</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga ‘initiative, launched in 2022 as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ has not only fostered national unity and patriotism but also catalysed the emergence of a new women-led industry across India. The campaign, which encourages citizens to display the national flag at their homes, workplaces, and institutions, has evolved into a significant movement with far-reaching socio-economic impacts.
Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, which oversees the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, highlighted the initiative’s transformative effect on employment and industry and said that this initiative by PM Modi had led to the creation of job employment opportunities for women in the country.

“While it evolved into a large people’s movement, it also created new employment opportunities for thousands of women across the country. This initiative gave birth to an entirely new industry driven by women at the grassroots level, reducing reliance on large vendors. Today, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have become the primary producers of the national flags,” Mohan said.

Initially, meeting the overwhelming demand for flags posed a significant challenge, officials recalled. In the first year of the campaign, the central government procured and distributed approximately 7.5 crore flags to states, both directly and through post offices, to address the shortfall. To further support this endeavor, Prime Minister Modi spearheaded a revision of the Flag Code of India, which facilitated the involvement of various stakeholders in flag production, including women’s SHGs.

By the second year of the campaign, the dependency on central government-supplied flags dramatically reduced. “The demand for central government-supplied national flags significantly dropped to around 2.5 crore in the second year, as women’s SHGs increasingly took over flag production. A notable example is Uttar Pradesh, which purchased 4.5 crore flags from the government in 2022 but did not buy any in 2023, thanks to the self-sufficiency of its SHGs in flag production,” reveals Govind Mohan.

The Indian tricolour, a symbol of the nation’s rich history and diverse culture, has its roots in the freedom struggle. Designed by Pingali Venkayya in 1921, the flag evolved through various iterations before its final adoption in 1947. The saffron, white, and green stripes represent courage, purity, and faith respectively, while the Ashoka Chakra symbolizes the ‘Wheel of Law’ and continuous progress. The trend continued into 2024, with the demand for central government-supplied flags falling further to just 20 lakhs. SHGs have become the primary producers of flags, showcasing a remarkable shift from large vendors to grassroots enterprises. “Across India, approximately 25 crore flags are needed annually, one for every home. This shift from large vendors to SHGs has transformed these groups into a thriving industry,” Mohan notes.

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is now seen as a testament to how a national initiative can simultaneously promote civic engagement and create substantial economic opportunities. By empowering Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the campaign has ensured broad public participation and fostered significant economic benefits for women across the country. It serves as a powerful example of how strategic government campaigns can drive positive socio-economic change, benefiting communities and creating new industries in the process.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, urging the youth to contribute to making India a developed nation by 2047. Shah highlighted the surprising global recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievements.

Celebrating India’s Achievements

Shah emphasized the impact of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, started by Modi, which he described as a powerful symbol of patriotism and the resolve to create a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047. He noted that this campaign is energizing not just Gujarat but the entire nation.

Goals of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’

Ahead of Independence Day, Shah outlined the three key goals of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative:

To remind citizens of India’s freedom struggle.

To highlight the country’s achievements over 75 years of independence.

To encourage all 1.4 billion citizens to pledge towards making India a global leader by 2047.

Modi’s Leadership and Achievements

Shah praised Modi’s leadership, recalling his decisive actions against terrorism and Naxalism, including surgical and air strikes. He also commended Modi’s efforts in combating COVID-19 by providing free vaccinations to the entire population using advanced technology.

Call to Action

Shah urged the youth to take an active role in achieving Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. He stressed that the country’s future depends on the collective efforts of its younger generation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hoist the national flag at the Red Fort on August 15 and address the nation for the 11th time from this historic site.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that the Amrit Mahotsav has paved the way for India to enter a “Golden Era,” likening the atmosphere it created among citizens to that of India’s independence.

Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Kochrab Ashram, PM Modi emphasized the Sabarmati Ashram’s role as a vibrant center of energy, echoing the inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi.

He remarked, “Sabarmati Ashram has kept alive Bapu’s values of truth and nonviolence, nation service, and seeing God’s service in the service of the deprived. Amrit Mahotsav created a gateway for India to enter into Amrit Kaal.”
Highlighting the significance of the date, March 12, as the day Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Dandi March, PM Modi described it as a historic moment witnessing the beginning of a new era in independent India.

He praised the influence of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and the scope of the Amrit Mahotsav, noting that over 30 million people took the oath of Panch Pran during the Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal program.

PM Modi also mentioned the development of more than 200,000 Amrit Vatikas where over 20 million saplings were planted, the creation of over 70,000 Amrit Sarovars for water conservation, and campaigns like Har Ghar Tiranga and Meri Mati Mera Desh, which paid tribute to freedom fighters.

