Experts remain divided, and more research is needed to confirm the claims.
</excerpt>

A strange new trend is taking over TikTok, with users eating dirt to improve their health. Dubbed “crunchers,” these individuals claim that consuming small amounts of dirt can help with gut health, skin conditions, and even weight loss.

The trend has gained momentum in the U.S., with social media influencers like fertility coach Stephanie Adler promoting the practice. She believes that the microorganisms in organic soil can enhance gut health.

The Claims Behind Dirt Eating

Advocates of the trend, including Adler, argue that organic soil contains trillions of microorganisms beneficial to the human gut microbiome. In a TikTok video, Adler said, “One teaspoon of organic biodynamic soil has more microorganisms than there are humans on Earth.”

Edible clay and soil products have also surfaced on e-commerce sites like Amazon, with sellers claiming benefits ranging from anti-aging effects to balancing skin oil production. Products are sold in various forms, including powders and clay chunks, and range in price from ₹900 to ₹2,200.

Health Benefits: Is There Science Behind It?

Some scientific research supports the idea that soil could improve health. A 2019 study noted that soil plays a critical role in shaping the human gut microbiome, potentially aiding digestion and boosting immune function. Historically, the practice of geophagy—eating earth—has been used as a detoxifying agent and for medicinal purposes.

Other studies suggest that compounds in dirt may even help combat obesity by absorbing fat from the body. Additionally, experts from the University of Helsinki found that exposure to natural soil could improve skin health by promoting a balanced microbiota.

Is It Safe? Experts Remain Divided

While the practice has sparked debate, many health professionals urge caution. Although some studies highlight potential benefits, more research is needed to fully understand the risks and long-term effects of eating dirt. Critics argue that unregulated consumption of soil could expose individuals to harmful bacteria or toxins.

Conclusion: A Trend to Watch

As the trend continues to grow on TikTok, it’s essential for users to be mindful of the potential risks. While dirt eating may offer some health benefits, the practice remains controversial and requires more scientific investigation.

Javed revealed that she once applied an antiseptic liquid to her face, resulting in severe burns. “I woke up, mera poora face jal gaya tha (my entire face was burnt),” she recounted, explaining that she had used the antiseptic to tackle a breakout. The burn marks lingered for 15-20 days, causing her significant distress.

Javed also admitted to using a toilet cleaner to whiten her teeth, explaining, “My teeth were really yellow, and I saw it can clean the toilet so well. I was like let me try and oh my God the sensitivity… I was f***d.” This experience led to severe discomfort and sensitivity.

The Risks of Household Products

Dr. Swetha Sridhar, a consultant dermatologist at Dr. Dixit Cosmetology Centre, emphasizes the dangers of using household cleaning products for personal care. She explains that antiseptic liquids, like the one used by Javed, contain chloroxylenol, which is effective against bacteria but unsuitable for skin application. “Using it on the face or any sensitive skin area can cause chemical burns, severe irritation, redness, blistering, and peeling,” Dr. Sridhar warns. Such products can damage the skin’s natural barrier, leading to dryness, cracking, and possible infections.

Similarly, toilet cleaners, which often contain harsh chemicals like hydrochloric acid, are extremely dangerous for oral use. “These chemicals can cause immediate chemical burns to the gums, tongue, and other soft tissues in the mouth,” Dr. Sridhar says. Ingesting even small amounts can lead to severe gastrointestinal damage and potential long-term harm.

Safer Alternatives

For acne treatment, Dr. Sridhar recommends over-the-counter options such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinoids. “Benzoyl peroxide helps kill acne-causing bacteria, while salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and clears clogged pores. Retinoids can prevent pore clogging and reduce inflammation,” she advises. Using a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser is also crucial for acne-prone skin.

For teeth whitening, she suggests using whitening toothpastes with mild abrasives and chemical agents like hydrogen peroxide. “Whitening mouthwashes can also help with gradual improvement,” Dr. Sridhar notes. For more significant discoloration, professional treatments like in-office whitening or dental veneers are safer and more effective. Regular brushing, flossing, and natural remedies like baking soda or activated charcoal toothpaste can also aid in removing surface stains but should be used with caution to avoid enamel abrasion.

