</excerpt>

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, delivered an impressive performance on Monday by winning two out of five seats in the recent bye-elections. The party clinched one assembly seat each in Punjab and Gujarat. The victory served as a much-needed morale boost for AAP workers, coming months after their setback against the BJP in the Delhi assembly elections.

Kejriwal Dismisses Rajya Sabha Speculation

“I am not going to the Rajya Sabha. The party’s Political Affairs Committee will decide who will go to the Rajya Sabha,” he said at a press conference.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took the Visavadar (Gujarat) and Ludhiana West (Punjab) assembly seats.

Double-Margin Wins Boost AAP Morale

“In the February elections, we won the Visavadar seat, but our MLA left the party and joined the BJP… But today, we have won both the seats (including Ludhiana West) with a double margin. We won Ludhiana West as well, and it shows that people are happy with our work… It is said that it’s always the ruling party that wins the by-elections, but in Gujarat it is the BJP which is in power and it has also hold on the administration and machinery; despite that if the people have given us votes and we won by a double margin, it shows that people are fed up with the BJP,” he added.

AAP’s sitting MP Sanjeev Arora emerged victorious in the Ludhiana West bypolls in Punjab. Arora will be required to resign from the Rajya Sabha.

Kejriwal Criticizes Congress Role in Gujarat

“In Gujarat, there is a direct fight between BJP, AAP. Congress is the BJP’s puppet in ensuring their victory,” he added.

During a press conference, Kejriwal was quizzed who the party would nominate in Arora’s stead, Opposition parties have asserted that party leader Kejriwal would join the Upper House in Arora’s stead.

AAP’s Gopal Italia emerged victorious from Gujarat’s Visavadar assembly constituency. The Congress-led UDF took Nilambur from the ruling LDF in Kerala. The ruling BJP in Gujarat held on to the Kadi seat, and the Trinamool Congress was ahead in the Kaliganj assembly seat in West Bengal’s Nadia district.

The bypolls in the five constituencies were conducted on June 19.

</excerpt>

Byelections in Punjab and Kerala are crucial for Priyanka Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal’s political futures.

NEW DELHI: The results of byelections for two seats in Punjab and Kerala have become very important for two prominent leaders— Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Priyanka has invested considerable effort to win the Nilambur seat in Kerala. She personally campaigned there.

Nilambur falls under her parliamentary constituency, Wayanad. Therefore, Priyanka has taken no chances and worked hard to ensure her party’s victory in this byelection, hoping to create a favourable atmosphere ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled eight months later. The byelection was held due to the resignation of P.V. Anwar of the ruling Left alliance. Anwar contested again with the support of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Although the Left won this seat in the previous election, Kerala’s political landscape has changed significantly over the last four years.

The BJP’s support base has increased, and the party is contesting strongly. Priyanka, the second most powerful Congress leader, was elected MP from Wayanad, succeeding her brother Rahul Gandhi. The involvement of TMC has further added intrigue to the Nilambur contest. The main battle is between Congress and the Left, but the result will reveal the real political strength of the parties. The byelection results will be announced on Monday. Priyanka understands that a loss would invite criticism against her leadership, which is why she actively campaigned to ensure her candidate’s victory. There is no doubt that a win will revive Congress’s morale, as the party has faced continuous setbacks in the last two Kerala elections and desperately needs a victory.

On the other hand, a win is equally important for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as this seat has traditionally been a Left stronghold. In Punjab, the political future of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is at stake in the Ludhiana West seat byelection. After AAP lost the Delhi elections, the party declared Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for this seat. Arora has also been assured a ministerial post in the Punjab government once he wins. The party’s strategy is to have Kejriwal contest the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by Arora’s resignation, allowing him to begin his political second innings from the upper house.

Arora is a prominent industrialist, and the party has taken good care of him. In exchange for the Rajya Sabha seat, he will receive a ministerial post. To secure Kejriwal’s future, the AAP and the Mann government have put in all efforts to ensure victory. Decisions like forcibly ending the farmers’ movement were taken to appease traders. Kejriwal has remained forceful in his approach. However, the contest is multi-cornered. Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal are all putting in their best efforts to challenge AAP.

There are two key interests in the election results: whether AAP can win the seat and who will become the secondlargest party. Typically, the ruling party does not win byelections. If AAP fails to win, it will not only complicate the Mann government’s situation but also put Kejriwal’s political future in doubt. Regarding the second position, sources say BJP’s vigorous campaign might surprise many.

Even if BJP does not win, becoming the second-largest party would be a significant achievement. The party deployed two chief ministers and several senior leaders for campaigning. With Punjab elections scheduled in two years, a strong BJP performance will boost the party’s morale. Now, it remains to be seen which way the voters of Ludhiana West lean. On the result day, June 23, it will become clear whether Kejriwal celebrates or another party emerges victorious.

NEW DELHI: The by-election for the Ludhiana West Assembly seat in Punjab is shaping up to be a closely watched contest. It has become a matter of prestige for both the Congress and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). From AAP’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the party is putting its full strength into retaining this crucial seat.

A victory here would open the door to the Rajya Sabha for Kejriwal. The party has fielded Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate. Following its defeat in Delhi, AAP quickly announced Arora’s candidacy, fuelling speculation that Kejriwal could enter the Rajya Sabha from his seat. Although Kejriwal has denied these claims, his active campaigning suggests otherwise. Many believe this is a strategic move to secure a position in national politics and begin a new chapter through the Upper House.

In a bid to clear the way for a win, the Punjab government even forcefully ended the farmers’ agitation, reportedly under pressure from local traders. Voting for this by-election is scheduled for June 19.

On the other side, the election holds high stakes for the Congress as well—particularly for newly appointed state in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa. The Congress had earlier propagated rumours about a split within AAP and the potential fall of the Punjab government. Now, winning this seat is crucial for the credibility and future of these leaders. Bharat Bhushan Ashu has been fielded as the Congress candidate.

The Congress high command is also considering changes in the state leadership, and the results of this by-election could heavily influence those decisions. Bajwa and Warring, both Sikh Jats, are reportedly not on good terms with other party leaders, and it’s widely believed that one of them may be replaced soon.

Meanwhile, the departure of senior Congress leader Ravneet Singh Bittu to the BJP—where he now serves as a Union Minister—has weakened the party’s base. Another senior leader, MP Manish Tewari, who once represented Ludhiana in the Lok Sabha and was a minister in the UPA government, is also keeping his distance from the campaign. Factionalism within the party remains a major concern.

Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is also pursuing his own political ambitions and is reportedly lobbying to return as state party president. In the last assembly elections, Congress had projected Channi as the CM face, which led to internal divisions and contributed to the party’s worst-ever defeat in the state.

In this scenario, the Congress’s road to victory in Ludhiana West appears challenging. However, the party has deployed Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma—who originally hails from Punjab—to aid in the campaign. Still, overcoming deep-rooted factionalism within the Punjab Congress is no easy task.

AAP’s strategy appears to focus on securing this seat at any cost to reignite Kejriwal’s electoral relevance. With Assembly elections in Punjab just two years away, the state has gained significant importance for AAP after its recent setbacks in Delhi. To keep his political career afloat, Kejriwal is expected to focus heavily on Punjab, and this by-election could mark the beginning of his re-entry into national politics.

