Obama and Bush say the dismantling is dangerous and tragic. Bono joins the farewell, calling aid workers “the best of us.”
</excerpt>

USAID officially shut down on Monday, marking the end of the United States’ primary global aid agency after 60 years. In an emotional virtual farewell, former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush joined Bono to denounce the agency’s dismantling ordered by the Trump administration.

Thousands of USAID employees tuned in to the private call, which included praise, grief, and anger over the agency’s closure. USAID had long supported global health, food security, education, and democracy efforts. Now, it’s being absorbed into the State Department under a new initiative called “America First.”

Obama called the USAID closure “a colossal mistake,” saying the agency’s humanitarian efforts would echo for generations. “Gutting USAID is a tragedy,” he said. He credited it for saving lives and growing international partnerships that helped U.S. economic interests.

Bush criticized cuts to his PEPFAR program, which provided HIV treatment worldwide. “Is it in our national interest that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is,” he told workers. Both leaders honored staffers whose work helped countries lift themselves from poverty and disaster.

Trump had previously labeled USAID a “radical left lunatic” agency and Elon Musk called it “criminal.” Critics say this rhetoric led to abrupt mass firings and blocked system access for workers.

Wearing shades and a cap, Bono surprised attendees with a heartfelt poem. He honored aid workers as “secret agents of international development” and directly condemned the decision to dismantle USAID. “They called you crooks. When you were the best of us,” he said.

He also referenced starving children, warning that many could die due to the loss of USAID funding. During the farewell, a UN food official broke down in tears while vowing that the U.S. aid mission would eventually return. Meanwhile, former world leaders from Liberia and Colombia joined the call to highlight USAID’s decades of life-saving work in conflict zones.

Now, the State Department plans to launch a new oversight agency later this week. However, critics warn that it may never match the global reach or credibility that USAID built over sixty years of service.

</excerpt>

A massive fire destroyed a historic $8.6 million mansion close to former US President Barack Obama’s home in Washington, DC. The fire occurred early Tuesday morning in the Kalorama’s posh neighborhood. It destroyed the three-story English manor-style house that was being renovated. The incident drew extra attention given its proximity to Obama’s residence.

Firefighters had already responded to a smaller fire at the property hours earlier. One firefighter was injured after he fell into an elevator pit while responding. Officials report the first fire was of electrical origin. The second blaze, which became a two-alarm fire, was fought by more than 125 firefighters.

Two Blazes, Hours Apart

The initial blaze erupted at about 9:30 pm, Monday. The firefighters moved fast and kept it within the first floor. DC Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly confirmed that it was caused by an electrical fault. The crews cleared the area, but this was just the beginning.

About 6 am Tuesday, a second and much more severe fire broke out. This time, fire engulfed the entire building. Smoke poured across the neighborhood, leading to neighborhood evacuations and a mass emergency response.

Massive Firefighting Operation

Authorities sent around 125 firefighters and 30 units to the scene. The response levelled up to a two-alarm fire. Firefighters fought the fire for hours, employing ladders and aerial streams to strangle the flames.

During the operation, a firefighter fell into an elevator shaft. The fall triggered a mayday alert, sending rescue teams into immediate action. Fellow firefighters pulled him to safety and rushed him to the hospital as a precaution.

Ongoing Investigation

Officials confirmed the mansion was being renovated during both blazes. The cause of the second blaze is under investigation. Authorities will investigate whether it’s related to the electrical problem that prompted the first.

This has drawn safety concerns in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood. It also highlights the dangers firefighters are exposed to during structure fires—particularly in older buildings that are being repaired.

The fact that the property is close to the Barack Obama‘s home has generated public interest. Official word came, however, that the former president and his family were not in danger.

</excerpt>

Former U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive type of prostate cancer, prompting a flood of quick recovery wishes. In a statement, Biden’s office said doctors had identified a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) and that the cancer had already advanced to the bones. As bad as the disease is, it seems to be hormone-sensitive, which, as explained in the statement, “permits effective control.” The Biden family now considers possible treatment options.

A Rare Display of Bipartisanship

In an unusual display of bipartisan support, American politicians across party lines—Democrats and Republicans alike—quickly took to social media to voice concern and offer solidarity with the 82-year-old former president. Amid rising political tensions, this moment served as a rare instance of unity and compassion.

US President Donald Trump, who has frequently ridiculed Biden’s mental capacity, put aside political differences. In a post on his Truth Social website, he stated, “Melania and I are saddened to learn of Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We send our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family and wish Joe a quick and successful recovery.”

Former President Barack Obama, for whom Biden was Vice President, also offered support. On X, he posted, “Michelle and I are sending our thoughts to the whole Biden family. No one has done more to identify breakthroughs in cancer treatment in every form than Joe, and I have no doubt he will battle this challenge with his characteristic determination and dignity. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.”

Biden’s Cancer Advocacy Legacy

Biden’s diagnosis carries personal significance. In 2015, after losing his son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer, he went on to establish the Cancer Moonshot program—an ambitious attempt to cut cancer fatality rates in half and enhance patient outcomes. Since then, that effort has become a notable benchmark of his public service record and a reflection of his ongoing passion for combating cancer in all forms.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who assumed the Democratic presidential nomination after Biden dropped out of the 2024 campaign, chimed in as well. “Joe is a fighter — and I know he will meet this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hoping for a full and speedy recovery,” she posted to X.. “We are holding him, Dr. Biden, and their whole family close in our hearts and prayers during this moment.”

A Nation’s Prayers

Other high-profile political leaders showed solidarity as well. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commented, “I’m thinking of the Bidens as they face cancer, a disease they’ve done so much to try to keep other families from suffering. Wishing you a speedy, full recovery.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also said, “President Joe Biden is a great American patriot. Paul and I join the millions around the nation and across the globe praying for him to have strength and a quick recovery in the fight against cancer. Sending love to him and his family.”

