</excerpt>

In a shocking 34-minute propaganda video called “Inciting the Believers,” the new leader of Al-Qaeda, Sa’ad bin Atef al-Awlaki, has issued a call to assassinate key American leaders, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and billionaire business magnate Elon Musk. The call for assassination, released by AQAP’s media arm, is a disturbing heightening of anti-American rhetoric by the group amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza crisis.

“Do not ask anyone to kill infidel Americans,” al-Awlaki stated in the video, contradictorily circulated far and wide across jihadist Telegram channels. He called upon Muslim citizens in the United States to “take revenge” against America for supporting Israel, naming prominent political and business figures specifically targeted.

Alongside Trump and Vance, the AQAP chief also nominated Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. This called for his followers to attack these individuals and their families, “Go after them and their families and all those who have any ties or are close to the politicians of the White House.”

BREAKING: Al-Qaeda leader, Sa’ad Bin Atef Al-Awlaki, has just now called for American Muslims to wage Jihad on US soil and to assassinate President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Elon musk, others. pic.twitter.com/1QQzKOWVd9

The video also encouraged antisemitic violence and glorified previous attempts to kill Trump. “Go after the scum of the earth and its greatest criminals,” al-Awlaki declared. “These are Trump and his vice president, his advisor, and his supporters in terms of finance, administration, and technology.”

No Red Lines After Gaza, Warns AQAP Leader

Al-Awlaki cautioned that there are “no red lines” after what he termed as atrocities in Gaza. “Do not leave a single safe location for Jews, just as they have not left any homes, shelters, or refuge for the Palestinians,” he advised. “Even hospitals are being bombed over the heads of the sick and wounded, and the heads of the women, children, and elderly. Take revenge.”

The US State Department has already put a $6 million reward on the head of al-Awlaki, who took over the reins of AQAP in March 2024. The US government still designates AQAP as a foreign terrorist organization.

The conversation also touched on Pakistan’s FATF grey list history and its role in harboring extremists.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Vice President Sherry Rehman admitted that Islamabad’s past is linked to terrorism but avoided direct answers regarding al-Qaeda-linked Brigade 313. In an interview with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim, Rehman responded to questions about Pakistan’s history of harboring extremist elements.

“You keep on talking about the past because it was,” she said. “We are fighting terrorism. Pakistan is a changed country now.”

Brigade 313: Pakistan’s Al-Qaeda Connection

Hakim cited Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC) reports, stating that Brigade 313 is a Pakistan-based terror outfit tied to al-Qaeda. The group reportedly includes members from the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami.

“Brigade 313 is al-Qaeda in Pakistan,” Hakim said, describing it as a hub for terrorism focused on attacks in Kashmir.

Hakim pressed Rehman on whether Pakistan should be held accountable for terror attacks in India, particularly those linked to Brigade 313. Rehman dismissed the question, stating, “Am I going to war every time there is an attack in India?” She further added, “A hundred insurgencies are running in India. Are we responsible for what goes on there?”

Pakistan’s FATF Grey List History

The conversation also touched on Pakistan’s inclusion on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list until 2022. Hakim questioned whether individuals like Sajid Mir, a key plotter of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, played a role in delaying Pakistan’s removal from the list.

‘Pakistan is fighting very hard to clean its terrorist record’

Vice President of the Pakistan People’s Party Senator Sherry Rehman tells @SkyYaldaHakim ‘Pakistan is a changed country’, even though they were taken off the grey list in 2022https://t.co/1GOylJEIzn pic.twitter.com/Y7ei3Wbo9h

— Sky News (@SkyNews) June 9, 2025

Rehman responded, “You’re citing a long history of engaging with terrorism one way or the other, either fighting it or otherwise.”

What Is Brigade 313?

Brigade 313 was formed in the early 2000s, reportedly named after the 313 companions of Prophet Muhammad who fought in the Battle of Badr. The group was led by Ilyas Kashmiri, a former Pakistani army-trained fighter who became one of al-Qaeda’s top commanders before he died in a 2011 US drone strike.

The brigade is a hybrid coalition, drawing terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI), and Jaish-e-Mohammed. It operated under al-Qaeda’s umbrella and frequently collaborated with Pakistan’s Taliban factions.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif admitted that the country had supported terror groups for decades. He stated, “We have been doing this dirty work for the United States for about three decades, and the West, including Britain.”

