Find out when and where to grab this limited-edition festive drink.
</excerpt>

Starbucks is celebrating the Fourth of July with a new festive drink that’s filled with patriotic spirit. Beginning Tuesday, July 1, the coffee chain is rolling out the limited-time Fireworks Frappuccino. It is a red, white, and blue celebratory blended drink based on the US national flag.

What’s Inside the Fireworks Frappuccino?

Starbucks released a new Fireworks Frappuccino to celebrate the Fourth of July. The red, white, and blue Frappuccino is made using the Starbucks Summer-Berry Refresher. This vibrant drink blends coconut milk with raspberry-flavored pearls. The combination creates a fizzy, candy-like flavor. It is then topped with a swirl of strawberry purée. A dollop of creamy vanilla sweet cream cold foam adds a sweet, celebratory finish. This colorful creation, according to USA Today, captures the festive spirit of the holiday.

Inspiration Behind the Drink for Starbucks

In a press release, Starbucks product manager, Amanda Conaway, who helped in the creation of the drink, described the refresher as “a summer vacation in a cup.” She added, “From the popping pearls to the creamy vanilla sweet cream, it’s a vibrant, textured beverage inspired by the sights and sounds of summer.”

Limited-Time Availability and What’s Next

Yet the holiday cocktail is available for just seven days beginning July 1, i.e., Monday, July 7.

The Firework Frappuccino is only the start of Starbucks’ July drink offerings. It’s one of four new frappuccinos the coffee shop has previewed to roll out this summer. While the red, white, and blue-colored Firework Frappuccino debuts just before Independence Day, three others are set to follow later this month.

These include the Salted Caramel Mocha Strato Frappuccino, the Strawberry Matcha Strato Frappuccino, and the Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccino. Each is touted to deliver bold, stacked flavors to keep customers caffeinated and cool during the summer season. Sweet surprises are in store for fans as July progresses.

Exclusions apply. Customers must stay in the café and can’t order refills via the drive-thru.
</excerpt>

Starbucks drinkers are now entitled to enjoy free refills for their beverages across select stores in the U.S. and Canada, adding a higher value for money to the café experience. Here’s a rundown of details you should know about the deal:

Reintroduced in January of 2025, Starbucks free refill policy adds new elements such as a condiment bar. The company explains that the offer entitles customers to free refills of hot or iced brewed coffee or tea within the same visit. It does not cover beverages such as Cold Brew, Nitro Cold Brew, Iced Tea Lemonade, flavored iced teas, and Starbucks Refreshers.

How to Get Your Free Refill

To receive a refill, your first drink will be served in a ceramic cup or glass. You may also use your own clear, reusable container. When you finish your drink, you can request a refill. Note that the refill will only be hot or iced brewed coffee or tea, not the drink that you ordered originally. If you wish to add any modifiers on your refill, you will pay extra, though your original drink may have contained modifiers.

Essential Facts to Keep in Mind:

Here are some important points to keep in mind when you go tot he store before asking for a refill.

The offer is only during the same trip to the store, so you need to remain in the café after your initial purchase to have a refill.

Customers who order through Mobile Order & Pay (MOP) or drive-thru but consume their drink in the café are entitled to the free refill.

There is no limit on the number of refills you can ask for.

No time gap is needed between the original drink and when you ask for the refill, but the original drink has to be consumed before you order a refill.

Refills can’t be requested at the drive-thru.

Refills can be carried away in disposable cups.

Starbucks India introduced a similar offer in 2023 of a free refill on certain core drinks, including Cold Brew Black, Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, Iced Latte, and Iced Americano. For this offer, customers need to remain in the café for a minimum of one hour, and the offer is only valid until 2:00 pm.

</excerpt>

Coffee Consumption and Gut Health: The Surprising Link to Specific Bacteria

Coffee, one of the most popular beverages worldwide, is often celebrated for its rich aroma, energizing effects, and health benefits. From improving mental alertness to reducing the risk of certain chronic diseases, coffee has become an integral part of daily routines for millions. However, recent research has uncovered an intriguing connection between coffee consumption and gut health, specifically its role in influencing the growth of certain gut bacteria. This discovery sheds new light on how coffee might impact overall health through the gut microbiome.

