</excerpt>

Meta, the parent of Instagram, has said it will use artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically identify users under the age of 18 who try to impersonate their age on the site. The initiative is part of a larger push to improve safety protocols for children following repeated criticism over the firm’s treatment of children’s privacy and mental well-being issues.

The technology giant announced Monday that it has been using AI to determine users‘ ages already and will now ramp up the efforts by automatically changing suspected underage accounts into teen accounts. The teen accounts are equipped with more stringent privacy and safety settings meant to protect minors from inappropriate content and contact.

Stricter Settings for Teen Accounts

Teen accounts will now be private by default. Messaging capabilities will be limited, and teens will only be able to receive direct messages from people they follow or who they are already connected with. Meta will also limit exposure to “sensitive content” like violent videos or those advocating cosmetic procedures.

To promote healthy online habits, Instagram will notify teens who spend over 60 minutes on the app and will enable a “sleep mode” by default. This setting disables notifications and activates auto-replies from 10 pm to 7 am.

Meta described that its AI model is trained to detect signs that a user could be underage. These are the content users engage with, account creation information, and profile details. If the AI detects a user as possibly faking their age, their account settings will automatically change to those of a teen account.

No Livestreaming Without Parental Permission

As part of the update, Meta also confirmed that teens aged under 16 will no longer be able to livestream on Instagram without direct parental consent. Parental consent will also be needed to disable features such as content blurring, which reduces exposure to possibly upsetting content.

The changes come after Meta recently rolled out teen safety settings to its other sites, including Facebook and Messenger.

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis Thinks It Is Possible

<excerpt>The idea that AI might day cure all human diseases sounds like something from a science fiction film. But according to Google Deepmind CEO Demis Hassabis, it is possible.
</excerpt>

CEO of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis thinks the impact of AI on healthcare might be greater than you can possibly imagine.

According to Hassabis, artificial intelligence might one day cure all human diseases .

Speaking to CBS’s 60 Minutes this week, Hassabis laid out a bold vision for what the next generation of AI could achieve

Artificial intelligence (AI) has intrigued the tech world for decades — and yet, we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface. From healthcare to finance, the emerging technology is likely to impact various sectors in future. And according to co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis, the impact of AI on healthcare might be greater than you can possibly imagine.

The idea that artificial intelligence might one day cure all human diseases has long sounded like something straight out of a science fiction film. But according to Hassabis, that future may not be as distant as we think.

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis on AI curing all diseases

Speaking to CBS’s 60 Minutes this week, Hassabis laid out a bold vision for what the next generation of AI could achieve — and its potential to completely transform the way we understand and treat illness. “It takes, on average, ten years and billions of dollars to develop a single drug,” he said. “But with AI, that timeline could shrink to months, or even weeks. That would be revolutionary.”

In the same interview, he added, “I think one day, maybe we can cure all disease with the help of AI. Maybe within the next decade. I don’t see why not.”

Hassabis isn’t talking in abstracts. His confidence comes on the back of recent breakthroughs in protein folding, an essential step in understanding the biological processes behind disease. DeepMind’s AI system, AlphaFold, has already mapped the structure of more than 200 million proteins — a task that, until recently, would have taken human researchers thousands of years.

Is a Disease-Free Future Possible?

While Hassabis stopped short of offering a specific timeline, his optimism is clear: the convergence of AI and biomedical science could lead, he believes, to the complete eradication of disease. “We may one day be able to cure all diseases with the help of AI,” he said. “It sounds unbelievable now, but so did protein folding breakthroughs five years ago.”

Of course, much work remains — both in developing the underlying AI tools and ensuring they’re deployed ethically, safely, and accessibly. But the foundation is being laid, and fast.

As the world watches the progress of DeepMind and its competitors, one thing is certain: the question is no longer whether AI will revolutionise medicine — but how far, and how quickly, it will go.

Support from a Surprising Corner

Hassabis’s comments have stirred up plenty of discussion, not least because of their ambition. But notably, they also received praise from an unexpected rival. Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI — a company working in a similar space — responded by calling Hassabis a “genius” and voicing admiration for his vision.

