</excerpt>

Grammy-nominated singer Jessie J has shared her battle with early-stage breast cancer. At 37, she plans surgery after performing at the Summertime Ball, while many experts in response highlight the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

The British Grammy nominated singer Jessie J is known for her hits like “Price Tag,” and she has recently disclosed that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer at the age of 37, She has spoken candidly about her diagnosis to her 14 million followers. She said “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding onto the word ‘early.” She plans on undergoing surgery after her performance at London’s Summertime Ball on June 15.

Breast cancer advances through five stages and starts from Stage 0 and goes to Stage 4. Jessie, although, has not shared the exact details of her diagnosis; the medical experts confirm that this type of early-stage breast cancer is highly treatable.

Breast cancer can affect women in their teens and twenties, but it most likely strikes people over the age of 50. If it is detected before the age of 45, then it can sometimes be more aggressive.
Early-Onset Breast Cancer: Symptoms, Genetics, and Risk Factors

Breast or armpit lumps, breast pain, skin changes such as redness or dimpling, nipple inversion or discharge, enlarged lymph nodes, and thickening of the breast tissue are all indicators of early breast cancer.

Genetics plays a major role in early risk of breast cancer. Around 50% of such cases are linked to mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes which normally regulate cell growth but in some cases can mutate into cancer. Other gene mutations such as TP53, PTEN, and PALB2 are also associated with increased risk of cancer.

Family history also plays an important factor especially if there are cases of breast cancer before 50 or history of any kinds of cancer like male breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or related cancers like pancreatic or metastatic prostate cancer in the family.

Jessie J’s honesty is important in spreading awareness of early detection and treatments that make early-stage breast cancer survivable.

Breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in women, is a disease that impacts millions globally. Early detection and timely intervention are key to improving survival rates and ensuring better outcomes. One of the crucial yet often overlooked aspects of breast cancer awareness involves understanding the hormonal signals that may indicate its presence or progression. Additionally, adopting specific lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk and save lives.

This article explores the hormonal signals that women should be aware of and discusses actionable lifestyle adjustments to lower the risk of breast cancer and enhance overall well-being.

Understanding Breast Cancer and Hormonal Links

Breast cancer is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the breast tissue. While genetic mutations (e.g., BRCA1 and BRCA2) play a role in some cases, hormones like estrogen and progesterone significantly influence the development and progression of certain types of breast cancer.

Hormonal Influence on Breast Cancer

Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate various functions in the body, including cell growth and reproduction. In hormone receptor-positive breast cancer (HR-positive), cancer cells rely on hormones such as estrogen and progesterone to grow and multiply.

Two main types of HR-positive breast cancer are:

Estrogen Receptor-Positive (ER-Positive): Cancer cells grow in response to estrogen.

Progesterone Receptor-Positive (PR-Positive): Cancer cells grow in response to progesterone.

Hormonal imbalance, whether due to genetics, lifestyle, or environmental factors, can increase the risk of breast cancer. Recognizing these hormonal signals early can lead to timely diagnosis and intervention.

Hormonal Signals to Watch For

Hormonal imbalances can manifest in various ways. While not every hormonal change signifies breast cancer, the following signals warrant attention and medical evaluation:

1. Unusual Breast Changes

Lumps or Thickening: Hormone-sensitive breast cancer often starts as a small, painless lump or thickened area in the breast tissue.

Shape or Size Changes: Sudden changes in breast size or shape, unrelated to menstruation or pregnancy, may indicate underlying issues.

2. Nipple Discharge or Inversion

Discharge that is not breast milk, especially if it is bloody or occurs without squeezing, could be a sign of hormonal changes linked to cancer.

Nipple inversion or retraction, where the nipple pulls inward, may also be a red flag.

3. Skin Changes on the Breast

Redness or Rash: Persistent redness, rash, or irritation on the breast skin could be related to inflammatory breast cancer.

Dimpling or Peau d’Orange: Skin that appears dimpled or textured like an orange peel is another potential warning sign.

4. Hormonal Symptoms Around Menstrual Cycles

Severe breast pain or swelling before menstruation, beyond normal premenstrual syndrome (PMS), could indicate hormone-driven abnormalities.

