Popular YouTuber and BJP member Manish Kashyap resigns via Facebook Live, questioning his impact in the party. He hints at joining forces with the public and even contesting in upcoming assembly elections.

Manish Kashyap Ends BJP Journey in Frustration

In a sincere and emotional Facebook Live broadcast, famous YouTuber Manish Kashyap announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kashyap publicly questioned his efficiency inside the party, expressing great dissatisfaction. “I couldn’t even save myself while being in the BJP. How can I help others?” he asked, signaling the personal struggles that led to his decision to quit.

Vows to Continue Activism Outside Party Lines

While stepping away from BJP, Kashyap made it clear that his activism is far from over. He promised to raise his voice through different platforms and methods, hinting at a more independent path forward. Without revealing too much, he suggested that he might contest the upcoming assembly elections, indicating a possible shift towards direct political engagement.

A Tumultuous Tenure Marked by Controversy and Conflict

Kashyap’s resignation comes in the wake of several difficult incidents. Last month, he was reportedly attacked by junior doctors at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after a confrontation. Earlier, he made headlines for sharing videos that falsely depicted migrant labourers from Bihar being harassed in Tamil Nadu. This controversy led to his arrest in March, although he was later granted bail by the Madras High Court.

His tenure with the BJP began just last year, in the presence of senior party leaders like Manoj Tiwari and Anil Baluni. Kashyap had also contested the 2020 Bihar assembly elections from the Chanpatia seat under his official name, Tripurari Kumar Tiwari.
</excerpt>

NEW DELHI: With Assembly elections in Bihar scheduled later this year, the BJP has started identifying residents of the state who are settled in other parts of the country.

The party has appointed several MPs to lead outreach teams in these states to highlight the achievements of the party and seek support, sources said.

According to sources, the BJP has formed a special team of Bihar MPs to focus on state residents living in different parts of the country and has collected proper data on them.

The MPs have been tasked with identifying Bihari residents who either hold voter ID cards of the states they currently reside in or still possess voter ID cards from Bihar.

Party leadership has also instructed these MPs to spend at least one week every month in the assigned states to meet the Bihari community and highlight the work done by the NDA government in Bihar.

Sources added that in each state, MPs have been assigned the responsibility of identifying non-resident Biharis districtwise, along with details about their professions. For instance, in Gujarat and Haryana, the BJP has already compiled district-wise data of Bihari residents.

This data also tracks the growth of the nonresident population since 2020. In Gujarat’s Surat, the Bihari population is around 2.53 lakh, an increase of nearly 50,000 from 2020.

Similarly, in Ahmedabad, the Bihari population has grown from 39,000 in 2020 to approximately 50,000. Data has also been compiled for districts such as Kutch, Vadodara, Rajkot, Valsad, Bharuch, and Jamnagar.

In Haryana, the data covers districts like Faridabad, Sonipat, Gurugram, Panipat, and Karnal, all of which have seen a significant increase in Bihari residents over the past five years. Chhattisgarh has also been mapped, with data collected from districts such as Korba, Raipur, Surguja, Raigarh, Bilaspur, and Koriya.

Sources said the party believes it is important to connect with non-resident Biharis to inform them about the NDA government’s achievements in Bihar and to encourage their families back home to vote for the alliance in the upcoming elections.

The BJP is part of the NDA alliance in Bihar, which includes Nitish Kumar’s JDU, the LJP (RV) led by Chirag Paswan, Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM, and others. In the 2020 Assembly elections, the BJP won 74 seats, emerging as the second-largest party behind Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The BJP plans to highlight several welfare schemes launched by the Narendra Modi-led central government, as well as initiatives of the NDA government in the state. The party also aims to emphasise key infrastructure and development projects announced in Bihar by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. Elections for the 243-member Bihar Assembly are expected to take place in October and November.

The BJP-led NDA will face off against the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, which includes the Congress, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and Left parties. All major political parties have begun preparing their campaign strategies for what is expected to be a crucial and closely contested election.

</excerpt>

With one year to go for the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that a “ghost political party” was trying to register at least 20,000 – 30,000 fake voters in every Assembly seat across the State ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.

Banerjee did not name any particular political party but through her words, made it clear that she was targeting the BJP and the Election Commission. She said: “Babus have come to Bengal and are sitting here to register 20,000 – 30,000 fake voters in every Assembly seat. The Election Commission of India will conduct the polls by sending Central forces. Voters, who do not belong to Bengal, will come and cast their votes. We will foil your plans.”
She alleged that voters from Bihar were being registered in West Bengal through online registration. She alleged that goons were being brought from Bihar and being settled in West Bengal.

Banerjee, separately, targeted the BJP while referring to the results of the Delhi and Maharashtra Assembly polls. “BJP, how did the votes increase by 40 lakh in Maharashtra? What did you do in Delhi? One day the truth will come out. While some people solve mathematics problems earlier, others may take time,” she said.
Suvendu Adhikari, BJP legislator and Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, hit back saying: ““She (Banerjee) is the Chief Minister for 14 years. Does she even know what she is saying? Who are the registration officers of the electoral roll? The District Magistrates. We have identified 1.6 million duplicate voters. We will get their names deleted before the 2026 polls.”

