</excerpt>

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahal Balmukundacharya of Jaipur’s Hawa constituency was taken into the police records late on Friday night for apparently posting a ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ sign inside a local mosque compound in the course of a protest rally against the Pahalgam terror attack, police added.

Protests Break Out in Walled City Area

After the incident, Muslims gathered in the Walled City area to demonstrate against the reported poster. Five police stations’ police forces were deployed in the area, a senior police officer added.

“The MLA put up the poster at around 9 pm inside the mosque along with some other BJP workers right after the protest rally. The action enraged the local Muslim community who gathered in the area at hundred in number and started demanding an immediate arrest of the MLA for hurting their sentiment. A large police force from five police stations were immediately deployed in the area while the senior police officials also reached the spot to pacify the mob,” additional police commissioner (Addl CP) of Manak Chowk Hari Shankar Sharma said.

BJP MLA Balmukundacharya Defends Actions

Balmukundachrya said, “We were protesting against the terrorism and Pakistan. The same posters were also put up on the pavements.”

The BJP and local unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had arranged a protest rally on Friday evening against the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 died and some others were injured in the Baisaran meadow, 5 km from Pahalgam town in Anantnag district.

Videos Circulated on Social Media

While demonstrating, protesters had also assembled in the Badi Chaupar, torched posters, and chanted slogans against Pakistan and terrorism.

Meanwhile, a purported video of MLA Balmukundacharya. Former MLA Ashok Parnami. And three to four BJP leaders. Putting up the poster on the wall within the premise of a local mosque. And kicking over a similar poster on the ground near a bathroom. Was claimed to have circulated on social media.

Another video of his supporters chanting “Jai Shree Ram” outside the mosque was also said to have been shared on social media websites. But HT was unable to confirm the authenticity of these videos.

Authorities Step In

Balmukundachrya said, “We were protesting against the terrorism and Pakistan. The same posters were also put up on the pavements.”

Jaipur commissioner Joseph, other CP of Manak Chowk Circle Hari Shankar Sharma, and Jaipur (North) deputy police commissioner Rashi Dogra Dudi arrived at the scene to get the situation in hand.

Police personnel from five stations in the Badi Chaupar locality were deployed to ensure law and order.

Congress MLAs from Adarsh Nagar, Kishanpole Rafeek Khan and Amin Kagzi, also arrived at the location for a dialogue with the crowd and assist in defusing tensions.

FIR Filed Against BJP Leaders

“After a three-hour-long effort, the protesters lodged an FIR against the MLA and ended the protest. The crowd cleared the area gradually and peace was restored. However, the police force is still deployed in the area to keep a watch of the situation,” Singh added.

An FIR was lodged at the Manak Chowk police station against Balmukundacharya and other local BJP workers.

“Police pickets have been set up throughout the city, in the ramparts and sensitive areas of Jaipur. Three RAC companies, one STF and two regular companies have been deployed. All the officials are in the field and monitoring the situation… Legal action has been initiated in this case,” additional commissioner of police of Jaipur (Law & Order) Rameshwar Singh said.

Jama Masjid secretary Javed Pathan said, “The incident happened when we have been offering Namaz. He pasted those posters on the mosque stairs hurting our sentiments. However, we have appealed every one to maintain the peace in the area.”

</excerpt>

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on using bulldozers for demolitions, BJP MLA Sidharth Nath Singh welcomed the decision on Thursday, emphasizing that the Uttar Pradesh government had already been adhering to the defined legal procedure. The verdict mandates adherence to statutory guidelines before any demolition action is taken.

Singh stated that if someone engages in illegal construction, the government retains the right to demolish it, provided the proper legal procedure is followed.

“The Supreme Court stated that illegal constructions cannot be demolished arbitrarily. It outlined a procedure, and the UP government was already following it. If someone grabs government land and builds illegally, the bulldozer will act within the law,” Singh told ANI.

Supreme Court’s Directives on Demolitions

The Supreme Court, in its ruling on Wednesday, directed that no demolition should occur without issuing a prior 15-day show-cause notice to the property owner and following statutory procedures. The court also asserted that the executive branch cannot assume the role of a judge and unilaterally decide on the guilt of an accused person by demolishing their property.

“The executive cannot become a judge and decide that a person accused is guilty, and therefore, punish them by demolishing their residential or commercial properties,” stated the judgment delivered by Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan.

Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes BJP’s Bulldozer Politics

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government following the Supreme Court’s decision. He remarked that the court’s ruling would effectively curb the BJP’s aggressive use of bulldozers in demolitions, which has become a symbol of the government’s approach.

“The Supreme Court has commented against the bulldozer, which has become the symbol of this BJP government. I thank the Supreme Court for this decision against the government,” Yadav said at a rally.

The ruling has significant implications for the Yogi Adityanath government’s use of bulldozers in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in cases of alleged illegal constructions. The directive from the Supreme Court to follow due process has sparked mixed reactions, with BJP leaders defending their stance and opposition parties, like the Samajwadi Party, seizing the opportunity to criticize the state’s bulldozer policy.

