US President Donald Trump on Wednesday attacked CNN reporter Natasha Bertrand, demanding that she be fired and tossed ‘like a dog.’ The 78-year-old’s tweet came after Bertrand’s coverage of US military airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites.

Trump Accuses Bertrand of Lying and Defaming Military

“Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing Fake News. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded, and then thrown out “like a dog.” She lied on the Laptop from Hell Story, and now she lied on the Nuclear Sites Story, attempting to destroy our Patriot Pilots by making them look bad when, in fact, they did a GREAT job and hit “pay dirt” — TOTAL OBLITERATION!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He further added that the CNN correspondent shouldn’t be allowed to work. “It’s people like her who destroyed the reputation of a once great Network. Her slant was so obviously negative, besides, she doesn’t have what it takes to be an on camera correspondent, not even close. FIRE NATASHA!”

CNN and Bertrand Yet to Respond to Trump

Bertrand and CNN have not yet reacted to President Trump’s tweet.

The controversy centers around Bertrand’s report, filed earlier in the day. It cited an early U.S. intelligence assessment claiming that the strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan did not completely destroy Iran’s nuclear program. This directly contradicted Trump’s claims of “total obliteration.”

President Donald Trump reacted to the news on Truth Social, calling Acosta “one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history” and expressing satisfaction over his exit.

Jim Acosta, one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history, a major sleazebag, has been relegated by CNN Fake News to the Midnight hour, ‘Death Valley,’ because of extraordinarily bad ratings (and no talent!). Word is that he wants to quit, and that would be even better. Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim,” Trump wrote.

Acosta revealed his decision at the conclusion of his 10 a.m. program, which marked his final appearance on CNN. MEA Criticizes CNN Report for Misrepresenting India’s Role in Bangladesh Floods

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has dismissed a CNN report suggesting that India is responsible for the recent flooding in Bangladesh, labeling the report as “misleading” and “factually incorrect.”

In a statement issued during the weekly media briefing on Friday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized the CNN report for its portrayal of India’s involvement. He stated, “The CNN report on the flood situation in Bangladesh misrepresents the facts and implies that India is responsible for the floods. This narrative is factually incorrect and overlooks the clarifications provided by the Government of India.”

Jaiswal further explained that the report failed to acknowledge the ongoing exchange of data and critical information between India and Bangladesh through established joint mechanisms for water resource management. The MEA stressed that this cooperation is vital for managing and mitigating flood risks in the region.

The CNN report had cited claims from residents in Feni, a Bangladeshi town near the Indian border, who accused India of releasing water from the Dumbur Dam in Tripura without prior warning. The report included statements from locals like Shoriful Islam, who alleged that the dam gates were opened without notice, exacerbating the flooding.

In response, India has denied that the dam release was intentional. The Government explained that excessive rainfall and a power outage, coupled with a communications breakdown, prevented the usual advance warning to downstream communities.

Earlier in the day, UN News Service reported on social media that severe monsoon conditions have affected over 18 million people in Bangladesh. The floods have trapped more than 1.2 million families, with major rivers in Chattogram and Sylhet regions flowing above dangerous levels, worsening the situation.

According to UNICEF, the floods have resulted in at least 20 deaths and forced around 285,000 people into more than 3,500 shelters. The severe weather has also caused extensive damage to roads, croplands, and fisheries, severely impacting local livelihoods.

US: Maine’s top election official disqualifies Trump from the state’s 2024 Ballot

Due to the “insurrectionist ban” outlined in the 14th Amendment, former President Donald Trump was removed from the Maine ballot for 2024, according to CNN’s report. This ruling makes Maine the second state to bar Trump from seeking public office, following a similar ruling made earlier this month by the Colorado Supreme Court. An administrative hearing regarding Trump’s eligibility for office was held earlier this month after a group of former state lawmakers, representing both parties, launched the challenge against him.

Maine Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, issued the decision on Thursday, acknowledging the unprecedented nature of such an action against a presidential candidate.
“I do not reach this conclusion lightly,” Bellows wrote. “Democracy is sacred … I am mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection.”

EAM S Jaishankar expresses condolences as Prague University shooting leaves 14 killed

He sent his sincere condolences to the victims’ families in a heartfelt post on X. “Saddened to learn of the shooting at Charles University in Prague. “My sincere sympathies go out to the victims’ families,” wrote EAM Jaishankar. According to CNN, a shooting at a university in Prague on Thursday resulted in up to 14 fatalities and 25 injuries.

In a press conference on Thursday, Czech Police Chief Martin Vondrasek said the information he had received so far indicated the shooter took his own life, but added it was not yet confirmed. He also said the suspect had not been formally identified because of the severity of his injuries.
In a later news conference on Thursday night, Vondrasek revised the number of people killed to 14, after previously saying 15 people had died. Of the 25 people injured, ten were in serious condition, the police chief said, as per CNN.
Emergency services earlier said that nine people had been severely injured, five or six received medium-severe injuries and ten were lightly injured. The authorities have also revised down an earlier number of people injured, but said those could still change given the developing situation.

