s influence in the state is already diminishing. Angering any faction could prove risky. Sources suggest that some leaders have even threatened to split the party, and speculation is rife that a few Congress MLAs are in talks with the BJP. The party’s current crisis is being attributed to Rahul Gandhi’s alleged indifference toward state affairs.

Had Rahul Gandhi taken strict action against those responsible for the Haryana debacle, the situation might have been different. As always, Congress failed to hold anyone accountable for the loss. Following the defeat, the Congress Working Committee formed a panel led by former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan leader Harish Chaudhary to analyze the reasons behind the loss. However, their findings remained unclear. Ironically, both leaders were later rewarded—Baghel was made Punjab in-charge, while Chaudhary, who had lost his post after Punjab’s defeat, was handed charge of Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, a bigger setback for Congress had already unfolded in Maharashtra, adding to the party’s troubles.

Confusion Over Action Against Leaders

Congress leadership remains confused about whom to take action against. While Maharashtra got a new state president, Haryana continues to be a major headache. Before the elections, Rahul Gandhi had placed complete trust in former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his MP son Deepender Hooda. His close advisors, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and Treasurer Ajay Maken, also heavily endorsed the Hooda family, assuming victory was certain. They had even begun planning for the post-election scenario. However, as polling day approached, they sensed an impending defeat.

Sensing the loss, Maken reportedly pressured his relatives to facilitate the return of former Congress leader Ashok Tanwar, who had previously left the party. Despite Tanwar’s return, Congress could not prevent the inevitable defeat.

New Power Struggle Emerges

Following the election setback, another power struggle erupted within Haryana Congress. Senior leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Kumari Selja staked their claim over the state unit, seeking key leadership positions for their loyalists. However, the Hooda faction is unwilling to relinquish control. With Venugopal and Maken unable to intervene, the party is stuck in a deadlock.

For Rahul Gandhi, Haryana remains as challenging today as it was when he entered politics 25 years ago. Neither he nor his mother, Sonia Gandhi, has ever been able to make independent decisions regarding the state. They have consistently acted under pressure from various factions. The question now is, will Rahul Gandhi finally take a decisive stand, or will he once again bow to political pressure.

</excerpt>

New Delhi: Even as Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge carried out a major reshuffling in the grand old party with back to back setbacks in three assembly polls, the party has towed the line of party leader Rahul Gandhi as he has been echoing the sentiment of providing their share as per the population.

Rahul Gandhi has been echoing the voice for providing equal opportunity to the youths as per their population share across the country.

He has also been voicing for the caste-based census across the country.

With the new list, where the party appointed two new general secretaries and nine incharges, the party has tried to present a balance of caste and religion in thr party, which Rahul Gandhi has been advocating for last two years.

The party made former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, an OBC face and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain, a Muslim face as general secretaries of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and ladakh respectively.

Similarly, the party also appointed nine incharges with three Brahmin face and rest from the SC, OBC and backward and tribal community.

The party appointed Meenakshi Natrajan as Telangana incharge, Krishna Allavaru as Bihar incharge and Girish Chodankar as Tamil Nadu and Puducherry incharge, all three Brahmin faces and Rajani Patil, a Kunbi Maratha OBC face has been made the incharge of Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, K Raju, a Dalit face coming from SC community has been made the incharge of Jharkhand, while BK Hariprasad also an OBC face has been given the charge of Haryana.

Similarly, Ajay Kumar Lallu, who is also the party’s OBC face has been given the charge of Odisha while Harish Chaudhary, also an OBC face has been made the incharge of Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Saptgiri Sankar Ulaka, a tribal face from Odisha has been made the incharge of Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim and Tripura.

Similarly, Rajani Patil has been made the incharge of Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh in the fresh reshuffling in the party.

Even, interestingly, when Rahul Gandhi was appointed General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) as incharge of the party’s two important frontals – Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) in 2007, Natrajan, Allavaru, Chaudhary, Lallu and Raju groomed under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

The new reshuffling carried out by Kharge to continue party’s General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal has made him more stronger as he has cemented his position in the party.