</excerpt>

Barack and Michelle Obama were spotted together for the first time since December 2024 on a Washington, DC, date night.

A fellow diner caught the couple exiting a private dining room and walking down a staircase in a video taken at Osteria Mozza, an Italian eatery.

Obamas Receive a Warm Reception from Diners

Cheered to their feet, customers watched the Obamas make their way through the packed restaurant, Page Six said.

As reported by the Daily Mail, a number of restaurant customers were heard exclaiming: “Oh my God” while the audience cheered. “They will always be my President and First Lady,” one fan wrote on the viral video. Another commented, “Love that spot,” while the fourth one said, “They are always there.”

The Obamas were spotted smiling and waving outside their go-to restaurant in D.C, allaying speculation that their marriage was on the rocks.

Michelle Obama’s Visits and The Restaurant’s Popularity

Aside from Barack’s visit in January, Michelle has previously dined at the high-end “California-style Italian” eatery. She threw a Christmas dinner for her staff of ten in November, two weeks following the opening of the Georgetown neighborhood restaurant. The restaurant has since become a favorite of the couple since opening in 2024. Just about five months prior to this visit, the couple was previously spotted together in the restaurant during December.

Michelle Obama Responds to Divorce Speculation in Her Podcast

Michelle’s no-show at Donald Trump’s inauguration and Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January fueled questions about their marriage.

The former first lady spoke about the divorce rumors during a new interview with actress Sophia Bush for an episode of her podcast, Work in Progress.

“That’s what I believe is the hardest thing for women to do: let people down,” she said. “So much so that people this year assumed that my husband and I were divorcing because they couldn’t even comprehend that I was making a decision for myself.” “That this couldn’t be an adult woman making her own decisions, could it?”

</excerpt>

Former US President Barack Obama has openly praised Harvard University for resisting pressure from the Trump administration to dampen student activism. In a strong statement on social media site X (formerly Twitter), Barack Obama praised the university for maintaining academic freedom and refuting what he termed as “unlawful” and “ham-handed” government requests.

“Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions – rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking concrete steps to make sure all students at Harvard can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope other institutions follow suit,” Obama wrote.

The threat follows the Trump administration’s holding up federal grants worth $2.2 billion and freezing $60 million in multi-year contracts to Harvard University as a punishment for not agreeing to a list of proposed reforms that aim to sustain its financial relationships with the federal government.

Trump Administration Demands Sweeping Changes

In a letter addressed to Harvard on Friday, the Trump administration made sweeping demands that included leadership and governance changes, race-neutral hiring and admissions, the abolition of all DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs, and international student admissions reforms to “prevent admitting students hostile to the American values.”

Harvard turned down these demands in total, saying that these reforms would undermine the institution’s autonomy and trample constitutional rights.

University’s Firm Response

“They include requirements to “audit” the viewpoints of our student body, faculty, staff, and to “reduc[e] the power” of certain students, faculty, and administrators targeted because of their ideological views. We have informed the administration through our legal counsel that we will not accept their proposed agreement,” Harvard stated in a letter released on Monday.

The university reiterated that the administration’s demands infringe on its First Amendment rights and are beyond the federal government’s authority under Title VI.

In response, the Trump administration froze all outstanding federal funds and condemned the university’s position, saying, “Harvard’s statement today reinforces the troubling entitlement mindset that is endemic in our nation’s most prestigious universities and colleges- that federal investment does not come with the responsibility to uphold civil rights laws.”

As the stalemate persists, meanwhile, Harvard’s defiance has reignited national discourse regarding academic freedom, student protest, and federal control over academia. 4o mini

</excerpt>

In a surprising shift from White House tradition, President Donald Trump has replaced the official portrait of Barack Obama with a dramatic painting of himself depicting the moment after he survived an assassination attempt last summer.

The newly installed painting, created by artist Marc Lipp and donated by Andrew Pollack through the Blue Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida, now hangs in the State Floor foyer—an area typically reserved for portraits of the two most recent former presidents. The image captures the tense aftermath of the July rally shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was wounded in the ear and defiantly raised his fist, proclaiming, “fight, fight, fight!”

That phrase became a defining slogan in Trump’s successful reelection campaign.

The White House acknowledged the change in a post on its official X account, writing, “Some new artwork at the White House” alongside a photo of the painting and a pair of eye emojis.

Obama’s portrait, which had occupied that prime position since its unveiling in 2022, has not been removed entirely. Instead, it has been relocated to the opposite wall—formerly occupied by the portrait of George W. Bush. According to officials, Bush’s portrait will now be moved near the staircase alongside that of his father, George H.W. Bush.

Marc Lipp, described by Blue Gallery as “a Modern Pop Art [artist] who translates his love for art through paintings and sculptures,” created the original canvas that now sits in one of the White House’s most visible locations. Donor Andrew Pollack, a prominent school safety advocate, lost his daughter Meadow in the 2018 Parkland school shooting.

This move adds to Trump’s pattern of breaking with protocol. Traditionally, sitting presidents host their immediate predecessors for portrait unveilings. Trump, however, did not invite the Obamas for such a ceremony. </excerpt>

Former US President Barack Obama criticized Donald Trump’s new tariffs and federal budget cuts, threatening that America’s democratic principles are under threat. In a speech at Hamilton College in New York, Obama called on Americans to make their voices heard and stand ready to sacrifice for their fundamental values. His speech came in the wake of Trump’s comprehensive tariff announcement and mounting pressure on US universities over student protests and free speech.

