JAIPUR: The Bhajan Lal Sharma-led government in Rajasthan has been in office for over a year and a half, and during this time, it has taken several major decisions. However, what truly stands out is that Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has understood the sentiments of the people of Rajasthan by launching a significant initiative—the ‘Vande Ganga Water Conservation Public Campaign’—to preserve water in the state.

This campaign, aimed at rejuvenating dried-up water sources, began at the historic Ramgarh Dam in Jaipur, where Sharma himself participated in shramdaan (voluntary labour) to kick off the effort. A crucial aspect of this initiative is the plan to link the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP)—which could prove to be a boon for Rajasthan—with the Ramgarh Dam.

The plan involves connecting it to the Isarda Dam to revive this once-thriving water body. Ramgarh Dam was once renowned for its natural beauty and utility. It provided drinking water to villages and hamlets spread over more than 800 square kilometres and supported irrigation for farmers. However, over time, encroachments in the dam’s catchment area increased, and people began to occupy the river streams that were its main water sources.

In 1981, Ramgarh Dam hosted the Asian Rowing Championships, putting it on the tourism map. But due to encroachments and neglect over the years, the dam has been reduced to a mere name in government records. Around 14 feet of silt has accumulated in the dam bed, destroying its original structure. Although previous governments attempted revival efforts, none succeeded. Now, Sharma has shown foresight by launching this campaign. He is not only monitoring progress but also visiting districts himself and assigning responsibilities to his ministers to ensure the effective implementation of water conservation efforts across the state.

Rajasthan is India’s largest state and is geographically located in an arid zone. A significant portion of it lies in the Thar Desert, where rainfall is extremely scarce. Rajasthan receives only 1.16% of the country’s surface water and 1.72% of its groundwater, despite being home to 5.67% of India’s population and covering 10.41% of the country’s land area. Groundwater has become the primary source of water supply in Rajasthan.

However, due to excessive exploitation, erratic and low rainfall, and a growing population, the groundwater table is steadily declining. Recognising this urgent crisis, the current government has made groundwater conservation a key priority. Due to the scarcity of surface water sources, there is a heavy reliance on groundwater in the state. Over-extraction has led to a continuous drop in water levels across various regions. This has not only worsened drinking water shortages but also severely affected agriculture.

Rapid population growth, agricultural expansion, increasing industrialisation, and urbanisation have caused a drastic rise in groundwater extraction. Data reveals the seriousness of the situation: according to the Central Ground Water Board, out of Rajasthan’s 302 blocks, 216 fall under the over-exploited (dark zone) category, 23 are critical, and 22 are semi-critical. Only 38 blocks (12.58%) are categorised as safe, while 3 blocks with saline groundwater were not assessed in the report. Back in 1984, when the first assessment of 236 blocks was done, 203 blocks were in the safe category and only 12 blocks were over-exploited.

This sharp deterioration highlights the gravity of the issue. To address this crisis, various groundwater conservation and replenishment measures are being implemented by both the state government and local communities. Among these, the Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan, launched on June 5, 2025, by the Bhajan Lal government, is being regarded as a milestone initiative. Local villagers recall that in their childhood, the Ramgarh Dam used to be brimming with water, and the fields were lush and green because of it. But large farmhouses and encroachments by land mafias destroyed the dam’s flow area.

Now, this government initiative has rekindled hope among the people. Villagers believe that if water returns to the dam, it will not only benefit farmers but also create employment opportunities for the youth.

</excerpt>

The Prime Minister in his Bikaner speech on Thurs- day said the money spent by the government to build infrastructure increases employment as well as business. Also, when this infrastructure is ready, the farmer’s produce reaches the market at a lower price, new industries are set up and tourism gets a boost.

He said that Rajasthan is also getting a big benefit from the work being done on infrastructure. Today, good roads are being built in every village and border areas of Rajasthan. Addressing Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma as the popular Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Modi said that the double engine government of the Centre and the State is working rapidly for the industrial development of Rajasthan. The work of Rajasthan’s refinery is also in the final stage.

This will make Rajasthan a major hub of petroleum based industries. Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will take industrial development in Rajas- than to new heights. Increasing electricity production is also giving new impetus to industrial development in Rajasthan.

The Prime Minister said that Bikaner will also get the benefit of new industrial policies issued by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s government for different sectors. The taste of Bikaneri Bhujia and the sweetness of Bikaneri Rasgullas will further increase its recognition across the world. He said that today itself, foundation stone and inauguration of schemes related to health, water and electricity have been done in many areas.

