Why Did Babar Azam Exclude Kohli & Bumrah from His World T20 XI?

May 17, 2025, 8:50 pm

Pakistan’s ace batsman Babar Azam selected his World XI in the T20 format and surprisingly, he did not name the likes of Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, two of India’s all-time greats in the format. While Bumrah is just an all-format great bowler, Kohli is just as good with his batting abilities. But it was amusing to notice that both of them failed to find a spot in Babar’s XI. Since he had to choose at most two players from a single nation, the Pakistan superstar proceeded with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav while including Indian players in his team.

Babar Azam’s World T20 XI

Babar selected the team on a podcast for Zalmi TV. Significantly, he is the Peshawar Zalmi captain of the Pakistan Super League.

Take a peek at Babar Azam’s World T20 XI:

Rohit Sharma (India), Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan), Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan), Suryakumar Yadav (India), Jos Buttler (England), David Miller (South Africa), Marco Jansen (South Africa), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Pat Cummins (Australia), Mitchell Starc (Australia), Mark Wood (England).

Babar Azam Trolled by Sam Billings

Babar Azam was lately trolled on the internet by England batsman Sam Billings using the assistance of two different records of the players in PSL.

Billings achieved the fastest half-century of PSL 2025, reaching the milestone in just 19 balls. In contrast, Babar recorded the slowest half-century of the edition, taking 47 balls to reach the mark. Billings, playing for Lahore Qalandars, got to the mark against Quetta Gladiators. Babar, meanwhile, got the unwanted record for Peshawar Zalmi against Islamabad United.

The comparative records of the two cricketers were shared by a cricket page on Instagram that was re-posted by Billings.

PSL 2025 Resumes Amid Cross-Border Tensions

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, announced on Tuesday that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 will resume on May 17. The tournament’s final is scheduled for May 25.

Taking to X, Naqvi posted, “PSL X takes off where it ended. 6 teams, 0 fear. Prepare for 8 action-packed matches from 17th May, culminating in the Grand Final on 25th May. Best of luck to all teams!”

The tournament was put on hold indefinitely last week after the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Babar Azam’s Viral Instagram Story Slams Pakistan Army Amid Pahalgam Attack

May 3, 2025, 2:48 am

Amid heightened tensions following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Pakistani Cricketer Babar Azam’s Instagram story has gone viral, sparking widespread discussions across social media and news platforms in both India and Pakistan. The post, which criticizes the Pakistani Army and denies any involvement of cricketers in the incident, comes in the wake of India restricting access to several Pakistani Instagram accounts.

Babar Azam’s Message: “India Is My Second Home”

In the story, Babar Azam purportedly begins by expressing his affection for India, calling it his “second home” and lamenting the ban on his Instagram account in the country. “As a cricketer, I have always loved playing in India and have considered it my second home,” the post reads. He further attempts to draw a clear line between sports and politics, stating, “I want to make it absolutely clear cricketers are not involved in the Pahalgam attack.”

What sets the post apart, however, is its pointed criticism of the Pakistani establishment. The story attributes the Pahalgam attack to “dirty politics driven by the Pakistani Army,” accusing the military leadership of shielding terrorist networks while ordinary Pakistani citizens bear the consequences. “Everyone knows who truly holds power in Pakistan and who continues to protect and support terrorism,” the message claims.

Uncharacteristic Tone Raises Eyebrows

Babar Azam’s alleged story marks a significant departure from his usual public persona, as he typically avoids politically charged commentary. The post ends with a striking message aimed at the Pakistani Army: “Stop sponsoring terrorism,” followed by “Pakistan Zindabad,” suggesting a nationalistic tone with an undercurrent of dissent and reform.

However, the authenticity of Babar Azam’s post remains uncertain. Many speculate that someone may have compromised or tampered with his account. As of now, neither Babar Azam nor the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued any official statement confirming or denying the legitimacy of the viral story.

India Tightens Digital Clampdown

Meanwhile, Indian authorities have continued to clamp down on Pakistani social media accounts following the Pahalgam attack, citing concerns over the spread of misinformation and extremist propaganda. The situation remains tense, with both cricketing ties and digital diplomacy hanging in the balance.

As the story unfolds, the cricketing world watches closely not for scores and boundaries this time, but for truth and accountability in a region caught between politics, propaganda, and sport.

Babar Azam, Atif Aslam’s Instagram Accounts Blocked in India

May 2, 2025, 4:04 pm

Instagram has limited access to the profiles of several Pakistani top celebrities in India, including cricket stars Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan, upon an Indian official’s legal request. The action has been taken against the backdrop of the tragic April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in 26 fatalities.

“Account Not Available in India”: Instagram Message Sparks Reaction

Indian users attempting to view the Instagram accounts of the three Pakistani cricketers—playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025—were greeted with the message, “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

The move is seen as part of an across-the-board clampdown on Pakistani social media profiles with a major Indian following. The government did this after the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was found to be connected with the Pahalgam massacre that resulted in 25 tourists and a local Kashmiri man being killed. Senior security officials asserted that LeT leader Hafiz Saeed and commander Farooq Ahmad had their hands involved in masterminding the attack.

Olympian Arshad Nadeem’s Instagram Also Blocked

Instagram had previously suspended the account of Arshad Nadeem, a gold medalist in the Paris Olympics. Nadeem had been invited by Indian javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra to compete in the NC Classic event on May 24 in Bengaluru, but turned it down because of training obligations for the Asian Athletics Championship.

Similarly, YouTube has suspended the accounts of Pakistani cricket stars such as Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, and Basit Ali in India. The authorities gave reasons like “spreading provocative and communally sensitive content, false and misleading information, and misinformation against India, its Army, and security agencies.”

Pakistani Artists Also Face Online Restrictions

Restricted accounts on Instagram include singer Atif Aslam and actor Fawad Khan as well. Their accounts now reflect the same notice of being compliant with the law. Aslam is famous for Bollywood numbers like Tu Jaane Na and Pehli Nazar Mein, while Khan has acted in Khoobsurat and Kapoor & Sons. His latest film, Abir Gulaal, is uncertain following the attack.

Pakistani actors Mahira Khan, Hania Amir, and Ali Zafar have also faced their Instagram accounts being blocked in India.

Diplomatic Tensions Rise Between India and Pakistan

The April 22 attack in Baisaran, referred to as ‘mini Switzerland’, resulted in the killings of 25 tourists—a Nepali citizen included—and one native. It was the deadliest terror attack in Kashmir since Pulwama in 2019. A naval officer and an IB personnel, among others, were among the killed.

