</excerpt>

At least 36 Amarnath pilgrims were injured on Saturday morning when a bus, which was part of a convoy going to the sacred Amarnath shrine, ran into four parked buses in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district in the Chanderkote area.

The crash happened as the convoy had stopped at a planned breakfast site in Chanderkote. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban Kulbir Singh said that the bus driver did not manage to stop on time, leading to a chain collision that injured dozens.

“The convoy had stopped for breakfast at Chanderkote. Pilgrims suffered minor injuries, majority of them willing to continue their pilgrimage after first aid,” SSP Singh informed. He added further, “Three to four of the injured may not be able to proceed further due to the nature of their injuries.”

Brake Failure Caused Amarnath Bus Crash

A top official confirmed the main reason for the accident as a brake failure. According to reports, the driver lost control, and the bus crashed into three other parked buses belonging to the same convoy.

“Because of a brake failure, four vehicles ran into each other. Mostly minor injuries, and all the injured yatris are being discharged after undergoing first aid,” said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Ilyas Khan.

Authorities Act Promptly

DC Ilyas Khan went to the hospital to assess the situation and inquired about the well-being of the injured pilgrims. He ensured that the district administration made prompt arrangements so that the pilgrimage could proceed without any hindrance.

“We have made arrangements for substitute buses for the yatris. The ones discharged from the hospital will also be provided for and will proceed further,” Khan said.

Pilgrimage Proceeds Despite Setback

In spite of the pre-dawn accident, most of the injured pilgrims decided to continue their holy pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine once they were treated at hospitals. The local administration made arrangements for support as required to avoid disruption to the pilgrimage.

The Amarnath Yatra, held every year, draws thousands of pilgrims from all over the nation. Authorities are on high alert to regulate the movement of vehicles and avoid repeating such accidents during the yatra time.

</excerpt>

People in South Kashmir greeted the first group of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims with open arms on Wednesday, just weeks after a terror attack in Pahalgam left 26 people dead, many of them tourists, due to religious profiling. The 45-day-long pilgrimage is set to begin on July 3.

Locals Show Hospitality at Qazigund Tunnel

As the pilgrims traveled toward the sacred Amarnath shrine, they were warmly welcomed at the Navyug Tunnel in Qazigund. Local residents gathered at the tunnel early in the morning to receive them with flowers, smiles, and cheers.

A resident from South Kashmir told ANI, “We are happy that devotees are visiting Kashmir for the first time after the Pahalgam attack. The youth here is happy. We are glad that we got this opportunity to welcome them again.”

Another local from Dudu added, “We are happy that devotees are coming here after the Pahalgam attack. We are here at the (Navyug) tunnel to welcome them.”

A third resident also emphasized, “The devotees are coming here from all over the country. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are here to welcome them… Kashmir is known for its hospitality…”

Heightened Security Measures in Place

Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert. Authorities have stepped up security along National Highway 44 (NH-44) and surrounding areas.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims from Jammu. He praised the preparation and security measures, saying, “Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board has made excellent facilities for the Yatra. Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces have also maintained tight security. Devotees from all over the country are here. The enthusiasm is very high. The devotees of Bholenath have neglected all the terror attacks and have reached in huge numbers. I am hopeful that this year’s Yatra would be even better than the previous ones.”

Massive Security Deployment

After the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, security forces have ramped up their presence across the Jammu region. Over 50,000 personnel, including the CRPF, Army, and Police, are guarding the Yatra routes. The area is also being monitored using CCTV cameras, drones, jammers, and facial recognition systems.

Emergency Services Ready

In addition, authorities have arranged medical teams, air ambulances, and emergency evacuation plans to ensure the safety and well-being of the pilgrims throughout the holy journey.

The action follows April’s deadly Pahalgam attack and May’s Operation Sindoor that targeted terror hubs in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
</excerpt>

Only a week prior to the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra, an encounter erupted between terrorists and security personnel in the Kuru area of Basantgarh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday.