CAG Report Uncovers Tracking Failures

<excerpt>A CAG report flags serious flaws in Delhi’s liquor tracking system, exposing loopholes that could lead to smuggling and significant revenue losses. With CBI and ED investigations underway, policy reforms are expected soon.
</excerpt>

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has uncovered major lapses in Delhi’s Excise Supply Chain Information Management System (ESCIMS), designed to track liquor movement from distilleries to retail outlets. Operational since 2013, the system has failed to prevent stock tampering and illegal liquor sales, raising concerns over revenue loss and black-market activities.

Liquor Tracking System Fails to Prevent Manipulation

The CAG report points to fundamental loopholes in ESCIMS, which must allow for smooth tracing of liquor sales. However, findings indicate rampant manipulation and weak enforcement. The key issues are:

28% of liquor bottles sold without barcode scanning: This renders impossible the tracing of origin of nearly 28% of stock, which raises the chances of illegal sales.

Manual stock reconciliation compromises system integrity: Retail liquor vends bypassed electronic tracking, using manual procedures that were error-prone and manipulable.

Fake barcodes detected: These counterfeit labels pose a risk for duty-paid liquor entering the supply chain and creating the potential for smuggling and tax avoidance.

Smuggling and Revenue Loss a Growing Concern

The non-execution of real-time tracking of liquor puts the Delhi government at risk of heavy revenue loss. Experts say that the absence of monitoring can lead to smuggling operations running at a huge scale, causing the state exchequer to lose hundreds of crores.

With continued interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Excise Department is facing increased pressure to close gaps, enforce stricter compliance, and stop more revenue loss.

Expected Policy Reforms During Investigations

Delhi’s excise system has several mismanagement problems, which are exacerbated by the tracking failures that were discovered. Procedural lapses, threats of monopolization, and licensing violations are already in focus.

Coming months will decide the fate to assign responsibility and facilitate policy interventions to ensure an open and more efficient excise system as the central agencies augment their probe.

It highlights procedural lapses, licensing irregularities, and zoning violations, leading to financial setbacks.
</excerpt>

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, presented in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, disclosed that errors in the 2021-22 liquor policy during the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government resulted in financial losses of over Rs 2,000 crore. The report quoted revenue losses, irregularities in licenses, and violations of zoning, blaming former Deputy Chief Minister and Excise Minister Manish Sisodia for ignoring expert advice.

Major Revenue Losses Due to Licensing Failures

The CAG report had put the revenue loss at Rs 941.53 crore on account of the delay in receiving permissions for opening liquor vends in non-conforming municipal wards—those zones not approved for liquor sale under zoning regulations. This took a heavy toll on the Delhi government’s revenues.

Besides, the Excise Department lost Rs 890.15 crore when 19 zonal licensees handed over their licenses. The department did not re-tender these liquor zones and, as a result, earned no revenue from these zones at all.

Irregular Waiver of Rs 144 Crore in Licence Fees

The report also raised a red flag against an irregular waiver of Rs 144 crore allowed to liquor licensees given COVID-19 restrictions. Sisodia approved this waiver himself despite the objection from the finance department.

“Despite being mentioned in the conditions of tender document that any commercial risk shall lie with the licensee, clarification provided during the pre-bid meeting that there is no provision for force majeure and against the opinion of the excise department to relax the license fees, a waiver of license fees of ₹144 crore was granted to the zonal licenses on the basis of COVID restrictions (December 28, 2021 to Janaury 27, 2022) resulting in loss of revenue to the government,” reads the report.

Policy Transgressions and Implementation Failures

The CAG report laid bare some important violations in implementing the liquor policy:

The Delhi Master Plan 2021 banned liquor vends in non-conforming zones, but the Excise Policy 2021-22 had specified a minimum of two retail vends per ward.
Even though there were apparent zoning rules, licences were issued prior to resolving these issues.

On 16th November 2021, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) prohibited liquor vends in non-conforming areas, which resulted in a court case when licence holders were finally exempted from paying Rs 114.50 crore each month in licence fees.

Political Fallout and BJP’s Allegations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also long accused the AAP government of corruption and mismanagement in the liquor policy. The report shed light on how the Group of Ministers (GoM), headed by Sisodia, made changes to expert committee suggestions in favor of private wholesalers and from 2 to 54 retail outlets per bidder. Key financial decisions were also made without Cabinet or LG approval.

CBI Investigation and AAP Leader Arrests

In July 2022, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena proposed a CBI probe in response to the controversial policy’s aftermath. Many AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh, were arrested as a result, and they spent months behind bars.

The BJP has employed the liquor policy scandal as a major issue against AAP, accusing it of financial mismanagement and corruption of public funds. With the CAG report now out in the open, the scandal is likely to heighten political confrontations in Delhi.

With a net worth of ₹5.31 crore, she surpasses Arvind Kejriwal’s ₹4.2 crore. A lawyer by profession, Gupta’s assets include investments, properties, and jewelry.
</excerpt>

Rekha Gupta is all set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi today. Following in the footsteps of the late Sushma Swaraj, she will become the second woman from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to assume this prestigious role. Known for her honest image and strong political presence, Gupta has emerged as a significant leader within the party.

Rekha Gupta’s Net Worth Exceeds Arvind Kejriwal’s

Financial disclosures made during the Delhi Assembly elections reveal that Rekha Gupta’s net worth stands at ₹5.31 crore, surpassing former CM Arvind Kejriwal, who declared assets worth ₹4.2 crore. These figures are based on affidavits submitted by both leaders during the electoral process.

Gupta, a seasoned lawyer, has a diverse financial portfolio, while Kejriwal, a former Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, has seen steady growth in his assets over the years.

Rekha Gupta’s Assets and Investments

According to her election affidavit, Rekha Gupta possesses assets totaling ₹5.31 crore, which includes family income and significant investments. Her financial portfolio consists of:

Properties worth ₹2.60 crore in Delhi

Bank deposits, insurance policies, and share investments

Gold jewelry worth ₹18 lakh, while her husband owns jewelry valued at ₹11 lakh, bringing their combined jewelry assets to ₹29 lakh

Outstanding liabilities amounting to ₹1.20 crore

Arvind Kejriwal’s Asset Declaration

In comparison, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal declared total assets worth ₹4.2 crore in his election affidavit. Over the past five years, his family’s total assets have increased from ₹3.4 crore to ₹4.2 crore.

His declared financial details include:

₹1.73 crore in assets

₹2.96 lakh in bank savings and ₹50,000 in cash

Immovable property worth ₹1.7 crore

No personal ownership of a house or car

Financial Contrast Between Both Leaders

A notable difference in their financial standings is seen in their jewellery holdings, where Rekha Gupta’s collection surpasses Kejriwal’s total bank balance. This financial contrast underscores the varying economic backgrounds of both leaders as they navigate their political careers.

As Rekha Gupta steps into the role of Delhi CM, all eyes are on how her leadership will shape the political landscape of the national capital.

