Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar to Visit Bengaluru’s Flooded Zones Today

Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday surveyed chosen areas of the city that were hit by the rain overnight and said he would conduct a day-long city-wide inspection on Tuesday, along with deputy CM DK Shivakumar and city legislators.

“Considering that traffic congestion increases in the evening and could cause inconvenience to the public, only a few locations were visited today. Tomorrow, a full-day city tour will be undertaken along with the Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru legislators,” Siddaramaiah said.

“Sensitive areas will be visited, grievances of the people will be heard, the work done by officials will be reviewed, and necessary instructions will be issued,’ he told reporters after visiting some of the affected areas.

Encroached Drains and Ongoing BBMP Work Underlined

Highlighting the city’s stormwater drain infrastructure, he said, “In the city, stormwater drains have been encroached upon, drains are shallow and narrow, and filled with silt. The BBMP has been instructed several times to clear these, and works are still ongoing. There are 859.90 km of stormwater drains. So far, retaining walls have been built for 491 km.”

“Work is underway to build retaining walls along another 195 km. Work on 173 km of drains is being taken up with support from the World Bank. Drain work is progressing. Without stormwater drains, it is difficult to prevent waterlogging on roads,” he added.

Siddaramaiah Identifies 210 Low-Lying Areas, Relief Work in Motion

According to the chief minister, “About 210 low-lying areas in Bengaluru have been identified as sensitive and highly sensitive. Of these, works in 166 areas have been taken up. Temporary measures have been implemented in the remaining 44 locations. Out of these, 24 works are in progress. Once completed, this problem will be significantly reduced.”

He also announced financial compensation for a rain-related death: “A woman has died in Whitefield. A compensation of ₹5 lakh will be provided by the government.”

In reference to traffic and drainage problems identified by traffic police, Siddaramaiah stated, “Traffic police have identified 132 places. Out of these, works in 82 places are finished, and 41 works are pending. This year, drain-related works in the whole city have been undertaken.”

On clearing the fallen trees, the CM stated: “There are special teams to cut down trees immediately. Work will be undertaken in a manner that does not cause any inconvenience to the people.”

4,000+ Encroachments Identified, Half Cleared During Siddaramaiah Visit

Referring to encroachments, he further stated, “4,292 encroachments have been found out. 2,326 have been cleared. Orders have been issued so that more encroachments do not occur.”

“Heavy rain has been witnessed at Silk Board Junction and Hebbal Junction. Railways will take care that water flows smoothly in these areas,” Shivakumar informed the press.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the construction of an international cricket stadium in the region will boost the development of the district.

Speaking after symbolically starting the construction by batting, the CM said, “We have allocated 50 acres of land to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for this stadium.
This project will significantly contribute to the district’s economic growth and development.”

He urged officials to complete the stadium construction at the earliest to fulfill the expectations of cricket enthusiasts.

Land for a Stadium in Mysuru Too The CM added that the KSCA has requested land for a cricket stadium in Mysuru as well. “We will provide land in Mysuru too,” he assured.

Karnataka Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the ongoing Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam controversy, dismissing the calls for the CM’s resignation as baseless. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Khan affirmed that Siddaramaiah had no involvement in the MUDA case and should not be pressured to resign.

“MLA GT Devegowda has spoken the truth regarding the MUDA land scam, and even BJP MLA ST Somashekar agrees. Siddaramaiah will remain in office for the full five-year term,” Khan stated.

BJP Criticized Over Double Standards

Khan questioned the BJP’s stance on the matter, pointing out inconsistencies in their demands. He referenced the case involving BJP Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka, where the politician returned disputed land to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) after issues arose. “If the BJP is demanding Siddaramaiah’s resignation over the MUDA land case, why hasn’t Ashoka resigned for a similar issue?” Khan asked.

The minister argued that the court has only ordered an investigation into the MUDA case, not a resignation, and that the truth would eventually surface.

Khan’s comments came in light of a 2019 Karnataka High Court decision that dismissed criminal proceedings against R. Ashoka in a separate land scam case. Despite this, the BJP continues to demand Siddaramaiah’s resignation over the MUDA land dispute.