The continuing gun battle, code-named Operation Bihali, was initiated based on precise intelligence inputs, officials added. The combined operation includes troops of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Giving an update on the events, White Knight Corps of the Army reported on X, “Op BIHALI. On the basis of specific intel, #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice conducted a joint operation in the Bihali region of #Basantgarh. Contact has been made with #terrorists. The #operation is ongoing.”

Op BIHALI
Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in the Bihali area of #Basantgarh.

Contact has been established with #terrorists. The #operation is currently in progress.@adgpi@NorthernComd_IA pic.twitter.com/bEbi8O0bu1

The operation is going on in a region from which the mission derives its name: ‘Bihali’.

The meeting is in the backdrop of increased security measures for the Amarnath Yatra, which will begin on July 3 and run until August 9. Thousands of pilgrims are likely to take up the pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave throughout this time.

This new move also comes on the heels of Operation Sindoor, which was executed on May 7 and targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Punjab province. That cross-border exercise led to the demolition of nine terror centers and the killing of more than 100 terrorists.

Further, the present encounter in Udhampur is close to two months after the horrific Pahalgam terror attack in April when 26 tourists lost their lives.

The ban follows the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Exceptions apply for medical, disaster, and security operations.
</excerpt>

A new directive has declared the Amarnath Yatra 2025 routes as a ‘No Flying Zone’, strengthening security after the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The Jammu and Kashmir government announced that starting July 1 until August 10, all aerial platforms, including drones and balloons, are strictly banned along the pilgrimage routes.

This decision follows the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, prompting heightened measures to protect pilgrims.

To ensure pilgrim safety, the J&K Government declares #Pahalgam and #Baltal routes of the Amarnath Yatra as “No Flying Zones” from July 1, 2025. Drones, paragliders, and aerial activities are banned, except for security and emergency services. Strict compliance is urged.@diprjk… pic.twitter.com/1EuJ4Cb1pK

Amarnath Yatra Flight Ban

The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, following orders from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, imposed this comprehensive and immediate ban. It blocks all aviation platforms and devices, including drones, UAVs, and balloons, along both Pahalgam and Baltal axes. However, the government allowed specific exceptions for medical evacuations, disaster management, essential relief efforts, and security force surveillance.

Authorities will soon issue a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) outlining these exceptions. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs advised full aerial restrictions to maintain strict vigilance during the sensitive and high-risk pilgrimage.

All stakeholders thoroughly assessed the security situation and unanimously agreed to add additional logistical support and enforce stronger measures for this year’s yatra.

Pilgrimage Under Heavy Security

The annual Amarnath Yatra will start on July 3, attracting thousands of pilgrims from across the country. Authorities have stepped up security following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, ensuring no disruptions occur during the pilgrimage. Security personnel have already strengthened patrols and installed advanced surveillance systems across the designated routes.

Federal and state agencies now actively coordinate their efforts to maintain strict safety protocols. Officials have enforced a ban on drones and balloons to prevent aerial threats and eliminate any risks of unauthorised surveillance or attacks. The administration has left no stone unturned, implementing robust security layers, deploying additional forces, and closely monitoring intelligence inputs to avoid any untoward incidents.

Officials have also improved logistical support, ensuring that all the emergency services remain ready throughout the pilgrimage. The government aims to guarantee that the yatra proceeds peacefully, reflecting its strong commitment to every pilgrim’s safety and well-being.

Supreme Court Turns Down PIL for Amarnath Security, Scolds Petitioner for Misuse of PILs

<excerpt>The SC slams petitioner for misusing PILs, rejecting a plea for Amarnath security measures after the Pahalgam attack.
</excerpt>

The Supreme Court PIL rejection regarding tourist security has sparked fierce rebukes from the bench. The apex court on Monday turned down a petition moved in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead. The court indicted the petitioner of bringing Public Interest Litigations (PILs) as publicity stunts and cautioned against misuse of judicial process.

The same petitioner had previously asked for a judicial investigation into the attack. The bench rejected that plea as well, stating that it could demoralise security personnel. In this case, the court turned more stern, reprimanding the advocate for being “insensible” and irresponsible.

Court Blasts “Publicity” Motive

The bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh did not shy away from speaking their minds. “Who is asking you to file these PILs? Do you have responsibility?” the bench questioned advocate Vishal Tiwari.