Venugopal was appointed as party general secretary organisation in 2017. Soon he came into the trusted group of leaders in the Gandhi family.

It was Venugopal, who himself led from the front after party faced the humiliating defeat in 2018 Lok Sabha and Rahul Gandhi resigning as party chief.

He also dealt with G23 leaders in 2020 and led the party during the crucial Covid pandemic time.

In today’s date Venugopal is one of the trusted aide of Rahul Gandhi as well as of Kharge.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Congress new team will spell some magic in the election bound state of Bihar where assembly poll is scheduled later this year.

Kharge, during the extended CWC, party’s highest decision making body of the party in Karnataka’s Belagavi had talked about the accountability and responsibility.

</excerpt>

New Delhi: Congress on Monday again distanced itself from the views expressed by Indian Overseas Congress chairman Sam Pitroda, who stirred a hornet nest with his remarks that the threat from China is often blown out of proportion and suggested that India needs to stop considering the neighbouring country as an enemy.

In an interview from US, Pitroda, who is not new to controversies, while speaking on how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump would be able to control the threats from China stirred a new controversy with his comments giving fresh ammunition to the BJP.

The Indian Overseas Congress chairman said, “I don’t understand the threat from China. I think this issue is often blown out of proportion because the US has a tendency to define an enemy. I believe the time has come for all nations to collaborate, not confront. Our approach has been confrontational from the very beginning, and this attitude creates enemies, which in turn garners support within the country. We need to change this mindset and stop assuming that China is the enemy from day one.”

However, soon Congress general secretary and communication incharge Jairam Ramesh distanced the party from his comments and also said that China remains India’s foremost foreign policy, external security as well as economic challenege.

In a post on X, Ramesh said, “The views reportedly expressed by Sam Pitroda on China are most definitely NOT the views of the Indian National Congress.”

He said, “China remains our foremost foreign policy, external security, as well as economic challenge. The INC (Indian National Congress) has repeatedly raised questions on the Modi government’s approach to China, including the Prime Minister’s public clean chit to it on June 19, 2020. Our most recent statement on China was on 28th January, 2025.”

“It is also extremely regrettable that Parliament is being denied an opportunity to discuss the situation and express a collective resolve to meet these challenges effectively,” the Congress leader added.

This is not the first time that the Congress has distanced itself from Pitroda’s remarks. Last year, ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections, Pitroda had stirred controversy when he talked about the US inheritance tax law as well as he once again made racial comments.

Coming under fire from the BJP, Ptiroda had then resigned from his post. However, after Lok Sabha polls he was again appointed the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress.

</excerpt>

The Congress party on Saturday called for the regulation of private coaching centres that prepare students for jobs and professional courses, alleging that many of them were engaging in “crass profiteering” and “exploiting gullible people.”

Speaking at a press conference at the AICC office, party leader Kanhaiya Kumar, a permanent invitee to the CWC, expressed concerns over the unchecked growth of these coaching centres. He claimed that they were “exploiting students” and that some were disappearing after charging high fees.

Kumar urged the government to ensure that “vacancies are filled in a transparent manner by conducting examinations in a fair manner.”

Highlighting the struggles of young aspirants, Kumar alleged that many were being pushed to the brink of desperation, citing an alarming statistic: “on average, 28 students are committing suicide daily in the country.”

“The government should take responsibility… it is the result of systematic failure,” he asserted, emphasizing that excessive pressure and “lack of employment opportunities” were major concerns.

He pointed out that for some job openings with only about 100 vacancies, there were “lakhs of aspirants” who sought coaching center assistance.

Kumar stressed the need for the government to strengthen public institutions, stating that this would, in turn, ensure better performance from the private sector.

Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi face mounting pressure to secure political victories, with challenges in states like Bihar, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh. The growing discontent within the party could further harm its political prospects.
</excerpt>

New Delhi: Congress party has faced setbacks with continuous defeats in vidhan sabha elections in many states. Following the BJP’s victory in Delhi, there are signs that the opposition may face significant disintegration, with Congress likely to bear the brunt. This upcoming political phase will be a critical test for Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, shaping their future and the party’s direction. The results in Delhi have left Congress allies, including RJD, SP, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, anxious about their own political futures.

Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), now more focused on Congress than BJP, will target Congress heavily, particularly with the upcoming challenge of securing Punjab. Kejriwal has taken charge of the situation himself, summoning all Punjab ministers and MLAs to Delhi. AAP aims to corner Congress in Delhi, sending a strong message ahead of Punjab elections. As a result, Congress will likely intensify its attacks on Kejriwal, setting up a fierce rivalry between AAP and Congress. This could lead to AAP distancing itself from the INDIA Alliance. Similarly, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee, who has always been critical of Rahul Gandhi, may also shift her stance, contributing to the growing fractures within the opposition.

As Congress continues to lose ground, Mamata Banerjee is expected to distance herself from the party. Rahul Gandhi, Congress’s leader, appears to be shifting toward a different kind of politics, which has raised questions. Surprisingly, ahead of the Bihar elections, Rahul has chosen to focus on West Bengal, even though Bihar will go to the polls first. His main challenge should be securing the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in Bihar, as RJD and other allies are gradually sidelining Congress.

Rahul’s decision to rally against Mamata Banerjee’s government in Bengal is unexpected, as it could further strain relations with the TMC, which is already uneasy with Congress. Adding to the complexity, Kerala elections are due early next year, where Congress faces direct competition from the Left parties. A loss in Kerala for the third consecutive time would significantly weaken Congress, especially in the region, similar to the situation in Uttar Pradesh. This could also result in the Left and Mamata Banerjee distancing themselves from Congress, which would jeopardize the INDIA alliance.

The opposition’s unity is also under threat in other key states. In Maharashtra, questions are being raised about the future of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, with Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray facing challenges. Both leaders are concerned about the future of their political families, as their parties struggle to maintain a strong presence. In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party is grappling with setbacks in recent by-elections, especially the crushing defeat in the Milkipur seat. This has led the SP to reconsider its alliance with Congress, leaving the relationship more fragile than ever.

In this uncertain political environment, the path forward for Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi is unclear. Priyanka, who represents Kerala in Parliament, faces her own test after a disappointing performance in Uttar Pradesh. If she cannot secure a win in Kerala, it will label her as a failure in the eyes of the public. Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, is struggling with internal party dynamics, as his refusal to make key decisions regarding the organization has led to a weakening of Congress’s structure.

The growing discontent within Congress, combined with the challenges in Bihar, Kerala, and other states, signals a tough road ahead for both Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. If Congress follows the path of independence or “Ekala Chalo,” it is unlikely to bring about any positive change. The lack of unity and strategic direction in the party could further harm its political prospects.

</excerpt>

On Thursday, Congress introduced an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, urging a discussion on the recent expulsion of more than 100 Indian citizens from the United States.

“The expulsion of over 100 Indian citizens, mostly from Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat, by the US government has occurred under circumstances that are profoundly distressing and degrading. Among those expelled are 25 women, 12 minors, and 79 men. Reports have emerged that these individuals were shackled and subjected to degrading treatment during their deportation, raising significant concerns regarding their human dignity and rights,” stated the motion presented by Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi.

The motion also claimed, “This House must urgently tackle this matter to avert further dehumanisation of our people and to maintain the dignity of every Indian, whether at home or abroad. ”

Deportees Interrogated by Security Agencies on Arrival

On Wednesday, a US Air Force C-17 military plane with 104 Indian immigrants landed in Amritsar, marking the first large-scale deportation under the Trump administration’s heightened enforcement, which was promised after taking office last month. As per sources quoted by PTI, the deported individuals comprised 33 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, 30 from Punjab, three from Maharashtra, three from Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh.

The C-17 Globemaster aircraft arrived at Amritsar airport at 1:55 pm, just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Washington DC for talks with President Trump. Upon their arrival, the deportees were interrogated inside the airport terminal by several agencies, including the Punjab Police and both state and central intelligence units, to check for any criminal history among them.

By 6:45 pm, those from Punjab were taken to their hometowns in police vehicles after completing all required procedures. Likewise, officials from Haryana escorted deportees from their state back to their homes, sources reported.
