</excerpt>

Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Friday announced that the department would provide ration to senior citizens and differently-abled individuals for the last five days prior to every month.

Doorstep Delivery from 26th to 30th of Each Month in Andhra Pradesh

The minister informed that this decision has been made to facilitate doorstep delivery for elderly people and disabled individuals, which would now be executed between 26th and 30th of each month, essentially the ration for the next month for them will be distributed in the last five days of the previous month.

“The home delivery service benefitted nearly 13 lakh elderly and differently-abled persons, achieving 83 per cent coverage”, said Manohar in an official release.

Majority of Ration Delivered Through Fair Price Shops in Andhra Pradesh

The minister said that out of a total of 1.46 crore cardholders in the state, more than 1.3 crore beneficiaries have so far received ration supplies through 29,796 fair price shops.

Over 89 per cent of the ration distribution was done during the first 15 days of June, Manohar added.

Dealers Urged to Promote Transparency and Cleanliness

The minister told the dealers to take the lead in tribal, far-flung areas and show ration calendars and Quick Response codes for comments outside each fair price shop.

He emphasized hygiene in shops and stated that measures must be taken to raise dealer earnings in association with the central government for long-term and transparent supply chain management.

Dealers to Act as Communication Link with Citizens

He also added that dealers need to serve as a connection between citizens and the government by providing information on supply problems and providing quality competitive services in order to enhance citizen satisfaction.

The government is heading towards paperless governance, and dealers need to be prepared to make changes for increased efficiency and transparency in the ration distribution system, Manohar stated.

Ration Timings Fixed for First 15 Days of Every Month

The minister said that the ration distribution is scheduled between 8 am and noon and 4 pm-8pm from 1 to 15 of every month across the state.

Similarly, Manohar directed rice millers to encourage farmers to grow fine rice during Kharif season, aligning with public demand and export market opportunities.

Focus on Consumption and Export of Fine Rice

“Millers should work collectively to ensure that farmers earn profits and the government’s reputation remains intact,” said Manohar in the official release.

The rice millers have to go ahead not only with an eye on consumption in the country but also on rice exports, according to the leader of the Janasena party.

The government is encouraging the use of fine rice, with an eye on the eating habits of people, he stated. The rice millers, therefore, should take a key role in having farmers move in that direction, he added.

</excerpt>

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) future has ignited a political battle between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh CM, N Chandrababu Naidu has proposed the construction of a greenfield facility of HAL in his state.

Karnataka, the home state to HAL’s principal infrastructure, has reacted aggressively and swiftly in the interim. Any plan that would alter or diminish the state’s critical place in India’s defense production infrastructure has been opposed by several Karnataka ministers.

Greenfield Proposal Sparks Tensions

At a recent meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, CM Naidu offered 10,000 acres of land for a potential HAL expansion near Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh, barely 70 km from the Karnataka border. Interestingly, he specified that he had no desire to relocate any of the existing HAL units. Instead, his intention is to create space for indigenous systems and future defence platforms such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

Significantly, the proposal looks inviting, sources who were present during the meeting say. Safety setbacks that are critical, and which could be harder to obtain in jammed Karnataka pockets, have sufficient space at the proposed site. Yet, the timing of the proposal and its political hue have created a lot of storm in Karnataka.

Karnataka Leaders Stand Firm

The Karnataka government has closed ranks in retort. No Chief Minister can alter HAL’s present operations in Bengaluru, said MB Patil, Large and Medium Industries Minister. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced that there would be no relocation during his tenure.

Further, Karnataka would shield HAL infrastructure at all costs, said Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. He underlined that Jawaharlal Nehru specifically selected Bengaluru for HAL because the city has a well-trained technical manpower. He also underlined HAL’s commitment to defense manufacturing by highlighting that the Congress state government had generously given land in Tumakuru for the company’s helicopter division.

Centre Silent Amid Political Heat

Karnataka leaders themselves have expressed their anger at the silence of the state’s MPs and Union Ministers. DK Shivakumar appealed to them to safeguard Karnataka’s interests and openly criticized their silence. The Medical Education and Skill Development Minister, Sharan Prakash Patil, took it one step ahead and made it clear that remaining quiet would be a betrayal of the economic interests and heritage of the state.

Worth noting is that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh sanctioned the model of execution of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project amid heightened tensions. Bengaluru remains to be the location of this critical project, with the Aeronautical Development Agency and HAL in collaboration, highlighting the city’s continued strategic importance.

Future of Tejas and AMCA at Stake

HAL is already expanding its capacity at the same time. The Indian Air Force has ordered the company to build 83 LCA Mk1A variants under a contract worth ₹6,500 crore. Also, additional land, infrastructure, and human resources will be required in the future projects like the AMCA and the Tejas Mk2.