5. Persistent Fatigue

Chronic fatigue, unrelated to lifestyle factors or other conditions, may be linked to hormonal shifts associated with cancer.

6. Unexplained Weight Changes

Sudden weight gain or loss, especially in the absence of lifestyle or dietary changes, might result from hormonal imbalances.

Lifestyle Changes to Lower Breast Cancer Risk

Lifestyle factors play a critical role in both preventing breast cancer and improving outcomes for those diagnosed. Here are some science-backed strategies to reduce the risk:

1. Maintain a Healthy Weight

Excess body fat increases estrogen levels, particularly after menopause, which can fuel hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer.

Tip: Aim for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains while avoiding excessive calorie intake.

2. Exercise Regularly

Physical activity helps regulate hormones, reduce inflammation, and maintain a healthy weight.

Recommendation: Engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise weekly.

3. Limit Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol raises estrogen levels and increases the risk of breast cancer.

Guideline: Limit alcohol to no more than one drink per day, or eliminate it entirely for optimal risk reduction.

4. Avoid Smoking

Smoking introduces harmful toxins into the body that can contribute to hormonal imbalances and increase cancer risk.

5. Breastfeed, If Possible

Breastfeeding has been shown to lower the risk of breast cancer, particularly for hormone-receptor-positive subtypes.

Breastfeeding helps regulate hormone levels and reduce lifetime exposure to estrogen.

6. Minimize Hormone Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), particularly combined estrogen-progesterone therapy, has been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer.

Advice: Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration, and consult a healthcare provider about alternative treatments.

7. Eat a Nutrient-Rich Diet

Certain foods can help balance hormones and reduce cancer risk:

Cruciferous Vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, and kale contain compounds that support hormone detoxification.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts, omega-3s help reduce inflammation.

Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Berries, green tea, and nuts combat oxidative stress that can damage cells.

8. Manage Stress

Chronic stress can disrupt hormone levels and weaken the immune system.

Stress-Relief Practices: Incorporate yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises into your daily routine.

9. Sleep Well

Sleep is essential for hormone regulation. Poor sleep can increase cortisol (the stress hormone) and affect estrogen levels.

Goal: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.

10. Avoid Environmental Toxins

Some chemicals found in plastics, cosmetics, and household products act as endocrine disruptors, mimicking estrogen and altering hormonal balance.

Tip: Opt for natural or organic products and avoid prolonged exposure to pesticides and pollutants.

The Importance of Regular Screenings

While lifestyle changes are crucial, regular screenings and early detection remain the cornerstone of breast cancer prevention.

Self-Examinations

Perform monthly breast self-exams to check for lumps or other changes. The best time to perform a self-exam is a few days after menstruation ends.

Clinical Breast Exams and Mammograms

Women over 40 should undergo annual mammograms, while younger women with a family history of breast cancer should consult their doctor about earlier screenings.

Advanced screening methods, such as MRI or ultrasound, may be recommended for high-risk individuals.

Empowering Women Through Awareness

Awareness campaigns play a vital role in educating women about hormonal signals, risk factors, and prevention strategies. Community-driven initiatives and social media platforms have made information more accessible, but there is still a need for targeted outreach, especially in rural areas where healthcare access is limited.

Role of Healthcare Providers

Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals should actively educate women about the link between hormones and breast cancer. Personalized risk assessments and counseling can motivate individuals to adopt preventive measures.

Technology and Early Detection

Innovations such as wearable health devices and AI-powered diagnostic tools can aid in the early detection of hormonal changes or abnormalities.

Breast cancer is a formidable adversary, but it is not insurmountable. By understanding the hormonal signals that may indicate its presence and embracing lifestyle changes, women can significantly reduce their risk and improve their overall health.

Proactive measures, from regular screenings to healthy living, can empower women to take control of their well-being. As awareness grows and healthcare systems evolve, the fight against breast cancer becomes stronger, offering hope for a healthier, cancer-free future.

By staying vigilant and prioritizing prevention, we can collectively work towards saving lives and improving the quality of life for women worldwide.

