</excerpt>

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Champai Soren, has expressed strong confidence in his party’s success in the ongoing Jharkhand Assembly elections. Speaking from his constituency, Saraikela, on Monday, Soren asserted that the BJP will secure a clear majority. He highlighted the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration as a key concern in the Santhal Pargana region, stressing the party’s commitment to addressing the problem. “We will win in Jharkhand with a majority… Bangladeshi infiltration is the biggest issue in Santhal Pargana, and we have to uproot the infiltrators,” Soren stated.

Himanta Biswa Sarma Backs BJP’s Campaign Efforts

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is co-in-charge of the BJP’s election campaign in Jharkhand, also expressed optimism about the party’s prospects. He emphasized that the people of Jharkhand are eager for a “double-engine government” led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to a unified BJP government at both the state and central levels.

“We spent the last four months campaigning across Jharkhand. The response has been overwhelming, and the people are excited for PM Modi’s leadership,” Sarma said. He added that development and the fulfillment of citizens’ aspirations are central themes of the BJP’s campaign. “I am confident that the NDA will form a government with a full majority,” he asserted.

In response to the BJP’s confident predictions, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Manoj Pandey criticized the party’s tactics, accusing the BJP of attempting to deceive voters. Pandey argued that the BJP’s actions reflect desperation as it faces the prospect of a significant electoral defeat.

“Election Commission took cognizance, albeit late. The BJP’s behavior is a sign of desperation; they are aware of their declining support. They are trying to mislead the people of Jharkhand with edited and fabricated videos,” Pandey told reporters. He claimed that the people of Jharkhand continue to support the current Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the JMM.

Election Phases and Result Schedule

The Jharkhand Assembly elections are being conducted in two phases. The first phase took place on November 13, while the second phase is scheduled for November 20. The vote counting will occur on November 23, with the final results expected to be announced the same day. The BJP, led by its alliance under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and the JMM, the ruling party, are locked in a closely watched contest, with both sides projecting confidence in their chances of victory.

The BJP’s campaign has focused on promises of economic development, improved infrastructure, and measures to curb infiltration. The party’s leaders, including Champai Soren and Himanta Biswa Sarma, have rallied support around the concept of a “double-engine government” for enhanced state-central cooperation.

On the other hand, the JMM has centered its campaign on the achievements of the current state administration under Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The party aims to capitalize on local support and the perception of pro-people policies implemented during Soren’s tenure.

With the final phase of voting approaching, both parties are making last-ditch efforts to sway undecided voters and consolidate their bases ahead of the counting day on November 23.

Sita Soren is nominated for Jamtara, and Neera Yadav will run in Kodarma. Muniya Devi has been selected as the BJP candidate for Gandey, with Tara Devi contesting from Sindri and Apnarna Sengupta in Nirsa. Ragini Singh will represent Jharia, Geeta Balmuchu will run in Chaibasa, and Pushpa Devi Bhuiyan is the candidate for Chhatarpur.

Elections for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly are scheduled for two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting set for November 23.

On Friday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) revealed its seat-sharing agreement: the BJP will contest in 68 Assembly constituencies, the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) will field candidates in 10 seats, Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) will contest two seats, and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will compete for one seat.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the JMM-led alliance secured 47 seats—30 for the JMM and 16 for Congress. The BJP obtained 25 seats, while the JVM-P claimed 3, AJSU Party took 2, CPI-ML secured 1, NCP 1, and independents captured 2.

Currently, the assembly consists of 74 members, with the JMM-led alliance holding 44 seats. Notably, two JMM legislators, Nalin Soren and Joba Majhi, are now members of Parliament, and Jama MLA Sita Soren resigned to run in the Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket.

For many years, the Soren family has been a powerful force in Jharkhand’s politics. However, their hold on power appears to be weakening due to rising controversies and internal conflicts.