Dr. Sridhar concludes, “Regular dental care and consulting with professionals for persistent issues can ensure safer and more effective results.”

</excerpt>

The monsoon season can be a nightmare for our hair, with humidity and rain causing frizz, damage, and hair fall. But fear not! With the right products, you can keep your locks looking healthy and beautiful even in the midst of the monsoon chaos. I tried some hair care products that transformed hair and here’s how you can amp up your monsoon hair care routine too!

Repair with a Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo
As the monsoon season approached, I knew I needed a shampoo that could detox and repair my hair. That’s when I discovered the K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo. This miracle worker removed product buildup and impurities from my hair and scalp in just one wash, leaving my tresses soft and cleansed. Its unique K18 peptide complex fortified my damaged hair fiber, and the salicylic acid and activated charcoal work together to remove excess oil, product buildup, and water mineral deposits from the hair and scalp.

Fix My Curls Moisture Melt Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
Dry, damaged hair is a common problem during monsoons but the Fix My Curls Moisture Melt Deep Conditioning Hair Mask came to the rescue. With 8 magical oils and shea butter, it replenished and revived my hair, leaving them soft and manageable. It is perfect for dry, damaged, and chemically treated hair and can be used once a week to replenish and revive your hair, leaving it soft, moisturized, and full of life. The vegan-friendly product is also free of harsh chemicals, making it perfect for those with sensitive scalps.

Grow Hair with Plum Rosemary & 3% Redensyl Serum
Monsoons mean hair fall and being a long hair girlie, I love my hair way too much! To reduce my hair fall and boost hair texture and growth, I turned towards Plum’s Rosemary & 3% Redensyl Hair Growth Serum. This serum is vegan, natural, and free of toxins-which I absolutely love! With 3% Redensyl, 1% Rosemary, 4% Anagain, and 3% Baicapil, this serum worked wonders for my thinning tresses and helps boost new growth and blood circulation. I applied this serum twice a day and can’t wait to make it a part of my long-term hair routine!

Revive Hair with an Océglow Anti-Hair-Fall Mask
With constant rain and humidity, hair fall became a major concern for me during the monsoon. I tried out the Océglow Anti-Hair-Fall Mask, and trust me, it restored my hair’s density and quality. Magic ingredients of the mask are Redensyl, Capilia Longa, Baicapil, and Anagain which rebuild each fiber and leave my hair feeling soft and moisturized. This mask penetrated to rebuild each fiber, sinking in seamlessly to restore from the inside out, giving me a salon-like wash.

Hydrate, Seal, and Finish with Hair Mists
To end my hair care routine, I opted for the Hair Mist by Fix My Curls, which added the perfect finishing touch to dull manes. From warm vanilla to floral bouquet and crystal aqua, these mists are perfect for any hair type and concern. This is perfect for adding a fragrant, glossy, hydrating touch to your hair care routine and can be used on both dry and damp hair, providing long-lasting hydration and fragrance. What I loved is that they were perfect for refreshing my hair throughout the day, especially during the monsoon when humidity can be high.

In an interview with ANI, Mira Kapoor shared her thoughts on bridal fashion. Reflecting on her own wedding in 2015, where she chose a pastel pink lehenga over the traditional red, Kapoor emphasized the importance of selecting a timeless and personal bridal outfit. She said, “I felt magical. You should look happy and choose something you’ll love 25 years from now, something you can pass down to your daughter or daughter-in-law. It’s about heritage, legacy, and tradition, so it should be timeless.”

For the show, Kapoor wore a breathtaking blue bridal ensemble featuring long layers and detailed sequined embroidery. The modern touch came from a chic bib and bralette top, paired with minimal makeup, a sleek ponytail, and a delicate choker necklace.

Monica, co-founder of Jade, discussed how bridal couture is evolving. She stated, “Bridal couture isn’t about trends; every bride should feel special in a color that suits her and matches the wedding setting.”

Kapoor also noted a shift in bridal fashion, observing that brides now prioritize their own happiness. “It’s wonderful to see brides focusing on what makes them happy,” she remarked.

</excerpt>

In the quest for glamorous, manageable hair, many turn to chemical treatments. These methods offer transformative results but also require careful consideration to maintain hair health. Here’s a comprehensive guide to understanding different types of chemical hair treatments, current trends, and essential tips for keeping your locks both stylish and in good condition.