</excerpt>

Michelangelo Buonarroti’s renowned Sistine Chapel artwork depicting scenes from Genesis has long captivated art enthusiasts and historians. Recently, it has sparked a unique medical study, as researchers have identified a depiction of advanced breast cancer in one of the figures. This discovery, revealed through a detailed analysis of the painting, suggests that the artist intentionally portrayed the disease, raising questions about his awareness of its existence in the 16th century.

The Depiction of Breast Cancer in the Painting

In the section of the painting showing the biblical flood, a semi-naked woman is included among the crowd of figures, seemingly on the verge of death. Art historians and medical experts believe her left breast, which appears aged and shaped by motherhood, shows signs of breast cancer. The shading around the areola, the retracted skin, and the subtle swellings near the armpit are consistent with the characteristics of breast cancer. This figure, wearing a blue headscarf and gesturing towards the earth, suggests she is about to return to dust.

How Was This Depiction Made?

Michelangelo’s involvement with the Sistine Chapel ceiling began in 1508 under the commission of Pope Julius II. The project, which took four years, involved the creation of numerous biblical scenes, including the famous depictions of Genesis. Although Michelangelo initially hesitated to take on the work, he ultimately excelled in his portrayal of the human form. During this period, he likely witnessed a breast deformity in one of the figures and incorporated it into his artwork, intentionally reflecting the physical details.

A team of international experts from diverse fields, including art history, medicine, and genetics, have studied the depiction of this woman in the painting. Their research suggests that Michelangelo’s portrayal of breast cancer was intentional, as they found the characteristics of the breast in the painting to be consistent with medical knowledge of the disease. They also compared these features with those of other figures in the artwork, ensuring the authenticity of their analysis.

Experts believe that Michelangelo’s depiction of breast cancer may not have been a direct copy of a real-life model but rather a result of his deep understanding of anatomy, gained from years of participating in dissections. The precise representation of the disease suggests that he had an awareness of it, which could have been informed by the genetic inheritance of high-risk genes in Europe at the time. Notably, the shading and details of the breast have remained unchanged over the years, further supporting the intentionality of Michelangelo’s depiction.

A Pattern of Depictions

This is not the only instance in which Michelangelo appears to have depicted breast cancer. In a later work, the carving of a feminine figure for the tomb of Giuliano de’ Medici features similar signs of breast deformity. This piece, noticed by oncologists in 2000, adds weight to the theory that Michelangelo intentionally portrayed breast cancer in his artwork.

The recent medical study of Michelangelo’s ‘Genesis’ adds a new layer of understanding to the artist’s genius, revealing a potential awareness of breast cancer centuries before it was formally recognized. Through a combination of medical and artistic analysis, experts have unveiled the artist’s thoughtful representation of the disease, further cementing his legacy as both a visionary artist and a keen observer of the human body.

</excerpt>

A breast cancer awareness campaign by cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s non-profit, YouWeCan Foundation, has come under fire for using the term “oranges” to refer to breasts. The campaign intended to promote early detection of breast cancer, but its choice of words has sparked criticism.

One of the campaign’s ads, with the message “Check your oranges once a month,” features a young woman holding two oranges while standing on a bus. Meanwhile, several elderly women, including one with a crate of oranges, are seated around her. The ad was meant to encourage regular self-examinations, but many found it offensive and inappropriate.

Social media backlash

A social media user shared a picture of the ad, which was displayed inside a Delhi Metro coach, criticizing both YouWeCan and Delhi Metro for the ad’s poor imagery and word choice. The user, with the handle Confusedicius, wrote: “How will a country raise breast cancer awareness if we can’t even call breasts what they are. Saw this at Delhi Metro and like what the hell? Check your oranges? Who makes these campaigns, who approves them? Are we governed by such dumb people that they let this poster become public?”

The user expressed disappointment with the ad, calling it “shameful and embarrassing.” They also tagged Yuvraj Singh, urging him to take down the campaign. Additionally, the user called out Delhi Metro officials, asking for the ad’s removal: “This advertisement is one of the most tone-deaf advertisements I have ever seen. Will you put up any advertisement if someone pays you? Please remove this.”