Champai Soren’s Marginalization Unveils Internal Issues

The recent sidelining of Champai Soren, a prominent figure in the Jharkhand State Formation movement, has brought to light significant issues within the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). This move has led to concerns that the Soren family might be more focused on protecting their own legacy rather than addressing the needs of the state.

Champai Soren was instrumental in the fight for Jharkhand’s statehood and worked alongside other key leaders like the late Shri Binod Bihari Mahto. Despite his crucial role, Champai was pushed aside by the party he helped establish. He briefly led Jharkhand as the head of a coalition government, working to stabilize governance and implement welfare programs. However, his leadership ended abruptly when Hemant Soren, son of Shibu Soren, returned from jail and swiftly took back control.

Criticisms of Soren Governance: “Family First, State Last”

The Soren family’s governance style has faced growing criticism for putting personal interests above the welfare of Jharkhand. When Hemant Soren returned to power, he quickly reasserted control, neglecting the alliances that had kept the party afloat during his absence. This perceived entitlement has alienated many within the JMM and among Jharkhand’s residents.

Allegations of corruption against both Shibu and Hemant Soren have further damaged the party’s image. Accusations of graft and nepotism suggest that the Sorens are more interested in maintaining their power and wealth than in genuinely serving the state.

Concentration of Power: The Soren Family’s Monopoly

The exclusion of leaders like Champai Soren highlights not just internal strife but also a broader issue within the JMM—the dominance of the Soren family. While Shibu Soren is often recognized as a leading figure in the Jharkhand movement, it’s important to remember the collective efforts of leaders such as Shri Binod Bihari Mahto, who played significant roles in Jharkhand’s formation. Over time, however, the narrative has become increasingly centered on the Sorens, turning the JMM into a family-run entity and sidelining other important leaders.

Growing Discontent Among Jharkhand’s Residents

As Jharkhand’s residents observe the ongoing power struggles within the JMM, their frustration is mounting. Long-time supporters feel betrayed and are increasingly calling for leadership that prioritizes the state’s development over personal gain. The frequent sidelining of capable leaders like Champai Soren, combined with ongoing corruption and nepotism, has led many to question the Sorens’ ability to effectively lead Jharkhand.

The Future of the Soren Family’s Legacy

The Soren family’s relentless pursuit of power is proving detrimental to both their party and the state. As Jharkhand’s citizens grow tired of political maneuvering, the key question remains: Will the Sorens eventually put the state’s interests first, or will their legacy be defined by missed opportunities and broken promises?

</excerpt>

Champai Soren, a veteran political figure in Jharkhand and widely referred to as the “Kolhan Tiger,” has resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a significant turning point in the state’s political landscape. Known for his steadfast dedication to tribal rights and his prominent role in the Jharkhand statehood movement, Soren’s departure from JMM signals growing discontent within the party and a potential shift in electoral dynamics ahead of the state elections.

On August 28, 2024, Champai Soren, a seven-term MLA from the Saraikela constituency, announced his resignation from JMM, citing frustration with the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. His resignation followed months of internal conflict and dissatisfaction within the party. Soren’s exit highlights the ongoing struggles within JMM to address concerns raised by senior leaders, raising questions about party unity as it faces increasing challenges.

The decision to part ways with JMM came after Champai Soren was unceremoniously removed from his position as Chief Minister following the arrest of Hemant Soren on money laundering charges. How Soren was sidelined, without prior notice, has drawn widespread criticism, with accusations of nepotism and undermining tribal leaders within the party.

Hemant Soren’s tenure has been marred by allegations of corruption and poor governance. His arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on money laundering charges has further fueled the growing dissatisfaction within JMM, particularly among tribal communities, who feel neglected by the current leadership.

JMM’s Shift Away from Tribal Rights

Champai Soren’s departure underscores the shift within JMM under Hemant Soren’s leadership. Once a staunch advocate for tribal rights, the party is now seen as focusing on consolidating power among a small group of loyalists, alienating many within its ranks. Soren’s exit is a direct challenge to Hemant Soren’s leadership and exposes deep divisions within the party. With upcoming elections, the JMM may face challenges in retaining its traditional tribal voter base.