Obama Slams Trump Tariffs as Recession Looms

Trump’s tariffs shook Wall Street. Markets plummeted, and economists predicted a coming recession. Obama vehemently opposed the action, saying it puts an unfair burden on working-class Americans. His concerns extended beyond the economic implications, though.

For much of our lives, it’s been convenient to claim that you believe in free speech or social justice and not suffer a consequence,” Obama said. Now, he warned, Americans are going to have to be willing to actually take risks to stand up for what’s right. “It’s up to all of us to repair this,” he added. “The citizen, the ordinary person who says: ‘No, that’s not right.'”

Universities Under Political Pressure Over Speech

Obama also denounced Trump’s warning to reduce federal funding for colleges that do not support conservative agendas. He indicated that the government is putting pressure on schools, particularly on issues involving student protests and campus speech.

He named Columbia, Harvard, and Princeton specifically—universities that are now under federal audit. At the same time, the government has moved against pro-Palestinian demonstrators. “If you’re just being intimidated,” Obama said, “then say: ‘That’s why we have this big endowment.'”

He urged universities to stand firm on their principles. They must resist political intimidation, even if it comes at a cost. “It’s not enough to say you’re for something,” Obama concluded. “You may have to do something.”

Ultimately, Obama’s speech wasn’t just a critique. It served as a warning—and a powerful call to defend the soul of American democracy.

</excerpt>

The ex-President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, is devoting more time with his wife Michelle Obama to compensate for the tension his presidency created in their union. In a candid discussion with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, the 63-year-old shared the experience of how his two White House terms affected his life.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” Obama confessed. “So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by occasionally doing fun things.”

The Obamas, who have marked 33 years of marriage, have long spoken openly about the strains they endured during Barack’s presidency. Long hours, public attention, and the stresses of the job all wore down their relationship.

In a 2023 CBS Mornings appearance, Barack Obama commented on how life is different since stepping down from the presidency.

“Let me just say this: It sure helps to be out of the White House and to have a little more time with her,” he said.

Michelle Obama has also spoken candidly about the challenges in their marriage. In an open interview with Revolt TV, she confessed that there was a period when she had to deal with her husband’s absence because of his presidential responsibilities.

People assume I’m being catty, saying this — it’s like, there were 10 years when I hated my husband. And guess when it was? When those kids were little,” she said.

The pair, whom they met at a law firm in the late 1980s and were married in 1992, have two daughters, Sasha and Malia. They have had much to talk about over the years about keeping their marriage steady through the downs and ups amidst raising a family in the light of public limelight.

In her memoir and interviews, Michelle also disclosed that they had once gone to marriage therapy, and there were some times when she hoped things were different.

“But I don’t think I ever thought, ‘I’m just checking out of this,'” she said in 2018.

Now that there is more private time outside political life, the Obamas seem committed to deepening their connection and welcoming a new chapter in their marriage.

With Michelle’s absence from public events and Barack Obama’s solo appearances, fans wonder if she will address divorce rumors.
</excerpt>

Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson are to introduce a new weekly podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson, this month. In an AP press release, it has been explained that the podcast will discuss “everyday questions shaping our lives, relationships and the world around us.” Since Michelle’s disappearance from the spotlight and Barack Obama’s numerous solitary appearances, fans are wondering whether the former First Lady will respond to persistent divorce rumors.

Star-Studded Guest List

The podcast will have a star-studded guest list, featuring actors Issa Rae and Keke Palmer, psychologist Dr. Orna Guralnik, and directors Seth and Lauren Rogen. Other guests include soccer legend Abby Wambach, authors Jay Shetty, Glennon Doyle, and Logan Ury, editor Elaine Welteroth, and radio host Angie Martinez. Media mogul Tyler Perry, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, and celebrity pair Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union will also be making an appearance. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky will also be appearing.

Spotify’s Take on the New Podcast

Spotify has characterized the podcast as a place where Michelle and Craig will share their distinct viewpoints on everything from politics to pop culture, providing real advice and real stories. “Each week, they’re joined by special guests to tackle audience questions with practical advice, relatable anecdotes, and plenty of laughs.
Will Michelle Obama Address Divorce Rumors?

Fans have been waiting with bated breath to know whether Michelle will discuss her marriage on the podcast. Michelle has been missing from public appearances in recent months, while Barack Obama has been seen alone on at least three occasions. These sightings created rumors about their relationship, and rumors even went around about Barack’s supposed affair with Jennifer Aniston. Nevertheless, even though they do not share public appearances very often, Michelle and Barack have exchanged loving social media posts to one another during their birthdays and Valentine’s Day.

Michelle Obama Discusses Divorce – But Not Her Own

The New York Times quotes that Michelle had indeed talked about divorce in the initial two episodes of the podcast. But what she was talking about was her brother Craig Robinson’s divorce from his wife Janis Robinson in 2000. The sibling pair also spoke about Michelle’s marriage to Barack Obama but made no references to any existing marital problems in the former First Couple.

As IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson premieres, audiences will get a closer look into the duo’s candid perspectives on life, relationships, and challenges, making it a must-listen for fans and followers alike.

</excerpt>

Former US President Barack Obama is facing new complications surrounding the construction of his long-planned Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, following allegations of racial discrimination by a black-owned subcontractor.

The South Side-based company II in One, run by the contractor Robert McGee, filed a federal lawsuit this month claiming his firm was subjected to excessively rigorous inspections and unfair treatment by one of the major construction firms involved, Thornton Tomasetti. The lawsuit also seeks nearly $40 million in reimbursement for construction-related costs.

McGee claimed that Thornton Tomasetti put II in One under too much examination and documentation requirements, greatly affecting production and ultimately causing a financial loss. He also alleged that the firm targeted his company unfairly while being more lenient to non-minority-owned contractors.