Further criticism

Another message from the same campaign, shared on Instagram, included phrases like “How well do you know your oranges?” and “Have you checked your oranges lately?” This, too, sparked a wave of disapproval. Dr. Pragathi Gurram, a cardiologist, voiced her concerns in the comments section, saying, “It’s hard to understand how we can genuinely raise awareness about something when we can’t even use the correct terminology. What kind of message are we sending? Who is approving these campaigns?”

Yuvraj Singh’s personal battle with cancer

Yuvraj Singh, who fought a rare form of lung cancer called mediastinal seminoma in 2011, is the founder of YouWeCan. He underwent several rounds of chemotherapy in the US and was finally discharged in March 2012, marking a victory in his fight against the disease. His personal journey has inspired the foundation’s mission, though this campaign has drawn unexpected criticism.

The campaign, though well-intended, has left many questioning the choice of messaging and its effectiveness in raising awareness about such a serious issue.

</excerpt>

Breast cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide, is not just a physical battle but a profound emotional journey. The impact of this disease extends far beyond the physical symptoms and treatment side effects, significantly affecting mental health. This article explores the intricate relationship between breast cancer and mental health, and highlights the importance of integrated care approaches in managing both aspects of the illness.

UNDERSTANDING BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer originates in the cells of the breast, often forming a lump or mass that can be detected through self-examination or mammography. The disease can spread to nearby lymph nodes or other parts of the body, making early detection and treatment crucial. Common treatments include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy, each with its own set of side effects and challenges.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL TOLL

A breast cancer diagnosis is a life-altering event. The initial shock of the diagnosis, followed by the rigors of treatment, can lead to a range of psychological responses. Studies reveal that individuals with breast cancer often experience heightened levels of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Anxiety and Depression

The fear of the unknown is a powerful stressor. Patients frequently worry about the efficacy of their treatment, potential side effects, and the impact on their long-term survival. This anxiety can manifest as persistent worry, panic attacks, or insomnia. Depression is also common, characterized by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. Both anxiety and depression can significantly impact a patient’s quality of life and their ability to cope with treatment.

Body Image and Self-Esteem

Breast cancer treatment often involves surgery, such as mastectomy or lumpectomy, which can alter the body’s appearance. These changes may affect self-esteem and body image, leading to feelings of unattractiveness or loss of femininity. The impact on body image can contribute to a decreased sense of self-worth and exacerbate mental health issues.

Social and Relationship Strains

Breast cancer can strain personal relationships and social interactions. Partners, family members, and friends may struggle to provide adequate support, and patients may feel isolated or misunderstood. The emotional strain can also affect marital relationships and parent-child dynamics, complicating the overall coping process.

INTEGRATED TREATMENT APPROACHES

Addressing the mental health needs of breast cancer patients is crucial for holistic care. Integrated treatment approaches that encompass both physical and psychological aspects of care can improve overall outcomes and enhance quality of life.

Psychological Support

Therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and counseling, can be highly effective in managing anxiety and depression. CBT helps patients develop coping strategies and alter negative thought patterns. Counseling provides a safe space for patients to express their feelings and receive emotional support. Support groups, whether in-person or online, also offer valuable peer support and shared experiences, helping patients feel less alone in their journey.

Psychiatric Care

For some patients, psychiatric medications may be necessary to manage severe anxiety or depression. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications can provide relief, though they should be used in conjunction with other therapeutic interventions for best results.

Holistic and Complementary Therapies

Complementary therapies, such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, and acupuncture, can help alleviate stress and improve emotional well-being. These practices promote relaxation and offer patients tools to manage their stress levels. Nutritional counseling and physical exercise also play a role in overall health and can enhance mood and energy levels.

Support Systems

Family and friends play a crucial role in the emotional well-being of breast cancer patients. Providing education on the emotional impact of cancer and offering practical support, such as help with daily tasks, can relieve some of the burdens patients face. Encouraging open communication and fostering a supportive environment can significantly improve mental health outcomes.

