</excerpt>

Sonakshi Sinha, returning to work after her recent marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, discussed her upcoming release “Kakuda,” premiering on ZEE5 today, in an interview with The Indian Express. She expressed enthusiasm about exploring new territories with this project, describing it as a departure from her usual comfort zone. Sonakshi emphasized her interest in diverse genres and affirmed her reluctance to accept roles in films characterized solely by a few songs and scenes. Her commitment to meaningful and substantial roles reflects her dedication to expanding her acting repertoire beyond conventional formats.

During the interview when Sonakshi was asked if it can be challenging for actors if there is less work to do in mainstream films, she said, “Toh acchha hai na (It is good then)! I would like to do big roles, important roles. It is a good thing. Akira (2016), where I was the hero, it was like tasting blood. I never want to go back to doing two songs and four scenes in a film. So, I am enjoying this phase. Bring it on!”

She went on to add, “Kakuda came to me and I just found it to be such a fun read. I was very entertained while reading the script. Although I don’t like horror films, there was so much humour in this film. Aditya (Sarpotdar) is someone who has understood this genre so well. I think his grasp on it is fantastic. He kind of knows where to scare people, where to make them laugh, the punches, the beats, he gets it bang on. It was a pleasure to work on a genre like this for the first time with a director like him who is so well versed with it. So, I had a blast. It was me stepping out of my comfort zone, trying out something I hadn’t done before. I’d love to do it again because it was so much fun.”

</excerpt>

The love of mothers is widely recognized as one of the purest and most unconditional forms of affection, characterized by their unwavering dedication to their children. It is often said that a mother’s love knows no bounds and that she would go to great lengths for her child. Motherhood brings both joy and fulfillment, but it also presents challenges and demands. Mothers are often regarded as angelic figures and the reason for one’s existence. In Bollywood, mothers play more than just supporting roles; they are central figures in many narratives. Bollywood movies are known for delivering memorable dialogues, especially those spoken by mothers, which evoke emotions and nostalgia, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. On this special day, let’s take a moment to remember and appreciate some of the iconic dialogues spoken by mothers in films.

‘Mere paas maa hai’

Recall the iconic dialogue from the late Yash Chopra’s movie ‘Deewar’? It has resonated with audiences and continues to be referenced in memes today. This remains one of the most renowned mother dialogues of all time. In the scene, Shashi Kapoor encounters his villainous brother (Amitabh Bachchan) who has become a police officer.

‘Tu abhi itna bhi ameer nahi hua, ki apni maa ko khareed sake’

Another memorable dialogue from the same movie. Salim-Javed Akhtar crafted numerous remarkable dialogues, making each scene in this film unforgettable. These scenes illustrate that a mother’s essence embodies selflessness and unconditional love, qualities that cannot be bought with money. Released in January 1975, this film features Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, and Parveen Babi.

‘Bhagwan har jagah nahi hota hai, isi liye toh usne maa banai hai’

This widespread sentiment conveys the notion that mothers embody God’s love and nurturing attributes. It underscores that mothers are often perceived as guardians, nurturers, and a source of solace, offering us security, comfort, and compassion akin to that of God. The dialogue delivered by the late Sridevi in the film ‘Mom’ resonates with audiences in a unique and heartfelt manner.

‘Ammi jaan kehti thi koi dhanda chota nahi hota’

The iconic dialogue ‘Ammi jaan kehti thi koi dhanda chota nahi hota, aur dhande se bada koi dharam nahi hota’ from Rahul Dholakia’s directorial ‘Raees’, featuring superstar Shah Rukh Khan, continues to linger in our thoughts and motivates us to strive for success in life. Mothers serve as our initial educators, and their guidance molds us into virtuous individuals.

‘Jab ladki jawan ho jati hai, toh maa uski maa nahi rehti sehali ban jaati hai’

Indeed, we girls often discover our true best friends in our mothers, don’t we? Another dialogue by Farida Jalal from ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ resonates as a genuine reflection of every mother-daughter relationship. While Crew was a light-hearted comedy-drama, Maidaan catered to those fond of sports sagas. Similarly, Madgaon Express appealed to the younger audience. Swatantra Veer Savarkar, on the other hand, celebrated the life of a braveheart. Rounding up the list of recent releases was Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, an actioner designed to woo the masses.

However, not all these films were accepted by the audience. Here is a look at the box office performances of five major recent releases.

Swatantra Veer Savarkar

Swatantra Veer Savarkar, starring Randeep Hooda, hit screens on March 22. The biographical drama revolves around the life journey of Indian freedom fighter and reformer Damodar Sarvarkar, popularly known as Veer Sarvarkar.

Shot on a budget of 20 crore, the film reportedly earned Rs 23.66 crore at the box office during its theatrical run to emerge as an ‘average’ grosser.

Directed by Randeep Hooda, the film features him as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar alongside Ankita Lokhande, Amit Sial, and R Bhakti. It explores India’s freedom struggle through Savarkar’s eyes.

Crew

Crew, which hit screens on March 29, received a favorable response during the first weekend of its release.

The film is made on a budget of 75 crores. It brings together Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Diljit Dosanjh. Kapil Sharma makes a special appearance in the comedy-drama. According to Film Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, the film has done very well at the box office.

“Crew has touched the 50 crore mark,” he stated.

Based on these figures, the verdict for the film is ‘hit’.

Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, the flick revolves around three flight attendants who face financial challenges because of their work situation. As things unfold, they get drawn into a complex web of deception and lies.

Madgaon Express

Madgaon Express, which hit the screens on March 22, made a decent impact at the box office despite a limited release. Rathi stated that the film continues to grow even after 30 days of its release.

“Madgaon Express is currently at around 30 crores and still taking on!” he said.

