CM Saha Inaugurates Kali Puja in Agartala, Announces DA Hike

On Wednesday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the Kali Puja celebrations in Agartala, the state capital. He also announced a 5% Dearness Allowance (DA) increase for government employees and retirees as a Diwali gift. Speaking with reporters, CM Saha said, “The government employees work the whole year. We have announced a 5 per cent Dearness Allowance to government employees and retired employees. This is a Diwali gift.”

Festivities Include Dance and Felicitations

A lively dance performance by a women’s group set a festive mood for the event. Additionally, CM Saha honored several individuals, recognizing their contributions to the community.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated ten prominent Durga Puja pandals in Agartala on Monday. The event featured pandals organized by well-known social organizations, including the Green Arrow Club, Yuva Samaj, Blood Mouth Club, Modern Club, and Swami Vivekanand Club, among others.

Expressing his joy in participating, CM Saha praised the efforts of these organizations in promoting cultural heritage and fostering unity during the celebrations. These clubs are renowned for their grand Durga Puja festivities, characterized by vibrant decorations and elaborate themes.

Protest March In Agartala Led By Forum For Protection Of Minorities In Bangladesh

The Forum for the Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh organised a large protest march in Agartala on Sunday to condemn the ongoing atrocities faced by minorities in Bangladesh. The protest, which started at the Agartala Press Club, saw participation from journalists, club members, various social and cultural organisations, as well as the general public.

“In response to the recent incident in Bangladesh, we are organising a protest rally under the banner of the ‘Forum for the Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh.’ Journalists, club members, and representatives from various social and cultural organisations, along with the general public, have participated in this rally. This is just the first phase of our protest; we will send a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Governor, and we will continue this movement on a larger scale,” said senior journalist Pranav Sarkar while speaking to ANI.

The procession moved through the city’s streets and concluded in front of Rabindra Bhavan. Notable attendees included Press Club President Jayanta Bhattacharya, and senior journalists Subal Kumar Dey and Pranab Sarkar, along with other journalists and intellectuals who expressed solidarity with the cause.

Jayanta Bhattacharjee, President of Agartala Press Club, voiced deep concerns over the increasing attacks on minorities—including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists—following the political changes in Bangladesh. “It seems there is a deliberate plan to undermine the Hindu community in Bangladesh. We believe that the government must take action to protect the lives and rights of minorities. We share a sense of solidarity with Bangladesh, as we speak the same language, Bengali. Personally, I believe that the current government is funded by terrorist organizations and has an anti-Hindu agenda, driven by Muslim fundamentalism. Today, we are here to protest for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh,” Bhattacharjee stated.

Baishnab Vakti Kamal Goswami Maharaj of Gaudiya Math, Agartala, also spoke at the event, stating, “The purpose of our rally is to protest the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. This rally aims to call for an immediate end to the violence against minorities.”

The protest comes in the wake of recent developments in Bangladesh. Since the abrupt resignation of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, which ended her 15-year rule, there have been numerous reports of attacks on Hindu households, temples, and businesses. Hindus are the largest minority group in Bangladesh.

The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, took office on August 8 after the law and order situation deteriorated, leaving police unable to maintain order. Minority leaders met Yunus on August 13 to raise concerns about the ongoing violence targeting their communities.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also addressed the issue, urging Yunus to ensure the safety and security of minorities. Modi expressed his concerns during his Independence Day speech, focusing particularly on the security of Hindus in Bangladesh.

Hindus In Agartala Protest Over Attacks On Hindu Community In Bangladesh

On Wednesday, a large protest was organised by a Hindu group in Agartala, Tripura, in reaction to recent attacks on Hindu communities in Bangladesh. The demonstration began with a Sankirtan rally led by the Sanatani Hindu group, which traversed the city with participation from devotees, saints, and social workers from various communities. The rally aimed to express their distress and demand justice for the suffering of Hindus in Bangladesh.

During the protest, the demonstrators declared that the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh was intolerable and that they were ready to intensify their actions if needed.

Speaking to ANI, Shree Mad Bhakti Kamal Baishnav Maharaj said, “We have initiated a Sankirtan rally from Shri Krishna Chaitanya Math Jagannath Temple as a form of resistance against the persecution of Sanatani Hindus. Our goal is to encourage all those who have been initiated into the Vedic Sanatani religion to lead a life of devotion, chanting the names of the Lord, no matter where they are. We wish for everyone to live in peace and happiness through Sanatan Dharma, always keeping God in their hearts. Where there is Dharma, there is victory.”

In their demands, Baishnav Maharaj appealed to the Bangladeshi government to refrain from displacing the Sanatanis and instead promote peaceful coexistence.

“Our demand is that Sanatanis in Bangladesh should not be displaced. They have been there for the past 40 years, and now, where will they go? I urge the Bangladesh government not to displace them. I also appeal to everyone to live together in harmony. What will be achieved through so much hatred? Instead, let’s all come together, chant the names of Lord Hari, and make our lives truly blessed,” he added.

