The move sparked social media reactions and possible disciplinary action.
</excerpt>

A Chhattisgarh doctor has landed himself in controversy by smartly modifying a quote by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to generate more attention towards urological health—a move which could have resulted in disciplinary action.

Shivendra Singh Tiwary, a practicing urologist and owner of a medical store, utilized a politically controversial quote made by PM Modi in response to India’s retaliatory Operation Sindoor in order to promote his medical store. The operation was initiated on May 7, after the April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam that killed 26 people. India retaliated with a string of actions against Pakistan, including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down of the Attari-Wagah trade crossing, revocation of visa for Pakistani military advisors, and an import ban.

Using the PM’s words, ‘Blood and water can’t flow together – Prime Minister’, Tiwary reminisced about them in his post originally used to justify suspending water supply to Pakistan. He then gave it a medical twist: ‘So if you notice blood in your urine, visit a urologist immediately. It could be serious.’

Though there has been no official word from the college or from the state medical council about taking action against the doctor, news channels say he is likely to be questioned.

Social Media Reactions

On social media, however, responses have been mostly amused and admiring of Tiwary’s innovative marketing.

“Doctor studied MBBS with MBA in Marketing,” one user joked. “That is a great instance of ‘mauke pe chauka’ (making the best of an opportunity),” another wrote. A third remark was, “When you use 100% of your brain.”

In the meantime, Operation Sindoor kept on hogging the headlines. India’s retaliatory strike targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and killed more than 100 terrorists. Pakistan’s retaliatory efforts with drones and missiles were foiled, and a ceasefire was announced on May 10. But soon enough, the ceasefire was breached by Pakistani shelling and drone strikes along the Line of Control. Discussions between both sides’ military officials are imminent, with the ceasefire now valid till May 18.

</excerpt>

In a unique and inspiring journey to the world’s largest religious gathering, the Maha Kumbh Mela, Ajay Nishad from Sakreli village in Chhattisgarh is making his way to Prayagraj on skates. What sets Ajay apart is his commitment to skate the entire 600 kilometers, proving that his love for skating transcends mere hobby to become an extraordinary pilgrimage.

A Skater’s Passion for the Kumbh Mela

Ajay, a skating enthusiast, has always tried to travel by skating whenever possible. This time, he has taken his passion to new heights by setting out on a remarkable 600-kilometer trip to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Covering an average of 80-100 kilometers per day, Ajay rests each night at local hotels or lodges. Despite the challenges along the way, including poor road conditions that often force him to walk or catch a ride, he’s determined to complete his pilgrimage.

A Challenging Yet Fulfilling Journey

This marks Ajay’s longest journey yet, and it comes with its share of difficulties. He is carrying a 20-25 kg bag along with a saffron flag that waves as he skates. In the face of such an arduous trek, Ajay’s perseverance remains unshaken, motivated by the idea of making a pilgrimage to the sacred Kumbh Mela in a way that no one else has.

Support Along the Way

During his journey, Ajay has encountered numerous kind-hearted individuals who have offered him support in the form of financial help and meals. These gestures of goodwill have motivated him to keep going, pushing him further toward his destination.

A Spiritual Journey with a Personal Twist

Ajay’s skating adventure is not only a testament to his love for skating but also a spiritual journey. He has previously undertaken skating trips to temples near Sakti, such as Turridham and Madwarani, covering distances between 50 to 100 kilometers. This journey to the Kumbh Mela, however, is truly a milestone in his unique pilgrimage.

The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, which draws devotees from all over the world, has already seen over 7 crore people participating in holy dips at the Triveni Sangam. The attack occurred as the vehicle returned from an anti-Naxal operation. Chhattisgarh officials condemned the act and pledged intensified measures against Naxalism.
</excerpt>

A group of Naxalites detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday, targeting a vehicle carrying police personnel in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. The blast occurred on Bedre-Kutru Road while the vehicle, carrying around 20 soldiers, was returning from an anti-Naxal operation conducted the previous day. Nine people have been killed so far, including eight soldiers and the driver.

Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Arun Sao had condemned the attack strongly and assured that the sacrifices of the fallen security personnel would not go unaccounted for. “Whenever big operations are carried out against Naxalites, they do such cowardly acts… Chhattisgarh government will further intensify the steps it is taking against Naxalism. The government is not going to be afraid or bow down, strict action will continue against them,” said Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Raman Singh.

