‘Outcast Since First Grade’: Anshula on Boney Kapoor’s Marriage to Sridevi

Anshula Kapoor, daughter of Boney Kapoor, opened up about the emotional aftermath when her father fell in love with Sridevi. She also talked about the separation of her parents. In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Anshula said she faced social rejection in school after the family split, as divorce and separation were still taboo in 1990s India.

A Childhood Marked by Social Rejection

“Going back to school, of course things changed. You have to keep in mind that our parents separated in the 1990s… Our tradition speaks about one marriage, one family, lasting for life. Divorces were unheard of,” Anshula explained. She added, “When our parents separated, it took people a while to understand that there is nothing inherently wrong with anybody’s character.”

She recalled being in first grade when families started distancing themselves. “They didn’t want their children to come into our house and be part of any friction,” she said. “I remember there was a drastic shift in the way my classmates were behaving… It was a very emotional and confusing time to be in school.”

Anshula said her brother Arjun was in secondary school at the time, so she leaned on cousins Rhea and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor for emotional support. “It’s very difficult, as a child, to understand why you’re being alienated… I’ve always had to meander my way through life as an individual,” she shared.

Impact Of Sridevi And Boney Kapoor’s Marriage

She also discussed the absence of her father. “There was the confusion of not having dad at home, ever. Trying to deal with the reality of the family axis having shifted… was very difficult,” she added. However, she found strength in her mother and brother. “Now, we’re a lot more open-minded.”

Her mother never kept secrets from her, even about the public nature of Boney Kapoor’s new relationship. “Had they not been that public, it would’ve been easier for us to deal with,” she said.

After Sridevi died in 2018, Anshula and Arjun reconnected with their half-sisters Janhvi and Khushi. “We went through our own turmoil… But we had each other for comfort,” Anshula said, calling them her gain from tragedy.

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, and Harshvardhan Kapoor, gathered in Mumbai on Saturday to pay their last respects to Nirmal Kapoor, the mother of veteran actor Anil Kapoor. She passed away on May 2 at the age of 90 after a brief hospital stay at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

The funeral is being held at the Vile Parle Crematorium on S.V. Road in Mumbai. Many stars were seen arriving at the crematorium to offer condolences. Rani Mukerji appeared in a white kurta and blue jeans. Harshvardhan Kapoor, Nirmal Kapoor’s grandson, was also present, followed by his sister Sonam Kapoor. Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, dressed in white, also attended.

Boney Kapoor, Nirmal’s son, was seen at the venue. Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor arrived hand in hand to bid farewell to their grandmother. Earlier in the morning, the Kapoor family held the Antim Darshan at Nirmal Kapoor’s residence. Family members including Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Sunita Kapoor, Maheep Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Sonam Kapoor were present for the final viewing.

Boney Kapoor has subsequently revealed some sob stories about the health issues confronting Sridevi, revealing why she might have died so senselessly.

Sridevi’s Strict Low-Salt Diet and Its Consequences

Boney Kapoor revealed that Sridevi’s strict low-salt diet might have contributed to her health issues. He explained that the actress was on a diet plan aimed at maintaining her physique, which led to her consuming very little salt. “The doctor kept on telling her ( Sridevi) that you have a low BP (blood pressure) issue, don’t stick to a severe diet where you avoid salt. Because most of the females believe that salt creates water retention that’s why your face is puffy. That is one reason why Sri used to avoid salt. We used to tell her that even if you are having some salad, just sprinkle some salt on it,” Boney Kapoor disclosed.

The Risks of Low Low-Salt Diet

Whereas salt is widely blamed for blood pressure and water retention, eliminating it from the diet may also be dangerous. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that daily salt consumption should be around five grams. Sodium deficiency can cause serious health issues, such as coma.

Even though sodium is one of the required electrolytes necessary to maintain a balance of body fluids, the lack of adequate intake can also be as lethal as overuse.

Health Risks Associated with Low Sodium Intake

One of the most concerning threats posed by a low-sodium diet is heart failure. Health specialists, such as Healthline, indicate that heart failure happens when the heart fails to pump a sufficient amount of blood to cater to the needs of the body.

Although this does not indicate that the heart has ceased functioning, it is nevertheless a grave condition. Interestingly, research indicates that low-sodium diets have been shown to cause an elevated death rate in those already experiencing heart failure.

Split between two brothers began when producer Boney Kapoor decided not to cast Anil Kapoor in the sequal and not to inform him privately. No Entry 2 has now actors Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles. The film will be directed by Anees Bazmee and is all set to hit theatres in December.
