Locals call it ‘bulldozer justice’ as the accused later surrenders. Action followed the Deputy CM’s stern warning.
</excerpt>

In Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, authorities demolished the home and an eatery owned by a rape accused in a dramatic move that locals have likened to the “bulldozer justice model” seen in Uttar Pradesh. The action was carried out under police and administrative supervision on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

Police On The Matter

The accused had reportedly been on the run since the rape incident occurred in the Turki police station area of Kurhani sub-division. According to SP (Rural) Muzaffarpur, Vidya Sagar, the accused had been evading arrest until recently.
“We had attached the properties of the accused, who had been absconding ever since he raped a girl in the neighbourhood. Today, earth-mover machines were brought in and needful action was taken in the operation, which was led by Sub Divisional Magistrate (West) Shreya Shri,” said Sagar.

Following the demolition, the accused surrendered to the police. SP Vidya Sagar added, “The accused, who had been dodging the police, has surrendered. Further action will be taken as per directions of the court.”

The Situation In Bihar Surrounding This Incident

This crackdown came shortly after Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha visited Muzaffarpur and promised firm steps against the culprits in this case, as well as another one involving the sexual assault and death of a minor Dalit girl. These back-to-back incidents have sparked widespread outrage and criticism of the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government.

Locals in the area believe that this strong response by the administration sends a clear message. “The action against the accused should serve as a reminder to all those who have a propensity for committing heinous offences. They will not be able to escape the long arms of law,” Sagar added.

The incident has reignited debates around justice delivery, especially the increasing trend of using bulldozers as a symbol of swift punishment for serious crimes.

</excerpt>

In a shocking incident on October 1, 2024, seven children were injured—three of them critically—in an explosion near a garbage dump in the Khilafat Nagar locality of Bhagalpur, Bihar. The blast occurred around 12:30 PM while the children were playing outside, igniting immediate panic in the area.

According to police reports, the children stumbled upon a homemade bomb, which they accidentally detonated while playing. Witnesses described the explosion as powerful enough to be heard over a kilometer away, leading to chaos and confusion as families rushed to the scene. Local authorities quickly responded, with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bhagalpur, Anand Kumar, and other senior officers arriving at the site to assess the situation and investigate the incident.

The injured children were promptly taken to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital for treatment. While three of them sustained serious injuries, the remaining four suffered minor injuries. The swift action of the medical team and local authorities was critical in managing the situation, but the community is now left grappling with the aftermath of such a devastating event.

To further investigate the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, led by City SP K. Ramdas. The team will focus on collecting evidence and determining how the explosive device came to be in the vicinity. Forensic experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were also called in to gather samples from the explosion site, which could provide vital clues.

Local residents expressed their shock and concern over the incident. Mariyam, a mother of one of the injured children, recounted the terrifying moment: “I was inside the house when we heard a loud noise. We immediately rushed to the scene and found several children injured”. Such sentiments were echoed by others in the community, who are now questioning the safety of their surroundings and the presence of dangerous materials in their neighborhood.

This incident is not an isolated case; Bhagalpur has a history of bomb-related violence. In March 2022, a similar explosion led to multiple fatalities, raising ongoing concerns about public safety in the area. The current investigation aims to uncover not only the source of this particular explosive but also to understand the broader context of such dangers within the community.

</excerpt>

Patna: A 24-year-old man named Mohammad Shahzad died in police custody in Gaya district, Bihar. The incident occurred after he was beaten by residents who suspected him of attempted burglary. The police arrested Shahzad on July 6, following allegations from 4-5 residents that they caught him committing a burglary past midnight on Friday. Shahzad was thrashed by the group before being handed over to the police. He was charged with theft and breaking into a house based on a complaint by Prawin Khatoon.

Family’s Allegations

Shahzad’s father, Mohammad Iliyas, claimed that the people who caught and beat his son were responsible for his death. He accused the police of negligence, stating they did not provide timely medical care. Iliyas insisted that his son was falsely accused of theft and was actually on his way to his grandmother’s house when he was attacked. He said, “On July 6, they handed over my son to the police on the allegation of theft. My son died due to thrashing by the people and delay in treatment because of the police.” Iliyas also mentioned filing a complaint against the men who beat Shahzad, but no action has been taken.