Background on Recent Anti-Naxal Operations

Five Naxalites were killed in a shootout with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Saturday. </excerpt>

A 35-year-old BJP worker, Kudiam Mado, was killed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on suspicion of being a police informer, according to an official report on Wednesday. This marks the fifth civilian murder by Naxalites in the district in the past seven days.

The incident occurred on the night of December 10 when Mado was at his home in Somanpalli village, under the jurisdiction of the Farsegarh police station. A group of Naxals stormed into his house, dragged him outside, and strangled him to death. A pamphlet found at the scene attributed the murder to the Maoists’ national park area committee, claiming Mado had been acting as a police informer.

Following the discovery, the police were alerted on Wednesday morning. A team was dispatched to the location, and Mado’s body was sent for post-mortem. Authorities have launched a search operation in the area to locate the assailants.

This attack comes just days after several other killings in the district. On December 4, two former sarpanchs, one of whom was also a BJP worker, were killed in separate incidents. The violence continued on December 6, when Naxals murdered a woman anganwadi assistant, followed by another woman being strangled to death on December 7.

With the latest killing, over 60 individuals have been killed in Naxal-related violence this year in the Bastar division, which includes Bijapur. Notably, nine BJP leaders were also killed between January 2023 and April 2024 in the same region, according to police reports.

</excerpt>

In a major operation, security forces neutralized 10 Naxals during an encounter in the forested area of Bhandarpadar in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district early Friday morning. The gunfight broke out while the personnel were conducting a search operation targeting Naxal activity in the region.

Inspector General of Bastar, P. Sundarraj, confirmed the recovery of all 10 bodies and noted that the operation is ongoing. Among the weapons seized were an AK-47 rifle, an INSAS rifle, and a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), along with other arms.

Significant Progress in Anti-Naxal Operations

This encounter adds to the tally of successes against Naxal forces in 2024. Since January, 257 Naxals have been killed, 861 arrested, and 789 others have surrendered. Notably, the number of Naxal-related deaths has dropped significantly—from 1,005 in 2010 to 96 as of September 2024.

For the first time in four decades, the annual death toll in 2022 fell below 100, highlighting the effectiveness of security measures.

Government’s Commitment to a Naxal-Free Chhattisgarh

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently declared that Chhattisgarh would be free of Naxals by 2026, emphasizing the government’s commitment to eradicating extremism in the region. Coordinated operations by security forces are a key strategy in achieving this goal.

The success of such operations signals progress in restoring peace and security to affected regions.

Ingredients That Intrigue

In the video, Chef Totlani explains the fusion concept behind this unique pani puri. “We brought the best of both worlds to this Pani Puri. The puri is from India, the stuffing is Thai heirloom tomatoes and fermented beans, and the pani is coconut milk infused with aromatic spices. Finally, it’s topped with tangy fire ants sourced from Chhattisgarh,” he elaborated.

The preparation showcases puris filled with a mix of ingredients, with the traditional tamarind or mint water replaced by creamy coconut milk. The surprising garnish of red ants adds an adventurous flair to the dish.

Social Media Reactions

The post has garnered significant attention, amassing over 65,000 views and nearly 1,000 likes. Reactions from Instagram users have been mixed. While some expressed their distaste, saying things like, “No thank you,” and “Pani puri is an emotion for Indians, don’t ruin it,” others showed curiosity, commenting, “Seems interesting” and “Would love to try.”

One user humorously remarked, “Umm that’s Ant-eresting!” while another cautioned, “Why why why!!! Just because you can doesn’t mean you should!!”

The Rise of Ant-based Dishes

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time red ants have been spotlighted in Indian cuisine. Earlier this year, a dish from Odisha called Kai Chutney, made with red weaver ants, received a prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This dish is not only unique in flavor but also boasts nutritional benefits, containing zinc, protein, iron, calcium, and vitamin B-12, which can support healthy brain development.

As culinary innovation continues to thrive, this fusion pani puri presents an exciting opportunity for adventurous eaters. Whether it sparks curiosity or repulsion, it undeniably adds a new dimension to the beloved street food, challenging traditional perceptions and encouraging food lovers to step outside their comfort zones.

He reported that since January, 194 Naxalites have been killed, 801 arrested, and 742 surrendered, underscoring the effectiveness of the state’s initiatives.