The government will eventually have to consider other areas based on these demands. It is not clear whether that expansion goes into Andhra Pradesh or occurs in Karnataka.

Two states are in a high-stakes battle to ensure each one’s place in India’s defense manufacturing future due to the HAL expansion plan. Karnataka remains keen on retaining its long-standing position, despite the fresh chance being presented by Andhra Pradesh. The political and strategic battle is becoming more fierce as long as the Center does not take a stand.

</excerpt>

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet, headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Tuesday decided to scrap the practice of door delivery of essential commodities to consumers under the public distribution system and re-introduce fair price shops to disburse the commodities from June 1.

Feedback Reveals Gaps in MDU Distribution System

Following the cabinet meeting, state civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar informed that it was decided to end the existing procedure of supplying ration commodities via Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs) introduced by the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime.

“The decision was taken after obtaining the feedback from the consumers through a survey. It was revealed that 25% of ration card-holders did not receive essential commodities, and another 26% consumers complained that MDU operators were charging higher prices,” he told reporters.

He reported that there were other working deficiencies in the distribution of commodities via MDUs, including diversion of commodities, inability to cover entire areas and shortage of manpower to operate MDUs.

₹353.81 Crore Saved, Fair Price Shops to Return from June 1 in Andhra Pradesh

“The scrapping of the scheme will save the government ₹353.81 crore. So, starting June 1, the government will reintroduce 29,000 fair price shops that were existing earlier,” he said, adding that door-delivery of commodities would be done only in case of senior citizens and to persons with disabilities.

Manohar stated that the earlier government had bought 9,260 MDUs at ₹1,860 crore, and another ₹200 crore was spent on a pilot project. “Beneficiaries who had received vans under the SC, ST, BC, EBC and other welfare corporations and had already paid 10% of the cost of the vehicle will get full ownership of such vans free,” he added.

Andhra Pradesh Signs MoUs with IBM, TCS, L&T for Quantum Valley Project

State information and public relations minister K Parthasarathy announced that the state cabinet approved three distinct Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) entered into between the state government and global IT majors IBM, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for establishing the “Quantum Valley” project at Amaravati.

“Backed by these technology giants, Andhra Pradesh aims to position itself as India’s leader in advanced technology. The project is expected to nurture cutting-edge innovation, attract world-class talent and create high-quality employment opportunities for the youth of the state. Through strategic partnerships and forward-looking leadership, the state government intends to foster state-of-the-art breakthroughs and build a robust future-ready economy,” he said.

₹9,246 Crore Investment Approved, 7,766 Jobs to be Created

The recommendations of the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) for investment proposals of five firms – Deccan Fine Chemicals, Bharat Electronics Ltd, PUR Energy Pvt Ltd, Blue Jet Healthcare Ltd and Jupiter Renewables Pvt Ltd – were approved by the cabinet.

“These projects, totalling ₹9,246 crore, are expected to create around 7,766 jobs. The state will allocate land and provide necessary infrastructure such as roads, industrial water, and energy,” the minister said.

Green Signal for Bhogapuram Airport, Renewable Energy Projects

The cabinet also accorded the green signal to divert 500 acres of land for the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport.

It also sanctioned several renewable energy and bioenergy projects to be set up in different regions of the state such as Eluru, YSR Kadapa, Anantapur and Sri Satya Sai districts. It also resolved to allocate 41.00 acres of land at YSR Kadapa district for a 1,000 MW pumped storage hydro power project and (₹2.09 crore), and another 12.87 acres at Sri Sathya Sai district for a 500 MW hydro project (₹64.35 lakh) to be established by Adani Green Energy Ltd.

The cabinet also approved the setting up of India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) under the Bar Council of India Trust in Amaravati and relocation of headquarters of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University from Hyderabad to Rajamahendravaram.

Humor and sweet comments ensued, with one posting, “As a professional hater, can’t hate this… too cute,” and another stating, “This is adorable! You found your soulmate! He has kind eyes.”

Jaclyn and Chandan also share their life together on a shared YouTube channel. The channel’s bio shares a deeper glimpse into their journey: “A divorced Christian mother struggling to find love centered on faith meets a younger man on Instagram living in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh. With an enormous list of breaking cultural taboos such as age, culture, race, and economic status, the tale of Jackie and Chandhan proves that a man with nothing according to the world’s standards has everything to give when the cry of one woman’s heart was for a man after God’s own heart.

India is making tremendous strides in upgrading its submarine naval force. It intends to commission a fresh strategic naval base in Andhra Pradesh by 2026 and induct its third nuclear-powered submarine, the INS Aridhaman. India’s defense officials have also cleared the building of two nuclear-powered attack submarines. These measures highlight India’s resolve to strengthening its naval defense in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) to counter increasing threats from China and Pakistan. They also indicate a wider change in naval power balance in the IOR, which is fast emerging as a global geopolitical hotbed.