The only goal of all these efforts is that Rajasthan should move forward rapidly and the youth here should get good opportunities in their city itself. Prime Minister Modi said that more than 40 thousand people have joined the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme in Rajasthan.

Due to this, the electricity bill of the people has become zero and people have also got a way to earn by generating solar energy. Recalling the contribution of Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji who brought greenery to western Rajasthan, he said that water is needed for the development of many areas of Rajasthan.

For this, on one hand irrigation projects are being completed and at the same time rivers are also being linked. He said that many districts of Rajasthan will benefit from the Parvati-KalisindhChambal link project.

</excerpt>

The deadlock that had stalled and affected the Rajasthan assembly for the past six days was finally resolved on Thursday evening, following the intervention of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The Chief Minister played a pivotal role in ending the stand-off, prioritising the interests of the people of the state. On Thursday evening, Sharma personally reached the assembly and initiated talks with Leader of the Opposition, Tikaram Juli, in the Chief Minister’s chamber. The meeting, which also included Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, resulted in positive talks and resolved the deadlock.

Subsequently, Juli informed all Congress MLAs, who then returned to the assembly. In his address, Juli acknowledged that the controversy had been sparked by a remark made by a minister regarding Indira Gandhi. He thanked the Chief Minister for facilitating the talks and admitted that Congress leader Govind Singh Dotasra’s comment was inappropriate. Juli expressed his regret and offered an apology, marking the end of the deadlock and the resumption of normal assembly proceedings.

CM Emphasises Responsibility And Restraint In Assembly

Sharma, addressing the assembly, highlighted the importance of rules and regulations within the House. He emphasised that the most important rule is restraint, as the time of the House is valuable. Referring to the recent disruption in the House, which lasted for two to three days, he explained that despite calls to adjourn the proceedings, he insisted on keeping the session ongoing. He further added that the assembly is a space where the people of Rajasthan expect their concerns to be addressed.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that sometimes comments are made in the heat of the moment, and while many can tolerate such remarks, others might not. He stressed that with position comes the responsibility to manage one’s behaviour accordingly. He used the metaphor, “The tree with fruits is the one that bends,” to suggest that those in prominent positions must exhibit greater patience and understanding. Sharma concluded by stating that maintaining the House is a shared responsibility, not just of the ruling party, but of all 200 MLAs.

The Chief Minister advised both the ruling party and opposition to be mindful of the public’s perception of their representatives. He emphasised that if any member makes a wrong statement, they should reflect on it, as it would weigh on their conscience. He urged that every word spoken in the assembly should be carefully considered, as words can have a significant impact and should be chosen thoughtfully.

“The opposition is our strength,” the Chief Minister said.

“The entire incident happened in two or two and a half minutes that day. We did not get time, and everything happened.”

He also mentioned that if any of the opposition MLAs speaks well, he congratulates them.

“I had also called the Leader of the Opposition to tell him that you spoke well. We have to learn to call wrong, wrong.”

Will Ask Dotasra To Improve His Conduct: Devnani

On the whole episode, Devnani said that the incident was very serious and worrisome.

“I have never heard such words in my parliamentary life,” he stated.

He added that after the episode, he himself had been in touch with the Chief Minister and opposition leaders regarding the deadlock. He also said that if both parties form a committee, he had no problem cooperating. Devnani stated that the member, for whose words the Leader of Opposition has expressed regret, will also be asked to improve his conduct.

“We will ensure his conduct and discipline in the future. These comments are not forgivable, but trusting you, I say that this should not happen again so that the House runs smoothly.”

Chief Whip Brings Proposal To Reinstate Suspension

Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg advised that while fierce opposition is acceptable, there should always be room for reconciliation. He then proposed the withdrawal of the suspension of six Congress MLAs, including Dotasra. The proposal was approved, and following the end of the suspensions, the Leader of Opposition began his speech on the budget.

</excerpt>

The BJP government in Rajasthan has successfully reduced crime rates in the state, marking a significant drop in the number of registered FIRs. Over the past year, 20,000 fewer FIRs were filed compared to the previous year under the Congress-led government. This reduction highlights the impact of the BJP’s focus on law and order.

Decline In FIRs: A Mark Of Law And Order Success

According to data from the Rajasthan Police Headquarters, the Kota range topped the state in case disposal, followed by Banswara, Pali, and Udaipur in second place. Jaipur range ranked third. This efficient handling of cases has been credited to the leadership and monitoring of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who ensured strict measures against crime.