He said that for the past one year, he had been raising his voice about this problem. “Everybody knows who is behind the influx of Muslims and Rohingyas into West Bengal.”
CPI(M) State Committee member Sujan Chakraborty said: “Everybody knows who is an expert in bringing over people from across the borders. That person is Mamata Banerjee. It is under her guidance that people are crossing the India-Bangladesh border. It is the Trinamool Congress leaders at the district level who are facilitating their registration and giving them all help to get Aadhaar cards, voter cards, ration cards. In every booth, there are at least 60 names of people who are untraceable, or are already dead. Thousands of such names are there in each and every Assembly constituency.”

In a post on social media platform X, Modi encouraged voters to actively take part in the “festival of democracy” on the first day of polling. He also extended special congratulations to first-time voters, adding humorously, “Remember – first vote, then refreshment!”

Polling for the first phase began at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, with voters across 43 constituencies in 15 districts casting their ballots. The election will determine the fate of 683 candidates, including 73 women.

Ahead of the election, mock voting was conducted at various polling stations, and visuals showed long queues of voters, including many women. Extensive security measures have been put in place for the elections, which will run until 5:00 PM, with polling at 950 sensitive booths concluding at 4:00 PM.

Over 200 security forces have been deployed to ensure a smooth and secure election process.

The BJP-led NDA is challenging the JMM-led coalition, with prominent candidates like former Chief Minister Champai Soren (BJP) in Seraikela, and Congress leader Ajoy Kumar in Jamshedpur East, facing off against Purnima Das Sahu, daughter-in-law of former CM Raghubar Das. BJP’s Geeta Koda, wife of former CM Madhu Koda, is contesting against Congress’ Sona Ram Sinku in Jaganathpur. The JMM has fielded sitting Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji from Ranchi.

Voting for the remaining 38 constituencies will take place on November 20, with the results scheduled for November 23. In the last assembly elections, JMM won 30 seats, BJP secured 25, and Congress took 16.

</excerpt>

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday chaired the Central Election Committee (CEC) to finalise the candidates for Maharashtra, in which 63 seats were discussed and next meeting to take place on October 25 in the national capital.

The Congress will also hold a meeting with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners in Mumbai on Tuesday to finaluse the seat sharing formula as several seats still remains to be finalised for the crucial Maharashtra assembly polls.

The CEC meeting for Maharashtra at the party headquarters was chaired by Kharge and also attended by CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, party General Secretary organisation KC Venugopal, Madhusudan Mistry, Ambika Soni, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Maharashtra incharge Ramesh Chenithala, state unit chief Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat and others.

According to party sources, during the meeting out of 96 seats screened, 63 seats were discussed. The source said that there was a consensus on at least 51 seats during the meeting.

The source said that the party will release the first list of candidates for Maharashtra on October 23.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Thorat said, “Out of 96 seats screened, 63 seats were discussed during the CEC.”

He said that the MVA meeting scheduled in Mumbai on Tuesday is a “crucial meeting” as it will help in finalizing most of the issues in the state for the seat sharing formula.

Even Chenithala said that 63 seats were discussed today in the CEC today and next CWC to discuss the rest of candidates will take place on October 25.

He also said that MVA meeting will take place on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to finalise the seat sharing deal.

The Congress is likely to field 110 candidates in Maharashtra, while the rest of the swats it will give to Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar led NCP and other parties.

Earlier, ahead of the CEC meeting, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi separately held a detailed discussion for over 20 minutes, sources said.

In Maharashtra, the Congress is facing a hard bargaining from the Shiv Sena (UBT) on several seats in Mumbai as well as in Vidarbha region.

The source said that out of 36 Mumbai seats, Congress wants to contest on 18 whereas the Shiv Sena is keen on giving 13 seats. The seats of Ghatkopar, Varsova, Byculla and Dharavi are said to be bone of contention in Mumbai between the two parties.

Similarly, in nine seats of Vidarbha, whixh is considered a strong Congress bastion, Shiv Sena wants to contest on six seats. Whereas the Congress wants rhe Shiv Sena to focus on its strong belt of Marathwada, Konkan and other regions.

The Maharashtra will go to polls on November 20 in single phase whereas counting of votes will takemplace on November 23.

The MVA is eyeing to make a comeback in the state. The MVA did fairly well in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. The Congress had won 13 seats while the Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP-SP had won 9 seats each out of the 48 seats in the state.

</excerpt>

Hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Haryana elections, PM Modi took aim at the Congress, branding it a “parasitic party” that undermines its allies. Defying exit poll predictions, which had leaned toward a Congress victory, the BJP comfortably crossed the halfway mark in Haryana’s 90-seat assembly, winning 48 seats. Meanwhile, Congress was limited to just 37 seats.

