According to a report by Pinkvilla, her upcoming project will focus on the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case, featuring Kareena Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana in lead roles.

According to the report, Meghna Gulzar’s next film draws inspiration from real events surrounding the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case. The incident involved four men accused of raping a 26-year-old veterinary doctor near Hyderabad in November 2019, who were subsequently arrested and later shot dead by the Hyderabad police during a supposed reconstruction of the crime scene. In 2022, the Supreme Court determined that the encounter had been staged.

What is the film about?

The report quotes a source close to the development saying, “Meghna has done all her research on the subject through the last few years and had a strong source material on place for her screenplay. She was moved by all that happened. Kareena and Ayushmann resonated with the emotions and are looking forward to team up on this special project.”

“Meghna is looking to take the film on floors by the end of 2024. It will arrive in the cinema halls in 2025,” the source added. The report stated that while both the actors have agreed to do the film “in principle,” the paperwork will be done within a week. This hard-hitting drama will mark Ayushmann and Kareena’s first collaboration together, as well as Meghna’s first with both actors.

Meghna Gulzar is renowned for her penchant for crafting films based on real-life events. Her recent directorial ventures include ‘Talvar’ (2015), featuring Irrfan Khan, which was based on the 2008 Noida double murder case and adapted from Avirook Sen’s book ‘Aarushi’. Her 2018 blockbuster ‘Raazi’, starring Alia Bhatt, was adapted from Harinder Singh Sikka’s biography ‘Calling Sehmat’. In 2020, she directed ‘Chhapaak’, starring Deepika Padukone, a biopic on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. In a conversation with ANI, the ‘Andhadhun’ actor highlighted the significance of inclusion and empowerment for the transgender community.
“This Food Truck has been inaugurated for a very special reason to encourage and include the trans community in society. It’s a small step…more people who think about society and are sensitive towards it should come forward and help them. They (trans) are an invisible and underprivileged community in our country and this food truck is a kind of push to make them self-reliant and financially independent so that they can find a place in society,” the actor said.

Dhananjay Chauhan, a prominent transgender activist from Chandigarh and the first transgender student at Panjab University, who advocates for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, expressed gratitude to Ayushmann for his initiative.

“The definition of progress of a country can be measured in how empowered, self-reliant and protected every community feels. Ayushmann has always been a true supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community in India. He has done this through his brand of cinema, as well as in the way he lives his life or how he conducts himself on social media. Chandigarh is his home. So, it is really special that he has stepped forward to help the transgender community here,” she said.

“I strongly feel that we don’t need anything special from society. We only need them to see us, hear us and accept us. Using pictures of Tahira’s courageous fight against the illness, Ayushmann made a heartfelt message on World Cancer Day, praising her indomitable spirit.

He included several photos in the post, the first of which showed the couple taking a mirror selfie and the last of which included Tahira displaying her scar from the surgery. The post ends with a boomerang video of Tahira working out. The third image features Tahira in an orange t-shirt with denim and a stylish cap.

On World Cancer Day the couple took to social media to express their love.

Tahira Kashyap was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. She took to her Instagram account and made the shocking revelation.

Her post read, “An opportunity to give competition to the Kardashians just went wasted! A week back I mentioned about ‘my badge of honour’ that I was going to receive. And I did and am happy to share about it with the intention of it being received with love. As that’s the only reason I am posting it. Love for self and gratitude for the universe. The picture might be disturbing for some, but these drains have become my dumbells for a few days. I was detected with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) in my right breast with high grade malignant cells. Simply put stage 0 cancer/ pre-cancerous stage, with cancer cells multiplying in a contained area. The result I have become a half Indian version of Angelina Jolie (since only one breast was involved)!”

“I told my doctor now is the time to give some competition to the Kardashians since Pamela is passe. But no one listened to me, so now I have a portion of my back tissue in my breast. Perhaps now I can do chin-ups with my breasts! Jokes apart, this obstacle has given me a new definition of life. Respect it’s unpredictability and have the faith and courage to be the hero of your own drama of life. The invincible human spirit is God like, gives you the courage to endure and the will to revive. There is nothing that human spirit can’t do,” she added.

Ayushmann and Tahira got married in 2008 and have two kids, a son Virajveer and a daughter Varushka.

Box office is important to Ayushmann Khurrana, but progressive films are more important. The popularity of his most recent film, Dream Girl 2, has not only served as a tremendous validation, but it has also taught him a valuable lesson: it is time to dream big. Since his 2012 acting debut Vicky Donor, Ayushmann has served as the face of small, highly regarded films. Over time, the actor successfully established himself as a leading man in forward-thinking movies that did well at the box office. before the pandemic, that is.

