Caught on surveillance, he caused major product loss before casually exiting. He now faces felony charges but has pleaded not guilty.
</excerpt>

In a strange and disturbing episode, the 70-year-old Florida man was arrested for urinating on a huge lot of canned meat items at a Sam’s Club store, resulting in damages of more than Rs. 9 lakh ($10,500). The incident took place at a branch of the store in Lady Lake, which is a town near Orlando.

As per a New York Post report, the suspect, Patrick Francis Mitchell, was obviously visible on surveillance camera footage committing the act in aisle 18. The video revealed Mitchell heading towards a pile of Vienna sausages and Spam cans, standing in front of the display, putting hands below his waist, and remaining motionless for a few seconds.

“Behavior consistent with urination,” noted Marion County Detective Ronnie Williams in his formal report, adding the video left little question as to what had happened.

Massive Product Loss

The store lost 345 packages of Spam Classic and 188 packages of Vienna sausages, representing a huge loss of over $10,500 because of the contamination. The wholesale retailer considered affected items unsellable, and this brought a huge financial loss.

What made the event more bizarre was the relaxed attitude of Mitchell after the act. Rather than escaping quickly, he walked to the snack area and after some time was spotted relaxing on patio furniture showcased for a period of about ten minutes. He then returned some merchandise, paid as if nothing happened, and left the store.

Arrest and Legal Action

Mitchell was subsequently arrested by police at his residence in the Village of Piedmont, a retirement village dubbed “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.” He and his wife occupy the home.

He faces charges of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. As the damage was over $1,000, the criminal mischief charge is a felony according to Florida law. Mitchell has been said to have entered a plea of not guilty and has been released since on a $3,000 bond.

He argued that the arrest reflected the government’s “lack of respect for the creative industry.” This followed the actor’s detention in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw strongly criticized the Congress-led Telangana government after actor Allu Arjun’s arrest. He argued that the arrest reflected the government’s “lack of respect for the creative industry.” This followed the actor’s detention in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad.

Details of the Incident at Sandhya Theatre

The stampede occurred when a large crowd gathered to see Allu Arjun. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when the theatre failed to provide a separate exit for the actor and his entourage. As a result, Revathi tragically died in the chaos, and her son Sri Teja suffered severe asphyxiation. He remains hospitalized.

Vaishnaw Blames Poor Arrangements for the Tragedy

Vaishnaw placed the blame on the state and local administration for their poor management of the event. He suggested that the government was using Arjun’s arrest as a way to deflect responsibility. In his post on X, Vaishnaw said, “Congress has no respect for the creative industry and the arrest of Allu Arjun proves it yet again. The mishap at Sandhya Theatre was a clear case of poor arrangements by the state and local administration. Now, to deflect the blame, they are indulging in such publicity stunts.”

Vaishnaw Urges Government to Focus on Victims

Instead of focusing on the arrest of film personalities, Vaishnaw urged the Telangana government to help the victims of the tragedy. He added, “It is also sad to see this becoming a norm in the one year Congress has been in power there.”

Opposition Parties Speak Out in Support of Allu Arjun

Meanwhile, KT Rama Rao, working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), condemned the arrest, calling it a reflection of the “insecurity of the rulers.” He emphasized that treating Allu Arjun like a criminal was unjust, as he wasn’t directly responsible for the incident. Rao also criticized the Congress government’s “high-handed” actions.

CM Revanth Reddy Responds

In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that the Telangana government had no involvement in Arjun’s arrest. He clarified that the law was simply following its course.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Arjun was arrested at his residence and taken to the Chikkadpally police station. Following a medical examination at Gandhi Hospital, he was brought before a court. The court remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. However, the Telangana High Court later granted him interim bail. Due to delays in the release of his bail order, Arjun had to spend the night in jail but was ultimately released the following morning.

</excerpt>

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Noida for allegedly issuing death threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan and Zeeshan Siddiqui, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and son of the late NCP (Ajit Pawar) leader Baba Siddique, who was tragically shot dead on October 12. The accused, identified as Gufran Khan, is now in custody, having been taken on a transit remand by the Mumbai Police.

Threats Sent to Siddiqui’s Office

The threatening messages were reportedly sent to Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra on Friday evening, demanding a ransom for the safety of both Khan and Siddiqui. Following the receipt of these messages, a staff member at Siddiqui’s office promptly registered a police complaint, leading to the filing of an FIR. Through their investigation, police identified another suspect, Mohammed Tayyab, as the individual behind the threats, resulting in his arrest.

Connection to Previous Threats

This incident follows the earlier arrest of Shaikh Hussain Shaikh Mausin, a 24-year-old vegetable seller from Jamshedpur, who had sent a threatening message via Mumbai traffic police’s WhatsApp helpline. That message demanded a ransom of ₹5 crore, heightening concerns over the safety of public figures.