Addressing the neglect of the Sabarmati Ashram, PM Modi highlighted its shrinking from 120 acres to 5 acres and the reduction of buildings from 63 to 36, with only 3 open to visitors. He stressed the responsibility of all 1.4 billion Indians to preserve such heritage sites.

PM Modi praised the cooperation of the Ashram dwellers in reclaiming 55 acres of land and expressed the intention to preserve all Ashram buildings in their original form.
He attributed the long neglect of such monuments to lack of willpower, colonial mindset, and appeasement policies.

Drawing parallels with Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Shri Ram Janambhoomi in Ayodhya, where cooperation led to significant developments, PM Modi highlighted the importance of community involvement in preserving cultural heritage.

Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Kochrab Ashram and launched the Master Plan of the Gandhi Ashram Memorial at Mahatma Gandhi Ashram in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Agrawal was briefed on the operations situation of the border guarding force by Punjab Frontier Inspector General Atul Fulzele before he started his visit. It is worth mentioning that the Punjab frontier is a significant point, as the BSF has been posted at the 553 km-long India-Pakistan International Border to prevent infiltration, arms smuggling, and narcotics smuggling and ensure the cross-border apprehension of people.

Director General Nitin Agrawal will also join Independence Day events during his visit to the Punjab frontier as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Earlier on Saturday, the BSF chief was in the Kutch district in Gujarat, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for a Mooring Place at Koteshwar for the force and inaugurated the newly constructed Chidiyamod-Biarbet Link Road and OP Tower at BP No. 1164 in Harami Nala area in an important step towards improving border security and infrastructure.

The Mooring Place project, with an outlay of Rs 257 crore, was uncovered as proof of the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the capabilities of our border guarding forces. The strategically located Mooring Place, spreading over an area of 60 acres, caters as significant infrastructure for BSF Water Vessels in the Creek region.

This state-of-the-art facility will accelerate maritime security operations in the Creek area and remarkably enhance the availability of resources for BSF personnel deployed in the region.

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda, the Ganpat Bridge was lit up in the colours of the Tricolour on Sunday evening, and a Tiranga rally was hosted to mark the occasion.

A video shared by the Doda District Administration shows a large number of people carrying a long Indian flag above their heads while chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

The Lieutenant Governor said, “Today the sky of Jammu and Kashmir shines with the tricolour. I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has filled the hearts of the people of Kashmir with enthusiasm and united them. Today the youth are raising the tricolour in their hands.”

He added, “The spirit of ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ and ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ must unite us as we embark on this noble endeavour,” emanating confidence in the unwavering dedication of the people to be part of this monumental celebration.

The Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbagh Singh, also participated in the Tiranga rally and said, “We are feeling proud that we were part of the ‘Tiranga Rally’ today. All the necessary security arrangements are being made for Independence Day.”

On the Har Ghar Tiranga website, nearly 44 million people have posted selfies with the Indian flag, and the government has changed the caller tunes on phones to urge more people to follow suit.

Culture ministry official stated, “Our aim is to run it throughout the day to promote the Har Ghar Tiranga movement and encourage people to upload selfies with the flag.”

The website reports so as of 11:59am, 44963700million selfies have been submitted, and the number is increasing every second, the official stated.

Additionally, the website has been pinned with more than 50 million digital flags.

Amit Shah, the home minister, as well as the cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma and the actors Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, and Anupam Kher have also posted selfies.

The union government has contracted with roughly 200 manufacturers, including small and medium-sized businesses and self-help organisations, to produce the flags in order to have them displayed in 200 million homes between August 13 and August 15 in honour of 75 years of independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially commenced the government’s 75-week countdown to the 75th anniversary of Independence from Sabarmati Ashram on March 12, 2021.

These events, which are spread over 28 States, 8 UTs, and more than 150 countries, are centred on 5 major themes that guide our commemorative and festive endeavours. (Freedom struggle, Ideas@75, Resolve@75, Actions@75, Achievements@75).

The movement, a ministry of culture initiative to commemorate “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations for India’s 75th year of independence, will help “deepen our bond with the national flag,” PM Modi said in a tweet

Taking to Twitter he wrote, “This year, when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, let us strengthen the Har Ghar Tiranga Movement. Hoist the Tricolour or display it in your homes between 13th and 15th August. This movement will deepen our connect with the national flag,

In the path of achieving freedom, there have been several instances that let us hold our heads high. Every day had been a battle to expel the anarchist Britishers. Here is a list of the days that helped make August 15, 1947, happen.