Sheila Dikshit – Congress, 1998-2013

Sheila Dikshit of the Indian National Congress (INC) was the longest-serving Chief minister of Delhi. She focused on significant development in the infrastructure of the capital, including the improvement and betterment of the public transport system (mainly the Delhi Metro) and the 2010 Commonwealth Games preparations.

Sushma Swaraj of the Bhartiya Janata Party was the Chief Minister for a brief period. Swaraj focused on the city’s governance, including public infrastructure, women’s safety and health. However, her tenure was cut short due to internal issues within the BJP and the party’s inability to maintain a majority in the Delhi Assembly. As a result of the internal conflict, Sushma Swaraj resigned from the position, and the capital went under the President’s rule for a brief period.

Sahib Singh Verma – BJP, 1996-98

Khurana mainly emphasized urban development and infrastructure projects.

Gurmukh Nihal Singh – Congress, 1955-56

Gurmukh Nihal Singh served as the second Chief Minister of Delhi from February 1955 to November 1956. Singh’s term saw the capital’s transition from a Part-C state to a Union Territory due to the States Reorganisation Act of 1956, which led to the abolition of the Chief Minister’s office.

Chaudhary Brahm Prakash – Congress, 1952-55

Through the years, Delhi has had various influential leaders, starting from 1952 to 2025. All the leaders had a major hand in keeping the governance of Delhi steady and smooth. Governments focused heavily on the state’s infrastructure and the betterment of the citizens, which can be seen in the state today. Each government has done its work, be it anything from reforms to education and healthcare.

Check Out BJP’s Top Choices

<excerpt>The BJP is set to announce Delhi’s new chief minister after a historic win. A woman candidate is likely, with names like Rekha Gupta, Shikha Roy, and Smriti Irani in contention.
</excerpt>

After securing a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is abuzz with speculation over who will be the next chief minister. With 48 out of 70 seats, the party has ended its 26-year-long wait to reclaim power in the capital, reducing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to just 22 seats.

A Woman CM on the Cards?

Reports suggest that the BJP may opt for a woman leader this time, picking from its newly elected MLAs. Additionally, there is a possibility of appointing a deputy chief minister from a socially representative background, ensuring inclusive leadership. The new cabinet is also expected to include a diverse mix of women and Dalit leaders.

Probable Women Contenders

Several strong women leaders are being considered for the top post:

Rekha Gupta (Shalimar Bagh MLA): The national vice president of the BJP’s women’s wing, Gupta secured a convincing victory with a margin of 29,595 votes.

Shikha Roy (Greater Kailash MLA): Defeated AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj in a crucial contest, making her a strong candidate.

Poonam Sharma (Wazirpur MLA): Won her seat by 11,425 votes, adding to her credibility.

Neelam Pehalwan (Najafgarh MLA): Secured an impressive victory with 1,01,708 votes.

Smriti Irani: The former Union minister, despite her loss in Amethi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, remains a formidable political figure.

Bansuri Swaraj: Daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, recently won from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat and is considered a rising star in BJP politics.

If a woman is appointed, she would join the ranks of Delhi’s few female chief ministers, including Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP).

When Will the Decision Be Made?

Sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his US visit. The BJP is planning a grand event to mark its return to power, with chief ministers from all NDA-ruled states expected to attend.

Other Potential CM Candidates

Apart from women leaders, several other prominent BJP members are reportedly under consideration:

Vijender Gupta (Rohini MLA)

Ajay Mahawar (Ghonda MLA)

Abhay Verma (Laxmi Nagar MLA)

Kapil Mishra: Former AAP minister who switched to BJP, now being seen as a strong contender.

Parvesh Verma: Gained national attention by defeating Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva emphasized that the final decision will rest with the party’s top leadership. Given Delhi’s unique governance challenges and its proximity to BJP-ruled Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the next chief minister will need to focus on key issues such as infrastructure, transport, and water supply.

With all eyes on the BJP’s final decision, Delhi awaits its new leader.

</excerpt>

An old video featuring Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has surfaced on social media after his party lost the Delhi assembly elections. In the clip, Kejriwal is seen saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could never defeat AAP in this lifetime and would need to be reborn to do so.

The video, that originated from a 2023 AAP workers’ conference in Delhi, shows Kejriwal saying: “Their intention is to topple the AAP government, and Narendra Modi ji wants to form a government in Delhi this way; they know they can’t defeat us through elections. I want to tell Narendra Modi ji that you cannot defeat us in this life, and you will have to take another birth to defeat us in Delhi.

BJP and Netizens React to Kejriwal’s Old Remarks

The Delhi BJP unit posted a funny clip of the video on X (formerly Twitter), edited with humorous reactions. Their post, captioned “Ab aaya swad?” (How does this taste?), seemed to mock AAP’s electoral loss.

A social media user noted, “Ab es Janam main tum jail se bahar nahi aa sakte” (Now in this lifetime, you won’t come out of jail).

Delhi Election Results: Historic BJP Win

The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to form the government in Delhi after a closely fought election against AAP and Congress for the first time in 26 years, managing to secure 48 assembly seats.

AAP faced heavy losses, and some of its prominent leaders lost the elections: Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Satyendar Jain. However, Chief Minister Atishi won Kalkaji assembly seat defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. In the election, Congress did not win a single seat.

Protesters Carry Effigy with Controversial Message

Among the participants, a young boy is spotted holding a placard that reads, “Arvind Kejriwal, the only son of the corrupt.” The exact reason behind this act remains unclear, but it appears to be a demonstration against the AAP leader. The location and date of the video have not been verified, though it is claimed to be from Delhi.

BJP’s Landslide Victory and AAP’s Defeat

The video gained traction online after the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 results were announced on February 8. The Aam Aadmi Party faced a major setback, securing only 22 out of 70 seats, while the BJP registered a sweeping victory with 48 seats. In contrast, AAP had won 62 seats in the 2020 elections, with the BJP managing only 8. The Congress party continued its losing streak, failing to win a single seat for the third consecutive time.

Speculations Over Delhi’s Next Chief Minister

Following the BJP’s decisive win, speculation has begun over who will be appointed as Delhi’s next Chief Minister. Reports suggest that the party might consider a leader from outside Delhi, with names like Smriti Irani and Bansuri Swaraj emerging as potential candidates. However, the final decision will be made by the BJP leadership in the coming days.

As the video continues to circulate online, social media remains divided, with debates over political strategies and electoral performances heating up.

Dressed as Kejriwal, he gained attention. His viral moments began in 2020 during Delhi elections, and he was invited to Kejriwal’s swearing-in.
</excerpt>

Delhi Assembly Elections counting is underway. The fight for the national capital is neck and neck between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In this neck-and-neck race, supporters from all walks of life, such as the young ‘mufflerman’ and the ‘baby Kejriwal’ of Delhi, have come out to show their support. Avyan Tomar, who had hit the headlines once for dressing up as Arvind Kejriwal during the 2020 Delhi elections, is back and all grown up to support AAP before the results.

A young AAP supporter Avyan was spotted outside the former Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday morning, clad in a blue sweater with a white collar, a green jacket, and painted moustache mimicking the look of the leader in recent press conferences. According to Avyan’s father Rahul Tomar, visiting Kejriwal’s residence on results day has become a tradition for them.