The judges doubted his motive and called him lacking an understanding of sensibility of courts. They explained categorically, “The petitioner is indulging in one or the other presumed PILs. basically with an intent to draw publicity. Rejected.”

Petition Linked to Pahalgam Attack

The petitioner had referred to the Pahalgam attack, describing it as the first direct attack on tourists in Kashmir. He said the plea was merely concerned with enhancing security in hill regions and not driven by political intentions. But the court was not willing to accept that rationale. The apex court rejected it without serving any notice to the government.

Call for Amarnath Yatra Security Rejected

The plea also requested specific security arrangements for the July 3-August 9 Amarnath Yatra. The petitioner emphasized that several North Indian states survive on tourism. He cautioned that such attacks would seriously damage the local economy.

He also contended that Pahalgam, being a sensitive area, had no armed security despite the huge tourist influx. “Armed security should be there in out-of-way sightseeing spots,” he urged. The court was not convinced.

Judiciary Pushes Back Against PIL Overuse

The court’s observation reflects an emerging judicial anxiety: PILs being misused. The mechanism, designed to act for the public, is being inundated with self-seeking requests.
By turning down both requests back-to-back, the court made a larger point.

It will not entertain PILs that jeopardize security force morale or abuse the judicial forum for visibility.

Will Supreme Court Silence Suppress Genuine Concerns?

The larger question now hangs in the balance: Does this response discourage legitimate public concern regarding safety in conflict areas?

Tourism in Kashmir is still delicate. Amarnath Yatra attracts lakhs of pilgrims every year. Security in such areas is a valid concern. While the court aims at frivolous PILs, it also needs to make sure it doesn’t discourage genuine safety appeals in the future.

Why Amarnath Yatra is Considered One of the Most Powerful Treks in the World

<excerpt>Amarnath Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage that combines physical endurance with deep spirituality. Pilgrims brave harsh conditions to reach the Amarnath Cave, home to the ice Shiva Linga, a symbol of Lord Shiva, during the brief annual pilgrimage.
</excerpt>

The Amarnath Yatra is not just a hike, but a holy pilgrimage that combines physical stamina with deep spiritual meaning, one of the most demanding and spiritually rewarding pilgrimages in the world. At an elevation of over 12,700 feet in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir, the Amarnath Cave trek challenges both faith and human endurance.

The Amarnath Yatra exposes pilgrims to rough terrain, cold winds, inclement weather, and high-altitude walks. But the real beauty of the Amarnath Yatra is religious. Pilgrims undertake this challenging trekking to see the naturally formed ice Shiva Linga, a rare and mystical formation said to be a sign of Lord Shiva. Based on myth, the cave is where Lord Shiva supposedly taught Goddess Parvati the secret of immortality, making it an incredibly holy place.

The journey is rendered even more spiritual by the unshakeable faith that drives it. Whether old or young, rich or poor, thousands of devotees undertake the arduous journey defying the harsh weather conditions with the cacophony of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ echoing in the mountains. The trip is now a test for both body and spirit, combining the two in pursuit of the divine.

To its religious importance is added the fact that the cave is open only throughout the Shravan month (July-August) for a couple of weeks in a year under very tight security and environmental controls. This short-term access contributes to the pilgrimage’s spiritual intensity, attracting tourists from around the globe.

Ultimately, the Amarnath Yatra is more of a spiritual journey than a physical one that elevates, humbles, and purifies those who undertake the journey. It is this unique combination of devotion, determination, and belief that makes it one of the most powerful treks on the planet.

Pick a token slip from prescribed places like Vaishnavi Dham, Panchayat Bhawan, or Mahajan Hall. These slips are given three days before your desired yatra date.
Return on the subsequent day to Saraswati Dham for medical examination and registration.

On the same day, visit the RFID card center in Jammu to get your card and finish the process.

