In a satirical protest against the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, BJP MLA Ashish Sharma sent a box of 11 samosas to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, following an alleged CID inquiry over an incident involving samosas served at a government event. The protest comes amid criticisms of the state administration for allegedly prioritizing minor issues over pressing matters such as unemployment and state financial concerns.

Political Stir Over ‘Samosa Investigation’

The incident began on October 21, when CM Sukhu attended an event at the CID headquarters in Shimla. Reports indicated that samosas and cakes meant for the chief minister were mistakenly served to his staff instead. Following this, CID officials reportedly ordered an inquiry into the “mishandling” of the refreshments.

However, a CID senior official claimed that no formal inquiry was initiated, calling the incident an internal matter. Sharma took to social media to voice his concerns, saying, “At a time when Himachal is facing issues like unemployment and financial crisis, ordering a CID inquiry over samosas is disappointing.” He stated that sending the samosas was a symbolic protest to urge the government to address real issues.

BJP Youth Wing Joins the Protest

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’s youth wing, joined the protest, distributing samosas in Shimla and raising slogans against the state government. BJYM president Tilak Raj criticized the CID’s alleged focus on trivial issues, emphasizing that the state should instead prioritize addressing challenges like unemployment and rising drug use among young people.

Congress leaders, meanwhile, dismissed the BJP’s claims as political harassment. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called Kangana Ranaut the “daughter of Himachal” amid the backlash the Congress is facing over a purportedly objectionable post against the actress-turned-politician.

The row started after a purported post by Supriya Shrinate on Monday, featuring a picture of Ranaut dressed in a corset top with an objectionable caption, was widely shared on social media.

The post has since been deleted after a hue and cry from several BJP leaders and others. Supriya Shrinate also claimed that her social media handle had been hacked and misused and she would never demean another woman.

Ranaut has been fielded by the BJP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh for the upcoming general elections.

“She (Kangana Ranaut) is the daughter of Himachal. Her parents live here. Her father was made the General Secretary of Congress in Mandi…,” CM Sukhu told reporters in Shimla on Tuesday.

Replying to a query, the CM said, “We started Mahila Samman Nidhi by distributing Rs 1500 among the women and many other schemes.”

Several BJP leaders have come out in support of the actress-turned politician and criticised the Congress.

“…BJP is working towards taking legal action in this matter. It has become the Congress’ habit to insult women–“Matru’Shakti’. The whole of Mandi and Himachal Pradesh is angry. Congress will have to pay for this,” Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, told ANI today.

BJP leader Shaina NC said in a video message, “It’s time we fight stereotypes. Why can’t a woman who comes from the film fraternity or the fashion fraternity or any other profession join active public life? It is with the sentiment of wanting to do something good for your country that Kangana Ranaut has chosen to join the BJP, and it is an apology of a situation in which you have a woman leader from another party trying to stereotype and talk about her body parts”.

Ranaut, also hit out at the Congress leader, saying every woman deserves dignity.

“Every woman deserves dignity, no matter what profession she is in. The most I am hurt by is the ‘Mandi’ thing, which is known as Chota Kashi and has been the land of several Rishi’s,” Kangana said as she arrived at the Chandigarh airport.

Kangana Ranaut is headed the BJP headquarters in Delhi where she was called by the party president J P Nadda. Ranaut says taking further action against the Congress leader would be decided after she met the party president.

Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu pays floral tribute to Professor Simmi Agnihotri

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited Gondpur Jaichand village in Una district to pay respects to Professor Simmi Agnihotri, the late wife of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. Professor Agnihotri passed away on February 9, and a Shraddhanjali and Prarthna Sabha were held in her honor.

During his visit, the Chief Minister offered floral tributes and expressed his condolences, stating that Professor Simmi’s sudden demise was a significant loss to the family. He emphasized the need for emotional support between Mukesh Agnihotri and their daughter Astha Agnihotri during this time of grief. He also highlighted Professor Simmi’s contributions as an educationist and social worker, noting her impact on women’s empowerment.