After the massacre, India reduced diplomatic ties with Pakistan, canceled visas to Pakistani citizens, and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty. In response, Islamabad threatened that diverting water would be considered an “Act of War.” The two countries have since shut down their airspace for each other.

Karachi Kings Owner Predicts Babar Azam to Become Bigger Than Virat Kohli, Joining Legends

April 19, 2025, 2:14 am

Babar Azam, once considered one of the top batters in world cricket, has faced a tough few years. Struggling to score consistently in all formats, his disappointing performances, especially in ICC tournaments, have led to significant criticism from both fans and experts. Despite this, Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal has backed Babar for a strong comeback, even suggesting that he could surpass Virat Kohli’s legacy and eventually be mentioned alongside cricketing legends like Sir Viv Richards and Sir Garfield Sobers.

Salman Iqbal’s Bold Prediction for Babar Azam’s Future

In an appearance on the ARY Podcast, Iqbal made a bold statement about Babar’s potential. “I am telling you. Mark my words, when Babar Azam makes a comeback again, he will be a bigger player than any other player in the world, including Virat Kohli. He will be matched with names like Garry Sobers and Sir Viv Richards,” Iqbal said confidently.

He further praised Babar’s inherent class, emphasizing, “He has that class element. When someone has class…. Class is permanent, you can’t change that. Style is always permanent. He will come back…he will come back with a bang.”

Babar Azam’s Recent Struggles in PSL

Despite Iqbal’s optimism, Babar’s poor form continued in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), where his leadership of Peshawar Zalmi has not yielded positive results. Since his blistering 151 against Nepal in 2023, Babar has failed to score a century for Pakistan. His recent performances in PSL have mirrored his struggles, and Zalmi have suffered two heavy defeats under his captaincy.

Babar’s individual form is becoming a growing concern. In their recent 102-run loss to Islamabad United, he failed to perform, adding to the team’s troubles. His poor performance has led to increasing calls for him to step down from captaincy to focus on his batting.

Basit Ali Suggests Babar Learn from Virat Kohli’s Leadership Example

Amid these struggles, former cricketer Basit Ali has urged Babar to take a page from Virat Kohli’s book. Ali criticized Babar’s captaincy and suggested he drop it to focus on improving his batting. “Babar should leave captaincy and focus on his cricket. While chasing a 240-plus target, he gave away a catch to slip and got out. He is not focused. Zalmi management should remove him from captaincy and play him as a batter. He is harming himself,” Ali said on his YouTube channel.

He further highlighted Kohli’s decision to step away from the T20I captaincy and not lead Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL as a smart move. “I will give the example of Virat Kohli. He retired from T20Is, and he is not even the captain of RCB. If you follow him, then learn something from him. You should play as a batter,” Ali added.

Champions Trophy: Babar Azam’s Absence Sparks Speculation Ahead of India Clash

February 23, 2025, 12:40 pm

Pakistan’s ace batsman Babar Azam was absent from the team’s practice session prior to their important Champions Trophy match against India on Sunday. His fitness for the high-pressure game is still in doubt, creating speculation regarding his inclusion in the playing XI.

In the meantime, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi dropped by the practice session, calling on the team to win “at any cost.”

Babar Azam Skips Practice Amid Uncertainty

Only Babar Azam chose to take the day off during Saturday evening’s practice session. His absence was raised an eyebrow, particularly since PCB chief Naqvi was in attendance.

After Pakistan’s 60-run defeat against New Zealand, Azam was severely criticized for his slow 64 off 94 balls, which many believed had cost the team momentum while chasing 320 runs.

But when questioned over Azam’s absence, Pakistan’s interim head coach Aqib Javed was evasive, saying Babar had opted to rest.

PCB Chief’s Strong Message to Team

On Saturday night, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with the Pakistan team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and conveyed a strong message:

Win against India “at any cost” in order to muffle critics’ voices.
If they lost, Pakistan would be out of the tournament, making Sunday’s encounter a do-or-die.

While the team was set for two hours of practice, they were called off early as Naqvi met with captain Mohammad Rizwan and head coach Aqib Javed.

Intense Discussions With The Players

Sources close to the situation claim that Naqvi told the team to play their hearts out against India, adding that a win would silence their critics—for starters, himself.

He was spotted having long conversations with pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, and also mingling with other players, coaches, and support staff.

Naqvi, who was said to be dissatisfied with team selection, ensured that he personally greeted every member of the team.

Confident Words From Naqvi

Talking to the media, Naqvi was full of confidence in Pakistan’s preparedness:

“It would be a good game, and our side is well prepared. As far as I am concerned, they are in shape. We are with them, win or lose.”

When asked why Pakistan was hosting the Champions Trophy but were playing India in Dubai, he had a veiled criticism of the arrangement:

“You can ask the Indians whether the same would have been done to them, how they would have reacted?”

India vs Pakistan: A High-Stakes Clash

With India not willing to travel to Pakistan for security reasons, the Champions Trophy matches featuring India, including a possible final, are being hosted in Dubai.

While the arch-rivals gear up for a high-voltage encounter, all eyes are still on whether Babar Azam will be part of the playing XI and how Pakistan will react to the PCB chief’s challenge.

Shubman Gill Claims No. 1 Spot in ICC ODI Rankings, Surpasses Babar Azam

February 19, 2025, 4:07 pm

Indian opener Shubman Gill has now formally taken down Pakistan’s Babar Azam to be named the new world No. 1 batter as per the most recent ICC ODI rankings. 25-year-old Punjab batsman Shubman now occupies 796 rating points, clearly taking down Babar’s 773 points. It is for the second time during his professional life that Shubman has earned the best ranking in the England ODI series.

Gill’s rise to the No. 1 spot comes after his stellar performances in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England. He played a crucial role in India’s dominant display, scoring 87 off 96 balls in the first ODI at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium on February 6.

He followed it up with a solid 60 off 52 balls in the second match at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. In the last ODI against Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Gill gave a match-winning century, scoring 112 runs from 102 balls, including 14 fours and three sixes.

Indians to Become No. 1 ODI Batter Ranking

With this feat, Gill is among a few elite Indian cricketers who have held the No. 1 ODI batter ranking earlier:

Sachin Tendulkar
MS Dhoni
Virat Kohli
Shubman Gill

Indian supporters and the team administration will pray that Gill maintains his outstanding form in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hoping to guide India to its third title victory in tournament history.

