</excerpt>

Amid the intense political fallout from the arrest of his former aide Bibhav Kumar in connection with the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MLA Swati Maliwal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal fiercely criticized the BJP-led Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Referencing the arrest of several of his party leaders, the CM, who is himself out on interim bail regarding a money laundering case linked to the scrapped Delhi excise policy, questioned if the people had elected a prime minister or a ‘thanedar’ (police officer).

Addressing a public rally in Bhajanpura ahead of the May 25 Lok Sabha polling in the national capital, the AAP national convenor stated, “It is up to you (people). If you vote for the ‘Lotus’ symbol (of the BJP), I will have to go back to jail. But if you push the ‘Hand’ symbol (of ally Congress), I may not have to go to jail. They (BJP) have unleashed ‘gundagardi’ (hooliganism) on the Opposition.”

Highlighting the arrests of key party figures Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendar Jain in separate cases, the CM remarked, “They put Satyendar Jain, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh in jail. Now, they have also sent my (former) PA behind bars. They are also planning to send Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi to jail. Did we elect a prime minister or a thanedar?”

Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to implicate party leaders in false cases, challenging the ruling party at the Centre to clarify if any money was recovered in the numerous raids on AAP leaders. “They are trying to implicate us in a false and fictitious scam, which they claim to be worth Rs 100 crore. I want to ask them: you conducted over 500 raids. Did you even recover a penny? Where is the 100 crore? Did it vanish into thin air?” Kejriwal asked.

The AAP convenor also led a roadshow in Bhajanpura, part of the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The seat is being contested by the Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar, who is running against BJP heavyweight and incumbent MP Manoj Tiwari. Kanhaiya joined the roadshow led by the AAP chief.

Earlier on Tuesday, the AAP accused the BJP-NDA at the Centre of ‘incompetence and misgovernance’, asserting that the people of Delhi would teach the ruling party a ‘hard lesson’ in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The ruling party in the national capital also responded to Union Minister Amit Shah’s accusations of corruption against the AAP. Shah had launched a scathing attack on Kejriwal, saying he had never seen anyone take as many ‘U-turns’ as the Delhi CM. Accusing Kejriwal of scams worth crores, Shah said, “I have never seen a more shameless person in my life (than Kejriwal). After Lalu-ji was sentenced (in the fodder case), he stepped down as (Bihar) CM. However, Kejriwal continues to cling on to his chair.”

</excerpt>

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, stated on Monday that engineers are working around the clock to restore full capacity to the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant in the national capital, which reopened a day ago after being forced to close due to floods a few days ago.

The Wazirabad plant, one of the three water treatment plants through which the city gets its drinking water supply, had to be shut on July 13 after the flood waters entered its pumping station. As per Kejriwal, the WWT plant was currently operating at a capacity of 54 MGD.
“Capacity of Wazirabad Water treatment plant is 134 MGD. It has started producing 54 MGD. The equipment got most damaged in this plant. Hopefully, it shud start working on full capacity soon. Engineers are working 24×7,” tweeted Kejriwal on Monday.
The chief minister also thanked the Public Works Department, Delhi Jal Board and other agencies for rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected areas.

“I wish to personally thank PWD, DJB, army, NDRF, I&FC, navy and all officers and engineers of other depts for working 24×7 to save Delhiites and bringing life to normalcy. Salute to all of them! Thank u!,” tweeted Kejriwal.
On Sunday, Kejriwal informed that the Chandrawal water treatment plant (WTP) had resumed operations after water level in the Yamuna River dropped to 206.03 metres.
The three water treatment plants- Wazirabad, Okhla and Chandrawal- were closed on July 13 as the floodwater entered the pumping stations of these plants. Following the closure of the three treatment plants due to the rising levels of the Yamuna, several areas of the Delhi faced water crisis.

The Okhla water treatment plant started at full capacity on Saturday evening.
The water level of the Yamuna River on Monday morning crossed 205.48 metres, slightly above the danger mark of 205.33 metres, even as the waterlogging situation continues to persist in several parts of the national capital.
As per the Central Water Commission, the water level, which had breached the danger mark, flooding vast swathes of the national capital, was recorded at 205.48 at 7 am on Monday down from 206.02 m at 8 am on Sunday.

According to the statistics, the water level was 205.45 m for the last three hours before 7 a.m.
Previously, the river’s water level was reported at 205.56 meters at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
At 5 p.m. on July 10, the Yamuna River in Delhi breached the danger mark of 205.33 metres.
The hourly water discharge from the Hathni Kund Barrage, which had reached nearly 3,60,000 cusecs on July 11, was 53,955 cusecs at 08:00 PM on Sunday.
On Sunday, Kejriwal promised a ten thousand rupee financial assistance for flood-affected families.