Mad Shyam Sundar Das Brahmachari Prabhu also said, “Today, we organised a Sankirtan protest from the Sri Krishna Chaitanya Math, Jagannath Temple, in response to the ongoing attacks on Sanatanis in Bangladesh. Temples are being vandalised, and our mothers and sisters are being assaulted. We will appeal to the government of Bangladesh to stop these injustices and ensure that no harm comes to Hindus living in the country. Sanatanis have been residing in Bangladesh for a long time, and they have nowhere else to go. We request that no oppression be inflicted upon them, and if such atrocities continue, all Sanatanis will unite for a larger movement. We do not desire violence; that is why we protested today through Sankirtan.”

Bangladesh is currently facing a turbulent political climate following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5 amid escalating protests. Initially sparked by students demanding the abolition of a government job quota system, the protests have expanded into broader anti-government demonstrations.

In the midst of this unrest, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, recently appointed as the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, visited the historic Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka. During his visit, he reassured the country’s minorities of their safety and security.

“Rights are equal for everyone. We are all one people with one right. Do not make any distinctions among us. Please, assist us. Exercise patience, and later judge — what we were able to do and not. If we fail, then criticise us,” Prof Yunus was quoted as saying by Bangladesh newspaper Daily Star.

Bangladeshi Nationals Apprehended At Agartala Railway Station

On Tuesday evening, 16 Bangladeshi nationals—comprising 13 men and 3 women—were detained at Agartala Railway Station. Among those arrested, three individuals were identified as Bangladeshi touts engaged in illegal activities.

The individuals were apprehended by local authorities, and a case has been filed at the Agartala Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) under several legal sections. The arrested individuals are set to appear before the court tomorrow.

The arrested Individuals have been identified as Mijanur Rahaman (26), Safikul Islam (30), Md. Alamin Ali (23), Md. Milan (38), Sahabul (30) Sariful Shek (30), Kabir Shek (34), Lija Khatun (26), Tania Khan (24), Ethi Shek (39), Brindaban Mandal (21), Abdul Hakim (25), Md. Idul (27), Md. Abdur Rahaman (20), Md. Ayub Ali (30) and Md. Jiarul (20).

The authorities are carrying out their investigation to assess the scope of illegal activities conducted by these individuals and any potential links to larger networks. Additional information on the case is still pending.

Tripura: Firearm, Two Magazines Seized At Agartala Railway Station

The Railway Unit of Tripura Police (GRP) seized a sophisticated firearm and two magazines from the possession of a duo including a female at Agartala Railway Station.

The accused have been identified as Karan Debbarma and Priya Debbarma, both residents of the Khodai district of Tripura were arrested as soon as they got off the Jan Shatabdi Express at the railway station on Friday.

The operation was based upon secret information, said police.

“At around 9 pm, we had received a secret information that a girl and boy travelling through Agartala bound Jan Shatabdi express might be carrying a firearm. Based on the secret information, police from GRP station and other agencies launched an operation,” Officer-in-Charge of Government Railway Police Station Tapas Das said.

According to Das, when the train halted at Agartala Railway Station they could finally identify the duo due to their suspicious movement and subsequently they were arrested.

“The boy and the girl were trying to cross the foot over the bridge hastily. Accordingly, teams posted in the exit points nabbed them. During the search operation, we seized a 9-mm pistol and two empty magazines. A case has been registered against the accused persons under Arms Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. They don’t have any legal permission to carry lethal weapons like this,” Das explained.
After medical examination, they would be produced before the Court with a prayer of remand.

Assam Rifles Hosts Ex-Servicemen Rally In Agartala

The Assam Rifles in Tripura organized an Ex-Servicemen Rally in Agartala, Tripura, showcasing its steadfast commitment to Veer Naris, the widows of bravehearts, and veterans. The rally, which took place on Friday, encompassed all districts of Tripura, attracting 172 ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, and their families.

The event commenced with opening remarks from the Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles, who welcomed all Veer Naris, widows of bravehearts, and ex-servicemen to this significant gathering. In his address, he emphasized Assam Rifles’ solidarity with its fallen heroes and veterans, assuring that the force remains dedicated to their needs and will take every necessary step to support them. He reiterated the organization’s goal of ensuring a dignified life for them and promptly resolving any pension-related and health issues they face.

Several stalls were set up to address the needs of the ex-servicemen, with grievances recorded for immediate resolution. Additional facilities included medical checkups, counseling and basic treatment by an oncologist, job enrollment opportunities with LIC, a dental checkup facility, a CSD extension counter, and a State Bank of India counter. The event concluded with the distribution of gifts to the attendees.

Tripura: 19-Year-Old Student Found Hanging in Agartala

Authorities reported that a 19-year-old student from ICFAI University was found hanging at her rented residence in Ramnagar, Agartala.
Dipannita Das, a 19-year-old from Shantirbazar in South Tripura, was identified as the deceased.

According to the police, Das was in her second semester of college. On Monday night, when the police and her friends entered her apartment, they found her hanging, making the tragedy known to the public.

“We received information that a university student wasn’t answering the door for a long time. The student was not even responding to repeated calls from her friends. So we reached the spot and in her presence of her friends, we forced the door open and found her hanging from the ceiling fan,” an official stated.