The Gut Microbiome and Its Importance

The gut microbiome refers to the diverse community of microorganisms residing in the human digestive tract. These bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes play a crucial role in maintaining health by aiding digestion, supporting the immune system, and producing essential nutrients. An imbalance in the gut microbiome, known as dysbiosis, has been linked to various health conditions, including obesity, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, and even mental health disorders.

Understanding how dietary habits influence the gut microbiome is a growing area of research. Among the many foods and beverages consumed regularly, coffee has emerged as a significant player in modulating gut bacteria composition.

Coffee’s Impact on Gut Microbiota

Recent studies suggest that coffee consumption can alter the gut microbiome in unique ways. Specifically, researchers have identified a link between coffee and the promotion of beneficial bacteria. A study published in Nature found that regular coffee drinkers had higher levels of a particular gut bacterium called Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its role in gut health.

Increase in Beneficial Bacteria:
Coffee contains various bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, chlorogenic acid, and dietary fiber, which act as prebiotics. These compounds serve as food for beneficial gut bacteria, promoting their growth and activity.

Reduction in Harmful Bacteria:
Coffee’s antimicrobial properties can help reduce harmful bacteria in the gut, potentially preventing infections and maintaining a balanced microbiome.

Enhanced Diversity:
Studies indicate that regular coffee consumption is associated with greater microbial diversity, a hallmark of a healthy gut. Higher diversity in the gut microbiome has been linked to better resilience against diseases and improved overall health.

The Role of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii

The bacterium Faecalibacterium prausnitzii has garnered significant attention in gut health research due to its numerous health-promoting properties. This bacterium is one of the most abundant species in the gut and is known for producing butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) essential for maintaining gut barrier integrity and reducing inflammation.

Butyrate has been linked to:

Improved intestinal health by nourishing colon cells.

Reduced risk of inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Enhanced metabolic health by regulating blood sugar levels and reducing fat accumulation.

The link between coffee and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii suggests that coffee might play a role in improving gut health by fostering the growth of this beneficial bacterium.

Key Components in Coffee Supporting Gut Health

Several compounds in coffee contribute to its positive effects on gut microbiota:

Polyphenols:
Coffee is rich in polyphenols, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These compounds are metabolized by gut bacteria, leading to the production of SCFAs and other beneficial metabolites.

Dietary Fiber:
Coffee contains a small amount of dietary fiber, which acts as a prebiotic, providing nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria.

Chlorogenic Acid:
This bioactive compound has been shown to influence gut bacteria composition and promote the growth of beneficial microbes.

Antioxidants:
The antioxidants in coffee help reduce oxidative stress, creating a more favorable environment for gut bacteria to thrive.

Health Benefits Linked to Coffee-Induced Changes in Gut Microbiota

The modulation of gut microbiota by coffee consumption has several potential health benefits:

Improved Digestion:
Coffee stimulates the production of gastric acid and bile, aiding digestion. By promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria, it also helps maintain a healthy gut lining.

Reduced Inflammation:
The increase in anti-inflammatory bacteria, such as Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, helps lower systemic inflammation, reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Enhanced Metabolic Health:
Coffee’s impact on gut microbiota may contribute to better regulation of blood sugar levels, reduced insulin resistance, and lower risk of type 2 diabetes.

Boosted Immune Function:
A balanced gut microbiome supports the immune system, enhancing the body’s ability to fight infections and reduce autoimmune responses.

Potential Role in Mental Health:
The gut-brain axis links gut health to mental well-being. By promoting a healthy gut microbiome, coffee may have indirect benefits for mental health, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Considerations and Moderation

While coffee offers numerous benefits for gut health, moderation is key. Excessive coffee consumption can lead to adverse effects, such as increased acidity, digestive discomfort, or disrupted sleep patterns.

Experts recommend limiting coffee intake to 2–4 cups per day to maximize its benefits while minimizing potential side effects. It’s also important to consider how coffee is prepared; black coffee is often the healthiest choice, as excessive sugar, cream, or artificial additives can negate its positive effects on gut health.