Such cross-company support is rare in the world of AI, but it reflects the magnitude of what’s at stake. If the technology can deliver even part of what Hassabis suggests, the implications for global healthcare are immense.

The case could reshape who controls AI’s future.
</excerpt>

OpenAI sues back Elon Musk in a bold move that raises the stakes of one of Silicon Valley’s largest showdowns in the courtroom. OpenAI alleges that Elon Musk waged a “bad-faith” effort to upset its work, disseminate false information, and advance a private agenda to commandeer cutting-edge AI. It is a turnabout from the initial lawsuit in which Musk claimed OpenAI renounced its nonprofit origins by agreeing to work with Microsoft for financial gain. As this case heads to trial in 2026, it’s not just about ChatGPT or boardroom power. It’s about who gets to shape AI’s future—and whether that power will be used ethically and transparently.

Brief History: From co-founders to courtroom enemies

Elon Musk, along with Sam Altman and several other technology leaders, co-founded OpenAI in 2015. The community wanted to democratize AI so its rewards would benefit everyone—not just Big Tech. In essence, OpenAI was a nonprofit that emphasized safety, openness, and public good.

By 2018, Musk left the group. Reports say he disagreed with OpenAI’s plan to compete directly with Google in AI development. He also opposed the growing ties with Microsoft. After his exit, OpenAI shifted to a “capped-profit” model. This allowed it to raise billions while claiming to uphold nonprofit values.

In March 2024, Musk sued OpenAI. The company, according to him, violated its founding agreement by showing more concern about profit than about public interest. His lawsuit petitioned the court to prevent the further development of GPT models under Microsoft control and accused OpenAI of becoming a “closed-source” corporate tool.

Why OpenAI countersued Elon Musk ?

On April 10, 2025, OpenAI fired back with a lawsuit of its own. It alleged Elon Musk’s legal actions weren’t ethical—they were power-grabs. OpenAI accused him of spreading misinformation, destabilizing the company, and attempting to seize control. Musk made an offer to buy OpenAI in February for $97.4 billion. Sam Altman brushed it off, saying they’d rather spend a tenth of that on buying X (formerly Twitter).

OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman have counter-sued Elon Musk, accusing him of fraudulent practices ?

They claim his $97.375 billion buyout offer in February was a “sham bid” to block their fundraising pic.twitter.com/xIIVsWhqgY

— Waivly (@Waivly) April 10, 2025

OpenAI further claimed Musk had been in favor of the for-profit shift during initial board discussions. He disagrees with his public rhetoric, they assert. The countersuit alleges Musk attempted to delay their efforts so that his own AI company, xAI, could get up to speed.

A power struggle that could define AI ethics

This is not only about claims or business form. Deep down, it’s an authority fight about the creation of AI—and who should dictate it. Elon Musk seeks to revive the nonprofit mission of OpenAI. OpenAI argues public good and private investment can happen simultaneously.

The question that looms larger is: Does someone as influential as Musk deserve to steer AI development for self-interest or competition purposes?

This legal battle can help determine what “ethical AI” actually is. Is it transparency in collaborations? Remaining mission-focused? Or steering clear of billionaire control altogether?

Impact on the AI Industry

This court fight could transform the way the AI industry works. The impact could be felt across funding, regulation, and company structures. Here’s what to look out for:

More regulation: Governments might scrutinize AI collaborations and intellectual property transactions more intensely.

Fewer investors’ confidence: Legal soap opera can deter investors cautious of dirty boardroom battles.

Slower R&D: Public courtroom battles between market leaders can pull focus from actual research and development.

Policy reforms: Lawmakers may take this case as a model to push through new regulations on AI control.

Both xAI and OpenAI, founded by Musk, are creating advanced language models. What transpires in court may determine not only their future—but the future of generative AI in industries.

Musk’s Plan: Ethics or Empire?

Elon Musk claims that OpenAI compromised its mission. Detractors claim his ulterior motive is strategic. The success of ChatGPT, GPT-4, and impending GPT-5 compromises xAI’s opportunities to contend. Experts deem the lawsuit to be a tactic to hinder OpenAI while Musk establishes his empire.