Appeals to Naxalite Youth and Government Support

Shah urged Naxalite youth to abandon violence and reintegrate into mainstream society, citing that nearly 13,000 individuals in the northeast and Jammu Kashmir have successfully done so. He congratulated the Chhattisgarh government, including the Chief Minister and Director General of Police, for their role in achieving these results.

“The progress can be attributed to the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, which saw funding increase from Rs 1,180 crore (2004-2014) to Rs 3,006 crore (2014-2024), along with Rs 3,590 crore allocated under the Special Central Assistance Scheme over the past decade,” Shah stated.

Infrastructure and Security Enhancements

Shah highlighted significant improvements in security infrastructure, mentioning that 544 fortified police stations have been established in the last decade. He noted the expansion of the road network from 2,900 km to 11,500 km, and the installation of 15,300 mobile towers, with over 5,000 now offering 4G connectivity.

Additionally, he remarked on the enhanced aerial support for security forces, with the number of helicopters deployed increasing from two to twelve. Shah also pointed out that investments of Rs 1,000 crore have been made for air support and Rs 131 crore for building a trauma center in Jagdalpur.

The Home Minister reported a significant reduction in violence across India, with incidents decreasing from 16,463 to 7,700, and a 70% reduction in deaths among civilians and security forces. He also noted that the number of districts experiencing violence has dropped from 96 to 42.

Shah emphasized the inspirational progress made in Chhattisgarh, where villagers have started participating in elections after decades of Naxal influence. “The success achieved in Chhattisgarh serves as an inspiration for all. New development campaigns are bringing government benefits to the people, leading to the opening of schools and grain shops in villages,” he concluded.

</excerpt>

Ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the poll-bound state, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took jabs at the Congress, pointing to its diminishing influence and the absence of “big leaders” in Haryana during the Assembly elections. Saini compared the Congress’s current state in Haryana to its decline in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, where the party was once strong but has seen its power wane.

“In recent days, it has become evident that the Congress in Haryana is facing the same fate as in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Even Congress leaders have started to acknowledge this. This is why, in the last 15-20 days, no prominent Congress leader has come to Haryana. Out of desperation, Congress is now releasing its manifesto twice, and its leaders are making irrational statements. The party is in confusion and doesn’t know how to proceed,” Saini told the media.

Saini also referenced a recent statement by Rahul Gandhi regarding reservations in the U.S., where Gandhi mentioned that Congress might consider scrapping reservations when India becomes a more “fair place.”

“Now, news has come that Rahul Gandhi, who made anti-reservation remarks abroad, is coming to Haryana for a 2-3 day political tour. Haryana has developed in all directions under the BJP government over the past 10 years. He should come and enjoy his visit,” Saini remarked.

Saini added, “The youth of Haryana will question him about his silence on the ‘Kharchi, Parchi’ (bribery and favoritism) during Hooda’s tenure. Dalits will ask how he can come after opposing reservations. Farmers will confront him about Congress’s land deals with influential families, and women will question his unfulfilled promises made in Himachal Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi owes answers to these issues.”

In contrast, earlier this month, Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP government during a speech in Haryana, highlighting rising “unemployment” in the state. He blamed the policies of the Centre and state governments for diminishing job opportunities and promised that Congress, if returned to power, would focus on employment generation.

“Recently, during my visit to America, I met young men from Haryana in Texas. They told me that 15-20 thousand people from Haryana are migrating to the U.S. due to lack of opportunities. I even saw a video showing 15-20 people crammed into one room,” Gandhi said.

</excerpt>

Victims from the Naxal-affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh voiced their struggles and pain today at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. These individuals, who have suffered at the hands of Naxalite violence, shared their experiences and urged for more support and assistance from the government. Along with the physical and emotional trauma caused by Naxal attacks, they also highlighted the lack of development and basic facilities in their villages, which has plagued the region for years.

The victims expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Chhattisgarh government, acknowledging the significant steps taken towards the development of Bastar. Notably, the recently launched Niyad Nalla Nar Yojana has provided a new direction for the development of basic infrastructure in the region. Through this scheme, remote areas in Bastar are now seeing improvements in roads, water supply, electricity, and healthcare services, leading to a better quality of life for its people.