However, Thornton Tomasetti denied the allegations, saying that the delays and cost overruns were caused by the poor performance and lack of experience of II in One. The company claims that it has spent hundreds of hours reviewing, analyzing, and correcting the work done by McGee’s firm, which it says has resulted in numerous problems in the construction process.

The Obama Foundation has also been vocal on this issue, responding to the accusations by spokesperson Emily Bittner, who commented that if the foundation believed a vendor was working with racist intentions, it would have acted very promptly. Emily added that based on what the firm did, Thornton Tomasetti’s work did not have racial intent.

Obama has gone on record saying he will utilize as much local labor and local contractors, as well as minority-owned businesses, to build the center. The current legal fight is just one in a string of issues surrounding this project: delayed construction, overruns, and even complaints that the proposed site is in an inappropriate location.

Why 22nd Amendment Change Won’t Benefit Obama

<excerpt>Rep. Andy Ogles proposed a constitutional amendment to allow Trump a third term, despite the low chances of success. The amendment would alter the 22nd Amendment to permit non-consecutive terms. However, it won’t apply to previous presidents like Obama or Bush.
</excerpt>

Rep. Andy Ogles, a close ally of Donald Trump, proposed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution on Thursday that would allow the president to serve a third term, extending his time in the White House until 2033, when Trump would be 86 years old.Because this proposed change to the 22nd Amendment would not pass Congress nor be ratified by the needed 38 states, this is a non-starter.

As a matter of law, the 22nd Amendment currently limits presidents to two terms in office. Trump served from 2017 until 2021 and, given his recent win in the election of 2024, is already eligible for a second term. He became the second president, following Grover Cleveland, to win non-consecutive terms after defeating Kamala Harris.

According to Ogles, Trump should be allowed to serve a third term so that the country “can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.” This will, however, not benefit past presidents like Barack Obama and George W. Bush, among others. Any president serving non-consecutive terms will benefit from this proposed amendment, whereby the person is permitted to serve for a third term. The amendment reads: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

So far, no response has come from the White House to Ogles’ proposal.

Bush during Donald Trump’s inauguration, revealing Obama’s humorous remark, which has sparked curiosity and amusement online.
</excerpt>

A viral clip of former U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony has sparked curiosity online. The brief conversation between the two former leaders, which took place as Obama entered the Capitol Rotunda, was interpreted by Jackie Gonzalez, a hearing-impaired lip reader known for decoding celebrities’ and politicians’ private exchanges on social media. Gonzalez’s interpretation has captured widespread attention and amusement from viewers.

Obama’s Alleged Greeting and Comment to Bush

In the footage, Obama can be seen making a comment and sharing a laugh with Bush shortly after taking his place among the former presidents at the dais. According to Gonzalez’s lip-reading interpretation, Obama first greeted Bush with a friendly “Good to see you” before thanking the crowd. He then turned to Bush and, in a joking manner, allegedly said, “How can we stop what’s happening.” The exact meaning of this remark remains unclear, and it is not certain if Obama was referring to Trump’s second term in office.

Social Media Reactions to the Lip Reader’s Claims

While we cannot independently verify the claims made by Gonzalez, the viral video has stirred amusing reactions from social media users. One user commented, “It looks like that’s what he said, but only they know. I wouldn’t be surprised though.” Another user noted, “Would not be surprised. Possibly the same question has been asked multiple times before.” Others pointed out that if Obama indeed made the comment, it seemed like a lighthearted joke, especially considering the context of the inauguration.

Obama’s Solo Attendance at the Ceremony

Obama attended the inauguration ceremony alone, as his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, chose to skip the event. No official reason was given for her absence. Additionally, Michelle Obama did not attend the funeral service for former President Jimmy Carter the previous week, marking her absence as the only one among living former presidents and first ladies.

Notable Absences at Trump’s Inaugural Lunch

In addition to Michelle Obama’s absence, all three former presidents—Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton—opted out of attending Trump’s traditional inaugural lunch, further fueling speculation about their political relations with the new administration.

</excerpt>

A video showing President-elect Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama in a seemingly casual conversation during the state funeral of ex-President Jimmy Carter has taken the internet by storm. The moment captured on January 9 showed the political rivals seated next to each other in Washington, sparking curiosity about their exchange.

Lip readers and experts attempted to decode the dialogue between Trump, a Republican, and Obama, a Democrat, revealing fragmented snippets of their conversation. According to some claims, Trump referenced “conditions” and suggested finding “a quiet place” to discuss an important matter. While these interpretations intrigued many, they remain unverifiable.

Trump’s Social Media Twist

On Tuesday, Donald Trump gave the viral moment his signature satirical spin by posting a dubbed version of the video on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. The altered clip features fake voiceovers for both leaders with lighthearted background music.

In the parody, Trump initiates the conversation with, “Barack, very nice to see you,” to which Obama humorously replies, “Congratulations. How you doing?” The dialogue escalates into comedic banter about Trump’s recent presidential victory and light digs at Hillary Clinton, his 2016 opponent.

Trump even mocks Clinton, suggesting, “Hillary still hates me so much. I know she’ll never forget me.” The video ends with both leaders humorously contemplating a follow-up meeting.

The Real Exchange Remains Unclear

Despite the humor, lip readers noted some fragments from their real conversation, though they could not be independently verified. Trump himself later commented on the interaction, saying, “I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do.”

Donald Trump, 78, is set to be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, adding to the significance of his lighthearted take on the video.

The moment highlighted an unexpected side of the political adversaries and offered a rare glimpse of camaraderie—real or imagined—amid the intense political landscape.

</excerpt>

In a surprising moment, former President Donald Trump and Barack Obama were captured sharing lighthearted laughs during former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral at the Washington National Cathedral. Vice President Kamala Harris, seated nearby, observed the exchange, appearing intrigued by the unlikely camaraderie.

