Massive Cleanup Drive In Badrinath Clears 1.5 Tonnes Of Waste

After hosting an astounding 47 lakh devotees this season, the Badrinath Nagar Panchayat launched an extensive cleaning drive to restore the sacred shrine and its surroundings to their pristine state ahead of the winter closure.

A dedicated team of 50 ‘Paryavaran Mitra’ undertook the cleanup operation, collecting 1.5 tonnes of waste from prominent areas, including Brahm Kapal, Astha Path, Tapt Kund, Main Bazaar, and Mana village. This initiative reflects the local authorities’ unwavering commitment to preserving the sanctity and cleanliness of the revered Char Dham pilgrimage site.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, known for advocating cleanliness at Char Dham shrines, commended the effort. Highlighting the importance of sustainable waste management, the municipality reported earnings of ₹8 lakh from the disposal of 110 tonnes of inorganic waste collected during the Yatra season.

The post-season cleanup at Badrinath Dham exemplifies the adage, “Cleanliness is next to godliness,” seamlessly blending devotion with environmental responsibility.

Earlier, on Monday, November 18, the sacred thrones of Uddhav, Kuber, and Shankaracharya began their winter migration from Badrinath Dham to their designated locations. According to temple officials, the palanquins, accompanied by an army band and rights holders, set off for their winter sojourn. They halted overnight at Pandukeshwar, where Uddhav Ji and Kuber Ji will remain in the Yogadhyan Temple for winter worship, allowing devotees to continue offering prayers to Lord Badri Vishal during the off-season. The throne of Shankaracharya Ji has been placed in the Narsingh Temple at Joshimath, while Narad Ji will conduct worship at Badrinath Dham, adhering to the scriptures that designate six months of worship by humans and six months by gods.

Meanwhile, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, in collaboration with the District Police Administration, reported record-breaking pilgrim turnout during the 2024 Yatra season.

Badrinath Dham welcomed 14,35,341 visitors between May 12 and November 17, including 11,170 on the final day. Kedarnath Dham saw 16,52,076 pilgrims between May 10 and November 3, with 1,26,393 traveling by helicopter.

Additionally, 1,83,722 devotees visited Shri Hemkunt Sahib and Lokpal Tirtha Shri Laxman Mandir before their gates closed on October 10. Temple authorities and local administration hailed these numbers as evidence of the successful management of the Yatra.

“These figures for the year 2024 have been released by the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee with the cooperation of the District Police Administration,” the official statement read.

Uttarakhand: Badrinath Witnesses Decrease In Temperature Following Light Rainfall

The sacred town of Badrinath which is the home of Panch Badri temples, has witnessed a fall in temperature on Sunday, after light rainfall during midnight.

The part of Chota Char Dham and Char Dham has witnessed cold temperatures following light rainfall and snowfall in high mountains.

Meanwhile, the sacred Kedarnath Dham earlier saw huge influx of devotees, which exceeded more than 7 lakhs by June 6th.

In light of huge influx, Uttarakhand has made registration necessary for pilgrims, who come for Chardham Yatra.

Later on, May 22, state’s chief secretary Radha Raturi announced advisory for necessary registration.

The Char Dham circuit for Hindu pilgrimage comprises four locations: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Usually, pilgrimage season peak in summer at Uttarakhand each year for the Char Dham Yatra.

Char Dham Yatra 2024: Uttarakhand Deploys Yatra Magistrates As Devotees Flock to Badrinath And Kedarnath

In response to an overwhelming surge of devotees at the Badrinath and Kedarnath Dhams, the Uttarakhand government has taken proactive measures by deploying Yatra Magistrates to oversee crowd management at these revered pilgrimage sites.

According to an official statement from the Uttarakhand government, Ashok Kumar Pandey has been appointed at Badrinath, while Pankaj Kumar Upadhyay will be stationed at Kedarnath Temple as Yatra Magistrates. Their deployment is scheduled from May 26 to June 6, with the primary responsibility of maintaining peace, order, and facilitating smooth conduct of the Yatra.

The Char Dham Yatra has witnessed an unprecedented influx of pilgrims at the Yamunotri and Gangotri Dhams within the first 15 days of the pilgrimage season. On Friday alone, 9,812 pilgrims visited Yamunotri Dham, while 13,602 made their way to Gangotri Dham. These numbers mark a significant increase compared to previous years, with 3,63,537 visitors recorded at the two holy sites since the pilgrimage season commenced.