Other Indian Players Shine in ICC Rankings

Shreyas Iyer also improved in the recent ICC ODI rankings. The middle-order batsman who made 59, 44, and 78 runs, respectively, in the three ODIs versus England, has gained one spot and is now the world No. 9 ODI batsman with 679 points. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma holds onto his No. 3 position, while the previous skipper Virat Kohli stays put at No. 6 on 729 points.

Theekshana Becomes No. 1 ODI Bowler

In the rankings of bowlers, Sri Lanka’s Mahesh Theekshana has surpassed Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan to become the No. 1 bowler. Theekshana has 680 rating points, whereas Rashid has 669 points.

As the cricketing fraternity prepares for the Champions Trophy 2025, everyone will be looking at Shubman Gill and whether he can continue his phenomenal form on the big stage.

Mohammad Rizwan Reveals Babar Azam’s Batting Position for Champions Trophy ‘He is Satisfied With…’

February 18, 2025, 5:33 pm

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan confirmed on Tuesday that Babar Azam will continue to open the batting for the team in the upcoming Champions Trophy. The eight-team tournament kicks off on Wednesday, with hosts Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match in Karachi.

Babar recently took on the opener’s role in the Tri-Series against New Zealand and South Africa but struggled to make an impact, registering scores of 10, 23, and 29. The right-hander has been going through a rough patch, having not scored an ODI century since August 2023, when he reached the three-figure mark against Nepal.

Despite his recent form, Rizwan assured that Babar is comfortable with his position and will continue as an opener in the Champions Trophy, which is returning after nearly eight years.

“We have options, but if you look at the combination, Babar will continue opening the batting for us in the Champions Trophy. He is satisfied with his batting position. We want to bring genuine openers, but it is our home conditions, we want a left-right combination. Hence, we decided to have Babar Azam as an opener as he is technically sound batter,” Rizwan told reporters ahead of Pakistan’s match against New Zealand.

With this confirmation, Babar Azam will pair with Fakhar Zaman at the top of the order for Pakistan in the tournament. During the pre-match press conference, Rizwan also emphasized the importance of team effort rather than focusing solely on individual performances.

“It is not just about me and Babar Azam. Everyone is training very hard and working hard to win the Champions Trophy. We are just controlling the controllables,” Rizwan added.

Additionally, Rizwan confirmed that pacer Haris Rauf is fully fit and is expected to play in the opening match against New Zealand.

‘We suffered for 10 years’

This marks the return of an ICC event to Pakistan after 29 years. The country was sidelined from hosting major international tournaments following the 2009 Lahore terror attack on the Sri Lankan team, which led to a decade-long absence of international cricket in Pakistan. Gradually, teams started touring again, and now Pakistan is finally hosting an ICC event.

However, India will not be traveling to Pakistan for the tournament after the government declined to grant permission. Instead, Rohit Sharma and his team will play their matches in Dubai.

“We suffered for 10 years. No team toured Pakistan, but the team continued to perform well. There should be no doubt that our team lacks players or quality. Yes, on the day we might lose and fall behind, we are trying to give our best and perform well in the tournament,” Rizwan stated.

He concluded by highlighting his goal of ensuring the entire squad contributes as a unit rather than relying on individual brilliance.

“As a captain, it feels the best when the win comes through a complete team performance. But in the recent few matches, it has boiled down to individual performances when we have won. The focus right now is on all 15 members, all 15 members are captains. I just come in front of the media or the toss,” Rizwan said.

Tilak Varma Nears Historic Feat, Set to Break Babar Azam’s T20I Ranking Record

January 29, 2025, 5:30 pm

India’s dynamic left-handed batter Tilak Varma has achieved a career-best second position in the latest ICC T20I rankings for batters, released on Wednesday. The 22-year-old rose to the second spot after his stellar knock of 72* in the second T20I against England. In other words, he is only 23 rating points behind the Australian batter Travis Head and can easily go past Pakistan’s Babar Azam’s record to become the youngest player ever to top the T20I batting rankings.

Babar Azam attained the No. 1 rank in January 2018. He was at the age of 23 years and 105 days. Presently, standing at 22 years and 82 days, history is knocking the door for this young man. The upcoming two T20Is against England are crucial enough to claim him the No. 1 slot.

Dominant Form of Tilak Varma

With 832 rating points, the fourth-best for an Indian batsman in the T20I format, this is behind only the ratings of Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli and has even surpassed the rating of KL Rahul. His form has been excellent and he has looked a different proposition with 107* and 120* scores against South Africa and then another two unbeaten knocks of 19* and 72* against England. Finally, he went without a strike in five when Adil Rashid bowled him with one brilliant delivery as the third T20I finished in Rajkot.

He has scored 725 runs in 23 T20I matches, boasting an average of 55.76 and an incredible strike rate of 155.24 along with two hundreds. He’s sure to become the first Indian to surpass Babar and Head in the list.

Adil Rashid Regains No. 1 Position in Bowling Rankings

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid reclaims number one spot in the ICC T20I bowling rankings, ending Akeal Hosein’s 44-day reign at the top. Rashid’s two tight spells, yielding 1/14 and 1/15 in the second and third T20Is respectively, contributed to England reducing India’s series lead to 2-1.

This is the second time Rashid has reached No. 1, having earlier spent a year at the summit from December 2023 to December 2024. Some notable climbers in the batting charts include Liam Livingstone, who rises five places to 32nd, and India’s Abhishek Sharma, who advances 59 places to 40th. In the bowling rankings, Varun Chakravarthy climbed 25 places to a career-best fifth position, while Jofra Archer improved by 13 places to sixth place. Axar Patel improved five places to 11th position, and Hardik Pandya moved eight places higher to 43rd position.

Test Rankings: Noman Ali and Jomel Warrican Shine

Pakistan left-arm spinner Noman Ali along with West Indies’ Jomel Warrican have achieved a career-best rank after their terrific performances in the second Test between Pakistan and the West Indies in Multan.

Noman became the first Pakistani spinner to claim a Test hat-trick while taking 10 wickets for 121 runs. His onslaught propelled him four spots higher to fifth position with 806 rating points, as of now, making him the only Pakistani bowler to be ranked in the top 20.