</excerpt>

Kashmir: Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, has voiced both anticipation and concern regarding the upcoming budget, particularly its provisions for Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah highlighted pressing issues such as high unemployment rates in the region and emphasized the need for concrete measures aimed at job creation. “We are eager to see if the budget addresses the needs of Jammu and Kashmir. With unemployment being a major issue, we hope the budget will include specific measures for employment generation. Should these concerns remain unaddressed, our two Members of Parliament will ensure the matter is raised in Parliament,” Abdullah stated.

Criticism of Kanwar Yatra Restrictions and UP Government’s Intentions

Abdullah also criticized the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent order concerning the Kanwar Yatra, suggesting it marginalizes the Muslim community. “The fast-tracked order seems to be aimed at excluding Muslims. If the UP government wants to keep Muslims at a distance, it’s important to remember that the successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir relies heavily on Muslim support,” Abdullah remarked, emphasizing the critical role of the Muslim community in facilitating this annual pilgrimage.

Advocacy for Equal Political Participation

On the issue of political participation, Abdullah called for greater equality, particularly regarding the bans imposed on political parties. He argued that if the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is permitted to operate freely, then similar restrictions on other political parties should be lifted. “If the RSS is allowed to function as a political entity, then restrictions on other political parties should also be removed. Government employees should be allowed to join political parties and participate in political activities,” Abdullah asserted, advocating for a fair and level playing field in the political domain.

</excerpt>

Amidst the ongoing Amarnath yatra, the Ministry of Health & Welfare has been giving support to directorate of health services Kashmir, by enhancing staff, needed for constituting medical camps and building the capacity of manpower, for handling high-altitude emergencies.

This act is as per apex court’s directives, related to medical facilities given during the yatra.

This included the establishment of medical facilities at every 2 Km, en-route, deploying doctors from different states and constituting mortuary facilities etc.

Meanwhile, from the last two years, the EMR (Emergency Medical Relief) division has been trying to streamline the healthcare process for Amarnath yatra.

For example, at 2023, Additional DDG and Director of EMR did an on-site assessment of medical facilities constituted for the yatra. This assessment was conducted to ensure, that these facilities meet the necessary standards and can potentially deal with the health of devotees.

After 2023 assessment, streamlining of medical care arrangements and augmentation of coordination between medical staff from different states and Directorate of Health Services (DHS) was given priority.

In addition, it was important to give states the direct experience of cultural sensitivities and challenges in Kashmir.

In order to fulfill these goals, the first national level review meeting for the amarnath yatra was constituted in Sher-e-Kashmir international convention centre at Srinagar. This meeting was jointly organized by Directorate General of Health Services (DteGHS) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

This meeting witnessed the representation from 12 States or UTs, AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, Central government institutions etc.

In this comprehensive meeting, the object was to discuss about the challenges, which persisted during the amarnath yatra and how medical care can be improved.

Moreover, the deployment of healthcare workers is usually conducted by DteGHS, MoHFW by inviting nominations from 12 states or UTs and 16 institutions. These workers are usually deployed in three shifts or batches.

This year at 2024, taking suggestions of MoHFW into account, DHS Kashmir with ONGC CSR support has constituted semi-permanent structures Baltal and Chandanwari for building base hospitals, which contains accommodation facilities for staff deployed for the yatra.

Emergency Situation

In order to deal better with emergency situation, understanding trends of diseases and dealing with health-related issues properly, a web-enabled data collection module of Amarnath yatra has been established. This module was made via National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) – Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.

These IDSP/IHIP portals will be used for the current year data and for data comparison, which ultimately, will lead to an improvement of health facilities.

Currently, a training course on preparing healthcare workers for high-altitude medicines is being manufactured by EMR division along with DHS Kashmir team and several experts.

These training modules will then give e-certificates and will makes these modules mandatory for staff for their better understanding and preparedness.

The Amarnath Yatra, a cherished pilgrimage for Hindu devotees, annually attracts hundreds of thousands from across the globe. As of now, over 200,000 pilgrims from various states in India have visited the sacred site this year. Last year, approximately 450,000 devotees paid their respects to Baba Barfani.

This sacred journey offers two traditional routes: the Nunwan-Pahalgam route in the South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, which spans 48 kilometers, and the shorter Baltal route in the Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, measuring 14 kilometers. Both Pahalgam and Sonmarg, the starting points of these routes, are renowned tourist destinations, attracting both local and international visitors every year.