Avyan’s journey as the AAP mascot began in 2020 when, at just four years old, he dressed in a red sweater, AAP cap, and signature muffler, gaining viral fame. His image, flashing victory signs, was shared by the AAP’s official social media account, calling him ‘mufflerman’. He was also invited to Kejriwal’s swearing-in ceremony. In 2022, Avyan dressed up as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the state elections, adding a turban and mustache to the muffler look.

AAP under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal is fighting for a successive term in Delhi that faces strong competition from BJP, which has been aiming to win the power in the city since more than two decades. BJP is taking lead with its proposal for Delhi and is accusing the ruling AAP of corruption and irregularities.

The BJP maintained a strong lead throughout the election, fueled by anti-incumbency and aggressive campaigning. The results closely matched exit poll predictions, with BJP projected to win over 50 seats.
</excerpt>

In a huge blow to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the latter lost the assembly elections from the New Delhi seat. Parvesh Sahib Verma of the BJP defeated Kejriwal in a neck-and-neck contest which witnessed fluctuating results during the counting phase. Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also lost to BJP’s Tarwinder Singh Marwah.

AAP has flopped miserably in the elections with BJP building a consistent lead from day one of voting. It is losing big time in important constituencies like Kalkaji, Jangpura, and Patparganj. Kejriwal had 25,999 votes and trailed behind by 4,089 votes.

Anti-incumbency mood, Modi ki Guarantee campaign, and so on are there. So, BJP would get a sure win, with 47 leading seats. AAP may have lost partially because of very high aggressive campaigning done by the BJP in Delhi and also because of liquor scam and ‘Sheesh Mahal’ row for which AAP did not have a single kind of argumentation. The party is also in trouble after separation from the Congress-led INDIA bloc. The results closely mimic exit polls, which had foretold of a BJP victory, with some even giving the party more than 50 seats.

Factors such as scandals and internal issues hurt AAP’s election chances.
</excerpt>

The AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost to BJP’s Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi constituency with a margin of 3,182 votes. Parvesh Verma is the son of the former Delhi Chief Minister. This marked a severe decline for IAS-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal who had emerged as the head of the anti-corruption movement spearheaded by Anna Hazare.

Reacting to the election results, Anna Hazare, with whom Kejriwal had always had a very close association during his anti-corruption campaigns, aired his doubts over the tarnishing of Kejriwal’s image. Hazare said, “I have been saying for a long time that while contesting elections, a candidate must have a character, good ideas, and no dent on their image. But, they (AAP) didn’t understand it. They got tangled in liquor and money — his (Arvind Kejriwal) image was dented because of it and that’s why they are getting fewer votes in the election.”

But, they (AAP) didn’t get that. They got tangled in liquor and… pic.twitter.com/n9StHlOlK9

Hazare continued, “People saw that he (Arvind Kejriwal) talks about character but gets involved in liquor… In politics, allegations are made. One has to prove that he is not guilty. The truth will remain true. When a meeting was held, I decided that I would not be part of the party and I have remained away from that day.”

Reasons Behind AAP’s Defeat in Delhi

Several factors led to AAP’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. These are:

Legal Problems Haunting AAP Leaders: Main party figures such as Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain were involved in the excise policy and money laundering cases. Their arrest and release on bail between August and October interrupted AAP’s preparation work for the campaign.

Internal Indignation: There was a sort of internal upsurge among councillors against the stagnation of governance within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

BJP’s Blasts: BJP attacked AAP’s liquor policy and also opposed the huge expenses on renovation of Kejriwal’s residence, which was largely perceived as avoidable.

Performance of MCD: AAP’s victory in MCD polls became a backlash for AAP as the corporation’s operations came to a halt mainly due to the resistance of opposition to form the Standing Committee.

Frustration Among Councillors: Some councillors were reportedly considering switching to BJP due to a lack of progress in MCD-related matters.

Public Service Issues: Worsening issues in Delhi’s water supply and sewer management added to voter discontent. AAP’s failure to release Rs 4,000 crore to the Delhi Jal Board only worsened the situation.

Conflict with Lieutenant Governor: AAP’s constant conflict with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor further hindered its governance efforts.

BJP and Congress Counterattacks: BJP and Congress successfully countered AAP’s claims by portraying them as excuses for poor governance. Congress also capitalized on the Sheila Dikshit legacy, drawing a comparison between it and AAP’s governance record.

The amalgamation of all these factors with the excise scam controversy resulted in AAP’s electoral downfall in Delhi.

</excerpt>

A day after the exit polls gave the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a clear and decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, dismissed these polls as fake. He claimed that the elections were part of a larger plan to destabilize his party and influence AAP leaders.

In a post on X, Kejriwal strongly condemned the exit poll results, saying they are being used as a tool to manipulate public perception and weaken AAP’s momentum.

Arvind Kejriwal alleges of Poaching AAP Leaders.

Arvind Kejriwal also accused BJP of trying to poach AAP candidates by offering lucrative deals. He wrote, “Some agencies are showing that the ‘Gali Galauj Party’ is winning more than 55 seats. In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates have received calls saying, ‘Leave your party and join theirs, we’ll make you ministers and give each of you Rs 15-15 crores.’ If they are indeed winning more than 55 seats, then why are they calling our candidates?

कुछ एजेंसीज दिखा रही हैं कि गाली गलौज पार्टी की 55 से ज़्यादा सीट आ रही हैं।

अगर इनकी पार्टी की 55 से ज़्यादा सीटें आ रहीं हैं तो…

— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) February 6, 2025

In other words, “The exit polls are manufactured ones to create a false sense of BJP’s sweeping victory and woo away AAP workers,” said Delhi CM.
“So, obviously these fake surveys are being conducted simply to create the atmosphere and break a few of our candidates. But, Gali Galauj walon, not even one of my people will break,” he said.

AAP Leader Mukesh Ahlawat Alleges Poaching Attempt

AAP leader Mukesh Ahlawat also backed the claims, saying that he too had received a similar call. Posting a screenshot of the number of the caller, Ahlawat wrote on X, “I received a call from this number. He said that their government is being formed, they will make me a minister and also give 15 crores. ‘Leave AAP and come with us.’

— Mukesh Ahlawat (@mukeshahlawatap) February 6, 2025

Reaffirming his loyalty to AAP, Ahlawat added, “I want to tell them that the respect that Kejriwal ji and the ‘AAP’ party have given me, I will not leave my party until my last breath.”

Exit Polls Predict BJP’s Massive Win

Several exit polls have predicted a strong and confident victory for the BJP, which has seen a historic struggle to win power in Delhi. Axis My India projected that 45-55 out of the 70 elected seats in the Delhi Assembly would go to the BJP, while AAP, which used to have a stronghold in the capital, is likely to take as few as 15-25 seats. The Congress party is estimated to perform poorly at 0-1 seat in the counting.

AAP Alleges ‘Operation Lotus’ in Delhi

After Kejriwal, AAP MP Sanjay Singh was also quick to dismiss the poll results. Citing “Operation Lotus” done by the BJP in Delhi a term often describing alleged attempts to induce opposition to defect, the ruling party to the AAP alleged that the BJP was offering hefty amounts of money and other incentives, trying to get AAP leaders onboard to break AAP and pave smooth way for governance.