Despite the remarkable growth, the Char Dham Yatra has proceeded seamlessly, owing to meticulous planning and coordination by district authorities. District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht has played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the pilgrimage, emphasizing the importance of tight travel arrangements and registration protocols to maintain organization and safety amidst the large crowds.

Efforts to manage the surge in pilgrims and vehicles have been effective, with measures such as vehicle management at holding points and one-way gates implemented to prevent congestion. Adjustments in stopping places and timings have further streamlined traffic flow, ensuring a consistent pilgrimage experience.

The Char Dham Yatra, encompassing the sacred Hindu pilgrimage circuit of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, began on May 10 this year. Uttarkashi, home to Yamunotri and Gangotri, has witnessed a significant influx of pilgrims, drawn by the spiritual significance of these revered sites, particularly the River Yamuna originating from the Yamunotri Glacier.

As the pilgrimage season peaks in Uttarakhand, the Char Dham Yatra continues to attract devotees annually during the summer months, reinforcing the region’s status as a focal point of devotion and spiritual significance for millions of pilgrims.

Char Dham Yatra ’24: Over 29,000 Devotees Pay Obeisance at Kedarnath Dham on First Day of Pilgrimage

The revered Char Dham Yatra in Devbhoomi commenced this month, witnessing an extraordinary turnout of 29,000 devotees on its opening day. Starting in Uttarakhand on May 10, the pilgrimage saw bustling activity across all three Dhams—Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directives, comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure smooth operations at Kedarnath Dham, including its footpaths, highways, and helipads. A dedicated Yatra Control Room, equipped with CCTV surveillance, operates round-the-clock, promptly addressing passenger concerns lodged on the helpline.

Supervised by the Chief Minister, approximately 125 CCTV cameras were strategically installed to monitor devotee movement during the yatra. There’s a heightened focus on cleanliness and healthcare at Kedarnath, with increased sanitation personnel deployed this year. Essential amenities such as drinking water points and health camps are strategically placed along the travel route to cater to devotees’ needs promptly. Government officials remain vigilant throughout the journey to preempt any potential disruptions.

The pilgrimage season commenced with rituals dedicated to Prime Minister Modi at Kedarnath Dham, with Chief Minister Dhami leading the inaugural puja, invoking safe travels and spiritual fulfilment for all pilgrims. As the gates of Baba Kedarnath Dham opened amidst sacred chants, devotees resonated with fervent cries of ‘Har Har Mahadev,’ embarking on a divine odyssey. Adorned with 40 quintals of petals, Kedarnath exuded celestial allure, beckoning countless devotees to its divine embrace.

PM Modi addresses the rescued tunnel workers, says workers showed great courage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the men who were rescued over the phone following the successful rescue of 41 trapped workers from the Silkyara tunnel on Tuesday. Following a 17-day search and rescue operation, all 41 men are receiving primary medical care at the Community Health Centre in Chinyalisaur. Speaking with the employees, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness that every worker had been safely evacuated.

“I have put my telephone on speaker so that the people sitting with me can also listen to you. First of all, I congratulate all of you and all your colleagues. You were able to come out in a happy state even after such a long wait, and it is a matter of great happiness for me. I can’t even describe it in words.”
“It was Kedarnath Baba’s and Badrinath Ji’s grace; you are all well. You also showed great courage, and you encouraged each other. This is the biggest thing because, even while travelling together in a rail compartment sometimes difference occur. Despite that, you remained so patient. I used to keep taking in information continuously. I was also in constant touch with the Chief Minister. When my officers would update me on the work, I used to be concerned as the rescue was taking time. It is due to the prayers of your families and friends that you have been able to win over this crisis” PM Modi added.

Because they were all together all the time, one of the employees told the prime minister, they were never afraid or uneasy.

Uttarakhand’s Badrinath Covered in Snow for the Second Straight Day

Badrinath town in Uttarakhand has experienced uninterrupted snowfall for over two days since Friday evening, covering the sacred Badrinath Dham in a two-inch layer of snow. This revered site, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage destinations, transformed into a picturesque winter landscape, as captured in visuals reported by ANI.

The ongoing snowfall adds to the seasonal beauty of Badrinath, signaling the arrival of winter. Authorities recorded two inches of snow in the temple town during the persistent snowfall.

As per earlier announcements, the portals of Shri Badrinath Dham are scheduled to close for the winter season from November 18. The doors were opened for devotees on April 27 earlier this year, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage season.