PM Modi’s Address: Sharp Criticism for Congress

Addressing BJP workers at the party’s headquarters, PM Modi lashed out at the Congress, accusing it of attempting to tarnish national institutions. His remarks appeared to be in response to Congress’s complaint to the Election Commission, where they questioned the slow progress of vote counting.

“Congress is a parasitic party that swallows its allies. They want to build a nation where people hate their heritage and question every institution that this country takes pride in,” Modi said. He further alleged that Congress consistently aims to “tarnish” the image of national institutions like the Election Commission, police, and judiciary.

Congress Left Stunned by Defeat

The Congress, visibly shaken by the outcome, called the Haryana election results “totally unexpected” and “completely surprising.” They argued that the result was counter-intuitive and did not align with ground realities. Despite their protests, the party has stated it will not accept the election results, casting doubts on the fairness of the process.

Jammu and Kashmir: BJP Rises to Second Largest Party

In Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP also made significant gains, emerging as the second-largest party by winning 29 seats. PM Modi highlighted that Congress’s poor performance continues to hurt its allies, referencing their weakening position in both the recent Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

“Congress’s allies have repeatedly suffered because of their association with the party, and today’s results have once again confirmed it,” he said, recalling how half of Congress’s Lok Sabha seats were won with the support of their allies.

Congress’s Allegations and PM Modi’s Response

PM Modi also responded to Congress’s allegations against the Election Commission, recalling how the party and its “urban Naxalite” allies had approached the Supreme Court before the Lok Sabha results, attempting to discredit the Election Commission’s impartiality. He accused Congress of misleading the public and habitually questioning the credibility of institutions.

“Congress has always sought to mislead the nation and cast doubts on the impartiality of our institutions. This has been their habit, and they continue to shamelessly do so,” Modi remarked.

Election Commission’s Response

The Election Commission responded strongly to Congress’s complaints, calling them “irresponsible” and “unfounded.” The poll panel criticized Congress for giving credence to “malafide narratives” that sought to undermine the democratic process.

In the aftermath of this decisive win, the BJP’s success has further cemented its position, while the Congress is left to reevaluate its strategies amidst the growing criticism.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters in Haryana to participate in the Assembly elections to help keep the state free from corruption. In a post on X, he stated, “The people of Veer Bhoomi Haryana are voting today. Your vote is essential in keeping Haryana free from corruption and financial misconduct. I encourage all my sisters and brothers to vote to sustain development and elect a government that extends its reach from one district to every village in Haryana.”

Shah emphasized that only a government with a proven record of development and good governance—not one that makes empty promises—can truly benefit the people of Haryana. Over two crore citizens are eligible to vote in this election, which will determine whether the BJP maintains power for a third consecutive term or if the Congress returns after a decade-long absence.

This election is significant, with the BJP seeking to secure a third term, while the Congress hopes to reclaim power by capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments and addressing issues like farmer and wrestler protests. Key players in this contest include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and alliances such as the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP).

Voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm, with 1,031 candidates contesting across 90 assembly constituencies and 20,632 polling booths set up for the process. Results for the Haryana Assembly elections will be announced alongside those for Jammu and Kashmir on October 8. In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP won 40 of the 90 seats, forming a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats, while Congress obtained 31 seats. However, the JJP later parted ways with the coalition.

</excerpt>

As the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections approach, questions are looming over whether the Congress will return to power after a decade. With voting scheduled for October 5 and results on October 8, the situation in Congress seems uncertain due to growing internal rifts and defections. While Congress has already announced candidates for 41 out of the 90 seats, the remaining 49 seats are yet to be finalized. However, the announcement of candidates has already sparked unrest within the party, with several leaders resigning and joining rival parties.

Internal Struggles and Resignations in Haryana Congress

The factionalism within Haryana Congress has intensified following the release of the candidate list. In Sadhoura, the nomination of Renu Bala prompted leaders like Brijpal and Pinky Chappar to leave the party. In Nilokheri, former minister Ramkumar Valmiki has decided to contest as an independent. Similarly, in Shahabad, Ramkaran Kala’s nomination has caused friction, with Prem Hingakhedi voicing his discontent. In Baroda, the nomination of Induraj Singh Narwal has led to speculations that Jitendra Hooda might also run as an independent. Meanwhile, Dr. Kapoor Narwal, a close aide of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has already resigned from the party over these disputes.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda vs. Kumari Selja – The Power Struggle

The rivalry between former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Congress General Secretary Kumari Selja has come to the forefront ahead of the 2024 elections. While Selja, a prominent Dalit leader and MP from Sirsa, has openly staked her claim for the Chief Minister’s position, Hooda appears to hold significant influence in candidate selection. On September 6, Congress announced two lists with 32 candidates, including 28 sitting MLAs. Reports suggest that Hooda had more sway in the selection process, with 28 of his preferred candidates getting tickets, compared to just four from Selja’s camp.

In a recent interview, Kumari Selja took a veiled dig at Hooda, questioning his control over the party and reaffirming her claim to the CM post. She noted that during her campaign trail, she was often referred to as the “next CM” by party workers.

