IAF Tejas fighter crashes in Jaisalmer, pilot ejects safely

An Indian Air Force Tejas aircraft crashed in the vicinity of a student hostel in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer during a training mission. The pilot safely ejected, and there were no reported injuries on the ground.

This marks the first crash of the indigenous jet since its inaugural test flight 23 years ago, back in 2001. The Tejas, classified as a light combat aircraft, was incorporated into the Indian Air Force in 2016.

The aircraft went down on the premises of a student hostel near the Lakshmi Chand Sanwal Colony in Jaisalmer at approximately 2 pm. The pilot successfully ejected, stated the Air Force, which also announced an investigation into the occurrence.

“One Tejas aircraft of the Indian Air Force met with an accident at Jaisalmer, today during an operational training sortie. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident,” the Indian Air Force said on X.

Following the crash, the aircraft ignited but the fire has since been extinguished. It remains uncertain if the plane was involved in the ongoing war games in Rajasthan.

A witness said, “I was standing nearby. The pilot of the plane ejected and I saw a parachute open. The aircraft crashed to the ground and there was a loud explosion.”

In 2016, the No. 45 Squadron, nicknamed the ‘Flying Daggers’, became the first IAF unit to incorporate the Tejas. The No. 18 Squadron followed suit in 2020, becoming the second IAF unit to operate this aircraft.

Presently, the Indian Air Force manages a fleet of 40 Tejas MK-1 aircraft, with an additional order of 83 Tejas MK-1A fighters valued at over ₹46,000 crore.

Additionally, the Indian Navy utilizes a twin-seater version of the aircraft.

Two Pilots Killed in Trainer Aircraft Crash in Telangana

According to local authorities, a trainer aircraft from the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in the Medak district of Telangana on Monday morning. The tragic incident occurred in the district’s Toopran mandal, killing both a trainer and a trainee pilot aboard the aircraft.

The Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, expressed deep sorrow over the crash, mourning the loss of the two pilots. “Anguished by this accident near Hyderabad, It is deeply saddening that two pilots have lost their lives. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families,” Singh stated.

The aircraft, identified as a Pilatus PC 7 Mk II trainer, departed from the Air Force Academy (AFA) located in Dundigal, near Hyderabad, according to a senior police official.

In an official statement, the IAF confirmed the accident during a routine training sortie and regretfully announced the fatalities of both pilots. The statement read, “It is with deep regret that the IAF confirms that both pilots on board have sustained fatal injuries. No damage to civil life or property has been reported. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”

Authorities and the IAF are initiating a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the crash. The tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the region, prompting an inquiry into the cause of the unfortunate accident.

Ghazipur: village mourns death of its four residents in Nepal plane crash

The recent crash of the YETI airlines ATR 72 aircraft has left the residents of Ghazipur inconsolable since four of the five Indians killed in the crash were residents of the village. The deceased, identified as Abhishek Kushwaha, Vishal Sharma, Sonu and Anil Rajbhar, ran different businesses here. They were the sole earners for their families. Chandra Maurya, the father of the late Kushwaha, said he was the only earning member of the family. The deceased used to run a public service centre.

The whole district is inconsolable, and the local shopkeepers have not opened their shops today.
“In this hour of grief, the entire region stands with the deceased’s family,” a shop owner said. The situation is the same at Vishal Sharma’s house, where villagers have gathered to share their grief.

Nepal: Black box of ATR 72 aircraft recovered from the crash

The black box from the Yeti Airlines ATR 72 aircraft has been recovered from the crash. The plane, which had 72 people on board, had crashed a day ago in Pokhara minutes before the crash. As per information from the authorities a total of 68 bodies have been recovered so far.

The black box, a flight data recorder, is crucial in understanding the cause of the crash. The Deputy Inspector General of the Nepal Armed Police Force, earlier today, said that the rescue operations were resumed to trace the four who are still missing.

“We haven’t rescued anyone alive from the crash site,” said Nepal Army Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Bhandari.

Yeti Airlines recently shared an official statement on Twitter in which it said, “In mourning for the passengers who lost their lives in the accident of Yeti Airlines 9N ANC ATR 72 500, we would like to inform you that all regular flights of Yeti Airlines for 16th January 2023 have been cancelled.”

On Sunday, an aircraft carrying 68 passengers and four crew members crashed in Nepal’s Pokhara. According to the spokesperson of the Nepal Army, a total of 16 bodies have been recovered from the site of the crash of a passenger aircraft. Of the 68 passengers on board, 5 were Indians.

Taking to Twitter, the office of the Prime Minister of Nepal tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident of Yeti Airlines ANC ATR 72, which was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara with passengers. I sincerely appeal to the security personnel, all agencies of the Nepal government and the general public to start an effective rescue.” Following the crash PM Pushpa reached the site to take updates on the situation.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also condoled the loss saying, “The loss of lives in a tragic plane crash in Nepal is extremely unfortunate. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the bereaved. Om Shanti.”

Kathmandu Post quoted a spokesperson of Yeti Airlines Sudarshan Bartaula as saying that the ATR 72 Yeti airlines aircraft crashed between the old airport and the Pokhara International Airport.
Images and videos of the crash posted on social media platforms showed plumes of smoke billowing out of the crash site.

“The inquiry will find out the reasons for the plane crash. A technical team has left from Mumbai and the accident site has been covered,” Mishra said in a press conference.

The deceased pilot has been identified as Vimal Kumar, a resident of Patna, Bihar, while the injured trainee, Sonu Yadav of Jaipur is being treated, Mishra said.

One pilot died and another was injured after a plane crashed into a temple in Rewa of Madhya Pradesh in the early hours of Friday. As per Rewa SP Navneet Bhasin, The aircraft which belonged to a private company was taxiing from Chorhata Airstrip, when it crashed after colliding with the dome of a temple in Dumri Village of Rewa district

“The plane collided with a temple during training, one pilot has died, and the other is injured and is being treated at Sanjay Gandhi Medical College,” Navneet Bhasin, SP, Rewa told ANI.

Bad weather and fog conditions prevailing in the area are being attributed as the reason for the crash.

Trainee Aviation Cessna 152 aircraft crashes in Pune, woman pilot injured

Due to suspected power loss on Monday a trainee aircraft crashed. In which 22-year-old pilot Bhavika Rathod was injured. The incident took place at 11:30 am on Monday on a farm in Kadbanwadi village of Indapur Taluka in the Pune district of Maharashtra.

“On July 25, Carver Aviation Cessna 152 aircraft VT-ALI on a solo cross country flight made a crash landing while 15nm inbound to Baramati Airfield due to suspected power loss,” Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) informed.

Moreover, staff members of Carver aviation are on spot.

Earlier in January, the Indian Army’s Officer’s aircraft crashed in Bihar’s Gaya where both the pilots in the aircraft were safe.

According to the officials, “An aircraft of the Indian Army’s Officer’s Training Academy in Gaya, Bihar today crashed soon after taking off during training. Both pilots in the aircraft are safe.”

However, further investigation into this matter is underway.