The interaction, caught on camera, quickly went viral, sparking reactions on social media. Many expressed astonishment at the friendly banter between two leaders known for their political rivalry.

Rare Interaction Amid Political History

The gathering for Jimmy Carter’s funeral brought together a distinguished list of attendees, including former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Their exchange of pleasantries came as a surprise given Obama’s vocal criticism of Trump, describing him as a danger to democracy and accusing him of promoting fake news. Despite their political differences, the two leaders shared a moment of connection that captured public attention.

Kamala Harris Observes the Exchange

Vice President Kamala Harris, sitting a row ahead of the duo, turned back briefly to glance at Trump and Obama’s interaction. While she remained silent, her expression seemed to convey curiosity about the unexpected display of camaraderie.

First Lady Melania Trump was seated alongside her husband during the exchange. Meanwhile, other interactions among attendees, including those involving Harris and Trump or Biden, were notably minimal.

Honoring Jimmy Carter’s Legacy

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, passed away on December 29 at the age of 100. The ceremony highlighted his lifelong commitment to peace, human rights, and unity.

During the service, Carter’s son, Chip Carter, paid a heartfelt tribute:
“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love. He brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

</excerpt>

India is in mourning following the death of its former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions. Dr. Singh was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi after experiencing a sudden loss of consciousness at his home on December 26, 2024.

Dr. Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Singh, and their three daughters. His legacy, however, extends far beyond his family. As a renowned economist and statesman, Dr. Singh played a pivotal role in shaping India’s economic transformation. His tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 was marked by significant economic reforms that lifted millions of people out of poverty.

Former US President Barack Obama, in his memoir “A Promised Land,” paid tribute to Dr. Singh’s exceptional leadership, describing him as a “man with uncommon wisdom.” Obama praised Dr. Singh’s commitment to economic reform, the well-being of the Indian people, and his unwavering integrity. He noted that Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister proved him to be “wise, thoughtful, and scrupulously honest.”

Dr. Singh’s policies significantly impacted India’s economic scenario, promoting growth, reducing poverty, and enhancing access to education and healthcare. Notable initiatives during his government included the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and the Right to Information Act.

Despite facing criticism during his period of service, Dr. Singh remained optimistic about his legacy. In his last press conference as Prime Minister in January 2014, he expressed confidence in history’s judgment, stating, “I honestly believe that history will be kinder to me than the contemporary media, or for that matter, the Opposition parties in Parliament.”

As India bids farewell to this visionary leader, his remarkable contributions to the nation’s growth and development are remembered. The legacy of Dr. Manmohan Singh will continue to inspire future generations of leaders and policymakers, and his impact on India’s history will be remembered for years to come.

Throughout the day, he engaged with voters by sharing their stories and thanking them for making their voices heard.

Conclusion

With the voting currently underway, Obama’s call to action serves as a reminder of the critical role every individual plays in the electoral process. Former President Barack Obama expressed pride in her decision, highlighting that she wants audiences to view her work without any association to the Obama name.
</excerpt>

Malia Obama, who debuted her first film “The Heart” at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, has chosen to use the name “Malia Ann” as she builds her Hollywood career. Barack Obama shared his pride in her decision on the “Pivot” podcast, saying, “Her first film went to Sundance and all these fancy film festivals and she didn’t use Obama as a director on the credits.” He admitted he initially warned her that audiences would recognize her regardless, but Malia was firm about letting her work stand independently.

Malia’s decision aligns her with other celebrity children who prefer not to leverage their parents’ fame, including Suri Cruise, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, and Elle King. Prior to her film debut, Malia gained experience interning on HBO projects and working with Donald Glover on his Amazon Prime series “Swarm”.

Reflecting on her independent spirit, Obama shared that both Malia and Sasha are focused on forging their own paths, even resisting input from him and Michelle. “Our challenge,” he noted, “is that they hardly want us involved. They’re very sensitive and quite stubborn about it.” Despite the increased paparazzi attention, Malia remains grounded, he added, and focused on creating a career apart from her family’s legacy.

With support from notable figures like Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Springsteen, the rally aimed to galvanize turnout ahead of the election, highlighting the community’s diversity and resilience.
</excerpt>

Closing Arguments in Clarkston

Vice President Kamala Harris joined former President Barack Obama for their first campaign appearance together, focusing on Black voters in Atlanta’s eastern suburbs. Speaking at a rally in Clarkston, Harris emphasized the importance of fighting for the future while addressing key issues like drug prices, housing costs, and grocery expenses. “I come from the middle class, and I will never forget where I come from,” she asserted.

Healthcare and Abortion Rights Take Center Stage

Harris highlighted her commitment to healthcare as a fundamental right and criticized former President Trump for his attempts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, including rolling back the $35 cap on insulin prices. She also reaffirmed her stance on abortion rights, referencing the tragic death of Amber Nicole Thurman, a Georgia woman whose death was linked to the state’s abortion ban. “Donald Trump still refuses to acknowledge the pain and suffering he has caused,” Harris said, pointing to how women are being denied care during miscarriages.

Strengthening Outreach to Black Voters

While some pollsters claim that Harris’s support among Black male voters has declined, Democratic activists reject this notion, arguing that the concerns are exaggerated. Senator Raphael Warnock noted that while there may be some dissent, “we know who Donald Trump is.” The campaign has intensified its focus on Black voter outreach, with high-profile appearances from actors Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, and Tyler Perry. Perry shared his personal journey from poverty to success, underscoring Atlanta’s role in his rise.