Future Research Directions

The relationship between coffee and gut microbiota is a burgeoning field of study. Future research aims to:

Investigate the long-term effects of coffee consumption on gut health.

Explore the impact of different coffee types and brewing methods on the microbiome.

Identify specific populations that may benefit most from coffee’s gut health benefits.

Additionally, researchers are examining how coffee interacts with other dietary components to influence gut microbiota. Personalized nutrition strategies based on gut microbiome composition could one day incorporate coffee as a tailored intervention for specific health conditions.

The link between coffee consumption and specific gut bacteria, particularly Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, highlights the profound impact of dietary habits on gut health. Coffee’s ability to promote beneficial bacteria, enhance microbial diversity, and reduce inflammation underscores its potential as a functional food for improving overall health.

As research continues to unravel the intricate relationship between coffee and the gut microbiome, this beloved beverage may gain even more recognition for its health-promoting properties. For coffee enthusiasts, this is another reason to savor their daily cup, knowing it might be doing much more than just providing a caffeine boost—it could be fostering a healthier gut and a healthier you.

Critics have questioned the safety aspect, with one saying, “It’s beautiful, but is it worth the risk? Safety should come first.” Meanwhile, a coffee enthusiast enthusiastically replied, “I’d do it in a heartbeat—coffee and a view like that?
Coffee, the beloved beverage that kick-starts the day for millions of people around the world, is often associated with energy boosts, productivity, and social gatherings. However, emerging research suggests that coffee could offer more than just a caffeine fix — it may actually help extend your lifespan. According to studies, drinking coffee regularly could add nearly two years to your life on average, offering a surprising yet welcome benefit to coffee lovers everywhere.

While it’s no secret that coffee is packed with caffeine, which is widely consumed to stay alert and awake, the broader health benefits of coffee have been explored in recent years. From its potential to boost brain function to its protective effects on the liver and heart, coffee’s reputation as a health-promoting beverage is gaining more traction. But how does it work, and what is the science behind its ability to extend life?

In this article, we will delve into the research findings that suggest coffee may contribute to a longer lifespan, examining the specific mechanisms behind its health benefits and why it’s becoming increasingly recognized as more than just a morning pick-me-up.

The Science Behind Coffee’s Lifespan Benefits

Recent studies have examined the long-term effects of coffee consumption on health, and the results have been promising. The primary factors that contribute to coffee’s potential to prolong life are its antioxidant properties, its role in reducing inflammation, and its ability to protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

1. Rich in Antioxidants

One of the most compelling reasons coffee may promote longevity is its high antioxidant content. Antioxidants are compounds that help neutralize free radicals — unstable molecules that can damage cells and tissues, leading to aging and various diseases, including cancer and heart disease. Coffee is loaded with antioxidants, particularly polyphenols, which are found in the coffee beans themselves. These polyphenols have been shown to help reduce oxidative stress, thereby protecting cells from the damage caused by free radicals.

In fact, for many people, coffee is one of the largest sources of antioxidants in their diet, especially in countries where fruit and vegetable consumption may be lower. By regularly consuming coffee, individuals may be receiving a substantial amount of antioxidants that contribute to reducing the overall aging process and lowering the risk of chronic conditions.

2. Anti-inflammatory Properties

Chronic inflammation has been linked to a wide range of health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury or infection, but when it becomes chronic, it can lead to serious health complications. Coffee has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, helping to combat this silent threat.

Several studies have found that regular coffee consumption may reduce markers of inflammation in the body. This is believed to be due to the polyphenols and other bioactive compounds found in coffee, which help modulate the immune system and reduce inflammation over time. By mitigating chronic inflammation, coffee may help lower the risk of developing conditions that could otherwise shorten one’s lifespan.

3. Heart Health and Coffee

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Research has demonstrated that coffee consumption is linked to a lower risk of heart disease, particularly in those who consume it regularly in moderate amounts. Coffee has been shown to help improve cardiovascular health by improving blood circulation, lowering blood pressure, and reducing the risk of arterial damage.

Some studies suggest that moderate coffee consumption — typically defined as three to five cups per day — may even reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 20%. This reduction in risk is likely due to the antioxidants in coffee, which protect against oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which contribute to heart disease. By improving heart health, coffee may help individuals live longer, healthier lives.