Musk’s legal maneuvers and public communication follow a known script. He positions himself as the champion of transparency—quietly positioning himself to own the AI space. Whether that’s ego or idealism is hard to say.

What’s next for future of AI?

The federal court in Oakland has scheduled the trial for March 2026. Until then, expect more filings, statements, and media battles. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers already denied Musk’s request to freeze OpenAI’s corporate changes. That decision suggests the court may hesitate to interfere in evolving tech models.

OpenAI says it’s focused on building safe, responsible AI and calls the lawsuit a distraction. Musk continues to portray himself as AI’s moral compass—even as he expands his own business through xAI Holdings.

At the heart of OpenAI countersues Elon Musk is a deeper conflict. It’s about who gets to shape the future of artificial intelligence—and how that power is used. Is Musk battling for the mission or for control of the market? The fate of this lawsuit may determine the tone for AI regulation, funding morality, and leadership transparency for the next few years. As the technology industry looks on, this case may prove to be a turning point in the perennial struggle between power, profit, and principle in the age of artificial intelligence.

India’s Digital Surge Leaves Silicon Valley Behind — Experts Urge Reforms

<excerpt>India’s digital revolution is setting global benchmarks. Experts say it’s ahead of Silicon Valley but warn that reforms are vital.
</excerpt>

India’s digital ecosystem has created new world-class benchmarks. Speaking at the CNN-News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025, technology expert Vivek Wadhwa claimed that India now outpaces Silicon Valley in digital presence. He complimented the country’s affordable and fast internet and encouraged people to grasp their technological advantage.

Amid these achievements, experts at the summit pointed to a crucial lacuna. They called for deeper reforms, increased rural connectivity, and continued investments. As global recognition increases, India needs to tackle policy lags and increase digital inclusion to sustain its leadership.

Geopolitical shifts are rewriting alliances, redrawing power maps, and creating space for new leaders to rise. At the heart of this global reset stands India, bold, youthful, and ready to lead. Powered by the unstoppable drive of its youth and a renewed vision for innovation,… pic.twitter.com/f0GHsBGLCr

— Firstpost (@firstpost) April 6, 2025

Milestones in India’s Digital Journey

India’s journey to digital greatness has some notable accomplishments. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) identified India’s digital public infrastructure as a benchmark for other countries. Projects such as Aadhaar have made direct benefit transfers easier, curbing fraud and encouraging economic formalization.

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has revolutionized real-time payments, facilitating around 49% of the world’s transactions in 2023. The BharatNet project has also enabled more than 214,000 gram panchayats to be connected to high-speed internet, boosting rural connectivity.

Investment Requirements for Sustainable Development

Despite these achievements, there are large investments required to address the growing need for digital services. A collaborative report by EY and the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) approximates India’s digital infrastructure industry requiring up to $23 billion by 2025. Such funding is essential to fund the expected boom in online traffic and services in industries such as e-commerce, education, and healthcare. The report estimates that 330 million people will be covered by 5G services by 2025, highlighting the imperative to upgrade infrastructure.

Bridging the Urban-Rural Digital Divide

As urban centers witness exponential digital growth, rural areas are still struggling with poor internet connectivity and low digital literacy. To close this gap, BharatNet is seeking to provide broadband connectivity to more than 600,000 villages. In addition, digital literacy campaigns at the national level covering marginalized sections are critical for growth to be inclusive. Adoption of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, is also critical to secure user data and ensure trust in digital ecosystems.

Emerging Technologies

In addition to infrastructure and literacy, India’s attention is now shifting towards emerging technologies. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT) hold the potential to transform sectors across the board. These technologies, if deployed together, can make operations more efficient, generate employment opportunities, and establish India as a global technology leader. All this needs is sound policy frameworks, investment in research and development, and the availability of skilled manpower for adopting these innovations.

India’s digital emergence represents a revolutionary period of innovation and accessibility. With strategic investments, inclusive policies, and emerging technologies at the forefront, India can cement its status as a digital leader in the world, ensuring that the fruits of this revolution are shared by all.