Young Man Loses His Leg in Maoist Bomb Explosion Avalam Mara, from Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, lost his left leg on February 22, 2017, due to a pressure bomb planted by Maoists. While cutting bamboo in the forest, Avalam accidentally stepped on the bomb, which exploded, severely injuring his leg. The incident has forced him to rely on crutches for the rest of his life. Once a key breadwinner for his family, Avalam now faces immense economic hardship as his ability to provide for his family has been drastically impacted.
Innocent Girl Loses Eye in Maoist Explosion

On December 18, 2013, 13-year-old Radha Salam from Narayanpur district lost one of her eyes and suffered severe facial injuries in a Maoist blast. While playing with her cousin, she picked up a shiny object, which turned out to be a bomb planted by the Maoists. The explosion injured both children severely. This incident devastated Radha’s family, especially since her mother had already passed away, and her father now bears the responsibility of caring for her. Despite assurances of financial aid from local authorities, Radha continues to face both physical and emotional challenges.

Woman Loses Leg in Maoist IED Attack Bhime Markam, a livestock farmer from Dantewada, became a victim of a Maoist IED explosion on November 9, 2016. The blast resulted in the loss of her left leg and inflicted serious injuries on other parts of her body. Bhime, once the primary provider for her family, now struggles with the economic consequences of the incident. While the local administration has promised assistance, the attack has significantly altered her life, and she continues to face an uphill battle.
Maoist Attack on Passengers: 15 Villagers Killed

On May 17, 2010, Maoists attacked a passenger bus, killing 15 villagers and injuring 12 others. Dudi Mahadev, a resident of Sukma district, lost his right leg in the attack, while another injured passenger, Mamta Gorla, sustained severe injuries to her body. This attack stands as yet another brutal reminder of the impact of Maoist violence, where innocent lives are torn apart.

These stories deeply moved the audience present, bringing the human toll of Naxalite violence to the forefront. Commitment from Central and State Governments on Naxal Elimination

Yesterday, in New Delhi, victims of Naxal violence from Bastar met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to share their experiences. The Home Minister assured them that their issues would be addressed with utmost seriousness. He praised the victims’ resilience and courage and reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism. Shah also emphasized the government’s dedication to developing Naxal-affected areas through special schemes. Meanwhile, under the guidance of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, around 70 families from Bastar, affected by Naxal violence, met with Shah.

In a startling case from Chhattisgarh, a 40-year-old man named Sanjay Jaiswal experienced a brain haemorrhage, which doctors attribute to exposure to extremely loud DJ music. Jaiswal, a resident of Balrampur district, was assisting with DJ equipment when he suddenly felt dizzy. Despite initially dismissing his symptoms, his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to severe headaches and vomiting later that evening.

Diagnosis and Medical Findings

Upon seeking medical attention at Ambikapur Government Medical College, Jaiswal underwent a CT scan that revealed a blood clot in the posterior part of his brain, a result of a ruptured blood vessel. Given Jaiswal’s normal blood pressure and lack of previous health issues, this diagnosis was unexpected. The breakthrough came when Jaiswal admitted to standing near loud DJ speakers before his symptoms began, leading doctors to consider that the noise might have triggered his condition.

Health Risks of Excessive Noise

Dr. Shailendra Gupta, an ENT specialist, emphasized the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to loud noises. He explained that such exposure can lead to hearing loss, increased blood pressure, and even heart attacks. Dr. Gupta referenced a 2022 study involving traffic personnel exposed to constant noise, where a significant number reported hearing loss and other symptoms like insomnia and irritability.

Calls for Stricter Noise Regulations

This incident has heightened concerns about noise pollution in Chhattisgarh. Local residents and business owners have called for stricter regulations on DJ music, citing its disruptive impact on children’s education and its adverse effects on wildlife. The Chhattisgarh High Court had previously criticized the state government for its lack of action on noise pollution. In response, the Chief Secretary held a high-level meeting to address the enforcement of noise control measures.

The case of Sanjay Jaiswal underscores the severe health implications of loud noise exposure and highlights the urgent need for stringent noise pollution controls. As the debate continues, it remains crucial for local authorities to implement and enforce effective noise regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.

</excerpt>

In a remarkable act of bravery, 17-year-old Sushila from Jhara village in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district saved her father, Somdhar Korram, from a violent attack on August 5. The incident occurred around 7 pm when four armed men forcibly entered their home and assaulted Somdhar with sharp weapons, initially targeting his neck but landing a blow on his chest instead.