Police Response

Gaya city superintendent of police (SP) Prerna Kumar refuted the allegations of negligence. She stated that Shahzad was taken to Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital when he complained of stomach pain, where he died during treatment. The SP mentioned that a medical board was constituted to conduct an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

Next Steps

The police await the postmortem report to take further action. The case continues to raise questions about the handling of suspects and the responsibilities of both residents and law enforcement in such incidents.

</excerpt>

A resident of Arrah, Bihar, has devised a novel plan to construct the first floating house on the banks of the Ganga in Buxar, with the goal of offering help to residents affected by floods every year.

Every year, floods devastate a big portion of Bihar. People migrate during floods, and when they return, they have no place to live or any means of subsistence.

Kumar Prashant, a resident of Bihar’s Arrah district, has devised a novel method to alleviate the hardships that people are experiencing in the aftermath of the floods. He has constructed a house that floats on water, allowing individuals to live comfortably with their families during floods.

“Every year people here have to face the wrath of the floods. There is a huge population that has to migrate due to floods and they lose 3 to 4 months every year. I have come up with an idea to build a house that is flood-resilient as well have solar equipment to generate electricity.

“We can build several houses in a similar manner so that the entire population of the village can be accommodated during the flood. This is an experiment for survival in water. I have tried to solve the problem using traditional and natural methods,” said Kumar Prashant

He further said, “I am building a prototype that will will have three rooms, and a bathroom and will be built at a budget of Rs 6 lakhs. In the coming one or two years my objective is to build a house that will float in water with a budget of Rs 2 lakh and will not sink. The house will also have space for farming and sheltering cattle.”

Prashant stated that the idea to design a flood-resistant house came to him after the huge deluge in 2019. He stated that building on the floating house had begun on Kritpura’s Ghat Ganga and that it will be completed within a month.

This house was built of cow dung, mud, and straw, as well as items such as empty paint and engine oil barrels.

</excerpt>

Ali Anwar, chairman of the All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz and a former JD(U) Rajya Sabha member, questioned the Bihar government’s decision to free murder suspect and former MP Anand Mohan Singh from prison on Friday, saying that the action sends the “wrong message” to “Dalits and backward Muslims.”

This comes after Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh walked free from Bihar’s Saharsa jail early Thursday morning, a move which was mandated following the amendment of the prison rules by the Bihar government allowing the release of 27 convicts including him.Ali Anwar said, “The decision has been taken by the Bihar government to release Anand Mohan from Jail gives the wrong message, especially among the Dalits and Backward Classes and Muslims”.

“I want to tell the Bihar government that if you have released Anand Mohan, then you should do a review for such prisoners who are in jail for small crimes, and because of no money are not able to present their case in the court through lawyers. Because of this, many people are facing imprisonment, and these people are poor, Dalits, backwards and Pasmanda Muslims,” he added.

Ali Anwar further urged the state government to review the jail rules for other backward and poor prisoners as well.

“When these Dons, especially people like Anand Mohan go to jail then many people serve them in better way, and whenever they have to come out, they easily get parol. But what about the poor and Dalit prisoners? That’s why I am demanding the to review the jail rules for them also,” he said.The All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz Chairman Ali Anwar also lashed out at the AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for mocking Bihar Chief Minister to release Anand Mohan from Jail and

“Owaisi himself is dancing to the tunes of BJP. He is the ‘Don’ of the old Hyderabad city. From, where does he get the moral right to talk like this.”

Owaisi recently said that “Nitish Kumar is roaming all over the country in the name of opposition unity and calling himself the prime ministerial candidate. You will tell Dalit community in 2024 that you let go of the person who killed a Dalit officer.”

Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh, who was serving a life sentence, was released from Saharsa jail on Thursday morning after being behind bars for 15 years.Singh was convicted for his role in the 1994 murder of the then Gopalganj collector G Krishnaiah during the funeral procession of Muzaffarpur gangster Chotan Shukla.

In a statement sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Dilip Kumar said, “We have started investigation and those involved in the assault would be arrested after identifying them.”

Kumar claimed that a Gopalpur police team went to Dimha village in connection with an investigation into a loot and arson incident the day before, and that the prime suspect in this case, Pradeep Mandal, allegedly provoked people to attack the police.

He stated that Pradeep Mandal is facing multiple criminal charges.