He urged attacks on regional leaders amid Gaza conflict, challenging rival Houthi influence.
</excerpt>

The leader of al-Qaeda’s Yemen branch has issued a stark warning against US President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk, condemning America’s backing of Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza. In a half-hour video released online by supporters of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) on Saturday, Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki declared that “there are no red lines” following the devastation faced by Palestinians in Gaza.

Al-Awlaki demanded “reciprocity” and incited lone-wolf attacks against Egyptian, Jordanian, and Gulf Arab leaders aligned with Israel. The video showcased pictures of Trump, Musk, US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Musk’s business organizations, such as Tesla.

AQAP, which was created in 2009 through the unification of al-Qaeda’s Yemeni and Saudi factions, is distinct from Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who recently signed a US-imposed ceasefire. The organization proliferated during Yemen’s current civil war, in which the Houthis have been battling a Saudi-led coalition backing the Yemeni government since 2015.

Al-Awlaki succeeded in 2024 following the demise of his predecessor Khalid Batarfi and has a $6 million US price on his head for openly advocating attacks on the US and its allies. Although weakened in recent years by internal fighting and US drone attacks, AQAP is still among the most dangerous al-Qaeda affiliates.

UN officials put AQAP’s active strength at between 3,000 and 4,000 fighters, financing activities from bank heists, smuggling, counterfeiting, and kidnappings for ransom. Although AQAP attacks on Houthis have abated, its militants keep up their attacks on the Saudi-led coalition.

With its fresh emphasis on Gaza, AQAP appears to be following the Houthis’ lead, who themselves have launched missiles at Israel and attacked Red Sea shipping to support Palestinians. Yemen specialist Mohammed al-Basha cautions that though international focus is decreasing, “Yemen still matters” when it comes to world security.

The operation led to the arrest of six individuals and the detention of eight suspects.

The module, reportedly headed by Dr. Ishtiyaq from Ranchi, was allegedly focused on establishing a ‘Khilafat’ and carrying out terrorist activities across India. According to police sources, the group had undergone indoctrination and weapons training at various locations.

The six individuals were apprehended in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, while undergoing weapons training. Additionally, eight more suspects were detained from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh for further questioning.

Multiple raids were conducted at 15 locations in Ranchi, one in Rajasthan, and another in Aligarh, UP. During the raids, law enforcement officials seized an array of weapons and explosives, including an AK-47 rifle, a .38-bore revolver, an air rifle, an iron elbow pipe, a hand grenade, and six live AK-47 cartridges.

The operation has successfully foiled a potential terrorist plot, with ongoing interrogations expected to yield more details and possible further arrests. Investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the module’s plans and activities.

Al-Shabaab, tied to al-Qaeda, has been destabilizing Somalia for nearly two decades. Recent violence includes a deadly beach attack and other bombings in Mogadishu.
</excerpt>

On Saturday, Puntland, a semi-autonomous region of Somalia, executed ten fighters from the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab. The executions, carried out by firing squad in Galkayo, were the result of a military court trial that convicted the fighters of involvement in multiple assassinations and bombings in the city.

According to police sources cited by AFP, the fighters had previously been sentenced to death by the supreme court of the armed forces for their role in violent attacks in Galkayo.

Al-Shabaab’s Decline and Recent Attacks

Al-Shabaab, an Islamist extremist group with ties to al-Qaeda, emerged in the early 2000s with the aim of establishing an Islamic state in Somalia. Despite initially gaining support by promising security, the group’s reputation was severely damaged when it rejected Western food aid during the 2011 drought and famine, worsening the humanitarian crisis.

For nearly two decades, al-Shabaab has been engaged in a violent campaign to overthrow Somalia’s central government and impose its strict interpretation of sharia law. Recent months have seen a resurgence in violence, including a suicide bombing and gun attack on a busy beach in Mogadishu that killed 37 people. In June, a car bomb at a cafe in the capital claimed five lives, and in March, an hours-long siege on a hotel resulted in three deaths and 27 injuries.

The conflict in Somalia continues as al-Shabaab remains a significant threat to stability and security in the region.

</excerpt>

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in the national capital, Delhi Police has heightened the security arrangements and put up posters of various terrorists linked with Al Qaeda and Khalistan.

Police have put up posters across the city and they have also encouraged people to assist them in catching the terrorists. The Delhi police said that those coming forward with any information regarding the terrorists will be rewarded “suitably”. The names of informants will, however, be concealed.

Police said that the security measures are taken to raise awareness among the people and help police track the terrorists.

