Netizens admired his impressive driving and the unwavering trust of his friend riding beside him, calling them the “Dadaiji version of Fast & Furious.”
</excerpt>

A clip of an old man drifting a sports car with ease is melting hearts on the internet and providing serious “Tokyo Drift” feels. The scene, which was a nod to the iconic song from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, went viral after it was shared on Instagram and not only because of the driving.

What really left internet users stunned was the driver’s identity: a grandpa! The old man’s smooth operation of the car immediately made him go viral, with users respecting his skill and attitude.

The clip, originally posted by Instagram account holder ‘Kishan Singh Chahal’, was captioned “Kesi lagi drift?” and has received more than 9,000 likes in four days. The viral entry did not confirm the location and the date of the shoot, and Times Now was unable to check its authenticity. Nevertheless, the clip continues to go viral on social networking sites.

As one of the commenters quipped jokingly, “Dadu’s friend has 101% trust in dadu.”

Social media responses poured in with people labeling the duo the coolest on the net. “The Dadaiji version of Fast & Furious,” one of them commented. “Dada ji displaying how they are slaying in their adulthood,” added another. Another person commented, “Now this is what I call aura ++++. The man, in his advanced age, executed an amazing drift so effortlessly. And to top it off, his friend sitting relaxed next to him was even more astounding.”

“Grandpa is like, if I share with you about my youth, today’s boys will begin following me and my lifestyle,” posted another user. Another netizen echoed the same with, “This is just amazing. I love how the man also had trust in his grandpa.”

The sweet mix of talent, swagger, and friendship has obviously touched a lot of people on the web, as users continue to congratulate the grandpa’s rugged personality and car culture.

The woman driver fled the scene, and police have registered a case following a complaint by the child’s father.
</excerpt>

A five-year-old boy was badly injured when he was run over by a car inside the SG Grand Society in Rajendra Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad, at around 4:30 PM on February 24. The woman who was driving stopped for a second and fled the spot thereafter. The shocking footage from the CCTV has created an outrage among the residents.

Woman Escapes

The CCTV recordings show that a white Honda City entered the society premises and ran into the child who was playing with other children. The front wheel of the car ran over his body, causing him to suffer a fractured right thigh bone, and several cuts to his right hand, left leg, and back.

Despite his critical condition, the child has fortunately stopped short of dying. A woman, identified as Sandhya, stopped the vehicle, got out, and assessed the child, but after a minute, fled the scene.

Investigation by Police

Following the grievous incident, the victim’s father complained to the Nandgram police station. Authorities have filed charges against Sandhya under Sections 281 and 125B of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

The police then started an active investigation to bring the responsible party to justice for the suffering child. The child is receiving medical treatment at Atlanta Hospital in Vasundhara. As for his medical report, his condition is stable but serious.

The incident has drawn wide condemnation from residents of SG Grand Society, who are calling for strict legal action against the negligent driver. The residents also called upon the authorities to impose stringent traffic rules in their residential areas to prevent such reckless driving in the future.

Long exposure to heat can disrupt the endocrine system and increase cancer risks. To stay safe, avoid leaving bottled water in vehicles, use BPA-free bottles, and store water in cool, shaded areas.
</excerpt>

Studies say that hydrogen compounds leach from the plastic and into bottled water when one leaves it inside the vehicle over 24 hours. Research outlines many general risks to health, from hormonal disruption to increased risks for cancers.

Water is essential for life and health, and bottled water is a reasonable response to hydrating on the go. Very often, bottled water can be dangerous when left in a car for long periods due to soaring temperatures and the leaching of toxins from the plastic.

How High Heat Impact on Bottled Water

High temperatures also may allow certain chemicals, such as bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, to leach into bottled water. The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) research noted that bottled water stored at 158° F (70° C ) for four weeks had increased levels of these chemicals,

The University of Texas at Tyler conducted a separate study suggesting that bottled water poses minimal risk when left in a hot car for a day or two. Pet bottled water kept for days to weeks in areas of high temperatures may pose a far larger risk of chemical contamination.

Health Risks Associated

Certain chemicals can leach out of plastic bottles and interfere with normal regulation of the endocrine system. Long-term effects may, thus, include gastrointestinal symptoms, respiratory hazards, developmental problems, and an increased risk for cancer.