4. Cancer Protection

Cancer is another leading cause of death globally, and prevention is key to reducing its impact. While no single food or beverage can guarantee cancer prevention, coffee has been shown to have protective effects against certain types of cancer, particularly liver and colorectal cancer.

The compounds in coffee, including polyphenols and chlorogenic acid, have demonstrated anti-cancer properties in laboratory studies. These compounds help prevent the growth of cancer cells, inhibit the spread of tumors, and reduce oxidative damage to DNA. Regular coffee consumption has been associated with a lower risk of liver cancer, one of the most aggressive types of cancer, and coffee drinkers have also shown a decreased risk of colorectal cancer.

5. Protection Against Neurodegenerative Diseases

Another area where coffee has demonstrated significant health benefits is in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. These conditions, which are associated with aging, result in the progressive degeneration of brain cells and loss of cognitive function.

Several studies have shown that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. The caffeine and other compounds in coffee have been shown to have neuroprotective effects, which may help protect the brain from the cellular damage that leads to these diseases. Coffee’s ability to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress also plays a role in protecting the brain, and some studies suggest that moderate coffee consumption may help preserve cognitive function as people age.

6. Diabetes and Coffee Consumption

Type 2 diabetes is another chronic condition that affects millions of people worldwide, and it is known to shorten lifespan due to its association with heart disease, kidney failure, and other complications. Interestingly, research has shown that regular coffee consumption may reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Studies suggest that coffee drinkers have a 25-30% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to non-coffee drinkers. This effect is thought to be due to the presence of bioactive compounds in coffee, such as chlorogenic acid, which help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. By reducing the risk of diabetes, coffee may help extend life and improve overall health.

How Much Coffee Should You Drink for Health Benefits?

While coffee has been shown to offer numerous health benefits, it’s important to remember that moderation is key. Excessive coffee consumption can lead to negative side effects, including insomnia, jitteriness, and digestive issues. Most studies suggest that moderate coffee consumption — around three to five cups per day — is optimal for reaping the health benefits without experiencing adverse effects.

It’s also important to consider how you drink your coffee. Adding excessive sugar, cream, or syrups can negate some of the health benefits of coffee, turning it into a high-calorie, sugary beverage. For the best health outcomes, it’s recommended to drink coffee black or with minimal additives.

Coffee and Longevity: A Complex Relationship

While the evidence supporting coffee’s potential to prolong life is promising, it’s important to note that no single food or beverage can guarantee a longer lifespan. The relationship between coffee consumption and longevity is likely multifaceted, influenced by factors such as genetics, lifestyle, diet, and overall health.

For instance, coffee drinkers tend to have other healthy habits, such as regular physical activity and a balanced diet, which may contribute to their increased lifespan. Additionally, some of the health benefits associated with coffee — such as improved heart health, brain function, and reduced inflammation — are also linked to other lifestyle factors that promote longevity.

Moreover, not everyone may experience the same benefits from coffee consumption. While moderate coffee intake may extend lifespan for many individuals, it’s important to recognize that coffee is not for everyone. Some people may be more sensitive to caffeine, while others may have underlying health conditions that make coffee consumption less suitable for their needs.

Coffee is much more than just a morning pick-me-up; it is a complex, nutrient-rich beverage that can have a profound impact on health and longevity. With its antioxidant properties, ability to reduce inflammation, and potential to protect against chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, coffee could indeed help add years to your life. Studies suggest that regular coffee consumption could prolong lifespan by almost two years on average, offering a surprising and enjoyable way to improve health and longevity.

So, the next time you pour yourself a cup of coffee, remember that it’s not just for boosting your energy — it could also be helping you live a longer, healthier life. Just be sure to enjoy it in moderation and without excess sugar or cream to maximize its health benefits.

History of Egg Coffee

While Sweden is renowned for its beautiful fjords, fresh salmon, and ABBA anthems, it is also known for a unique coffee tradition: Swedish Egg Coffee. This beverage, also referred to as Scandinavian Coffee or Hungarian Coffee, offers a distinct experience. Contrary to what its name suggests, this method of brewing coffee did not originate in Sweden or Scandinavia, but rather in the American Midwest during the 19th century. It was brought over by Scandinavian immigrants who settled in the Midwest, bringing with them this unique coffee preparation technique.