Clarkston, known for its rich diversity, drew a crowd of approximately 20,000 attendees, filling the James R. Hallford Stadium to capacity. The rally highlighted the community’s significance, with Congressman Hank Johnson noting that “fifty different countries are represented” among residents. As Georgia experiences a surge in early voting, Harris’s campaign is actively mobilizing supporters to ensure high turnout, calling upon voters to honor the legacy of civil rights leaders like John Lewis.

“Early voting is setting records, with nearly a third of Georgians having cast their ballots,” reported the campaign, stressing that every contribution counts in the final stretch leading up to the election.

Eminem Endorses Harris

Eminem, a proud Detroit native, walked onto the stage to his hit song “Not Afraid” and voiced his support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. He emphasized the importance of using one’s voice, especially as Detroit and Michigan were in the spotlight for the election. “I’m here tonight for a couple of important reasons,” the rapper said, urging the audience to vote.

The rapper went on to say, “I believe people should feel free to express their opinions without fear, and I don’t think anyone wants an America where there’s concern about backlash for speaking out.
Speaking to a large crowd, Obama declared, “America is ready to turn the page. We are ready for President Kamala Harris. She is as prepared for the job as any nominee in history.” He further expressed confidence in Harris’ leadership, adding that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz would be an “outstanding partner” as vice president.

Encouraging early voting, Obama urged Americans to choose a new generation of leadership that would build a better, fairer, and more equal country. He acknowledged the challenges the nation has faced in recent years, including the pandemic and rising prices, which have strained families and businesses. Despite these difficulties, Obama stressed the importance of moving forward with Harris at the helm.

Turning to Harris’ opponent, Republican candidate Donald Trump, Obama delivered sharp criticism. He questioned why anyone would believe Trump could “shake things up” in a positive way, citing Trump’s history of self-interest. “There is absolutely no evidence that this man thinks about anybody but himself,” Obama remarked.

He continued his critique of Trump, labeling him as a constant complainer who is more focused on personal gain than on the well-being of Americans. Obama also mocked Trump for selling “Trump Bibles” made in China, calling out the hypocrisy in his tough-on-China stance.

Obama argued that Trump’s strategy relies on fostering division among Americans, pitting “real Americans” who support him against those who don’t. “Donald Trump wants you to think this country is hopelessly divided because it boosts his chances of being elected,” Obama warned.

Vice President Kamala Harris, if elected, would make history as the first woman, first Black, and first Asian American president. She faces former President Donald Trump, who is seeking a rare return to the White House after his defeat in 2020. The US presidential election is set for November 5.

</excerpt>

Former U.S. President Barack Obama made his first appearance on the 2024 election campaign trail, criticizing Donald Trump and urging voters to back Kamala Harris. Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state, Obama called out Trump’s leadership and encouraged voters to get behind Harris, who is running for president.

Obama Targets Trump’s Leadership

During a spirited rally in Pittsburgh, Obama attacked Trump’s lengthy speeches, comparing them to those of Cuban communist leader Fidel Castro. He questioned Trump’s connection with regular Americans, saying, “You think Donald Trump ever changed a diaper?” The former president also criticized Trump’s actions, such as selling Bibles, calling them “crazy,” and slammed Trump’s embrace of conspiracy theories.

As the crowd reacted with boos, Obama responded, “Don’t boo—vote.” He emphasized that this election would be a close one, acknowledging that many voters were still grappling with high prices but expressed confusion over why anyone would believe Trump would bring meaningful change.

Support for Kamala Harris

Obama strongly endorsed Harris, saying she is “as prepared for the job as any nominee for president has ever been.” He urged Black men, who polls show are hesitant to support Harris, to reconsider. “You’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses…you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president,” Obama remarked, addressing Black men directly.

Campaigning in Battleground States

Obama’s appearance in Pennsylvania is the first of several planned in key battleground states as the election nears. Vice President Harris, meanwhile, was in Nevada attending a town hall meeting before heading to Arizona to connect with Latino voters.

When asked at the town hall to name Trump’s virtues, Harris diplomatically said, “I think Donald Trump loves his family, and I think that’s very important…But I don’t really know him, to be honest with you.”

Trump Fires Back

While Obama and Harris campaigned, Trump was in Michigan outlining new protectionist measures for the U.S. auto industry. He used the opportunity to launch personal attacks on Harris, calling her “dumber than hell” and warning that if she became president, the U.S. would end up like Detroit, a city he portrayed as struggling.

Trump also declined a final televised debate with Harris, while she confirmed she would participate in a CNN town hall on October 23 in Pennsylvania.

Obama’s Role in the Campaign

Democrats hope that Obama’s popularity will boost Harris’s campaign, which has seen tight competition with Trump in recent weeks. Obama’s support, along with endorsements from former first lady Michelle Obama, who delivered strong speeches at the Democratic National Convention, is seen as crucial in energizing Democratic voters ahead of the November election.

Obama, a key figure in the final stretch, aims to boost voter turnout in tight races. His efforts have already raised $76 million for Harris’ campaign.
</excerpt>

Former US President Barack Obama is set to begin campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, with a rally next week in Pittsburgh. The event marks the start of a campaign blitz aimed at rallying voters in critical swing states ahead of Election Day.

Obama, who delivered a strong speech in support of Harris at the Democratic National Convention in August, has been offering informal advice to her since she became the Democratic nominee. Harris assumed the position after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race following a lackluster debate performance against Republican candidate Donald Trump.

In the final month of the campaign, Obama will focus on key battleground states, a senior Harris campaign official revealed on Friday. With Obama’s continued popularity among Democratic voters, his presence is expected to be a powerful motivator, especially in tight races where voter turnout will be crucial.

“President Obama understands the importance of this election and is fully committed to helping elect Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, and Democrats nationwide,” said Eric Schultz, Obama’s senior advisor. Schultz emphasized that Obama’s objectives are to win the White House, maintain control of the US Senate, and regain the House of Representatives. As voting has already started, the campaign’s strategy now centers on persuading and mobilizing voters, particularly in states with tight contests that could come down to the wire.