Karnataka To Build 100 Houses For Wayanad Landslide Victims, Announces CM Siddaramaiah

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Saturday that his government will build 100 houses for those affected by the landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. The latest update indicates that 215 bodies and 143 body parts have been recovered so far, including 98 males, 87 females, and 30 children. Post-mortem examinations have been completed on 212 bodies and 140 body parts, with 148 bodies identified by their relatives.

A total of 78 naval personnel have been deployed for rescue and relief operations in the affected areas. Officials reported that one team is stationed at the river base to ensure the continuous supply of materials, food, and provisions, while other teams focus on searching for survivors, clearing debris, and recovering bodies. A medical post has also been established at Chooralmala to provide care to the injured.

Additionally, a team of three officers and 30 sailors is assisting the Indian Army in assembling and constructing a Bailey Bridge over the river to reconnect Chooralmala and Mundakkai. This bridge is crucial for logistics support, facilitating the movement of heavy machinery and ambulances.

CM Siddaramaiah Visits Rameshwaram Cafe Blast Victims

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited injured victims of the Rameshwaram Cafe blast who were being treated in Bengaluru hospitals on Saturday, giving them assurances that their medical costs will be paid for by the government.

“Government will bear the treatment charges of all the patients. Around ten people are injured. Three are here in the Brookfield Hospital and six others are admitted in Vydehi Hospital. I am also going there. The patients are recovering and responding very well to the treatment” Siddaramaiah told reporters.

The chief minister also paid a visit at the well-known eatery in the city’s Whitefield area to the spot where the March 1 Blast occurred.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar, the Medical Director of Brookfield Hospital, said, “We are happy with the overall response of all three patients admitted at our hospital. A patient in the ICU has had a post-operative turbulent period. As a result of her surgery and anesthesia effects, her BP was low and her blood sugar levels were high. Her overall condition is fine and showing signs of improvement… Psychological help to boost their confidence and overcome stress is also being provided to the patients. Other patients will be discharged in another 24-48 hours.”

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai, meanwhile, criticised the Congress over the bomb incident, claiming that leaders of the ruling party assist the anti-national elements.

“From Day one this government has failed in maintaining law and order. Anti-national elements are getting a lot of support from the leaders of the ruling party and the morale of police has gone low. Huge corruption in the transfer of police has brought inefficient people to important positions. All the anti-social elements are now roaming in the city and now they have got the guts to put the bomb in Bengaluru city. This is linked to terrorist elements and there are some sleeper cells in Bengaluru. During our time, we detected 15 of them (sleeper cells) and put them behind bars. Appeasement politics by this govt has led to all this. The case should be handed over to the NIA and if this is not done, this govt should quit,” Bommai said.

Former Karnataka CM Calls for NIA Probe into Alleged Pro-Pakistan Slogans

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency to look into the use of Pro-Pakistan slogans and asked for the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state to be dismissed because “it was not functioning according to the Constitution”.

Bommai claimed that “anti-nationals” were shielded by the state government.

Speaking with media following his submission of a memorandum to the governor on Thursday asking for the removal of the Congress government in this place, he declared that the budget that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given was “far from true” and that the Congress Party had become morally bankrupt.

“Since the slogans had been raised in Vidhana Soudha, the nation’s security was under threat. The Congress leaders think everyone would forget this incident since the joint session of the State legislature has ended but the people of Karnataka would not forget. The BJP would continue this agitation. If the incumbent government stood by Pakistan, then it didn’t have any moral right to continue. It would be better if the present government goes as early as possible,” Bommai said.

The BJP leader claimed that while the visual media made it evident that pro-Pakistan slogans were being raised, the government had been deceiving the public by misrepresenting the FSL findings. This indicates that the administration was attempting to conceal this tragedy, he claimed.

“So far, no one has been arrested in this connection. In other cases, the cops would have arrested without waiting for the FSL report. If no truth was there then why did they file a suo motu case? The incumbent government was anti-national and anti-Kannadiga and it must be dismissed by the Governor,” he said.