Top US, Chinese military officials hold first high-level discussions in over a year

The Pentagon expressed concerns about the year-long silence that had been broken by the highest-ranking US and Chinese military officials speaking on Thursday, CNN reported. This was a significant development. A video conference call was started by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General CQ Brown, Jr. and Chinese counterpart General Liu Zhenli of the People’s Liberation Army of China. According to CNN, this was the first time the two leaders had spoken since Gen. Brown took on the chairmanship.

During the video conference, Gen Brown emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to responsibly manage competition, prevent miscalculations, and maintain open lines of communication, Joint Staff spokesperson Captain Jereal Dorsey said.
“Gen Brown discussed the importance of working together to responsibly manage competition, avoid miscalculations, and maintain open and direct lines of communication,” Dorsey said, adding, “Gen Brown reiterated the importance of the People’s Liberation Army engaging in substantive dialogue to reduce the likelihood of misunderstandings.”
The hiatus in communication between the US and Chinese military leadership had persisted for over a year, triggered by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan in August 2022. China responded with military drills around the island, leading to heightened tensions.

US: Following tornadoes in Tennessee, six people have died

CNN reports that tornadoes and powerful thunderstorms struck Tennessee, US, resulting in the deaths of six people. Additionally, according to emergency management officials, three confirmed deaths have occurred in Madison, a northeast Nashville suburban neighborhood. The Nashville Office of Emergency Management posted on X, saying, “We have teams searching for patients and assessing damage. Regretfully, we can confirm that the severe weather on Nesbitt Lane has resulted in three fatalities.” CNN reported that three deaths, including a child, were confirmed by Montgomery County officials following a tornado that struck the Clarksville area.

The Montgomery County government issued a statement, saying, “At this time, we can confirm that three people are deceased–two adults and one child–as a result of the tornado that touched down this afternoon. Additionally, 23 people have been treated at the hospital.”
Officials said they are still in a “search and rescue phase” to see if there are more dead or injured.

“This is a sad day for our community. We are praying for those who are injured, lost loved ones, and lost their homes,” Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden said in a statement.
Following the tornadoes, the city of Clarksville declared a state of emergency on Saturday night.

US: One injured, three killed after shooting on University of Nevada campus in Las Vegas

According to CNN, a shooting occurred on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus in the US on Wednesday, leaving at least three people dead and one critically injured.

“According to our investigators at the scene, we have three deceased victims and one additional victim in critical condition at a local hospital. The suspect in this #activeshooter incident is also deceased,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department posted on X.
The victims were taken to hospitals and the suspected shooter on the campus “has been located and deceased”, CNN reported quoting the LAPD.

Following a shooting, University Police Services on X stated that authorities in Las Vegas were still clearing buildings on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus. Authorities declared the incident to be an “active investigation” and asked everyone on campus to remain indoors until the area has been cleared. According to a social media post, earlier on Wednesday, police were called to the scene of a shooting on campus near Beam Hall, which houses the university’s Lee Business School, that left multiple victims injured.

At 11.54 am (local time), the university posted an emergency notice online, saying, “University Police responding to report of shots fire in BEH evacuate to a safe area, RUN-HIDE-FIGHT.”
Shortly after, the university informred that police were responding to “additional report of shots fired in the Student Union”, and advised people to evacuate the area.
“I was sitting outside, I was just having breakfast. I heard three loud booms and I was like, oh, what was that?” a student told CNN affiliate KVVU, adding, “Police showed up, then I ran inside.

Three Palestinian college students shot in the US

CNN reported that three Palestinian college students were shot on Saturday night in Burlington City, Vermont, in the United States. After spending Thanksgiving with a relative in Burlington, the students were reportedly walking down Prospect Street when “they were confronted by a white man with a handgun.” According to a police statement released on Sunday and cited by CNN, the victims—two of whom are US citizens and one a lawful resident—were taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center for medical attention.

“Two are stable, while one has sustained much more serious injuries,” the police said in its release.
“Without speaking, he discharged at least four rounds from the pistol and is believed to have fled on foot,” police said.
Notably, two of the students were wearing keffiyehs, traditional Palestinian scarves, they added.
According to CNN, two students sustained injuries to the torso, while the third suffered injuries to the “lower extremities.”

“There is no additional information to suggest the suspect’s motive,” according to the authorities. Additionally, according to Burlington police, ballistic evidence was found by detectives from the shooting and will be added to a federal database. According to reports, the FBI declared on Sunday that it was “ready to look into” the incident. The gunman or gunmen have not yet been located or identified, according to CNN, and the police are “in the earliest stages of investigating this crime.” The families of the victims asked law enforcement to look into the attack as a possible hate crime in a joint statement.

Israel-Gaza conflict: According to IDF spokesperson forces continue to operate against Hamas

The ground offensive by Israel is still ongoing in northern Gaza as the Israel-Hamas war completes almost a month, according to Israel Defence Forces spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, who also stated that the forces are committed to continuing their operations against Hamas terrorists.