Warrican moved 16 places up to 25th with a nine-wicket haul for 70 runs, and won the Player of the Match award. Over two Tests, he took 19 wickets and was also declared Player of the Series. Kemar Roach moved one place up to 18th while Gudakesh Motie jumped six places to 58th.

The bowling ranking on Pakistan’s side saw Sajid Khan jump two places into 21st and Abrar Ahmed two places into 50th. West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite, however, moved eight places into 44th by playing a crucial half-century in the second innings as his team won by 120 runs. Their wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan gained seven places from 17th to 15th in the Test batting rankings on Pakistan’s side.

Meteoric rise of Tilak Varma in the ICC T20I rankings has positioned him as one of India’s most promising batters. With only a few more performances standing between him and the No. 1 ranking, Indian cricket fans eagerly await his upcoming matches. Meanwhile, England’s Adil Rashid has cemented his dominance in the T20I bowling rankings, and Pakistan’s Noman Ali and West Indies’ Jomel Warrican have made headlines with their exceptional Test performances. As the rankings continue to evolve, the cricketing world watches closely for the next big milestone.

Have Some Shame And Go Back :Babar Azam’s Furious Reaction To Fans Insulting Him | Watch

November 18, 2024, 7:34 pm

During the second T20I between Pakistan and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Babar Azam was targeted by a group of Pakistani spectators while fielding near the boundary. The fans mocked the former captain, telling him, “Have some shame, Babar Azam. There’s no place for you in the T20 team. Go back, you don’t deserve to be here.” Initially ignoring the insults, Babar eventually turned around and gave them a furious death stare.

Despite his reaction, Pakistan lost the match by 13 runs, giving Australia a 2-0 lead in the series. Pakistan could only manage 134 runs in reply to Australia’s 147-9, despite Usman Khan’s 52. Australia’s Spencer Johnson was the standout, taking 5 wickets for 26 runs.

Australian captain Josh Inglis praised his team, saying, “We thought we were there or thereabouts, and I thought the way the bowlers went about it was brilliant. There are so many options in this team I can go to. Every time I turned to Johnson tonight, he got a wicket. The way they played tonight was really good.”

Pakistan struggled with dropped catches, allowing Australia’s openers to put on a rapid 52-run stand before Rauf’s double strike. Despite two dropped catches, Marcus Stoinis fell for 14.

Babar Azam Dropped From Playing XI For 2nd Test Against England, Reports Indicate

October 13, 2024, 7:27 pm

Pakistan is expected to leave out star batsman and ex-skipper Babar Azam from the playing XI for the second Test against England, which starts on Tuesday (October 15) in Multan. Babar, 29, hasn’t been in form as he hasn’t been able to score a fifty in his last 18 innings. In the first Test against Ollie Pope’s team, he scored 30 and 5 for Shan Masood’s side.

ESPN Cricinfo reported on Sunday that “Babar’s dropping was recommended by the newly-formed selection committee, which met in Lahore following Pakistan’s innings defeat to Australia in the first Test at Multan on Friday. They met for a second day on Saturday in Multan in a session that also included Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi as well as the five mentors appointed by the PCB on three-year deals”.

“It is understood the selection panel collectively felt Babar would benefit from time away from the national side as runs remain elusive.”

The new selection panel comprises Aaqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, former ICC umpire Aleem Dar, analyst Hassan Cheema, the captain, and head coach of the format for which the squad is being picked.

Some of the coaches had favored Babar while a majority of the coaches were in favor of his exclusion, said sources. The selectors held meetings with Shan Masood and Jason Gillespie on Saturday.

Babar could be one of the few changes Pakistan might make in the second Test. Spinner Abrar Ahmed does not seem to be 100 percent fit, and there is every possibility that he will be replaced by either Noman Ali or Sajid Khan. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi too, who has been out of form for a long time, is likely to be dropped; he was not selected for the second Test against Bangladesh in August-September.

Pakistan is currently at the bottom of the WTC 2023-25 points table and cannot afford to lose this second Test against England for two reasons. It will lead to a series defeat as well as knock them off the final.

Suryakumar Yadav Joins Elite List As 3rd Fastest Batter Worldwide After Babar Azam & Virat Kohli

October 13, 2024, 5:45 pm

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav delivered an impressive performance, scoring 75 runs from 35 balls in the third T20I against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday (October 12). The 34-year-old right-hander came in at No. 3 following Abhishek Sharma’s early dismissal and smashed eight fours and five sixes during his stay. He shared a massive 173-run second-wicket stand with Sanju Samson (111), helping India post a formidable total of 297/6 in their 20 overs.

In the process of his 75-run knock, Suryakumar surpassed the 2500-run milestone in T20Is, making him the third fastest player in the world to do so, after Pakistan’s Babar Azam and India’s Virat Kohli. Babar reached the 2500-run mark in his 67th match, while Kohli needed 73 matches. Saturday’s game marked Suryakumar’s 74th T20I.

Fastest to 2500 runs in T20Is:

– Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 67 matches

– Virat Kohli (India) – 73 matches

– Suryakumar Yadav (India) – 74 matches

– Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan) – 76 matches

– Aaron Finch (Australia) – 78 matches

Rohit Sharma is the only other Indian to surpass 2500 T20I runs, achieving the milestone in his 100th match.

In addition, Suryakumar has now moved into a tie for third place on the list of batters with the most sixes in T20Is, with 144 sixes in 74 matches. West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran also holds 144 sixes in T20Is.

Most sixes in T20Is:

– Rohit Sharma (India) – 205 sixes

– Martin Guptill (New Zealand) – 173 sixes

– Suryakumar Yadav (India) – 144 sixes

– Nicholas Pooran (West Indies) – 144 sixes

– Jos Buttler (England) – 137 sixes

The victory over Bangladesh also saw Suryakumar become India’s fourth most successful T20I captain, surpassing Hardik Pandya’s 10 wins from 16 matches. Suryakumar has now led India to 11 wins out of 13 matches.

Most wins as Indian captain in T20Is:

– Rohit Sharma – 49 wins

– MS Dhoni – 42 wins

– Virat Kohli – 32 wins

– Suryakumar Yadav – 11 wins

– Hardik Pandya – 10 wins

Under Suryakumar’s leadership, India has secured victories in four matches against Australia (Nov-Dec 2023), one against South Africa, and three each against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Notably, India won the third T20I against Sri Lanka in July 2024 in a super over after the match ended in a tie.