As election results are near, the political battle in Delhi is intensifying, with AAP standing firm against the exit poll predictions and BJP’s alleged poaching tactics. The final verdict will soon determine if the surveys hold or if Kejriwal’s claims of a rigged narrative prove true.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini strongly attacked Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of corruption and tarnishing the land he was born in. Saini declared that Kejriwal’s place was not in Haryana but in Tihar jail.

Saini Responds to Water Contamination Allegations

The attack came after Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Haryana government of poisoning the Yamuna water supply to Delhi with ammonia. Kejriwal later claimed that ammonia levels had decreased from 7 ppm to 2 ppm. In response, Saini posted on X, saying, “His place is not in Haryana but in Tihar jail.”

Corruption and Betrayal Claims

Saini also posted a video where he criticized Kejriwal for betraying the people of Delhi. He suggested that after February 5, Kejriwal would be sent back to Tihar jail. Kejriwal had previously been jailed for his alleged role in the Delhi excise policy scam and was released on bail.

Accusations of Lying

At a rally in Mundka’s Rani Khera area, Saini accused Kejriwal of spreading lies about the water contamination. He called Kejriwal’s actions a “shop of lies” and predicted that the people of Delhi would “lock” it up during the upcoming election. Saini also pointed out that Kejriwal was born in Haryana but had harmed the state’s reputation with his lies.

Delhi Elections Ahead

The political battle between Saini and Kejriwal heats up as Delhi approaches its February 5 elections. The results will be announced on February 8, further intensifying the rivalry.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched a strong attack on the BJP-led Haryana government, holding them accountable for dangerously high ammonia levels in the Yamuna River, which supplies drinking water to Delhi. He accused the BJP of deliberately contaminating the river, endangering the health of millions of residents. Kejriwal challenged BJP and Congress leaders to drink the same high-ammonia water being supplied to Delhi or issue a public apology. He also criticized Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for failing to act despite repeated appeals from Delhi CM Atishi. Dismissing BJP’s threats of legal action against him, Kejriwal remained defiant, stating he would not back down in his fight to protect Delhi’s people. He announced that AAP would send bottles of the contaminated water to BJP and Congress leaders, challenging them to drink it publicly and prove its safety.

Addressing the media, Kejriwal explained that Delhi receives raw water from Haryana via the Yamuna and from Uttar Pradesh via the Ganga. This raw water is treated before being supplied to households. However, he highlighted that for the past few days, the water coming from Haryana through the Yamuna had become highly toxic. “The ammonia level in the water has risen significantly, reaching up to 7 PPM, which is extremely dangerous. Such high levels of ammonia can cause severe organ damage and may even be fatal,” he warned.

Kejriwal stated that AAP had no choice but to raise the issue publicly after ammonia levels in the Yamuna kept rising. Atishi repeatedly called Nayab Singh Saini, urging him to take action, but despite initial assurances, Saini failed to act. Eventually, he even stopped responding to Atishi’s calls. Kejriwal explained the severity of the issue, warning that water treatment plants cannot process water with ammonia levels above 1 PPM. When ammonia levels exceed this threshold, plants must shut down, leading to a major water crisis in Delhi. If the contaminated water is supplied directly, it poses a severe health risk.

Additionally, he pointed out the deadly chemical reaction that could occur if high-ammonia water is treated with chlorine. “During water treatment, chlorine is added. When chlorine mixes with ammonia, it creates a highly toxic combination. If we had chlorinated this water and supplied it to homes, it could have resulted in a major disaster,” he said. Kejriwal emphasized that AAP was not politicizing the issue but seeking a solution. “That is why Atishi kept calling Haryana officials. The most shocking part is that after we exposed the crisis, ammonia levels dropped from 7 PPM to 3 PPM. This suggests that they were responsible for increasing it in the first place and reduced it only after being exposed.” He questioned, “How did ammonia levels suddenly decrease when we raised our voices? Who was behind this?”

Reacting to the Haryana government’s response, Kejriwal said, “Instead of solving the issue, they are threatening legal action against us. They can do whatever they want! You are playing with people’s lives by sending toxic water to Delhi. High-ammonia water can cause irreversible harm, especially to young children. Yet, rather than addressing the problem, you are trying to silence us?” He dismissed BJP’s threats, stating, “They say they want to put me in jail—go ahead! I have just returned from jail. They say they will file a case—do it! But as long as I am alive, I will not allow the people of Delhi to drink poisonous water. I stand with Delhi’s citizens.”

Kejriwal also mocked Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini’s recent PR stunt, where he attempted to drink water from Palla in front of the media but immediately spat it out. “The truth always prevails. Yesterday, Saini Ji wanted to prove the water was clean, but when he took a sip, he couldn’t swallow it. Either it smelled terrible, or it was too dirty. He almost vomited!” Directing a question at Saini, Kejriwal asked, “If you can’t even take a sip of this water, how can you expect Delhi’s people to drink it?”

Announcing AAP’s next move, he stated, “Today, we have prepared bottles containing 7 PPM ammonia water mixed with chlorine. The BJP and Congress are jointly endangering the health of Delhi’s citizens. AAP MP Sanjay Singh and other leaders will deliver these bottles to BJP headquarters. We are sending them to Amit Shah, Virendra Sachdeva, Nayab Singh Saini, and Rahul Gandhi.” He concluded with a bold challenge: “Let these four leaders drink this ammonia-mixed water in a press conference. If they do, we will accept that we were wrong. If they claim the water is safe, let them prove it by drinking it publicly.”

BJP accused AAP of corruption, while AAP dismissed the claims.
</excerpt>

Delhi Police registered a case late Wednesday after discovering a vehicle labeled “Punjab Government” near Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg. Upon inspection, authorities found cash, liquor, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pamphlets inside the vehicle.

Flying Squad Intercepts Suspicious Vehicle

The Flying Squad, responsible for addressing Model Code of Conduct violations, intercepted the car with a Punjab number plate in New Delhi district. The team investigates election-related complaints, including voter bribery, illicit funds, and illegal distribution of liquor. According to police officials, legal proceedings have been initiated, and a case has been filed at Tilak Marg police station.

Punjab Government Denies Ownership

Contrary to initial assumptions, the Punjab Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) clarified that the vehicle does not belong to the Punjab government. It was registered under Maj. Anubhav Shivpuri, a former officer at the Army Dental College in Pathankot. Furthermore, discrepancies were found in the vehicle registration, as the seized Hyundai Creta’s number plate belonged to a Ford EcoSport registered in 2018. Authorities confirmed that the number plate was fake.

He accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of corrupt practices, stating, “First, it was liquor, now money. Kejriwal is losing Delhi elections and is resorting to bribery.”

BJP candidate from Malviya Nagar, Satish Upadhyay, also criticized AAP, alleging that the party aims to buy votes with liquor. Similarly, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal called the incident an exposure of AAP’s “corrupt foundation built on scams and deceit.”

AAP Dismisses Allegations as ‘Hilarious’

AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar refuted the accusations, calling them baseless. She emphasised that the Punjab government had already clarified the vehicle’s forged registration. “The car never entered Punjab Bhavan, and its registered owner is from BJP-ruled Maharashtra, not Delhi,” she said, asserting that BJP is trying to deflect its impending electoral defeat.