Congress’ Position in the Haryana Elections

Congress has been out of power in Haryana for a decade. In the 2014 and 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 and 31 seats respectively, forming a government with the support of the 10-seat-strong JJP in 2019. Ahead of the 2024 elections, Congress sought an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but talks fell through due to disagreements over seat-sharing. As a result, Congress is now contesting all 90 seats independently, despite Rahul Gandhi’s preference for an alliance with AAP.

With growing internal dissent and the failure to secure an alliance, it remains to be seen whether Congress can overcome its internal challenges and mount a successful challenge to the BJP-JJP government in Haryana.

Gandhi, alongside NC president Farooq Abdullah, focused on the promise of statehood without mentioning Article 370. Meanwhile, 56% of people view Gandhi’s approach as a divide-and-rule policy.
</excerpt>

Addressing his first rally in Kashmir ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday vowed to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, calling it the responsibility of every citizen of the country. He accused the BJP of stripping the people of J&K of their rights and dignity and said the next government in the region will be formed by the INDIA bloc, describing it as a “fight for justice.”

Standing alongside National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, Gandhi avoided mentioning Article 370, whose abrogation led to J&K’s reorganization into two Union territories. While the NC has pledged to revoke this move in its manifesto, Gandhi focused on the promise of statehood.

Gandhi acknowledged that both the Congress and NC had initially sought statehood before the elections but are now fully committed to restoring it as soon as possible. He assured that whether the current BJP government or a future INDIA alliance government in Delhi, statehood would be returned to J&K.

56% of people believe that Kashmir, by giving the label of “outsiders,” Rahul Gandhi is adopting the divide-and-rule policy.

Here’s the Survey:

Q1. Do you think in Kashmir, by giving the label of “outsiders,” Rahul Gandhi is adopting the divide-and-rule policy?

Q2. Do you think Rahul Gandhi is dividing people across the country by labeling them as outsiders and focusing on caste differences?

Q3. Do you think the accusation that jobs and wealth are being given to outsiders instead of Kashmiris is valid?

Q5. According to you, who is considered an “outsider” in Kashmir?

</excerpt>

Aiming to sway voters ahead of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi combined political and emotional appeals while launching his party’s campaign on Wednesday. With elections set to begin in less than two weeks, Gandhi focused on the restoration of statehood and highlighted the deep-rooted ties his family has with the region, stretching back to his great-grandfather, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its first election in nearly a decade—and its first since becoming a Union Territory after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019—Gandhi emphasized the need to restore statehood. He also criticized J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, labeling him a ‘raja’ (king), and accused the BJP-led central government of mismanaging the region.

The BJP, gearing up to commence its campaign on Friday with rallies led by Home Minister Amit Shah, responded by accusing the Congress-National Conference alliance of receiving support from militants.

During a rally in Dooru for Congress candidate Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Gandhi, alongside National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, pointed to several central decisions that had been reversed as evidence of the opposition I.N.D.I.A alliance’s growing influence. He assured that a vote for the I.N.D.I.A alliance would lead to the restoration of statehood for J&K.

“In 1947, we removed the kings and established a democratic government. We gave the country a Constitution. Yet, today a ‘raja’ is ruling Jammu and Kashmir. His title is LG, but he acts as a king. Your resources are being misappropriated and your rights stripped away. Restoring statehood to J&K is crucial because it wasn’t just your state that was taken; your wealth and rights have been too,” Gandhi said. At another rally in Anantnag, Gandhi spoke of the personal connections he and his family have with the region.

</excerpt>

The Congress party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) is set for a high-stakes meeting on September 2-3 to finalise candidates for the crucial Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections.

With the Screening Committee of Haryana, led by senior leader Ajay Maken, concluding its five-day marathon deliberations, the stage is now set for intense negotiations as the party brass works to balance competing factions within Haryana’s Congress unit.

After five days of discussions, the Screening Committee has prepared a list of proposed candidates for all 90 assembly seats in Haryana. These names will now be submitted to the CEC, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who will have the final say. The first list of candidates is expected to be released on Tuesday, September 3. “The fifth-day meeting of the Screening Committee concluded today. Tomorrow, the Congress Election Committee will meet. The day after tomorrow, Congress will release its first list of candidates”, said Haryana Congress In-charge Deepak Babaria. “Panels for all constituencies have been finalized, as single names have been suggested for many panels, while several others have two names”, he added.

Party insiders revealed that the Screening Committee has opted to re-field most sitting MLAs while also suggesting two names for several constituencies, leaving the final decision to the CEC. While the selection of candidates for Jammu & Kashmir is unlikely to cause much friction, Haryana presents a different story. The CEC will have to navigate the demands of senior leaders who are fiercely protective of their factions.

