She warned that AAP must account for every penny spent. The BJP formed its first government in Delhi since 1998, with Gupta leading a team of 47 BJP MLAs. Meanwhile, 22 AAP members, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, took their oaths in the 70-seat assembly.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) seeking immediate intervention regarding rising ammonia levels in the Yamuna River, which are reportedly impacting Delhi’s water supply.

Accusations Against Haryana

In her letter, CM Atishi highlighted the role of Haryana in the crisis. She referred to a note from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO, which clarified that the DJB’s water treatment plants are only designed to treat ammonia levels up to 1 ppm. She pointed out that ammonia levels have spiked to over 7 ppm in the past two days—700% above the treatable limit—due to the mixing of untreated sewage and industrial waste from Haryana.

Impact on Water Supply and Public Health

Atishi stressed that these toxic ammonia levels have compromised Delhi’s water treatment plants, causing a 15 to 20% reduction in the water supply, affecting around 34 lakh people. She warned that the high ammonia levels in drinking water could lead to serious public health issues, such as kidney damage, respiratory distress, and long-term organ damage.

“Water Terrorism” Allegations

The Delhi CM condemned the situation as an act of “water terrorism,” accusing the Haryana Government of deliberately disrupting Delhi’s water supply to influence the upcoming elections. Atishi emphasized that this was not a case of negligence but a deliberate attempt to undermine free and fair elections by compromising public health.

Social Media Appeal for Action

In a social media post, Atishi expressed concern over ammonia levels remaining six times higher than normal in the Yamuna water entering Delhi from Haryana. She cautioned that such toxic levels would make the water undrinkable and unsafe for Delhi’s residents.

Request for Urgent Meeting with CEC

Atishi requested an urgent meeting with the CEC to address the issue and ensure that the elections are not affected by external forces. She urged the CEC to meet with her as soon as possible to discuss the matter.

Haryana CM’s Criticism of AAP

Haryana CM Nayab Saini responded by criticizing AAP’s allegations, accusing them of mismanaging water distribution and blaming others for the issue. He suggested a meeting between the chief secretaries of Delhi and Haryana to check the water quality at Sonipat, the point where the Yamuna enters Delhi.

</excerpt>

The first major flashpoint came with the demand that Chief Minister Atishi vacate the bungalow in Civil Lines that had been occupied by her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, two days after she had moved in. PWD officials, who report directly to Atishi herself, said no formal handover of the property from Kejriwal to the department had taken place, ratcheting up tensions between the Delhi government and its bureaucracy.

The all formalities complied after which she shifted,” said AAP. However PWD claims no official handover by Kejriwal from his department to residence has been done and hence the property has been sealed. On Wednesday morning, PWD officials visited the house and could retrieve the keys from Atishi later in the day. Though Atishi has the keys yet an official allotment letter from Chief Minister for the residence hasn’t arrived yet.

Escalating Protests and Political Responses

The AAP called it unprecedented, with the CMO issuing a statement accusing the L-G of working under the dispensation of the BJP. “For the first time in the history of the country, the Chief Minister has been asked to vacate her house.”. The statement continued to claim that it is at the request of the BJP that the L-G has violently snatched away CM Atishi’s belongings. The CMO further stated that L-G had planned to hand over the house to some prominent leader of the BJP since the party had not been in the city’s government for a long time.

There’s nothing new to this controversy surrounding this residence. Arvind Kejriwal, who had occupied the bungalow since 2015, resigned as Chief Minister on September 17, leaving it shortly afterwards. Prior to that, Kejriwal and AAP had taken flak over alleged irregularities and cost escalations for renovating the bungalow for Rs 4.97 crore in 2020-21. The CBI is currently probing the matter and disciplinary actions initiated against 10 PWD officials involved in the project.

Show-Cause notices and Continuing Investigations

The Directorate of Vigilance issued showcause notices to three officers, special secretary to the CM included, for failing to hand over keys to the property in question. The notice refers to an investigation that is currently underway into alleged irregularities in the construction and renovation work at the bungalow. Not only was the building not approved by the PWD or any other authority, it did not possess a completion certificate from anywhere, the notice stated.