Gillespie Backs Babar Azam To Score ‘Big Runs’ For Pakistan Despite Form Struggles

September 2, 2024, 10:14 pm

Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie has expressed confidence in Babar Azam’s ability to return to form despite his recent struggles. Babar has been unable to accumulate runs since the conclusion of last year’s ODI World Cup in India.

After Pakistan’s exit from the World Cup, Babar stepped down as captain but later resumed his role as white-ball skipper before this year’s T20 World Cup. His form continued to falter in the ongoing home Test series against Bangladesh, drawing criticism from fans and former cricketers.

Despite these challenges, Gillespie remains optimistic about Babar’s potential. He stated, “Babar is a quality player. He is a world-class player. He is very close. I feel it. I am confident that we are going to see Babar scoring some big runs very soon. He probably hasn’t converted the start he has got.”

Following Pakistan’s exit from the ODI World Cup, the team toured Australia for a three-match Test series, where they suffered a 3-0 whitewash. Babar’s performance during these Tests was underwhelming, with only 126 runs at an average of 21. In the subsequent T20I series in England, Babar scored 68 runs in two matches, averaging 34.00. During the T20 World Cup, he managed 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 but faced criticism for his strike rate of 101.66.

In the ongoing series against Bangladesh, Babar has scored just 64 runs across four innings. He will be eager to regain his form in Pakistan’s upcoming series against England.

Pakistan’s decision to field four fast bowlers on the sluggish Rawalpindi pitch was challenged over Days 3 and 4 of the opening Test against Bangladesh. Despite Pakistan declaring their innings at 448 for six, Bangladesh gained a commanding position, taking a 117-run lead in the first innings. They were eventually dismissed for 565 runs just before the final hour on Day 4.

Shan Masood, Pakistan’s captain, expressed his frustration over missed chances and failed breakthroughs as five Bangladeshi batters reached half-centuries, with Mushfiqur Rahim leading with a monumental 191. The situation was captured in a viral video where Masood was seen arguing with newly-appointed head coach Jason Gillespie, who listened quietly as Masood voiced his concerns.

Mushfiqur’s marathon innings lasted 8 hours and 42 minutes, during which he formed a record 196-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who also scored a half-century. This partnership surpassed the previous record for a seventh-wicket stand against Pakistan, set at 186 runs by Warren Lees and Richard Hadlee in 1976.

Bangladesh’s total of 565 runs is their highest score against Pakistan, surpassing their previous record of 555 for 6 set in Khulna in 2015. At the close of Day 4, Pakistan managed to reduce the deficit to 94 runs, with Masood and Abdullah Shafique remaining unbeaten on 9 and 12, respectively. Pakistan will resume on Day 5 at 23 for 1.

‘Bolne Ki Tameez’: Harbhajan Singh Criticizes Pakistani Fan, Watch

August 2, 2024, 10:16 am

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, August 2, to criticize a Pakistani fan who shared a video alleging that Babar Azam refused to give an interview to Irfan Pathan during the ODI World Cup 2023 match in India. Harbhajan, one of India’s greatest cricketers, was displeased with the language used by the Pakistani fan in the viral post and called him out for it.

— Harbhajan Turbanator (@harbhajan_singh) August 1, 2024

In a tweet that has since gained significant attention, Harbhajan Singh wrote, “Where is @IrfanPathan in this video?? Bolne ki tameez to aap logo ko pehle hi nahi thi. Ab aankho se dikhna bi bandh ho gya kya? Waise bi agar angreji mai swal pooch liya to pange pad jayenge.” Pakistan traveled to India last year to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Green played two matches each in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata, while the highly anticipated match against India took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

Despite entering the tournament as the world No. 1 ODI team, Babar Azam’s side managed to win only four matches in the ODI World Cup 2023 and failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Pakistan began their campaign with victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka but subsequently lost momentum, suffering consecutive defeats against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam stepped down from his captaincy role in all three formats. Shan Masood was appointed as Test captain, and Shaheen Shah Afridi took charge of the T20I team.

However, after a change in PCB’s management this year, Babar was reinstated as Pakistan’s T20I captain, leading the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Unfortunately, in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan failed to advance to the Super 8s, facing humiliating defeats against the USA and India in their first two Group A matches.

VIRAL: Pakistan’s Best Batsmen Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman Struggle Against Naseem Shah’s Younger Brother – WATCH

July 18, 2024, 3:07 pm

The Pakistan cricket team is set to return to action next month, hosting Bangladesh for a two-match Test series. This will mark the team’s first appearance since their early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the first round. The disappointing performance led to reports of internal strife, with Shaheen Afridi allegedly accused of misbehavior by the coaching staff, and resulted in the dismissal of former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee.

In light of these events, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly planning significant changes, including making participation in domestic cricket mandatory for players.

Amidst these developments, an undated video featuring Pakistan’s white-ball captain Babar Azam and top-order batter Fakhar Zaman during a net session has gone viral. The clip shows them facing Ubaid Shah, an 18-year-old fast bowler and the younger brother of Pakistan star Naseem Shah. Despite his limited experience, with only four matches in List A and T20s, Ubaid seems to challenge both Babar and Zaman, who appear to struggle against his bowling.

Ubaid Shah is the real deal, amazing wrist & great pace. Hopefully his development continues smoothly.

Babar Azam Faces More Criticism As 18-Year-Old Naseem Shah’s Brother Exposes Struggles

July 18, 2024, 12:51 pm

Once a superstar of Pakistan cricket, Babar Azam has recently faced heavy criticism due to poor performances both as a batsman and captain. His troubles began last year when Pakistan exited the ODI World Cup in India before the semifinals.

Although Babar was their top batsman, he failed to deliver, leading to the team’s disappointing performance. Overwhelmed by the pressure, Babar stepped down as captain following the World Cup debacle. Babar’s and Pakistan’s fortunes did not improve, as the team was eliminated from the T20 World Cup at the group stage.

Babar again faced backlash from fans and experts for his poor form. He wouldn’t have led Pakistan in the tournament if not for the sudden removal of Shaheen Afridi after just one series as captain, which put Babar back in charge.

— Farid Khan (@_FaridKhan) July 17, 2024

This frequent leadership change destabilized the team, and the PCB could have supported Afridi, who had a strong record as a captain in PSL. However, Babar also bears responsibility for accepting the captaincy, which he could have declined. The leadership turmoil reportedly created a tense atmosphere in the dressing room, with rumors of player rifts. Babar’s future as captain remains uncertain, as the PCB will consult with former cricketers to make a decision. With the ICC Champions Trophy approaching next year, the board wants to avoid any risks.