In just two years, Ayushmann experienced the failure of four straight movies, starting with the romantic drama Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui in 2021 and continuing with Anek by Anubhav Sinha, Doctor G, and An Action Hero. “My movies have always received favorable reviews from both the critics and the general public. However, I had to add more mass. Out of all my peers at the time, I was the only one who had to change gears. I had to do it for this (the movie). The numbers make you a bankable star, giving you the power to choose scripts that are to your taste, and there was no other way for me to do my kind of cinema again. Do your brand of cinema, but do it in a more expansive way. It is difficult. But I’m happy to see that movies are once again evolving; audiences are returning to theaters, and low- and medium-budget productions are succeeding. I’m hoping this era lasts,” he says.

Ayushmann Khurrana is going through an amazing time in his professional life due to ‘Dream Girl 2’ blockbuster performance at the box office. As he soaked in a celebratory spirit, he remembered his late father, P Khurana, saying how he motivated him to become a good actor.

“I wish my father was here to experience this. Dream Girl was his favourite film. He was very proud of how I attempted something so different. I remember he was in splits while watching the film. He had predicted that the film will be a roaring success. I wish he could have watched Dream Girl 2 too,” he shared.

“I know he would have loved it and I would have loved watching him laugh again with all his heart. His laughter was infectious and he was my biggest supporter. His unflinching faith in me has made me who I’m today,” Ayushmann added.

Ayushmann said that his father was his biggest cheerleader.

“I walked the path less travelled because he told me that I was the creator of my own destiny and that I should always do what my heart says. I know he is blessing me from above. His profound words will always resonate with me ‘beta public ki navz samjho’,” he said.

Ayushmann’s father Khurrana passed away on May 19. He was popularly known in North India for his contribution to the field of astrology. Hailing from Chandigarh, he had written books based on his knowledge of the subject.

Actors Ayushmann Khurrana attended the trailer launch of ‘Dream Girl 2’ along with co-actor Ananya Panday.

He arrived at the event in a black and white quirky jacket with yellow borders. Along with it, he wore a black T-shirt. Ananya also looked beautiful in a white t-shirt which she teamed up with a trouser.

‘Dream Girl 2’ trailer turned out to be a laugh riot. In the film, Ayushmann will be seen pretending to be a woman named Pooja.

He’s not only voicing Pooja this time but he can also be seen dressing like her. He’s been flirting with several men.

The trailer also gave a glimpse of the characters of Ananya Panday, Manjot Singh, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, Seema Pahwa, and Vijay Raaz.

Ayushmann said about his movie, “For the first time I saw myself and fall in love in a right way. This dream girl 2 is such a dream story. After watching the first one, our dream girl would like to see this too because as we had heard the story. When we heard it, we felt that it must happen. It was like very organic sequel to recreate.” He added, “Without this star cast it was impossible for this movie to happen. Raaj Shaandilyaa and my tuning are on a different level and the narrations he gave were absolutely fantastic and one of the best directors and Ekta, I mean what a creator. Ananya Pandey is a great value addition. And this time the star cast, we have buffet that you’ll have a lot of fun.”

The film was directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Ektaa R Kapoor. The film will be released in cinemas on August 25th.

Ayushmann Khurrana On His International Tours

Fans can expect a lot from Ayushmann Khurrana on the musical front.

Ayushmann has two back-to-back international tours lined up. He will be heading to the US and Canada, and also the UK to enthral audiences with his music. Proud to showcase India and its music to the world, Ayushmann said, “I’m thrilled to be taking Indian music and Indian culture to the global audience. I’m a proud Indian and I love cinema. International tours give me the opportunity to showcase my country to the world and I always look forward to it. Cinema is one of the biggest identity cards of India and I have seen how it brings joy to people and unifies people to have a shared community experience.”

He added, “I have two tours lined up this year. One that will see me travel to US and Canada with my band and second that takes me to the UK. The entertainer in me is screaming to take the stage and perform live in front of a sea of people in these two countries!”

Ayushmann will perform in 8 cities in the US including Dallas, San Jose, Seattle, Washington DC, New Jersey, Atlanta, Orlando, Chicago in USA, as well as Toronto, Canada in July and August.

The actor, also a singer known for massive hits like Paani Da Rang, Nazm Nazm and Haareya, will also do a two-city UK tour in the month of September this year.