Public Hike and BJP’s Strong Protest

Delhi BJP Chief, Virendra Sachdeva questioned the urgent possession. On the contrary, he dubbed it a “Sheesh Mahal” built with public money. Speaking at a press conference, he said, “Kejriwal constructed the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ constructed with public money. Now, after resignation from the post, what is the hurry to get possession without following rules?” Sachdeva demanded proper inventory and transparency.

AAP was quick to response, dismissed this issue as being a non-issue and claimed that all formalities had been completed. In any event, sealing of the residence marks a dramatic escalation in an already power-struggling game between the elected government and the administrative machinery at Delhi.

Why the Action Was Taken

The sealing of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s residence stems from a dispute over the official handover of the property. While Atishi moved into the Civil Lines bungalow, which was earlier occupied by Arvind Kejriwal, the Public Works Department (PWD) claims that the formal transfer of the residence had not yet occurred. The department stated that an official allotment letter was not provided to Atishi, and the building’s legal status remains under scrutiny due to ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in its construction and renovation.

The PWD, alongside the Directorate of Vigilance and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is probing claims that the bungalow was constructed without approved plans and lacked a completion certificate. These concerns prompted the PWD to take action by sealing the residence, despite Aam Aadmi Party’s insistence that all necessary formalities had been completed.

Furthermore, show-cause notices were issued to officials who failed to properly hand over the keys, adding another layer to the bureaucratic tensions behind the sealing.

</excerpt>

The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday directed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor to file a reply to a revision petition moved by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in an ongoing defamation case. The case stems from a defamation complaint filed by Kapoor against the Delhi CM.

The defamation case was initiated after Kapoor accused Atishi of making false claims during a press conference, where she alleged that the BJP had approached her to join the party. Atishi has already challenged the summoning order issued by the court in May, and Special Judge Vishal Gogne has now directed Kapoor to respond. The court scheduled the matter for further arguments on October 23 and 24.

Legal Proceedings So Far

Kapoor’s defamation complaint followed Atishi’s statements during an April 2 press conference, where she claimed that a “close person” had approached her on behalf of the BJP, asking her to join the party or face arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kapoor, through his legal team, sent a notice to Atishi demanding an apology and withdrawal of her claims, arguing that the statements were defamatory, false, and aimed at harming the BJP’s reputation.

In response to the complaint, the Rouse Avenue Court had issued summons to Atishi in May. She was granted bail on July 23 after appearing in court and furnishing a bail bond.

Court Adjournments and Arguments

While the case progresses in the appellate court, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has adjourned the matter until November 5, awaiting the case records. The court’s decision to issue a notice to Kapoor for filing a reply marks the latest development in the ongoing legal battle.

Atishi is represented by senior advocate Ramesh Gupta, alongside advocates Shailendra Singh and Mudit Jain, while senior advocate Ajay Burman, accompanied by Shoumendu Mukherjee, represents Kapoor.

During her press conference, Atishi claimed that the BJP had used threats of arrest through central probe agencies to pressure her into joining the party. She accused the BJP-led central government of using agencies like the ED to intimidate opposition leaders, asserting that similar actions would be taken against other AAP leaders in the run-up to the general elections.

Despite the legal challenges, Atishi remains defiant, asserting, “We are soldiers of Arvind Kejriwal… We will continue to save the Constitution and work for the people under his leadership.”

</excerpt>

In a heated exchange within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party leader Dilip Pandey on Tuesday called for the resignation of Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal after she made controversial remarks about AAP leader Atishi, who is set to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Pandey accused Maliwal of following a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) agenda and suggested that she seek a Rajya Sabha ticket from the BJP instead.

Pandey’s attack came after Maliwal referred to Atishi as a “dummy CM” and shared allegations that Atishi’s parents had written mercy petitions to spare 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru from execution. In response, Pandey stated, “Swati Maliwal takes a Rajya Sabha ticket from AAP but follows BJP’s script. If she has any shame, she should resign from the Rajya Sabha and seek a ticket from the BJP.”

Maliwal had earlier posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Today is a very sad day for Delhi. A woman is being made Chief Minister whose family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru from hanging. Her parents wrote mercy petitions to save him. May God protect Delhi.”

The controversy arose on the same day that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed Atishi’s name as his successor during a meeting with party MLAs. Following the meeting, Atishi was unanimously elected as the leader of the Delhi AAP Legislative Party.