“Our forces continue to operate against Hamas’ leadership and infrastructure in northern Gaza,” he added.
The IDF also claimed that Hamas hides within the intricate network of “terror tunnels.”
“While Hamas obstructs their civilians from getting to safety in southern Gaza, Hamas hides within their intricate network of terror tunnels,” the IDF posted on X.
“IDF troops uncovered multiple access points during operational activity in Northern Gaza,” it added.

According to CNN on Friday, Israel took credit for the attack on an ambulance outside of Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital, which resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) statement claimed that Israel had targeted the ambulance because it was being used by Hamas. Notably, CNN reported, citing the Hamas-run health authorities, that the attack on the largest medical facility in the enclave resulted in at least 15 fatalities and 50 injuries.

According to the footage from the scene, at least a dozen bloodied casualties can be seen strewn across the ground near an ambulance.

106 injured & 27 killed following clashes in Libya

A clash between two armed factions in Tripoli, Libya, resulted in at least 27 deaths and more than 100 injuries, according to a statement from the nation’s emergency services, which CNN cited. The emergency services stated in a statement that a total of 106 people had been hurt.

According to CNN, the clash began on Monday after the commander of the 444 Brigade, Mahmoud Hamza, was detained as he attempted to travel through Tripoli’s main Mitiga airport.
The Special Deterrence Force, the main rival of the 444 Brigade, which also controls the airport apprehended Hamza, CNN reported.
The reason for his detention remains unknown.
The clashes ceased late on Tuesday following an agreement reached with the UN-recognized Government of National Unity to transfer Hamza to a neutral party, as reported by state news agency LANA.

According to LANA, there were civilians among the dead. Images from the overnight battles showed smoke rising above the capital, making the fighting the worst of this year. According to LANA, the agreement calls for the end of all military operations in Tripoli, the relocation of military units to their barracks, an evaluation of property damage to both public and private property, and the issuance of compensations by the Government of National Unity.

Twitter suspends Koo Twitter handle

Twitter Inc. has suspended the accounts of the account of Indian micro-blogging platform Koo.

Earlier on Friday @kooeminence’s Twitter handle was suspended. Billionaire Elon Musk-owned Twitter on Friday suspended several prominent global journalists, including those from the New York Times, CNN, and Washington Post.

“I forgot. There’s more! – Banning Mastodon account. – Not allowing mastodon links saying it’s unsafe. – Banning Koo’s eminence handle. I mean seriously. How much more control does the guy need?” Mayank Bidawatka, co-founder of the homegrown microblogging platform said.

Taking to Twitter in a series Bidawatka questioned the reason and said, “1. Posting publicly available info isn’t doxxing. Why shoot the messenger? 2. Journalists that posted links did nothing wrong. Posting a link to publicly available info isn’t doxxing the way posting a link to an online article isn’t plagiarism. 3. Leaving spaces without answering journalists is bad. 4. Creating policies out of thin air to suit yourself is worse. 5. Changing your stance every other day is inconsistent. 6. Posting a video of an unknown car on Twitter with the car plate showing – how’s that allowed?”

Meanwhile, to control conversations Twitter killed spaces overnight, said Koo founder.

“He further added that there are other things that Twitter had done in the past week which is not a democracy. One needs to speak up,” Bidawatka said.

Slamming Elon Musk Bidawatka said, “This place is what it is because of you and millions of other users like us. Let’s not fuel this guy’s ego.”

Earlier on Twitter #ElonIsDestroyingTwitter was trending but suddenly it was removed from Twitter on which Bidawatka said, “And guess what! Suddenly. Almost suddenly #ElonIsDestroyingTwitter has been removed from the trending section. Twitter is a publisher. Not a platform anymore!”

However, Musk has also suspended the Twitter accounts of Ryan Mac of The New York Times, Donie O’Sullivan of CNN, Drew Harwell of The Washington Post, Matt Binder of Mashable, Micah Lee of The Intercept, political journalist Keith Olbermann, Aaron Rupar, and Tony Webster, both independent journalists.

Twitter suspends accounts of journalists from CNN, NYT

Twitter Inc. has suspended the accounts of roughly half a dozen prominent journalists who were covering the social network’s billionaire owner Elon Musk.

Earlier on Thursday the Twitter account of many reporters from various publications including the Washington Post, the New York Times, Mashable, and CNN were listed as blocked and their tweets were not visible.

The company standard said this, “suspends accounts that violate the Twitter rules.”

According to the media reports the accounts has been suspended of Ryan Mac of The New York Times, Donie O’Sullivan of CNN, Drew Harwell of The Washington Post, Matt Binder of Mashable, Micah Lee of The Intercept, political journalist Keith Olbermann, Aaron Rupar and Tony Webster, both independent journalists.

Meanwhile, New York Times reporter Ryan Mac tweeted from the new account, “I was given no warning. I have no email or communication from the company about the reason for suspension.” Mac also shared the screenshot and wrote, “I report on Twitter, Elon Musk and his companies. And I will continue to do so.”

Moreover, Deputy Director of the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights Paul Barrett said, “This is management as dark performance art. The one thing for which we can all thank Musk is that he’s demonstrating, day by day, how dangerous (and self-destructive) it is for so much corporate power to be concentrated in the hands of a few Silicon Valley moguls.”