Sub-inspector Komal Shakya, who is an officer in charge of the Khan Market all-women police booth said that this is being done to create awareness among the citizens.

According to the police, there are fifteen terrorists mentioned in the posters, out of whom six are associated with Al-Qaeda

To ensure the nation’s security, ahead of Independence Day, Punjab police have also taken heightened security measures by carrying out spot searches at all the bus stands across the state, earlier on Tuesday.

The CASO, conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, was carried out from 1 pm to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts, under which police teams, with the assistance of sniffer dogs, frisked people arriving and departing at bus stands.

Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who was personally monitoring this state-level operation, said that all the Commissioner of Police/Senior Superintendent of Police (CPs/SSPs) were asked to ensure proper cordon-off and thorough search of all the bus stands in their respective districts amidst the maximum number of police teams under the supervision of SP rank officers to make this operation successful.

The Delhi police have also busted the illegal sale of Chinese Manjha in the national capital ahead of Independence Day. On Monday, the police seized a huge amount of Chinese manjha from a house at Fayaz Ganj in the Azad Market area. One person was arrested during the raid.

The threat, issued in the name of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, has led the Patna Police to register a case on August 2 and initiate an investigation.

Following the threat, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) registered an FIR at the Secretariat police station and initiated an investigation.

Previously, Patna Airport also received a bomb threat via email, resulting in increased security measures. Fortunately, no incidents occurred, and the authorities were quick to respond.

In July, bomb-making materials, including 35 live cartridges, a box of potassium nitrate, trifluralin liquid cans, wooden charcoal, and twine, were discovered in a Patna residence. The police arrested a suspect, Pawan Mahto, and are investigating the potential conspiracy behind the large cache of explosives.

The police acted swiftly to prevent a major incident, and the Bihar Police are taking the current threat to the Chief Minister’s Office very seriously, with all security agencies treating the matter with utmost gravity.

</excerpt>

The United States has reached a plea deal with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, and two other defendants, the US Department of Defense announced on Wednesday local time). Mohammed, also known as KSM, was apprehended in Pakistan in 2003 for his suspected role in the terrorist attacks.

In 2008, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed faced charges including conspiracy, murder under the law of war, assaults on civilians and civilian objects, causing serious injury, property destruction under the law of war, terrorism, and providing material support for terrorism, according to CNN. The US had planned to pursue the death penalty for Mohammed. Additionally, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi have also agreed to plea deals, the Pentagon confirmed.

The New York Times reports that the men have agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges in return for a life sentence instead of the death penalty. On September 11, 2001, the United States experienced its deadliest terrorist attack, with over 3,000 fatalities. In just 102 minutes, the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center fell after being hit by planes hijacked by Al Qaeda operatives.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists from Al Qaeda took control of four commercial flights traveling from the northeastern US to California. They turned the planes into weapons, crashing the first two into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the third into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control. The attacks resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths. United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers intervened, preventing it from reaching its intended target.

</excerpt>

Pakistani counter-terrorism authorities have arrested Amin ul Haq, a senior leader of Al-Qaeda, known for his close ties with Osama Bin Laden, according to a report by Dawn. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Punjab province has charged ul Haq with plotting sabotage against critical installations in the region.

In a significant breakthrough, the CTD, working in collaboration with intelligence agencies, successfully apprehended ul Haq in Sarai Alamgir, a town in Gujrat district, Punjab. The arrest marks a crucial development in Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

Significant Terrorism Ties

Amin ul Haq, who has been a close associate of Osama Bin Laden since 1996, was involved in numerous terrorist activities and is listed as a global terrorist by the United Nations. His arrest is seen as a critical step in combating both national and international terrorism.

According to the CTD, ul Haq was allegedly planning a “large-scale terrorist operation” within Pakistan. The capture of ul Haq underscores the country’s commitment to tackling terrorism and preventing future attacks.

Historical Context

Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks on the United States, was killed in 2011 during a U.S. raid on his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The arrest of ul Haq reinforces the ongoing efforts to dismantle Al-Qaeda and disrupt its operational capabilities.

The CTD has hailed ul Haq’s arrest as a pivotal moment in their counter-terrorism efforts, reflecting the significant strides made in addressing the threat of global terrorism.

</excerpt>

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has convicted al-Hassan ag Abdoul Aziz ag Mohamed ag Mahmoud, the former head of the Islamic police in Mali’s. In the historic city of Timbuktu, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Prosecutors accused Hassan of leading a “reign of terror” in Timbuktu after it was overrun in 2012 by the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar Dine group. He was a senior member of the Islamic police, recruited by al-Qaeda leaders.