Sushila, who had dropped out of school after class 7, was quick to react. Upon discovering the attack while she was returning to serve dinner, she confronted the armed men alone. In a desperate bid to protect her father, she managed to snatch an axe from one of the attackers and shielded her injured father by standing between him and the attackers. Her loud screams attracted the attention of the villagers, who arrived promptly to help. They took Somdhar to a nearby hospital, and he was later transferred to Dimrapal Medical College in Jagdalpur, where his condition is now stable.

Initially, the attack was thought to be related to Maoist activities, but the family suspects a possible involvement of Somdhar’s younger brother due to a recent land dispute. Narayanpur SP Prabhat Kumar has dismissed the Maoist link and has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

Sushila described the attackers as masked men, with one wearing a raincoat. Despite the chaos, her quick thinking and bravery were instrumental in saving her father’s life.

</excerpt>

The Chhattisgarh High Court has ruled against a teacher’s request to dismiss a chargesheet following the suicide of a Class VI girl, highlighting that being small does not diminish a child’s humanity compared to adults, and that corporal punishment inflicts severe harm.

“It is cruel to subject a child to physical violence in school in the name of discipline or education. Child, being a precious national resource, is to be nurtured and attended to with tenderness and care and not with cruelty,” the bench of justices Ramesh Sinha and Ravindra Kumar Agrawal said.

The ruling came during the review of a petition filed by Sister Mercy, also known as Elizabeth Joseph, a teacher at a well-known school in Ambikapur. The FIR against her, under IPC Section 305, stemmed from the victim’s suicide note, which implicated the teacher. The note mentioned that Sister Elizabeth had confiscated the ID cards of the victim and her classmates.

The teacher’s defense argued that she had no direct involvement with the deceased, as she taught only Class IV students. On the day of the incident, the teacher had only reprimanded the student and taken her ID card as part of standard disciplinary measures, with no intent to cause harm. The defense suggested that the teacher’s actions were misinterpreted due to the deceased’s emotional state and peer influence.

In contrast, the state counsel pointed out that the victim appeared distressed and unwell upon returning home from school, which led to her writing the suicide note and subsequently taking her life.

The court concluded that using corporal punishment to reform a child cannot be justified as part of education. It rejected the petition, affirming that the evidence on record was sufficient to proceed with charges against the teacher.

</excerpt>

An anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district has uncovered a significant threat to the local economy. For the first time, security forces have discovered equipment used to print fake currency in Maoist camps, raising concerns about the impact on local markets.

The discovery was made during a joint search operation by Sukma Police, District Reserve Guard, and the CRPF in the forests of Korajguda. The operation was based on intelligence inputs about Maoists printing counterfeit currency in the forest. Although the rebels managed to escape, security forces seized currency printing machines, ink, templates, and fake notes in denominations of ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500. They also found a gun, a wireless set, and a large quantity of explosives.

District police chief Kiran Chavan explained that the ongoing security operations have severely disrupted the Maoists’ cash flow, forcing them to resort to printing counterfeit currency. “The way they are printing notes indicates a significant money shortage. The ongoing operations in the interior areas have significantly reduced their funding,” Chavan said.

Maoists frequently purchase supplies from weekly village markets, and their use of fake currency in these transactions could destabilize the local economy. In response, local authorities and security forces are launching awareness campaigns in villages, urging residents to be vigilant and reject any suspicious currency. Traders and hawkers, particularly those in remote areas, are being advised to carefully check notes before accepting them.

Since 2022, Maoists have reportedly adopted the tactic of printing fake currency to address their cash crunch. Sources indicate that at least one member from each area committee was trained to produce fake notes, which were then circulated in local markets, integrating into the cash system.

</excerpt>

It’s often said that our teenage years or childhood are meant to be the best days of our lives, filled with innocence and joy. But, unfortunately for some children, it is marked by relentless hardships or the constant shadow of danger.

The life of this 13-year-old child, who has lost her left-leg to Maoist IED blast three weeks ago in Sukma already feels, she lives on a borrowed time.

As she continues to get treated in AIIMS Raipur, the child repeatedly asks these questions-‘How can I save myself from the next blast?’, ‘What was my mistake? ‘What wrong have I done? Will I get blown up again?’