Breast cancer is a multifaceted illness that impacts not only physical health but also mental and emotional well-being. Recognizing and addressing the psychological challenges associated with breast cancer is essential for comprehensive care. An integrated approach that combines medical treatment with psychological support can help patients navigate their journey with greater resilience and improve their overall quality of life. </excerpt>

In a medical marvel, doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre successfully treated a 32-year-old female patient from Delhi with metastatic breast cancer. The patient was suffering from cancer that had spread to her bones. Upon further diagnosis, it was found that it was also spreading towards the breast. As part of her ongoing treatment, while she was responding well to hormonal therapy for metastatic breast cancer, the diagnosis revealed that there was a tumour in the breast that was not responding to the line of treatment. Looking at her condition and the size of the mass, Dr. Bharat Gupta, Consultant in Interventional Radiology, and his team decided to provide local treatment in the form of cryoablation for the breast lesion.

Cryoablation is a minimally invasive interventional radiology procedure that uses extreme cold temperatures to freeze and kill abnormal cancerous and pre-cancerous cells. The procedure is visualized using imaging guidance such as ultrasound or computed tomography (CT) to safely form an iceball around the cancerous lesion through a thin needle. Cryoablation is a type of therapy that is a less-invasive and less-painful alternative to traditional surgical procedures since it only requires a small, pin-hole-sized incision. It also reduces the chances of acquired infections after the surgery and reduces hospital stays.

Speaking about the treatment Dr. Bharat Gupta, Consultant Interventional Radiology, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, said, “Cryoablation has an advantage over other ablation methods. One of the main differences is that the ablation area can be visualized in real-time using CT and ultrasound. In addition, cryoablation is less painful due to the anesthetic effect of ice and can be performed patiently under mild sedation. There is a strong immune response seen that consists of antibody production against tumor-specific antigens that reside in tissues after cryoablation.”

“Due to the patient’s young age and the non-responsive nature of the breast lesion to hormonal therapy cryoablation was the best treatment choice for her. The procedure was done under local anesthesia, and the patient was fit for discharge on the next day of the procedure. This innovative treatment option offers hope for patients seeking an alternative to traditional surgery.” He added.

With its minimally invasive approach, fast recovery times, and comparable cure rates, cryoablation is an increasingly popular treatment option for cancer patients in India. Globally, cryoablation is used to treat cancers like kidney, lung, bone, liver, prostate, and breast.

A groundbreaking study on AI model-based breast cancer detection has garnered renewed attention following a recent tweet by business mogul Anand Mahindra. The study, conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and the Jameel Clinic, was first published in January 2021 but has gained viral status thanks to Mahindra’s endorsement. He commented on the potential impact of AI in healthcare, stating, “If this is accurate, then AI is going to be of significantly more value to us than we imagined and much earlier than we had imagined…(sic).”

The research introduces “Mirai,” an advanced deep learning system designed to predict breast cancer risk up to five years in advance, even in the absence of symptoms. This AI model leverages mammograms—standard X-ray images of the breast—to assess risk. It stands out for its ability to maintain high accuracy despite variations in clinical settings, such as different types of mammography machines.

If this is accurate, then AI is going to be of significantly more value to us than we imagined and much earlier than we had imagined… https://t.co/5Mo2cT7X7T

— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) July 28, 2024

Mirai was trained using over 200,000 mammogram exams from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and has been further tested in international locations, including Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. The model has demonstrated superior performance compared to existing risk-assessment algorithms, including the Tyrer-Cuzick model, by predicting nearly twice as many future cancer diagnoses.

The AI system’s architecture comprises four key modules:

Image Aggregator: Collects and processes all conventional mammography images to create a comprehensive representation of the mammogram.

Data Aggregation: Compiles image data from various views.

Risk-Factor Prediction: Utilizes mammography to estimate the patient’s risk factors if available.

Additive-Hazard Layer: Combines patient risk variables and mammography analysis to forecast annual risk over the next five years.

Adam Yala, the study’s lead author from MIT, emphasized the model’s capacity to extract subtle cues from mammograms that indicate future cancer development. Regina Barzilay, a professor at MIT, highlighted Mirai’s advantage over traditional models, noting its consistent performance across diverse races, ages, and family histories.

As AI technology continues to evolve, This AI model represents a significant leap forward in personalized cancer prevention, offering hope for earlier detection and more effective management of breast cancer.

She shared a video of her comeback on her socials, showcasing her cancer scars. The team tried to hide her scars. She wore a wig in the said video and was seen saying “The show must go on”.