BJP Gains a Strategic Advantage

Champai Soren’s move to join the BJP is seen as a major boost for the party as it seeks to expand its influence in Jharkhand. Soren’s strong reputation as a tribal leader and his extensive connections in the Kolhan and South Chota Nagpur regions make him a valuable asset for the BJP. His alliance with the BJP is expected to fragment the tribal vote, potentially giving the BJP an edge in closely contested constituencies.

Soren’s public endorsement of the BJP’s stance on key issues, particularly illegal immigration, adds another layer of significance to his defection. He has expressed concerns about Bangladeshi infiltration, aligning himself with the BJP’s longstanding position on the issue. This stance is likely to resonate with tribal voters, further strengthening the BJP’s position in the state.

JMM’s Response and Internal Challenges

The JMM’s response to Soren’s resignation has been notably subdued, with the party’s leadership appearing disconnected from its grassroots support base. Rather than addressing the concerns raised by Soren and other senior leaders, the party has continued with its insular approach, further alienating key sections of its support base.

The party’s reliance on dynastic politics and its failure to nurture new leadership has left it vulnerable to further defections. Soren’s exit may inspire other frustrated leaders to follow suit, potentially destabilizing the party in its tribal-dominated strongholds.

Impact on Jharkhand’s Political Landscape

Champai Soren’s decision to leave JMM and join the BJP is expected to significantly alter the political landscape of Jharkhand. For the BJP, this development offers a strategic advantage, strengthening its appeal among tribal communities and boosting its prospects in the upcoming state elections. For the JMM, Soren’s resignation highlights internal vulnerabilities under Hemant Soren’s leadership.

As Jharkhand heads toward the next electoral battle, the fallout from Champai Soren’s departure will likely shape voter sentiment, with the BJP poised to capitalize on the JMM’s internal discord and position itself as a viable alternative to the ruling party.

</excerpt>

Champai Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a veteran leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has raised serious concerns about the growing issue of Bangladeshi infiltration in Jharkhand. In a recent letter, Soren criticized the Hemant Soren-led state government and other political parties, accusing them of neglecting crucial issues related to tribal identity and security.

Soren expressed his belief that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, is genuinely committed to addressing these challenges. As a result, he has decided to join the BJP to protect the interests of Jharkhand’s indigenous communities.

These concerns have also been echoed by the Jharkhand High Court, particularly regarding the Santhal Pargana region, raising serious questions about the governance and administrative efficiency under Hemant Soren’s government. The lack of decisive action and an inadequate response to these pressing issues suggest potential administrative lapses and a disregard for the socio-political and security implications for the state.

High Court Raises Concerns

The Jharkhand High Court recently highlighted two critical issues during a hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Daniel Danish: the infiltration of Bangladeshis into Jharkhand and the declining tribal population in the region. The court found the affidavits submitted by Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from six districts in the Santhal Pargana region lacking in detail, leading to questions about the adequacy of the Hemant Soren government’s efforts to address these concerns.

The court expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of specific data and explanations in the affidavits concerning Bangladeshi infiltration. This lack of clarity not only reflects administrative shortcomings but also raises concerns about the state’s commitment to safeguarding its indigenous population. The failure to address the declining tribal population further deepens these concerns, suggesting possible neglect of the rights and interests of Jharkhand’s tribal communities. The High Court has demanded detailed explanations and has scheduled the next hearing for September 5, expecting comprehensive documentation on the processing of Aadhaar and Voter ID cards.

Implications of Bangladeshi Infiltration in Jharkhand

The infiltration of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh has a profound impact on the socio-economic and cultural landscape of Jharkhand. Unauthorized entry strains public resources such as healthcare, education, and employment, which are already stretched thin in the state. Under Hemant Soren’s leadership, there appears to be a lack of effective strategies to manage these strains, which could exacerbate poverty and unemployment levels, disproportionately affecting the local tribal population.