These questions bring the chilling reality of the usage of IED’s by Maoists in Bastar- which spreads terror everywhere in its wake.

On May 26th morning, the 13-year-old child lost her leg to disguised Maoist IED, which was hidden underground, while collecting mahua fruits with her friends.

Despite her friends sustaining minor injuries, the child herself lost her left leg due to splinter injuries. She later fainted, and her aunt walked 16 km to confront the Maoists.

Upon learning that one of their IEDs had injured a minor, the Maoists later sent a medical team to her home. However, they initially insisted on treating her with ‘jadi-booti’. It was only, due to her grievous condition, which deteriorated to the point of near death that the Maoists allowed the family to take her to the hospital.

Later, when the word spread of minor’s injury, Chhattisgarh deputy CM & State’s home minister Vijay Sharma, admitted her to AIIMS-Raipur, where doctors managed to save her life, but they couldn’t save her leg.

Later, the deputy CM announced, that the minor will be provided with every help possible under govt’ rehabilitation plan, and he also declared, that they’ll try to find IED detection equipment and bolster human intelligence, to prevent these incidents.

Issue Of IED Blasts In Chhattisgarh

Since the past six months, 4 civilians have lost their lives to Maoist IED blasts in Bastar. Besides common people, the armed forces have been killed and injured in 24 blasts happened so far.

Due to IED blasts alone, 58 army officers have lost their lives since the past 5 years and the livestock of people continue to get destroyed.

Speaking to TOI, IG P Sundarraj revealed, ‘Targeting security forces through IEDs is one of the oldest tactics of the banned CPI(Maoist) outfit. Countless precious lives have been lost, both among security personnel and innocent civilians. The loss of limbs and eyes in such explosions causes unimaginable lifelong trauma to survivors of IED blasts.’

But talking about the current situation, retd brigadier Basant Ponwar said,

‘The situation is much better now than earlier when sniffer dogs didn’t know how to detect gunpowder. The first batch of sniffer dogs detected more than 550 IEDs in their lifetime, which means if one IED can kill five people, the recovery of 550 has saved hundreds of lives.’

But the counter-insurgency specialist warned, that even IEDs made of normal steel box, buried 2-3 inches below the surface is enough to kill people.

Security measures against Naxalites in the “Red Corridors” have intensified, bolstering anti-Naxal operations. Last month, security forces eliminated 12 Naxalites in Bijapur district during a prolonged gun battle.

Simplifying Goods and Services Tax (GST) and easing tax compliance burdens are also key priorities for the government. The upcoming budget is expected to integrate elements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 100-day plan, focusing on expanding production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes, particularly in labor-intensive sectors like leather.

This will be Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s seventh consecutive budget presentation. Her previous budget in February was an interim one, coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections scheduled between April and May. The interim budget emphasized economic policies to foster growth, inclusive development, productivity enhancement, and opportunities across society.

The government has outlined special attention to the eastern region, encompassing Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal, aiming to transform them into growth engines as part of the vision to achieve India’s development by 2047.

Operation is underway.” Seven bodies of the Naxals were discovered at the encounter site.

Three Jawans of the Narayanpur DRG, wounded in the Friday night encounter, were airlifted to a hospital from the Gobel area under the East Bastar Division. A joint team of DRG from Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada, and Jagdalpur, along with the 45th Battalion of ITBP, was conducting an anti-Maoist operation in the Abujhmad area when the Maoists initiated gunfire. The forces promptly retaliated, as confirmed by the police.

Earlier, on June 2, Naxalites set fire to a mobile tower in Durmi village in Narayanpur district. On May 25, security forces encountered and killed two Naxalites in the forests of Jappemarka and Kamkanar in Bijapur. Naxalism remains a persistent challenge in Chhattisgarh for both the state and central governments.

The dense forests and challenging terrain of the region have facilitated Naxal groups in establishing their base and operations in the state. In May, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in an exclusive interview with ANI, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling Naxalism, expressing confidence that the country would be free of the issue in the next two to three years.

Shah highlighted the welfare schemes reaching tribal areas, previously deprived of such initiatives, due to efforts made by the BJP-led government. He noted significant progress, with several states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra being declared free of Naxalism, while the issue persists in a few districts of Chhattisgarh.