Types of Chemical Hair Treatments

Perms: Short for permanent waves, perms use chemicals to alter the hair’s natural structure, creating curls or waves. Modern perms come in various forms, including digital and acid perms, allowing for customized results based on hair type and desired curl intensity.

Relaxers: Designed for those with curly or coily hair, relaxers chemically straighten hair by breaking down the natural curl pattern. They come in two main types: lye and no-lye relaxers, each with its own set of benefits and potential side effects.

Hair Coloring: This encompasses a range of techniques from permanent and semi-permanent dyes to highlights and balayage. Hair coloring involves applying pigments to the hair shaft, and the choice of product can significantly impact the final result and hair health.

Keratin Treatments: These treatments smooth and straighten hair by applying a keratin-based formula that coats the hair shaft. They are popular for reducing frizz and adding shine, though their effects can vary depending on the formulation.

Straightening Treatments: Beyond relaxers, other straightening treatments like Japanese straightening and Brazilian blowouts offer long-lasting straight hair by using different chemical processes to alter the hair structure.

Current Trends in Chemical Hair Treatments

Customized Formulations: Tailoring treatments to individual hair types and concerns is becoming increasingly popular. Salons now offer personalized formulations for perms, relaxers, and colors that cater specifically to the client’s hair condition and desired outcome.

Sustainable and Less Damaging Options: There’s a growing demand for eco-friendly and less damaging chemical treatments. Many brands are now offering formulations with fewer harsh chemicals and added nourishing ingredients to minimize damage.

Multi-dimensional Coloring: Techniques such as balayage and ombré continue to dominate, offering more natural-looking color transitions and depth. These methods create a dynamic, sun-kissed effect and often require less frequent touch-ups.

Reversible Treatments: Newer technologies are focusing on treatments that can be easily reversed or adjusted, providing flexibility for those who want to change their look frequently without long-term commitment.

Tips for Maintaining Healthy, Stylish Hair

Choose Quality Products: Opt for high-quality, salon-recommended products to minimize damage. Investing in good shampoos, conditioners, and treatments can significantly improve hair health and extend the life of your chemical treatments.

Regular Conditioning: Chemical treatments can strip hair of natural oils, so using deep conditioning masks regularly is crucial. Look for products designed to restore moisture and strengthen the hair.

Avoid Heat Damage: Excessive use of heat styling tools can exacerbate damage from chemical treatments. Use heat protectants and try to limit the use of flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers.

Gentle Handling: Be cautious when brushing or combing hair, especially when it’s wet. Use a wide-toothed comb or a brush designed for fragile hair to avoid breakage.

Regular Salon Visits: Schedule regular appointments with your stylist to assess the condition of your hair and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Professionals can provide tailored advice and address any concerns that arise.

Protect Your Hair: When swimming or spending time in the sun, protect your hair from chlorine and UV damage. Wearing hats or using protective sprays can help maintain color and prevent further dryness.

Chemical hair treatments can offer incredible versatility and style options, but they come with the responsibility of proper maintenance. By understanding the types, staying updated on trends, and following essential care tips, you can enjoy beautiful, healthy hair that turns heads for all the right reasons.

</excerpt>

Kanjeevaram sarees, renowned for their rich textures and intricate designs, are a prized possession in South Indian culture. These luxurious garments are celebrated for their craftsmanship and the quality of silk used. However, with the growing popularity of Kanjeevaram sarees, it’s essential to know how to identify an authentic piece to avoid counterfeit products. Here’s a detailed guide to help you distinguish a genuine Kanjeevaram saree from imitations.

1. Understand the Fabric

The hallmark of an authentic Kanjeevaram saree is its high-quality silk. Genuine Kanjeevaram sarees are made from pure mulberry silk, which is smooth, lustrous, and has a distinct sheen. To test the silk quality, rub a small section of the fabric between your fingers. Genuine silk will feel cool and smooth, and will usually have a slight natural sheen.

2. Check the Weave

The weaving technique used in Kanjeevaram sarees is intricate and complex. Authentic sarees feature a heavy and dense weave with elaborate patterns. Look for the traditional zari (gold or silver thread) work, which is usually woven into the fabric rather than printed or embroidered on top. The border and pallu (the end of the saree) should be distinctly woven, often with contrasting colors and patterns.