In response to the statement made by Congress MLC BK Hariprasad, Bommai claimed that the MLC’s stance reflected the party’s philosophy.

“The Pakistan-sponsored terrorists were killing the Indian soldiers daily. Can they be called as friends? Seeing that statement they should be called as anti-nationals,” Bommai said.

He criticized BJP and RSS leaders for their silence on PM Modi’s inauguration of the incomplete Ram Temple, stating that it exposed their hypocritical version of Hindutva. Siddaramaiah affirmed the Congress’s consistent support for the construction of the Ram Temple, respecting the court’s verdict. He highlighted the hypocrisy of BJP, RSS, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders, who initially argued that the matter was one of faith, not for the court to decide, but later accepted the Supreme Court’s verdict.

Siddaramaiah expressed concern over controversial statements by the secretary of the Ram Mandir Trust, stating that Shaivas and Shaktas have no rights in the Ram Temple. He viewed this as an insult to Shaiva devotees and criticized the political exploitation of the Ram Temple for divisive purposes.

Accusing PM Modi of inaugurating the incomplete Ram Temple during the election period to stir up Hindutva sentiment and divert attention from failures, Siddaramaiah urged people not to fall for this false Hindutva trap. He noted the public’s increasing scepticism regarding the accounting of donations collected in the name of bricks for the temple.

Siddaramaiah clarified that while he had participated in numerous religious events, including temple inaugurations, he opposed the use of religion for political purposes. He stressed the constitutional principle of respect for all religions and affirmed his commitment, as well as that of the Congress party, to create a peaceful coexistence of all communities in society.

Karnataka CM Appoints MLA Rayareddy as Economic Advisor

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has appointed Basavaraj Rayareddy, a party MLA, as his economic advisor with a cabinet rank status on Friday (29 December 2023).

Additionally, R V Deshpande, a Congress MLA, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the State Administrative Reforms Commission, also with a cabinet ranking. Furthermore, BR Patil has been appointed as an advisor to the Chief Minister, and both Deshpande and Patil will enjoy the cabinet rank status as well.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that Rayareddy has extensive knowledge in the finance sector and expressed confidence that the Gruha Lakshmi scheme will benefit all residents of Karnataka.

In advance, the Chief Minister announced plans to organize a job fair in Bengaluru in the last week of January. A team of ministers, including Industry Minister MB Patil, IT, BT and Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge, Skill Development and Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar, Youth Empowerment and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister B Nagendra, Labour Minister Santosh Lad, and Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao, has been formed.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between the skills of job seekers and the needs of the industries and instructed the group of ministers to engage in discussions with industries and provide recommendations for long-term programs.

Karnataka CM urges proposal for funds to finish 52,000 houses under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme

Karnataka Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed to submit a proposal about the funds required for the completion of 52,189 houses which are meant to be distributed among the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana by the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation.

The minister in the review meeting of the Housing Department at the House Office said that the CM was briefed that the beneficiaries haven’t paid their contribution of Rs 2013 crore towards the construction of 52,189 houses. So, the department required Rs 2168 crore. The CM asked to submit a proposal to the Cabinet about the funds required to complete the project in a phased manner.

He said since 2013 till date, the beneficiaries were supposed to pay Rs 2013 crore as their contribution towards the construction of 52,189 houses but only Rs 134 crore had been paid. Most of the beneficiaries were poor and not in a position to pay Rs 4 lakh each.
They don’t get loans from the banks. As done in the case of Karnataka Slums Development Board, if each beneficiary pays Rs one lakh and the rest is paid by the government, this housing project would be completed. The same was conveyed to the CM who asked to move this proposal to the coming Cabinet meeting.

Khan said the CM was informed that if Rs 100 crore is allocated, 5,000 homes can be provided by February. Following a similar progression, allocating Rs 1879 crore would cover the total amount needed for the beneficiaries, totalling Rs 2168 crore.