India’s New Strategic Naval Base in Andhra Pradesh

India will open a new naval base in Andhra Pradesh by 2026. Located close to Rambilli, the base will accommodate nuclear-powered submarines and sophisticated warships. Approximately 50 kilometers away from Vishakhapatnam’s Eastern Naval Command, the base is vital for India’s maritime security.

The base will have undersea tunnels and submarine pens to protect its nuclear submarines from satellite monitoring. This will help India to conduct deterrent patrols, particularly through the Malacca Strait. Upon commissioning, the Rambilli base will be an important component of India’s navy defense infrastructure.

This expansion is part of India’s wider plan to secure its interests in the IOR. The initial phase of Project Varsha, associated with the Rambilli base, is almost finished. The expansion will take a cue from India’s upgraded Karwar base, which can now house more warships.

The INS Aridhaman: Boosting India’s Nuclear Triad

India is also to induct its third nuclear-powered submarine, INS Aridhaman, boosting its nuclear triad. The 7,000-tonnage ship, carrying nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles (SSBN), will be part of the fleet alongside INS Arihant and INS Arighat. With an increased size, the INS Aridhaman is able to carry additional long-range nuclear missiles, strengthening India’s deterrence.

India intends to introduce a fourth SSBN, designated B-4*, further enhancing its nuclear deterrence. The INS Aridhaman, as well as other SSBNs, guarantees that India can counter regional threats effectively, particularly from China and Pakistan. This addition will solidify India’s status as a nuclear power to reckon with in the region.

India’s Naval Modernization

India’s naval reach is a result of China’s increasing presence in the IOR. China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has witnessed the expansion of strategic infrastructure and ports around the region, especially in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. These developments are part of China’s greater game to expand its power to the IOR, a region critical to the world’s global trade and hydrocarbon flows.

In response, India is strengthening its naval capabilities to safeguard its interests. With new naval bases and nuclear-powered submarines, India is asserting itself as a dominant force in the IOR. This aligns with India’s broader vision of maintaining peace and stability while countering any threats to the region’s status quo.

The increasing presence of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in the area is another cause for India’s naval expansion. The PLAN, boasting the world’s largest fleet, is quickly growing and increasingly influential in crucial chokepoints such as the Malacca Strait. India’s naval modernization is intended to keep the power balance in the area and secure important maritime commerce routes.

The Indian Ocean: New Geopolitical Flashpoint

India’s increasing submarine force is a component of a larger movement toward an increasingly competitive naval landscape in the IOR. With strategic chokepoints such as the Malacca Strait, the region is fast becoming a crucial battleground for naval power projection.

India’s nuclear submarines give it an asymmetric edge, enabling it to protect its interests while countering China’s expanding influence. The rising number of Chinese warships and submarines in the IOR directly challenges India’s strategic interests. Pakistan’s navy, also modernized with Chinese help, introduces another dimension to the security situation.

The IOR is rapidly becoming a flashpoint of international power rivalry, with nations competing to control the important sea lanes. India’s strategic investments in the navy are a signal that it does not want to relinquish its role as a dominant power and safeguard its interests against outside intrusions.

The Race for Maritime Dominance in Indian Ocean

India’s investments in submarine forces, new naval bases, and nuclear deterrence are a radical change in the Indian Ocean strategic balance. While China and Pakistan are deepening their navies, India’s enhanced emphasis on its submarine forces guarantees it as a force to be reckoned with within the region. These advancements are not merely about defense—they are about projecting India’s superiority and protecting its maritime interests from increasing external threats.

Though these initiatives place India to confront rising threats from China and Pakistan, they also underscore the greater competition for dominance of the Indian Ocean. As the balance of power changes, India’s increasing naval strength guarantees that it will be able to continue its influence in one of the most strategically significant areas in the world.

Authorities blame overcrowding and lack of proper arrangements. An inquiry has been ordered.
</excerpt>

At least six people lost their lives, and over 40 others sustained injuries in a tragic stampede at Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred amidst overcrowding and chaos as thousands of devotees gathered for tickets to the annual Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple.

The Event and Tragic Turn of Events

The stampede took place near the Vishnu Nivasam temple, where tokens for the darshan were being distributed at multiple counters. Eyewitnesses reported that by evening, the situation spiraled out of control as thousands jostled for tokens. Several women and elderly devotees were caught in the rush, with some sustaining severe injuries.

Visuals from the scene depicted a heavy police presence, ambulances ferrying injured devotees, and emergency responders performing CPR. According to a witness, over 60 individuals fell on one another during the chaos.

Inadequate Arrangements and Eyewitness Accounts

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), responsible for temple management, had set up 94 counters for token distribution. However, insufficient crowd control measures and sudden gate openings aggravated the situation.