Rathi mentions that the film is still earning money. “Maidaan is somewhere between 30 to 40 crores and is heading in its second week. It is taking over the scoreboard! The word-of-mouth is great,” he said

The final verdict for ‘Maidaan’ is awaited but it might end up as ‘below average’

Based on a true story, ‘Maidaan’ is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and stars Ajay Devgn in the role of Syed Abdul Rahim, a man who dedicated his life to football. </excerpt>

The makers of the upcoming historical thriller drama film ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan,’ starring Sara Ali Khan, recently revealed the film’s title track. Amazon Prime Video shared the track on Instagram, captioning it, “journey back to a time when every word was a whisper of courage and every melody, a symbol of hope #AeWatanMereWatanOnPrime, Mar 21.”

The music for the track was composed by Akashdeep Sengupta, sung by Romy, and written by Darab Farooqui. It pays tribute to both celebrated and unsung heroes, capturing the bravery, patriotism, sacrifice, and perseverance of India’s youth during the freedom struggle.

Directed by Kannan Iyer and written by Iyer and Darab Farooqui, the film stars Sara Ali Khan, Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Alexx O’Neil, and Anand Tiwari, with a special guest appearance by Emraan Hashmi. </excerpt>

In the bygone era of Bombay, on a warm Christmas Eve, Sriram Raghavan’s “Merry Christmas” fulfills its promise, delivering a poignant blend of nostalgia and romance, along with elements of intrigue and suspense, offering a robust start to the new year.

Few directors possess the ability to authentically and affectionately recreate a glimpse of the past, and Sriram Raghavan is undoubtedly one of them. The exact date is left unspecified, but the unmistakable aura of the past permeates the narrative: a festive spirit envelops the city, streets buzz with low-slung cars carrying revelers, strings of shiny bulbs adorn housing compounds, dimly-lit restaurants with waitresses donning Santa caps serve vibrant red spaghetti, elderly uncles proudly present homemade potent wine, and a renowned South Bombay movie hall welcomes patrons into its dark interiors. The stage is set for the unexpected, and it unfolds beautifully.

Trailer

The introduction of Albert (Vijay Sethupati) and Maria (Katrina Kaif) doesn’t adhere to the traditional meet-cute formula of boy-meets-girl. Instead, it unfolds as a more mature, lived-in encounter, a series of serendipitous meetings that elicit grins from the audience. The first hour of the two-hour duration of “Merry Christmas” is marked by a continuous smile, as Albert, returning to Bombay after seven years, observes Maria’s struggle with her sleepy daughter and oversized teddy bear. He consistently appears until she eventually invites him into her home, creating a dreamy and magical atmosphere.

Despite the expected post-interval slump, it doesn’t diminish the overall experience. As Albert and Maria seamlessly navigate through the streets, sharing meaningful glances and building confidences, the audience roots for these two characters who have faced hardships in their quest for love.

Though an unconventional pairing, they manage to make it work, overcoming the inevitable challenges. Katrina Kaif, who has hinted at her acting prowess beneath the layers of makeup and glamour (as seen in ‘Zero’), convinces us with her portrayal of Maria. With her red lips and a seductive change of attire, she keeps the audience guessing about the innocence she portrays. Vijay Sethupati’s portrayal of Albert is outstanding, skillfully balancing yearning and caring as he engages with the charming Maria, dancing and swaying while holding the audience close. The pas-de-deux between the two is so captivating that one might consider watching the film again solely for this enchanting dance.

</excerpt>

Director Vinay Bhardwaj is preparing to launch a new film titled ‘Hukus Bukus,’ featuring a cast that includes Darsheel Safary, Arun Govil, Gautam Singh Vig, Vashu Jain and Naisha Khanna.

While discussing his thoughts on the film with ANI, Arun Govil said in a statement that the name seems unusual to all of us, but it is a word of the Kashmiri language, and its basic meaning is that there is a lullaby that is sung there; it is a spiritual lullaby in which it talks about the relationship between God and man. So, this film is also about a relationship between a god and a human being, and a film has been made about it.

Darsheel Safary, the well-known actor from Taare Zameen Par, stated that he took a break to focus on his academics and polish his skills. He then joined a theater and has been performing for seven or eight years. Additionally, he stated, “The character I’m portraying in this film, Arjun, is an ardent Sachin Tendulkar fan. I’m also a Sachin Tendulkar fan. I can’t express how much I follow cricket; it’s all thanks to my father. When they approached me for this film set in Kashmir, I made it clear that I didn’t want any controversial or political angles involved.”

Vinay Bhardwaj, the director, described the film’s essence, emphasizing the importance of understanding family dynamics. He added, “It is a story based on relationships. It is very important to understand the relationships within the family. Nowadays, there are a lot of problems going on outside. If everything at home is okay, then only we will be able to handle the problems outside.”

‘Hukus Bukus’ delves into the confluence of cricket and spirituality, with the picturesque backdrop of Kashmir. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 3, 2023.

The movie also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Speaking about the movie, he said, “The actor’s role is to adjust to the character’s moral code since I make a cameo appearance in the movie. This movie’s whole ensemble is made up of theatregoers, so it is even more entertaining. This comedy-satire movie has a lot of entertaining features.”

Reltic Pictures, in association with Aaliya Siddiqui and Balijinder Khanna, are the producers of the movie.

Producer Aaliya Siddiqui said, “I find art to be highly pointless if it doesn’t reflect the day-to-day happenings. Filmmakers and artists have the voice and strength to effect long-term changes, and I am delighted to produce Holy Cow. We had a theme in mind and wanted to have fun with an idea that we have all pondered. I am grateful to my eclectic cast for telling the story with such honesty and sincerity.”

The makers resealed the poster for the movie on Thursday. The movie will premiere on August 26.