Expressing her gratitude after being elected, Atishi said, “I would like to thank Arvind Kejriwal, the popular CM of Delhi and my mentor, for trusting me with such a huge responsibility. Only in AAP can a first-time politician become the Chief Minister of a state.” She added, “On behalf of all AAP MLAs and the people of Delhi, I want to say that there is only one Chief Minister of Delhi, and that is Arvind Kejriwal.”

Kejriwal, who is stepping down as Chief Minister, submitted his resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday. His resignation follows his release on bail from Tihar jail on September 13 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy scam case.

The clash between Maliwal and AAP has been ongoing, with Maliwal accusing Kejriwal’s former aide Bibhav Kumar of assault, leading to a rift between her and the party. Despite these tensions, Maliwal remains a member of AAP, and the party has not taken action against her.

Kejriwal proposed her name, and she is expected to lead the National Capital Territory of Delhi, with reports indicating there will be no Deputy Chief Minister this time.

Currently serving as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of NCT of Delhi, Atishi oversees several crucial portfolios, including Finance, Planning, Education, Public Works Department (PWD), Power, and Water, among others. She also represents the Kalkaji constituency as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Atishi entered politics during the India Against Corruption movement in 2012 and has since been recognized for her contributions to education and social activism.

Educational Background

Atishi completed her schooling at Springdales School, Delhi, and later pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in History from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.
She furthered her studies at the University of Oxford, where she earned a Master of Arts in Ancient and Modern History (2001-2003). Atishi ranked third in her batch and was awarded the prestigious Radhakrishnan-Chevening Scholarship. She also received the Rhodes Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Educational Research at Oxford.

Political Journey

Just two days after his release from Delhi’s Tihar Jail, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced his resignation, surprising both his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) colleagues and political opponents from the BJP and Congress. Addressing AAP workers at the party office, Kejriwal declared that he does not seek power for its own sake and will not resume his position until he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the people.

Kejriwal was released on bail on Friday in connection with the excise policy corruption case. His unexpected resignation announcement has led to speculation about potential successors, including his wife Sunita and Delhi Ministers Atishi and Gopal Rai.

That's why two days time" pic.twitter.com/QjFopplRsY

— ANI (@ANI) September 15, 2024

Reason Behind the 48-Hour Delay

Kejriwal stated, “I am going to resign after two days and ask people whether I am honest. Till they respond, I won’t sit on CM’s chair… I will only sit on CM’s chair after people give me a certificate of honesty. I want to give ‘agnipariksha’ (trial by fire) after coming out of jail.”

The BJP has criticized Kejriwal’s decision to delay his resignation, questioning the need for 48 hours. Delhi Minister Atishi explained that the timing is due to the weekend and a holiday for Eid-e-Milad, making the next working day Tuesday.

BJP’s Criticism

The BJP has alleged that Kejriwal’s request for 48 hours may be to find a replacement or make adjustments. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi remarked, “Delhi’s voters rendered their verdict three months ago, resulting in the loss of all seven seats. The entire council of ministers should resign and let elections be held in November. The public is fed up with them.”

BJP leader Harish Khurana questioned the delay, asking why Kejriwal does not resign immediately. He suggested that Kejriwal’s actions are part of a theatrical performance and criticized the need for a delay in resignation.

Congress Responds

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit criticized Kejriwal’s move as a gimmick, saying, “There is no question of becoming the CM again. We have been saying for a long time that he should resign as Chief Minister. This is merely a gimmick.” Dikshit added that the Supreme Court’s conditions, which prevent Kejriwal from going to the Chief Minister’s office or signing papers, are unprecedented and imply a serious concern about potential tampering with evidence.

Kejriwal’s Call for Early Elections

In his address to AAP workers, Kejriwal called for Delhi to hold elections alongside Maharashtra’s upcoming assembly elections, expected in October. He suggested that until then, another AAP member should take over as Chief Minister. Reflecting on his past resignation in 2014 over the Jan Lokpal Bill, Kejriwal reiterated his lack of desire for power and emphasized that public opinion is more important to him than the BJP.

Kejriwal stated, “For me, the BJP is not important, people are important,” and expressed his desire to seek the people’s judgment on his honesty.