“My first work assignment after my diagnosis… Walking the talk is challenging, especially when facing life’s biggest challenges. So, give yourself a break on bad days; it’s okay… you deserve it. However, don’t forget to live your life on the good days, no matter how few they are. These days still hold importance. Accept the change, embrace the difference, and NORMALISE it,” she wrote with the video. “I look forward to the good days because I get to do what I love: Work. I love my work. I live my dreams when I’m working, and that is my greatest motivation. I want to keep working. Many people work regular jobs during their treatment without issues, and I am no different. I met a few in these months and trust me it changed my perspective”. She added

</excerpt>

Israeli researchers have introduced a new therapeutic strategy to tackle metastatic breast cancer, utilizing existing medications, in a promising development aimed at enhancing survival rates.

Breast cancer begins in the breast tissue, usually within the milk ducts or lobules. It has the ability to metastasize, spreading through the bloodstream or lymphatic system to form secondary cancerous tumors in other areas of the body. Notably, breast cancer frequently metastasizes to the bones.

When breast cancer cells spread to the bones, they interfere with normal bone function, causing symptoms such as bone pain, fractures, and increased levels of calcium in the blood. Approximately half of individuals diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer experience bone metastasis.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University, headed by Prof. Neta Erez and Lea Monteran, examined bone samples from model mice representing various metastasis stages. They identified crucial mechanisms underlying disease progression, especially the interaction between cancer cells and the immune system. These findings, published in the peer-reviewed journal Cancer Discovery, highlight the potential of repurposing existing drugs.

“A tumor is more than a mere conglomerate of cancer cells; it constitutes an intricate ecosystem comprising diverse cell types. Understanding and intercepting the communication channels between cancer cells and healthy tissues are paramount in thwarting the progression of bone metastasis,” Erez said.

One significant finding was the involvement of T cells, key players in the immune system, in infiltrating bone metastases. The researchers observed that inhibitory immune cells impede the efforts of T cells, limiting their ability to eliminate cancerous cells.

With this insight, the team developed a therapeutic combination of existing drugs aimed at neutralizing the inhibitory immune cells and enhancing the function of T cells.

When tested on mice, the combination of drugs showed promising outcomes, notably reducing bone metastases and improving survival rates. Further examination of tissue samples from breast cancer patients supported the significance of these findings in clinical settings, indicating potential applicability across different cancer types.

“This combined treatment strategy holds immense potential for addressing bone metastasis not only in breast cancer but also in other malignancies,” Erez explained.

Crucially, both elements of the treatment regimen are already commercially accessible, potentially expediting the process for clinical implementation. However, the researchers emphasized the need for additional clinical trials.

</excerpt>

Miss India Tripura 2017 Rinky Chakma passed away at the young age of 28. After fighting cancer for the last two years, the former Miss India Tripura winner eventually succumbed to the disease. Since 2022, she has been battling cancer. Rinky had surgery after receiving a diagnosis of malignant Phyllodes tumor (breast cancer). But the cancer metastasized to her lungs and progressed to her head, where it developed into a brain tumour. Later on, according to a report from Femina, her health declined and she was unable to sustain chemo.

News reports state that Rinky Chakma was hospitalized to Max Hospital Saket on February 22 and was in critical condition. One of her lungs was nearly nonfunctional, therefore she was in the intensive care unit on a ventilator. The former Miss India Tripura asked for financial support for her treatment in an Instagram post last month. She detailed her experience with cancer in the post, as well as how, in the past, she had felt uneasy discussing her medical issues on social media.

However, Rinky explained how she and her family need financial aid now for the cancer treatment.

She wrote, “I just wanted to let everyone know that me and my family is going through a rough time and the last two years have also not been easy with regular hospital stays and visits. I am accepting donations as of now because we have exhausted all our savings on my treatment since the last two years. I thought letting everyone know what I am going through will also make me feel better.”

Rinky Chakma won the Miss India Tripura crown in 2017. Rinky, a finalist for Miss India, won two sub-titles of Miss Congeniality and Beauty With a Purpose. In the same year, Manushi Chhillar was victorious in both the Miss World and Miss India World pageants.