3. Examine the Borders and Pallu

The borders of a genuine Kanjeevaram saree are typically wide and elaborate, often featuring intricate designs such as peacocks, temples, or floral patterns. The pallu should display rich, elaborate designs and be woven in the same fabric as the rest of the saree. Authentic Kanjeevaram sarees have a consistent pattern and color throughout the fabric, with no discrepancies or mismatches.

4. Look for the Kanjeevaram Mark

Many authentic Kanjeevaram sarees come with a certification or tag from the Weavers’ Association of Kancheepuram. This tag is often found on the edge of the saree and verifies its authenticity. It’s a good idea to look for this mark or ask for certification when purchasing a Kanjeevaram saree.

5. Analyze the Weight

Genuine Kanjeevaram sarees are heavier than their counterfeit counterparts due to the high-quality silk and the dense weave. The weight of a Kanjeevaram saree is an important indicator of authenticity. If the saree feels unusually light, it might not be a genuine Kanjeevaram.

6. Observe the Color and Dye

The dye used in authentic Kanjeevaram sarees is vibrant and lasts long without fading. Check the color consistency throughout the saree. Genuine Kanjeevaram sarees use natural dyes that are deeply absorbed into the fabric, ensuring a rich and enduring color. Faded or inconsistent coloring can be a sign of a counterfeit product.

7. Price Point

While not a definitive indicator, the price can provide some clues. Genuine Kanjeevaram sarees are often priced higher due to the quality of silk and the labor-intensive weaving process. Extremely low prices may be a red flag indicating that the saree is not authentic.

8. Buy from Reputable Sellers

To ensure that you are purchasing an authentic Kanjeevaram saree, buy from established and reputable sellers or stores known for their authenticity. Trusted sellers often provide certification or guarantees of authenticity.

By keeping these factors in mind, you can confidently identify a genuine Kanjeevaram saree and invest in a timeless piece of traditional Indian craftsmanship. Whether you’re a collector or simply looking to add a classic saree to your wardrobe, these guidelines will help you make an informed choice.

</excerpt>

Henna has deep cultural significance in India, where it is traditionally used by women during weddings and festivals. This plant contains lawsone, a natural dye that binds well with hair keratin. Henna serves as a natural alternative to conventional permanent dyes, which often include harmful ingredients for both health and the environment.

Beyond its role in providing plant-based hair color, henna offers a multitude of benefits. Rich in tannins, lipids, nutrients, and other essential compounds for hair health, it naturally detoxifies hair from roots to tips. By deeply penetrating the scalp, henna conditions, strengthens, and revitalizes the hair. Its effects are further enhanced when mixed with other natural ingredients such as Amla and Brazilian herbs like juá, malva, and guaraná.
Natural hair care is essential for maintaining beautiful, long, and healthy hair. Detoxifying with henna helps keep hair revitalized, shiny, and in optimal condition. It’s crucial to avoid chemical products mixed with henna, such as heavy metals, PPD, resorcinol, and aggressive synthetic dyes, as well as shampoos and conditioners containing sulfates, synthetic fragrances, ammonia by-products (ethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine), EDTA, parabens, and other harmful ingredients.

Though some find the application of henna confusing and time-consuming, henna cream is now widely available with convenient applicators. These creams, often enriched with organic plant extracts from diverse regions and combined with nourishing oils like babassu, offer both hydration and color.

Henna creams are among the most natural and effective options for hair coloring and can be found in a variety of colors. They color hair without drying or damaging it, providing a comprehensive treatment from root to tip. By avoiding harsh ingredients such as ammonia, ammonia by-products, EDTA, synthetic fragrances, PPD, resorcinol, heavy metals, and parabens, these creams maintain hair’s health and beauty throughout the year.

Investing in treatments that hydrate and nourish your hair, such as those enriched with henna, rice protein, babassu oil, and cupuaçu butter, ensures longer-lasting color and protection from UV rays. These treatments offer reconstructive, nourishing, and hydrating benefits, providing essential nutrients to restore hair fiber, enhance shine, and strengthen your hair.