An eyewitness who visited with 20 family members said, “The police opened the gates, and the crowd surged forward. Six of my family members were injured in the chaos.” Others criticised the lack of ambulances and delayed medical response.

Government and TTD Responses

The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced compensation for the victims’ families. He is scheduled to visit the site and meet affected families.

TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu called the incident “unfortunate” and ruled out conspiracy theories, labeling it an accident. The board has since convened an emergency meeting to address the lapses and ensure better arrangements for upcoming events.

Leaders Mourn and Call for Action

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, assuring that the state government is providing assistance to the victims. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also shared their sorrow and called for immediate support to those affected.

Criticism was directed at the authorities for negligence, with some leaders attributing the stampede to administrative failures. Former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy called for robust measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the annual Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam continues, authorities are under pressure to strengthen safety measures and prevent further mishaps. Devotees have been urged to remain cautious and adhere to crowd control guidelines during the event.

A 17-year-old girl was burnt alive by a 21-year-old stalker on Monday morning in Nandikotkur town, Andhra Pradesh. The police say the girl had rejected his sexual advances.

Attack Details

The accused, a man from Kalugotla village, approached the girl’s house. He knocked on her door, which was next to her grandmother’s bedroom. When she opened the door, he forced his way in, locked the door, and poured petrol on her. He then set her on fire.

Victim’s Background

The victim was a Class 12 student from Samarlakota. She had moved to her grandmother’s house in Byreddy Nagar Colony six months ago to escape the harassment. “The accused claimed to be in love with her, but she had rejected him. Her parents also advised her to avoid him. She moved to her grandmother’s house to focus on her studies, but he continued to stalk her,” a police officer said.

Granny’s Plea

Around 1 am, the girl’s grandmother heard her screams. She knocked on the door, begging the accused to open it. However, the door was only opened after the girl was completely burnt.

Accused Arrested

The accused also suffered burn injuries. He tried to flee but was caught by neighbors and handed over to the police. He has been charged with murder and will appear in court.

Authorities’ Response

State home minister Vangalapudi Anith expressed deep distress. “I have instructed the Nandyal district superintendent of police, Adhirraj Singh Rana, to fast-track the investigation and take strict action against the accused,” he said.

Historical Context of the Two-Child Norm

Introduced in May 1994, the two-child norm mandated that individuals with over two children were ineligible to contest elections for Gram Panchayats, Mandal Praja Parishads, and Zilla Parishads. The measure aimed to curb population growth. Over three decades later, with significant socio-economic and demographic changes, this restriction has been deemed outdated.

A Decline in Fertility Rates

Andhra Pradesh’s total fertility rate (TFR) currently stands at 1.7 children per woman, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) 2019-21. This is significantly below the replacement level of 2.1 children. Urban areas show even lower fertility rates at 1.47, while rural areas stand at 1.78. Over 77% of married women and 74% of men between the ages of 15 and 49 prefer to have no more children or are already sterilized.

The declining fertility rates prompted the state to reconsider policies designed to control population growth. According to the government, repealing these outdated rules aligns with global best practices and contemporary demographic trends.

Economic and Social Implications

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has advocated for incentivizing families to have more children. He emphasized that promoting higher birth rates is not only a demographic necessity but also an economic imperative in light of the declining fertility rates and population stabilization.

A Step Toward Inclusive Governance

The government stated that repealing the two-child norm would encourage inclusive governance, reflect evolving societal values, and support sustainable demographic trends. The move is expected to pave the way for broader representation in local body elections and adapt governance policies to meet contemporary challenges.

This policy shift marks a significant change in Andhra Pradesh’s approach to governance and demographic planning, with a renewed focus on aligning state policies with present-day realities.

</excerpt>

Residents of Vadluru village, the ancestral home of Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance, took to the streets in celebration as news broke of Donald Trump surpassing the 270 electoral vote threshold in the U.S. elections. The village, situated in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district, is where Usha’s family has its roots.

As word of the election result spread, villagers lit fireworks and cheered, marking the occasion with excitement and pride. Usha Vance, an Indian-American lawyer, is now set to become the first Indian-American Second Lady of the United States in January. The celebration in Vadluru village reflects the pride felt by the Indian-American community, especially those of Telugu heritage, in seeing one of their own in such a prominent role. JD Vance, Usha’s husband, ran on the same ticket as Donald Trump in the U.S. election.

On Tuesday, villagers in Vadluru offered special prayers for JD Vance’s success. Ramana, a local resident, expressed the community’s hopes: “We hope that Trump will win the election. America is countering terrorism across the world. The relations between America and India will improve if Trump becomes the President. There is a big fight between the two (Trump and Kamala Harris). We feel generally proud that (Usha) Vance is a native of Vadluru. We feel proud (about it). They donated the land long ago, but her (Vance’s) relatives are here.”