Culturally, the influx of immigrants with different religious and cultural backgrounds can create tensions and disrupt the social fabric of the state. Jharkhand, known for its rich tribal heritage, risks losing its unique cultural identity as demographic changes could shift the balance. This could lead to cultural conflicts and a sense of alienation among the indigenous population.

Political and Security Concerns

The political implications of Bangladeshi infiltration are equally concerning. An increase in the number of illegal immigrants could potentially alter voting patterns, impacting the political landscape of Jharkhand. The irregularities noted by the High Court regarding voter verification in the Santhal Pargana region, where voter growth rates in certain Muslim-dominated areas were abnormally high, raise questions about the integrity of electoral processes. Such demographic shifts could influence election outcomes, possibly leading to political instability and the marginalization of tribal communities.

From a security standpoint, illegal infiltration poses a significant threat. The presence of undocumented immigrants complicates law enforcement efforts and increases the risk of anti-national activities, including smuggling and potential infiltration by extremist elements. Given Jharkhand’s history of Naxalite insurgency, which has exploited local grievances, the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants could exacerbate security challenges. The current government under Hemant Soren has been criticized for its lack of urgency in addressing these risks, which could have dire consequences for the state’s stability and safety.

Need for Accountability and Action

To address these concerns, implementing a robust identification and verification system is imperative. The discrepancies noted in Aadhaar and Voter ID card processing must be addressed to ensure that only legal residents have access to these documents. Regular audits and verifications should be conducted, and stringent measures should be put in place to prevent the issuance of fake identification documents.

Ensuring legal and administrative accountability is also crucial. The concerns raised by the High Court regarding the lack of detailed information in affidavits submitted by district officials highlight the need for greater transparency and responsibility. The lack of accountability under Hemant Soren’s leadership only deepens mistrust in the government’s ability to manage the state’s pressing issues.

Conclusion

The issue of Bangladeshi infiltration in Jharkhand is a complex challenge that requires a comprehensive approach. The concerns raised by the Jharkhand High Court, along with the warnings voiced by Champai Soren, underscore the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for decisive action.

In a significant political shift for Jharkhand, Champai Soren, a senior leader of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and a former chief minister, is preparing to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to sources familiar with the matter.

Champai met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday night in New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is co-incharge of the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, was also present at the meeting. These elections are scheduled to take place in November-December.

Official Announcement by Assam CM Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam CM Sarma announced that Champai Soren would officially join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi. Sarma confirmed this in a social media post, stating, “Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, @ChampaiSoren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji a short while ago. He will officially join the @BJP4India on 30th August in Ranchi.”

Hints of Political Shift

Sarma had previously hinted at the political switch, revealing to reporters in Ranchi that he had been in contact with Champai for months, though not for political reasons at first. He added, “I want Champai Soren to join BJP. Now that he is in Delhi… let’s see… I feel now the time has come for having some political talks with him.”

Despite Champai’s decision to switch allegiances, he remains a minister in Hemant Soren’s cabinet and has yet to formally resign from both the JMM and his position in the government.

Champai’s Discontent with JMM Leadership

Champai Soren, who served as Jharkhand’s chief minister for a brief five months in 2005, recently voiced his dissatisfaction with his party. On August 20, he expressed his disappointment on social media, revealing that he felt sidelined by the JMM leadership. He claimed that he was removed from his chief ministerial position without prior notice, and many of his planned events were canceled without informing him.

After returning to Seraikela from Delhi on August 23, Champai began touring the assembly constituencies of Kharsawan, Chaibasa, and Seraikela in the Kolhan division, a region where he has a strong influence.

Champai Soren, a six-time MLA, has represented the Seraikela constituency since 1991, initially winning as an Independent in 1995. His shift to the BJP is expected to have considerable implications in the upcoming assembly elections, particularly in the Kolhan division.