The internal dynamics are tense, with the Bhupinder Hooda-led faction and the Kumari Selja-led group both vying for dominance. Despite the central leadership’s hopes that the factions will unite for the greater good, the rivalry persists. The stakes are high, as Congress eyes a potential comeback after a decade out of power in Haryana, bolstered by its performance in five out of ten Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Reports suggest that Congress may retain over 20 sitting MLAs while introducing fresh faces in other constituencies. However, those who have consistently lost elections could see their tickets denied. The question remains whether the central leadership will permit sitting MPs like Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala to contest the Assembly elections. Though Haryana Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria initially ruled out MPs running for Assembly seats, he later hinted that MPs could be contenders for the Chief Ministerial position if they secure majority MLA support.

It is learnt that to counter BJP’s non-Jat card, Congress may also revise its strategy, potentially reducing the number of Jat candidates compared to previous elections. Meanwhile, the political gears are in motion. Former BJP MP from Hisar, Brijender Singh, who recently joined Congress, inaugurated his campaign office in Uchana Kalan signaling his likely candidacy from the seat held by his mother, Premlata Singh.

</excerpt>

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti announced on Wednesday that she will not be participating in the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. She expressed concerns about her ability to effectively implement her party’s agenda within the current political framework, even if she were to secure the position of chief minister.

Reflecting on her previous term, Mufti pointed out achievements such as the revocation of FIRs against 12,000 individuals in 2016, initiating dialogue with separatists, and securing a ceasefire.

“Can we do that now? If you cannot take back an FIR as chief minister, what does one do with such a post?” she questioned.

The PDP president was asked about her stance following a shift in position by National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah, who had previously vowed not to participate in the polls until Jammu and Kashmir was restored to a full state. Abdullah is now among the 32 candidates announced by his party.

Mufti criticised the alliance between National Conference and Congress, suggesting that their collaborations have historically been driven by power rather than shared agendas. She recalled previous alliances with Congress and BJP, emphasising that PDP has consistently pursued its agenda.

On the potential release of jailed leaders like Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid and separatist Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mufti welcomed the possibility and urged the government to consider releasing other individuals entitled to bail.
“You can put a person in jail, but you cannot imprison ideas,” she asserted.

Mufti reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to its agenda, highlighting past achievements such as the repeal of POTA and the opening of cross-LoC routes. She stressed the importance of addressing key issues, including the restoration of Article 370, for the resolution of conflicts in the region.

Later, two emerging politicians joined the PDP in the presence of Mehbooba Mufti, further strengthening the party’s position ahead of the elections.

</excerpt>

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has taken a dig at the banned Jamaat-e-Islami for its decision to field candidates in the upcoming assembly elections, highlighting the group’s significant shift from considering elections as “haram” (prohibited) to now “halal” (permissible).

“Until now, elections were deemed haram. Well, better late than never. Now elections are halal, and everyone is being encouraged to participate,” Abdullah remarked while speaking to the media, according to Rising Kashmir. He further noted, “We have always believed that whatever happens should be through democratic means. The shift in Jamaat-e-Islami’s political thinking over the past 30-35 years is not a bad thing.”

Abdullah expressed regret that the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, imposed by the central government, remains in place. He added that while the group cannot contest under its party symbol due to the ban, they have chosen to field candidates as independents. Among those contesting is Talat Majeed, a former member of Jamaat-e-Islami, who has filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the Pulwama constituency.

Majeed explained that changing geopolitical dynamics since 2008 prompted a reevaluation of their rigid stance. Despite the ongoing ban, Jamaat-e-Islami had previously expressed interest in participating in the Lok Sabha elections if the prohibition were lifted. The organization had boycotted elections since 1987 and was affiliated with the separatist Hurriyat Conference, which promoted election boycotts from 1993 to 2003.

Background on Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ban

On February 27, the Union government extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir for five more years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a post on X, stated that the decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and separatism. Shah noted that the organization continues activities that threaten the nation’s security, integrity, and sovereignty.

The ban was first imposed on February 28, 2019, following the Pulwama attack, which resulted in the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel. announced on Tuesday that the party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in
Jammu & Kashmir. The announcement included the declaration of three candidates: Manoj Padha, the State President of J&K for the Bhaderwah constituency; Meenakshi Kalra for Doda-West; and Shrikant Rathore for Padder-Nagaseni.

In a handout issued in Jammu, Sharma stated that additional candidates for the second and third phases of the elections would be announced shortly. He emphasised the party’s
strategic expansion and its determination to make a significant impact in the region.

Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal, a registered political party with the Election Commission of India, has recently contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections across 20 constituencies in 15 states, using the Bansuri (Flute) as its symbol. The party’s objectives are rooted in its Sapt Sankalpas, which aim to empower and safeguard the Sanatan Indic civilisation.

In a bold political stance, ESBD has also called for the creation of a separate Jammu state
and the division of Kashmir into two union territories, one exclusively for the victims of the
Hindu Genocide.

Ankur Sharma, who gained prominence for his successful legal battle against the Roshni
Act, appealed to the people of Jammu Province to support ESBD and its candidates. He
argued that only through such support could Jammu achieve comprehensive empowerment, particularly in the political arena. He also clarified that the party will not field any candidates in Kashmir Province, focusing its efforts solely on Jammu.