What Should Be Done

For safe drinking water:

Discard water that has been in your vehicle in high heat for more than 24 hours.

Use only BPA-free or stainless-steel bottles to lessen chemical exposure.

Do not store bottled water in the vehicle for extended periods.

Drink fresh water by refilling bottles regularly.

While bottled water offers convenience, the wrong storage conditions.

Keep bottled water in cool areas out of direct sunlight.

The event, that occurred some time back, involves a lady who gets locked inside an American self-driving service Waymo. The event has brought in considerable discussion about the safety of women, calling it a debate of “Man vs bear”.

In the video, two men stand before the car and keep gesturing into the car asking for her number, despite her pleading that says “No, move,” but they continue to block the road, stopping the movement of the vehicle. Eventually, they left when she screamed at them to move away. She was in the front passenger seat at the time of the terrifying incident.

Waymo spokesperson Julia Ilina commented on the incident, saying, “In a situation like this, our riders have 24/7 access to Rider Support agents who will help them navigate the situation in real time and coordinate closely with law enforcement officers to provide further assistance as needed.”

The video has gone viral on social media, with users expressing anger at the men’s behavior. One person commented, “There should be an automatic safety feature that immediately sends the dash cam video to the nearest police station and reports it as an attempted kidnapping in progress. Guys would never try it again.” Another wrote, “They saw she was trapped and went for it.”.
You yell at a bear and it goes away,” said a user referring to the viral social trend. Another commented, “Ya see, a bear wouldn’t do that,” drawing an analogy to the “Man vs bear” trend that went viral months ago. The latter was about asking women which they would feel safer encountering in the wild: a man or a bear, with the widespread fear over the safety of women ironically reflected by most participants choosing the bear over the man.

</excerpt>

Recently, an old Chevrolet newspaper advertisement went viral and was widely shared among the internet users, bringing forth the nostalgia. The advertisement focuses on a 5-seater Chevrolet at Rs. 3,600, a sharp contrast to the cost of the vehicle in current times. Another model costs Rs. 2,700, is durable, and apt for roads with much roughness and unavailability of tarmac. The advertisement gives a view of a time when the price factor was the hallmark of Chevrolet, reflecting the easy time in the history of automotive vehicles.

Some ads specify availability in Lucknow, while others mention delivery options to cities like Calcutta, Delhi, and Dibrugarh. On the other hand, even the cheapest 5-seater cars in the market today cost several lakhs, thereby emphasizing how money’s value has changed dramatically over time.

The resurfaced advertisement has gone viral in the social media world, and it has gathered diversified reactions. One commented quipping, “I am rich but in a different century,” while another simply shared, “Great days, I still miss those days.”

A user highlighted a deeper look into inflation by saying, “In the year 1936, the value of Rs. 3,675 is now, in 2024, Rs. 3,67,50,000.” A user humorously commented, “I am rich, but my treasures belong to a bygone century.” Adding to this, one user aptly observed, “Must be very costly at that time.”

This viral piece of history has not only rekindled discussions about inflation and the value of money but also shed light on Chevrolet’s legacy in India. Once a significant player in the Indian automotive market, Chevrolet stopped its operations in the country in 2017, bringing to a close a long chapter of its presence.

Over 800 people stranded in 490 vehicles in Lahaul have been rescued by authorities since Sunday evening. Snow and slippery conditions also halted traffic in upper Shimla.

Bhishan Garg, 49, a tourist from New Delhi, was killed in Lahaul-Spiti district when his car skidded on an icy road. He was trying to overtake the other vehicles, which were unable to move in the jammed traffic. His car skidded out of control and hit a parked tipper. The other three passengers suffered injuries.

In answer to the hazardous weather, authorities have called on drivers to put snow chains in place, drive at low speeds, and avoid overtaking on slippery roads.

</excerpt>

A Utah car dealership was the target of an angry customer, Michael Murray, who deliberately drove his recently purchased Subaru Outback into the showroom after he realized that there were problems with the vehicle. Murray, 35, had bought the car from Tim Dahle Mazda Southtowne but immediately upon leaving, he noticed mechanical issues and described the vehicle as a “lemon.”