Swadeshi Movement

The British Viceroy, Lord Curzon, with the aim of weakening the unity and curbing the Nationalist movement, devised a scheme to separate Bengal and reorganise the territorial distributions dividing the Hindus and Muslims in 1905. The “Boycott” resolution was adopted at a conference held at the Calcutta Town Hall on August 7, 1905, thus establishing the Swadeshi movement and bringing its previously fragmented leadership under one leadership. A hartal and a day of sorrow were called in Calcutta on October 16, 1905, the day the division came into effect. People observed a fast, and the kitchen hearth was left unlit. Hindus and Muslims tie Rakhis to each other to symbolise unity. It was successful and the partition had to be annulled.

Azad Hind Bharat

On December 30, 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian flag at the Gymkhana ground in Port Blair and declared the island to be independent when the entire nation was clutched under British rule. He further renamed the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Shaheed and Swaraj to mark the establishment of the Azad Hind Government, which also had its own currency and stamps. Upon raising the Azad Hind flag, Bose, the leader of the Azad Hind Provisional Government, also kept his word that the Indian National Army would be standing on Indian land by the end of 1943.

Champaran Satyagrah

The peasants in the Champaran district of Bihar were made to endure unimaginable hardships when Europeans compelled them to plant indigo, a blue dye. They weren’t paid enough for the indigo, and they couldn’t cultivate the food they needed. Tired of the agony, the peasants turned to Gandhi. As Gandhi’s first Satyagraha movement in India, the Champaran Satyagraha of 1917 is regarded as a pivotal uprising in the history of the Indian Independence Movement.

Civil Disobedience movement

Civil disobedience, also known as passive resistance, is the act of refusing to comply with the requests or orders of a government or occupying power without using force or other aggressive forms of resistance. Its typical goal is to pressure the government or occupying power into making concessions. On April 6, 1930, M.K. Gandhi started the Civil Disobedience Movement by breaking the government’s salt law by picking up a handful of salt after finishing the illustrious “Dandi March” from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi. He served as the movement’s inspiration and helped to mobilise the population in the liberation battle. Due to the disregard for the salt law, the Civil Disobedience Movement expanded across the nation.

Quit India Movement

August Kranti or the August Movement are other names for the Quit India movement. Mahatma Gandhi began the “do or die” Bharat Chhodo Andolan, often known as the Quit India movement, on August 8, 1942. All of the Congress Working Committee members began to be arrested on August 9 as soon as the movement began. While being placed under house imprisonment, Mahatma Gandhi was brought to Ahmednagar Fort. Approximately 940 persons lost their lives as a result of the British’s harshness during this nonviolent campaign. There were also 1630 injuries. More than 60 000 activists were detained at the same time. However, this movement brought the nation together.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to the people of Delhi regarding the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign that started in the country on Saturday, August 13.

Meanwhile, urging people of Delhi to hoist the national flag at their homes, Kejriwal said that the tricolor is the honor and pride of the country. Along with this, the Kejriwal government has planned to organize several patriotic programs to commemorate 75 years of independence.

Taking to Twitter, CM Kejriwal said, “The tricolor is our pride, the tricolor is our banner, the tricolor is our pride, the tricolor is our life, from today the tricolor campaign is starting in every household. You should also proudly put the tricolor at your home.”

Moreover, the Kejriwal government will celebrate the 75th anniversary of independence with ‘Har Haath Tiranga’ on the evening of 14 August.

Regarding this, CM Kejriwal had said, “I want to appeal to the people of the country to celebrate the eve of Independence Day with full enthusiasm. Let us all get together on 14 August at 5 pm and sing the national anthem with the tricolor in our hands and patriotism in our hearts.”

However, the ‘Har Ghar Tricolor’ campaign is started by the central government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier urged people to put the tricolor on their ‘display picture’ on social media accounts.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday unfurled the tricolor at his residence in Delhi. Shah also urged countrymen to hoist the flag at their homes from August 13 to 15. Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the countrymen are being encouraged to hoist the tricolor at their homes.

Taking to Twitter Shah said, “Tiranga is our pride. It unites and inspires everyone Indian. On PM Narendra Modi Ji’s clarion call of Har Ghar Tiranga, today hoisted a Tiranga at my residence in New Delhi and paid tributes to our valorous heroes who sacrificed everything for the Motherland.”

“I appeal to all countrymen to hoist the Tiranga at your home from 13th-15th August and to be a part of this campaign of awakening the spirit of patriotism in every heart. Also, upload your picture with the Tiranga on http://harghartiranga.com and inspire others for the same,” Shah said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. He called upon the people of the country to join it. PM Modi said that the tricolor not only has three colors, but it is also a reflection of our commitment to the present, our past glory, and our dreams for the future.

The freedom we have been bestowed is a corollary of the blood and sweat of the brave hearts who had the spark to outshine the mastery of British ascendency.

Let’s learn the untold story of some gallant fighters who gave us Free India and uprooted the enslavement.