“I think that in the next 2-3 years, the country will be completely free of the Naxal issue. After the BJP government came to power in Chhattisgarh, within just 4.5 months, 112 Naxals have been neutralized, around 375 have surrendered, and 153 have been arrested…On the contrary, Congress says that fake encounters are being done,” Shah emphasized.

</excerpt>

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai delivered a pointed criticism on Monday directed at the Congress party, after party leader Radhika Khera resigned from its primary membership. Khera cited mistreatment by party members during a visit to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as the reason for her resignation.

“She was insulted by her own people in the Congress Bhawan. They talk about ‘Naari Nyay’, but there is a huge difference between what they say and what they do. This is the reason why Congress is in such a situation,” Sai said.

In her letter to the AICC, Radhika Khera, the Congress leader, claimed that she was denied justice following mistreatment by party members during her visit to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“It is an established truth since ancient times that those who support religion have been opposed. Examples of this range from Hiranyakashipu to Ravana and Kansa. At present, some people are opposing those who take the name of Lord Shri Ram in the same way. For every Hindu, the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram holds great significance with its sacredness and while every Hindu considers his life successful just by seeing Ram Lalla, some people are opposing it,” the letter read.

“The opposition to this noble work of mine reached such a level that justice was denied to me in the incident that happened to me in the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress office. I have always fought for the justice of others from every platform, but when it came to my justice, I found myself defeated in the party. Being a devotee of Lord Shri Ram and a woman, I am deeply hurt,” the Congress leader added.

She further stated that she took this step after all the top leaders were informed and justice remained elusive to her.

“I have taken this step today as I am hurt by the fact that I did not get justice even after informing all the top leaders,” Khera said.

Meanwhile, Sai expressed continued confidence in the party’s prospects in the state.

“Wherever we are going, we see a huge enthusiasm in the people in the favour of BJP and BJP is going to win 11 out of 11 seats in the state,” Sai said.

Voting for 2 out of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in Chhattisgarh took place during the initial two phases of the ongoing general elections. Bastar, previously deemed a Naxal stronghold, saw voters cast their ballots on April 19. Additionally, polling for Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, and Kanker was conducted in the second phase on April 26.

During the third phase of polling in the state, constituencies including Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Surguja, Raigarh, Jangir-Champa, and Korba will be covered.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged nearly victorious in all poll contests in the state, securing 9 out of the 11 seats, while the Congress managed to secure only 2 seats.

</excerpt>

In the Kistaram police station area, a gunfight erupted within a forest while distinct teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were conducting an anti-Naxal operation, as stated by Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran G Chavan. The encounter transpired during the deployment of these elite units from the CRPF, signifying the concerted effort to combat Naxalite insurgency in the region.

Sukma’s Superintendent of Police, Kiran G Chavan, reported that the skirmish unfolded amidst dense foliage as the DRG and CoBRA teams carried out their mission against Naxal forces. This engagement underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address the insurgency threat posed by Naxalite groups in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.

The forest skirmish occurred between Naxalites and the DRG team, approximately 450 kilometers away from the state capital of Raipur, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran G Chavan confirmed.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran G Chavan confirmed that following the cessation of the gunfight, the body of a Naxalite and a weapon were discovered at the scene. He further stated that a search operation was ongoing in the surrounding area. This development marks the latest encounter in the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalite insurgency in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, which encompasses seven districts, including Sukma.

According to police reports, this recent confrontation brings the total number of Naxalites killed this year to 81 in various encounters across the Bastar region. The consistent efforts of security forces in confronting and neutralizing Naxalite threats underscore the persistent challenges posed by insurgency in this area. Notably, on April 16th, security forces engaged and eliminated 29 Naxalites in an encounter in the Kanker district of the region, further emphasizing the intensity of the ongoing operations against Naxalite groups.

The recovery of a Naxalite’s body and weaponry following the engagement underscores the risks and realities faced by security personnel in their efforts to maintain law and order in the Bastar region. The continued presence and activities of Naxalite groups in the area necessitate vigilant and proactive measures from law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of the region’s inhabitants.

Soni, who currently holds the position of special secretary at Mantralaya, was apprehended from the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) office, where he was summoned for interrogation regarding the rice scam case filed by ACB/EOW.

Soni was detained and brought before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Raipur, where the agency intends to request his custody for questioning. In a statement last year, the federal agency asserted that Rs 175 crore in bribes were purportedly generated through this scam for the “benefit of higher powers”.