However, Babar Azam’s batting capabilities remain crucial. Although his confidence seems shaken during his current slump, as seen in a viral video of him struggling against Naseem Shah’s younger brother in practice, he is still Pakistan’s best batsman. Pakistan has a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August, and they hope Babar can regain his form before then.

IND vs SA, T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli Equals Babar Azam’s Massive Record After a Crucial Fifty

June 29, 2024, 10:47 pm

In the T20 World Cup final, Virat Kohli, as highlighted by captain Rohit Sharma, saved his best for last. Facing South Africa, Kohli stepped up when the top-order crumbled, hitting his first fifty of the tournament. Reaching his half-century in 48 balls at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, Kohli’s steady presence helped India post a competitive total by holding one end and preventing South Africa from gaining complete control.

Despite managing only 75 runs in the first seven matches of the T20 World Cup, Kohli’s place in the side was questioned. However, the team management, including Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, backed his experience to deliver at this crucial stage.

In the final, Kohli adopted a more classical approach, contrasting with his aggressive style seen in earlier matches. His innings began with three boundaries in the first over – a cover drive, a straight drive, and a flick to deep fine-leg. Kohli’s adaptability shone through, especially after being criticized for playing out of his natural style in the semi-final against England, where he fell attempting an ambitious shot off Reece Topley.

Kohli equaled Babar Azam’s record for the most fifty-plus scores in men’s T20I cricket, achieving his 39th in 126 matches. He accelerated after reaching his fifty, finishing with 76 off 59 balls, scoring his last 26 runs in just 11 balls, after going 37 balls without a boundary.

India posted a total of 176 for 7 in their 20 overs, bolstered by a late cameo from Shivam Dube and a significant contribution from Axar Patel, who shifted the momentum with a brave 47 off 31 deliveries.

“You Kept Your Friends in the Team”: Ahmed Shahzad Fumes at Babar Azam Over ‘Legal Action’ Threat by the Pakistan Captain

June 26, 2024, 6:32 pm

Ahmed Shahzad has intensified his critique of Babar Azam and the Pakistan cricket team following their early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Speaking on a Pakistani TV channel, Shahzad sharply rebuked Babar, questioning his leadership and decision-making over recent years, especially in light of Pakistan’s repeated failures in global tournaments.

Ahmed Shehzad criticized Babar Azam for filing a defamation case against ex-players. pic.twitter.com/2RgHB5825O

— ????? (@CallMeSheri1) June 22, 2024

“Former players that he (Babar) is talking about, they should also file a case on him asking when you had a team for 5 years, where have you brought the team, to the 7th spot,” Shahzad said.

Unfazed by the ‘legal threat’, Shahzad continued, saying, “The domestic cricketers whom you didn’t select for the team, you went ahead with one group, kept on saying that this group will win you matches, but that didn’t happen, and those domestic cricketers who didn’t get a chance in the past 5 years, they should also file a case and ask questions. They should also ask Babar how you kept adjusting your friends in the team, who you turn into bowlers when they can’t bat, turn into batsmen when they can’t bowl, and when they do nothing, you adjust them by making them fielders.”

Shahzad also criticized Babar’s consideration of legal action against former players and YouTubers who criticized the team. He argued that criticism is an inherent part of sports, citing examples like Messi and Ronaldo who face similar scrutiny but handle it professionally.

“Even great players like Messi and Ronaldo, who have a huge fan following, are criticized. Even the effigies of Messi were burnt recently, shoes were hurled at their photos. But they are sportsmen, they take all this in their stride. You should also take the criticism positively, but instead you are saying you will file defamation cases against former cricketers,” Shahzad asserted.

Regarding the PCB’s stance on potential legal actions, Shahzad expressed doubt and stressed the need for accountability in cricket.

“After losing 3 World Cups, 2 Asia Cups, you (Babar) were made captain again after 2 months, you should have asked the question how you were made the captain? Is it only you whose sentiments are getting hurt, not of the fans? We always tell the public the truth, we don’t body shame anyone, we don’t even take wrong names, we talk only about cricket, Pakistan cricket. What have you done? You always try to find an escape route.”

“We were also criticized, so much that we didn’t get the third match after two bad matches. We didn’t say anything to anyone. You get paid to do well. Even the cameraman here has a job to do, even if he doesn’t do it properly, he is also answerable,” Shahzad concluded.

Has Babar Azam Been Involved in Match Fixing? – See What This Senior Pak Journalist Has Alleged

June 20, 2024, 6:47 pm

Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 has sparked intense criticism from former cricketers and administrators, focusing on issues such as poor fitness and lack of intent. The team, led by Babar Azam, started their campaign with defeats against debutants USA and former champions India, and despite winning their last two matches, they could not progress past the group stage.

In the aftermath of this disappointing performance, senior journalist Mubashir Lucman has leveled a serious allegation against Babar Azam. Lucman claimed that Babar was gifted a costly Audi e-Tron GT by his elder brother late last year, a car valued at over INR 2 crore (more than double in Pakistani rupees). Lucman questioned how Babar’s brother, who reportedly does not work, could afford such an expensive gift. He insinuated that the car might be linked to under-the-table deals, suggesting that players who perform poorly could be receiving illicit benefits.

People need to stop underestimating how much Babar Azam makes.

PSL makes him $250,000, his salary from the PCB is around the same + 2 other leagues would make him close to $1 million.

This is without branding, advertising etc…

This car is only worth around $100k. https://t.co/Ozmt9mOE0x

— Raz Khan (@razkhan789) June 19, 2024

I have just one question: Why couldn't Babar Azam's brother afford shoes for him when he desperately needed them, yet he suddenly gifted Babar Azam an 8 crore car?

The question that remains unanswered is: Where did he earn that money from? https://t.co/Hkt9Ju36Pz

— Maham B. (@mzbukh) June 19, 2024

Meanwhile, several senior members of the Pakistan team, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, may be rested for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh in August. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly in contact with Test captain Shan Masood, currently playing for Yorkshire in England, and the new red-ball head coach, Jason Gillespie, to finalize plans for the series.

A PCB source mentioned that one proposal under consideration is to rest senior players and give opportunities to uncapped or less experienced players. However, no final decision has been made, as the ultimate team selection will be decided by Masood and Gillespie. Additionally, the PCB might consult with white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten on strategies for the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for February-March next year.

