Watch: UK MP Bob Blackman Swears In: Balancing Traditions with Bible and Bhagavad Gita in Hand

Conservative MP Bob Blackman swore allegiance to King Charles in the House of Commons on Wednesday, holding the King James Bible in one hand and the Bhagavad Gita in the other.

On social media platform X, Blackman expressed his pride in taking the oath, stating, “Proud to have taken my oath of allegiance to HM King Charles on the King James Bible and the Gita as we return to Parliament after the General Election.”

This occasion was not the first instance of Blackman using the Bhagavad Gita during the oath-taking process. In 2019, Blackman, who represents Harrow East—a constituency with a significant Hindu population—took the oath with the Bhagavad Gita for the first time, despite not being of Indian origin.

Blackman has a history of honoring the Bhagavad Gita in the British Parliament, being recognized as the first MP to host a talk on the Bhagavad Gita in the House of Commons.

In 2020, Blackman again took the oath with the Gita in one hand and the Bible in the other following the elections. Rishi Sunak, Alok Sharma, and Shailesh Vara followed a similar trend that year. In 2022, Rishi Sunak, the first Indian-origin Prime Minister, took his oath of allegiance on the Bhagavad Gita upon being elected MP in the House of Commons.

Earlier in 2024, Blackman raised concerns over the British media’s coverage of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Speaking in the UK Parliament, he noted, “In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, the Ram Mandir was consecrated. This was of great joy to Hindus across the world as being the birthplace of Lord Ram.”

He criticized the BBC for emphasizing the site’s history as a mosque rather than acknowledging its ancient temple heritage and the allocation of land for a new mosque nearby.

Chief Priest Laxmikant Dixit, a key figure in the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and a participant in its foundation-laying ceremony, passed away on Saturday.

Dixit, aged approximately 90, breathed his last at 6:45 in the morning on Saturday. Known for his unwavering devotion to the Hindu community and his leadership qualities, he conducted several important ceremonies at the Ram Temple, including the auspicious Pran Pratishtha ceremony in 2022.

His mortal remains are currently at his residence, and the final rites (Antim Sanskar) are scheduled to take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Manikarnika Ghat, a sacred cremation ground in Ayodhya. The ceremony is expected to be attended by dignitaries, followers, and community members who held the priest in high regard.

Authorities have made all necessary arrangements for a smooth conduct of the last rites ceremony, including safety and security measures to manage the expected gathering of mourners and well-wishers.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sharad Sharma announced on Thursday that the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has received substantial donations, with devotees from across the country showing their dedication to Lord Ram.

“Devotees are demonstrating their deep devotion towards Lord Ram by donating money, gold, and silver. Their sentiments are pure and sacred,” Sharma stated.

He emphasized that the financial prosperity of the Ram Mandir is ensured by the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. “Ram Lalla is seated there. Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was accompanied by Goddess Lakshmi. She would never allow any financial instability at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The temple’s magnificence will always be upheld,” Sharma asserted.

Sharma further highlighted the diverse modes through which devotees are contributing. “Everyone who visits donates something. We consider those who donate at the Ram Mandir very fortunate. Some offer grains, others contribute clothes and money. Within just 2-3 days, devotees have donated crores of rupees. The online donations will be tallied by the banks, although the exact figures are yet to be disclosed. Physical donations can be estimated.”

Despite the cold and fog, devotees continued to flock to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple for darshan of Ram Lalla, three days after the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony. The ceremony, held on Monday, saw the unveiling of the Ram Lalla idol in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and approximately 8,000 invitees, including eminent guests.

On January 22, 2024, the Pran Pratishtha ceremony for the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya Dham is scheduled to take place. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officiate the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ in accordance with established rituals.

The towering 50-meter or 160-foot-high sanctuary dedicated to Lord Ram Lalla has been constructed on the site where the Babri Masjid stood for centuries before being demolished in 1992 by karsevaks led by the then Bharatiya Janata Party president, Lal Krishna Advani.

Approximately 7,000 guests, including politicians, industrialists, celebrities, and sports personalities, are anticipated to participate in the pran-pratishtha ceremony, set to commence around 12:20 pm.

The schedule for the events on January 22 is as follows:

At 10:25 am, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Ayodhya, proceeding to the venue via helicopter from the Ayodhya airport.
At 10:55 am, Modi is expected to reach the premises of the Ram temple.
Between 11 am and 12 pm, the prime minister may embark on a tour of the Ram Mandir premises.
From 12:05 pm to 1 pm, the pran-pratishtha or consecration ceremony will commence, with Modi overseeing the rituals.
Around 1 pm, Modi will leave the temple premises to address a public gathering of approximately 7,000 individuals.
At 2:10 pm, Modi is scheduled to visit Kuber ka Tila, where the ancient temple of Bhagwan Shiv has been restored.

Ayodhya set for Ram Lalla’s grand “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony today

The Pran Prathistha ceremony will be held on Monday in the temple town of Ayodhya amid tight security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, saints, and a number of other notable guests will be present for the historic ‘Pran Pratistha’ ritual of Ram Lalla. A stunning musical performance called “Mangal Dhwani” will commemorate the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony, according to a Sunday announcement from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Starting at 10 am, the event will showcase some of the biggest names in the music industry.

In Delhi, LG VK Saxena on Saturday approved the closure of government offices and educational institutions for half day till 2:30 PM on January 22.

The establishment of a dial 112 monitoring center at Lata Mangeshkar Chowk by the Uttar Pradesh government has resulted in increased city security. In order to guarantee the safe and orderly execution of the massive temple event, more than 13,000 security guards have been stationed in and around Ayodhya, according to Uttar Pradesh Police Department officials on Sunday. Special DG Prashant Kumar told that this is a major project for the UP Police. It presents a chance as well as a challenge. Ayodhya Ram Mandir consecration: Allahabad University students creating world’s largest rangoli of Ram temple, Ram Lalla

An alliance between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and a group of Allahabad University students is trying to make the biggest rangoli of Ram Mandir and Ram Lalla in the world. On Monday, in conjunction with the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, the 50-foot-long and 30-foot-wide rangoli will be unveiled. Thirty women and ten men make up the student body that is employed at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad camp in the Magh Mela region. To get the rangoli listed in the Guinness World Records, an application has been made.