Earlier that day, JD Vance cast his ballot in person for the U.S. Presidential Elections at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, as reported by CNN. Reflecting on his vote, Vance said, “I felt good about my own race a couple of years ago when I voted in this exact same spot. Hopefully, it goes as well for President Trump and me as it went for me a couple of years ago in the state of Ohio.”

CCTV Captures Fatal Explosion

CCTV footage from the scene reveals the two men riding a white scooter through a narrow lane around 12:17 pm, moments before the explosion. As the street widens near a main road, the ‘onion bombs’ ignite, enveloping the area in dense, dark smoke, scattering debris, and producing a sound akin to an IED detonation. Survivors fled the blast, clutching their ears, likely due to the intense ringing from the blast, and sought help from nearby residents.

</excerpt>

Sachin Pilot criticised the allocation of lakhs of crores of rupees to two states, claiming it was done to further political interests rather than genuine needs. While he expressed no opposition to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, he emphasised that such funding should not be politically motivated. He argued that without understanding how many individuals have not benefited, it becomes challenging to formulate effective policies. He concluded that a caste census is essential for informed policy intervention.
Talking about the conflict in Haryana and Rajasthan over roadways buses, he said that this is just a small example.
“Where all are the conflicts happening. It is happening in power. It is happening in the organisation. There is a BJP government in both the places, yet people are suffering losses. The public is burdened. The central government is yours. The Rajasthan government is yours, the Haryana government is yours. Then whom will you blame. If there is no coordination among themselves,” he said.
Pilot said that there are many such issues where there is no coordination among the state governments.
“An MoU has been signed between Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, but no one has been able to see the MoU till date. The announcement has been made, sweets have been distributed, but no one knows what is written in the MoU. When the government is yours, then why do you want to hide the truth from the people. The government has not been able to answer this,” he said.
Pilot criticised the BJP government for prioritising the renaming of roads and institutions while neglecting substantive public service. He accused the ruling party of using the cow as a political tool to garner votes without providing transparency on expenditures related to cow protection and conservation.
“The Congress government has always prioritised public service and genuinely worked towards the protection of cows,” Pilot stated.
He emphasised that the current administration focuses on speeches rather than concrete actions, suggesting that their approach revolves around gaining electoral support under the guise of cow and religious issues, without delivering tangible benefits to the public.
Sachin Pilot said that people are tired.
“They have made up their mind against BJP. Now the countdown to 2029 has started. The government is not able to answer the questions in the tone with which Rahul Gandhi has held the government accountable after becoming the leader of the opposition. I.N.D.I.A. alliance and we are fighting the elections together.
There are elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Our government is going to be formed there. Priyanka Gandhi is contesting the Wayanad by-election. There are by-elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. We will win the elections with a good majority,” he said.

Pilot said that the election in Haryana has been held.
“Questions are being raised on it. I do not want to go into that. But people wanted change, for some reason it could not be accomplished in Haryana. There are many reasons for this. Our defeated candidates are also going to the court. They are also going to the Election Commission. That is a process, but it does not mean that people are not tired of BJP. People have made up their mind to stand with the Congress. As far as I.N.D.I.A. alliance is concerned, it was strong before and is strong even today. In seat sharing, we move forward with mutual agreement. Everyone moves forward after talking and discussing. Our aim is to defeat BJP and NDA.”
He announced his visit to Marathwada on Tuesday, stating that the entire Congress leadership will campaign together in areas where elections are being held. Discussing the Rajasthan by-elections, he expressed confidence in their strength across all seven constituencies, declaring, “We will win the elections.”
While acknowledging that every election poses challenges, he noted that this election highlights the public’s growing disillusionment with the government.
Pilot pointed out the achievements in initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission and rural development, but also mentioned the financial crisis impacting governance. He criticised the current administration for internal conflicts, with bureaucrats and leaders pulling in different directions, leaving the public caught in the middle and suffering as a result.
“This is a critical test for the BJP government,” he emphasised, urging them to reflect on their governance and provide details of their accomplishments over the past year.
He called for transparency regarding the MoUs worth Rs14 lakh crore that have reportedly been signed, questioning how many of these agreements will be implemented, as he noted similar promises made by former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
Pilot asserted that if BJP leaders believe they can win based solely on their governance record, they are mistaken. He confidently stated that Congress will emerge victorious in all seven seats.

The incident occurred in the Chilamanthur police station area, police officials reported on Sunday.

Victims: Elderly Woman and Daughter-in-Law

According to Superintendent of Police V Ratna, the victims were part of a family of four—a senior couple, their son, and their daughter-in-law. The two women who were assaulted are the elderly woman and her daughter-in-law. The family members were residing at the mill, where both men worked as security guards.