</excerpt>

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and former Chief Minister Champai Soren has pledged to work towards uplifting the tribal and poor communities in Jharkhand. Speaking at a gathering in Seraikela Kharsawan, Soren vowed to bring significant changes to the state, aiming to boost prosperity and enhance the status of its people on the national stage.

“In the coming days, I will work for the tribal and poor people in such a way that I will give a new identity to Jharkhand in the country. I will work for the prosperity and respect of the people of Jharkhand,” Soren asserted, emphasizing his dedication to the state’s development.

Recently, Soren hinted at starting a new political party but clarified on Friday that he bears no grudge against his former organization. He revealed that the decision to form a new party came after thousands of workers from across Jharkhand reached out to him, expressing interest in joining forces. He also mentioned that if a suitable ally is found before the upcoming elections, a partnership would be considered.

“We have started our journey alone; we have no ill will towards the organization. New chapters will be added to it, and we will move our political steps forward with strength. Thousands of workers from different areas of the state contacted me and expressed their desire to work together. That is why we have decided to form an organization. If we find a good ally before the elections, we will also form a friendship with that ally,” Soren stated.

On Thursday, Soren had announced plans to form a new organization and actively participate in Jharkhand’s political arena once again. He expressed optimism about the public’s response to his recent tours of various districts, including Seraikela and Chaibasa. During the second day of his tour, Soren stated that everything was progressing well and that the public was joining his movement.

“Today, I visited three districts, including Seraikela and Chaibasa. It was the second day of the tour of my new chapter. Everything is going well, the public is joining us. I will actively enter Jharkhand politics again. I will form an organization and try to make friends in the way before the Assembly elections…I will reveal everything within a week. When I have started a new chapter, I can only stay in one place. I will reveal everything after a week,” he said.

As Jharkhand gears up for its Assembly elections in 2024, Champai Soren’s return to active politics could significantly impact the political landscape. His plans to form a new organization and possibly align with an ally are being closely watched, with potential implications for the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, the BJP has fully prepared to challenge the current government as the political climate in the state intensifies.

</excerpt>

Amidst speculation that former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren might leave the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi on Monday commented that Soren’s anguish is evident in his recent post.

“The way he wrote the post, his pain is visible. He’s deeply hurt by how he was removed from the Chief Minister’s position, and now that pain has come to the surface,” said Marandi.

Marandi was referring to Champai Soren’s post on X, where Soren expressed feeling “insulted” during his tenure.

Speaking to ANI, Marandi further asserted that no other leader from JMM has emerged prominently since Hemant Soren took power. “Since Hemant Soren became Chief Minister in 2020, no other JMM leader has been able to step into the spotlight. There are many leaders like Champai Soren in JMM, but only Hemant Soren gets attention. Naturally, Champai Soren is anguished, and now it’s all coming out,” Marandi said.

When asked about the possibility of Champai Soren joining the BJP, Marandi declined to provide a direct answer. “I can’t say. He mentioned that he went to Delhi to meet his family, and when someone is in pain, they often seek comfort from their family,” Marandi remarked.

On Sunday, Champai Soren shared a post on X, recounting instances where he was not permitted to call a meeting of the legislative party and was abruptly asked to resign, leading him to “seek an alternative path.”

“Even though a Chief Minister has the right to call a meeting of the legislative party, I wasn’t even informed of the agenda. During the meeting, I was asked to resign. I was surprised, but I had no desire for power, so I immediately resigned. My heart was heavy with the blow to my self-respect. I was so emotional due to the constant insults over the past three days that I struggled to hold back tears, while others were only focused on the chair. It felt as if I had no existence in the party to which I had dedicated my entire life. Many other insulting incidents occurred, which I prefer not to discuss right now. After enduring so much humiliation, I was compelled to search for an alternative path,” Soren wrote in his post on X.

But Champai Soren gave his resignation from the post. Thus, clearing the path for Hemant Soren to reassume the role.