“…in this process, corruption was done on a large scale and money was collected on the basis of per quintal. Various government officials misused their position and colluded with the rice millers and received undue benefits, causing financial loss to the government,” it said.

The agency previously stated in a release that its investigation originated from a complaint filed by the Income Tax Department in front of a court in Raipur. The complaint from the IT department asserted that members of the Chhattisgarh rice millers association purportedly “colluded” with officials of the state marketing federation Ltd (MARKFED) and “hatched a conspiracy to misuse the special incentive where Rs 40 per quintal of paddy was paid by the state government to rice millers for custom milling of rice”.

Addressing the public meeting in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund on Tuesday, PM Modi said Congress and development can’t go hand in hand, adding, […]
</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued to criticize the Congress on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh, alleging that the party resorted to ‘fuelling violence’ during its tenure at the Centre as a means to ‘hide its corruption’.

Addressing the public meeting in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund on Tuesday, PM Modi said Congress and development can’t go hand in hand, adding, “Wherever and whenever the Congress ruled, development was derailed. The Congress and development don’t go hand in hand. Violence and corruption peaked under their rule instead.”

Prime Minister Modi accused the Congress of allowing Naxalism to ‘flourished’ in Chhattisgarh during its rule, asserting that the Left-Wing terrorism has been substantially controlled under the current BJP government. He emphasized that the coalition government in the state is dedicated to eradicating the threat completely.

“The Congress couldn’t stop the violence in the Northeast. In Chhattisgarh, too, Naxalism flourished under Congress. Why? It was because of their corrupt ways. To hide its corruption, Congress fuelled violence. While people suffered, they filled its coffers,” PM Modi said.

“Under the BJP, corruption and Naxalism are under control. Naxalism is rapidly decreasing in Chhattisgarh. I guarantee that Naxalism will be rooted out altogether in Chhattisgarh,” he added.

Taking a dig at the Opposition bloc–INDIA–over apparent disunity, PM Modi added, “It seems that there is a conflict within the INDI alliance. Two days ago, there was a rally of the INDI alliance in Jharkhand, where heads were broken and clothes torn off in public. During their first rally, several leaders were seen holding each other’s hands on stage. However, in the last rally, you could all see that almost half of their leaders have left them.”

“In Delhi, where the royal family of the Congress lives (New Delhi constituency), the vote of their first family, itself, will not go to Congress this time (the grand old party has set aside the constituency for AAP as part of a seat-sharing deal). And, they are going around the country, asking you to vote for them. There is no Congress candidate this time where their first family resides,” PM Modi added.

He stated that the initial phase of polling witnessed predominantly one-sided voting in support of the BJP-led NDA, indicating that the electorate has firmly decided to once again place their electoral confidence in the BJP.

He also encouraged voters to cast their ballots in record numbers during the second phase of polling. Earlier in the day, he described the country’s ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) as his ‘Raksha Kavach’ (protective shield), asserting that as long as the ‘mothers and sisters’ stand by him, the Opposition’s efforts to push its ‘agenda’ against him will not prevail.

PM Modi hit back at Congress leader Charan Das Mahant over his call to ‘break’ his head in a public rally at Janjgir-Champa in Chhattisgarh, saying “No one can inflict any harm on Modi.”

“Congress people (Mahant) are now saying they will break Modi’s head. As long as my mothers and sisters are with me, no one can bring any harm to Modi. The mothers and sisters are my ‘Raksha Kavach’ (protective shield). You can imagine the kind of leaders, who abuse the ‘Modi Samaj’ (a reference to Rahul Gandhi’s alleged imputation that everyone with the surname ‘Modi’ was a thief) and ‘Sahu Samaj’ (a community of traders),” the Prime Minister said.

“Now, they are threatening to break Modi’s head. A Congress leader even wished death to Modi. But his wish will never come true because where 140 crore people stand with you, ‘vaha maut ko bhi lambe samay ke liye intezar karna padhta hai’ (even death has to wait a long time),” he added.

Voting for the Lok Sabha in Chhattisgarh is divided into three phases. The first phase saw only one seat go to polls on April 19, while the remaining 10 Lok Sabha constituencies will vote on April 26 and May 7.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured victory in 9 out of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state, while the Congress managed to win only 2 seats.