The four assailants entered the room where the family was staying, first attacking the two men—the elderly man and his son—before assaulting the women. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene. The victims and their family are said to be in a state of shock following the attack.

The police have launched a full-scale investigation to apprehend the culprits and are actively searching for the perpetrators. Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to bring those responsible to justice. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.

</excerpt>

Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress spent approximately ₹585 crore on both the general election and the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim. The party allocated nearly ₹410 crore to media campaigns and advertisements, which made up the bulk of its expenses.

Virtual Campaigning Costs

In addition to traditional media, Congress spent around ₹46 crore on virtual campaigns using social media platforms, mobile apps, and other digital methods to reach voters.

Air Travel for Star Campaigners

A significant portion of the party’s budget, approximately ₹105 crore, was spent on air travel for its star campaigners, including party leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and others. These funds covered extensive travel during the election campaign.

Financial Support to Key Candidates

Congress also allocated ₹11.20 crore as lump sum payments to its key Lok Sabha candidates, including Rahul Gandhi, to help them contest the elections.

Advertising and Publicity Material

During the campaign, the party spent around ₹68.62 crore on printing posters, banners, hoardings, and other promotional materials.

Congress’s Financial Reserves and Receipts

At the time of the election announcement, Congress had ₹170 crore in deposits and received additional gross receipts of ₹539.37 crore, which included ₹13.76 crore in cash deposits.

Tax Disputes and Election Results

The party had raised concerns over a cash crunch after some of its accounts were frozen by the Income Tax department due to previous disputes. However, these accounts were later de-frozen after court intervention. Despite the financial hurdles, Congress won 99 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, positioning itself as the principal opposition party as BJP secured its third consecutive term in power.

Allegations Spark Concerns Over Sacred Prasad

Union Health Minister JP Nadda has called for a comprehensive report on the controversy surrounding the famous Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) laddus in Andhra Pradesh. This directive follows claims by Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) that a lab in Gujarat discovered traces of beef tallow, fish oil, and pig fat in the ghee used for the sacred laddus during the administration of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Political Accusations Heighten Tensions

Key allies of the BJP, including TDP and Jana Sena, have launched scathing attacks on Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRC government, accusing it of desecrating the sanctity of the temple and compromising “Sanatan Dharma.” Naidu accused the former YSRCP government of adulterating the sacred Tirumala Laddu by using animal fat instead of pure ghee, raising alarm among devotees.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Response

In response to Naidu’s allegations, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP dismissed the claims as baseless. Reddy took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Chandrababu Naidu committed a great sin by damaging the sanctity of the divine temple Tirumala and the faith of hundreds of crores of Hindus. Chandrababu’s comments on Tirumala Prasad are very evil. No one born of human birth speaks such words or makes such accusations.”

Lab Tests Confirm Presence of ‘Foreign Fat’

According to a report from the National Dairy Development Board’s Centre of Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food, traces of “foreign fat” were found in the ghee used for the laddus. The lab report, revealed by the TDP, indicated the presence of beef tallow, pig fat, and fish oil. TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy presented these findings during a press conference, stating that the sample was received on July 9, 2024, and the results were dated July 16.

Controversy Continues

The revelation has further escalated the war of words between the TDP and the YSRCP, as both parties continue to trade accusations regarding the adulteration of the sacred prasad. The matter remains under scrutiny as the health minister awaits the detailed report.

This method allows neurosurgeons to maximize tumor removal while preserving neurological function, as the patient can provide immediate feedback.
</excerpt>

In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, performed a complex brain surgery known as an awake craniotomy while the patient watched a film starring Jr NTR. This technique involves keeping the patient conscious during the procedure.

Patient and Procedure

The 55-year-old patient, A. Ananthalakshmi, underwent surgery for a brain tumor located on the left side of her brain. She had been experiencing symptoms such as limb numbness and persistent headaches. The tumor measured 3.3 x 2.7 cm. Opting for the government hospital due to the high costs associated with private healthcare, Ananthalakshmi was treated with an innovative approach to maintain her calm and focus during the operation.

To ease Ananthalakshmi’s anxiety, the medical team played scenes from Jr NTR’s film Adhurs, her favorite movie, throughout the procedure. The surgery, which lasted two and a half hours, was successful, and the doctors expect her to be discharged within five days.

Similar Surgeries

A week prior, a similar procedure was conducted at Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute in Uttar Pradesh, where a 56-year-old patient remained awake and engaged with his mobile phone to minimize nerve damage. Earlier in January, a five-year-old girl underwent awake surgery at AIIMS Delhi to remove a dangerous brain tumor, during which she interacted with doctors and even recognized a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

</excerpt>

A planned destruction drive in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, intended to destroy seized liquor bottles worth over ₹50 lakh, took a chaotic turn when locals seized the opportunity to loot the alcohol. A viral video capturing the frenzy has spread across social media, drawing both amusement and concern over the lack of crowd control during the event.