This allocation would ensure the completion of all homes by next December. Under the scheme, each home was to receive Rs 7.50 lakh, with a subsidy of Rs 3.50 lakh, which the beneficiaries had to contribute. Now, if a beneficiary contributes Rs 1 lakh, the government will cover Rs 3 lakh. Additionally, the proposal for immediate release of Rs 500 crore to complete 1.82 lakh homes under the Slums Development Board had been agreed upon in the cabinet.

The Department has allocated Rs 60 crore out of the Rs 100 crore proposed for the development of minority colonies, with the remaining Rs 40 crore to be utilized for various purposes through the Finance Department.
Naseer Ahmad and Govind Raju, political secretaries to the Chief Minister, as well as Ateeq, the additional principal secretary, Jafar, the finance department secretary, Navin Raj Singh, the housing department secretary, and officials from both departments, were present at this occasion.

The decision to have the government directly fund the beneficiaries for the construction of 1.82 lakh homes under the Slums Development Board was also discussed in the cabinet. Similarly, for the pending 52,000 homes, the government has decided to pay the pending amount directly to the beneficiaries, who will only have to contribute Rs 1 lakh.

CM Siddaramaiah to hold meeting over signboard protests

A high-level meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is planned for this Thursday to discuss the forced installation of Kannada signboards at stores and offices. According to sources, representatives from the state Culture Department and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the main civic organization in the city, will attend the meeting. The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has directed that all name boards for commercial establishments must bear the phrase “60 per cent Kannada.” This has caused the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) to express concern earlier on Wednesday.

The FKCCI, while reiterating that it will always follow the rules of the government, stated that it will also instruct its members to adhere to the orders of the state or BBMP.
However, the FKCCI also urged the state government not to initiate any action under the above rule until the deadline of February 28, next year.
“We request the Government of Karnataka and BBMP not to initiate any action for the above rule till the deadline of 28th February 2024 and also urges the Government to ensure that no one takes law in their own hands to harass the Trade and Commercial establishments,” Ramesh Chandra Lahoti, president, FKCCI said in a statement.
Bengaluru Police, on Wednesday, detained the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), a pro-Kannada activist group, who staged a protest in Bengaluru demanding that all businesses and enterprises in Karnataka put up boards in Kannada at their shops and commercial establishments in keeping with the state’s obligation that 60 per cent of them are in Kannada.

Bomb threat to Bengaluru schools: Parents need not panic as security has been bolstered, says Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

Bomb threats scared Bengaluru’s schools, but authorities like Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah intervened without delay. They pledged to inspect everything and ensure the security of every child. They’re putting a lot of effort into identifying the person(s) responsible for these terrifying threats. “Parents, don’t worry, need not panic!” exclaimed CM.

On several schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah says, ‘Police will investigate, and I have directed them to do so. Security measures have been taken, and parents need not panic. I have instructed the police to inspect the schools and enhance security. A preliminary report has been received from the police department.”

Concerned about bomb threats at nearby schools, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar contacted the authorities right away. After receiving the threatening email, he was worried. He emphasized how serious these threats are, even though they might not seem real at first, particularly in light of the Bengaluru Habba. Shivakumar acknowledged the vibrant festival spirit of Bengaluru but urged everyone to be cautious and take these threats seriously.

The fifteen schools that received threats are being thoroughly inspected by police officers. Recognizing that there was a similar incident the previous year, Dr. Parameshwar emphasized the gravity of the situation and asked the CID officials to thoroughly look into the emails containing bomb threats. He also comforted kids and parents, telling them not to worry during this difficult time.

Karnataka CM to raise pension for senior citizens to Rs 2,000

Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has announced that his government will take necessary actions to increase pensions for senior citizens in the upcoming state budget.

He mentioned that they will seriously consider the request made by his cabinet colleague, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, to provide a monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to the elderly. A final decision on this matter will be made during the next budget deliberations. Currently, eligible elderly individuals in the state receive a monthly pension of Rs 1,000.

Speaking at an event to honor senior citizens who received state awards in various fields, Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of respecting and adopting the values of elders. He expressed the sentiment that living a meaningful life is a valuable aspect of their existence.