Hassan, who remained emotionless as the verdict was read out in The Hague, Netherlands, was acquitted on charges linked to rape, sexual slavery, and imposing forced marriages on women. The ICC noted that 2,196 victims participated in the trial proceedings, with 7,896 documents recorded and 13,275 items of evidence submitted over 195 hearings.

Hassan was handed over to the ICC in 2018 by Malian authorities, five years after French troops helped liberate Timbuktu from the jihadists. Ansar Dine was one of several Islamist militant groups that exploited an ethnic Tuareg uprising to take over cities in northern Mali.

As police chief, Hassan oversaw punishments such as public amputations and the flogging of residents, including children.

“Al Hassan has been found guilty by majority decision of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including torture, cruel treatment, and outrages upon personal dignity, for the public flogging of 13 members of the population of Timbuktu,” Judge Antoine Kesia-Mbe Mindua stated, according to Reuters.

“The inhabitants had no other choice but to adapt their lives and lifestyles to conform to the interpretation of Islamic Sharia law imposed on them by the force of arms,” Judge Mindua added, as reported by AFP.

Hassan was also involved in interrogations where torture was used to extract confessions, the judge noted. The prosecution case included testimony from Dédéou Maiga, who was accused of petty theft and arrested by Hassan. He was tied to a chair in public, and his hand was amputated and died in 2017.

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) welcomed the judgment but expressed disappointment that Hassan was acquitted of the gender-based crimes.

“This verdict represents an important step for the victims in their quest for justice in relation to international crimes committed in Mali in 2012,” said FIDH Secretary General Drissa Traoré.

One survivor expressed dismay at the outcome. “I am partly disappointed by this verdict which does not take into account the rapes, let alone the sexual slavery, the suffering that I and other women in Timbuktu have suffered with the complicity of Al Hassan,” she said.

In a related case, another Islamist militant leader, Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi, was sentenced to nine years in jail in 2016 for destroying ancient shrines in Timbuktu. Mahdi admitted to leading rebel forces that destroyed historic mausoleums at the World Heritage site in 2012.

The attempt of pan-Islamic terrorist organisations like Islamic State and Al Qaida to radicalise Muslims in order to target India in the name of blasphemy is a growing concern for the national security agencies.

Other friendly nations, including the US, Jordan, Russia, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, are cooperating with New Delhi to share digital traces of Islamic radicalization and encrypted conversations in order to avert any untoward incidents in the hinterland of India.

Investigations into the apprehension of Islamic State suicide bomber Mashrabkon Azamov by the Russian Federal Security Service, or FSB, have shown that another Kyrgyzstani citizen, in addition to the jailed Uzbek, was taught to attack India by Islamists in Turkey. According to the information, the Kyrgyz national travelled from Moscow to India along the same path as the two assailants. While the Indian security agencies are still expecting the 30-year-old Azamov’s interrogation report, they have forwarded to their Russian counterparts a list of precise questions so that the attacker might be questioned along those lines. Additionally, Indian security services are in contact with their Kyrgyz and Uzbek counterparts to request authorization to participate in investigations.

Russian intelligence prevented an attack on India, and Jordanian intelligence warned their Indian counterparts about the radicalization of engineering student Meer Anaas Ali, who is from Ambur Town in Tamil Nadu. The third-year engineering student was being radicalised online to take revenge on India for insulting the Prophet. The student is currently being held in judicial custody after being detained on July 31 by Tamil Nadu police. According to the local authorities, Anaas was interacting with his internet handlers on social media sites like Telegram and Instagram and had ties to the ultra-conservative Wahhabi organisation that was outlawed. His Islamic State controllers gave him the assignment to target non-Muslims and assassinate a prominent figure in order to engender fear and divide the people along religious lines.

The pan-Islamist terrorist organisations have been contemplating strategies for attacking India over the past two months, and the allied intelligence services have been warning their Indian counterparts about this. Apart from the Pakistani deep state, groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, which is active in Turkey, Kuwait, and Qatar, are attempting to throw fuel on the fire by encouraging radicalised individuals to “teach India a lesson.” While the Muslim Brotherhood uses its connections with Islamist groups in India to incite violence in the name of religion, Rawalpindi is utilising Pakistani cadres within the Islamic State of Khorasan Province to target New Delhi through Indian recruits in the Wahabbi organisation.