For the past six months, Dipannita had been living at this residence, occasionally sharing a room with her mother. Her sudden death surprised many in her social circle, as she was known for her calm and polite demeanor among her peers. According to the police, several individuals expressed confusion about the reasons behind her decision to take her own life.

The West PS Women’s unit in Agartala is leading the local police’s investigation into the matter.

Authorities mentioned that they have not yet determined the likely reason for her death by suicide.
“There are no leads yet. We haven’t landed any piece of evidence from her room that would shed light on what may have prompted her to take her own life. However, the investigation is underway,” the officer stated.

According to her college acquaintances, she showed no signs of distress that would have indicated suicidal tendencies.

The institution stated that it stands by all those impacted during this somber period and will issue an official statement regarding the student’s passing.

2 Tripura Class 8 boys who left home to ‘become someone’ traced at Mumbai, brought back home

Two students from a school in Agartala, who left for Mumbai with aspirations of “becoming someone before they return,” were located at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in the city on Tuesday, five days after their departure, officials stated here.

Kiran Kumar K, SP of West Tripura, informed reporters that a team of Tripura Police, along with the students’ parents, safely brought them back to Agartala on Thursday.

“On March 7 morning, two children from Hindi Higher Secondary School in 8th grade, inspired by Instagram, left home with the ambition of becoming someone and traveled to Mumbai. After five days, we received information that they were at Mumbai CST, and we immediately contacted Mumbai Police,” SP Kumar stated.

“Mumbai Police promptly took action and located both children. Today (Thursday), a team of Tripura Police, along with their parents, brought them back to Agartala,” he added.

“I would like to express my gratitude to our Chief Minister Manik Shah for taking this matter seriously and keeping track of the updates daily,” SP Kumar said.

He mentioned that the 8th-grade students had gone to tuition but never returned.

“We registered a specific case at East Agartala police station based on the parents’ complaints. We formed a special team and launched an investigation. They were found at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on Tuesday,” SP Kumar stated.

Blood donation camp held in Agartala

On Tuesday, a blood donation drive was held at the Agartala Government Medical College in response to a call from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. People from political, social, and religious organizations lined up to give blood.

The state’s renowned hospital, where a sizable quantity of blood units are anticipated to be received, hosted the blood donation camp. “In the state, blood donation camps have become a kind of festival as everyone is responding to this appeal to maintain the balance of blood units in the 14 blood banks available in the state,” said Chief Minister Manik Saha. VP Dhankhar inaugurates exhibition on “Historical and Cultural Heritage of Tripura” in Agartala

Lauding the rich culture of Tripura Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar complimented the state on its numerous achievements in the field of education.

Earlier, Vice President Dhankhar inaugurated an exhibition on “Historical and Cultural Heritage of Tripura” and presided over a seminar on “New Horizon of Educational Development in Tripura. The exhibition was inaugurated at Maharaja Bir Bikram College in Agartala.

Addressing the occasion Dhankar praised the implementation of the New Education Policy -2020 and said, “It is a well thought out policy aimed at the transformation of our education sector and to make India a Vishwa Guru again.”

Earlier on Tuesday on his maiden tour Vice President, visited Tripura and West Bengal and said, “I share your aspirations and dreams.”

The official statement by Vice President’s Secretariat said, “Praising the glorious history and rich cultural heritage of the state, the Vice President said that Tripura and other North Eastern states are the pillars of India’s Act East Policy. VP Dhankhar also appealed to the students to follow Fundamental Duties as these would help them become better citizens of the country.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Dhankhar also visited and performed puja at Mata Tripureswari Temple at Udaipur, Tripura along with his spouse, Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar.

Talking about work done at the renowned Shaktipeeth, Dhankhar said, “The holy Shaktipeeth emanates sublimity and welfare for humanity. Gratifying to note that a well thought out, massive development is taking shape at this revered ancient Temple.”

The statement further read, “Vice President Dhankhar also held an interaction with the Governor, Satyadeo Narain Arya, and other dignitaries at Raj Bhawan, Agartala. The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha accompanied the Vice President during these programs.”

4 Rohingyas, 2 infants arrested in Agartala; complaint filed

Four Rohingyas and two infants who had illegally entered India were arrested in Agartala on Friday, according to the police

The incident happened a week after 15 Rohingya refugees was arrested in separate instances in various districts of Tripura.

Issuing a statement, assistant inspector general (law and order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury said, “A specific case was registered against them for further legal action at Agartala GRP police station.”

Detainees were apprehended by Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) from Badharghat railway station after they crossed the India-Bangladesh border fence and entered the Dhanpur region within the jurisdiction of Jatrapur police station in the Sepahijala district.

Mohammad Safikul Islam (55), Mohammad Abdul Kayer (23), Senwara Begam (19) and her one-year-old child, and Nur Kayeda (19) and her 16-month-old child have been named as the arrested individuals.

When questioned, it emerged that the majority of them were from the Kutupalong Rohingya Refugee Camp in Cox Bazaar on Bangladesh’s southeast coast, while Nur Kayeda was from Chittagong.

Bangladesh and Tripura are connected by an 856-kilometer international border. A significant portion of the Indo-Bangla border runs through the Sepahijala neighborhood.
