</excerpt>

Television has traditionally been viewed as the less glamorous sibling of cinema, often overshadowed by the larger-than-life scale of films, both in India and the West. However, the rise of streaming services has transformed this perception, allowing TV shows to boast significantly larger budgets and more expansive storytelling. One such show has set a new record, eclipsing even the priciest films ever made.

World’s Most Expensive TV Show

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ holds the title of the most expensive TV show in history. Premiering on Amazon Prime Video in 2022, it cost Amazon Studios an astonishing $1 billion (₹8,300 crore), according to Deadline. This figure encompasses the rights acquisition and promotional expenses for the first season. Collider reported that the production costs alone reached around $465 million (over Rs. 3,800 crore), with each of the eight episodes costing an eye-watering $58 million (Rs. 480 crore).

How ‘Rings of Power’ Towers Above Big Films

In comparison, the most expensive film to date, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, had a production budget of $447 million, which is still less than that of ‘The Rings of Power’. Notably, the original ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy had a combined production cost of just $260 million for all three films, highlighting how far the spinoff has advanced in financial terms.

When it comes to Indian cinema, the gap is even wider. The most costly Indian films, including ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘RRR’, and ‘Adipurush’, have budgets ranging from $70 to $75 million, a mere fraction (1/15th) of ‘The Rings of Power’s season 1 total cost. Remarkably, the per-episode production cost of $58 million surpasses the budgets of major Indian films like ‘Brahmastra Part One’ ($45 million), ‘Singham Again’ ($42 million), and ‘Jawan’ ($36 million).

All About Rings of Power

Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s appendices, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ explores the rise of Sauron, the main antagonist in Tolkien’s lore. Set centuries before the events of ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’, the show introduces new characters alongside beloved favorites. While the first season received mixed reviews, it garnered solid ratings, and a second season, which received a better reception, was released earlier this year.

</excerpt>

Ranbir Kapoor recently provided a huge update regarding the upcoming sci-fi action flick ‘Brahmastra 2′ during a fan event.
He said “Brahmastra 2” is “heavy into writing” in a footage that was posted on Reddit from the fans’ gathering.

Ranbir said, “Brahmastra Part 2 is heavy into writing. We are working on it all the time. It’s just last week that Ayan narrated the film to me and he has gone 10 times bigger than Part 1 – his idea, his thought, the character. He is working on War 2 right now. So the plan is to finish War 2 by mid-next year and we start shooting hopefully by the end of next year or the beginning of 2025.”

He added, “But definitely a lot of work has already been happening on the film. We understood the kind of criticism for the film, what worked for it and what didn’t. So we have put everything into consideration, the dialogue and comments on Shiva and Isha’s missing chemistry. A lot of criticism was constructive and we have taken that into our stride and we are trying to understand that and go beyond that.”

‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ is the first part of the planned trilogy in the Astraverse by Ayan Mukerji. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.Shah Rukh Khan had a cameo in the first part. If reports are to be believed, the second part will feature Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. It will be interesting to see how the Astraverse develops in the sequel to ‘Brahmastra’ and beyond.

‘Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev’ will hit the theatres in December 2026, whereas ‘Part Three’ will be released in the theatres exactly a year after the second part, in December 2027.

‘Brahmastra’ two and three are going to be made together. This is something I hadn’t figured out when we released part one. The truth is we are going to take a little bit of time to write it. I know there’s a lot of anticipation. People want the film to come out (soon). But first, we have to write it without compromising it.

Speaking at the Rising India Summit, the filmmaker says that while the release of Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev might take a while, he reveals that he will simultaneously be shooting for the second and the third parts of the film. He adds: “We will make Brahmastra 2 and 3 together. The truth is we are going to take a little bit of time to write it.
Brahmastra has been a great hit on the box office and people have loved the movie. Ayan Mukerji recently spoke about Shahrukh Khan’s cameo in the movie which has been the highlights of the fantasy-drama. The actor is seen as Mohan Bhargav, a scientist who wields Vanarastra. While discussing Shah Rukh’s cameo, Ayan compared his scenes in the film to Iron Man.Ayan Mukerji was quoted as saying in a recent report, “If you actually look closely, you will see the tonality of that scene is a little bit Iron Man-like. We always thought Vanarastra will always exist in the world of science, which is why we have shown him to be a scientist.”The filmmaker added, “The tonality of that scene, because it is a bit of an item sequence at the beginning of part one, is different from the tonality of the rest of the film. Brahmastra has a romance between Shiva and Isha, it has some sincerity in its tonality. But Shah Rukh Khan is kind of a hero, cracking jokes. So, I knew that that tonality is different, even when we were shooting it, we were like this is very exciting. We were also having fun while shooting that part as it was very playful.”Recently, Ayan had shared that not only Shah Rukh’s fans, but the makers have also been thinking about a spin-off for his character in Brahmastra. Ayan teased that the spin-off might tell the origin story of the scientist. Ayan had told in an interview, “Before the fans were saying it, we were also saying that ourselves. When we were shooting the sequence in 2019, we were also saying on sets. As we discovered the personality of the scientist, we said, ‘Yaar, we have to do stuff. We have to do the origin story of the scientist!'”The sci-fi drama was launched on 9 September in the cinemas and has been performing well.