Crowd Loots Liquor Bottles Despite Police Intervention

The incident unfolded when police, under the instructions of Guntur SP S. Satish Kumar, lined up the confiscated liquor bottles at Nalla Cheruvu dumping yard for a public relations shoot ahead of the planned destruction. These bottles were collected during the recent Assembly Elections. However, once the news spread about the impending destruction, locals rushed to the scene and began grabbing bottles before the police could destroy them.

WATCH THE VIRAL VIDEO:

Despite repeated warnings and even physical intervention from the police, the crowd remained undeterred. The video shows people rushing past police officers, some even enduring baton strikes (lathis) in their efforts to grab bottles of liquor.

Police Struggle to Regain Control

The viral footage depicts officers attempting to stop the looters, but with little success. As some individuals continued to flee with their spoils, others defiantly argued with the officers, refusing to return the bottles. Though some people did eventually place the bottles back, the majority of the looters got away.

Police have now launched an investigation to track down those involved in the looting.

Social Media Response

The viral video garnered widespread attention online, with many people reacting humorously to the chaotic scene. One X user commented, “The last guy literally debated two police officers and convinced them to let him go with the bottle.” Another remarked, “Locals thought they had organised a liquor langar,” while a third user humorously noted, “When life is stranger than fiction.”

Despite the humorous reactions, the event has raised questions about how public destruction drives are managed, particularly when the items being destroyed hold significant value.

Looking Ahead: An Investigation Underway

With the footage gaining millions of views and social media abuzz with jokes, the Guntur police are under pressure to identify the perpetrators. An investigation has been initiated to locate those who successfully looted the bottles and determine whether additional security measures could have been implemented to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

The state has been grappling with severe rainfall, leading to widespread flooding, property damage, and the loss of 45 lives in rain-related incidents. Although waterlogging has eased in some areas, the intense flooding continues to cause significant challenges.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha will assess the flood damage in Vijayawada, following Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s earlier statement that 1.4 lakh single-floor homes have been extensively damaged by the floods. The chief minister has requested central government assistance and informed Governor S Abdul Nazeer about the ongoing flood crisis.

Relief efforts are in full swing, with three lakh food packets, milk, and biscuits being distributed to affected residents. Additionally, five lakh kilograms of vegetables have been sold through 163 stores. Around 20,000 houses have been cleaned using fire engines, and 42 drones are being used for sanitation operations.

Neighboring Telangana has also been severely impacted by the floods. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the central government will provide ₹3,448 crore in immediate assistance to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to mitigate the effects of the floods. The government will also assess crop damage and consider providing seeds, fertilizers, and potential loan waivers for farmers.

Several people are feared trapped under the debris of a house damaged by the landslide.

The district administration declared a holiday for schools on Saturday in response to the heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of Andhra Pradesh, with a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal intensifying into a depression.

A Met Department official stated, “Continuous light to moderate rains would prevail. Heavy to very heavy rains are most likely today over many districts of Andhra Pradesh.” The well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central and adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha had moved west-northwestwards and intensified into a depression by 5:30 am on Saturday.

Students rallied, chanting “we want justice,” and demanded action from the authorities to ensure their safety. The police identified the accused as Vijay, a student of the college. They seized his laptop and found nearly 300 obscene videos, which they believe he sold to other students. There are no details yet on whether Vijay has been arrested.

The incident comes amid national outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. In response to the protests, the Telugu Desam Party stated that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has initiated an inquiry.

“The Chief Minister has ordered an investigation into the concerns raised by students about hidden cameras in the hostel. The District Collector and SP have been instructed to visit the site immediately along with District Minister, Kollu Ravindra,” a party post said.

Nara Lokesh, the Chief Minister’s son, also addressed the situation on X, stating, “I have requested details regarding the protests by female students at Gudlavalleru Engineering College. An inquiry into the hidden camera allegations has been ordered.” He added that strict action would be taken against any culprits and urged for prompt action to prevent such incidents in colleges.

The invitation urged guests to “vote” by attending the wedding, metaphorically listing the venue as their “polling station” and emphasizing the importance of participating in democracy. This invitation was not just a call to celebrate their union but also a reminder of civic duty during election season.
</excerpt>

A couple from Andhra Pradesh has taken creativity to a new level with their wedding invitation, making it an unforgettable keepsake for their guests. Reflecting the bride’s profession as a teacher, the card is cleverly designed as an exam question paper, complete with multiple-choice questions, true-or-false statements, and single-answer questions. This unique approach comes from Pratyusha, a teacher from Marteeru village in Penumantra Mandal, West Godavari district, who wanted her profession to be a central theme in the wedding invitation.