</excerpt>

After Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena sanctioned the prosecution of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an excise policy case, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister Atishi accused the BJP of orchestrating a political conspiracy. Speaking at a press conference, Atishi claimed that the BJP was using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as political tools.

Atishi highlighted that Kejriwal was arrested just before the Lok Sabha elections in a case she described as false. She pointed to a sequence of events in June 2024, alleging that the BJP interfered with judicial proceedings. On June 20, Kejriwal was granted bail by a trial court in the ED case. However, Atishi noted that before the court’s order was even uploaded, the ED approached the High Court on June 21 and secured a stay on the bail order. On June 22, Kejriwal moved to the Supreme Court against the stay. Atishi claimed that after the BJP learned Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court, the CBI arrested him on June 26.

Atishi also mentioned that the CBI, after being given two weeks to file a reply by the Supreme Court, requested additional time, furthering her claims of a political conspiracy. She asserted that despite the BJP’s efforts, the truth would prevail and their plans would ultimately fail.

The central probe agency recently filed a sanction for prosecution in the Rouse Avenue Court, and a supplementary charge sheet against Kejriwal has already been submitted by the CBI. Kejriwal, who was arrested on June 26, remains in judicial custody until August 27, 2024. The court is set to consider the supplementary charge sheet on that date.

Kejriwal’s legal troubles began when he was arrested by the ED on March 21, 2024, in connection with a money laundering investigation related to alleged irregularities in the now-canceled Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

During the interaction, the principals shared their insights from the training, which focused on leadership development, enhancing education quality, and promoting parental involvement.

Education Minister Atishi commended the principals for their renewed enthusiasm and energy after the training. “There’s a common perception that government school teachers and principals are indifferent, but our principals are breaking that stereotype. Their positivity and zeal will now resonate throughout their schools,” she said.

Atishi emphasized the Delhi government’s commitment to providing world-class exposure to educators, highlighting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s belief that only world-class training can lead to world-class education. “We want our teachers and principals to excel in delivering education. Every child should feel valued and eager to attend school,” she added.

Mayor Shelly Oberoi noted that, before 2022, there was little focus on the professional development of MCD teachers and principals. “Our government has ensured that teachers and principals receive the respect and resources they deserve. The principals will now be able to manage their schools more effectively, thanks to the top-tier management training at IIM,” she said.

Oberoi further expressed confidence that MCD schools would soon reach the same level of excellence as Delhi government schools, becoming models of quality education nationwide. She urged the principals to apply their new skills to provide the best education possible for every student.

The principals expressed their gratitude for the training, noting that they now feel fully supported by the government. Parul Jain, one of the principals, said, “Attending IIM Ahmedabad was a dream come true. The professors there treated us like VIPs and offered practical solutions to our challenges.”

Another principal, Sushila Kumari, shared that the training taught her strategies to reduce absenteeism by involving parents more actively. Principal Ratna Arora said, “The training has equipped us to address not just school-related issues but also broader challenges in life.”

The principals expressed their determination to transform their schools into world-class institutions, ensuring that every child receives quality education.

</excerpt>

Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Saturday instructed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to take immediate action to resolve the escalating issue of sewer overflows across the city. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Atishi highlighted the widespread complaints regarding sewer overflows and directed him to oversee the resolution of these issues while holding negligent officials accountable.

Atishi pointed out that several areas, including Patparganj Village, Shashi Garden, Kichripur, Subhash Park, Raj Nagar Part 2, Satya Niketan, RK Puram, Ranjeet Nagar, Faridpuri, Budh Nagar, Pandav Nagar, Karol Bagh, Garhi Village, Pillanji Village, Chandrawal Village, Kotla Village, Sarai Kale Khan Basti, Zamrudpur, and Chirag Dilli, are severely affected by overflowing sewers. She described the situation as worsening daily and causing significant inconvenience to residents.

The minister also warned of the potential health hazards posed by sewer water contaminating drinking water in several areas, which could lead to a serious public health crisis if left unaddressed.

Atishi criticized the lack of coordination between various departments, including the Urban Development Department, Delhi Jal Board, and Finance Department, which she said are engaged in a blame game instead of resolving the issue. She stressed that this dysfunction is directly impacting the people of Delhi.