Uttarakhand Police Headquarters reported that by October 16, the number of pilgrims visiting Char-Dham had surpassed 50 lakhs, with approximately 5,40,000 vehicles reaching the pilgrimage sites. The pilgrimage season saw significant footfall, with over 17,8000 devotees visiting Kedarnath Dham, 15,9000 visiting Badrinath Dham, 8,46,000 pilgrims at Gangotri, 6,94,000 at Yamunotri, and over 1,77,000 devotees at Hemkund Sahib.

The portals of Shri Gangotri Dham are scheduled to close for winter on November 14, followed by the closure of Shri Yamunotri Dham on November 15, according to an official statement from the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee. The changing weather and imminent closures mark the conclusion of this year’s pilgrimage season in the sacred Char Dham circuit.

Special artworks to be installed in Kedarnath, Badrinath

In order to increase the number of visitors to both Shri Kedarnath and Shri Badrinath Dham, special artwork will be installed. On September 12, the Uttarakhand government made this decision during a cabinet meeting presided over by the chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami. At both Dhams, devotees will have the opportunity to observe historical, religious, and regional folk traditions.

It is noteworthy that various construction works are being done in Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham under the master plan and under this, special artefacts are to be installed at many places here.

Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Badrinath Highway blocked due to falling debris

As boulders continue to fall at numerous locations along the Yamunotri Highway and the persistent rains continue to cause havoc in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, traffic has been suspended and the Yamunotri pilgrimage has been put on hold for the last three days, according to officials. According to Devendra Patwal, a district disaster management official in Uttarkashi, traffic on both sides of the road has been completely stopped for the last three days as a result of the boulders that have been falling continuously. The Yamunotri pilgrimage has broken down significantly as a result, leaving many commuters, including pilgrims and local passengers, stranded, the official claimed.

Uttarakhand: Badrinath National Highway closed near Chhinka due to boulders falling from hill

“The road has been blocked near Chhinka on the Badrinath National Highway,” the Chamoli police of Uttarakhand tweeted. Amid the closure of the national highway, commuters were stuck. Authorities closed the Badrinath National Highway 7 (NH 7) at Chhinka in the State’s Chamoli district leaving many commuters, including pilgrims and tourists travelling to and returning from the famed Badrinath shrine.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami meets former Madhya Pradesh CM Uma Bharti

Former Union Minister and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at Chief Minister’s residence on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the meeting, they both discussed, the security of the affected families in the landslide area of Joshimath and the various arrangements being made by the government in the area were discussed.

Moreover, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that an interim package is being given to the affected families in the landslide area of Joshimath.

“We are studying other cities in the area and how much weight they can take. Accordingly, we will take steps,” CM Dhami said.

Furthermore, Joshimath is a popular temple town that is a gateway to popular pilgrimage sites like Badrinath. Due to unplanned infrastructure building the sinking town is facing a crisis with massive cracks appearing in buildings and roads.

PM Modi to visit Badrinath, Uttrakhand CM Dhami conducts inspection

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Uttrakhand this month. Ahead of his visit, state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected the ongoing works in Badrinath Dham on Wednesday.

PM Modi will visit Uttrakhand on October 21 and he will lay the foundation stone of connectivity projects worth around Rs 3,500 crore. During the inspection, the CM also offered prayers at the shrine.

“Work is going on swiftly on Badrinath Master Plan. We have made the target to finish all the work by December 2023. PM will arrive here (in the state) on Oct 21 and he will lay the foundation stone of a few roads and Hemkund Ropeway,” Dhami said.

PM Modi will address a public rally in Kedarnath and perform darshan and pooja at Shri Kedarnath Temple and at the Badrinath temple.

The ropeways are an environmentally friendly means of transportation that will offer a safe, secure, and stable mode of transportation. They will be created at a cumulative cost of about Rs 2430 crore. This significant infrastructural improvement will encourage religious travel, which in turn will stimulate regional economic growth and generate a number of job possibilities.

“During the visit, the foundation stone for road-widening projects estimated to cost $1 billion will also be placed. The two road widening projects—from Mana to Mana Pass (NH07) and from Joshimath to Malari (NH107B)—will be a further step in ensuring that our border regions have last-mile all-weather road connection. These projects will be useful from a strategic standpoint in addition to improving connectivity, “PMO released a statement.