This decision comes as part of broader judicial scrutiny over the executive’s use of force in demolitions, especially in politically charged contexts. The Supreme Court’s emphasis on legal procedures seeks to balance the government’s authority with individual property rights.

</excerpt>

In a satirical protest against the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, BJP MLA Ashish Sharma sent a box of 11 samosas to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, following an alleged CID inquiry over an incident involving samosas served at a government event. The protest comes amid criticisms of the state administration for allegedly prioritizing minor issues over pressing matters such as unemployment and state financial concerns.

Political Stir Over ‘Samosa Investigation’

The incident began on October 21, when CM Sukhu attended an event at the CID headquarters in Shimla. Reports indicated that samosas and cakes meant for the chief minister were mistakenly served to his staff instead. Following this, CID officials reportedly ordered an inquiry into the “mishandling” of the refreshments.

However, a CID senior official claimed that no formal inquiry was initiated, calling the incident an internal matter. Sharma took to social media to voice his concerns, saying, “At a time when Himachal is facing issues like unemployment and financial crisis, ordering a CID inquiry over samosas is disappointing.” He stated that sending the samosas was a symbolic protest to urge the government to address real issues.

BJP Youth Wing Joins the Protest

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’s youth wing, joined the protest, distributing samosas in Shimla and raising slogans against the state government. BJYM president Tilak Raj criticized the CID’s alleged focus on trivial issues, emphasizing that the state should instead prioritize addressing challenges like unemployment and rising drug use among young people.

Congress leaders, meanwhile, dismissed the BJP’s claims as political harassment. Naresh Chauhan, media advisor to the chief minister, clarified that no official inquiry was ordered, explaining that the situation was misconstrued. CID Director General Ranjhan Ojha reiterated that the matter was not a formal investigation, but merely

Growing Controversy Surrounding the Elections

The clash comes at a critical time as the area prepares for the Urban Cooperative Bank management committee elections. Tensions have been heightened by a letter from district BJP president Sunil Singh and MLA Yogesh Verma, requesting the postponement of the elections. However, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Sanjay Singh confirmed that the elections will proceed as scheduled. Allegations of tampering with the voter list have also emerged, with accusations that some individuals have torn the list.

</excerpt>

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj was seen holding the feet of Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta on Saturday in a bid to persuade him and other BJP legislators to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena regarding the reinstatement of bus marshals. This event occurred during a cabinet meeting called by Chief Minister Atishi in front of the BJP MLAs and bus marshals to discuss their appointments, but the BJP reportedly declined to meet with the LG.

In a video clip, Bharadwaj can be heard stating that the Delhi Chief Minister was inside Gupta’s car with civil defense personnel. AAP legislators urged Gupta not to leave and to attend the promised meeting with the LG alongside the cabinet note. When he refused, several AAP legislators, including Bharadwaj, bent down to touch his feet in an attempt to convince him.

The incident arose amid a dispute over the reinstatement of the bus marshals, who were dismissed in November 2023. Last month, the Delhi Assembly passed a resolution calling for their reinstatement in the national capital. It was agreed that both the AAP and the BJP would approach the LG on October 3 to request prompt action. However, the BJP MLAs did not fulfill their commitment, and the meeting did not occur as promised.

Bus marshals protested near Delhi LG’s office at Chandgi Ram Akhara, where some AAP legislators, including Saurabh Bharadwaj, were detained.

Gupta accused the AAP of staging a drama over the issue, denying claims that a proposal had been sent to the LG for the reinstatement of the bus marshals. “No Cabinet note has been prepared, and no Cabinet meeting has been called for the reinstatement of the marshals,” he asserted.

The AAP criticized the BJP for its perceived reversal on promises, while AAP legislators called on the LG to address the bus marshals’ concerns. AAP leader Sanjeev Jha commented on X, “Delhi Govt’s honourable Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj held the feet of Vijendra Gupta and said if you become great by holding my feet, then I will hold your feet; let’s go to LG sahab today itself and I will get you an immediate job of a bus marshal today itself.” He also shared images of Bharadwaj holding Gupta’s feet.

Shortly after, the BJP shared images of a meeting between LG Saxena and the bus marshals, stating that the LG had assured them their requests would be positively considered. “The LG met with a delegation of Bus Marshals today and assured them that their request would be given positive consideration. The meeting was arranged by State President Virendra Sachdeva,” the BJP posted on X.

BJP MLAs protested outside Delhi Vidhan Sabha on Friday over alleged government inaction on deaths due to the cold.
Citing a report from the Delhi Police, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said 203 homeless people have died on the streets of Delhi in one month.
“I think this matter should be referred to the privileges committee,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said.
“Assemblies learn from what happens in Parliament. In Parliament, AAP MP Raghav Chadha suggested the names of some people and he was suspended. It was said that he would remain suspended until the decision of the privileges committee,” the minister added.

Meanwhile, a cold wave has gripped Delhi and parts of NCR as the minimum temperature recorded was 6.8 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road on Monday morning by the Indian Meteorological Department.
As the temperature dipped in Delhi, people were seen sitting by the bonfire in a bid to keep themselves warm. People took refuge at a night shelter in AIIMS.