“The Chief Secretary, as the head of the bureaucracy, must take responsibility for resolving these internal conflicts and ensuring that the public does not suffer due to the negligence of government officials,” Atishi wrote in her letter.

The directive aims to address both the immediate sewer overflow crisis and the underlying coordination issues among the concerned departments.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday allowed Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, to be released on bail. The court noted that Sisodia had been detained for 17 months without the start of a trial, which infringed upon his right to a speedy trial.

Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan of the bench remarked on the extended period of custody without trial. Atishi expressed her relief and pride, stating, “Today the truth has won, the students of Delhi have won…He was put in jail because he provided good education to poor children.” She also posted “Satyamev Jayate” on X (formerly Twitter) in celebration.

Background on Arrests: Manish Sisodia was initially arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, over alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. Subsequently, on March 9, 2023, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in connection with money laundering related to the same case. He resigned from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.

Statements from Party Members: Raghav Chadha, an AAP MP, took to X to express his gratitude for the Supreme Court’s decision, stating, “The whole country is happy today as Manish Sisodia, the hero of Delhi education revolution, got bail. I express my gratitude to the Honorable Supreme Court from the bottom of my heart.” He also highlighted the hardship Sisodia faced, noting, “Manish ji was kept behind bars for 530 days. His crime was that he gave a better future to the children of the poor. Dear children, your Manish uncle is coming back.”

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh hailed the bail as a “victory of truth,” criticizing the central government’s actions. He remarked, “This verdict is a slap on the Centre’s dictatorship. He was in jail for 17 months. His life was destroyed in those months. He could have worked for the education of children during that time.” Singh expressed hope for bail and justice for other party leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Satyendar Jain, and praised the Supreme Court for its decision, calling it a significant boost for the AAP.

She added that if the amount of water does not increase today, the water crisis in the city will worsen in two days.
“Have sought time from the Hon’ble @LtGovDelhi for an emergency meeting, to apprise him of the inadequate water being released by Haryana from the Munak Canal,” Atishi posted on X.

“Delhi is supposed to receive 1050 cusecs of water from the Munak Canal via the CLC and DSB sub-canals. However, this has reduced to 840 cases. 7 Water Treatment Plants are dependent on this water. If the amount of water does not increase today, then the water situation across Delhi will worsen in 1-2 days. Hon’ble @LtGovDelhi is the representative of the Central Govt. Will be requesting him to intervene and resolve the situation,” she added.

Meanwhile, residents of Delhi continue to face severe water crises as long lines of people around water tankers are seen in many areas of the national capital.
With piped water being disrupted, in several areas of the city water is being supplied to the people through tankers. Visuals from Mayur Vihar and Okhla Phase 2 show residents huddling around water tankers with buckets and cans in their hands to carry water.
Delhi government blamed the water crisis on the Haryana government “blocking” Delhi’s share of water.

“On one hand, the Supreme Court is trying to solve the water crisis in Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh is ready to give more water to Delhi. On the other hand, Haryana is blocking Delhi’s share of water,” Atishi, Delhi Minister, said while speaking to reporters in Delhi on Saturday.

“Under the agreement between Haryana, Delhi, and the entire Upper Yamuna region regarding water, 1050 cusecs of water come to Delhi through the Munak Canal. Two sub-canals of the Munak Canal supply water here. It is measured by the flow meter installed here. If we look at the data from the last five years, out of the 1,050 cusecs of water released by Haryana, 1000 to 980 cusecs of water reach Delhi. But for the last five days, this amount of water has been continuously decreasing.

At least 1,000 cusecs of water should reach Delhi, but since June 1, it has decreased a lot. On June 7, only 840 cusecs of water reached Delhi,” she added.

For many residents in the city, their daily lives are being disrupted because of the water crisis.

Ambati, a resident of Delhi’s Geeta Colony, told ANI that she has to face a lot of trouble fetching water from the tankers.

“We have to face a lot of trouble. We get only one tanker, from which we have to fetch water. We have no other option, though,” she said.

Another resident of Geeta Colony, Ghanshyam Jha, said, “We have to face the water crisis daily. We have to bear a lot of trouble while getting water from tankers. Sometimes, we skip work due to this. One tanker doesn’t seem to be enough for the entire population of this colony, but anyway, we only get one.”