These developments come at a crucial time for Pakistan cricket, as the PCB looks to address the team’s issues and prepare for future competitions.

As Pakistan Got Eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup; Social Media Goes Into a Meme Fest – Check Out the Most Hilarious Reactions

June 15, 2024, 5:44 am

In a landmark achievement at the 2024 T20 World Cup, the United States cricket team made history by advancing to the second round in their debut appearance. This milestone was sealed after their final group match against Ireland was washed out due to rain and a wet outfield in Lauderhill, Florida.

The cancellation of the USA vs Ireland game had a significant repercussion as it led to the elimination of former champions Pakistan from the tournament. The USA’s pathway to the Super Eight stage was propelled by their memorable Super Over victory over Pakistan earlier in the tournament, a result that played a crucial role in their progression.

The news of the USA’s qualification sparked lively reactions on social media, with many users highlighting Pakistan’s early exit and praising the USA’s unexpected success. This achievement also secures the USA’s automatic qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

‘Inse Jyada Buzdil Cricketers Aaj Tak Nahi Dekhe’: Former Pakistan Players Slam Pak Team for Poor Performances

June 13, 2024, 2:25 pm

Former Pakistan cricketers and experts have heavily criticized the national team following its losses to the USA and India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Despite a win against Canada, the team’s fate in the tournament now depends on other results.

Imran Nazir, a former Pakistan batter, didn’t mince words, calling Babar Azam and his team “cowards” for what he perceived as making excuses rather than showing courage on the field. He emphasized the need for fearlessness in cricket and criticized the team for its lack of middle-order batters and inability to perform consistently.

“I am sorry, but I am compelled to say that cricket is a game of the fearless. I haven’t witnessed anyone as cowardly as this team [Cricket dileron ka khel hai. Yeh team jis tarike se khele hai, inse jyada buzdil cricketers aaj tak nahi dekhe],” Nazir remarked on a Pakistani TV show.

“I frequently discuss what new excuse they will be concocting now. There are no excuses in cricket. Irrespective of the pitch or conditions you encounter, you are obligated to play,” Nazir added.

“In a team where there’s no middle-order batter who can rotate the strike, how can you anticipate that team to win the World Cup? This team failed to score 40 runs, despite having eight batters. First, ascertain what you possess. You neither have proficient batters nor adept bowlers, nothing,” he added.

Ahmed Shehzad, another former player, echoed Nazir’s sentiments and pointed out Babar’s subpar statistics in major competitions. Shehzad advised Babar to focus on domestic cricket to improve his game, citing his own experience of revitalizing his performance through domestic cricket. He urged Babar to work on his skills, particularly in executing modern cricket shots, to progress as a player.

“When my stats started deteriorating, I went straight to domestic cricket. And your [Babar’s] stats are not ‘King’ size. Nobody wants to retain you in the PSL team. International players are reluctant to join the PSL team you are part of because they say we will be under more pressure due to Babar playing. This is the truth,” Shehzad said.

“You should play in domestic cricket. I did and spent three years in domestic cricket. My performance improved after that. I am not implying that I will be selected for the national team, but it’s a process. You have had five years of [international] cricket, but you did not elevate your calibre. Your cricket is stagnant. You know that you can’t execute the aerial shots required in modern-day cricket. You will get out. You should toil in domestic cricket now,” he suggested.

“You Fooled Pakistan, Got Your Friends Into the Team”: Ahmed Shehzad Lambasts Babar Azam

June 12, 2024, 5:28 pm

In a passionate outburst on live television, Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad launched a scathing attack on captain Babar Azam, criticizing his performance and leadership during the T20 World Cup 2024. Shehzad highlighted Babar’s lackluster statistics in major tournaments, pointing out his average of 27 in T20I cricket on such occasions.

“Ever since Babar Azam became captain, we’ve been losing to mediocre teams,” Shehzad exclaimed during the viral video. He expressed disappointment in Pakistan’s inability to secure victories under Babar’s leadership, even against lower-ranked opposition.

During the discussion, Shehzad emphasized the need for senior players to step up and take responsibility, particularly in crucial matches like the one against India where Pakistan fell short in a chase of 120 runs.

“You guys have performed against B, C, D teams and fooled the people,” Shehzad accused the team management, highlighting the disparity between performances against weaker teams versus stronger opponents.

Shehzad also critiqued Babar’s individual performances in significant matches, citing his average of 27 and strike rate of 112 in major competitions. He pointed out that a significant portion of Babar’s runs in T20Is have come in losing causes, ranking him third globally in such statistics.

In a final rebuke, Shehzad accused Babar of nepotism, alleging that he had favored his friends in team selection, to the detriment of the team’s performance and the public’s trust.

“You have fooled the entire public. You are making a team with your friends, keeping your friends in the team,” Shehzad concluded, expressing his frustration with the current state of affairs in Pakistan cricket.

The squad appears to be in high spirits during training, with players enjoying the sessions. In a light-hearted moment captured on video, Captain Babar Azam referred to Azam Khan, the son of legendary cricketer Moin Khan, with the playful nickname ‘Gainda’ (Rhino), saying, “Aye gainda nai siddha hoya,” while pointing towards the burly player.

Pakistan, who won the T20 World Cup in 2009, have shown strong performances in recent tournaments, reaching the semi-finals in 2021 and finishing as runners-up to England in 2022.

In the 2024 World Cup, Pakistan is placed in Group A. Following their opener against the US, they will face arch-rivals India on June 9 in New York, a match highly anticipated by fans. Historically, Pakistan has won only once in seven T20 World Cup encounters against India.

Pakistan Captain Babar Azam Surpasses Stalwart Batter Virat Kohli for Elusive T20I Record

May 15, 2024, 2:56 pm

Pakistan made history in their third T20I clash against Ireland, with captain Babar Azam surpassing India’s Virat Kohli in setting new records. Despite an initial setback in the first T20I, Pakistan bounced back with consecutive wins to seal the series, securing a decisive 6-wicket victory in Dublin on Tuesday.

Babar demonstrated his batting prowess with a commanding 75 off 42 deliveries, including five sixes and six boundaries, solidifying his status as the top scorer with the most 50-plus scores in T20Is, achieving this feat for the 39th time. Notably, he became the first Pakistani batsman to score 25 runs in a single over against Ireland, smashing four sixes off Benjamin White’s bowling.