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi also paid his respects, acknowledging Professor Simmi’s dedication to knowledge and social work. A documentary showcasing her life and achievements was screened at the event. CM Sukhu: Ambedkar promoted social harmony and equality

On Constitution Day, Sunday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented flowers to the statue of BR Ambedkar, the head of the Indian Constitution drafting committee, at Chaura Maidan in Shimla. This time, Chief Minister Sukhu noted that November 26 is a national holiday in India that honors the adoption of the country’s constitution. He made this statement while speaking at an event hosted by the Congress Party Scheduled Caste Department and the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Welfare Society. The Indian Constitution was ratified by the Constitutional Assembly of India on November 26, 1949, and it became operative on January 26, 1950.

“Ambedkar was the architect of the Constitution of India who contributed to promoting social harmony and equality. He worked throughout his life for the welfare and rights of the backward sections of society and the poor,” CM Sukhu said.
He said that the Constitution Day program would be organized as a state function from next year.
While interacting with media persons the Chief Minister said that the state government was committed to providing quality education to the students in the state.
He said that the state government was going to make comprehensive reforms in the field of education from the upcoming academic session and it has also been decided to provide education in English medium from the first class in the schools.

CM Sukhu : Centralised Cell to manage power sale, purchase in Himachal

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister, emphasized the significance of utilizing the state’s water resources and stated that a “Centralized Cell” must be established for effective management of the sale and purchase of power in order to increase revenue in the state. According to the Chief Minister, nature has blessed Himachal with an abundance of water resources. However, only 11,150 MW of the state’s total hydropower potential has been used through 172 hydro projects as of this writing.

In order to revolutionize the coordination of power trading strategies and transactions within the state’s energy sector, the government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to create a Single Energy Trading Desk. According to Chief Minister Sukhu, starting in the fiscal year 2024–2025, this action would reshape the Himachal Pradesh energy management landscape by ensuring effective short–medium–long–term planning and the economic disposition of energy resources.

Sukhu underscored the need for enhanced coordination among three key entities i.e. the Directorate of Energy (DOE), Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL).
He said that the lack of communication and disparate pricing strategies have sometimes led to power being sold at suboptimal rates and purchased at higher costs, exacerbating inefficiencies and losses to the state exchequer.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, stated on Sunday that despite the devastation caused by recent heavy rain and a landslide, unrelenting efforts are being made to rebuild essential roads and other essential amenities. According to the CM, temporary roads are being built quickly to speed up the transportation of agricultural and horticultural products and reduce financial losses for farmers. According to the State Emergency Operation Center on Sunday, as many as 281 roads, including National Highway 305, were blocked in Himachal Pradesh as a result of rain.

177 water supply schemes have also been hampered in addition to this. The government data also showed that there had been no fire incidents in the previous 24 hours. In Himachal Pradesh, constant rain has caused numerous landslides and cloudbursts. Himachal announces compensation for Kullu bus accident victims

The Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday announced relief and compensation for the victims of the bus accident in Kullu district that killed two persons and left six more injured.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh government, Sunder Singh Thakur said, “The government has announced an immediate relief of Rs 15,000 each to the injured and Rs 50,000 will be given as compensation to the kin of the deceased within a week”.
Two people lost their lives and six others were injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus fell down a 150-meter-deep gorge in Kullu district on Wednesday.

According to the officials, the bus was coming from Nirogi to Bhuntar, and the accident happened when the bus was taking a turn. Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and started the relief work. The injured were taken to a regional hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment. “There were a total of seven people travelling in the bus, of whom two died on the spot while five, including the driver, sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment,” the officials said. One of the five injured is in critical condition.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kullu Sakshi Verma said both the victims were identified as Godavari (40) and Vijay Kumar (30).

Himachal CM launches ‘Him Data Portal’ for efficient public services

Speaking at a governance and technology conference organised by the Bharti Institute of Public Policy of the Indian School of Business in Mohali, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the need for state government agencies to work together efficiently by accessing real-time data to better serve the public.

The CM launched the ‘Him Data Portal,’ a common digital platform that integrates the data of all organisations to improve the delivery of welfare schemes and services.

As part of the upcoming ‘Him Parivar’ project, the Himachal Pradesh government will provide a special digital identity to the people of the state from July 2023, Sukhu announced. The initiative aims to strengthen the state’s benefit delivery systems through ‘Him Pulse,’ which will link digital identity to the delivery of benefits for the targeted population.