High Stakes Before Delhi Elections

The controversy has added to the charged political atmosphere ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections. With counting scheduled for February 8, political tensions continue to rise as both parties trade accusations.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Elections are revolving around the cult of one man – former Chief Minister and Aam Admi Party leader, Arvind Kejriwal. Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the issue in the Lok Sabha elections, here the issue is Arvind Kejriwal. You are either for him or against him. That is the way Delhi is going to vote.

Given that the Aam Admi Party would cease to exist without him, it is his beliefs, promises, ideology and track record that is at the core of its manifesto. If the BJP brings up Hindutva, then Kejriwal recites the Hanuman Chalisa at the drop of a hat, and has also included temple priests in his scheme of welfarism.

He has countered the BJP’s reach out to the women voter with incentives of his own, so much so that the AAP is now driving the narrative, forcing the BJP and the Congress to come up with competitive offers and schemes for the women. And, as a recent C Voter tracker showed that while both the PM and Arvind Kejriwal are neck to neck when it comes to the male voter, it is Kejriwal who has an edge with the female voter.

Rahul Gandhi too has driven the Congress campaign on an anti-Kejriwal note. You hear less about the RSS from the Congress in Delhi and more about the corruption cases against AAP leaders, including Kejriwal. The reason for this is not too hard to fathom for the Aap has come up in Delhi at the cost of the Congress vote. It is this vote that Rahul Gandhi wants to win back.

Moreover, Modi is not the issue in the Delhi elections, though the BJP has not fielded a CM face and is banking on Modi ki Guarantee. But again, it is not the PM’s track record that is on trial here but that of the former Delhi Chief Minister.

The BJP’s campaign is all about how it can deliver better than Kejriwal and all that is wrong with the AAP leader. Others like Atishi, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh etc barely get a mention, the entire focus is on Kejriwal. Just as the Lok Sabha revolved around PRime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rahul is not wrong when he compares Kejriwal to Modi for there are strong similarities between the two and their governance styles.

Both are lone rangers rather than team players, both are charismatic orators, know how to milk an issue and sway the crowd, -and of late both are picking on similar issues from welfarism to religion. It’s interesting because, while I began the column stating that the Delhi elections is all about Arvind Kejriwal, I am ending it by wondering if the election is more about Modi and Modi-lite!

</excerpt>

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently made a bold statement, claiming that the Yamuna River is being intentionally “poisoned.” According to Kejriwal, the contamination is a deliberate act to harm Delhi’s citizens and damage the city’s environment. His remarks have sparked widespread debate, with opposition parties demanding accountability for such allegations.

Election Commission’s Notice and Demands

In light of these claims, the Election Commission (EC) has issued a notice to Kejriwal, requesting concrete evidence to substantiate his statement. The EC emphasized the importance of verifying such allegations, especially as they could influence public opinion ahead of elections.

This move by the EC has placed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader under scrutiny, with critics questioning the timing and intent behind his remarks.

What’s Next in the Yamuna Pollution Controversy?

While Kejriwal has yet to respond to the EC’s notice, the situation highlights the pressing issue of pollution in the Yamuna River. Environmentalists and citizens alike are calling for urgent action to address the river’s deteriorating condition, regardless of the political discourse surrounding it.

The controversy is expected to escalate as the Election Commission awaits Kejriwal’s response, and opposition parties continue to demand clarity on his claims.

Parvesh Verma claims cleaning the river is achievable with proper measures. The issue becomes central in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
</excerpt>

As the Yamuna River comes to the fore in Delhi assembly election campaigns in 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party struck a sharp and creative stroke against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.

BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency Parvesh Verma went for a boat ride on the Yamuna, complete with party colleagues and a life-size cut-out of Kejriwal. The cut-out showed Kejriwal holding his ear in shame, with the slogan: “Main fail ho gaya, mujhe vote mat dena, 2025 tak main Yamuna saaf nai kar paya” (I am a failure, don’t vote for me as I failed to clean the Yamuna by 2025). Verma kept submerging the cut-out in the river, creating a public spectacle for the media.

Watch here:

#WATCH | BJP candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency, Parvesh Verma reaches Yamuna Ghat; takes a jibe at AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal over the issue of cleaning Yamuna River. pic.twitter.com/uAVHPwOpDx

Speaking to reporters, Verma declared, “We can clean all the water of Yamuna Maaiya. Cleaning it is not rocket science. All the silt should be removed by machines, sewerage treatment plants should be built, and water treatment plants should be built. Just like our Prime Minister Modi Ji built the Sabarmati Riverfront, the Yamuna Riverfront can be built in the same way. 11 years is a very long time.”

Yamuna Pollution Becomes a Hot Election Topic

The long-standing issue of Yamuna River pollution has taken center stage in Delhi’s political landscape, becoming a rallying point for voters frustrated with health risks and environmental concerns. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has faced criticism for failing to deliver on its promise to clean the river by 2025. Opposition parties, including the BJP, have capitalized on this frustration.

The political war of words got a respite, though briefly, when the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav came out in Kejriwal’s defense after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took up the AAP leader over Yamuna pollution. Yadav, taking a jibe at Adityanath, questioned whether he would dare drink water from the Yamuna in Mathura.

The issue was also commented on by the Congress, with Kalkaji Assembly candidate Alka Lamba saying that both BJP and AAP had reduced Yamuna pollution to a mere political issue. She said, “Rivers Yamuna and Ganga are nothing more than election issues for them.If people give us a chance, we will show our work (Yamuna cleaning), we will not blame the people of Purvanchal for the condition of Yamuna like Arvind Kejriwal did.

Delhi Assembly Elections 2025

Delhi will vote in a single phase on February 5, and the counting of votes will take place on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are in the fray for the 70 assembly seats, with Yamuna River pollution emerging as a pivotal campaign issue.

</excerpt>

The Punjab Police personnel deployed for the security of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi have been withdrawn following instructions from the Election Commission. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed the development, stating that the decision was taken in compliance with the poll panel’s guidelines. He further added that Punjab regularly receives reports about potential threats to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal. “We share such inputs with security agencies periodically. Moving forward, this information will now be shared with the Delhi Police,” said Yadav.

The decision comes amid recent concerns raised by BJP leader Parvesh Verma over the presence of Punjab-registered vehicles in Delhi. Verma questioned the identity and activities of individuals using these vehicles and alleged that their presence could pose a threat to security, especially with Republic Day celebrations approaching. Verma’s remarks sparked a strong response from the Aam Aadmi Party, which labeled the allegations as an insult to Punjabis.

Earlier, the Delhi Police had written to the Punjab Police, seeking details of VIPs from Punjab currently present in the capital and their security arrangements. The Delhi Police stated that such information was crucial to ensuring proper security during the ongoing election period.

</excerpt>

Yogi Adityanath and Arvind Kejriwal engaged in a heated exchange, with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister calling Delhi a “garbage dump” and accusing the AAP government of failing to provide essential services. Adityanath alleged that Kejriwal had turned the holy Yamuna river into a “dirty drain,” labeling it a “sin.” He challenged him to take a dip in the Yamuna with his ministers, stating, “Yesterday, I along with all my ministers took a holy dip at the Sangam in Prayagraj… I want to ask Kejriwal whether he can bathe in the Yamuna in Delhi along with his ministers.”