In Vietnam, a similar concoction known as “Cà Phê Trứng” emerged in Hanoi during the 1940s as a creative response to milk shortages. This rich and creamy coffee delicacy is made by whipping egg yolks with sugar and condensed milk to create a frothy, custard-like topping over strong Vietnamese coffee. The result is a delightful blend of flavors and textures, with the bold bitterness of the coffee perfectly complementing the sweet, velvety egg cream.

The Science Behind the Egg

In Swedish Egg Coffee, the addition of eggs adds richness and creaminess to the brew, much like their use in desserts. Specifically, the egg whites help clarify the coffee, removing impurities that can contribute to a bitter taste. However, there are some food safety concerns to keep in mind. Raw eggs carry the risk of salmonella, and while the hot water used in brewing Swedish Egg Coffee does cook the egg, it may not always reach a temperature high enough to fully eliminate this risk. Therefore, it’s recommended to use the freshest pasteurized eggs available to minimize any potential health risks.

Swedish Egg Coffee Recipe

Ingredients:

– 1 fresh egg
– 1 to 1 ½ tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee
– 1 cup of water
– 1 cup of ice-cold water
– Sugar and milk to taste

Method:

1. Start by boiling the first cup of water in a small saucepan.
2. Crack the egg, including the shell, into a cup and stir it thoroughly.
3. Mix the ground coffee into the egg, ensuring it is well combined.
4. Add the egg-coffee mixture to the boiling water and let it boil for 5 minutes, being careful not to let it overflow.
5. After boiling, remove the mixture from heat and add the ice-cold water. This will cause the egg and coffee clumps to sink to the bottom, making it easier to pour the coffee while leaving behind the solid bits.
6. Pour the coffee through a fine-mesh strainer or use a French press to filter out the remaining solids.
7. Enjoy your Swedish Egg Coffee with sugar and milk to taste.

This unusual yet fascinating coffee tradition highlights how different cultures adapt and innovate with everyday ingredients, resulting in unique flavors and experiences that continue to intrigue and delight coffee lovers worldwide.

</excerpt>

Despite the health benefits, drinking too much coffee can leave a mark on your smile. In fact, it can even increase your risk of cavities because it’s acidic, which can erode your enamel. As your enamel becomes thinner, it can also lead to tooth sensitivity. If you add sugar or creamers to sweeten it, your risk of tooth decay also increases. When sugar combines with your saliva, it creates an acidic plaque that can breakdown your enamel. Coffee is also linked to halitosis.

Why Timing Matters After Drinking Coffee

Coffee is a popular drink, but it can affect your teeth in ways you might not expect. According to Dr. Sara Alhammadi, a dentist and content creator, you should wait about 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after having coffee. She advises, “Think twice before brushing right after coffee!”

Effects of Coffee on Your Teeth

Many doctor’s agrees with Dr. Alhammadi. She explains that coffee isn’t just a source of visible stains; it can also harm your tooth enamel and lead to decay, especially when sugar is added. Here’s why:

– Acidity: Coffee is acidic, which temporarily weakens your tooth enamel. If you brush right away, you can cause more damage to the soft enamel.
– Enamel Erosion:Brushing immediately after drinking coffee can wear down your enamel, leading to sensitivity, cavities, and even more stains.
– Gum Health: High sugar content in coffee can also cause gum problems, such as soreness or bleeding.

The Best Time to Wait Before Brushing

To protect your enamel, it’s best to wait at least 30 minutes after drinking coffee before brushing your teeth. This waiting period allows your saliva to neutralize the acid and start repairing your enamel. In the meantime, you can:

– Rinse Your Mouth:Swish water around to remove coffee residues and reduce acidity.
– Drink Water: Helps keep you hydrated and flushes away food particles and bacteria.
– Chew Sugar-Free Gum:Stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize acids and clean your mouth.