Furthermore, Sukhu stated that the Him Parivar Project would provide easy access to information about essential facilities such as ration cards, family registers, electricity, drinking water, and more. People associated with the Him Pariyojna project will also have easy access to information about various welfare schemes, he added.

Water cess doesn’t violate rights, assures CM Sukhu

Hiamchal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukvinder Singh Sukhu clarified on Thursday that “none of the provisions of the water Cess Act passed by the state violates the water rights of neighbouring states.”
He further stated that the water cess has already been imposed by various state governments like Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir governments.
“None of the provisions of this Act violates the water rights of neighbouring states,” CM Sukhu said. “I would like to inform the House that this Act in no way violates the provisions of the Inter-State River Dispute Act-1956 or any other MoU and I want to assure all the neighbouring states that this Ordinance will not affect Legitimate Rights,” CM Sukhu assured.
“On the same lines, the Government of Himachal Pradesh has set up various power generation agencies to increase the revenue of the state. The cess is levied on water used by established hydropower projects and not on water flowing across neighbouring state borders,” CM Sukhu informed.
CM Sukhu made his comments after the governments of Punjab and Haryana objected to the Water Cess Act of 2023, which the governments of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab had introduced.
The claim by Punjab and Haryana that the Himachal government’s plan to levy a water cess is in violation of the Inter-State River Disputes Act, 1956, was later refuted by CM Sukhu as being illogical because it has no bearing on the water given to adjacent states.
“I also want to bring to notice that imposing water cess on power generation is under the jurisdiction of the state and it is logical that about 45000-hectare land of the state was submerged by the reservoirs of three projects of BBMB in the state. In Himachal Pradesh, the state does not have any right over the water from the reservoirs created by these projects, but the adverse environmental impact of these reservoirs Himachal has been facing for decades, be it local climate change, adverse changes in agriculture and horticulture, facing health problems, social and economic changes, all these changes have affected the reservoirs of these projects. Has badly affected human life,” the CM added.

Himachal Pradesh: CM Sukhu presented the Economic Survey in the Assembly

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented the State Economic Survey 2022–23 in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The document was prepared by the Economic and Statistics Department, Government of Himachal Pradesh. The economic survey revealed that the state’s real GDP, or GDP at constant prices, will grow by over Rs 18,143 crore during the current financial year 2022-23 as compared to the previous FY2021-22.

According to the first advance estimates of state income, this translates into growth in real GDP during Financial Year 2022–23 of 6.4 percent as compared to 7.6 percent in Financial Year 2021–22, the Himachal Pradesh government said in a statement. “The state’s real gross domestic product (GDP), or GDP at constant prices (2011–12), in the financial year 2022–23 is estimated to attain a level of Rs 1,34,576 crore, as against the provisional estimate of GDP for the financial year 2021–22 of Rs 1,26,433 crore,” the statement said.

“Nominal GDP or GDP at Current Prices in Financial Year 2022–23 is estimated to attain a level of Rs 1,95,404 crore as against the provisional estimate of GDP for Financial Year 2021–22 of Rs 1,76,269 crore, showing an absolute increase of Rs 19,135 crore. The growth in nominal GDP during Financial Year 2022–23 is estimated at 10.9 percent as compared to 13.5 percent in Financial Year 2021–22,” it said further.

As per the statement, the government of Hill State has outperformed in various sectors ranging from tourism to social services. “After the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic tourist arrivals [in Himachal Pradesh] have increased from 32.13 lakh in 2020 to 56.37 lakh in 2021 and further to 150.99 lakh in 2022 in absolute terms. It shows that tourist arrivals are reaching pre-pandemic levels,” the statement said.

“In the power sector, out of the total hydroelectric potential generated by five perennial river basins (27, 436), a total of 10,519 MW has been harnessed so far, of which 7.6 percent is under the control of the Himachal Pradesh government while the rest is exploited by the central government,” the government said further.

Besides it, the government said that the Health and Family Welfare Department in the State is providing curative, preventive, and rehabilitative services through a network of 108 civil hospitals, 104 community health centers, 580 primary health centers, and 16 civil dispensaries.
