CM Saini launches ‘Tiranga Yatra’ from Kalka

Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini said on Monday that the Tricolor is our pride and identity, it is our collective duty to uphold its respect. He urged people to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi by hoisting the Tricolor at their homes and establishments, contributing to realizing the dream of a new India envisioned by the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Saini was addressing the gathering at a programme organised in Kalka, district Panchkula. On this occasion, he flagged off the Tiranga Yatra with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ from Kalka Mandi and concluded at the Shri Kali Mata Temple in Kalka. Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the historic Shri Kali Mata Temple in Kalka and the Gurudwara Sahib to seek blessings.

The Chief Minister said that Independence Day is dedicated to remembering those brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect our Bharat Mata. He further said that Prime Minister has called upon the citizens to hoist the National Flag at every home so that we can honour the sacrifice of the countless heroes who fought for our freedom.

Saini said that Prime Minister, Modi has been committed to transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, and about 140 crore citizens are playing their part in this mission. He said that Haryana is also fully committed to achieve this goal, with every citizen actively contributing to the effort.

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister has implemented numerous schemes for the welfare of all sections of the society. In a significant move towards environmental conservation, he has launched a ‘Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. Under this campaign, he has urged people to plant at least one sapling on birthdays, anniversaries, or other joyful occasions and to ensure their protection. He also highlighted that the Prime Minister has given international recognition to the country’s ancient yoga practices.

As India celebrates its 77th Independence Day, the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is back as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, this campaign encourages citizens to display the Tricolour at their homes.

This year, the campaign includes a special ‘Tiranga Bike Rally’ on August 13, featuring Members of Parliament. The rally will start at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, and end at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, passing through India Gate.

About the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Certificate

A key feature of the campaign is the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ certificate. Citizens are encouraged to hoist the Tiranga at home, take a selfie with it, and upload it to [harghartiranga.com] to secure their certificate.

Since its launch, the campaign has seen tremendous participation. In 2022, the Tricolour was displayed at over 23 crore homes, with six crore selfies uploaded to the portal. The initiative continued to grow in 2023, with over 10 crore selfies uploaded. This year, the campaign continues to promote national pride and emphasize the significance of the Tricolour.

Chhattisgarh: Naxal-affected Sukma gets electricity for first time

The households in Elmagunda village in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh have got electricity, a fundamental achievement for the local administration in its efforts to take development to the regions severely affected by Naxalite violence.

The success of electrifying households in this remote Naxal violence-affected village was attained on the eve of India’s 77th Independence Day. The task was executed on 14 August through the determined efforts of district police who worked together with Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited.

Elmagunda did not receive electricity till August 14 and people faced many difficulties in their lives.

According to the police official, meetings were conducted with the villagers to make them aware of the activities of Naxals and encourage them to give movement to the progress and growth of their village. The villagers were also advised to keep their distance from Naxalites.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also contributed to the completion of the task. The collective efforts of district administration, police and other agencies have brought happiness to the villagers who now see a revolution coming about in their lives.

The officials said that electricity in Elamgudna households will give a tremendous boost to development, help connect the local population with other parts of the state and the country and enable better education of children.

Tiger 3’, the third part of the Tiger franchise, is being directed by Maneesh Sharma. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu this Diwali. The upcoming actioner stars Emraan Hashmi as the antagonist. Katrina is also a part of the film.

Reportedly, Shah Rukh Khan has a cameo in the film. The official announcement is awaited.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says Assam will ‘withdraw’ AFSPA by 2023

Assam government has set up a goal to entirely “withdraw” the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on 15 August, Tuesday.

While giving a speech during the Independence Day celebrations that were held at the Khanapara Playground, the Chief Minister said that the AFSPA holds power in eight districts of the state now after his government came to power.

Sarma said, “Our government’s aim is to completely withdraw the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the state by the end of this year. Before our government came to power, previous governments had requested the Centre to extend AFSPA 62 times. Now the situation has been improving.”

He said that during his tenure as a Chief Minister, four peace grants were signed with the rebellious groups and nearly 8000 militants have been affiliated with the mainstream politics.

The Chief Minister also stated that his government is determined to make Assam a ‘Drugs Free’, ‘Corruption Free’ state.

While declaring “zero tolerance” against corruption, CM Biswa said, “127 government employees have been arrested on corruption charges. Our government has taken the initiative to dismiss the arrested government employees from service.”

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that his administration will bring a strong law to end polygamy in the state.

Indian embassy celebrates Independence day in Kuwait

On the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, the Indian embassy in Kuwait raised the tricolor.

On the eve of Independence Day, India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, hoisted the flag and read President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation.

“Glimpses of the 77th Independence Day celebrations at the Embassy of India in Kuwait. Ambassador hoisted the tricolour and read out Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji’s address to the nation. The vibrant Indian community participated in large numbers despite being a hot and humid morning,” Swaika said in a tweet.

Earlier, the Indian embassy in Medan, Indonesia, observed the 77th anniversary of the country’s independence.

PM Narendra Modi interacts with special guests after I-Day speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, interacted with the special guests at the main celebratory event held at the Red Fort, after addressing the nation for the 10th time since assuming the country’s highest office, on the 77th Independence Day.