Ongoing Security Concerns for Salman Khan

Salman Khan has previously faced death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with alarming incidents including gunfire outside his residence in Bandra back in April. In light of the ongoing threats, the actor’s security measures have been significantly intensified.

The recent threats against Zeeshan Siddique come just weeks after the shocking murder of his father, Baba Siddique, known for his close ties to Salman Khan. The police continue to investigate these threats and enhance security for those involved.

</excerpt>

On Sunday, the Rajasthan police’s special operations group arrested Ramu Ram Raika, a former member of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), who had been suspended for allegedly providing his children with a leaked question paper for the 2021 sub-inspector recruitment exam. Raika, who served on the RPSC from 2018 to 2022, has been placed in police remand until September 7. His son and daughter, Devesh and Shobha, along with three trainee sub-inspectors—Manju Devi, Avinash Palsania, and Vijendra Kumar—have also been arrested.

The leak of the exam paper came to light in March, following a police crackdown on the 2021 sub-inspector and platoon commander recruitment exam. The police subsequently arrested around 38 individuals involved in the scandal.

In the wake of the leak, all members of the 2021 training batch at the Rajasthan Police Academy were required to retake the test. Sources indicate that their performance was notably poor, even on basic general knowledge questions.

An official noted that, despite not having negative marking in the retest, the candidates still underperformed. For example, Manju Devi, who had originally scored 183.75 in Hindi and 167.89 in general knowledge, managed only 52 correct answers in Hindi and 71 in general knowledge during the retest. Similarly, Vijendra Kumar, with initial scores of 168.28 in Hindi and 157.59 in general knowledge, could only answer 49 questions correctly in Hindi and 62 in general knowledge in the retest.

Raika’s children, Shobha and Devesh, had passed the exam with Shobha ranking fifth and Devesh ranking 40th.

</excerpt>

Pavel Durov, the co-founder of the Telegram messaging app, was arrested in France in connection with an investigation into criminal activities on the platform and a lack of cooperation with law enforcement. Durov, a Russian-born billionaire with French citizenship, was detained at Le Bourget airport near Paris after arriving from Azerbaijan on his private jet. The arrest, which French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized was not politically motivated, has sparked a global debate over free speech and has been met with outrage in Moscow.

The Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, stated that the investigation involves illicit transactions, child sexual abuse, fraud, and Telegram’s refusal to provide information to authorities. Jean-Michel Bernigaud, secretary general of Ofmin, a French agency aimed at preventing violence against children, linked the arrest to Telegram’s inadequate efforts to combat crime on the platform, particularly the spread of child sexual abuse material.

Telegram has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that it abides by EU laws and that its moderation practices are in line with industry standards. Durov’s arrest has reignited discussions on the responsibilities of social media platforms in preventing illegal activities and balancing free speech with safety.

In response to the arrest, some Russian officials have criticized it as an example of Western hypocrisy on free speech, with Russian politicians and the embassy in France expressing support for Durov. Meanwhile, Elon Musk condemned the arrest, framing it as an attack on free speech in Europe. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between tech companies and governments over the regulation of content on digital platforms.

</excerpt>

The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government apprehended a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) driver, Niranjan, on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The bribe was reportedly offered by a water tanker owner seeking clearance of his pending dues amounting to Rs 30 lakh from DJB.

The incident unfolded when the water tanker owner approached Delhi ACB, accusing Niranjan of demanding a bribe to facilitate the payment of outstanding rent owed since 2022 for his tankers hired by DJB. This marks the first case filed by Delhi ACB under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (ACB) Manoj Meena, the complainant initially approached Junior Engineer Sandeep Shekhar to resolve the issue but was directed to Niranjan instead. Allegedly, Niranjan demanded a 10% commission on the pending amount and managed to clear Rs 14 lakh as a gesture, but insisted on Rs 1.4 lakh for the remainder.

Upon receiving the complaint, a sting operation was swiftly organized. During a pre-arranged meeting, Niranjan was caught red-handed accepting the bribe of Rs 50,000. During interrogation, Niranjan purportedly divulged that Shekhar instructed him to collect the bribe.

</excerpt>

A special court in Rawalpindi granted interim bail on Tuesday to Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a £190 million graft case. Bushra Bibi and Khan were accused of receiving financial assistance from a land developer to establish Al Qadir University.
Imran Khan has been in jail since last August following convictions in several cases ahead of February’s general election. However, a UN human rights working group declared on Monday that his imprisonment was arbitrary and violated international law.
“The special accountability court granted bail,” ARY News reported on X, referring to the interim bail. This development follows the Islamabad High Court’s decision two months ago to approve bail for Imran Khan in the same case.
Both Khan and Bushra Bibi deny any wrongdoing regarding the alleged receipt of financial help from a land developer in setting up Al Qadir University. Despite the bail, Bushra Bibi will remain in prison as she is also serving a sentence after her marriage to Khan was ruled unlawful.
Khan and his party claim that the charges are politically motivated to prevent his return to power. Recently, Pakistani courts have suspended Khan’s jail sentences in two cases related to the illegal acquisition and sale of state gifts and overturned his conviction for leaking state secrets. The former cricket superstar continues to fight dozens of other cases.