Kejriwal quickly retaliated, criticizing Adityanath’s governance in Uttar Pradesh, particularly the condition of government schools. He remarked, “His government has been in power for more than 10 years, he has not been able to fix the government schools.” Offering help, Kejriwal said, “We will teach Uttar Pradesh how to fix government schools,” and pointed out that the BJP, which Adityanath represents, has a poor track record in all 20 states under its rule.

This verbal clash comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls scheduled for February 5. Adityanath’s rally in Delhi was seen as an effort to bolster the BJP’s prospects in the election. However, Kejriwal’s sharp rebuttal signals that the AAP is prepared to counter BJP’s criticisms.

Adityanath’s comments on Delhi’s infrastructure and services also highlighted the contrasts between the two states. While Delhi grapples with issues such as pollution, poor roads, and inadequate public services, Uttar Pradesh faces similar, if not more significant, challenges.

</excerpt>

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come out with a different manifesto for the middle class in Delhi ahead of the February 2025 assembly elections. This marks, for the first time in Indian political history, a party addressing the needs and concerns of the middle-class voter segment directly in its election promises. As a result, AAP is setting a new precedent in addressing the long-overlooked issues of this crucial demographic.

While most parties typically focus on the needs of the poor or specific caste and religious groups, AAP’s manifesto aims to cater to the large and often overlooked middle class. The party has emphasized issues affecting this demographic, which is a significant tax-paying segment in India but rarely the focus of major political agendas.

AAP’s Focus on Key Middle-Class Concerns

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, in a statement, said that political parties have ignored the middle class for a long time. “This section, comprising teachers, salaried employees, lawyers, and professionals, is subjected to multiple taxes,” Kejriwal said. He said that those who earn between Rs 10-12 lakh per annum are heavily taxed, which gives rise to the concept of “tax terrorism.

देश का असली सुपर पावर हमारा मिडिल क्लास है। इतिहास में पहली बार एक पार्टी मिडिल क्लास के लिए मैनिफ़ेस्टो जारी कर रही है। https://t.co/p4miJifgon

— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) January 22, 2025

Kejriwal also underscored the financial pressures faced by young families, where family planning decisions often come down to financial limitations, largely driven by taxes. He drew a comparison, stating that the government often uses taxpayers’ money for corporate loan waivers instead of public welfare. In contrast, the AAP government in Delhi has focused on improving education and healthcare, resulting in nearly four lakh children switching from private to government schools under its tenure.

AAP’s Demands Ahead of Budget 2025

Kejriwal urged the government to dedicate the upcoming national Budget to the middle class. AAP’s manifesto for the middle class includes several demands aimed at easing financial burdens and improving quality of life. These demands are as follows:

Increase Education Budget: Raise the education budget from 2% to 10% of the GDP and cap private school fees.

Higher Education Subsidies: Introduce subsidies and scholarships for higher education to make it more accessible.

Boost Health Budget: Increase the health budget to 10% of the GDP and remove taxes on health insurance premiums.

Income Tax Exemption Slab: Raise the income tax exemption limit from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh annually.

GST-Free Essential Commodities: Exempt essential goods from Goods and Services Tax (GST) to reduce living costs.

Senior Citizens’ Welfare: Provide strong pension and retirement plans for senior citizens.

Railway Concessions for Senior Citizens: Reintroduce railway concessions for senior citizens to ease their travel expenses.

Kejriwal called on the people to support these demands through the AAP’s online platform, middleclassmanifesto.com. Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to back the cause for a fairer, more equitable society, emphasizing the importance of collective action in bringing about change.

AAP’s Commitment to the Middle Class

AAP in the release of this manifesto is not only targeting the middle class to address their grievances but also posturing itself as the only party with a clear agenda for the critical voter group. In terms of improving public services such as education, health, and infrastructure, AAP aims to strengthen its appeal to a wide range of voters who traditional political parties have long marginalized. As the elections draw closer, this unique manifesto could play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi’s political landscape.

</excerpt>

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, unleashed a bitter attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police for supposedly diluting the law and order situation in the city on January 22, 2025. According to Kejriwal, Amit Shah has taken control of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election campaign, and that the law enforcement machinery of Delhi was abetting it.

Delhi Police Allegedly Deployed for BJP Campaign

Arvind Kejriwal said, “Amit Shah has taken charge of the BJP’s election campaign, and the entire Delhi Police force has been pulled out from enforcing law and order in the city. Instead, they are now working to push BJP’s agenda.” The Delhi Chief Minister further accused that police officers are stationed at key election campaign spots to ensure that voters get incentives such as money and sarees, which are being distributed by BJP workers.

दिल्ली चुनाव में इनकी धोखाधड़ी से बात नहीं बनी तो अब बीजेपी खुलेआम गुंडागर्दी पर उतर आई है। https://t.co/4VPlkdzm16

— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) January 22, 2025

According to Kejriwal, the police’s involvement in these activities marks a grave collapse of the National Capital’s law and order situation. He noted that instead of upholding public order, the Delhi Police is being used as a tool for the BJP’s political gain.

Police Allegedly Disrupting AAP Events

Kejriwal has also mentioned that SHOs who are the station house officers, in charge of local police stations, have privately told him that they are receiving instructions from MHA to scuttle the meetings. “Police bring the goons from BJP to attend these programs and let them commit hooliganism”, he alleged with this charge pointing toward the use of law enforcement as an instrument to foment trouble at the AAP gathering sites.

Intimidation and Fear Tactics Against AAP Supporters

In his press statements, Kejriwal underlined the sense of fear that has gripped the city. He charged Delhi Police with threats to AAP workers and supporters to deter them from supporting the party. “An atmosphere of fear has been deliberately created to dissuade people from voting for AAP,” he claimed.

The AAP leader stated his reservations about the coming election, fearing that he said the voters may be stopped from casting their ballots on the day of the polls. “I am scared that on the day of polling, they will not let people vote,” Kejriwal added while demanding a transparent and fair process of the election.

The elections being close, AAP and BJP continue to flare up against each other by leveling charges of unfair practices and interference.

</excerpt>

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal made a significant announcement on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, aimed at addressing the longstanding challenges faced by Delhi’s Dhobi community. Kejriwal pledged to establish a dedicated Dhobi Samuday Welfare Board if the AAP government is re-elected, underscoring the party’s commitment to social justice and empowerment. Highlighting the community’s vital contributions to Delhi’s economy and the systemic challenges they face, Kejriwal announced a series of “7 Guarantees” to uplift their livelihoods, improve access to basic services, and enhance their socio-economic welfare. These guarantees include regularizing ironing stands, resuming the stalled licensing process for Dhobis, charging domestic rates for electricity and water, providing quality education, scholarships, and skill training for their children, and creating welfare schemes for elderly Dhobis.