Angry and demanding a full refund of the $4,000 he paid, Murray went back to the dealership only to be turned down. The manager at the dealership told him that the car was sold in an “as-is” condition, so no return or refund could be made. “We even make the document hot pink so they truly understand this is a vehicle that is, ‘as is.’ It hasn’t been inspected.”. But if it fits your budget we will let you take it,” Tyler Slade, the platform manager told the media.

Watch:

NEW: Utah man drives his car through the front of a Mazda dealership just hours after purchasing the car from the same dealership.

The incident happened in Sandy, Utah, after the man was told he couldn’t return the car.

The man told the dealership that he would drive the car… pic.twitter.com/nNASSjOw0y

— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) December 10, 2024

Frustrated by the rejection, Murray threatened to drive through the front door of the dealership if his demand was not met. About 4 pm, he did this. He crashed the Subaru into the glass entrance, and shards of glass flew off everywhere. In a video obtained from inside the dealership, Murray is seen exiting the vehicle. “I told you,” Murray shouts.

Luckily, no one was hurt as a result of the collision, although the dealership claims around $10,000 damages. Seven employees were inside near the door when Murray crashed. Murray was charged with felony criminal mischief and reckless endangerment after arrest. An employee of the car lot commented, “What would’ve happened? Who knows-it could’ve been fatal. He came back, but with rage. without thinking, he just acted out in rage.”

Police Investigation Uncovers Racket

Upon approaching the car, police were taken aback to discover six men engaged in an obscene act with a woman. Initial investigations revealed that the woman was reportedly being paid between ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 per day as part of the illicit operation. The woman, identified as Nisha, was found with the group, and all parties involved were swiftly taken into custody.

</excerpt>

A video recently shared on social media by journalist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj has ignited widespread outrage after showing a driver recklessly speeding at 140 km/h on a busy road, hitting a biker, and then nonchalantly dismissing the incident. The video was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), and the driver has been identified as Rajat Dalal, described by Bhardwaj as a “habitual offender.”

Reckless Driving and Shocking Indifference

The video, recorded by a passenger seated in the back, captures the unsettling moment when Dalal hits a biker while speeding on what many social media users have identified as Mathura Road in Faridabad. Despite the pleas from his passengers urging him to slow down, Dalal continues to drive dangerously. After hitting the biker, he dismisses the incident by saying, “Gir gaya, koi baat nahi. Roz ka yahi kaam hai ma’am” (He fell down, no big deal. This is an everyday thing, ma’am), while assuring a clearly distressed woman beside him, “Aap befikar raho” (Don’t worry).

Public Outrage and Police Response

The video has sparked intense reactions from the public, with many users on X demanding severe punishment for Dalal. One user commented, “Anything less than a lifetime license ban will not be sufficient punishment for his crime!” Another questioned why the police had not yet arrested him, while a third expressed frustration over the apparent lack of action despite Dalal’s repeated offenses caught on camera.

Faridabad police have responded to the post, asking Bhardwaj to share her contact details via Direct Message for further investigation. However, the public continues to press for immediate and strict action against Dalal, emphasizing that his reckless behavior poses a significant threat to society.

Calls for Strict Punishment

The video has also sparked discussions about the need for stronger traffic law enforcement in India. Several users called for the permanent cancellation of Dalal’s driving license and suggested that he should face jail time for his actions. One user stated, “No person is above the law! The family of the victim might take the law into their own hands if the police don’t do anything.”

As the video continues to gain traction online, it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless drivers and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to protect public safety.

</excerpt>

The Perfect Sedan Does Not Exi… Wait! There’s the Skoda Slavia 1.5!

Let’s face it—the first car almost all of us drew as toddlers was a three-box sedan. Even today, I think, kids are doodling the same shape when they aren’t immersed into their parents’ mobile phones. In fact, if you ask even grown-up car enthusiasts about the quintessential shape of a car, most of them would point towards their favourite three-box sedan. It’s a pity, then, that sedans are losing ground (all puns intended) to everything from raised hatchbacks to crossovers masquerading as SUVs, and there are three main reasons for it.