Choosing the Right Toothpaste

When dealing with coffee stains, the toothpaste you use matters. Dr. Pahuja recommends a toothpaste with low abrasiveness (RDA value between 30-80) to clean your teeth without damaging your enamel. Look for toothpaste with:

– Baking Soda: Gently removes surface stains.
– Fluoride: Strengthens enamel and prevents decay.
– Whitening Agents:Use sparingly to avoid excessive abrasion.

Alternative Oral Hygiene Practices

Here are some other tips for maintaining healthy teeth, even if you love coffee:

– Use a Straw: Drinking coffee through a straw minimizes contact with your teeth and reduces staining and acid damage.
– Eat High-Fiber Foods:Foods like apples, carrots, and celery increase saliva flow, which helps clean your teeth naturally.
– Use an Antiseptic or Fluoride Mouthwash: These can reduce bacteria and strengthen enamel without the abrasiveness of brushing.

To keep your teeth healthy while enjoying your coffee, remember to:

– Wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.
– Rinse your mouth with water right after drinking coffee.
– Choose a toothpaste with low abrasiveness and fluoride.
– Consider using a straw and eating high-fiber foods.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your coffee while keeping your teeth in great shape!

Do you wait to brush your teeth after drinking coffee?

</excerpt>

Is 7- second coffee for weight loss a myth? Or does it really help? Experts explain.

Every day, each person is grinding themselves with a will to reach their desired goals. For bodily goals like weight loss, people tend to put their faith on social media, which isn’t completely wrong but since our bodies are built different we need to resolve it in a way that suits our body the best. This more likely gives better and healthier results.

Weight loss trends on social media were always at peak. From 2-2-2- technique to diabetic drug, each one might look promising but switching to these might led to the downfall of your health. With a new trend being introduced, people are questioning if it is safe to opt for.

What is ‘7-second loophole for weight loss’?

According to the trends, the idea is to consume black coffee with cinnamon or lemon within seven seconds of feeling hungry. This results in reducing appetite. This looks promising but is it really helpful?

Dietician Veena V from Aster Whitefield Hospital in Bangalore explained the principle behind the 7-second loophole. According to Veena, this concept is about physiological effects of caffeine, particularly how it affects the release of certain hunger-related hormones like adrenaline and dopamine.

When a person consumes black coffee, the caffeine content stimulates the secretion of these hormones. Adrenaline, often referred to as the “fight or flight” hormone, and dopamine, known as the “feel-good” hormone, play significant roles in the body’s response to various stimuli. The release of these hormones has a twofold effect: it suppresses appetite and enhances metabolic rate. By curbing hunger, individuals may experience reduced calorie intake, while the boosted metabolism helps in more efficient fat burning. This combination of appetite suppression and increased metabolic activity ultimately supports weight loss efforts, reported Veena V explains.

This can lead to an imbalanced diet, distracting people from switching to healthy options. This definitely helps in weight loss but it is unhealthy to solely depend on this technique.

</excerpt>

Instant coffee consumption in the United States has dwindled, with only 4% of Americans opting for the quick-and-easy offering, according to the National Coffee Association. However, overseas, the trend tells a different story, as soluble coffee accounts for about a quarter of global beverage consumption and continues to rise, according to the Brazilian Instant Coffee Industry Association.

“While American coffee drinkers are increasingly favoring specialty items like espresso-based beverages and cold brews, the popularity of instant coffee remains strong globally,” says coffee expert Jake Leonti of food and beverage consulting firm F+B Therapy. “Contrary to popular belief, instant coffee consumption has been steadily growing for the last 20 years.”

Nescafé, the largest coffee brand under Swiss-based food giant Nestlé, stands as a testament to this trend. Despite its reputation as the “black sheep” of the coffee world, Nescafé remains immensely popular, with 6,100 cups consumed every second globally. The brand is sold in 180 countries, with one in seven cups of coffee consumed worldwide being Nescafé.

To understand the success of the Nescafé brand and the future of soluble coffee, CNBC journeyed to Vietnam, the world’s second-largest exporter of coffee after Brazil, to explore Nescafé’s operations there.

With 25 factories worldwide, Nescafé’s global presence and production capacity are impressive. Despite changing consumer preferences and the rise of specialty coffee, Nescafé’s enduring popularity underscores the enduring appeal of instant coffee for millions worldwide.