</excerpt>

Sri Lankan authorities have arrested 137 Indian nationals suspected of orchestrating a large-scale online financial scam across multiple locations in the country, according to a media report on Friday. The arrests were made on Thursday in the Colombo suburbs of Madiwela and Battaramulla, as well as the western coastal town of Negombo, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa told the Daily Mirror newspaper.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) conducted coordinated raids in these areas, resulting in the seizure of 158 mobile phones, 16 laptops, and 60 desktop computers. In Negombo, 55 suspects were detained along with 55 mobile phones and 29 laptops.

In Kochchikade, authorities apprehended 53 individuals and confiscated 31 laptops and 58 mobile phones. The operation in Madiwela led to the arrest of 13 suspects and the recovery of eight laptops and 38 mobile phones, while in Thalangama, 16 suspects were taken into custody with eight laptops and 38 mobile phones. All the arrested suspects were males, SSP Thalduwa confirmed.

The crackdown was initiated following a complaint from a victim who had been lured into a WhatsApp group with promises of cash rewards for social media interactions. Further investigation revealed a scheme where victims were coerced into making deposits after receiving initial payments. In Peradeniya, a father-son duo admitted to aiding the fraudsters, the newspaper reported.

Key evidence uncovered during a raid on a luxury house in Negombo led to the initial arrest of 13 suspects and the seizure of 57 phones and computers. Subsequent operations in Negombo yielded 19 additional arrests, revealing international links to Dubai and Afghanistan. The scam targeted both local and foreign victims.

The suspects are believed to be involved in financial fraud, illegal betting, and various gambling activities. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the scam and its international connections.

</excerpt>

Objecting to his daughter wanting to marry someone from a different caste, a 46-year-old man allegedly slit her throat and dumped her body on a farm in Rohini’s Kanjhawala Sunday. The accused, Nand Kishor, has been arrested, officers said Monday.

DCP (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said at 8.53 pm on Sunday, they received a PCR call at Kanjhawla police station regarding the murder of a woman in an agricultural field near Prem Piau in Chandpur village.

Police reached the spot and found the body. The woman, around the age of 20, had deep injuries on her neck and abdomen. “She was shifted to SGM Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival… a case of murder was lodged and a police team formed to arrest the accused. After analysing CCTV footage in the vicinity, the teams found that a taxi had dropped the victim and the accused near the crime scene; they traced the vehicle’s registration number,” said the officer.

Police then traced and arrested the accused. Kishor lives in a rented accommodation in Prem Nagar and does a glass-fitting job.

The DCP said the accused claimed his daughter wanted to marry a man of her choice who was from a different caste. Police said the woman had been in a relationship with the man, a resident of her village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, for the past two years.Officers said Sunday, the accused went to his son’s house in Narela; the victim had been staying with her brother and his wife for the past two months. There, the accused booked a private taxi to Prem Nagar. He was planning to kill her there, claimed police.

“On their way… father-daughter argued in the car… Kishor then asked the driver to stop at Kanjhawla… They got out and he slit his daughter’s throat with a cutter and stabbed her multiple times in the chest in a field in Chandpur village… he dumped her body there before fleeing,” said an officer. Police said the driver is being questioned about what transpired inside the taxi.“The accused told us that during the car ride, he asked his daughter to not be in a relationship with the man as he was from a different caste… the incident did not take place in the heat of the moment and was pre-planned,” said an officer, requesting anonymity. Police said the deceased’s brother is also being questioned to ascertain if he knew about the incident.

In the ongoing Swati Maliwal assault case, accused Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, moved for bail on Saturday, asserting he is not a flight risk. His counsel, senior advocate N Hariharan, told the court that no notice was served to Bibhav before his arrest by Delhi Police.

Bibhav’s lawyer produced videos disputing Maliwal’s assault allegations and argued that Swati Maliwal did not have an appointment to meet CM Kejriwal on May 13, contradicting her claims. The incident, which Bibhav’s counsel described as concocted, allegedly took place in a location covered by CCTV cameras.

“The entire place is covered by CCTV. To get into the office and meet the CM, you need to have a prior appointment, which she did not have,” Hariharan stated, adding that a security breach report had been filed by security personnel.

Bibhav’s legal team emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the investigation but argued against the manner of his arrest. “Without notice, you cannot call me to the police station and make me sit there for hours. An interim protection can be granted,” his lawyer contended.

The court hearing revealed that Maliwal, currently a member of the Rajya Sabha and former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, had approached the SHO on May 13 without lodging a complaint, which she later filed on May 16. This delay was presented as evidence of an alleged conspiracy against Bibhav.

Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Kumar Srivastava informed the court that Bibhav was arrested at 4:15 PM during the bail hearing. Following this, the court disposed of the anticipatory bail plea as infructuous.