Ayushmann is also all set to come up with a new song titled ‘Raatan Kaaliyan’.

The song will be out on July 4.

Sharing more deets about the track, Ayushmann said, “I will continue to be an actor-artiste as it satisfies me creatively! When I get to be a part of good, fresh, disruptive films as an actor, it’s an adrenaline rush and I can tell you that I feel the same rush when I get to be a part of new music. Singer-Composer Mika Singh has condoled the death of actor Ayushmann Khurrana and Aparshakti Khurrana’s father P Khurana.

Sharing his personal experience, the singer wrote on Instagram, “I remember meeting Mr. P khurana ji he used to come on zee punjabi. We met couple of time in chandigarh and delhi . He Was just not a great man but also very down to earth like true punjabi. May waheguru bless his soul rest in peace more strength to his family.”

P Khurrana passed away on Friday morning. “It’s with our deep sadness to inform that Ayushmann and Aparshakti Khurana’s father, Astrologer P Khurana passed away this morning at 10:30 am in Mohali, owing to a prolonged incurable ailment. We are indebted for all your prayers and support during this time of personal loss,” the statement read.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Aparshakti Khurrana have lost their father, P Khurrana. For those unaware, their father was a renowned Astrologer.

The Doctor G actor was extremely close to his father. Through an Instagram post sometime back, he had a penned a note for him that read, “We got it from him. The discipline. The ‘Doctor G’ actor Ayushmann Khurrana is expected to perform in 8 cities. The actor is ready to kickstart his solo US tour, and his concert is ready to take place in July. According to sources, the actor is expected to enthrall audiences in 8 American cities, and he will be seen touring Dallas, San Jose, Seattle, Washington DC, New Jersey, Atlanta, Orlando, and Chicago in USA, as well as Toronto in Canada in July and August this year.

Talking about his tour, the ‘Doctor G’ actor said, “Music has enabled me to connect with countless people and I constantly look forward to my live concerts because I get to experience this connection first hand. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has used all the time he had at hand due to coronavirus to find some really brilliant scripts. He is excited to translate these into films and hopes that his next slate of projects will manage to pull people to theatres in 2021.

Ayushmann, whose brand of cinema is now lovingly called ‘The Ayushmann Khurrana Genre’ says, “It has been a reflective year for me and it has made me focus on my priorities. I have been fortunate enough to read some really cracking material through the year and have managed to handpick some unique films which I can’t wait for audiences to see.”

He adds, “The content landscape has been changed by the pandemic and the industry has to make superlative cinema to pull people back to the theatres. Anything less than that would not do the job. I have tried my best to ensure that my next few releases are superbly fresh in terms of storytelling and I will wait for the reaction of audiences to validate my content choices for 2021.”

2020 saw Ayushmann shatter a huge stereotype as he became the first Bollywood leading star ever to play the role of a gay man on screen in the film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. No big actor had ever ventured into this space and Ayushmann managed to bring this important social issue out in the open through his belief.

Ayushmann says, “I have been trying to normalise taboo conversations in India through my cinema and it was good to shatter a big stereotype that leading men cannot play a gay man on screen. Every time someone told me that I was making a mistake by doing this film, I couldn’t get myself to believe that people of my country would not be accepting of their big screen heroes trying to trigger positive conversations.”

He adds, “Right from my debut film Vicky Donor, I have tried to do my bit to have a constructive discussion with society about the need for change. I have strongly felt that through cinema, we could tell society to widen its gaze, to think ahead and change the nation. Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan definitely did its best to spark an important conversation about same sex love.”

The year also saw Ayushmann being roped in by UNICEF to be a Celebrity Advocate and raise awareness on their marquee global initiative Ending Violence Against Children (EVAC) in India. As a parent himself, Ayushmann wants to keep championing this important cause.

He says, “I’m grateful that I could associate with UNICEF this year and learn a lot about how children are vulnerable to violence. This campaign has become close to my heart.”

While 2020 has been a lacklustre year for Bollywood with no big film releases since March due to the pandemic, Ayushmann’s credibility and equity has soared through the roof. He was voted as one of the most influential people in the world by TIME magazine due to his conversation starting social entertainers.

Ayushmann sees this honour as a huge responsibility. He says, “TIME magazine validated that my life choices, my content choices and my belief system has been accurate. I consider myself as a citizen who only speaks through work. Through my brand of cinema, I speak about things that I think matter.”