Swift Action And Immediate Case Disposal: Key To Crime Reduction

Under the leadership of the BJP government, Rajasthan has witnessed a significant improvement in law and order, with a sharp decline in crime rates. One key focus has been on the swift disposal of cases following the registration of FIRs. Emphasis was placed on immediate action, ensuring that cases were promptly investigated and resolved. The swift action taken against the criminals contributed significantly to reducing the overall crime rate in the state.

Government’s Firm Stance Drives Criminals Out

Jawahar Singh Bedam, Minister of State for Home Affairs, credited the efficiency of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for the improvement, highlighting his timely monitoring of administrative officers. Bedam emphasised that the government’s firm stance on crime has forced criminals to leave the state, helping to restore peace and security.

FIR Reduction: A Clear Indicator Of Progress

In 2023, under the Congress government, approximately 3.17 lakh FIRs were registered in the state. However, under the BJP government, this number dropped to around 2.97 lakh in 2024, showing a reduction of 20,000 FIRs. This decline reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

Improved Case Disposal And Reduced Pendency Rates

Despite the free registration of FIRs, the number of cases decreased, thanks to the government’s strict approach. Additionally, the police focused on quick justice, which helped reduce the pendency rate to less than 3%, a significant improvement from the previous year. The case disposal rate also improved, dropping from 20% to 17%. These efforts underline the BJP government’s dedication to ensuring a safer and more secure Rajasthan for its citizens.

He also directed to maintain all the records related to the players.

Incorporation Of Innovations In VAT And Excise Laws

Sharma directed the officials to incorporate innovations by studying the laws applicable in other states, in the context of the proposed VAT Act and Excise Law. Additionally, he directed that provisions should be added to the State Skill Policy to promote youth self-reliance. The Chief Minister emphasised that the goal is to empower youth by developing their skills, making the policy employment oriented.

Discussion On Key Policies And Schemes

</excerpt>

The first year of the CM Bhajan Lal Sharma has been quite successful despite the challenges he faced. Based on his performance and key decisions, Bhajan Lal Sharma has outshone the Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the first year.

A year ago, the BJP high command had made a bold move by appointing entirely new faces as Chief Ministers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. This decision sparked mixed reactions across the country. However, the most surprising choice came from Rajasthan, where the BJP selected Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA who rose from ordinary party worker to Chief Minister.

In contrast, Mohan Yadav in Madhya Pradesh and Vishnu Deo Sai in Chhattisgarh had prior government experience—Yadav had served as a minister in Madhya Pradesh, while Vishnudev had been a central minister.

Bhajan Lal Sharma, however, was the first Chief Minister in recent history to be appointed directly from the party organization. After one year, the BJP high command conducted a review of the work of these three Chief Ministers.

According to sources, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma’s performance has been more effective compared to his counterparts. While both the CMs in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh worked hard, Sharma stood out by effectively tackling challenges without prior experience, proving himself to be a strong leader. The BJP high command had made a bold decision to give fresh faces the opportunity to lead in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, rather than reappoint veteran leaders like Vasundhara Raje, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and Raman Singh.

The Sangh supported this move entirely, backing Bhajan Lal Sharma, Mohan Yadav, and Vishnudev Sai. This support led veteran leaders in these states to quickly accept the new decisions. Former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan took on a new role as the Union Agriculture Minister in Delhi, while Raman Singh in Chhattisgarh accepted the position of Speaker. In Rajasthan, former CM Vasundhara Raje was offered a position in Delhi but chose not to contest the Lok Sabha elections, remaining as the National Vice President in the party organization.
The murmurs began after the Lok Sabha results, as the party fell short of the expected number of seats in the state, leading to various speculations. One such rumor suggested that Vasundhara Raje might be made the national president. However, victories in Maharashtra and Haryana shifted the narrative. In Rajasthan, the party performed exceptionally well in the by-elections, which proved to be a turning point for CM Bhajan Lal Sharma.

His success in the by-polls boosted his confidence, as well as that of the high command. Having earned their trust, Sharma silenced his critics by making bold decisions. Whether it was the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit or the move to cancel 9 districts created during the Congress era, these decisions helped solidify Sharma’s strong image as Chief Minister in Delhi.