At a joint press conference with the BJP’s Delhi chief, Virendraa Sachdeva, on Saturday, Trivedi said, “AAP workers are being recruited in government positions. And, in a bid to return the favour, these workers are using their government posts to extend benefits to Kejriwal’s party. The CM, who has used public money to build a palace for himself, is now helping party workers earn lakhs.” The BJP leader claimed further that many AAP workers had started taking down their social media accounts fearing that the benefits that they are extending to the ruling party by holding government jobs and drawing far paychecks will become public knowledge.
“This is the same party, which, in an affidavit said, they would neither move into government bugalows nor use laal-batti (official vechicles with beacons). Now, they are misusing government funds. The character of no other party has transformed for the worse, as much as AAP’s,” the BJP MP said.
The BJP’s Delhi chief, Sachdeva said, “The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has revoked nearly 437 recruitments (by AAP government). The first list had 116 people and when we started gathering more information about them, they started deleting their social media accounts as they feared that their misdeeds would become public knowledge. These people are holding cushy government jobs and earning lakhs, and, a cut of their earnings are going to the AAP.”
“I would like to ask Arvind Kejriwal — did you take constitutional approval before giving them (AAP workers) jobs? The Delhi government cannot give jobs without permission from the appropriate authority. You will find corruption in all the departments under the AAP. We demand an immediate inquiry in this matter.”

</excerpt>

On July 7, the Gujarat High Court will hear the appeal from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking for a review of its decision in a case involving the degree of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After the High Court overturned a Central Information Commission (CIC) ruling directing the university to “search for information” regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree, the head of Aam Admi filed the review appeal. Justice Biren Vaishnav gave notice to Gujarat University, the Union government, the Chief Information Commissioner, and former CIC M. Sridhar Acharyulu who had made the decision after allowing the review petition. In his review petition, Kejriwal said the postgraduate degree of Modi was not available on the website of the university or elsewhere in the public domain as claimed by the university and as submitted by Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the university.
“While the court had recorded that PM Modi’s degree is available on the varsity’s website following submissions to that effect by Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, representing the university, upon a scan of the said website…(it) is found that the said degree is not available, but a document referred to as OR (Office Register) is displayed,” the review petition moved by Kejriwal said.
Pointing that Mehta had only orally submitted on the day of the hearing, that too for the first time, that the degree is available on the website, Kejriwal has pleaded that there was thus no opportunity for him to verify the oral submission and that OR cannot be considered as degree as was claimed by the varsity. Submitting that the petitioner had not filed any application for any information and only wrote a letter in April 2016 in response to a letter by CIC, Kejriwal has added that he “never requested the CIC to treat him as an applicant for the purposes of the said information,” and that CIC had instead taken up the proceedings suo motu.
Kejriwal has sought a review of the judgment and a stay on the implementation, operation and execution of the verdict until final disposal.
Earlier on March 31, Gujarat High Court had set aside the Chief Information Commission (CIC) order and ruled that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) need not furnish the degree and postgraduate degree certificates of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was also charged Rs 25,000 in costs by the High Court for his request for information regarding the Prime Minister’s degree certificate.

Kejriwal expressed during a joint press conference in Chennai “We discussed with him today the Centre’s ordinance against the Delhi government. It is undemocratic and unconstitutional. CM Stalin has assured that DMK will stand by AAP and the people of Delhi.”

Stalin stated that the DMK will vigorously oppose the ordinance proposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu chief minister said “Arvind Kejriwal is a good friend…Modi-led BJP government is pressuring Delhi UT and AAP government there, by using Lt Governor. BJP government will bring an ordinance on Delhi and DMK will strongly oppose it. We had a discussion on other leaders’ views and I appeal to all leaders to support Arvind Kejriwal.”

The meeting with Stalin was part of Kejriwal’s nationwide tour, which began on May 23rd, to rally opposition parties against the ordinance. On June 2, Kejriwal will meet with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

“On June 2, I will meet the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren ji in Ranchi. Will seek their support against the ordinance passed by the Modi government against the people of Delhi,” he said in a tweet.

The AAP national convenor has already met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav.

The AAP leader claimed in the video that the BJP has a “ego” for power and threatens everyone. “They keep threatening everyone with jail if they don’t obey us. These people are threatening to imprison Kejriwal, but what will happen? “He inquired. When asked about his journey, Delhi Chief Minister said: “You’re saying Kejriwal is a crook. I used to work in income tax, where I could make as much money as I wanted. I quit my job and spent many years working in Delhi’s slums.” According to the AAP leader, if he is corrupt, no man in the world is honest.