Meanwhile, JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) executive president Hemant Soren was detained by ED (Enforcement Directorate) on the grounds of alleged land scam and money laundering.

Before his arrest, soren tendered his resignation as Chief Minister. After his detention, Soren family close aide Champai Soren became chief minister and stayed in his post for 5 months.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 and remains in custody until April 1.

Speaking on the INDIA bloc’s rally, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “There are 4-5 issues over which this rally has been organised. There is Kejriwal…we should also not forget Hemant Soren and several other people who have been targeted.”

“Tomorrow’s rally will not be a one-party rally but to save the democracy of the country. Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren will be present at the rally tomorrow,” he told ANI.

Criticising the INDIA bloc’s ‘Maha Rally’, Uttar Pradesh BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary said, “These people are not unanimous on an ideological level and there are a lot of internal conflicts among them. Seat adjustment is still pending in many states. Congress is still unable to decide who will contest from Amethi and Raebareli. I am sure there are no possibilities for Congress in Uttar Pradesh…”

In the meantime, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Gopal Rai and Dilip Pandey inspected arrangements for the ‘maha rally’ organized by the INDIA bloc to denounce the detention of Kejriwal.

Speaking on the preparations for NDIA bloc’s ‘Maha Rally’ on March 31, AAP Minister Gopal Rai said, “Leaders of INDIA Alliance will come from all over India to attend the ‘Maha Rally’ at the Ramlila Maidan tomorrow at 10 am. </excerpt>

A day after winning the floor test, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren arrived to Ranchi’s State Assembly for the final day of the special session.
“What is there to say?” “What can I say about those who have no issue (to raise)?” the Chief Minister said to reporters as he approached the Assembly.
Chief Minister Champai Soren won the Trust Vote on Monday with a 47:29 margin.
In the 81-member assembly, the midway point for a majority is 41. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, with 29 seats, and its ally Congress, with 17, were optimistic of comfortably passing the trust vote.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement in connection with the alleged land scam, was also present in the Assembly for the floor test. On February 2, the court remanded Soren to ED custody for five days.
A special court in Ranchi granted Soren permission to vote in the Trust Vote. Participating in the debate, Hemant Soren stated that his arrest is just one example of the various forms of persecution that tribals and Dalits experience in society.

The Chief Minister launched the debate on the trust resolution in the 81-member Assembly, claiming that the Centre is exploiting the agencies.
“The central government’s leader abused agencies. In 2019, Hemant received the mandate. “Such a Chief Minister is arrested in a land scam case,” the Chief Minister stated, defending his predecessor.
He stated that throughout Jharkhand’s history, anytime tribals try to expand their ability, attempts are made to restrict their leadership.

“Today the whole country is seeing how injustice is being done to Hemant Soren. If you go to any village, you will find Hemant Soren’s schemes in every house,” he added.

</excerpt>

Champai Soren, a seasoned leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in today as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The 67-year-old assumed office more than 24 hours after his predecessor, Hemant Soren, was arrested in connection with an alleged money laundering case. Governor CP Radhakrishnan’s decision to invite Champai Soren for the oath came after the latter’s plea during a meeting earlier in the day.

In a letter to the Governor, Champai Soren highlighted the absence of a government for 18 hours, expressing concern about the confusion. He urged the constitutional head to take prompt steps for the formation of a popular government.

The delay in the Governor’s decision, coupled with a narrow majority, led to concerns within the ruling alliance about possible defections to the opposition BJP through an “Operation Lotus.” However, inclement weather prevented the MLAs from traveling to Telangana, and they were subsequently accommodated in a government guest house.

Following these developments, Champai Soren received a call from the Governor, prompting the swearing-in ceremony. The ruling alliance, comprising JMM, Congress, and RJD, has 47 MLAs in the 81-member house, with 43 currently supporting Champai Soren. The BJP holds 25 seats, AJSU has three, and the remaining seats are divided among NCP, a Left party (one each), and three independent MLAs.