</excerpt>

On Tuesday, several former members of the banned organisation, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu
and Kashmir filed their nomination papers to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in the union territory as independent candidates. Among them, Sugra Barkati, daughter of jailed separatist leader Sarjan Barkati, also filed papers on behalf of her father.

Jamaat-e-Islami, which has been banned by the union home ministry, has been unable to
participate in elections. Despite expressing interest in participating in the Lok Sabha
elections if the ban were lifted, the party has not contested any elections since 1987. It was previously part of the separatist amalgam Hurriyat Conference, which advocated for boycotts of elections from 1993 to 2003.

Talat Majeed, former chief of Jamaat, filed his nomination from the Pulwama constituency as an independent candidate. Majeed explained his decision, saying, “After reflecting on the
changing geopolitical landscape since 2008, I believe it is time to move beyond past
rigidities. We must engage with the political process to address current challenges.”

Majeed also emphasised the role of organisations like Jamaat and Hurriyat in today’s
political environment, noting, “We cannot ignore global dynamics when discussing Kashmir.
As Kashmiris, we must focus on the present and work towards a better future.”

Another former Jamaat leader, Sayar Ahmad Reshi, is contesting from the Kulgam
Assembly seat. Reshi urged voters to act according to their conscience, stating, “It is up to
Allah to bless or disgrace a person, but I appeal to people to vote according to their own
judgment. We aim to launch a historic movement for reforms.”

Reshi highlighted pressing issues such as unemployment and inadequate pensions,
emphasising, “While we have introduced sports to keep youth away from violence, jobs are
needed. We will work towards social justice and address the challenges faced by the elderly
and unemployed.”

Sarjan Barkati, known for his prominence during the unrest following the killing of Hizbul
Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in 2016, will also be contesting from Shopian district.
His daughter, Sugra Barkati, filed the nomination papers on his behalf due to his current
imprisonment on terror charges.

The Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The elections, the first in a decade, will take place in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the vote counting scheduled for October 4.

In a significant political shift for Jharkhand, Champai Soren, a senior leader of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and a former chief minister, is preparing to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to sources familiar with the matter.

Champai met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday night in New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is co-incharge of the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, was also present at the meeting. These elections are scheduled to take place in November-December.

Official Announcement by Assam CM Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam CM Sarma announced that Champai Soren would officially join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi. Sarma confirmed this in a social media post, stating, “Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, @ChampaiSoren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji a short while ago. He will officially join the @BJP4India on 30th August in Ranchi.”

Hints of Political Shift

Sarma had previously hinted at the political switch, revealing to reporters in Ranchi that he had been in contact with Champai for months, though not for political reasons at first. He added, “I want Champai Soren to join BJP. Now that he is in Delhi… let’s see… I feel now the time has come for having some political talks with him.”

Despite Champai’s decision to switch allegiances, he remains a minister in Hemant Soren’s cabinet and has yet to formally resign from both the JMM and his position in the government.

Champai’s Discontent with JMM Leadership

Champai Soren, who served as Jharkhand’s chief minister for a brief five months in 2005, recently voiced his dissatisfaction with his party. On August 20, he expressed his disappointment on social media, revealing that he felt sidelined by the JMM leadership. He claimed that he was removed from his chief ministerial position without prior notice, and many of his planned events were canceled without informing him.

After returning to Seraikela from Delhi on August 23, Champai began touring the assembly constituencies of Kharsawan, Chaibasa, and Seraikela in the Kolhan division, a region where he has a strong influence.

Champai Soren, a six-time MLA, has represented the Seraikela constituency since 1991, initially winning as an Independent in 1995. His shift to the BJP is expected to have considerable implications in the upcoming assembly elections, particularly in the Kolhan division.

Responding to Chautala’s comments, Khattar quipped, “Who invited him?”

Expressing confidence in the BJP’s prospects, Khattar asserted that the party will secure a third consecutive term in Haryana under his leadership. “BJP will form the government in Haryana for the third time, setting a new record. We will achieve victory under the leadership of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini,” Khattar said, emphasizing the party’s strength.

Chautala, during an interview on Sunday, declared that the JJP would not form an alliance with the BJP in the upcoming polls. “I can on record assure you that I will not go with BJP again,” Chautala stated. He further claimed that the JJP would emerge as the “most important” political force in the state in the days to come.

Following the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP formed the government in Haryana with the support of 10 JJP MLAs, resulting in Chautala becoming the Deputy Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also weighed in on the matter, suggesting that the Congress aims to weaken the JJP. He advised Chautala to remain steadfast and avoid aligning with the Congress, specifically cautioning against any association with Deepender Hooda. “BJP will win with a full majority in the state assembly election. I just want Chautala ji to stay strong and not incline towards Hooda ji,” Saini remarked.

The Haryana Assembly, comprising 90 seats, is set to go to the polls on October 1, with results expected on October 4. The political landscape remains charged, with key alliances and rivalries shaping up ahead of the election.