He has consistently stood by his wife Tahira Kashyap, a writer, and the two of them have supported one another through good times and bad. She is a survivor of breast cancer.
Using pictures of Tahira’s courageous fight against the illness, Ayushmann made a heartfelt message on World Cancer Day, praising her indomitable spirit.

He included several photos in the post, the first of which showed the couple taking a mirror selfie and the last of which included Tahira displaying her scar from the surgery. The post ends with a boomerang video of Tahira working out. The third image features Tahira in an orange t-shirt with denim and a stylish cap.

On World Cancer Day the couple took to social media to express their love.

He captioned it with, “The girl I pulled by having samosa and chai at hut number 14 in Panjab University. All the best for your debut at the @spokenfest today. In love with your heart and spirit @tahirakashyap ..#WorldCancerDay”

Tahira Kashyap was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. She took to her Instagram account and made the shocking revelation.

Her post read, “An opportunity to give competition to the Kardashians just went wasted! A week back I mentioned about ‘my badge of honour’ that I was going to receive. And I did and am happy to share about it with the intention of it being received with love. As that’s the only reason I am posting it. Love for self and gratitude for the universe. The picture might be disturbing for some, but these drains have become my dumbells for a few days. I was detected with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) in my right breast with high grade malignant cells. Simply put stage 0 cancer/ pre-cancerous stage, with cancer cells multiplying in a contained area. The result I have become a half Indian version of Angelina Jolie (since only one breast was involved)!”

“I told my doctor now is the time to give some competition to the Kardashians since Pamela is passe. But no one listened to me, so now I have a portion of my back tissue in my breast. Perhaps now I can do chin-ups with my breasts! Jokes apart, this obstacle has given me a new definition of life. Respect it’s unpredictability and have the faith and courage to be the hero of your own drama of life. The invincible human spirit is God like, gives you the courage to endure and the will to revive. There is nothing that human spirit can’t do,” she added.

Ayushmann and Tahira got married in 2008 and have two kids, a son Virajveer and a daughter Varushka.

The 51-year-old journalist spoke openly about her condition, expressing thanks for the new perspective it has provided.

During the emotional on-air moment, Sidner shared that she is in her second month of chemotherapy and is set to undergo radiation and a double mastectomy as part of her treatment plan. Urging viewers to reflect on the names of eight women in their lives, she emphasized that one in every eight women faces breast cancer at some point. Sidner, shocked by her own diagnosis, revealed, “I am that one in eight in my friend group. I have never been sick a day in my life. I don’t smoke, I rarely drink, breast cancer does not run in my family, and yet here I am with stage 3 breast cancer.”

She passionately called on women of all backgrounds to prioritize regular mammograms and self-exams.

In a subsequent interview with People Magazine, Sidner shared that her journey began when a mammogram conducted during her coverage of the war in Israel raised concerns. After returning to the U.S., a biopsy confirmed the presence of cancer in an advanced stage. Despite initially keeping the news to herself, Sidner eventually embraced a determination to fight. “I just made a decision. I’m like, ‘No, you’re going to live, and you’re going to stop this, and you’re going to do every single thing in your arsenal to survive this. Period,'” she said.

Expressing gratitude for the life-changing diagnosis, Sidner acknowledged that her perspective on life has shifted. Fighting back tears, she revealed, “I have thanked cancer for choosing me. I’m learning that no matter what hell we go through in life, I am still madly in love with this life, and just being alive feels really different for me now.”

The model will be able to determine a personal genetic risk score for breast cancer based on an individual’s genetic profile, for the first time in Israel.

The University, in a press release, said that this technique can form the basis for the implementation of a personalized early detection policy and may help save lives and allow more effective use of the health system’s resources.

The research was published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Medical Genetics and is based on a large-scale international study that includes the genomic data of around a quarter of a million women with and without breast cancer. After collecting the data it was applied to the findings of about 2,000 Israeli women.

Professor Rani Elkon of the Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry at TAU’s School of Medicine said, “Our method will allow the health system to move to a personalized early detection policy… those who are identified as being at high risk will be tested from a younger age and more frequently.”

Around the world, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer. While it is gradually in the declining phase over the past few decades, the chances are that 2.5 per cent (1 in 39 women), will fall victim to the disease.