The first is ground clearance, which we Indians think we can’t do without. We don’t believe in improving our driving and civic sense; we just expect our cars to drive over everything in sight, and sedans have been considered notoriously incapable of such antics.
The second is space. We might not have any sense of personal space (that’s why, despite COVID, we still haven’t learnt to keep distance in queues of all kinds), but we expect our cars to accommodate everyone including our neighbours, and their dogs, even if we hate them (the neighbours, not the dogs; you can’t hate dogs). Here too, the sedans have been scoffed at for providing just as much cabin space as a hatchback…

The third is performance. The minority that actually loves driving sedans is forced to move towards other shapes because most manufacturers have just not been providing them with powerful and dynamically sorted sedans that would put a smile on their face.
Then, does the Skoda Slavia 1.5 have what it takes to change all of the above? I drove the DSG equipped specimen (they have a manual too, and I can’t wait to drive it) for over 700 km to find out…

Design and Colours
Last year, I saw a grey-ish coloured Slavia in Gurgaon and I had instantly fallen in love with it . I couldn’t ascertain in those few seconds (it passed by on the opposite side) whether it was a custom-wrap or the factory Carbon Steel colour but it looked drop-dead gorgeous. However, I do clearly remember that it didn’t have the stock alloy wheels…
My test car came in a shade of blue that Skoda refers to as Lava Blue. There’s a Crystal Blue as well, which I think is what most buyers are running after as it’s way brighter than the blue you see here in the pictures. Then there’s Tornado Red, Candy White, Brilliant Silver, Deep Black, and the aforementioned Carbon Steel as well.
Irrespective of the colour, the fact is that it’s a handsome car. The proportions are just right and there are no unnecessary slashes, cuts, creases, lines, etc., used to create a dramatic effect. It’s a simple and elegant design which would look good even decades down the line. The first Octavia still looks good, doesn’t it?
However, I was still not expecting the Slavia to turn a single head because it has been around for almost three years now. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised to see it turning way too many heads everytime I took it out. In fact, I had to check the IRVM to see if there was something wrong with my face. There wasn’t. Therefore, if, like me, you don’t like being want the center of attention, get a White Slavia. But, if you’re an attention seeker, that Crystal Blue or Tornado Red will be even more gratifying than the Lava Blue.

Interiors
The interiors are again an understated classy affair. I love them. You’d love the cabin too as it does feel properly premium, but without shouting “hey, I just got rich yesterday!” Also, no one would have any complaints whatsoever with the quality of materials used or with the fit and finish.
Ergonomically too, it’s a brilliant cabin as none of the controls—stalks, switches, buttons, knobs, dials—are hidden like they are in a few cars. However, it’s not all good. Skoda really needs to do away with touch controls for the air-conditioning, and use proper tangible dials instead. Secondly, not providing a 360-degree camera is a glaring omission at this price. Guess what, I am totally okay with adjusting the seats manually. I had tested the BMW Z4 in 2015 and even that came with manual adjustment for the seats. And, forget a surround camera, it didn’t even have a camera of any kind. So I don’t understand why all journalists and influencers cry so much about the lack of powered seats in the Slavia. But, we surely do need a 360-degree camera, Skoda, and that’s coming from someone who has been driving for almost three decades now…
The seats all around are comfortable and there’s a fantastic amount of legroom and kneeroom at the rear. The cherry on top is that the Slavia has one of the largest boots in the segment too. So, yes, your in-laws would be happy with not only the rear seat space, but with the boot space too as it will accommodate all their luggage easily, provided, of course, you’re as accomodating a son-in-law as well.
That said, it would do well for Skoda to start working on providing more powerful air-conditioning systems in Slavia and Kushaq. It’s not that the AC is ineffective right now; it’s just that in the terrible Delhi heat, you end up running it at full blast most of the time, which is not something you expect from a “premium” car. Also, the circular vents at the corners of the dashboard remained underwhelming irrespective of the air-flow setting I chose. Thankfully, the front ventilated seats do come to your rescue.