Titled “Narkedamilli’s Wedding Invitation,” the card turns the usual wedding details into an engaging quiz for guests to solve. One of the questions prompts guests to “Identify the person in the picture,” with the correct answer being “Groom Phaneendra.” Another asks them to select the correct spelling of the bride’s name, offering “Pratusha” and “Pratyusha” as options. The invite covers all the essential wedding details, including the date, venue, time, and even the person performing the kanyadaan. To add a heartwarming touch, the card ends by wishing the couple “100 years of happiness” together.

This is just one example of how couples are increasingly personalizing their wedding invites to reflect their interests and personalities. In the past, another wedding invitation caught attention online for being styled like an iPhone screen, complete with app icons and WhatsApp conversations. Such creative efforts are becoming a trend, with couples seeking to make their wedding invitations memorable for their guests.

Another noteworthy example came from Pune, where a couple designed their wedding invite to resemble an election notice. The invitation urged guests to “vote” by attending the wedding, metaphorically listing the venue as their “polling station” and emphasizing the importance of participating in democracy. This invitation was not just a call to celebrate their union but also a reminder of civic duty during election season.

These examples highlight a growing trend where wedding invitations are no longer just formal notices but are becoming a fun and personalized expression of the couple’s creativity and values.

The blaze erupted around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Escientia Advanced Sciences Pvt Ltd, situated in the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ), as reported by Anakapalli District Collector Vijaya Krishnan.

“Death toll as of now is 15 and is likely to go up. Nearly 40 people have been injured. Rescue operations underway,” District Superintendent of Police M. Deepika told Reuters.

Initial reports suggested that a reactor explosion might have caused the fire, but Krishnan clarified that the fire was not due to a reactor blast. Officials now believe the fire was related to an electrical issue. The injured have been taken to various hospitals in Anakapalli and Atchutapuram for treatment.

“The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals … an inquiry has been initiated to identify the exact reason that led to the blast,” Krishnan’s office told Reuters.

Approximately 40 people were taken to different hospitals in Anakapalli and Atchutapuram, though their conditions have not been disclosed.

The collector also mentioned that 13 individuals trapped in the facility were rescued.

Following closely is Uttar Pradesh, which accounts for 418 of the total fraudulent agents listed. These figures, which are current up to June 2024, were compiled based on complaints from affected migrants or their families. These complaints have spurred investigations by state police forces, Indian Missions, and Foreign Situation Centres.
</excerpt>

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently unveiled alarming statistics, highlighting the presence of 3,042 fraudulent agents who have been duping individuals with false promises of overseas employment. These agents have been listed on the ‘eMigrate’ portal, a resource designed to protect potential migrants from scams. While Punjab and Gujarat are often recognized for their large numbers of youth aspiring to work abroad, a new report reveals that Andhra Pradesh has outpaced them, becoming the state with the highest concentration of fraudulent agents.

Andhra Pradesh Leads in Number of Fake Agents

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the state with the most significant number of fraudulent agents, with 498 names identified on the eMigrate portal.

Growing Concern Across States

The MEA’s report also sheds light on the widespread nature of this issue, with other states like Tamil Nadu (372), Maharashtra (337), and Delhi (299) also reporting a high number of fraudulent agents. Surprisingly, traditional migration hubs like Punjab and Gujarat reported fewer fake agents, with 209 and 59 respectively.

Efforts to Curb the Menace

In a bid to prevent further exploitation, the MEA regularly updates the list of fraudulent agents on the eMigrate portal. As of June 2024, the names of 3,042 fake agents have been made public. Additionally, the ministry provides several resources for those seeking employment or education abroad, including the MADAD, CPGAMS, and eMigrate portals. A dedicated helpline is also available for migrants to register complaints.

State-Wise Breakdown of Fake Agents (Till June 2024)

Andhra Pradesh: 498

The deceased include two girls and one boy. The hostel houses 86 children, and 27 of them fell ill after consuming poisoned biryani. Five critically ill children were transferred to Visakhapatnam KGH on Monday morning. The affected children, ranging from first to fifth grade, also study at a local school.

The incident unfolded after the children began vomiting following their meal. The hostel staff promptly informed the parents, who arrived to take their children home. Despite these efforts, two girls, Shadda and Bhavani from Chintapalli Mandal, and a boy, Joshua from Koyyur Mandal, passed away while being transported to Narsipatnam Area Hospital. Seven others were taken to the hospital in critical condition, with five later moved to Visakhapatnam. Sixteen children are currently receiving treatment at government hospitals in Chintapalli, Paderu, and Koyyur.

Narsipatnam RDO HV Jayaram is on-site, overseeing the situation.

YSRCP Chief and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy expressed profound sorrow and shock over the incident. Reddy criticized the government’s negligence, stating that the tragedy underscores significant flaws in monitoring systems. He urged the government to focus on systemic improvements and preventive measures rather than engaging in political blame and propaganda.