As the global coffee landscape continues to evolve, the success of Nescafé offers insights into the enduring appeal of instant coffee and its role in shaping global coffee consumption patterns.

</excerpt>

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recently issued 17 dietary guidelines aimed at promoting a balanced and diverse diet, along with a healthy lifestyle.

One guideline, developed by the ICMR in collaboration with the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), recommends moderate consumption of tea and coffee. Given the popularity of these beverages in India, the ICMR cautions against drinking them immediately before or after meals.

“Tea and coffee contain caffeine, which stimulates the central nervous system and induces physiological dependence,” the ICMR researchers wrote.

ICMR Warns About The Caffeine Content

The guidelines do not advise completely avoiding tea or coffee but warn about the caffeine content in these drinks. A 150ml cup of brewed coffee contains 80–120mg of caffeine, instant coffee has 50–65mg, and tea contains 30–65mg of caffeine.

“Moderation in tea and coffee consumption is advised so that caffeine intake does not exceed the tolerable limits (300mg/day),” they wrote, specifying the recommended daily caffeine limit.

Additionally, they recommend avoiding tea and coffee at least one hour before and after meals. This is due to the presence of tannins in these beverages, which can interfere with iron absorption in the body.

Tannins can bind with iron in the digestive tract, forming a complex that is harder for the body to absorb, reducing the amount of iron entering the bloodstream from food. This can decrease iron availability in the body, which is essential for producing hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that transports oxygen. Iron is also crucial for energy production and overall cell function. Reduced iron levels can lead to iron deficiency and conditions such as anemia.

Symptoms of iron deficiency include frequent fatigue, lack of energy, breathlessness, frequent headaches, unexplained weakness, rapid heartbeat, pale skin, craving for ice, brittle nails, and hair loss.

The ICMR researchers also highlighted that drinking tea without milk offers additional health benefits, such as improved blood circulation and reduced risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) and stomach cancer. However, high coffee consumption is associated with high blood pressure and heart rhythm abnormalities.

Other dietary guidelines from the panel include consuming less oil, eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and seafood. They also advise against using protein supplements and recommend limiting sugar and salt intake.

</excerpt>

Coffee beans have been around since the times immemorial and have been preferred for their palate of richness. It is only recently that coffee beans have expanded their appeal amongst the masses who now deeply enjoy the experience of coffee and its cross-infusions giving rise to special blends and mixes. The question that many wonder is: “Is coffee all and only about caffeine, to help keep me up?”

In addition to its rich aroma and invigorating taste, coffee contains several bioactive compounds that contribute to its positive effects on health. Cognitive Properties One of the most wellknown benefits of coffee is its ability to enhance cognitive function. The caffeine in coffee acts as a stimulant, increasing alertness, concentration, and cognitive performance.

Antioxidant Powerhouse Coffee is also a potent source of antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. Antioxidants such as chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid found in coffee beans have been associated with a lower risk of chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer.

Regular consumption of coffee has been linked to improved cardiovascular health, including a reduced risk of heart failure and a lower incidence of stroke. Metabolism Kickstart Caffeine stimulates the nervous system, increasing metabolism and promoting the breakdown of fat cells for energy.

Elevating your Mood

In congruence to its physical health benefits and its ability to increase alertness, coffee has also been associated with improved mood and mental well-being. The caffeine in coffee acts as a mild antidepressant, boosting the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which regulate mood and happiness. As research delves deeper into the intricacies of coffee compounds, new avenues for therapeutic intervention continue to emerge.

From exploring the anti-cancer potential of cafestol and kahweol to unravelling the mechanisms behind coffee’s anti-inflammatory effects, the possibilities are vast. Additionally, advancements in extraction techniques and formulation strategies hold promise for harnessing coffee’s benefits in targeted therapies and functional foods.

Conclusively, the health and wellness benefits offered by coffee justify its position and capabilities to be more than just a beverage— It’s perhaps another beverage, harnessing active elements that may be beneficial for people seeking vitality and longevity. From sharpening mental acuity to safeguarding against oxidative stress, the benefits of coffee extend far beyond the morning ritual of preparing you for the day