Durgavati Devi

In an era where women were believed to be delicate dolls adorned with jewels, Durgawati Devi, also known as Durga Bhabhi, crafted history with her contributions to the National Freedom Struggle against the British East India Company. ‘The Agni of India’ married at the age of 11, became a member of Naujawan Bharat Sabha, and played an important role in the escape of Bhagat Singh after Saunders’ killing in 1928. She attempted to slay Lord Hailey (an atrocious Britisher) as a revenge for Bhagat Singh’s hanging but failed, consequently landing in prison. The brave lady was much beyond her time, bearing the flag of women’s empowerment.

Matingini Hazra

At the age of 62, the dauntless lady Matingini Hazra set an example of a zealous nationalist. In 1932, when the Civil disobedience movement was relaumched, Poor pesant Matingini became instrumental in the freedom struggle and started actively participating in movements aiming to dethrown the Britishers. In 1942, when the Congress workers decided to besiege the police stations and government offices, Hazra took the initiative to lead the movement. The 73-year-old lady paved the way along with six thousand supporters to capture Tamluk Police Station. The Crown police ordered the march to dissolve when it got close to the town, invoking Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code. A bullet struck Courageous Matangini as she moved forward and begged the cops not to shoot at the gathering. Despite being shot, she moved forward, changing Vande Matram. Drenched in blood, taking her last breath, the warrior held the tricolour high.

Bhikaji Rustom Cama

It was August 21, 1907. Thousands of people were gathered to attend the International Socialist Conference in Stuttgart, Germany. The fearless Bhikaji Rustom Cama took to the attention of those thousand representatives and unfurled the Indian Tricolour on the foreign ground, leaving the crowd awestruck.

She said…

“Behold, the flag of independent India is born! It has been made sacred by the blood of young Indians who sacrificed their lives in its honour. In the name of this flag, I appeal to lovers of freedom all over the world to support this struggle. “

The entire crowd was amazed by the unforeseen incident, and stood to salute the Indian flag.

Despite being aware of the repercussions of defying the British, the intrepid heroes, or shall I say heroines, exhibited an imbued patriotism.

To honour the tricolour ahead of India’s 75th Independence Day, the Congress and a number of party officials updated their profile pictures on Wednesday. This occurs a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested the nation to use “Tiranga” as their social media profile image.

The BJP leaders followed the exhortation of the PM immediately. The Congress leaders too joined the movement the next day, with a twist, displaying the picture of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru, holding the tricolour.

The official handle of Congress posted on the micro-blogging site captioned, “The tricolour is in our hearts, it is in our veins as blood. On December 31, 1929, Pandit Nehru, while hoisting the tricolour on the banks of the river Ravi, said, “Now the tricolour has been hoisted, it should not be bowed.”

MyTirangaMyPride pic.twitter.com/NwgIMUHpp4
— Congress (@INCIndia) August 3, 2022

It also read, “Let us all make this tricolour our identity, which gives the message of undivided unity of the country. Jai Hind “

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with other senior leaders of Congress, also changed their display picture to Jawaharlal Nehru’s picture holding the National Flag.

The Congress leader, Jairam Ramesh, tweeted, seemingly criticising the Centre’s choice to permit the production and sale of the tricolour made of polyester, “And that too in Khadi.”

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi stated that the 75th anniversary celebrations of Independence, known as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” are becoming a widespread movement. He invited people to use the image “Tiranga” as their social media profile pictures between August 2 and August 15.

Taking to Twitter, PM wrote, “It is a special 2nd of August today! At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for Har Ghar Tiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our tricolour. I have changed the DP on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same. “

The government of India has taken an important decision where people between the age of 18-59 in the country can get a booster dose or third dose of the COVID vaccine at government immunization centers for free.

As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the booster dose will be free for 75 days, starting from July 15. Under this, people will be able to get booster doses by going to government centres just like the two vaccine doses given earlier.

“India is celebrating 75 years of independence. Therefore, on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Kaal, it has been decided that from 15th July 2022 till the next 75 days, citizens above 18 years of age will be given booster doses free of cost,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told the media.

According to the Health Department’s data, the corona infection rate has increased. Therefore, the government has appealed to the people to get a booster dose to end corona.

Most of India’s population had taken their second dose about nine months ago. Studies conducted at the ICMR and other international research institutes have shown that antibody levels begin to drop about six months after two initial doses of the vaccine, and immunity builds up after a booster dose.

Earlier, the Union Health Ministry reduced the interval between the second and booster doses of the Covid vaccine from nine months to six months.

Moreover, as of now, India has administered 1,99,12,79,010 crore vaccine doses, and for the age group 12-14 years, over 3,76,28,293 crore 1st dose vaccines have been administered. However, in the last 24 hours, 11,15,068 COVID vaccines were administrated. Notably, the nationwide vaccination drive was started on January 16, 2021.