While many senior leaders in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh had already taken on their responsibilities, Bhajan Lal Sharma faced numerous challenges in Rajasthan. He had to manage the expectations of former CM Vasundhara Raje’s supporters, while also balancing the demands of prominent leaders in Delhi. Additionally, some ministers in the government were eager for the CM’s position. It can be said that Sharma’s challenges were greater than those faced by his counterparts. However, in the high command’s review, Sharma’s performance was considered more effective. He managed to curb the bureaucracy, listened to party workers and MLAs, and even made efforts to reach out to former CM Raje when the opportunity arose.

According to sources, Vasundhara Raje was offered the position of Governor during a recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma in Delhi. However, Raje reportedly declined the offer. Despite this, her supporters continue to hope that she will be appointed as the national president. The future role the high command assigns to Raje remains to be seen. The party is expected to appoint a new national president by the end of this month, and a new executive committee is likely to be formed in February. Additionally, a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet could take place during the budget session holidays.

</excerpt>

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has clarified his “circus” statement, emphasising that the public ultimately decides the effectiveness of any government. He expressed that his remarks about Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma were made out of concern for his welfare, noting Sharma’s frequent travels between Delhi and Jaipur. Gehlot pointed out that the initial impression of Sharma’s government among the public has not been positive.
“Today, Congress is discussed in every village thanks to our initiatives,” Gehlot said, suggesting that Sharma conduct a survey to gauge public sentiment regarding his administration. He emphasised that if Sharma seeks attention as chief minister, it is his responsibility to deliver benefits to the people.
“I have no intention of insulting him; my comments are not meant to be malicious,” Gehlot asserted.
He added that members of Sharma’s own party have described the situation as chaotic, likening it to a circus.
“The most important opinion is that of the people of Rajasthan, which is beyond anyone’s control,” he concluded.
Gehlot remarked on the political landscape, acknowledging that his party also faced election losses.
“What didn’t we say to form the government? After taking office, I urged the need to serve the people, especially in these challenging times. The public must benefit, and if the opposition raises concerns, they should be taken seriously as constructive feedback.”
He criticised the current government’s approach to opposition criticism, stating, “When I was in power, we didn’t send multiple ministers to counter every statement. These officials are too focused on responding to me instead of addressing the issues at hand.”
On the topic of inflation relief, Gehlot questioned the rationale behind discontinuing the inflation relief kits, stating, “What do the people of the state think? This government has been in power for only 8-10 months, yet they continuously blame the previous administration. What kind of governance is happening in every department? People are struggling to receive their pensions, and crucial dengue prevention measures are being overlooked.” He pointed out that many beneficial schemes from his tenure have been shut down.
“We initiated ration kits to provide relief during inflation, but now they’ve been discontinued. You can rebrand the initiative under your name, but why close a program that was helping the people? Many schemes are either being terminated or weakened,” he concluded.

</excerpt>

Madan Rathore, who was preparing to leave the party after being angry at not getting an assembly ticket, got everything in the last seven months, which he probably did not even expect. First Rajya Sabha ticket and now the command of the state. Actually, Rathore’s ticket from Sumerpur was cut in the 2023 assembly elections, even though he was an MLA for two times. Angered by this, he had prepared to contest as an independent. At the same time, Rathore received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. After talking to Modi, Rathore again started working for the party with full intensity. After this, he again got Rajya Sabha in February. By making Madan Rathore the state president, the party has also mastered social engineering while trying to give a message to its OBC voters. Rathore is considered close to Prime Minister Modi. This sent a message that PM Modi is now focusing on Rajasthan again.

When the BJP government was formed in Rajasthan after the assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interest in Rajasthan had diminished. There are discussions that the OBC face whom Modi wanted to make the CM in Rajasthan lost the election. After this, Bhajanlal Sharma, the choice of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, got the opportunity, but since then the situation of Rajasthan BJP started deteriorating.