</excerpt>

Meta has announced its most ambitious open-source AI models to date with the release of the Llama 4 AI family—Scout, Maverick, and Behemoth. The surprise announcement marks Meta’s move to regain leadership in a rapidly evolving AI environment. The models provide robust capabilities in text, images, and video, and are designed to take on competitors such as OpenAI, Google, and DeepSeek. But the rollout is not controversy-free, particularly with Meta restricting access in the EU due to stringent AI regulations. With the world AI race intensifying, Meta’s Llama 4 move has the potential to change the dynamics of open AI.

Maverick and Scout Show Power

Maverick, Meta’s new leader, promises to surpass GPT-4o and Gemini 2.0 in coding, reasoning, and visual tasks. Scout is less massive but equally impressive. It has 17 billion active parameters and a 10-million-token context window, making it a breeze to work with long scholarly and legal texts—even on one Nvidia H100 GPU.

Nevertheless, Meta has had access limited in the European Union. EU companies and developers can’t distribute or use Llama 4 AI. Meta attributes stifling innovation to tough regulatory environments. Already, the move has been the subject of controversy between policymakers and tech bosses.

Behemoth Backs Meta’s Comeback

Still in the works, Behemoth is Meta’s most ambitious AI model to date. With 288 billion active parameters and close to 2 trillion total, it’s one of the largest ever constructed. Initial tests indicate that it may surpass GPT-4.5 and Claude 3.7 Sonnet on challenging STEM tests. Yet Gemini 2.5 Pro remains ahead in a number of important areas.

Meta accelerated Llama 4 development following DeepSeek’s success, which revealed Llama 2’s limitations. Internal “war rooms” were initiated to reverse-engineer their success. </excerpt>

As the latest AI-generated art trend takes social media by storm, a viral video of Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki has reignited a debate about artificial intelligence in animation. Miyazaki, known for creating beloved films such as Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro, expressed his strong disapproval of AI-generated animation in an old video. While the digital art world embraces AI innovations, Miyazaki’s comments have sparked a reflection on the emotional depth and human experience that artificial intelligence fails to grasp.

Miyazaki’s Strong Opposition to AI Animation

Recently, a viral video has resurfaced showing Hayao Miyazaki sharing his thoughts on AI in animation. In the video, Miyazaki reacts to a demonstration of AI-generated animation. The animation in question depicted a bizarre zombie-like figure, with unnatural movements, including head-based dance motions that the presenters claimed AI could create beyond human imagination.

https://latest.thedailyguardian.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/V-8dkm9x4IDVILDe.mp4

Miyazaki, who was visibly unimpressed, expressed his thoughts on the animation’s lack of human emotion and connection. He recalled a friend of his with a disability who struggles with simple movements like giving a high five due to muscle stiffness. He shared that the bizarre movements in the animation reminded him of his friend’s struggles. Miyazaki criticized the AI-generated content for failing to understand the pain and effort involved in real-life movements, stating, “Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever.”

Miyazaki further explained that he found the animation “creepy” and expressed his disgust, saying, “I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all.”

He then went on to call the AI-generated animation an “insult to life itself,” emphasizing his belief that technology should capture and express authentic human emotion, something AI was incapable of achieving.

AI-Generated Art’s Rising Popularity and ChatGPT’s Role

Despite Miyazaki’s criticism, the popularity of AI-generated art continues to rise. OpenAI’s latest update to ChatGPT, integrated with a new image generator, has taken social media by storm. The tool has allowed users to create stunning Ghibli-inspired artwork, leading to a wave of creativity and fascination among social media users. The art generation model, known as GPT-4o, has impressed people with its ability to generate unique art pieces in the distinctive style of Studio Ghibli.

The widespread excitement over AI-generated Ghibli-style artwork has caught the attention of many, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who even changed his profile picture to an AI-generated Ghibli-style image. However, while some celebrate the possibilities of AI art, others, like Miyazaki, question its authenticity and connection to human life.