</excerpt>

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party’s Neiphiu Rio and National People’s Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma will take oath as a Nagaland and Meghalaya Chief Ministers respectively today in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President JP Nadda are likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony of both the Chief Ministers. Nagaland political stalwart and its longest-serving chief minister Neiphiu Rio is set to assume office for a fifth consecutive term after the convincing win.
Rio on Saturday had tendered his resignation as Chief Minister of Nagaland to Governor La Ganesan and staked claim to form the new government in the state.
The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-Bharatiya Janata Party retained power in the Nagaland election, with the two parties having secured 37 seats in the 60-member assembly.
Rio won the Northern Angami-II Assembly constituency, trouncing Seyievilie Sachu of the Congress by a mammoth margin of 15,824 votes. He bagged a total of 17,045 votes, which comes to 92.87 per cent of the total votes polled in the seat.
Notably, a history was scripted in Nagaland when the state elected its first women legislators in its 60 years of statehood.
The two women lawmakers – Hekhani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse of the ruling NDPP defeated the sitting MLAs in Western Angami and Dimapur-III seats respectively.
The Northeast state saw a triangular contest as Congress and CPI (M), which have been arch rivals for years, stitched a pre-poll alliance to defeat the ruling BJP.
In Meghalaya, the NPP-led alliance, with the support of 45 MLAs two of the BJP has staked claim to form the government in the state.
Among the allies, the eight cabinet berths will go to the NPP, two to the United Democratic
Sangma’s NPP won 26 seats in the Assembly elections and is all set to form the government and become the chief minister for a second consecutive term.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Bhawan in Shillong where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present.
Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma won from the South Tura constituency with a margin of 5,016 against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bernard N Marak.
United Democratic Party (UDP) bagged 11 seats in the results of assembly polls announced on Thursday. Congress won five seats. Trinamool Congress, which had inducted all Congress MLAs in the previous assembly, also got five seats.
BJP, People’s Democratic Front and Hill State People’s Democratic Party bagged two seats each. Voice of the People Party got four seats.
BJP and NPP were partners in the outgoing government but fought the assembly polls separately.

Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP, referred to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) “Gujarat model” as “hate and kill, then fete and reward” on Saturday after the saffron party fielded a Godhra MLA who defended the release of Bilkis Bano convicts and referred to them as “Brahmins with sanskar” for next month’s elections,

“Godhra MLA who called Bilkis case rapists & killers ‘Sanskari Brahmins’ is re-nominated by BJP. This is the Gujarat Model. Hate & Kill. Then Fete & Reward,” she tweeted.

Moitra is one of the petitioners who have asked the Supreme Court to reverse its decision to free the 11 rapists in the Bilkis Bano case. The matter’s subsequent hearing is slated for November 29.

In an interview with news outlet Mojo Story in August, days following the men’s release, BJP’s Chandrasinh Raulji made the comments. He served on the Gujarat government committee that decided to release the 11 criminals.

During the interview, Raulji was heard saying in Hindi that the rapists are “good people – Brahmins”. “And Brahmins are known to have good ‘sanskar’. It might have been someone’s ill intention to corner and punish them,” he said, adding the convicts showed good conduct during their time behind bars.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader Y Satish Reddy shared the video on Twitter and referred to the BJP as “the lowest a party can ever stoop” in response to the BJP MLA’s remarks.

Later, in an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Gujarat government, which is led by the BJP, defended its choice to release the criminals. The rapists had served 14 years in prison, according to the statement, and their “behaviour was found to be good.”

During the sectarian riots in Gujarat in 2002, Bano—who was five months pregnant—was raped and seven of her family members—including her three-year-old daughter—were slain. The 11 prisoners, who had been serving life sentences in the Godhra Sub-Jail, were freed on August 15.

Before the assembly elections in August 2017, Raulji defected from the Congress party to the BJP. Only 258 votes separated him from his former side as he won the elections on the platform of his new party. . Raulji had triumphed with a Congress ticket in the previous elections, which were held in 2007 and 2012.

A special MP/MLA court on Tuesday handed down a two-year prison term in a 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case to BJP legislator Vikram Saini and 11 other accused.

They were found guilty of rioting and other offences by Special Judge Gopal Upadhyay, who also fined them each Rs10, 000.

Due to a lack of evidence, the court freed 15 other accused in the case.

Saini, a BJP lawmaker from Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh, stated that he will appeal the verdict.

The MLA and others were held, and after providing two sureties totaling 25,000 for bail, they were released in order to go before the high court.

The 12 were found guilty under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with lethal weapons), and 149 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), as well as 353 (assault or criminal force to prevent a public worker from doing his duties) (unlawful assembly).

The National Security Act was also used to charge Vikram Saini.

A crowd was returning from the cremation of two Jat youths when the BJP MLA and 26 other accused were on trial for their involvement in the violence at Kawal village.

Communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and surrounding areas in August and September 2013 that claimed 60 lives and forced 40,000 people to flee their homes were started by the killings of two youngsters, Gaurav and Sachin, and one Shahnawaz.