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, which debuted in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada on Friday, had a successful opening weekend in theatres all around the world. The Ayan Mukerji-directed film, which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt together for the first time, debuted with a worldwide gross of $75 crore.

The movie’s producer, posted the update to Instagram with the remark, “Humbled… Grateful…but yet can’t control my excitement!” The post reads, “Day 1 worldwide box office revenue was 75 crore. Brahmastra, Part One. Shiva ji. Thank You”.

In both versions, it made between 35 and 36 crore at the box office in India on day one, according to Boxofficeindia.com. </excerpt>

There is fire, light, and superheroes who wield special astras created by Brahm-Shakti and contain powers similar to those found in the Jal (water), Pawan (wind), Agney (fire), and animal and plant life.The universe was split into three parts to protect it from evil energies, but the most potent astra, known as Brahmastra, is supposed to be capable of destroying the entire cosmos. And then there’s the real-to-reel chemistry between Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, which lights up the screen.

Brahmastra: Part One: Shiva is a love story, but as the powers that govern this cosmos seize control, the conflict between good and evil quickly emerges. Brahmastra is similar to playing an online game. Brahmastra, a film written and directed by Ayan Mukerji, is a heady fusion of Hindu mythology and sci-fi elements that serves as the backdrop of an, to put it mildly, unique love story.

A DJ named Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) has a strange connection to fire and falls in love with Isha (Alia Bhatt) at first sight. As their relationship progresses, his search for the cause of this strange connection grows more intense. His visions of devastation become more distinct, and he crosses paths with Guru ji (Amitabh Bachchan), the head of the Brahmnsh, a hidden society of sages who harness the Brahm-Shakti, unaware that he is meant to awaken the Brahmstra. The dark force’s queen, Junoon (Mouni Roy), has to locate the fragments of Brahmastra in order to carry out her terrible schemes.

Brahmastra begins as a typical, traditional man meets girl love story, but it doesn’t waste any time setting up the real idea, which is letting Shiva go on a journey with you to discover his ultimate goal. Brahmastra’s overly complicated plot causes it to occasionally become muddled, but it quickly returns to its original course. Mukerji clearly went overboard with some elements, but thankfully it never becomes annoying or distracting.It took him nearly eight years to complete the final film.

The movie feels a little rushed at 2 hours and 45 minutes, especially in the first half, and 20 to 25 minutes could have been easily cut at the editing desk. Although the way Shiva and Isha’s romance developed in the first half, it didn’t need to be developed further. The second half starts off strong with flashbacks into Shiva’s past and the mystery surrounding Brahmastra. There are also some truly amazing scenes that leave you in awe. The enchantment of the VFX (all done in India), the treatment of the astras, and the grandeur of everything surrounding the protagonists make Brahmastra a visual extravaganza and genuinely a cinematic experience to be savoured on the large screen, even though the tale was never really intended to be simple.

Brahmastra has a serious tone, but the dialogues are infused with Hussain Dalal’s subtle humour, which is infused at a few points and doesn’t seem out of place even in the most intense scenario or a battle. Speaking of battle scenes, the choreography is top notch and on par with some of the best we’ve seen in movies like RRR and Baahubali.

Bollywood ace director Karan Johar on Friday said that the Indian film industry should not be referred to as ‘Bollywood’ or ‘Tollywood’ and start treating it as one industry.

Meanwhile, during a press event of ‘Brahmastra’ Karan delivered an important message in Hyderabad.

“We, in our own tiny way, are trying to reach every corner (of the country with our film). Like SS Rajamouli sir said, this is Indian cinema. Let’s not call it anything else. We keep giving it a wood…Bollywood, Tollywood. We are not in the woods anymore, we are out of them. We are proudly part of Indian cinema. Each and every film will be now from Indian cinema,” Johar emphasized.

Moreover, ‘KGF’ star Yash also asked to stop everyone from classifying Indian cinema into sub-categories in April 2022.

“I think people have moved on. It’s high time we have to understand that it’s one industry and stop classifying it into categories. After that so much has changed. If it would not have changed, people would not have accepted it (pan Indian films with star cast from different film industries) in such a big way,” Johar said, referring to the release of his film ‘KGF 2’ and ‘RRR’.

In the movie ‘KGF 2’ Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon also starred apart from Yash and in ‘RRR’ Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn starred alongside NTR and Ram Charan.

However, talking about Karan Johar’s work front he is currently busy on his next directorial project ‘Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. The movie stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and is scheduled to release on February 10, 2023.

The most admired couple, Randir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, earlier this month announced their first baby and have become the talk of the town since then.

He said,”I am having twins, I am going to be part of a very big mythological film, I am taking a long break from work.”

This statement by Ranbir Kapoor has left the netizens wondering if the newly weds are expecting twin babies.

The internet poured in with the opinions of the fans. One of them wrote, “what is correct? what is false? in my opinion, the “i’am having twins” is false, because ramayan will be finalised, he is in talks and for the long break, ranbir is taking a 2 months break after brahmastra to prepare for animal. WDYT ? #ranbirkapoor”