</excerpt>

In a significant political move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired a meeting of the BJP Central Election Committee at his residence, with the focus squarely on the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections. The high-stakes meeting was attended by key figures within the party, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, BJP State President Ravinder Raina, JK Election In charge Ram Madhav, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy (also JK Election In charge), Union Minister Dr Jitender Singh, and other senior leaders from the region.

The primary agenda of the meeting was to strategize for the assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir and finalize the party’s candidates for the various Assembly seats. Sources indicate that the BJP has meticulously reviewed its position in the region, with a detailed discussion on the strategy for each of the 90 assembly seats. The party is expected to release its first list of candidates within the next 24 hours, marking a crucial step in its election preparations.

Focus On Key Seats And Winning Prospects

According to sources within the BJP, the party is likely to contest around 60 seats in Jammu & Kashmir, focusing on areas where it believes it has strong winning prospects. This includes all the seats in the Jammu region and select seats in the Kashmir Valley. BJP’s leadership is said to be confident in its preparation and is determined to implement all necessary steps to enhance its position in these key constituencies.

In a significant move, sources also revealed that the party is likely to change several faces during the assembly polls. This reshuffling is part of the BJP’s strategy to inject fresh energy into its campaign and appeal to a broader electorate. By introducing new candidates, the party aims to address regional dynamics and voter expectations more effectively.

Strategic Planning And Candidate Selection

The meeting highlighted BJP’s commitment to a strategic and methodical approach to the elections. The leadership is keen on selecting candidates who not only have strong local support but also align with the party’s broader vision for Jammu & Kashmir. By focusing on regions where the party has historically performed well, BJP aims to consolidate its base and expand its influence in new areas.

A party spokesperson confirmed that the BJP is fully prepared for the elections and is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to secure a significant mandate in Jammu & Kashmir. The forthcoming release of the candidate list is expected to set the tone for the BJP’s election campaign, with a strong emphasis on regional issues, development, and national security.

Implications For The Upcoming Elections

This meeting is seen as a pivotal moment in the BJP’s electoral strategy for Jammu & Kashmir. As the party gears up for the elections, the decisions made during this meeting will likely shape its campaign and influence its performance at the polls. BJP’s focus on contesting in strategically important seats underscores its intent to play a decisive role in the future political landscape of Jammu & Kashmir.

With the Assembly elections on the horizon, BJP’s leadership is clearly prioritising a well-coordinated and impactful campaign. The expected changes in candidate faces signal the party’s adaptability and its efforts to resonate with the changing aspirations of the electorate. The outcomes of this meeting and the subsequent release of the candidate list will be closely watched by political observers and the electorate alike, as the party moves forward in its quest to strengthen its foothold in the region.

In related developments, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) also released its first list of 13 candidates. </excerpt>

In a significant development in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, top sources have revealed that the banned Jamaat-e-Islami will contest the upcoming Assembly elections on seven seats as independents. This move comes amid ongoing speculations about the political landscape in the region.

Sources disclosed that Jamaat-e-Islami had originally planned to contest 19 seats across Kashmir. However, after the union government maintained the ban on the organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on Friday, the number has now been reduced to seven. Among these, key constituencies in the southern region of Kashmir and the Handwara and Sopore seats in North Kashmir are likely to be included.

Jamaat leaders had been awaiting the revocation of the ban imposed in February 2019 and reportedly engaged in several rounds of talks with the government. Despite their efforts, the ban remains in place, prompting the organisation to proceed with a more limited electoral strategy.

Insider sources revealed that a crucial meeting was held in Srinagar on Saturday, chaired by Ghuman Qadir Lone, General Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami. During the meeting, it was decided that the organisation would field independent candidates in the Assembly elections, focusing on the seven finalised seats.

The decision marks a significant shift in the political strategy of Jamaat-e-Islami as they navigate the complexities of the region’s electoral dynamics under continued restrictions.

</excerpt>

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to finalise its list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The selection process, marked by careful scrutiny and internal deliberations, will culminate in a key meeting chaired by Ram Madhav in Jammu.

BJP is expected to send a panel of potential candidates for each Assembly constituency to its headquarters in New Delhi. The final decision on the candidates will be made by the National Election Committee, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Party insiders suggest that a significant shift is on the horizon, with 30-40% of the current candidates likely to be replaced by younger faces, signalling a strategic push towards fresh leadership in the region.

In a move that has generated much speculation, BJP’s J&K President, Ravinder Raina, is likely to contest from his ancestral seat in Nowshera. Similarly, General Secretary Sunil Sharma is expected to throw his hat in the ring from the Padder Nagseni constituency.

This assembly poll, with its unique political significance, will be a key indicator of the BJP’s strategy and positioning in Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has long been at the centre of India’s political discourse. The upcoming meeting and final selections are eagerly awaited, setting the stage for what promises to be a crucial electoral battle.