Heather and Hudson Hathway’s participation in the yatra underscores the event’s growing global appeal. “Visiting the Amarnath cave has been a dream come true for us. We’ve waited for this opportunity for many years,” said Heather Hathway. She also praised the hospitality of the Indian people, noting, “Everyone here has been amazingly sober, sweet, and kind.”

The Amarnath Yatra, an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine, attracts millions of devotees who come to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani. The shrine, located at an altitude of 3,888 meters, houses an ice stalagmite formation believed to be a representation of Lord Shiva.

The pilgrimage lasts for 52 days, typically starting in late June and concluding in August. This year, the yatra began on June 29 and will end on August 19, 2024. The pilgrimage is known for its challenging terrain, with pilgrims trekking through mountainous paths to reach the cave. Despite the difficulties, the journey is considered spiritually rewarding, with devotees believing that a visit to the cave cleanses one’s sins and leads to salvation.

Security measures for the yatra are stringent, given the volatile situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian government and security forces take extensive precautions to ensure the safety of pilgrims, including deploying a large number of troops, setting up checkpoints, and providing medical facilities along the routes.

In addition to the traditional trekking routes, helicopter services are available for pilgrims who prefer a quicker and less strenuous journey. These services operate from both Pahalgam and Baltal, providing a scenic aerial view of the region.

The Amarnath Yatra also plays a significant role in the local economy, with numerous businesses and vendors relying on the influx of pilgrims for their livelihood. The event boosts tourism and brings in revenue for the hospitality industry in the region.

Heather and Hudson Hathway’s participation highlights the inclusivity and universal appeal of the yatra. Their experience underscores the message of unity and devotion that the pilgrimage represents, showing that spiritual journeys transcend national and cultural boundaries.

Most of the pilgrims are reaching the base camp by traveling in vehicles from various routes, including Pahalgam. Many pilgrims are reaching Srinagar by plane. However, this year also, some pilgrims, devotees of Lord Shiva, have come to the pilgrimage in a unique way.

A pilgrim named Datta Suryawanshi, hailing from Maharashtra, has started his cycle journey to reach the holy cave, and on Monday, July 1, he reached Srinagar. Waving the Tricolor on a bicycle at Avantipora on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, Datta told ITV Network Before this yatra, I also performed the Kedarnath yatra by cycle, and I get immense joy when I do yatra by cycle.

Datta told us that I travel 40 km a day, and since I left Maharashtra today, it has been 30 days. I am working in a hotel in Maharashtra, and I have a wife and a child at home. “After taking the blessings of Lord Shiva, I will return to my home in Maharashtra,” he added.

If a person desires something, then God also helps him in it, and the same thing happened to me,” quipped Datta Suryawanshi. “I made up my mind, and God supported me, and only due to his grace was it possible to reach Srinagar on a bicycle,” he added.

The distance between Maharashtra and Srinagar is around 2000 kilometers. The pilgrims approach the Himalayan cave shrine either from the traditional south Kashmir Pahalgam route, which involves an uphill trek of 43 kilometers from the Pahalgam base camp, or from the north Kashmir Baltal base camp, which involves a 13-kilometer uphill trek.

Anand Singh, hailing from Jaipur, Rajasthan, lost both his legs in an accident in 2002. Despite this life-altering event, Singh’s unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva has driven him to embark on his 12th pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath Yatra cave shrine, perched at 3,880 meters.

Singh’s journey to this sacred site began in 2010. He missed the yatra in 2013 due to the devastating floods in Kedarnath and also during the two years it was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Each year, he endures the arduous journey to pay his respects at Baba’s darbar, demonstrating remarkable determination and faith.

A double amputee, Singh initially relied solely on his hands to drag himself using a cutout from a truck tyre. “For the first four or five years, I dragged myself using my hands but now it has become difficult for me. I travel in a palki (palanquin),” he shared.

His bond with Lord Shiva is profound and special, deepening with each pilgrimage. “This bond is getting stronger every year. That’s why I come here,” Singh said. Despite his physical challenges, he does not see himself as underprivileged. “It does not matter what people say about me. While some view my endeavour positively, some others criticise me. Not all people are the same,” he added.