Obama’s involvement in fundraising and campaign events has already brought in $76 million for the Harris campaign, his office confirmed. Last month, he headlined a $4 million fundraiser in Los Angeles and has been featured in multiple campaign ads supporting Harris.

Obama will officially kick off his efforts with a visit to Pittsburgh on Thursday. Both he and his wife, Michelle, endorsed Harris’ presidential bid earlier in July.

</excerpt>

During the recent United Nations High-Level Week, several European ministers dismissed Kamala Harris’ statement made during the ABC debate on September 10, where she claimed that “world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.” While Harris’ remark made headlines, European officials made it clear that their relationship with the U.S. transcends political differences.

Italian Foreign Minister Responds

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani was among the leaders who refuted Harris’ claim. Speaking at the event, he affirmed Italy’s strong bond with the U.S., regardless of leadership.

“We are two sides of the same coin,” Tajani said, emphasizing that Italy would work with Trump if he becomes president again. “We worked with him before and will do so again if needed,” he added. Tajani also highlighted the historical ties between Italy and the U.S., pointing to the strong transatlantic relationship as a key pillar of their foreign policy.

Transatlantic Relations Remain Strong

Tajani further noted that Italy has maintained positive relations with multiple U.S. administrations, including George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. The focus, he said, remains on maintaining strong alliances with America, regardless of the leader in power.

“For us, the transatlantic relations are key,” Tajani emphasized, reflecting a sentiment echoed by many European officials.

Other European Leaders Stay Neutral

Foreign ministers from Lithuania and the Czech Republic chose to remain neutral when asked about Harris’ comment. They emphasized that the U.S. election is a matter for American citizens to decide. However, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky took the opportunity to praise Trump’s stance on defense spending.

“Trump’s message to Europe about spending more on defense was strong and is even more relevant now,” Lipavsky said. He added that the Czech government is increasing its defense budget, aligning with Trump’s previous call for NATO members to spend 2% of their GDP on defense.

Conclusion

While Kamala Harris’ claim stirred discussion, European ministers made it clear that they do not view Trump in the same light. Instead, they reiterated their strong friendship with America and the importance of transatlantic relations, regardless of the U.S. president.

Modi quipped that his mother’s house was smaller than the car, highlighting his humble upbringing and fostering a deeper connection with Obama, who appreciated the candid exchange.
</excerpt>

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the United States in 2014, a memorable moment unfolded between him and then-President Barack Obama, showcasing Modi’s ability to connect on a personal level with world leaders.

Vinay Kwatra, India’s current ambassador to the US and former foreign secretary, recently shared the story on the “Modi Story” platform, which highlights experiences from PM Modi’s life. After formal talks, PM Modi and President Obama visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. As they rode together in Obama’s stretch limousine, their conversation turned to family. Obama asked about Modi’s mother, to which PM Modi humorously responded, “President Obama, you might not believe this, but the size of your car is almost the size of the house my mother lives in!”

The candid remark surprised Obama, providing insight into Modi’s modest upbringing and straightforward nature. According to Kwatra, this exchange helped deepen the connection between the two leaders, who both rose from humble beginnings to lead their nations. The visit marked a significant moment in Modi’s international diplomacy, where personal stories helped bridge cultural and geopolitical divides.

</excerpt>

During the Democratic National Convention (DNC), former President Barack Obama took direct aim at Donald Trump, criticizing his behaviour and leadership. Obama’s remarks were part of a broader critique during the second night of the DNC, where he highlighted Trump’s obsession with crowd sizes, his tendency to spread conspiracy theories, and his fixation on personal grievances. Obama, who has long been a vocal critic of Trump, described him as a “78-year-old rich guy” who has been “whining” ever since he announced his run for president. He pointed out that Trump’s antics have only worsened over time, particularly his childish nicknames and bizarre obsession with crowd sizes.

This criticism followed an equally scathing speech by Michelle Obama, who also took Trump to task, flipping one of his controversial campaign lines on its head, referencing ‘Black Jobs’ in her critique. Her remarks were widely viewed as a sharp rebuke of Trump’s policies and his approach to race relations in the U.S.

In response, Trump wasted no time firing back at the Obamas. During a campaign rally in Asheboro, North Carolina, Trump addressed the personal nature of their attacks, expressing frustration that while he is often advised to “stick to policy,” the Obamas chose to get personal. He mocked Obama’s comments, especially the jabs at his fixation on crowd sizes, and questioned whether he should continue focusing on policy or retaliate with personal attacks of his own.

Trump’s remarks were infused with his characteristic defiance, as he told his supporters, “Did you see Barack Hussein Obama last night taking little shots? He was taking shots at your president, and so was Michelle.” Trump imitated his critics, sarcastically recounting how he was often told, “Sir, please stick to policy, don’t get personal,” but then pointed out that the Obamas had done exactly that—getting personal.

The tension between Trump and the Obamas is not new; it has been a defining feature of U.S. political discourse for years. The animosity dates back to Trump’s promotion of the false “birther” conspiracy theory, which questioned whether Obama was born in the United States. This unfounded claim, which Trump pushed for years, was widely seen as a racially charged attack against America’s first Black president. Obama eventually addressed the conspiracy head-on, publicly releasing his birth certificate and mocking Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2011.

Since then, the rivalry between Trump and the Obamas has only grown. Trump’s attacks on Obama have extended beyond policy disagreements, often taking on a deeply personal tone. This was evident once again during the DNC, as Obama’s speech made it clear that he views Trump’s behaviour as not just unpresidential but also detrimental to the country.