Teaming up with Mohammad Rizwan (56), Babar crafted a formidable 139-run partnership for the second wicket, laying a strong foundation for Pakistan’s triumph. Their collaboration marked their 10th century partnership in T20Is, a milestone unmatched by any other duo, and also saw them surpass the landmark of accumulating 3,000 partnership runs in the format.

Looking ahead, Pakistan is set to face England in a four-match T20I series, providing a crucial opportunity to refine their strategy ahead of the upcoming World Cup. The series is scheduled to kick off on May 22 at Headingley Carnegie, with the final match slated for May 30 at The Oval, London.

Babar Azam Achieves Milestone Following Pakistan’s Win Against Ireland

May 13, 2024, 12:52 pm

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, ascended to the top of an esteemed list after his team secured a remarkable victory over Ireland, making him the most successful T20I skipper with 45 wins to his credit – the highest in men’s T20I cricket history.

Pakistan’s squad successfully chased down Ireland’s challenging total of 193/7 with over three overs to spare, thanks to a formidable 140-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan (75*) and Fakhar Zaman (78), which propelled Babar Azam to a record-breaking 45th T20I triumph.

Despite being among the top cricketing nations, Babar holds a five-win lead over second-placed Aaron Finch (40), surpassing Uganda’s skipper Brian Masaba (44) for the most wins by a captain in all men’s T20Is.

While Babar leads the chart, Eoin Morgan, England’s captain during their 2019 World Cup victory, holds third place with 42 victories. MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma share the fourth spot with 41 wins each. Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan also shares the third position with Morgan, boasting 42 victories as captain in this format.

Although Babar himself didn’t contribute much with the bat against Ireland, getting out early in the second over, Rizwan and Fakhar’s stellar performance leveled the series for Pakistan.

Fakhar showcased his prowess by hitting six sixes, while Rizwan provided steady support, with their partnership rapidly amassing 140 runs and taking the game out of Ireland’s reach.

Even though Fakhar departed in the 15th over, Azam Khan’s unbeaten 30 runs off just 10 deliveries ensured Pakistan’s victory.

The third and final match of the three-game series is scheduled to take place in Dublin on Tuesday.

Babar Azam Can Surpass Kohli, Rohit in T20I Run Record in Pakistan’s Forthcoming Series

May 7, 2024, 11:42 pm

In Pakistan’s upcoming T20I tour of Ireland and England, skipper Babar Azam is closing in on the run tally of Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in T20I cricket. Currently, Babar ranks third in T20I cricket’s highest run-scorers, with 3,823 runs in 107 innings, trailing behind Kohli and Rohit. Kohli tops the list with 4,037 runs in 109 innings, followed closely by Rohit with 3,974 runs in 143 innings.

Babar has the chance to surpass these Indian stalwarts during Pakistan’s crucial T20I series against Ireland and England, which will serve as vital preparation for the T20 World Cup scheduled in June in the USA and the West Indies. The squad for this series includes the return of pace bowler Haris Rauf, who missed the New Zealand series due to a shoulder injury, and the comeback of seamer Hasan Ali.

Most players from the New Zealand series have been retained, with Salman Ali Agha joining the 18-member squad after being reserved during the Black Caps series. Additionally, Azam Khan returns to the squad after missing the New Zealand series due to injury, while Mohammad Rizwan, recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in the third T20I against New Zealand, has also been included in the travelling squad.

The series will commence with a three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14, followed by a four-match T20I series against England starting on May 22.

Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (C), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan.

Babar Azam Moves to 4th Spot in T20I Rankings, Suryakumar Yadav Remains at Top

May 1, 2024, 5:45 pm

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has narrowed the gap with India’s Suryakumar Yadav in the ICC Men’s T20I batter rankings after Pakistan’s team managed to draw the latest series against New Zealand.

Babar emerged as Pakistan’s top run-scorer in the series, which ended in a 2-2 tie, notably scoring a half-century in the fifth T20I, amassing a total of 125 runs from four innings at the top of Pakistan’s batting order.

With the first match washed out due to rain, Pakistan won the fifth T20I. Babar’s performance elevated him one spot to fourth in the updated T20I rankings for batters, increasing his rating by 10 points to 763.

Now, Suryakumar is only 98 rating points ahead of Babar as they both gear up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup starting on June 1. Additionally, Babar’s teammate Fakhar Zaman climbed ten places to 62nd in the rankings following his contribution of 104 runs in the series.

Among the New Zealand players, Tim Seifert stood out, rising seven places to joint seventh position after scoring 85 runs in the series with a commendable strike rate of 144.06.

Furthermore, there was a notable advancement for Pakistan and New Zealand bowlers in the updated T20I bowlers’ list, with pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi climbing three places to 14th after taking eight wickets across four matches against New Zealand.

Babar Azam Optimistic Despite Pakistan’s Loss to New Zealand in T20I

April 26, 2024, 2:13 am

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is optimistic that the national team will find their footing before commencing their journey in the upcoming T20 World Cup, despite their loss in the fourth T20I against New Zealand in Lahore. While Pakistan nearly clinched victory in the series, falling short by four runs while chasing 179, New Zealand’s win at the Gaddafi Stadium gave them a 2-1 lead in the series.

Following the team’s failure to secure victory in the five-match T20I series, Babar shared his perspective on the team’s performance against an opponent without their key players.

“We are trying something new and different in every game. Hopefully, we will be settled before going for the T20 World Cup,” Babar said after the game.

New Zealand made a rapid start with Tim Robinson and Tom Blundell finding the right areas and performing at their peak during the powerplay.

In contrast, Pakistan faced difficulties matching New Zealand’s success in the powerplay, losing three wickets within the first six overs compared to the Kiwis’ solitary wicket. However, Fakhar Zaman (61) and Imad Wasim (22*) propelled Pakistan back into contention with their sensational stroke play.

Nevertheless, their exceptional performances with the bat couldn’t propel Pakistan to chase down the total, which, according to Babar, was “chaseable”.

“They started nicely but our bowlers made a good comeback, we stuck to a length. In the first six overs, we lost quite a number of wickets. Fakhar’s innings was outstanding, unfortunately, we couldn’t chase it down, Imad also played good innings. It was a different surface, the average score here is 190 and we did well to restrict them and it was a chaseable total. Our youngsters did well,” Babar added.

Having missed out on taking the lead in the series, Pakistan aims to level the series as they confront New Zealand in the fifth T20I on Saturday.