Singh has pledged to continue his annual visits to the holy cave shrine as long as he is physically able.

The Amarnath Yatra, a 52-day pilgrimage to the cave shrine in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, South Kashmir Himalayas, began on Saturday. This sacred site houses a natural ice stalagmite resembling a lingam, discovered by a Muslim shepherd over 150 years ago. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 19, drawing thousands of devotees each year in a display of faith and endurance.

Anand Singh’s story is a testament to human spirit and devotion, reminding us that physical limitations cannot hinder the pursuit of spiritual fulfillment.

In addition, the yatris should also possess health certificate or if they don’t have the certificate, they can get their check-up done during the registration and can get the health certificate.

Furthermore, the daily quota of pilgrims will also be published by Sri Amarnath Shrine board. The official has recently announced, they are aiming to complete around 2,000 registrations. But those who have already registered online, do not have to visit the centre.

Also, the help desks have also been established in the waiting area, which consists of six token centres, water filter and a dining hall. These facilities have been established to ensure smooth process of registration.

Coming to the security front, Udhampur Deputy commissioner Saloni Rai said, that security arrangements are being made properly. As a part of security measure, additional deployment has been established along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

</excerpt>

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to J&K and the approaching Amarnath Yatra, central agencies, security forces, and local administration are intensifying security measures in response to increased threats from terror groups and intelligence reports suggesting possible attacks in the Union Territory. These precautions are also critical considering the likely Assembly elections post-Amarnath Yatra.

A security review meeting, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is set for Sunday, with additional forces expected to be deployed for the upcoming events in J&K.

Earlier this month, forces were dispatched from Ranikhet, Guwahati, Patna, and Lucknow to Jammu and Kashmir for the Amarnath Yatra. Despite the presence of central police forces, recent attacks have prompted senior officials to call for more reinforcements.

Sources indicate that additional bulletproof vehicles will be provided for force movements in Jammu. The CRPF, which assists local police in J&K, may also utilize specialized Anti-Terror Quick Action teams in the region.

A senior official overseeing the operations told News18 that threat messages from various terror groups have doubled on social media. Central intelligence agencies have assigned a senior-level official to J&K to enhance input generation.

“We are seeing almost double the number of inputs since the June 9 Reasi attack in which nine civilians were killed in a bus. Forces are coordinating with intelligence agencies to act on inputs suggesting hideouts of terrorists,” said a senior government official.

A CRPF official stationed in J&K added that multiple threat messages are circulating, including potential camp attacks, fidayeen (suicide) attacks, ambushes, and civilian killings. “We are tracking these threats to know the authenticity so that corrective measures can be taken before any incident,” the official said.

On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed J&K’s security in a meeting with senior officers of the MHA. He also directed a security review meeting on June 16 in North Block, focusing on preparations for the Amarnath Yatra. The meeting will include the L-G of Jammu & Kashmir, NSA, Union Home Secretary, senior Army and police officers, J&K administration, and MHA officials.

In the past 72 hours, J&K has witnessed three terror attacks. On Tuesday evening, terrorists attacked a village near the international border, injuring a civilian. During a subsequent search operation, one terrorist was killed while efforts continue to apprehend another believed to have infiltrated from across the border.

Previously, in one of the significant incidents since the abrogation of Article 370, terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to Katra in Reasi on Sunday. The bus fell into a deep gorge during the attack, resulting in nine fatalities and injuring 41 others.

With a focus on disaster management and rescue operations, preparations are underway to navigate the challenging terrain and safeguard pilgrims seeking the blessings of Baba Barfani.

The Mountaineering Rescue Team of Jammu and Kashmir is at the forefront of these preparations, conducting rigorous training activities in the Nad area of Samba. Comprising 1300 trained soldiers, the team is equipped to handle emergencies along the pilgrimage route, drawing on their expertise honed through years of specialized training and past life-saving missions.