</excerpt>

Are you tired of dealing with sparse, uneven, or shapeless eyebrows? Do you struggle with daily brow makeup routines? Eyebrow microblading treatment is here to revolutionize your brow game! In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the world of microblading, exploring its benefits, procedure, etc.

Eyebrows are the game changers when it comes to face shaping. Sharp, shaped, and identical brows not only accentuate your facial features but also give you a more youthful appearance. One revolutionary procedure that has transformed the world of eyebrow enhancement is microblading, also known as permanent brows or eyebrow tattooing. This cosmetic procedure involves implanting fine, featherweight, hair-like strokes using a blade with very tiny needles to give the illusion of natural hair.

Benefits of Eyebrow Microblading
Microblading is a miraculous solution for people with scanty, scarred, or uneven brows. It can be life-changing for those suffering from conditions like alopecia and cancer, who may experience significant hair loss. The results are semi-permanent, lasting between one to two years, depending on skin type and skincare routine. Some of the benefits of Microblading are as follows:

Long-lasting results: Microblading can last up to 2 years, saving you time and effort in your daily beauty routine.
Natural appearance: The hair-like strokes mimic the look of real eyebrows, creating a seamless and authentic appearance.
Customisable: Microblading allows for tailored shaping and filling to suit your individual features and preferences.
Minimally invasive: The procedure is relatively painless and doesn’t require significant downtime.

Microblading Process
Consultation: The process begins with a thorough consultation where the aesthetician discusses your desired brow shape, colour and thickness. This step is crucial to ensure that the final result complements your facial features.
Mapping: Next, the aesthetician will map out your new brows using precise measurements to create a symmetrical and natural look. This step often involves drawing the desired shape on your skin with a removable pencil.
Numbing: To ensure a comfortable experience, a topical numbing cream is applied to the brow area. This minimizes any discomfort during the procedure.
Microblading: The actual microblading involves using a handheld tool with tiny needles to deposit pigment into the skin. The aesthetician creates fine, hair-like strokes that mimic the natural growth pattern of your brows.
Aftercare: Proper aftercare is vital for the best results. You’ll be given specific instructions, which may include avoiding water, sweating, and certain skincare products on the brow area for a specified period.

Choosing the Right Aesthetician
It is crucial to select an aesthetician with the right skills and experience before undergoing any permanent makeup procedure. Choosing the wrong professional can result in disastrous outcomes that are difficult to reverse. Here are some tips for finding the right aesthetician:
Research: Look for aestheticians with good reviews and a portfolio of their work.
Certifications: Ensure they have proper certifications and training in microblading.
Consultation: Don’t hesitate to ask questions and express your concerns during the consultation.
In conclusion, Eyebrow Microblading is an excellent option for anyone looking to enhance their brows and achieve a more youthful appearance. By choosing the right aesthetician and following proper aftercare, you can enjoy beautiful, natural-looking brows that last for years. If you’re considering this transformative procedure, Dermalyn offers the expertise and quality you need for stunning results.

A: Microplastic is a liquid polymer or synthetic polymer that is widely used for viscosity and increased shelf life purposes. It is inexpensive and readily available.
A few examples of microplastics are Phthalates, Parabens, Cadmium, Triclosan, Sulfates, Toluene, Talc, PEG, Formaldehyde, and Diethanolamine. Microplastic leaves equal negative impact on skin and health as on the environment.

2. As the skincare industry is really very vast what’s the one change you would like to implement?
A: Stop the use of microplastics! Not because we have a brand La Pink but because
of the severe health impacts it is leaving behind directly or indirectly.
Researchers at the New York University School of Medicine used mass spectrometry to measure the concentrations of PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
and PC (polycarbonate) in feces samples from six infants and 10 adults, as well as three samples of newborn babies’ first stool and in all samples, microplastic fibres were found. PC levels were about the same in adults and babies but the PET levels were about 14 times higher in babies. We are already on our mission to spread awareness about microplastics with our ongoing campaign #SayNoToMicroplastics and will be taking the help of our honorable Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi to accomplish this and make India 100% Microplastic Free.