In July, Siddaramaiah, who also serves as the finance minister, presented the state budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. The Congress government, which recently came to power in Karnataka, significantly increased the budget size from Rs 265,720 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 327,747 crore in 2023-24, marking a substantial increase of Rs 62,027 crore, equivalent to a growth rate of 23 percent.

Siddaramaiah’s latest budget presentation was his seventh as Chief Minister, having previously presented six budgets during his tenure as Karnataka’s Chief Minister from 2013 to 2018. The state government referred to this budget as their ‘Guarantee Budget’ and stated that it fulfills all five key promises made to the people before the assembly polls. To implement these pre-poll promises, a total of Rs 35,410 crore has been allocated in the budget.

The Congress party’s five “guarantees” outlined in their manifesto included providing 200 units of free power to all, offering Rs 2,000 in monthly assistance to the female head of each family, distributing 10 kg of free rice to all members of below-poverty-line (BPL) families, granting Rs 3,000 every month to graduate youth, providing Rs 1,500 for diploma holders (aged 18-25) for two years, and allowing free travel for women in government buses.

In the May 10 elections, the Congress party secured 135 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, leading to the ousting of the previously ruling BJP, which won 66 seats, while the Janata Dal (Secular) secured 19 seats.

CM Siddaramaiah: Karnataka to challenge the Cauvery Water Authority decision in Supreme Court

The recommendation of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC), which instructed Karnataka to ensure the release of 3000 cusecs of Cauvery water at Biligundlu starting from September 28 until October 15, 2023, was met with disappointment by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, “Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) ordered to release 3000 cusecs of water, I have already spoken to our advocates. They have suggested us to challenge this order in the Supreme Court. We will challenge it in the Supreme Court. We don’t have water to release to Tamil Nadu. We are challenging the orders of the CWRC.”

CM Siddaramaiah added that 194 taluqs have been declared drought-prone and that he had prayed at the Mahadeshwara temple for more rain.

On Karnataka Bandh dated September 29 CM Siddaramaiah said, “Any protest is allowed in democracy, let them do it. But SC clearly said that any bandh and processions that disturb the livelihoods of others must not be held. BJP and JDS are always doing politics on this issue.”

In the meantime, BJP leaders are protesting in Bengaluru against the Karnataka government over the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. HD Kumaraswamy, the leader of the JD(S), also joined the protest. Recently, the JD(S) and BJP declared their pre-election alliance for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. On September 29, a Karnataka Bandh was declared after the CWRC instructed the Karnataka government to keep releasing water to Tamil Nadu. Deve Gowda, the leader of the JD(S), had previously written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to request his involvement in the matter.

“I hope and trust PM Modi that he will take action and see that further damage does not take place as far as Karnataka is concerned,” says JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda over his letter to PM Modi on Cauvery water dispute.

Karnataka was mandated by the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) to guarantee the release of 3000 cusecs of Cauvery water at Biligundlu beginning on September 28 and continuing through October 15, 2023. Before, 5000 cusecs of water were scheduled to be released.

Cauvery water row: Siddaramaiah-led delegation meets Jal Shakti Minister in New Delhi

The Cauvery Water Management Authority order, which sought to release 5000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days until September 26, is being challenged by the Karnataka government, which is asking for a stay of the order.

If there is law and order, Karnataka will develop, says CM Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah opened the conference of Karnataka State Senior Police Officers on Friday at the Director General of Police’s office. In addition, he met with senior police officers.

After the meeting, Siddaramaiah in a press conference said “There is a lot of crime going on in the society today. Crime cases should be reduced in the society. If there is law and order in the state, the state will develop.

‘If any person comes to the police station, that person should be given courage and justice should be given to that person. In many cities, there are rowdies, there are thieves, there are people who spread false news, the police should put a limit on all these. I am speaking from my experience here.”

G.Parameshwar, the home minister, was also present at the ceremony.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged Excise Department personnel on Thursday to combat illegal liquor in the state and reclaim tax arrears in order to meet the state’s tax collection objective.