As the Prime Minister concluded his speech, tricolour balloons were released into the air even as the national flag flew proudly from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

During his interactions with the special guests, PM Modi shook hands with them and many were seen mobbing him for selfies.

A member of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, said PM Modi asked her where she came from. She said, “The PM asked me about my place of residence. He motivated and encouraged us. I could not say anything to him for want of time. But it was a memorable experience seeing him from up close and meeting him.”

Another special guest from the NCC, said, “He (PM) shook hands with everyone. He asked us about our battalion and enquired about us. It felt good meeting him in person. However, I couldn’t speak with him as there wasn’t enough time.”

The Prime Minister also talked with 50 Shram Yogis, the labourers who were associated with the Central Vista Project, which also included the construction of the new Parliament building.

While PM Modi made his way through the lawns of the Red Fort, the guests chanted ‘Vande Bharat’ and ‘Bharat Mati ki Jai Slogans’. Around 1,800 people from various lines of work, along with their spouses, were invited from across the country to take part in the Independence Day celebrations.

India to be in World’s top three economies: PM Modi

On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said there has been outstanding growth in India’s exports and noted that India has now become the world’s fifth-largest economy due to the efforts of 140 crore citizens.

While addressing the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on Independence Day, the Prime Minister stated India will become the third-largest economy in the next few years. He said, “In coming years, India will be in the top three economies. This is Modi’s guarantee.”

PM Modi : Geopolitics is changing, India becoming voice of global south

On the 77th anniversary of India’s independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his fellow citizens from the Red Fort’s ramparts, claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic had altered the geopolitical landscape and made India the voice of the developing world.

“After the second world war, a new world order took shape but I can see now clearly that a new global order and a new geopolitical equation is moving ahead after the Covid; the definition of the geopolitical equation has changed. And my dear family members, your capability is visible in giving the world a new shape…,” PM Modi said.

According to PM Modi, India’s contribution to global development during the COVID crisis demonstrated the nation’s potential. He continued by saying that although the supply chain was destroyed during the COVID and the developed countries were under pressure at the time, India adopted a human-centric strategy. India is currently taking on the role of the global south’s voice. The world now has the chance to benefit from India’s prosperity and history, he claimed.

He also lauded the contribution of youth and says those from tier 2, and tier 3 cities are also making a lot of impact in various fields, including start-ups.

Journey of Indian Rupee since Independence

Today India is celebrating its 77th Independence Day and is at the intersection of acquiring strong economic growth for its people during the next 25 years, what the government has described as India’s “Amrit Kaal”.

The value of India’s currency and its usage for global trade are among the key factors for measuring its economic stride.

During the just concluded monsoon session of Parliament, it was informed that now, banks from 22 countries have active special Rupee vostro accounts in Indian banks to trade in local currency as part of the gradual de-dollarisation plans.

The Vostro accounts allow domestic banks to present international banking services to clients who have global banking needs.

Last year, the Reserve Bank of India set up an arrangement, allowing transactions in domestic currencies to enhance the growth of global trade with the main focus being exports from India and to bring increasing attention towards the rupee.

A currency can be termed “international” if it is widely accepted worldwide as a medium of exchange. The internationalisation of the rupee gathered speed after the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) announcement to allow payments for international trade in rupees, especially for India’s exports. On 11 July 2022, the RBI enabled invoicing and payments for international trade in Indian Rupee.

The Indian rupee is currently trading at over 83 per US dollar, however, during the Independence, the value of the rupee was around 4.

During the economic crisis of 1991, the country was unable to pay for its imports and service its external debt obligations. India was on the brink of default, which demanded the much-needed reforms which opened the country’s economy.

In order to nullify the crisis, the Reserve Bank of India reportedly devalued the rupee in two sharp chunks – 9 per cent and 11 per cent, respectively. After the devaluation, the value of the rupee against the US dollar was around 26.

From Rs 4 during Independence against the then benchmark Pound sterling to around Rs 83 against the US dollar now, the rupee has depreciated by Rs 79 in the past 76 years.

PM Modi will be greeted at the Red Fort by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Raksha Rajya Mantri Ajay Bhatt, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding (GoC), Delhi Area, will be introduced to the Prime Minister by the Defence Secretary.

The GoC Delhi Area will then lead Narendra Modi to the Saluting Base, where a joint Inter-Services and Delhi Police Guard will present the Prime Minister with a general salute. The Prime Minister will then inspect the Guard of Honour, according to the announcement.

According to the statement, the Guard of Honour contingent for the PM would include one officer and 25 personnel from the Army, Air Force, and Delhi Police, as well as one officer and 24 personnel from the Navy. This year’s coordinating service is the Indian Army.

“The Guard of Honour will be commanded by Major Vikas Sangwan. The Army Contingent in the Prime Minister’s Guard will be commanded by Major Indrajeet Sachin, the Naval contingent by Lieutenant Commander MV Rahul Raman and the Air Force contingent by Squadron Leader Akash Ganghas. The Delhi Police contingent will be commanded by Additional DCP Sandhya Swami,” it added.