</excerpt>

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Thursday asserted that despite attempts by certain forces to disrupt the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is fully equipped to ensure free and fair elections. Kumar emphasised that “the ballot is the answer to such forces.”

“There are forces determined to disrupt the election process, but we are fully prepared, and the ballot is the answer to such forces,” CEC Kumar stated after briefing election observers for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

Speaking to the media, Kumar detailed the preparations, saying, “We briefed election observers today. General, Police, and Expenditure Observers from several states attended the briefing. Observers were instructed to be accessible to political parties and candidates to address grievances and ensure strict adherence to election rules.”

Kumar underscored that the ECI is vigilant and ready to tackle any challenges that may arise during the elections in both J&K and Haryana.

“The world is watching the elections in J&K. Some forces are adamant about disrupting the election process, but we are ready to handle them. During the Lok Sabha elections, we witnessed tremendous enthusiasm in J&K, with record voter turnout. I believe the ballot is the answer to everything. The people of J&K will shape their destiny with their own hands by participating in the voting process,” he added.

The CEC also highlighted the Commission’s preparedness to combat misinformation and fake narratives during the election period.

“We are vigilant and will respond promptly to such false narratives. Our officers will closely monitor these issues,” he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be conducted in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, covering a total of 90 Assembly constituencies. The last Assembly elections in the region were held in 2014.

The Election Commission has also scheduled Haryana’s Assembly elections for October 1, with results for both regions to be counted on October 4.

The notification for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections was unveiled on Monday, marking a significant milestone in the 2024 electoral process. Voting for the first phase, which includes 24 constituencies, is scheduled for September 18. Candidates have until August 27 to submit their nominations, with scrutiny on August 28 and the final withdrawal date on August 30.

</excerpt>

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a high-stakes campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh set to lead the charge. These top leaders will begin their rallies by the end of August, continuing through September, in the lead-up to the three-phase Assembly elections in the Union Territory.

According to top BJP leaders, Prime Minister Modi will spearhead the campaign, holding around 10 rallies across Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are expected to hold between 15 to 20 rallies each, with Nadda likely to address 10 to 12 rallies. A high-level national team, in consultation with the J&K BJP unit, is finalising the detailed schedule to ensure comprehensive coverage of all 43 Assembly constituencies in the BJP’s stronghold of Jammu division.

In addition to focusing on Jammu, BJP plans to hold rallies in Kashmir, aiming to contest nearly all 47 seats in the Valley. The party intends to go solo in the election, contesting all 90 Assembly seats without forming pre-poll alliances.

The campaign strategy is being meticulously crafted by Union Minister G Kishen Reddy, Election In charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh, and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh. These leaders have been tasked with screening candidates for the 90 seats, ensuring a strong roster of contenders.

BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir Chief, Ravinder Raina, has been actively involved in discussions in New Delhi, meeting with senior leaders including Amit Shah and JP Nadda to finalise the election strategy and potential candidates.

BJP’s campaign is set to include not just the top four leaders but also several union ministers, chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, and senior party leaders from across the country, who will all contribute to the campaign efforts across Jammu and Kashmir.

The elections, set to be held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, mark a critical moment for BJP in the Union Territory. The party, which won 25 seats in the 2014 elections, aims to expand its influence, particularly in the newly configured 43-seat Jammu region.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Assembly now comprises 90 seats, following a reconfiguration that added six seats in Jammu division and one in the Kashmir valley, while Ladakh, now a separate union territory, no longer contributes to the Assembly. Additionally, there are provisions for the nomination of five MLAs, including two Kashmir migrants, two women, and one Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) refugee.

With the BJP’s top brass leading the charge, the party is set to make a formidable push to secure a majority in the upcoming elections.

</excerpt>

Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta criticized regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, accusing them of misleading the public by focusing on Article 370. His comments came in response to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks, where Abdullah stated that if the National Conference formed the government in the Union Territory, a resolution would be passed in the assembly against the central government’s decision to revoke the region’s statehood and special status.

Gupta dismissed these claims, saying, “Day-dreaming is not a bad thing… They have been misleading people since the abrogation of Article 370. But nothing has changed. People have rejected their rhetoric on Article 370 in Kashmir. That’s why both former Chief Ministers were defeated in the recent Lok Sabha elections.” He was referring to Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, who lost their parliamentary bids from the Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri seats, respectively.

Looking ahead to the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled to be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, Gupta expressed optimism that the BJP would emerge as the leading party. He mentioned that the candidate selection process was underway and that the central leadership was in discussions. “We are in election mode, and we hope the elections conclude properly with the BJP emerging as the biggest party,” Gupta stated.

The Election Commission of India has outlined that polling in the Union Territory will take place in three phases, with vote counting scheduled for October 4. There are 90 assembly constituencies in total, with 74 general, nine reserved for STs, and seven for SCs. The electorate includes over 87 lakh voters, with a significant portion being first-time voters. This election marks the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir in a decade, following the last one in 2014 and the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition government in June 2018. The Supreme Court had directed the central government to complete the election process by September 30, 2024.