“The revenue collection target of the department for the current year is 36,000 crores and the growth rate of tax collection is 5.31 per cent. All the officers should work hard to achieve the set goals,” Siddaramaiah said.

The CM also advocated for the required procedures to be taken to collect the tax arrears. He also stated that a separate meeting will be held to address the reform initiatives in the Excise Department. He commanded that Home Guards be stationed at border checkpoints and that suggestions be submitted to strengthen home guard services at other locations.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah calls on PM Modi

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to present State Budget today

The State Budget for Karnataka will be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today at noon. This will be the first budget since Congress took control of the state following its resounding victory in the state’s assembly elections on May 10. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has arrived at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru to present the state budget. Karnataka Minister HK Patil said, “People have a lot of expectations and confidence in us. The Congress party has built that credibility in Karnataka and in the country. I am sure that we will be able to deliver. People will appreciate the budget.”
This is Siddaramaiah’s seventh Budget as a Chief Minister, having presented six during his tenure as Karnataka CM from 2013 to 2018.
Earlier, CM Siddaramaiah announced that all five guarantees will be implemented in the current financial year at a cost of approximately Rs 50,000 crore every year.
“We had a long consultation. It will be given in this financial year itself,” Siddaramaiah said earlier in the month. The five ‘main’ guarantees, which Congress promised to fulfil after coming to power in Karnataka, were 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti); Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi); 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya); Rs 3,000 every month for unemployed graduate youth and Rs 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders (both in the age group of 18-25) for two years (vuva Nidhi) and free travel for women in public transport buses (Uchita Prayana).

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah : Encouragement of industrial development to promote employment generation

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated that industrial development in the state will be promoted because the sector has enormous potential for job creation. The Chief Minister held talks with a delegation led by industry body CII Karnataka president Vijay Krishnan Venkatesan on Tuesday. Siddaramaiah said that during his previous tenure as the Chief Minister, a separate department was established for skill development. Emphasis will again be laid on skill development of the youth.

BJP is an anti-people party, says CM Siddaramaiah before announcing 200 units of free electricity for tenants

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced 200 units of free electricity promised by the Congress ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, which came as a huge relief to those staying in rented accommodation in state.

The CM clarified that it will not just be restricted to those staying in their own households but will also be extended to the tenants as well under the Gruha Jyoti Scheme. During his statement, Siddaramaiah said that “People should not get confused. We will provide 200 units of free electricity to all households, even if they are staying on rent.”

On Monday, Siddaramiah claimed that the BJP is instigating misuse and extravagant use of free electricity up to 200 units scheme. In his statement, he said that “We are offering free electricity to help the poor and middle-class people of the State who are in distress. We have allowed 10 per cent more free electricity consumption than the average consumption in a year. This has been accepted and welcomed by the people of the State.”

He further added “The BJP government functioned by taking bribes while they were in power. The BJP has no right to protest.” He continued, “BJP is an anti-people party,” before adding that when the party was in power they looted the state.

CM Siddaramaiah: Karnataka budget to be presented on 7 July

The Karnataka budget will be presented on 7 July and a decision will be made in the cabinet meeting, according to Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, who made the announcement on Monday.

Speaking to the reporters at Davanagere helipad, “Budget session is likely to begin from July 3 and the budget will be presented on July 7 and a decision would be taken in this regard in the cabinet meeting.”

The chief minister of Karnataka also stated that discussions and consultations are necessary before determining the budget’s size.

“The previous Government had presented a budget of Rs. 3.09 lakh crore. We can only get clarity regarding the size of the budget only after the meeting on budgetary preparations will begin,” the Karnataka CM said.

While reacting to the questions on the Cow slaughter bill, the CM said “Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964 already existed and an amendment was brought to the same.”

He further added that the CEOs of the Zilla Panchayats and Deputy Commissioners have been given orders to deliver seeds and fertiliser to farmers on schedule.

In response to the concern over rising electricity rates, he stated that the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) had made a decision regarding the hike.

“The earlier decision is being implemented,” he said.