3. Can you share your journey and how you started La Pink
A: “If it wasn’t for my father’s ambitious vision, I wouldn’t have taken a step to find the gap in the beauty industry and introduce a 100% microplastic-free formulated range of products!” That’s true! I was engaged with the functioning of the Marvel group when my father Mr. R.C. Jain came up with the idea of launching a skincare brand. He proposed to bring a revolutionary shift in the market or else it would be yet another skincare brand. After two years of multiple formulations and research, we found a perfect combination of nature and science: 100% Microplastic-free natural products. One of the initial formulators said, “Microplastic is not a revolutionary concept and it will be lost in the market within 6 months of its launch!” This statement did develop a few questions among us but thanking my Europe trip in 2018 that supported our collective vision of bringing 100% microplastic-free formulated products to the Indian market where everything is marketed based on the ingredients. I was inspired by the European consumers as they were educated and had taken steps to boycott the use of microplastics. Today, even Indian consumers are smart and make informed decisions, but they will also be researching about particular things when they know about them. And that was it, we knew what we had to do and brought a whole range of 100% Microplastic Free Formulations that no one is doing in India.

4. What has inspired you throughout this journey?
A: My consumers, the positive response from different marketplaces, and my employees who I call my work family. What once started as a dream project has now become a collective vision of people at La Pink.

5. What are your future plans for the brand?
A: We are going to expand our range of products and make them more accessible by entering quick commerce, same-day delivery, and experience stores in India. We are also planning to expand ourselves globally and we shall share the news soon!

</excerpt>

As a makeup enthusiast, I always prefer products that not only enhance my features but also feel like a treat to use. And well, I am a total blush girlie! Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez has been on my radar for a while, and I finally got my hands on their products which are now exclusively available on Sephora in India.

I started with Rare Beauty’s classic blushes and here’s my personal take on these beauties.
The Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush in ‘Love’ was the first one I tried. The warm terracotta hue instantly reminded me of those cozy autumn days. The pigmentation was a pleasant surprise – just a little dab was enough to give my cheeks a deep red flush. I wore it for a night out, and it stayed put and glowed through the entire evening, saving me from any touch-ups.

Next, I tried the Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush in ‘Truth’. This pretty pink shade was perfect for my everyday makeup look. It blended so smoothly into my skin, giving me a radiant shine and finish that lasted all day. I received several compliments, for how healthy my skin looks and that I am glowing – but guess what – this rare flushy glow was courtesy Rare Beauty!

The Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush in ‘Hope’ was the perfect everyday choice for me. The silky shiny nude color was totally in my comfort zone and I decided to give it a go for work. It added a fun pop of shine to my look and stayed vibrant throughout the hot and sweaty Delhi days!

The Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes in ‘Hope’ and ‘Love’ were a new experience for me. I was initially skeptical about the liquid thick formula, but it turned out to be a game-changer. The lightweight texture blended like a dream, giving me a dewy, natural finish. ‘Hope’ was a dewy nude mauve berry-shade that added a warm nudy touch to my look, while ‘Love’ was a warm, matte red-terracotta that felt like a liquid version of the powder blush I fell in love with. I loved how Love added a touch of bronzed drama and made my cheeks all poppy and elevated.

The colors, the formulas, and the longevity of these blushes have made them a staple in my makeup routine. While I don’t mind the beautiful, natural glow these blushes add to my looks, I can’t wait to try more products from this brand!

The vitamin C will boost the collagen production which will keep your skin more elastic and help prevent wrinkles.
</excerpt>

Everyone seems to be on the hunt for the ultimate anti-ageing remedy, with a plethora of ‘superfoods’ and products flooding the internet. From exotic berries to trendy supplements, the market is teeming with options that claim to unlock the secret to a youthful glow.

Surprisingly, one of the potential champions in this arena might be the humble mango. Health coach and content creator Digvijay Singh advocates for the inclusion of mangoes in the diet for those looking to maintain a youthful appearance.

He states, “A midsize mango will fulfill 50 to 60 percent of your daily vitamin C requirements. The vitamin C will boost the collagen production which will keep your skin more elastic and help prevent wrinkles.”

But is this claim backed by science?

Dr. Twincy Ann Sunil, a clinical dietician at Apollo Spectra Hospitals in Bangalore, supports the notion that mangoes have anti-ageing benefits. “The quest to slow down ageing and maintain youthful vitality has led to significant research into various natural fruits and foods, including mangoes. Mangoes, often referred to as the ‘king of fruits,’ are celebrated not only for their delicious taste but also for their impressive nutritional profile.”