The record-high temperatures and heatwave in Delhi, which has resulted in maximum temperatures rising to around 50 degrees Celsius in some places, have caused an extraordinary and excessive surge in water demand in the city.

Atishi noted that while the Supreme Court is actively working to address Delhi’s water crisis, Haryana’s actions are exacerbating the problem.

“On one hand, the Supreme Court is trying to solve the water crisis in Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh is ready to give more water to Delhi. On the other hand, Haryana is blocking Delhi’s share of water,” Atishi told reporters.

Atishi clarified that according to an agreement involving Haryana, Delhi, and the Upper Yamuna region, Delhi is entitled to receive a daily allocation of 1,050 cusecs of water through the Munak Canal.

“Two sub-canals of the Munak Canal supply this water, and it’s measured by a flow meter. Historically, about 980 to 1,000 cusecs reach Delhi. However, since June 1, this flow has significantly decreased. On June 7, only 840 cusecs were delivered,” she said.

The minister said this reduction is already affecting Delhi’s water treatment plants, including those at Bawana, Nangloi, Haiderpur, Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla. “Water goes to 7 plants of Delhi through this canal. If water does not reach here, then there will be chaos in the entire Delhi,” Atishi warned.

The Haryana government must explain where the water is going if they are releasing the full amount. It is impossible for 100-150 cusecs to simply disappear. This indicates that Haryana is intentionally releasing less water, causing distress to Delhi’s residents and defying the Supreme Court’s directive,” she added.

</excerpt>

Delhi Minister Atishi accused the BJP of harassing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who returned to Tihar jail after his interim bail ended. She stated that Kejriwal was arrested in a fabricated case by the BJP, and despite surrendering, he continues to face harassment. Kejriwal has allegedly been denied basic amenities like a cooler, even as temperatures soar to extreme levels in Delhi.

During a briefing, Atishi highlighted the absence of a cooler for Kejriwal amidst the scorching heat, questioning the BJP and the LG sahab’s actions. She emphasized that even notorious criminals in Tihar Jail are provided with coolers, while the popular CM of Delhi is deprived of one.

Responding to Atishi’s allegations, a senior Tihar jail official clarified that coolers are provided based on medical requirements and court orders. Atishi further alleged discrepancies in Kejriwal’s weight measurements during his medical examination, suggesting manipulation by Tihar officials.

She claimed that Kejriwal’s weight significantly dropped since his arrest, yet the ED opposed his bail for medical tests. Additionally, Atishi cited different weight readings obtained from various machines during Kejriwal’s examination on Sunday.

The Tihar jail administration responded, stating that Kejriwal’s weight upon release was 64 kg, measured using the same machine as on Sunday. They affirmed that Kejriwal’s health is being monitored closely, with regular medical checks and insulin administration.

Despite the situation, Kejriwal managed to speak to his wife over the phone on Monday evening, according to the Tihar jail officer.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi voiced concerns during her participation in the sixth phase of general elections, alleging efforts to tamper with the voting process. Atishi accused Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena of orchestrating a meeting with Delhi Police officials to intentionally slow down voting in areas identified as strongholds of the INDIA bloc.

Stating that they had received official information about the meeting, AAP leader Atishi emphasized the gravity of such actions, highlighting the threat they pose to the principles of free and fair elections. She called upon the Election Commission to intervene and address the matter promptly.

Atishi cast her vote in New Delhi’s Kalkaji area, where AAP’s Somnath Bharti competes against BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj. Encouraging voter turnout, she emphasized the significance of every citizen’s participation in the democratic process.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal echoed Atishi’s concerns, urging the Election Commission to ensure the smooth conduct of voting in Delhi.

Responding to the allegations, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them as “unwarranted & false.” He asserted that such claims were intended to mislead voters and undermine the democratic process, vowing to take stringent action against any impropriety.

The sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls includes pivotal constituencies, notably all seven seats in Delhi, where AAP, Congress, and BJP engage in a fierce battle for electoral supremacy. With AAP and Congress jointly contesting against BJP, which has previously dominated the capital’s Lok Sabha seats, the electoral landscape is fraught with anticipation. The contest underscores the broader dynamics of the INDIA bloc, with both opposition parties striving to challenge BJP’s hegemony.