Representatives from the Delhi Dhobi Mahasabha met with Kejriwal to express their gratitude, stating that these measures would transform the lives of thousands of Dhobis across the city while pledging their support to AAP. Speaking at the party headquarters, Kejriwal said, “The Dhobi community has long faced numerous challenges without a unified platform to address their issues. If our government is formed, we will establish the Dhobi Samuday Welfare Board to act as a single platform where community members can present their concerns and suggestions. The board will help formulate policies to improve their profession and overall quality of life.”

He announced that ironing stands in various colonies, many of which remain unregularized, would be legalized to prevent harassment from authorities. Additionally, the halted licensing process for Dhobis would be resumed. Kejriwal further highlighted the financial struggles of Dhobis, who earn minimal income while covering household expenses, children’s education, and medical costs. He criticized the current practice of charging commercial rates for electricity and water, stating, “It is unfair that Dhobis, who already earn so little, are charged the same rates as large malls and shops. We will ensure that electricity and water for Dhobi-related work will be charged at domestic rates.”

He also pledged welfare schemes for elderly Dhobis, with the Dhobi Samuday Welfare Board overseeing their implementation. “Scholarships and quality education will be arranged for Dhobi children, and skill training will be provided to help the youth improve their livelihoods. The community will also be regularly informed about Delhi Government schemes to ensure they benefit from them,” he added. Ravi Kumar, President of the Delhi Dhobi Mahasabha, welcomed the announcement, stating, “The Dhobi community has long struggled with lack of attention from government departments and numerous obstacles in accessing basic services. The establishment of a welfare board will provide us with a single-window system to access government policies and address our issues. On behalf of the entire Dhobi community, I thank Arvind Kejriwal for this much-needed initiative.”

</excerpt>

A day after an alleged assault on his vehicle during election canvassing, AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his disappointment over the unprecedented level of violence in campaigning. Speaking on Sunday, Kejriwal accused BJP’s New Delhi candidate Parvesh Verma’s supporters of orchestrating the attack, terming it a “murderous attempt.”

“The people of Delhi have never seen such violent campaigning. This attack shows their desperation as they are losing badly,” Kejriwal remarked.

The AAP alleged that the incident occurred during Kejriwal’s campaign in the New Delhi constituency on Saturday, with “goons” targeting his vehicle. Meanwhile, Kejriwal dismissed Verma’s claim that he would lose the seat by 20,000 votes, sarcastically responding, “Let him live in his dreams for a few more days.”

In addition to addressing the alleged attack, Kejriwal announced a proposal aimed at improving housing for government employees in Delhi. </excerpt>

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal strongly condemned the fatal attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, describing it as a glaring example of the deteriorating law and order situation under BJP-led governments at both state and central levels. Highlighting systemic failures, Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s inability to ensure public safety, even for high-profile individuals, and called their governance a failure. He questioned the BJP’s capability to govern effectively, pointing to rising crime, rampant gangster activities, and increasing insecurity across the country.

Speaking to the media, Kejriwal shared details of the incident, stating that unidentified assailants broke into Saif Ali Khan’s home through a window and attacked him six times with knives. The actor is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. “We pray for his speedy recovery, but it is alarming that such a prominent actor, living in what should be a secure home, could be attacked in this manner. This raises serious concerns about the state and central governments’ ability to ensure security,” he said.

He also noted other high-profile incidents in Mumbai, such as the daylight murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui and the shootout involving Salman Khan. “If even celebrities and influential figures aren’t safe, and the BJP’s so-called double-engine government cannot provide them security, what hope does the common man have?” Kejriwal asked. Kejriwal further criticized reports of gangsters in Gujarat jails orchestrating extortion and shootouts without fear of reprisal. “Across the country, criminals are operating fearlessly, seemingly under the protection of those in power. This lawlessness shows how the BJP has completely failed to address crime,” he added.

He also slammed the BJP for failing to secure India’s borders. “They constantly raise alarms about Rohingyas crossing into the country, yet they admit they can’t stop them. If you can’t secure the borders, resign. Protecting borders is the primary responsibility of any government. If you’re unable to do so, step aside,” Kejriwal asserted. Addressing crime in Delhi, Kejriwal highlighted the prevalence of gang wars, extortion threats to traders, and rising cases of missing children and crimes against women. “Delhi streets are witnessing open gunfights. Traders live in fear due to extortion calls, and citizens—women and children—are unsafe. This BJP government has failed utterly in its duty to protect people,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Kejriwal condemned the attack on Saif Ali Khan in the strongest terms, urging the central government to prioritize public safety over political games. “Stop playing dirty politics and do the job you were elected to do. Your primary duty is to protect lives and deliver justice, but you’ve failed on both fronts. If celebrities are targeted, what hope does the common man have?” In response to media queries, Kejriwal pointed out that Delhi’s crime rate has quadrupled since 2013. “What is the government waiting for? Are they waiting for public pressure to act? Safety cannot be compromised. If Pakistan attacks tomorrow, will they wait for pressure then too? This government is asleep at the wheel, focused on politics rather than governance,” he said.

Commenting on the initial investigation into the attack, Kejriwal emphasized the need for safety above all else. “Whatever the reasons behind the attack, nothing justifies violence. Life is precious, and without safety, nothing else matters. A safe society is the foundation of everything,” he concluded.

Accusations of misusing government vehicles spark a high-stakes political battle. Arvind Kejriwal posted on X, “Aam Aadmi Party is fighting against the entire system. This rotten system has to be changed and cleaned together with the people. Both BJP and Congress are part of the same rotten system.”
</excerpt>

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has been named in an FIR for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. This comes before the Delhi Assembly elections which is scheduled for February 5, 2025. The FIR was lodged following accusations of using a government vehicle for personal purposes. The returning officer filed the complaint after spotting a Public Works Department (PWD) vehicle delivering election campaign materials to an AAP office.

Kejriwal Responds to FIR Against Atishi

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal confirmed that police filed an FIR against Atishi as she prepares to submit her nomination for today’s Kalkaji constituency. Reacting strongly, Kejriwal criticized the selective application of the law, stating, “Their leaders openly distribute money, sarees, blankets, gold chains, etc., get fake votes made, yet not even an FIR is registered. But an FIR is immediately registered against Chief Minister Atishi ji.”

He added, “Aam Aadmi Party is fighting against the entire system. This rotten system has to be changed and cleaned together with the people. Both BJP and Congress are part of the same rotten system.”

High-Stakes Kalkaji Contest

Atishi, the incumbent MLA from Kalkaji, is once again contesting the high-profile seat, representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Meanwhile, she faces a formidable opponent in veteran BJP leader and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri. Consequently, political analysts and voters are eagerly setting their sights on the Kalkaji battle, which is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched contests in this election.

Separate Complaint Filed by Kalkaji Resident

KS Duggal, a resident of Kalkaji, also filed a complaint at the Govindpuri police station regarding the alleged misuse of government resources. The returning officer directed police to take immediate action against South-East Divisional Executive Engineer Sanjay Kumar.

AAP’s Bid for a Hat-Trick

The AAP, which seeks to clinch a third consecutive term, faces stiff competition from the BJP and Congress. Having emerged as a significant political force, the AAP aims to replicate its earlier successes in Delhi and beyond. In its decade-long journey, the party has achieved national party status and expanded its influence to states like Punjab.