She explains that mangoes are packed with several bioactive compounds that exhibit anti-ageing properties, including:

Antioxidants: Mangoes are rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E. Vitamin C is known to promote collagen production, which is essential for maintaining skin tightness and reducing signs of ageing like wrinkles and sagging skin. Vitamin A also aids in skin cell regeneration, helping to maintain a youthful complexion.

Mangiferin: This unique polyphenol found in mangoes is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potentially anti-cancer properties.

Carotenoids: Mangoes contain significant amounts of carotenoids, including beta-carotene and zeaxanthin. Beta-carotene aids in skin renewal and provides protection against UV damage.

Phenolic Compounds: Potent antioxidants such as gallic acid, quercetin, and ellagic acid are present in mangoes. These compounds work to eliminate free radicals, which can damage cells and accelerate the ageing process.

Exploring how these compounds affect cellular processes related to ageing, Bharat Naidu, a coach and nutritionist at MultiFit, explains, “Antioxidants like vitamin C and beta-carotene swoop in to neutralise free radicals, the notorious troublemakers responsible for cell damage and accelerated ageing. Meanwhile, polyphenols such as mangiferin and quercetin orchestrate an intricate dance of anti-inflammatory actions, calming the storm of chronic inflammation that often accompanies ageing. Additionally, certain compounds in mangoes have been shown to bolster DNA repair mechanisms, safeguarding our genetic blueprint from the ravages of time.”

Comparison of mangoes to other fruits or foods known for their anti-ageing effects reveals that while mangoes may not receive as much attention as berries or pomegranates, they offer a rich supply of antioxidants and polyphenols in a tasty package.

“Anthocyanin-rich blueberries are especially wonderful for the brain and for decreasing oxidative stress. While mangoes also provide antioxidants, blueberries might be more potent in terms of brain health,” asserts Dr. Sunil.

Green tea is rich in catechins which are very powerful antioxidants. Mangoes provide a different array of antioxidants, making them complementary rather than superior. Avocados, rich in healthy fats, support skin health and hydration, says Dr. Sunil.

Pomegranates are renowned for their strong anti-ageing properties, primarily because of their high polyphenol content, including punicalagins and ellagic acid.

“Mangoes, with their unique blend of mangiferin, carotenoids, and vitamins, provide a complementary set of anti-ageing benefits,” Dr. Sunil elaborates.

</excerpt>

One of the infamous lakes on India includes the ‘Dal lake’ of Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. The lake is surrounded by rich and fertile soils including the ‘black soil’ making it a tourist attraction. People from around the world visit the lake to witness its beauty but also for the ‘black oil’ found here.

The black soil is said to have many skincare benefits, some of them are:

Natural Exfoliation: Black soil may contain fine particles that can act as a natural exfoliant. Gently scrubbing the skin with black soil may help remove dead skin cells, promoting a smoother complexion.

Mineral Enrichment: Black soil is often rich in minerals and organic matter. These minerals can nourish the skin, potentially improving its texture and overall health.

Absorption of Toxins: Certain types of soil, including black soil, have the ability to absorb toxins. Applying a paste of black soil on the skin may help draw out impurities, providing a detoxifying effect.

Improved Circulation: Massaging the skin with black soil may stimulate blood circulation. Enhanced blood flow can contribute to a healthy and vibrant complexion.

Balancing Oil Production: Black soil’s mineral content may help balance the skin’s oil production. This can be beneficial for individuals with oily or combination skin, promoting a more balanced complexion.

Skin Hydration: The organic matter in black soil may contribute to skin hydration. It can help retain moisture, preventing dryness and promoting a supple appearance.

Antioxidant Properties: Some soils contain natural antioxidants that can protect the skin from environmental damage. These antioxidants may help combat free radicals, contributing to anti-aging effects.

While these potential benefits are interesting to consider, it’s important to note that using soil directly on the skin may have risks, such as the presence of contaminants or allergens. Before attempting any skincare routine involving natural substances, it’s advisable to conduct a patch test to ensure compatibility with your skin and to consult with a dermatologist for personalized advice.