The party did not pay attention to social engineering. Bhajanlal Sharma did not have enough experience to understand anything. In such a situation, Jats, Meenas and Gurjars got angry. Bureaucracy started dominating the state. Due to which the party suffered a major setback in the Lok Sabha elections. The result of ignoring the caste equation was that BJP lost 11 important seats out of 25. These 11 seats proved to be heavy for BJP. Congress may have lost the assembly elections, but it proved to be heavy on the new BJP. Till now, from the House to the road, Congress is seen to be dominating BJP on every issue. The pair of CM Bhajan Lal and CP Joshi flopped badly. Now Prime Minister Modi has given the responsibility of party’s ‘captain’ to Madan Rathore, who has RSS background and is experienced. It is being understood that this will give strength to the party. Rathore has experience of organization, along with that he has good relations with all the factions.
The first challenge before Rathore is to keep the party united. The effect of changing Arun Singh, who was the party in-charge till now, will also be seen. Arun Singh himself had become the party in Rajasthan. After Radha Mohan Das Agarwal was made the in-charge, it is expected that all the factions will now be heard. Factionalism in Rajasthan is not hidden from anyone. Former CM Vasundhara Raje is angry because of her son. Despite being the most senior, Raje’s son Dushyant Singh did not get a place in Modi 3.0. Raje is still considered very strong. A large number of MLAs are with her. As far as former state president Satish Poonia is concerned, he is looking after the responsibility of Haryana as the in-charge in the organization. Raje and Poonia are said to be in good tuning with both Rathore and Agarwal. It is expected that the duo of Rathore and Agarwal will now perhaps be able to unite the scattered BJP so that it can compete with the Congress.

Meanwhile, the party has retained Vijaya Rahatkar on the post of co-incharge. Be it the assembly elections or the Lok Sabha elections, wherever she was given responsibility, she lived up to it. This is the reason why Rahatkar, who is also known as ‘Tai’, has not been removed by the party. Her role in the party is like that of a guardian. She is associated with all the leaders and workers of the party, starting from Bhajanlal Sharma. That is why the party has once again expressed trust in her.

</excerpt>

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has instructed a comprehensive investigation into the recruitment processes for state employees over the past five years, following allegations of fraudulent activities related to obtaining government jobs.

In an official statement, the government revealed that certain individuals have allegedly secured positions by submitting counterfeit educational documents and employing proxy candidates to take exams on their behalf. This has prompted the state to launch a thorough review of all recruitments conducted during this period.

“The state government has been informed that in the recruitments made across various departments over the past five years, some candidates have obtained government jobs by presenting fake educational qualification documents and using dummy candidates to sit for the exams,” the order states.

It further states, “Given the seriousness of the issue, each department is required to establish an internal committee to determine whether the individual who took the exam and the person employed as a public servant are the same individuals for employees recruited in the past five years.”

Furthermore, a meticulous examination of the recruited employees’ educational qualification documents, application forms submitted during the application process, as well as their photos and signatures, will also be conducted.

“After the investigation, information regarding employees whose recruitments appear suspicious should be forwarded to the SOG,” the order specifies.

</excerpt>

The Energy Minister of Rajasthan, Hiralal Nagar, has instructed all officers and staff of the Electricity Department to guarantee a continuous power supply throughout the state in light of the increasing demand for electricity brought on by heatwaves. He underlined the necessity of having enough electricity to satisfy the growing demand and of quickly resolving any outages. Officials were also told to make sure that departments were working together and to keep a close eye on efforts to resolve power outages during the summer. In order to guarantee a steady power supply during peak hours, some precautions must be taken.

Speaking to ANI, Nagar explained the reasons behind the inconveniences and outages. He highlighted efforts to meet additional demands, noting that a previously non-operational 1500 MW power plant would soon become functional. Nagar stated, “In view of the rising electricity demand, we have cancelled leaves and instructed officials not to leave the headquarters without prior notice to meet the demands and ensure smooth power supply. We have informed them regarding the need to ensure uninterrupted power supply over the state, especially in rural areas.” He added that the electricity demand has surged by 20% due to severe heatwaves and soaring temperatures.

“We are monitoring the situation continuously. To meet the adequate demands, we are purchasing electricity from other states and in upcoming days we are reopening our power plant with a capacity of generating 1500 MW,” Nagar told ANI.

Taking a swipe at the previous administration, Nagar said, “Due to the negligence towards the energy sector by the previous Ashok Gehlot government, the common man is facing hardships today. But our government is making continuous efforts and improvements in this sector to provide relief to the residents.”

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma instructed Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Power Distribution Corporation officials to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and regular drinking water. He directed that helpline numbers be widely circulated and that all complaints be resolved promptly and within a specific timeframe. Control rooms were also to be established and monitored at district and state levels.

The Public Health Engineering Department has set up a control room to address all drinking water-related issues. Complaints can be registered at 0141-2222585. Power complaints can be lodged via helpline numbers operated by various discoms or on the BijliMitra app.