Trump’s response to the Obamas’ speeches at the DNC reflects the deeply personal nature of their ongoing feud. As he questioned whether he should stick to policy or get personal, Trump’s remarks were met with loud cheers from his supporters, indicating that the battle between these two political figures is far from over.

This latest exchange underscores the broader polarization in American politics, where the lines between policy debates and personal attacks are increasingly blurred. As both sides gear up for the upcoming election, the animosity between Trump and the Obamas is likely to continue playing a significant role in the political discourse.

In a powerful speech, Obama praised President Biden, criticized Donald Trump’s leadership, and urged Americans to vote for Harris, emphasizing the need for a new chapter in American politics.
</excerpt>

Obama’s Powerful Endorsement

Former US President Barack Obama took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to rally support for Kamala Harris in her late bid for the presidency. Amid thunderous applause, Obama, the first Black American elected to the White House, delivered a stirring speech, praising President Joe Biden and emphasizing the importance of electing Harris. “We are ready for a President Kamala Harris,” he declared, urging voters to “fight for an America we can believe in”. He said that “Donald Trump sees power as nothing more than a means to his own ends.”

Michelle Obama’s Resonant Message

Before Obama’s address, his wife Michelle Obama received a warm welcome from the crowd. She passionately endorsed Harris and her running mate saying “Hope is making a comeback,” Tim Walz, calling for a rejection of fear and division. Michelle Obama also criticized former President Donald Trump, warning that he would try to distort Harris’s message, just as he had tried to instill fear during his presidency. Her speech resonated with the audience, drawing both applause and laughter as she quipped about Trump’s narrow worldview.

Republican Defections Highlighted

The convention also featured speeches from Republicans who have distanced themselves from Trump, including former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham and ex-Trump voter Kyle Sweetser. Their appearances underscored the broader appeal of the Harris-Walz ticket and the growing discontent with Trump’s leadership among some former supporters.

As the election approaches, Obama’s endorsement adds significant weight to Harris’s campaign, marking a pivotal moment in her pursuit to become the first woman, and the first person of Black and South Asian descent, to hold the presidency.

Former President Barack Obama took the stage at the Democratic National Convention to express his strong support for Kamala Harris, declaring his optimism about her readiness to lead the White House. Obama urged Americans to vote for Harris, with the crowd responding with chants of “yes, she can.”

Obama Reflects on Harris’s Tenure as Attorney General

Obama highlighted Harris’s assertive role as California’s Attorney General, noting how she challenged his administration to deliver for Californians. “As Attorney General of the most populous state, she took on big banks and for-profit colleges,” Obama stated. He praised her efforts to secure a significant settlement for homeowners affected by the mortgage crisis. “It didn’t matter that I was a Democrat. It didn’t matter that she had supported my campaign. She was committed to fighting for as much relief as possible for deserving families.”

Praise for Tim Walz

Obama also commended Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate, calling him an “outstanding partner” for Harris in the White House. He described Walz as someone with genuine values, saying, “I love this guy. Tim is the kind of person who should be in politics. Born in a small town, served his country, taught kids, coached football, took care of his neighbors — he knows who he is and what’s important.” Obama noted Walz’s authenticity, adding, “You can tell those flannel shirts he wears don’t come from some political consultant. They come from his closet and have been through some stuff.”

Harris and Biden Acknowledged

According to CNN, a campaign official confirmed that Kamala Harris watched parts of Barack and Michelle Obama’s speeches while traveling back to Chicago from a campaign rally in Milwaukee. Obama also praised President Joe Biden, saying, “I am proud to call him my president, but I am even prouder to call him my friend.”

A Call to Action

Obama concluded his speech by declaring that “the torch has been passed” to Harris as the new leader of the Democratic Party. “The torch has been passed,” he emphasized. “Now it is up to all of us to fight for the America we believe in — and make no mistake — it will be a fight.”

He encouraged everyone to contribute to the campaign efforts, stating, “If we each do our part within the next 77 days — if we knock on doors, make phone calls, talk to friends, listen to neighbors, work like never before, and hold firm to our convictions — we will elect Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States and Tim Walz as the next vice president of the United States.”

Obama concluded with a call to action: “Together, we will build a country that is more secure and just, more equal and free. So let’s get to work.”

The list features a mix of favorite artists, including Tommy Richman, Megan Thee Stallion, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones.

“With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix,” Obama shared on X (formerly Twitter). “I hope you find something new to listen to!”

The playlist includes tracks like “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “365” by Charli XCX, “Chihiro” by Billie Eilish, “Love Me Jeje” by Tems, and many more.

However, the playlist’s release, which has garnered over 32.9 million views, sparked a wave of disappointment from followers who noted the absence of songs by Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift. A follower commented, “Nice playlist, but are you a Swiftie?” while another expressed their disappointment with, “No Chappell Roan???? Disappointing…”

A few other users echoed similar sentiments, with one asking, “What, no Gojira? Come on, dude, get with the times.” Another user inquired, “Obama not into Swift’s music? Not even a nod to The Tortured Poets Department? Is he missing out or is he just out of touch?”

Despite these critiques, the playlist remains popular, continuing the tradition of Obama’s well-loved annual summer music recommendations.

Obama credits his daughters, Sasha and Malia, for helping him stay up-to-date with current music trends. He mentioned in a conversation with Carter Gregory, “I get referrals from my daughters — which keeps me not stuck in the ’80s.” Obama’s playlists typically blend older classics with contemporary hits, reflecting his broad musical taste.

In a related note, Barack and Michelle Obama have recently endorsed Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency. Expressing their pride in Harris, they’ve pledged to support her campaign efforts leading up to the November election. The endorsement has also spurred a wave of support from Swifties for Kamala, a grassroots organization of Taylor Swift fans dedicated to Harris’s election.