Performance
This is where you’ll pat yourself on the back for choosing this car. The performance is outstanding. And I am not talking only about the engine, but the handling too. But, first, the customary 0–100 km/h figures: my best time on GPS was 10.0 seconds, which translated to 9.5 seconds on the speedo. Yes, the speedo error is minimal. I reckon the manual to shave at least half a second off because it won’t suffer from the initial hesitation that’s typical of dual clutch transmissions. That said, in traffic-light sprints, you won’t experience that lag because you won’t have your foot on the brake while you floor the throttle. You would leave the brake, and immediately step on the gas…
Overtaking is also a quick affair, even in the normal Drive mode. But if you really want the quickest response, just push the gear lever once back to select the Sport mode and then push it towards yourself to slot it in manual. Unparalleled happiness is guaranteed. You won’t need paddle shifters, but they are there in case you want total control in the ghats…
The handling is sublime too. The steering is perhaps the most direct in the segment, but I wish it weighed up more at speeds over 80 km/h. The sure-footed chassis behaviour more than makes up for it, which ensures that high speed lane changes are a precise affair, and at no point the car feels nervous. What surprised me the most was the tyre grip. Even under extreme cornering the tyres just refused to leave grip! Of course, the ELD (Electronic Differential Lock, which is the same as BLD or Brake Lock Differential in 4x4s, and not an actual mechanical LSD) helps, but I could still feel that the tyre grip itself is second to none in the segment. The braking is phenomenal too, which in turn adds to your confidence.
The only minor complaint that I have is around the abruptness of the DSG while reversing on an undulating incline. Skoda R&D may want to look into the ECM LOGIC and reprogramme it to offer a smoother clutch engagement and fuelling in such scenarios.

Ride Quality and Ground Clearance
The Slavia’s ride quality is certainly not the best in segment, but, honestly, that’s something you’d be happily willing to compromise for the aforementioned sublime handling. In fact, I would even encourage you to upgrade to 17-inch wheels after, say, a year, to further reap the rewards of this car’s dynamic ability.
I must add here that the ride quality isn’t bad by any stretch of imagination. It’s just that if ride quality is your topmost priority, then this isn’t the car for you. This is a proper driver’s car, period.
The ground clearance is also something that will keep you happy. With this car, you can take the worst speed-breakers head on without damaging the car. This is again where the firm suspension helps as well, both in compression and rebound strokes.

Fuel Efficiency
Owning the Skoda Slavia 1.5 would be akin to having your cake and eating it too. How does over 20 km/l sound? Of course, that’s with a feather light right foot, but it’s very much possible. Drive like a devil and it will drop down to single digits, but you won’t be driving like that all the time, right? However, you can certainly choose to drive peacefully amidst traffic. Do that five days a week, and you’ll be able to extract over 700 km from one full tank of petrol. Do you still need a hybrid?
Drive it like a maniac on Sundays, and the range will drop down to 500 km. That’s still good for a car with a 45 L fuel tank. So, yes, you still won’t miss a hybrid. Also, unlike the hybrids, this would give you way more on the expressways, if you’re a law abiding citizen…

NVH Levels, Music System, and Headlights
I’ll take this opportunity to expand what NVH means. It stands for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness, and is a crucial parameter for any car that has the word “premium” attached to it. I am happy to report that the Slavia aces this one as well. At cruising speeds, the cabin can get eerily quiet, which, if you’re driving alone, might compel you to think about your ex. Therefore, you should either refrain from driving alone, or you must listen to some “happy music” because the Slavia’s music system is amongst the best in segment. Or, you may turn the music off, and increase the pace, focussing totally on driving, as, like I had mentioned above, this car has the performance and handling to elevate your mood in a jiffy. And, if you’re driving for happiness at night, the headlights, in true Skoda fashion, are bright enough to have you covered there as well.

Verdict
You may have noticed that I didn’t talk about its 5-star safety rating and other active and passive safety features, because you know all that already. Yes, it’s perhaps the safest car in the segment. But, that’s not the reason I’ll recommend this car to you. You don’t need me for that. You can read that yourself in a brochure. The only reason I’ll urge you to buy this car is for the sheer unbridled driving pleasure it offers, especially at a time when the soulless washing machines on wheels, also known as electric cars, are threatening to take over. Buy a real car while you still can. You will thank me later. And that’s not something you’ll read in a brochure.