As anticipation builds for the Yatra, scheduled to commence at the end of June and span over two months, security forces from various units are undergoing specialized training in hilly areas to enhance their disaster management skills. Notably, hundreds of soldiers have already completed their training, with additional batches currently undergoing instruction.

The training regimen covers a wide range of essential skills tailored to the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir, including rescue operations in the event of landslides, floods, fires, and road accidents. With adverse weather conditions posing temporary challenges, security forces remain vigilant, ready to respond to emergencies and ensure the safety of pilgrims.

A fresh batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left from the Pantha Chowk base camp to reach the holy Amarnath Cave, on Sunday morning. Yatra which was halted at Chanderkote base camp in Ramban, has resumed.
The pilgrims who will reach the holy site via Baltal and Pahalgam routes also raised ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ slogans.
“We stayed here, now we are going to Baltal, from there we will climb for Amarnath. There is a proper arrangement of food and shelter here. We are in a group of 6 people and we all are very happy. We will pray that the home and family remain happy and the journey goes smoothly,” a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur.
“We will come here next year also there is very good support from the locals and everyone should visit here happily and fearlessly,” another pilgrim said.
The 62-day-long Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 1 will culminate on August 31, 2023.

“People from all over the world are coming to our pilgrimages. I came to know about two such American friends who came from California for Amarnath Yatra.

“They heard about the experiences of Swami Vivekananda related to Amarnath Yatra. They got so inspired that they themselves went on Amarnath Yatra. They consider it a blessing of Lord Shiva,” said PM Modi.

Speaking about the global appeal of Indian pilgrimages, the PM Narendra Modi states that, “This is a speciality of India, that it accepts everyone and gives something or the other to everyone.”

Earlier, during their pilgrimage, one of the US nationals stated that “Swami Vivekananda came to Amarnath, he had a very important experience. I have known of this story for 40 years. It seemed impossible and was a dream to come here. But by Bholenath’s grace, everything came together and here we are. We can’t explain how we feel.”

According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Srinagar North Range CRPF, the CRPF stationed along the Amarnath Yatra route in Srinagar was critical in guaranteeing the safety and assistance of pilgrims in Srinagar.

“The CRPF plays a crucial role in providing safe passage and assistance to the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra in Srinagar. The CRPF personnel are deployed along the Yatra route and in Srinagar to ensure the security and well-being of the pilgrims,” said the official.

According to the DIG, the CRPF regularly monitors for threats, maintains peace, and ensures pilgrims can travel without incident during the yatra.

“The CRPF conducts regular security checks, maintains law and order, and facilitates the smooth movement of pilgrims during the yatra,” he said.

According to the official, CRPF soldiers collaborate closely with local authorities, notably the Jammu and Kashmir Police, to establish a safe atmosphere for pilgrims and address any potential security risks.

In partnership with other authorities, the CRPF provides numerous aid services to pilgrims. He went on to say that these services include medical camps, transportation, communication networks, and emergency response teams.

</excerpt>

On Tuesday morning, a new group of pilgrims set out from Srinagar Base Camp for the twin routes of Baltal and Pahalgam on their way to the Amarnath cave shrine.

The eager pilgrims set out from Srinagar’s Pantha Chowk Yatra Base Camp in Jammu and Kashmir. They chanted ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ before departing for the Yatra.

While being guided by police and security personnel, the District administration is providing all facilities at the Base camp. According to Durgesh Shukla, a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur area, the administration has supplied them with all necessary facilities.

“I had left for Valley on July 7. The next day, I reached Jammu. Thereafter, I stayed at Ramban. We stayed at Hanuman Mandir for next two days after a road had caved in on a stretch in the Ramban District along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Anyhow, I reached here in Srinagar after covering a distance through rail tracks on foot,” he explained.

“The army Jawans are providing every kind of support to the pilgrims,” he added. While 500 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were detoured at Lakhanpur in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua area due to inclement weather.

They said that the district administration refused to allow them to travel to the Jammu base camp. Officials stated they were housed in lodgment centers set up within the government Degree College Kathua.

Meanwhile, the Ramban District administration has organized buses for stranded pilgrims following the suspension of the Srinagar Jammu National Highway due to heavy rains in the Union Territory during the last several days.