“Kejriwal lives for the country and will die for the country; if you call me 100 times for the CBI and ED, I will go 100 times,” he said, adding, “I love the country and Bharat Mata, and I am willing to sacrifice my life for it.”

Kejriwal has been summoned as a witness and is not a defendant in the excise policy case in which his former deputy Manish Sisodia was arrested on February 26 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The ED arrested Sisodia last month. The Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which grants licences to liquor traders, is said to have favoured certain dealers who allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge strongly denied by the AAP.

According to officials, the CBI may also question Kejriwal about the statements of other accused, who have indicated how policy was allegedly influenced to favour some liquor businessmen and the “South liquor lobby.”

Furthermore, the agency may seek his involvement in the formulation of excise policy as well as his knowledge of alleged influence wielded by traders and ‘South lobby’ members, according to officials.

The CBI summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in connection with the liquor policy case on Sunday, in a major development in the Delhi excise policy case. According to sources, the Aam Aadmi Party will protest in the national capital on Sunday during the questioning of party chief Kejriwal at the CBI office.
“If Arvind Kejriwal is corrupt, there is no one in the world who is honest,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday, a day after the CBI summoned him for questioning in the excise policy case.During a press conference, he stated, “They (CBI) have called me, and I will definitely go tomorrow. There is no one in the world who is honest if Arvind Kejriwal is corrupt… If the BJP has directed the CBI to arrest me, the CBI will undoubtedly comply.”Later, on Twitter, Kejriwal stated that appropriate cases will be filed against officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate for “perjury and producing false evidence in courts.”
“We will file appropriate cases in courts against CBI and ED officials for perjury and producing false evidence,” he said. Kejriwal also claimed that he knew he would be called in by the CBI the day he spoke out against corruption in the Delhi assembly.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, a key aide to Kejriwal, is in jail for alleged excise fraud. The ED and CBI arrested Sisodia as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s excise policy.
On February 26, the CBI arrested Sisodia. After hours of questioning at Tihar Jail, the ED arrested him on March 9. According to the ED and the CBI, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced, and the L-1 licence was extended without the approval of the competent authority.
The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their account books to avoid detection, according to the investigation agencies.

I and my God know that all these allegations are false. These allegations are in fact nothing more than a conspiracy of cowardly and weak people who are scared of Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of truth. I am not their target, you [Kejriwal] are their target. Because today not only Delhi but the people of the whole country are seeing you as a leader who has a vision for the country and the ability to bring big changes in the lives of the people by implementing it

</excerpt>

The CBI on Sunday, February 26, arrested Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor excise policy case after approximate 8 hours of questioning.

Prior to reaching the office of CBI, the Deputy Chief Minister, Sisodia stated that false cases are being lodged against leaders of the ruling party as PM Modi was “afraid,” of Delhi’s CM, Kejriwal.

“Conspiracies are being hatched by the CBI and ED and false cases being lodged against our party leaders because PM Narendra Modi is afraid of CM Arvind Kejriwal’s rising popularity. As AAP grows further, BJP will continue to slap false cases on us. We are not afraid of the CBI, ED and their false cases,” Sisodia said.

He furthermore claimed that people were starting to regard the AAP as an alternative to the BJP. He went on to say that the PM while not afraid of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, is scared of the AAP.

“Everyone says that only AAP will rid the country of the BJP in future. Modi-ji may not be scared of Rahul Gandhi but if there’s one party that he is scared, it is the AAP. They will put me in jail, but we are not afraid. We will fight. Kejriwal is the only future leader of this country,” Sisodia stated while addressing supporters at Raj Ghat.

BJP MLAs turned up in the Delhi Assembly called the Kejriwal government ‘anti-farmer’. They carried ploughs and arranged a protest the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation. Farmers in Delhi have to pay Rs 30,000 in road tax as the ‘anti-farmers’ government has declared tractors as commercial. “In Delhi’s Nangli, the Kejriwal government has acquired the land of the farmers and only Rs 22 lakh per bigha has been given as compensation, which is much less than the surrounding areas.

The opposition wants a discussion on this in the House, If the government is not ready for the discussion, then all the BJP MLAs will sit on a protest outside the Chief Minister’s office”, said Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Leader of Opposition.

The AAP leader attacked the L-G for his alleged unconstitutional interference in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) AND Arvind-led Delhi Government. “I urge Delhi LG to not act like a tribal chieftain to appease his big boss but to follow the Constitution. Instead of paying attention to law and order, Delhi Police and land encroachment, the LG is interfering in an elected government’s work”, Manish Sisodia, the Delhi Chief Minister alleged.