Scheduled to reopen by 2028, the project promises 3,400 jobs and $16 billion in economic benefits, despite controversy over nuclear safety and concerns about alternative sustainable energy investments.
</excerpt>

Microsoft entered into a agreement with Constellation Energy, one of the largest producer of carbon-free energy in the US, to revive the shuttered Three Mile Island nuclear power plant near Middletown, Pennsylvania. The plant, which was the site of the worst commercial nuclear accident in US history in 1979, is set to be reactivated under a 20-year power purchase agreement, aiming to support Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) projects and data centers.

Plant Renamed, Set to Reopen in 2028

Renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center in honor of Chris Crane, a former CEO of Constellation’s parent company, the plant is scheduled to be operational by 2028. This marks a key step in Constellation Energy’s largest-ever deal, which emphasizes the importance of reliable, carbon-free energy in advancing the tech industry.

Economic Boost for Pennsylvania

The plant’s revival is expected to create approximately 3,400 jobs and contribute over $3 billion in state and federal taxes. Additionally, it will add $16 billion to Pennsylvania’s GDP, positioning the state as a leader in the national energy landscape. Governor Josh Shapiro emphasized the critical role of nuclear energy in providing safe, carbon-free electricity.

Controversy Surrounding the Project

While the reactor slated for reopening was not involved in the 1979 meltdown, the decision to bring Three Mile Island back online has sparked controversy. The plant, shut down in 2019 due to an inability to compete with cheaper energy alternatives, remains a point of contention among local activists. Critics argue that public funds could be better spent on other sustainable energy investments rather than reviving a plant with a fraught history.

Nuclear Energy and the Tech Industry’s Future

Nuclear power is emerging as a key solution for the tech sector’s growing energy needs, particularly for AI, due to its consistent and carbon-free energy supply. This move by Microsoft is part of a broader trend in the tech industry to secure long-term energy sources. Bill Gates, Microsoft’s former CEO, is also heavily invested in nuclear energy, backing a plant in Wyoming aimed at powering homes and AI systems.

As Microsoft and Constellation Energy move forward with the project, the revival of Three Mile Island reignites debate over the role of nuclear power in a world increasingly focused on sustainability and carbon reduction.

</excerpt>

The Labour Party has clinched a rich victory in the UK General Election out casting the Conservative party by huge margins. With ending over a decade of opposition and paving the way for Labour leader Keir Starmer to assume the role of Prime Minister.

Labour now faces the formidable challenge of jumpstarting a sluggish economy and addressing the concerns of a disillusioned populace.

Amidst the political upheaval, the election also witnessed a groundbreaking moment with the introduction of the first-ever Artificial Intelligence candidate, AI Steve. Developed by businessman Steve Endacott, AI Steve contested in the Brighton Pavilion constituency but failed to rally voter support, securing a mere 179 votes.

In a landslide victory, Sian Berry of the Green Party emerged victorious in Brighton Pavilion with a commanding margin of over 28,000 votes, according to reports by the BBC.

Steve Endacott, an independent candidate hailing from Brighton, entered the electoral arena driven by his disappointment with conventional politics. Endacott’s company, Neural Voice, powered AI Steve, an AI-generated avatar that engaged locals in real-time discussions on various pressing issues such as LGBTQ rights, housing, waste management, and immigration.

AI Steve’s campaign extended beyond traditional methods, utilizing platforms like LinkedIn to connect with constituents. The AI boasted its ability to communicate simultaneously with all 45,000 constituents using an AI voice platform, aiming to “re-invent democracy” through transparent policy formation based on community input.

“A separate group of Validators, who rate them from 1:10, ensures the fairness of the process. A 50 per cent score is required for a policy to be adopted, ensuring that only the most supported policies are implemented,” AI Steve explains the process.

According to AI Steve’s social media profile, policies were subject to evaluation by a group of Validators, ensuring fairness through a rating system where a minimum 50% score was required for adoption.

The UK election watchdog clarified that any parliamentary seat won by “AI Steve” would be filled by human candidate Steve Endacott, rather than the AI entity itself.
